Acts 13:47-51 in English

⁴⁷ For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee for a light of the Gentiles, That thou shouldest be for salvation unto the uttermost part of the earth.

⁴⁸ And as the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of God: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

⁴⁹ And the word of the Lord was spread abroad throughout all the region.

⁵⁰ But the Jews urged on the devout women of honorable estate, and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and cast them out of their borders.

⁵¹ But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.

⁴⁷ For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

⁴⁸ And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

⁴⁹ And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.

⁵⁰ But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coasts.

⁵¹ But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.

⁴⁷ For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee for a light of the Gentiles, That thou shouldest be for salvation unto the uttermost part of the earth.

⁴⁸ And as the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of God: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

⁴⁹ And the word of the Lord was spread abroad throughout all the region.

⁵⁰ But the Jews urged on the devout women of honourable estate, and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and cast them out of their borders.

⁵¹ But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came unto Iconium.

⁴⁷ We are doing that also because the Lord God has commanded us to do it. He said to us, ‘I have appointed you to reveal things about me to non-Jewish people MET that will be like a light to them. I have appointed you to tell people everywhere MTY in the world about the one who came to save them.’ ”

⁴⁸ While the non-Jewish people were listening to those words, they began to rejoice, and they repeatedly said that the message about the Lord Jesus was wonderful. And all of the non-Jewish people whom God had chosen ◄to have eternal life/to live eternally with God► believed the message about the Lord Jesus.

⁴⁹ At that time, many of the believers traveled around throughout that region. As they did that, they were proclaiming the message about the Lord Jesus MTY.

⁵⁰ However, some leaders of SYN the Jews incited the most important men in the city, and some important/influential women who had accepted what the Jews believe, to oppose Paul and Barnabas. So those non-Jewish people incited other people also to persecute Paul and Barnabas. As a result they expelled the two men from their region.

⁵¹ So, as the two apostles were leaving, they shook the dust from their feet to show those Jewish leaders that God had rejected them and would punish them. They left Antioch and went to Iconium city.

⁴⁷ For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, ‘I have set you as a light for the Gentiles, that you should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.’”

⁴⁸ As the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of God. As many as were appointed to eternal life believed.

⁴⁹ The Lord’s word was spread abroad throughout all the region.

⁵⁰ But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, and stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and threw them out of their borders.

⁵¹ But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium.

⁴⁷ For so the Lord has given us orders, saying, I have given you for a light to the Gentiles so that you may be for salvation to the ends of the earth.

⁴⁸ And the Gentiles, hearing this, were glad and gave glory to the word of God: and those marked out by God for eternal life had faith.

⁴⁹ And the word of the Lord went through all the country.

⁵⁰ But the Jews, working up the feelings of the God-fearing women of high position and of the chief men of the town, got an attack started against Paul and Barnabas, driving them out of those parts.

⁵¹ But they, shaking off the dust of that place from their feet, came to Iconium.

⁴⁷ for thus has the Lord enjoined us: I have set thee for a light of the nations, that thou shouldest be for salvation to the end of the earth.

⁴⁸ And those of the nations, hearing it, rejoiced, and glorified the word of the Lord, and believed, as many as were ordained to eternal life.

⁴⁹ And the word of the Lord was carried through the whole country.

⁵⁰ But the Jews excited the women of the upper classes who were worshippers, and the first people of the city, and raised a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and cast them out of their coasts.

⁵¹ But they, having shaken off the dust of their feet against them, came to Iconium.

⁴⁷ For so the Lord hath commanded us: I have set thee to be the light of the Gentiles; that thou mayest be for salvation unto the utmost part of the earth.

⁴⁸ And the Gentiles hearing it, were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to life everlasting, believed.

⁴⁹ And the word of the Lord was published throughout the whole country.

⁵⁰ But the Jews stirred up religious and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas: and cast them out of their coasts.

⁵¹ But they, shaking off the dust of their feet against them, came to Iconium.

⁴⁷ For so the Lord has commanded us: ‘I have set you to be a light of the nations, that you should be for salvation to the end of the earth.’ ”

⁴⁸ Now when the Gentiles heard this, they rejoiced and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.

⁴⁹ And the word of the Lord was being spread throughout all the region.

⁵⁰ But the Jews incited the devout and prominent women and the leading men of the city, and raised up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and cast them out from their borders.

⁵¹ But shaking off the dust from their feet against them, they went to Iconium.

⁴⁷ Because that is just how the Lord has commanded us: ‘I have set you to be a light for ethnic nations, that you should be for salvation up to the last place on earth.’ ”

⁴⁸ Now upon hearing this, the Gentiles rejoiced and glorified the Word of the Lord; and as many as had been appointed to eternal live believed.

⁴⁹ Well the Word of the Lord was being spread throughout all the region.

⁵⁰ But the Jews stirred up the devout and prominent women and the chief men of the city, and raised up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them from their borders.

⁵¹ So they shook off the dust from their feet against them, and went to Iconium.

⁴⁷ That's what the Lord has told us to do: ‘I've made you a light to the foreigners, and through you salvation will go to the ends of the earth.’”

⁴⁸ When the foreigners heard this they were overjoyed, praising the Lord's word, and all those chosen for eternal life trusted in God.

⁴⁹ So God's word was spread throughout the region.

⁵⁰ But the Jews incited the prominent religious women and leaders of the city to persecute Paul and Barnabas, and had them expelled from their territory.

⁵¹ So they shook the dust off their feet against them as a sign of protest, and went on to Iconium.

⁴⁷ For so hath the Lord commanded vs, saying, I haue made thee a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be the saluation vnto the end of the world.

⁴⁸ And when the Gentiles heard it, they were glad, and glorified the woorde of the Lord: and as many as were ordeined vnto eternall life, beleeued.

⁴⁹ Thus the worde of the Lord was published throughout the whole countrey.

⁵⁰ But the Iewes stirred certaine deuoute and honourable women, and the chiefe men of the citie, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them out of their coastes.

⁵¹ But they shooke off the dust of their feete against them, and came vnto Iconium.

⁴⁷ For so hath the Lord commanded us, saying, I have set thee to be a light of the Gentiles, that thou shouldest be for salvation unto the ends of the earth.

⁴⁸ And when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad, and glorified the word of the Lord: and as many as were ordained to eternal life believed.

⁴⁹ And the word of the Lord was published throughout all the region.

⁴⁸ And when the gentiles heard this, they rejoiced, and glorified the word of the Lord; and as many as were ordained to everlasting life, believed.

⁴⁹ And the word of the Lord was spread abroad throughout the whole country.

⁵⁰ But the Jews stirred up the women of rank who worshipped God, and the chief men of the city, and raised a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them from their borders.

⁵¹ But they shook off the dust of their feet against them, and came to Iconium.

⁴⁷ For this is the Lord's command to us — ‘I have destined you for a light to the Gentiles, a means of salvation to the ends of the earth’.”

⁴⁸ On hearing this, the Gentiles were glad and extolled God's message; and all those who had been enrolled for eternal life became believers in Christ;

⁴⁹ and the Lord's message was carried throughout that district.

⁵⁰ But the Jews incited the women of high social standing who worshipped with them, and the leading men of the town, and started a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their region.

⁵¹ They, however, shook the dust off their feet in protest,

⁴⁷ For this is the Lord's command to us — ‘I have destined you for a light to the Gentiles, a means of salvation to the ends of the earth’.”

⁴⁸ On hearing this, the Gentiles were glad and extolled God's message; and all those who had been enrolled for eternal life became believers in Christ;

⁴⁹ and the Lord's message was carried throughout that district.

⁵⁰ But the Jews incited the women of high social standing who worshiped with them, and the leading men of the town, and started a persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their region.

⁵¹ They, however, shook the dust off their feet in protest,

⁴⁷ You see, God told us to do this. It’s in God’s book. He said, ‘I gave you this job, to be like a light for the people that are not Jews. You will tell people everywhere in the world that I can save them.’”

⁴⁸ Those people that were not Jews heard these words and they were very happy. They said, “Thank you God for this message. It is really good.” And a lot of people there believed in Jesus. You see, a long time before this God picked those people to live with him for ever.

⁴⁹ And those people told God’s message about Jesus to other people, and a lot of people all over that country heard that word from God.

⁵⁰ But the Jewish leaders made trouble for Paul and Barnabas. There were some important women in that town that were not Jews but they respected God. And there were some important men there too. The Jewish leaders said bad things to them about Paul and Barnabas, so that they made big trouble for them. They made so much trouble that Paul and Barnabas had to leave that place.

⁵¹ As they left they shook the dust off their feet to show those Jews that they were wrong. Then Paul and Barnabas went to the town called Iconium.

⁴⁷ For so hath the Lorde commaunded vs: I have made the a light to the getyls that thou be salvacion vnto the ende of the worlde.

⁴⁸ The getyls hearde and were glad and glorified the worde of the Lorde and beleved: even as many as were ordeyned vnto eternall lyfe.

⁴⁹ And the worde of the Lorde was publisshed thorowe oute all the region.

⁵⁰ But the Iewes moved the worshypfull and honorable wemen and the chefe men of the cyte and reysed persecucion agaynst Paul and Barnabas and expelled them oute of their costes.

⁵¹ And they shouke of the duste of their fete agaynst them and came vnto Iconium.

⁴⁷ For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, 'I have placed you as a light for the Gentiles, that you should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.'”

⁴⁸ As the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and praised the word of the Lord. As many as were appointed to eternal life believed.

⁴⁹ The word of the Lord was spread out through the whole region.

⁵⁰ But the Jews urged on the devout and important women, as well as the leading men of the city. These stirred up a persecution against Paul and Barnabas and threw them out beyond the border of their city.

⁵¹ But Paul and Barnabas shook off the dust from their feet against them. Then they went to the city of Iconium.

⁴⁷ For so has the Lord commanded us, saying, ‘I have set you as a light for the Gentiles, that you should bring salvation to the uttermost parts of the earth.’”

⁴⁸ As the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of God. As many as were appointed to eternal life believed.

⁴⁹ And the word of the Lord was far sown in all that country.

⁵⁰ But the Jews stirred religious women, and honest, and the worthiest or the first men of the city, and stirred persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their countries.

⁵¹ And they shook away into them the dust of their feet, and came to Iconium.

⁴⁷ For so the Lord commanded us, I have set thee into (a) light of (the) heathen men, that thou be into health to the utmost or to the uttermost of the earth. (For so the Lord commanded us, I have ordained thee to be a light for the Gentiles, so that thou be a means of salvation unto the uttermost terms, or limits, of the earth.)

⁴⁸ And (the) heathen men heard, and joyed, and glorified the word of the Lord; and believed, as many as were before-ordained to everlasting life. (And the Gentiles heard, and rejoiced, and glorified the word of the Lord; and believed, as many as were foreordained, or predestined, for eternal life.)

⁴⁹ And the word of the Lord was far sown in all that country (or region).

⁵⁰ But the Jews stirred religious women, and honest, and the worthiest or the first men of the city, and stirred persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their countries. (But the Jews excited some honest and religious women, and the worthiest men of the city, and stirred up persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and drove them out of their region.)

⁵¹ And they shook away into them the dust of their feet or And they shook away the powder of (their) feet into them, and came to Iconium.

⁴⁷ for so hath the Lord commanded us: I have set thee for a light of nations — for thy being for salvation unto the end of the earth.'

⁴⁸ And the nations hearing were glad, and were glorifying the word of the Lord, and did believe — as many as were appointed to life age-during;

⁴⁹ and the word of the Lord was spread abroad through all the region.

⁵⁰ And the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the first men of the city, and did raise persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and did put them out from their borders;

⁵¹ and they having shaken off the dust of their feet against them, came to Iconium,
