Acts 13:40-42 in English

⁴⁰ Beware therefore, lest that come upon you which is spoken in the prophets:

⁴¹ Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish; For I work a work in your days, A work which ye shall in no wise believe, if one declare it unto you.

⁴² And as they went out, they besought that these words might be spoken to them the next sabbath.

⁴⁰ Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;

⁴¹ Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.

⁴² And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath.

⁴⁰ Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken in the prophets;

⁴¹ Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish; For I work a work in your days, A work which ye shall in no wise believe, if one declare it unto you.

⁴² And as they went out, they besought that these words might be spoken to them the next sabbath.

⁴⁰ Therefore be careful that God does not judge you MTY, as one of the prophets said MTY that God would do!

⁴¹ The prophet wrote that God said, You who ridicule me, you will certainly be astonished when you see what I am doing, and then you will be destroyed. You will be astonished because I will do something terrible to you while you are living. You would not believe that I would do that even though someone told you!”

⁴² After Paul finished speaking, while he and Barnabas were leaving the Jewish meeting place, many of the people there repeatedly requested that on the next ◄Sabbath/Jewish day of rest► the two of them should speak to them again about those things that Paul had just told them.

⁴⁰ Beware therefore, lest that come on you which is spoken in the prophets:

⁴¹ ‘Behold, you scoffers! Wonder and perish, for I work a work in your days, a work which you will in no way believe, if one declares it to you.’”

⁴² So when the Jews went out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be preached to them the next Sabbath.

⁴⁰ So take care that these words of the prophets do not come true for you;

⁴¹ See, you doubters, have wonder and come to your end; for I will do a thing in your days to which you will not give belief, even if it is made clear to you.

⁴² And when they went out, they made a request that these words might be said to them again on the Sabbath after.

⁴⁰ See therefore that that which is spoken in the prophets do not come upon you,

⁴¹ Behold, ye despisers, and wonder and perish; for I work a work in your days, a work which ye will in no wise believe if one declare it to you.

⁴² And as they went out they begged that these words might be spoken to them the ensuing sabbath.

⁴⁰ Beware, therefore, lest that come upon you which is spoken in the prophets:

⁴¹ Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which you will not believe, if any man shall tell it you.

⁴² And as they went out, they desired them, that on the next sabbath, they would speak unto them these words.

⁴⁰ Watch therefore, lest there come upon you that which was spoken of in the prophets:

⁴¹ ‘Behold, you despisers, and marvel and perish! For I will work a work in your days which you will by no means believe, though one were to declare it to you.’ ”

⁴² Now as the Jews were going out of the synagogue, the Gentiles begged that these words might be spoken to them the next Sabbath.

⁴⁰ So take care, lest there come upon you that which has been spoken in the prophets:

⁴¹ ‘Look you despisers, marvel and perish! For I am working a work in your days to which you will not give credence, even if someone were to explain it in detail to you.’ ”

⁴² Now as the Jews were going out of the synagogue, the Gentiles implored repeatedly that these words might be spoken to them the next Sabbath.

⁴⁰ Make sure that what the prophets said doesn't happen to you:

⁴¹ ‘You who are scornful, look in amazement, and die! For what I'm doing in your lifetime is something that you could never believe, even if someone told you!’”

⁴² As they were leaving, the people pleaded with them to tell them more the next Sabbath.

⁴⁰ Beware therefore lest that come vpon you, which is spoken of in the Prophets,

⁴¹ Behold, ye despisers, and wonder, and vanish away: for I woorke a woorke in your daies, a woorke which yee shall not beleeue, if a man would declare it you.

⁴² And when they were come out of the Synagogue of the Iewes, the Gentiles besought, that they woulde preach these woordes to them the next Sabbath day.

⁴⁰ Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;

⁴¹ Behold ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which you shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you.

⁴⁰ A long time ago God got some of his men to tell people this. They wrote in his book, ‘Listen. You people make fun of God, but I will do something that you will not believe, even if somebody tells you about it. You will be really shocked, and then you will die.’ So you people be careful. Don’t be like those people that God’s men wrote about.” That is the message that Paul told the people in that meeting in Antioch.

⁴² Then the meeting finished, and Paul and Barnabas started to go out of that meeting house. Some of the people asked them, “Can you come back the next Saturday and tell us more about those things?” And a lot of Jews and other people that respected God followed Paul and Barnabas. Paul and Barnabas talked with them and told them to keep on trusting God, and keep letting him help them.

⁴⁰ Beware therfore lest that fall on you which is spoken of in the Prophetes:

⁴¹ Beholde ye despisers and wonder and perishe ye: for I do aworke in youre dayes which ye shall not beleve yf a man wolde declare it you.

⁴² When they were come out of the Synagoge of the Iewes the getyls besought that they wolde preache the worde to them bitwene the Saboth dayes.

⁴⁰ So then be careful that the thing the prophets spoke about does not happen to you:

⁴¹ 'Look, you despisers, and be astonished and then perish; For I am doing a work in your days, A work that you shall never believe, even if someone announces it to you.'”

⁴² As Paul and Barnabas left, the people begged them that they might speak these same words again the next Sabbath.

⁴⁰ Beware therefore, lest that come on you which is spoken in the prophets:

⁴¹ ‘Behold, you scoffers! Wonder and perish, for I work a work in your days, a work which you will in no way believe, if one declares it to you.’”

⁴² And when they went out, they prayed, that in the sabbath pursuing, they should speak to them these words.

⁴⁰ Therefore see ye, that it come not to you, that is before-said in the prophets,

⁴¹ Ye despisers, see ye, and wonder ye, +or See ye, despisers, and wonder ye, and be ye scattered abroad; for I work a work in your days, a work that ye shall not believe, if any man shall tell it out to you.

⁴² And when they went out, they prayed, that in the sabbath (pur)suing (or that on the following Sabbath), they should speak to them these words.

⁴⁰ see, therefore, it may not come upon you that hath been spoken in the prophets:

⁴¹ See, ye despisers, and wonder, and perish, because a work I — I do work in your days, a work in which ye may not believe, though any one may declare it to you.'

⁴² And having gone forth out of the synagogue of the Jews, the nations were calling upon them that on the next sabbath these sayings may be spoken to them,
