John 11:41-53 in American Standard Version (1901)

41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus lifted up his eyes, and said, Father, I thank thee that thou heardest me.
42 And I knew that thou hearest me always: but because of the multitude that standeth around I said it, that they may believe that thou didst send me.
43 And when he had thus spoken, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
44 He that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with grave-clothes; and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith unto them, Loose him, and let him go.
45 Many therefore of the Jews, who came to Mary and beheld that which he did, believed on him.
46 But some of them went away to the Pharisees, and told them the things which Jesus had done.
47 The chief priests therefore and the Pharisees gathered a council, and said, What do we? for this man doeth many signs.
48 If we let him thus alone, all men will believe on him: and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.
49 But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said unto them, Ye know nothing at all,
50 nor do ye take account that it is expedient for you that one man should die for the people, and that the whole nation perish not.
51 Now this he said not of himself: but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus should die for the nation;
52 and not for the nation only, but that he might also gather together into one the children of God that are scattered abroad.
53 So from that day forth they took counsel that they might put him to death.

John 11:41-53 in God's Living Word

41 Then they took the boulder away from the place where the dead man was lying. Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, “Father, I thank You that You have heard me.
42 I know that You always hear me, but because of the people who are standing here I said this, that they may believe that You sent me.”
43 Now when He had said these things, He called loudly, “Lazarus, come out!”
44 He who had died came out, bound hand and foot with wrappings, and his face was wrapped around with a cloth. Jesus told them, “Unbind him, and let him go.”
45 Then many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and had seen the things Jesus did, believed in Him.
46 But some of them went away to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus did.
47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered a council and said, “What are we doing? For this Man performs many signs.
48 If we let Him go on like this, everyone will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation.”
49 Then a certain one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, told them, “You don’t know anything,
50 nor do you take into account that it’s better for you that one man should die for the people, than for the whole nation to perish.”
51 He didn’t say this on his own initiative; but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation,
52 and not for the nation only, but that Jesus might also gather together into one God’s children who are scattered abroad.
53 So from that day on, they planned together to kill Jesus.

John 11:41-53 in Translation for Translators

41 So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up toward heaven and said, “My Father, I thank you that you heard me when I prayed about this earlier.
42 I know that you always hear me when I pray. But instead of just praying silently, I said that for the sake of the people who are standing here. I want them to believe that you sent me.”
43 After he said that, he shouted, “Lazarus, come out!”
44 The man who had been dead came out! The strips of cloth were still wrapped around his hands and feet, and a cloth was still around his face, but he came out! Jesus said to them, “Take off the cloths so that he can walk easily!” So they did that.
45 As a result, many of the Jews who had come to see Mary and who had seen what Jesus did, believed that he ◄ was the Messiah/had come from God►.
46 But some of the others went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.
47 So the chief priests and the Pharisees gathered all the members of the Jewish Council together. They started saying to each other, “What are we going to do about Jesus? He is performing many miracles!
48 If we allow him to keep doing this, everyone will believe ◄in him/that he is the Messiah►, and they will make him their king. Then the Roman army will come and destroy our Temple and our whole nation of Israel!”
49 One of the Jewish Council members was Caiaphas. He was the Jewish high priest that year. Hinting that they should get rid of Jesus, he said to them, “You talk as though you do not know anything HYP!
50 You do not realize that it would be much better for us if one man died for the sake of the people rather than that the Romans kill all the people of our Jewish nation.”
51 He said that, not because he thought of it himself. Instead, since he was the high priest that year, he was prophesying that Jesus would die for the whole Jewish nation.
52 But he was also prophesying that Jesus would die, not just for the Jews, but for all the people living in other lands who would belong to God, in order that he would unite all of them into one group.
53 So from that day the Jewish leaders started to make plans how they could kill Jesus.

41 So they took away the stone from the place where the dead man was lying. Jesus lifted up his eyes and said, “Father, I thank you that you listened to me.

John 11:41-53 in Bible in Basic English

41 So they took away the stone. And Jesus, looking up to heaven, said, Father, I give praise to you for hearing me.
42 I was certain that your ears are at all times open to me, but I said it because of these who are here, so that they may see that you sent me.
43 Then he said in a loud voice, Lazarus, come out!
44 And he who was dead came out, with linen bands folded tightly about his hands and feet, and a cloth about his face. Jesus said to them, Make him free and let him go.
45 Then a number of the Jews who had come to Mary and had seen the things which Jesus did had belief in him.
46 But some of them went to the Pharisees with the news of what Jesus had done.
47 Then the high priests and the Pharisees had a meeting and said, What are we doing? This man is doing a number of signs.
48 If we let him go on in this way, everybody will have belief in him and the Romans will come and take away our place and our nation.
49 But one of them, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them, You have no knowledge of anything;
50 You do not see that it is in your interest for one man to be put to death for the people, so that all the nation may not come to destruction.
51 He did not say this of himself, but being the high priest that year he said, as a prophet, that Jesus would be put to death for the nation;
52 And not for that nation only, but for the purpose of uniting in one body the children of God all over the world.
53 And from that day they took thought together how to put him to death.

41 They took therefore the stone away. And Jesus lifted up his eyes on high and said, Father, I thank thee that thou hast heard me;
42 but I knew that thou always hearest me; but on account of the crowd who stand around I have said it, that they may believe that thou hast sent me.
43 And having said this, he cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth.
44 And the dead came forth, bound feet and hands with graveclothes, and his face was bound round with a handkerchief. Jesus says to them, Loose him and let him go.

49 But a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them, Ye know nothing

43 When he had said these things, he cried with a loud voice: Lazarus, come forth.

45 Many therefore of the Jews, who were come to Mary and Martha, and had seen the things that Jesus did, believed in him.

41 Then they took away the stone from where the deceased was lying. Jesus raised His eyes and said: “Father, I thank You that You heard me.
42 I know that You always hear me, but I spoke for the sake of the crowd standing around, so that they may believe that You sent me.”
43 Upon saying these things He shouted with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”
44 And out the deceased came! Bound hand and foot with bandages, and his face wrapped in a cloth. Jesus says to them, “Loose him and let him go.”
45 So many of the Jews who had come to Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed into Him.
46 But some of them went off to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.
47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees convened a council and said: “What can we do? Because this man performs many miraculous signs;
48 if we let him go on like this everybody will believe into him; and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation!”
49 But one of them, Caiaphas, being high priest that year, said to them: “You know nothing at all!
50 Nor do you consider that it is advantageous for us that one man should die on behalf of the people, rather than the whole nation perish!”
51 (Now he did not say this on his own, but being high priest that year he prophesied that Jesus was about to die on behalf of the nation;
52 and not only on behalf of the nation, but also to gather into one all the scattered children of God.)
53 So from that day on they really plotted to kill Him.

45 Consequently many of the Jews who had come to comfort Mary and who saw what Jesus did put their trust in him.
46 But others went to the Pharisees and told them what Jesus had done.
47 Then the chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the ruling council. “What shall we do?” they asked. “This man is doing many miracles.
48 If we allow him to continue, everybody will believe in him, and then the Romans will destroy both the Temple and our status as a nation.”
49 “You don't understand anything!” said Caiaphas, who was high priest that year.
50 “Can't you see that it's better for you that one man die for the people so that the whole nation won't be destroyed?”
51 He didn't say this on his own behalf, but as chief priest that year he was prophesying that Jesus would die for the nation.
52 And this was not just for the Jewish nation, but for all the scattered children of God so that they might be gathered together and be made into one.
53 From that time on they plotted how they might kill Jesus.

43 Then, after saying this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus! Come out!”
44 The dead man came out, wrapped hand and foot in a winding-sheet; his face, too, had been wrapped in a cloth. “Set him free,” said Jesus, “and let him go.”
45 In consequence of this, many of the people, who had come to visit Mary and had seen what Jesus did, learnt to believe in him.

49 One of them, however, Caiaphas, who was high priest that year, said to them,
50 “You are utterly mistaken. You do not consider that it is better for you that one person should die for the people, rather than the whole nation should be destroyed.”
51 Now he did not say this of his own accord; but, as high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was to die for the nation —

42 I know that you always hear me; but I say this for the sake of the people standing near, so that they may believe that you has sent me as your messenger.”
43 Then, after saying this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus! Come out!”
44 The dead man came out, wrapped hand and foot in a winding-sheet; his face, too, had been wrapped in a cloth. “Set him free,” said Jesus, “and let him go.”
45 In consequence of this, many of the people, who had come to visit Mary and had seen what Jesus did, learned to believe in him.
46 Some of them, however, went to the Pharisees, and told them what he had done.
47 The chief priests and the Pharisees called a meeting of the High Council, and said, “What are we to do, now that this man is giving so many signs?
48 If we allow him to continue as we are doing, everyone will believe in him; and the Romans will come and will take from us both our city and our Nationality.”
52 And not for the nation only, but also that he might unite in one body the children of God now scattered far and wide.
53 So from that day they plotted to put Jesus to death.

48 if we may let him alone thus, all will believe in him; and the Romans will come, and will take away both our place and nation.'
49 and a certain one of them, Caiaphas, being chief priest of that year, said to them, 'Ye have not known anything,

51 And this he said not of himself, but being chief priest of that year, he did prophesy that Jesus was about to die for the nation,
52 and not for the nation only, but that also the children of God, who have been scattered abroad, he may gather together into one.
