² And as they ministered to the Lord, and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me Barnabas and Saul for the work whereunto I have called them.

³ Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

⁴ So they, being sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia; and from thence they sailed to Cyprus.

⁵ And when they were at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews: and they had also John as their attendant.

⁶ And when they had gone through the whole island unto Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name was Bar-Jesus;

⁷ who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. The same called unto him Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God.

⁸ But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn aside the proconsul from the faith.

⁹ But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him,

¹⁰ and said, O full of all guile and all villany, thou son of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

¹¹ And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

¹² Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

¹³ Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos, and came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.

¹⁴ But they, passing through from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia; and they went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.

¹⁵ And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

¹⁶ And Paul stood up, and beckoning with the hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, hearken:

¹⁷ The God of this people Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they sojourned in the land of Egypt, and with a high arm led he them forth out of it.

¹⁸ And for about the time of forty years as a nursing-father bare he them in the wilderness.

¹⁹ And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land for an inheritance, for about four hundred and fifty years:

²⁰ and after these things he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.

²¹ And afterward they asked for a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for the space of forty years.

²² And when he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king; to whom also he bare witness and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who shall do all my will.

²³ Of this man’s seed hath God according to promise brought unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus;

²⁴ when John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

²⁵ And as John was fulfilling his course, he said, What suppose ye that I am? I am not he. But behold, there cometh one after me the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to unloose.

²⁶ Brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you that fear God, to us is the word of this salvation sent forth.

²⁷ For they that dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.

²⁸ And though they found no cause of death in him, yet asked they of Pilate that he should be slain.

²⁹ And when they had fulfilled all things that were written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a tomb.

³⁰ But God raised him from the dead:

³¹ and he was seen for many days of them that came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses unto the people.

³² And we bring you good tidings of the promise made unto the fathers,

³³ that God hath fulfilled the same unto our children, in that he raised up Jesus; as also it is written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

³⁴ And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he hath spoken on this wise, I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.

³⁵ Because he saith also in another psalm, Thou wilt not give thy Holy One to see corruption.

³⁶ For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

³⁷ but he whom God raised up saw no corruption.

³⁸ Be it known unto you therefore, brethren, that through this man is proclaimed unto you remission of sins:

³⁹ and by him every one that believeth is justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

⁴⁰ Beware therefore, lest that come upon you which is spoken in the prophets:

⁷ Which was with the deputy of the country, Sergius Paulus, a prudent man; who called for Barnabas and Saul, and desired to hear the word of God.

⁸ But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn away the deputy from the faith.

⁹ Then Saul, (who also is called Paul,) filled with the Holy Ghost, set his eyes on him,

¹⁰ And said, O full of all subtilty and all mischief, thou child of the devil, thou enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

¹¹ And now, behold, the hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season. And immediately there fell on him a mist and a darkness; and he went about seeking some to lead him by the hand.

¹² Then the deputy, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the doctrine of the Lord.

¹³ Now when Paul and his company loosed from Paphos, they came to Perga in Pamphylia: and John departing from them returned to Jerusalem.

¹⁴ But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antioch in Pisidia, and went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and sat down.

¹⁵ And after the reading of the law and the prophets the rulers of the synagogue sent unto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye have any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

¹⁶ Then Paul stood up, and beckoning with his hand said, Men of Israel, and ye that fear God, give audience.

¹⁷ The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt as strangers in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm brought he them out of it.

¹⁸ And about the time of forty years suffered he their manners in the wilderness.

¹⁹ And when he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Chanaan, he divided their land to them by lot.

²⁰ And after that he gave unto them judges about the space of four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.

²¹ And afterward they desired a king: and God gave unto them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, by the space of forty years.

²² And when he had removed him, he raised up unto them David to be their king; to whom also he gave testimony, and said, I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after mine own heart, which shall fulfil all my will.

²³ Of this man’s seed hath God according to his promise raised unto Israel a Saviour, Jesus:

²⁴ When John had first preached before his coming the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

²⁵ And as John fulfilled his course, he said, Whom think ye that I am? I am not he. But, behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.

²⁶ Men and brethren, children of the stock of Abraham, and whosoever among you feareth God, to you is the word of this salvation sent.

²⁷ For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they knew him not, nor yet the voices of the prophets which are read every sabbath day, they have fulfilled them in condemning him.

²⁸ And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate that he should be slain.

²⁹ And when they had fulfilled all that was written of him, they took him down from the tree, and laid him in a sepulchre.

³⁰ But God raised him from the dead:

³¹ And he was seen many days of them which came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.

³² And we declare unto you glad tidings, how that the promise which was made unto the fathers,

³³ God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee.

³⁴ And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David.

³⁵ Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

³⁶ For David, after he had served his own generation by the will of God, fell on sleep, and was laid unto his fathers, and saw corruption:

³⁷ But he, whom God raised again, saw no corruption.

³⁸ Be it known unto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached unto you the forgiveness of sins:

³⁹ And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

⁴⁰ Beware therefore, lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets;

² While they were worshipping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said to them, “Appoint Barnabas and Saul to serve me and to go and do the work that I have chosen them to do!”

³ So they continued ◄to fast/to abstain from eating food► and pray. Then having put their hands on Barnabas and Saul and praying that God would help them, they sent them off to do what the Holy Spirit had commanded.

⁴ Barnabas and Saul, guided by the Holy Spirit, went down from Antioch to Seleucia port. From there they went by ship to Salamis port on Cyprus Island.

⁵ While they were in Salamis, they went to the Jewish meeting places. There they proclaimed the message from God about Jesus. John Mark went with them and was helping them.

⁶ The three of them went across the entire island to Paphos city. There they met a magician whose name was Bar-Jesus. He was a Jew who falsely claimed ◄to be a prophet/to speak messages from God►.

⁷ He often accompanied the governor of the island, Sergius Paulus, who was an intelligent man. The governor sent someone to ask Barnabas and Saul to come to him, because he wanted to hear God's message. So Barnabas and Saul came and told him about Jesus.

⁸ However, the magician, whose name was Elymas in the Greek language, was opposing them. He repeatedly tried to persuade the governor not to believe in Jesus.

⁹ Then Saul, who now called himself Paul, empowered by the Holy Spirit, looked intently at the magician and said,

¹⁰ “You (sg) are serving the devil and you oppose everything that is good! You are always lying to people and doing other evil things to them. ◄You must stop saying that the truth about the Lord God is a lot of lies!/When will you stop changing what is true about the Lord God and saying what is not true about him?► RHQ

¹¹ Right now the Lord God MTY is going to punish you! You will become blind and not even be able to see light for some time.” At once he became blind, as though he was in a dark mist, and he groped about, searching for someone to hold him by the hand and lead him.

¹² When the governor saw what had happened to Elymas, he believed in the Lord Jesus. He was amazed by what Paul and Barnabas were teaching about the Lord Jesus.

¹³ After that, Paul and the two men with him went by ship from Paphos to Perga port in Pamphylia province. At Perga John Mark left them and returned to his home in Jerusalem.

¹⁴ Then Paul and Barnabas traveled by land from Perga, and arrived in Antioch city near Pisidia district in Galatia province. ◄On the Sabbath/On the Jewish rest day► they entered the synagogue/the Jewish meeting place and sat down.

¹⁵ Someone read aloud from what Moses had written. Then someone read from what the other prophets had written MTY. Then the leaders of the Jewish meeting place gave someone this note to take to Paul and Barnabas: “Fellow Jews, if one of you wants to speak to the people here to encourage them, please speak to us(exc) now.”

¹⁶ So Paul stood up and motioned with his right hand so that the people would listen to him. Then he said, “Fellow Israelis and you non-Jewish people who also worship God, please listen to me!

¹⁷ God, whom we (inc) Israelis worship, chose our ancestors to be his people, and he caused them to become very numerous while they were foreigners living in Egypt. Then after many years, God helped them MTY powerfully and led them out of there.

¹⁸ Even though they repeatedly disobeyed him, he cared for them for about forty years while they were in the desert.

¹⁹ He enabled the Israelis to conquer seven tribal groups who were then living in Canaan region, and he gave their land to us Israelis for us to possess.

²⁰ Our ancestors began to possess Canaan about 450 years after their ancestors had arrived in Egypt.” Acts 13:20b-22 “After that, God appointed leaders to rule the Israeli people. Those leaders continued to rule our people until the time when the prophet Samuel ruled them.

²¹ Then, while Samuel was still their leader, the people demanded that he appoint a king to rule them. So God appointed Saul, the son of Kish, from the tribe of Benjamin, to be their king. He ruled them for forty years.

²² After God had rejected Saul from being king, he appointed David to be their king. God said about him, ‘I have observed that David, son of Jesse, is exactly the kind of man that I desire IDM. He will do everything that I want him to do.’ ”

²³ “From among David's descendants, God brought one of them, Jesus, to us Israeli people to save us, just like he had told David and our other ancestors that he would do.

²⁴ Before Jesus began his work, John the Baptizer preached to all of our Israeli people who came to him. He told them that they should turn away from their sinful behavior and ask God to forgive them. Then he would baptize them.

²⁵ When John was about to finish the work that God gave him to do, he frequently said to the people, ‘Do you think RHQ that I am the Messiah whom God promised to send? No, I am not. But listen! The Messiah will soon come. He is so much greater than I am that I am not even important enough to be his slave MET.’”

²⁶ “Fellow Israelis, you who are descendants of Abraham, and you non-Jewish people who also worship God, please listen! It is to all of us that God has sent the message about how he saves people.

²⁷ The people who were living in Jerusalem and their rulers did not realize that this man Jesus was the one whom God had sent to save them. Although messages from MTY the prophets have been read aloud {someone has read aloud messages from MTY the prophets} every ◄Sabbath/Jewish day of rest►, they did not understand what the prophets wrote about the Messiah. So the Jewish leaders condemned Jesus to die, which was just like the prophets predicted.

²⁸ Many people accused Jesus of doing wicked things, but they could not prove that he had done anything for which he deserved to die. They insistently asked Pilate the governor to command that Jesus be executed {to command soldiers to execute Jesus}. So Pilate did what they asked him to do.

²⁹ They did to Jesus all the things that the prophets long ago had written that people would do to him. They killed Jesus by nailing him to a cross. Then his body was taken { some people took his body} down from the cross and placed it in a tomb.

³⁰ However, God ◄raised him from the dead/caused him to live again after he had died►

³¹ and for many days he repeatedly appeared to his followers who had come along with him from Galilee province to Jerusalem. Those who saw him are telling the Jewish people about him now.”

³² “ Right now we two are proclaiming to you this good message. We want to tell you that God has fulfilled what he promised to our Jewish ancestors!

³³ He has now done that for us (inc) who are their descendants, and also for you who are not Jews, by causing Jesus to live again. That is just like what David wrote in the second Psalm that God said when he was sending his Son, You (sg) are my Son; Today I have shown everyone that I really am your Father.

³⁴ God has ◄raised the Messiah from the dead/caused the Messiah to live again after he had died► and will never let him die again. Concerning that, God said to our Jewish ancestors, ‘I will surely help you, as I promised David that I would do.’

³⁵ So in writing another Psalm, David said this to God about the Messiah: ‘Because I am devoted to you and always obey you, when I die you (sg) will not let my body decay.’

³⁶ While David was living, he did what God wanted him to do. And when he died EUP, his body was buried, as his ancestors' bodies had been buried, and his body decayed. So he could not have been speaking about himself in this Psalm.

³⁷ Instead, he was speaking about Jesus. Jesus also died, but God ◄raised him from the dead/caused him to live again►, and therefore his body did not decay.”

³⁸ “Therefore, my fellow Israelis and other friends, it is important for you to know that we(exc) are declaring to you that God can forgive you for your sins as a result of what Jesus has done. Because of what Jesus has done, God considers that everyone who believes in Jesus is no longer guilty (OR, the record has been erased { God has erased the record}) concerning everything that they have done that displeased God. But when God does that for you, it is not as a result of your obeying the laws that Moses wrote.

⁴⁰ Therefore be careful that God does not judge you MTY, as one of the prophets said MTY that God would do!

² As they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Separate Barnabas and Saul for me, for the work to which I have called them.”

³ Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

⁴ So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia. From there they sailed to Cyprus.

⁷ who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God.

⁸ But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

⁹ But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him

¹⁰ and said, “You son of the devil, full of all deceit and all cunning, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

¹¹ Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season!” Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

¹² Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

¹³ Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.

¹⁶ Paul stood up, and gesturing with his hand said, “Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen.

¹⁷ The God of this people chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they stayed as aliens in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm, he led them out of it.

¹⁸ For a period of about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness.

¹⁹ When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land for an inheritance for about four hundred fifty years.

²⁰ After these things, he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.

²¹ Afterward they asked for a king, and God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.

²² When he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, to whom he also testified, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’

²³ From this man’s offspring, God has brought salvation to Israel according to his promise,

²⁴ before his coming, when John had first preached the baptism of repentance to Israel.

²⁵ As John was fulfilling his course, he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But behold, one comes after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

²⁶ “Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to you.

²⁷ For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they didn’t know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.

²⁸ Though they found no cause for death, they still asked Pilate to have him killed.

²⁹ When they had fulfilled all things that were written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.

³⁰ But God raised him from the dead,

³¹ and he was seen for many days by those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses to the people.

³² We bring you good news of the promise made to the fathers,

³³ that God has fulfilled this to us, their children, in that he raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second psalm, ‘You are my Son. Today I have become your father.’

³⁴ “Concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he has spoken thus: ‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.’

³⁵ Therefore he says also in another psalm, ‘You will not allow your Holy One to see decay.’

³⁶ For David, after he had in his own generation served the counsel of God, fell asleep, was laid with his fathers, and saw decay.

³⁷ But he whom God raised up saw no decay.

³⁸ Be it known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins;

³⁹ and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.

⁴⁰ Beware therefore, lest that come on you which is spoken in the prophets:

⁵ When they were at Salamis, they proclaimed God’s word in the Jewish synagogues. They also had John as their attendant.

⁶ When they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar Jesus,

⁷ who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God.

⁸ But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

⁹ But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him

¹⁰ and said, “You son of the devil, full of all deceit and all cunning, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

¹¹ Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season!” Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

¹² Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

¹³ Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.

¹⁴ But they, passing on from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia. They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down.

¹⁵ After the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, speak.”

¹⁶ Paul stood up, and gesturing with his hand said, “Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen.

¹⁷ The God of this people chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they stayed as aliens in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm, he led them out of it.

¹⁸ For a period of about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness.

¹⁹ When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land for an inheritance for about four hundred fifty years.

²⁰ After these things, he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.

²¹ Afterward they asked for a king, and God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.

²² When he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, to whom he also testified, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’

²³ From this man’s offspring, God has brought salvation to Israel according to his promise,

²⁴ before his coming, when John had first preached the baptism of repentance to Israel.

²⁵ As John was fulfilling his course, he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But behold, one comes after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

²⁶ “Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to you.

²⁷ For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they didn’t know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.

²⁸ Though they found no cause for death, they still asked Pilate to have him killed.

²⁹ When they had fulfilled all things that were written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.

³⁰ But God raised him from the dead,

³¹ and he was seen for many days by those who came up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses to the people.

³² We bring you good news of the promise made to the fathers,

³³ that God has fulfilled this to us, their children, in that he raised up Jesus. As it is also written in the second psalm, ‘You are my Son. Today I have become your father.’

³⁷ But he whom God raised up saw no decay.

³⁸ Be it known to you therefore, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you remission of sins;

³⁹ and by him everyone who believes is justified from all things, from which you could not be justified by the law of Moses.

⁸ But Elymas, the wonder-worker (for that is the sense of his name), put himself against them, with the purpose of turning the ruler from the faith.

⁹ But Saul, whose other name is Paul, being full of the Holy Spirit, looking hard at him, said,

¹⁰ O you, who are full of false tricks and evil ways, a son of the Evil One, hating all righteousness, will you for ever be turning people from the right ways of the Lord?

¹¹ And now, see, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind and not able to see the sun for a time. And straight away a dark mist came down on him; and he went about looking for a guide.

¹² Then the ruler, when he saw what was done, had faith, being full of wonder at the teaching of the Lord.

¹³ Then Paul and those who were with him went by ship from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia: and there John went away from them and came back to Jerusalem.

¹⁴ But they, going through from Perga, came to Antioch in Pisidia; and they went into the Synagogue on the Sabbath and were seated.

¹⁶ And Paul, getting up and making a sign with his hand, said, Men of Israel, and you who have the fear of God, give ear.

¹⁷ The God of this people Israel made selection of our fathers, lifting the people up from their low condition when they were living in the land of Egypt, and with a strong arm took them out of it.

¹⁸ And for about forty years he put up with their ways in the waste land.

¹⁹ And having put to destruction seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them the land for their heritage for about four hundred and fifty years.

²⁰ And after these things he gave them judges, till the time of Samuel the prophet.

²¹ Then at their request for a king, God gave them Saul, the son of Kish, a man of the family of Benjamin, who was their king for forty years.

²² And having put him on one side, he made David their king, to whom he gave witness, saying, I have taken David, the son of Jesse, a man dear to my heart, who will do all my pleasure.

²³ From this man's seed has God given to Israel a Saviour, even Jesus, as he gave his word;

²⁴ For whose coming John made ready the way by preaching to all the people of Israel the baptism which goes with a change of heart.

²⁵ And when John was completing his work, he said, What do I seem to you to be? I am not he; but one is coming after me, whose shoes I am not good enough to undo.

²⁶ My brothers, children of the family of Abraham, and those among you who have the fear of God, to us the word of this salvation is sent.

²⁷ For the men of Jerusalem and their rulers, having no knowledge of him, or of the sayings of the prophets which come to their ears every Sabbath day, gave effect to them by judging him.

²⁸ And though no cause of death was seen in him, they made a request to Pilate that he might be put to death.

²⁹ And when they had done all the things said in the Writings about him, they took him down from the tree, and put him in the place of the dead.

³⁰ But God gave him back from the dead:

³¹ And for a number of days he was seen by those who came with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are now his witnesses before the people.

³² And we are giving you the good news of the undertaking made to the fathers,

³³ Which God has now put into effect for our children, by sending Jesus; as it says in the second Psalm, You are my Son; this day I have given you being.

³⁴ And about his coming back from the dead, never again to go to destruction, he has said these words, I will give you the holy and certain mercies of David.

³⁵ Because he says in another Psalm, You will not let your Holy One see destruction.

³⁶ Now David, having done God's work for his generation, went to sleep, and was put with his fathers, and his body came to destruction:

³⁷ But he, who was lifted up by God, did not see destruction.

³⁸ And so, let it be clear to you, my brothers, that through this man forgiveness of sins is offered to you:

³⁹ And through him everyone who has faith is made free from all those things, from which the law of Moses was not able to make you free.

⁴⁰ So take care that these words of the prophets do not come true for you;

² And as they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, Separate me now Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them.

²⁵ And as John was fulfilling his course he said, Whom do ye suppose that I am? I am not he. But behold, there comes one after me, the sandal of whose feet I am not worthy to loose.

²⁶ Brethren, sons of Abraham's race, and those who among you fear God, to you has the word of this salvation been sent:

²⁷ for those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, not having known him, have fulfilled also the voices of the prophets which are read on every sabbath, by judging him.

³⁸ Be it known unto you, therefore, brethren, that through this man remission of sins is preached to you,

³⁹ and from all things from which ye could not be justified in the law of Moses, in him every one that believes is justified.

¹⁶ Then Paul rising up, and with his hand bespeaking silence, said: Ye men of Israel, and you that fear God, give ear.

¹⁸ And for the space of forty years endured their manners in the desert.

²⁰ As it were, after four hundred and fifty years: and after these things, he gave unto them judges, until Samuel the prophet.

²¹ And after that they desired a king: and God gave them Saul the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, forty years.

²² And when he had removed him, he raised them up David to be king: to whom giving testimony, he said: I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man according to my own heart, who shall do all my wills.

²³ Of this man’s seed God according to his promise, hath raised up to Israel a Saviour, Jesus:

²⁵ And when John was fulfilling his course, he said: I am not he, whom you think me to be: but behold, there cometh one after me, whose shoes of his feet I am not worthy to loose.

²⁷ For they that inhabited Jerusalem, and the rulers thereof, not knowing him, nor the voices of the prophets, which are read every sabbath, judging him have fulfilled them.

³² And we proclaim to you the good news of the promise which was made to the fathers,

³³ that God has fulfilled this promise for us to their children, when He raised up Jesus, as it is also written in the second Psalm: ‘You are My Son, today I have begotten You.’

³⁴ And that He raised Him from the dead, no longer being about to return to corruption, thus He has said: ‘I will give you the holy and sure blessings of David.’

³⁵ Therefore also in another Psalm He says, ‘You will not allow Your Holy One to see corruption.’

³⁶ “For David indeed in his own generation, having served by the purpose of God, died, and was buried with his fathers, and saw corruption;

³⁷ but He whom God raised up did not see corruption.

³⁸ Therefore let it be known to you, brothers, that through this Man forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you,

³⁹ and from all things from which you could not (by the Law of Moses) be justified, by Him everyone that believes is justified.

⁴⁰ Watch therefore, lest there come upon you that which was spoken of in the prophets:

² As they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart to me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them!”

³ Then, having fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them off.

⁴ So, having been sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia; and from there they sailed to Cyprus.

⁵ And upon arriving in Salamis, they started proclaiming the Word of God in the synagogues of the Jews (also they had John as assistant).

⁶ Now when they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew named Bar-Jesus,

⁷ who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul, really wanting to hear the Word of God.

⁸ But the sorcerer Elymas (for so his name is translated) opposed them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

⁹ Then Saul, also called Paul, filled with Holy Spirit and looking intently at him,

¹⁰ said: “O full of all deceit and all trickery, son of a devil, enemy of all righteousness! Will you not stop perverting the straight ways of the Lord?

¹¹ Well now, the Lord's hand is against you and you will be blind, not seeing the sun until next season!” Immediately mist and darkness engulfed him, and he started going around looking for someone to lead him by the hand.

¹² Then the proconsul believed, when he saw what had happened, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

¹³ Then Paul and his party set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphilia (here John left them and returned to Jerusalem).

¹⁴ Going on from Perga they arrived in Antioch of Pisidia; and entering the synagogue on the Sabbath day, they sat down.

¹⁵ After the reading of the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue leaders sent to them, saying, “Men, brothers, if you have a word of encouragement for the people, do speak.”

¹⁶ So standing up and motioning with his hand, Paul said: “Men of Israel and you who fear God, listen.

¹⁷ The God of this people chose our fathers, and prospered the people during their sojourn in the land of Egypt, and brought them out of it with an uplifted arm.

¹⁸ For a period of about forty years He put up with them in the wilderness.

¹⁹ And when He had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He gave them possession of their land.

²⁰ After these things, He gave judges for about four hundred and fifty years, until Samuel the prophet.

²¹ And then they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul, a son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.

²² And removing him He raised up for them David as king, about whom He gave witness and said, ‘I have found David son of Jesse a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’

²³ God, from this man's seed, according to promise, has brought Salvation to Israel,

²⁴ John having heralded beforehand, in advance of His coming, a baptism of repentance to Israel.

²⁵ Well, as John was fulfilling his course, he said: ‘Whom do you suppose me to be? No I am not—but indeed He comes after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

²⁶ “Men, brothers, sons of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God: to you the word of this salvation has been sent.

²⁷ The Jerusalem dwellers and their rulers, understanding neither Him nor the voices of the prophets that are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning Him.

²⁸ Though they found no cause for death, they asked Pilate to have Him executed.

²⁹ When they had fulfilled all things that were written about Him, they took Him down from the cross and placed Him in a tomb.

³⁰ But God raised Him from the dead;

³¹ and for many days He was seen by those who came up with Him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are His witnesses to the people.

³⁸ Therefore, let it be known to you, men, brothers, that through this One forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you;

³⁹ and by Him everyone who believes is justified from everything you could not be justified from by the Law of Moses.

⁴⁰ So take care, lest there come upon you that which has been spoken in the prophets:

³ After they had fasted, prayed, and placed their hands on them in blessing, they sent them on their way.

⁴ So Barnabas and Saul, directed by the Holy Spirit, went to Seleucia. From there they sailed to Cyprus.

⁵ Arriving at Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the Jewish synagogues. John was with them as their assistant.

⁶ They traveled throughout the island and eventually came to Paphos. There they found a Jewish magician, a false prophet by the name of Bar-jesus.

⁷ He was close to the governor, Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man. Sergius Paulus invited Barnabas and Saul to come and visit him since he wanted to hear the word of God.

⁸ But the magician Elymas (his Greek name) opposed them, trying to prevent the governor from trusting in God.

⁹ Saul, also called Paul, was filled with the Holy Spirit, and looked straight at him.

¹⁰ “You are full of deception and all kinds of evil, you son of the devil, you enemy of all that is right! Will you never give up perverting the Lord's true ways?

¹¹ Look, the Lord's hand is on you and you will become blind. You will not see the sun for some time.” Immediately mist and darkness fell on him, and he had to find someone who could lead him by the hand.

¹² When the governor saw what happened he trusted in God, amazed at the teaching about the Lord.

¹³ Then Paul and those with him sailed from Paphos and went to Perga in Pamphylia, while John left them and went back to Jerusalem.

¹⁴ They went through Perga and on to Antioch of Pisidia. On the Sabbath day they went into the synagogue and were seated.

¹⁵ After the readings from the Law and the Prophets, the synagogue leaders sent them a message saying, “Brothers, please share with the congregation any words of encouragement you may have.”

¹⁶ Paul stood up, motioned with his hand to get their attention, and began speaking. “Men of Israel, and all of you who have reverence for God, listen to me.

¹⁷ The God of the people of Israel chose our forefathers, and gave our people prosperity during their stay in the land of Egypt. Then with his mighty power he led them out of Egypt,

¹⁸ and he patiently dealt with them in the desert for about forty years.

¹⁹ After he had overthrown seven nations living in the land of Canaan, God divided their land among the Israelites and gave it to them to inherit. This took about four hundred and fifty years.

²⁰ Then he provided them with judges as leaders until the time of the prophet Samuel.

²¹ Then the people asked for a king, and God gave them Saul, son of Kish from the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled for forty years.

²² Then God removed Saul, and made David their king. God approved of David, saying ‘I found David the son of Jesse to be a man according to my own heart; he will do everything I intend.’

²³ Jesus is David's descendant; he is the Savior that God promised to bring to Israel.

²⁴ Before Jesus came, John announced the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

²⁵ As John was completing his mission, he said, ‘Who do you think I am? I am not the one you're looking for. But after me one is coming whose sandals I'm not worthy to untie.’

²⁶ My brothers, children of Abraham and those of you who have reverence for God: the message of this salvation has been sent to us!

²⁷ The people living in Jerusalem and their leaders didn't recognize Jesus or understand the words spoken by the prophets that are read every Sabbath. In fact they fulfilled the prophetic words by condemning him!

²⁸ Even though they couldn't find any evidence to sentence him to death, they still asked Pilate to have him killed.

²⁹ After they had fulfilled everything predicted that they would do to him, they took him down from the cross and buried him in a tomb.

³⁰ But God raised him from the dead,

³¹ and he appeared over the course of many days to those who had followed him from Galilee to Jerusalem. They are now his witnesses to the people.

³² We are here to bring to you the good news of the promise that God made to our forefathers,

³³ that he has now fulfilled to us their children by raising Jesus from the dead. As it is written in Psalm 2: ‘You are my Son; today I have become your Father.’

³⁴ God raised him from the dead, never to die again, as he indicated by saying, ‘I will give you what is holy and trustworthy, as I promised to David.’

³⁵ As another psalm says, ‘You will not allow your Holy One to see decay.’

³⁶ But David died, after he had done what God wanted in his own time, and he was buried with his ancestors, and his body decayed.

³⁷ The one God raised from the dead saw no decay.

³⁸ My brothers, I want you to understand that we're telling you that through this man sins are forgiven.

³⁹ Through him everyone who trusts in him is made morally right from all that is wrong—in a way that you could never be set right by the law of Moses.

⁴⁰ Make sure that what the prophets said doesn't happen to you:

³ Then fasted they and prayed, and layde their hands on them, and let them goe.

⁴ And they, after they were sent foorth of the holy Ghost, came downe vnto Seleucia, and from thence they sayled to Cyprus.

⁵ And when they were at Salamis, they preached the worde of God in the Synagogues of the Iewes: and they had also Iohn to their minister.

¹⁰ And sayde, O full of all subtiltie and all mischiefe, the childe of the deuill, and enemie of all righteousnesse, wilt thou not cease to peruert the straight waies of the Lord?

¹¹ Nowe therefore behold, the hand of the Lord is vpon thee, and thou shalt be blinde, and not see the sunne for a season. And immediately there fel on him a mist and a darknes; and he went about, seeking some to leade him by the hand.

¹² Then the Deputie when he sawe what was done, beleeued, and was astonied at the doctrine of the Lord.

¹³ Nowe when Paul and they that were with him were departed by shippe from Paphus, they came to Perga a citie of Pamphylia: then Iohn departed from them, and returned to Hierusalem.

¹⁴ But when they departed from Perga, they came to Antiochia a citie of Pisidia, and went into the Synagogue on ye Sabbath day, and sate downe.

¹⁵ And after the lecture of the Law and Prophets, the rulers of ye Synagogue sent vnto them, saying, Ye men and brethren, if ye haue any word of exhortation for the people, say on.

¹⁶ Then Paul stoode vp and beckened with the hand, and sayde, Men of Israel, and yee that feare God, hearken.

¹⁷ The God of this people of Israel chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they dwelt in the land of Egypt, and with an high arme brought them out thereof.

¹⁸ And about the time of fourtie yeeres, suffered he their maners in the wildernesse.

¹⁹ And he destroied seuen nations in the land of Chanaan, and deuided their lad to them by lot.

²⁰ Then afterward he gaue vnto them Iudges about foure hundreth and fiftie yeeres, vnto the time of Samuel the Prophet.

²¹ So after that, they desired a King, and God gaue vnto them Saul, the sonne of Cis, a man of ye tribe of Beniamin, by the space of fourty yeres.

²² And after he had taken him away, he raised vp Dauid to be their King, of whom he witnessed, saying, I haue found Dauid the sonne of Iesse, a man after mine owne heart, which will doe all things that I will.

²³ Of this mans seede hath God according to his promise raised vp to Israel, ye Sauiour Iesus:

²⁴ When Iohn had first preached before his coming the baptisme of repentance to all the people of Israel.

²⁵ And when Iohn had fulfilled his course, he saide, Whom ye thinke that I am, I am not he: but beholde, there commeth one after me, whose shooe of his feete I am not worthy to loose.

²⁶ Yee men and brethren, children of the generation of Abraham, and whosoeuer among you feareth God, to you is the woorde of this saluation sent.

²⁷ For the inhabitants of Hierusalem, and their rulers, because they knewe him not, nor yet the woordes of the Prophets, which are read euery Sabbath day, they haue fulfilled them in condemning him.

²⁸ And though they found no cause of death in him, yet desired they Pilate to kill him.

²⁹ And when they had fulfilled all things that were written of him, they tooke him downe from the tree, and put him in a sepulchre.

³⁰ But God raised him vp from the dead.

³¹ And hee was seene many dayes of them, which came vp with him from Galile to Hierusalem, which are his witnesses vnto the people.

³² And we declare vnto you, that touching the promise made vnto the fathers,

³³ God hath fulfilled it vnto vs their children, in that he raised vp Iesus, euen as it is written in the seconde Psalme, Thou art my Sonne: this day haue I begotten thee.

³⁴ Nowe as concerning that he raised him vp from the dead, no more to returne to corruption, he hath said thus, I wil giue you the holy things of Dauid, which are faithfull.

³⁵ Wherefore hee sayeth also in another place, Thou wilt not suffer thine Holy one to see corruption.

³⁶ Howbeit, Dauid after hee had serued his time by the counsell of God, hee slept, and was laid with his fathers, and sawe corruption.

³⁷ But he whom God raised vp, sawe no corruption.

³⁸ Be it knowen vnto you therefore, men and brethren, that through this man is preached vnto you the forgiuenesse of sinnes.

³⁹ And from al things, from which ye could not be iustified by the Law of Moses, by him euery one that beleeueth, is iustified.

³⁷ but he whom God raised from the dead did not see corruption.

³⁸ Be it therefore known to you, brethren, that through this man is announced to you the forgiveness of sins;

³⁹ and by him every one that believeth is justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.

² While they were engaged in the worship of the Lord and were fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul, for the work to which I have called them.”

³ Accordingly, after fasting and prayer, they placed their hands on them and dismissed them.

⁴ Barnabas and Saul, sent on this mission, as they were, by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia, and from there sailed to Cyprus.

⁵ On reaching Salamis, they began to tell the message of God in the Jewish synagogues; and they had John with them as an assistant.

⁶ After passing through the whole island, they reached Paphos, where they found an astrologer who pretended to be a prophet — a Jew by birth, whose name was Barjoshua.

⁷ He was at the court of the Governor, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who sent for Barnabas and Saul and asked to be told God's message.

⁸ But Elymas, the astrologer (for that is the meaning of the word), opposed them, eager to divert the Governor's attention from the faith.

⁹ However, Saul (who is the same as Paul), full of the Holy Spirit, fixed his eyes on him and said,

¹⁰ “You incarnation of deceit and all fraud! You son of the devil! You opponent of all that is good! Will you never cease to divert the straight paths of the Lord? Listen!

¹¹ The hand of the Lord is on you even now, and you will be blind for a time and unable to see the sun.” Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him, and he went feeling about for someone to guide him.

¹² When the Governor saw what had happened, he became a believer in Christ, being greatly impressed by the teaching about the Lord.

¹³ After this, Paul and his companions set sail from Paphos and went to Perga in Pamphylia, where John left them and returned to Jerusalem.

¹⁴ The others went on from Perga and arrived at Antioch in Pisidia. There they went into the synagogue on the Sabbath and took their seats.

¹⁵ After the reading of the Law and the prophets, the synagogue leader sent them this message — “Friends, if you have any helpful words to address to the people, now is the time to speak.”

¹⁶ So Paul rose and, motioning with his hand, said: “People of Israel and all here who worship God, hear what I have to say.

¹⁷ The God of this people Israel chose our ancestors, and during their stay in Egypt increased the prosperity of the people, and then with uplifted arm brought them out from that land.

¹⁸ For about forty years he bore with them in the desert;

¹⁹ then, after destroying seven heathen nations in Canaan, he allotted their land to this people —

²⁰ For about four hundred and fifty years. In later times he gave them Judges, of whom the prophet Samuel was the last.

²¹ And, when they demanded a king, God gave them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, who reigned for forty years.

²² After removing him, he raised David to the throne, and bore this testimony to him — ‘In David, the son of Jesse, I have found a man after my own heart, who will carry out all my purposes.’

²³ It was from this man's descendants that God, in accordance with his promise, gave Israel a Saviour — Jesus;

²⁴ John having first proclaimed, before the appearance of Jesus, a baptism on repentance for all the people of Israel.

²⁵ As John was drawing towards the end of his career, he said ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not the Christ. But there is “one coming” after me, whose sandal I am not worthy to untie.’

²⁶ Brothers and sisters, descendants of Abraham, and all those amongst you who worship God, it was to us that the message of this salvation was sent.

²⁷ The people of Jerusalem and their leaders, failing to recognise Jesus, and not understanding the utterances of the prophets that are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.

²⁸ They found no ground at all for putting him to death, and yet demanded his execution from Pilate;

²⁹ and, after carrying out everything written about him, they took Jesus down from the cross, and laid him in a tomb.

³⁰ But God raised him from the dead;

³¹ and he appeared for many days to those who had gone up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, and who are now witnesses for him to the people.

³² We also have good news to tell you, about the promise made to our ancestors —

³³ That our children have had this promise completely fulfilled to them by God, by his raising Jesus. That is just what is said in the second Psalm — ‘You are my Son; this day I have become your Father.’

³⁴ As to his raising Jesus from the dead, never again to return to corruption, this is what is said — ‘I will give to you the sacred promises made to David;’

³⁵ And, therefore, in another Psalm it is said — ‘You will not give up the Holy One to undergo corruption.’

³⁶ David, after obediently doing God's will in his own time, fell asleep and was laid by the side of his ancestors, and did undergo corruption;

³⁷ but Jesus, whom God raised from the dead, did not undergo corruption.

³⁸ I would, therefore, like you to know, friends, that through Jesus forgiveness of sins is being proclaimed to you,

³⁹ and that, in union with him, everyone who believes in him is absolved from every sin from which under the Law of Moses you could not be absolved.

⁴⁰ Beware, therefore, that what is said in the prophets does not come true of you —

² While they were engaged in the worship of the Lord and were fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul, for the work to which I have called them.”

³ Accordingly, after fasting and prayer, they placed their hands on them and dismissed them.

⁴ Barnabas and Saul, sent on this mission, as they were, by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia, and from there sailed to Cyprus.

⁵ On reaching Salamis, they began to tell the message of God in the Jewish synagogues; and they had John with them as an assistant.

⁶ After passing through the whole island, they reached Paphos, where they found an astrologer who pretended to be a prophet — a Jew by birth, whose name was Barjoshua.

⁷ He was at the court of the Governor, Sergius Paulus, a man of intelligence, who sent for Barnabas and Saul and asked to be told God's message.

⁸ But Elymas, the astrologer (for that is the meaning of the word), opposed them, eager to divert the Governor's attention from the faith.

⁹ However, Saul (who is the same as Paul), full of the Holy Spirit, fixed his eyes on him and said,

¹⁰ “You incarnation of deceit and all fraud! You son of the devil! You opponent of all that is good! Will you never cease to divert the straight paths of the Lord? Listen!

¹¹ The hand of the Lord is on you even now, and you will be blind for a time and unable to see the sun.” Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him, and he went feeling about for someone to guide him.

¹² When the Governor saw what had happened, he became a believer in Christ, being greatly impressed by the teaching about the Lord.

² Those men had a special time when they stopped eating any food for a while and they prayed to God. At that time the Holy Spirit said to them, “Pick out Barnabas and Saul for me now. I have special work for them to do.”

³ So those men kept on praying and not eating any food for a bit longer, then they put their hands on Barnabas and Saul, and prayed for them, and told them, “You can go now and do God’s work.”

⁴ The Holy Spirit told Barnabas and Saul the way to go, so they went to the town called Seleucia, and then they got on a ship and sailed to the island called Cyprus.

⁵ They took John Mark with them to help them in their work. They got off the ship at a town called Salamis, and they went to the Jewish meeting houses and told the people God’s message about Jesus.

⁶ Barnabas, Saul and John Mark went over to the other side of the island, to the town called Paphos. The Roman boss of the island lived there. His name was Sergius Paulus. He had a good head, and he wanted to hear God’s message, so he sent men to bring Barnabas and Saul to him. (Saul had another name. They called him Paul.) There was a Jewish man there that worked for Sergius Paulus. His Jewish name was Bar-Jesus, and his Greek name was Elymas. He was a magic man, and he used to reckon that he was telling people God’s messages, but he was lying. Elymas tried to stop Barnabas and Paul from telling God’s message to Sergius Paulus. He kept telling his Roman boss, “Don’t listen to them.”

⁹ But the Holy Spirit was with Paul, and gave him power. He looked straight at Elymas

¹⁰ and said, “You are just like the devil. You are full of lies and bad tricks. You try to stop everything that is good. You try to change God’s true story and you lie about him, trying to trick people. Are you ever going to stop doing that?

¹¹ God will punish you now. He will make you blind and you will not see the sunlight for a while.” Suddenly Elymas felt himself going blind, and he walked around asking somebody to hold his hand and lead him.

¹² The Roman boss saw all that happen, and he heard everything Paul said about our leader Jesus. He thought, “Wow. This is different, and it’s really good.” So he believed in Jesus.

¹³ Paul and his friends got on a ship and left Paphos, on Cyprus Island, and they sailed to the town called Perga, in the country called Pamphylia. Then John Mark got up and left them there, and went back to Jerusalem.

¹⁴ And Paul and Barnabas went on from Perga to another town called Antioch, in the country called Pisidia. Then on Saturday, the day the Jews get together to show respect to God, Paul and Barnabas went into the Jewish meeting house and sat down with the men there.

¹⁵ Some of the leaders in that meeting read from God’s book. They read words from the Law that Moses wrote, and they read other words that God’s men wrote. Then the leaders asked Paul and Barnabas, “Friends, do you have something to say that will help the people here? If you do, tell us.”

¹⁶ So Paul stood up and lifted up his hand to get the people to listen to him. He said, “All you Jewish men and all you other people that respect God, listen to me.

¹⁷ A long time ago the God of us Jewish people picked our grand-fathers of long ago to be his own people. They went to the country called Egypt to live, and while they were there, God made them strong, and they had a lot of kids. So they became a really big mob of people. Then God used his great power and took them out of that country.

¹⁸ Then they were in the desert country for 40 years. Sometimes they didn’t listen to God, but he looked after them anyway.

¹⁹ Then they came to the country called Canaan, and God helped them fight against 7 different tribes, and they won. They killed all their enemies, and God gave that country to his own people to keep.

²⁰ All of that took about 450 years. Then God picked leaders to look after them, until the time that Samuel was their leader. He was a man that told God’s messages to the people.

²¹ Samuel was their leader, but the people asked him to get a man to be their big boss, and God gave them a man called Saul. He was the son of a man called Kish. Saul belonged to the Benjamin tribe, and he was their big boss for 40 years.

²² Then God stopped Saul from being their big boss, and God picked David, and made him the big boss of the Israel people. And God said this, ‘Look at this man, David, the son of Jesse. He is a man that makes me happy. He will do everything that I want him to do.’

²³ And God promised that a man from David’s family will come to save us Israel people. And now that man has come. His name is Jesus.

²⁴ But before Jesus came, a man called John came and talked to us Israel people. He said, ‘Stop doing bad things. Turn around. Turn back to God, and then I will baptise you.’

²⁵ And John said, ‘Who do you reckon I am? Do you think I’m that special man that God promised to send? No way. He will come later. I am nothing. I’m not good enough to touch his feet or untie his shoes.’ That’s what John told everyone when he was finishing his work.

²⁶ Listen, friends. Some of you are Jews that belong to our grand-father Abraham’s family, and some of you are not Jews but you respect our God. All of you listen to this message that God sent to us. It is about the way God wants to save us.

²⁷ A long time ago the men that told God’s words to people wrote those words in his book. They said that God will send a special man, but people will kill him. And people read those words from God’s book in their meetings every Saturday, but they don’t understand them. The people in Jerusalem and their leaders didn’t know that Jesus was that special man, and they said, ‘We have to kill him.’

²⁸ So, even though he didn’t do anything wrong, they asked the judge, Pilate, to kill him anyway.

²⁹ In that way Jesus died, just like those men wrote in God’s book. And after they killed Jesus they took him down from the cross and put him into a grave.

³⁰ But then God made Jesus alive again.

³¹ Then Jesus’s followers saw him a lot of times. They were the mob from Galilee country that came to Jerusalem with him. And now those people are telling everyone about Jesus.

³² And we are telling you the same good news about Jesus. You see, a long time ago God promised our grand-fathers that he will do something good for them,

³³ and now God did it for us, their grand-kids. He made Jesus alive again. You see, we can read it in God’s book, in the part called Psalm number 2. We can read that God said, ‘You are my son. Now people will know that I am your Father.’

³⁴ You see, God made Jesus alive, and he will never rot in the grave. We know this is right because we can read that God told his son, ‘I made special promises to David, and I’m making those same promises to you.’

³⁵ And there is another psalm that David wrote, and in it God said, ‘You will not let your special person rot in the grave.’

³⁶ But God was not saying that about David. You see, at that time, David lived for God, and then he died, and people buried him next to his grand-fathers. His body rotted in that grave.

³⁷ But Jesus’s body didn’t rot in a grave. God made him alive again. So God didn’t say those words about David. He said them about Jesus.

³⁸ You see, my friends I’m telling you this message. Jesus died for us, so if we believe in him God will not say we are guilty for the bad things we did. The law that Moses gave us can’t make us right and good, so that God will not say we are guilty. But if anyone believes in Jesus, God will make them right and good.

⁴⁰ A long time ago God got some of his men to tell people this. They wrote in his book, ‘Listen. You people make fun of God, but I will do something that you will not believe, even if somebody tells you about it. You will be really shocked, and then you will die.’ So you people be careful. Don’t be like those people that God’s men wrote about.” That is the message that Paul told the people in that meeting in Antioch.

² As they mynistred to the Lorde and fasted the holy goost sayde: separate me Barnabas and Saul for the worke where vnto I have called them.

³ Then fasted they and prayed and put their hondes on them and let them goo.

⁴ And they after they were sent of the holy goost came vnto Seleutia and from thence they sayled to Cyprus.

⁵ And when they were come to Salamine they shewed the worde of God in the synagoges of the Iewes. And they had Iohn to their minister.

⁶ When they had gone thorowout the yle vnto the cite of Paphos they foude a certayne sorserer a falce prophet

⁷ which was a Iewe named Bariesu which was with the ruler of the countre won Sergius Paulus a prudet man. The same ruler called vnto him Barnabas and Saul and desyred to heare the worde of God.

⁸ But Elemas the sorcerar (for so was his name by interpretacion) with stode them and sought to turne awaye the ruler from the fayth.

⁹ Then Saul which also is called Paul beinge full of the holy goost set his eyes on him

¹⁰ and sayde: O full of all sutteltie and disseytfulnes the chylde of the devyll and the enemye of all righteousnes thou ceasest not to pervert the strayght wayes of the Lorde.

¹¹ And now beholde the honde of the Lorde is vpon the and thou shalt be blinde and not se the sunne for a season. And immediatly ther fell on him a myste and a darcknes and he went aboute sekinge them that shuld leade him by the honde.

¹² Then the rular when he sawe what had happened beleved and wodred at the doctryne of the Lorde.

¹³ When they that were with Paule were departed by shyppe from Paphus they cam to Perga a cite of Pamphilia: and there Iohn departed from them and returned to Ierusalem.

¹⁴ But they wandred thorowe the countres from Perga to Antioche a cite of the countre of Pisidia and wet in to the synagoge on the saboth daye and sate doune.

¹⁵ And after the lawe and the Prophetes were redde the rulers of the synagoge sent vnto them sayinge: Ye men and brethren yf ye have eny sermon to exhorte ye people saye on.

¹⁶ Then Paul stode vp and beckened with the honde and sayde: Men of Israel and ye that feare God geve audiece.

¹⁷ The God of this people chose oure fathers and exalted the people when they dwelt as straugers in the londe of Egypt and with a mighty arme brought them oute of it

¹⁸ and aboute the tyme of .xl. yeares suffred he their maners in the wyldernes.

¹⁹ And he destroyed .vii. nacions in the londe of Canaan and devided their londe to them by lot.

²⁰ And after warde he gave vnto them iudges aboute the space of .iiii.C. and .l. yeres vnto the tyme of Samuel the Prophet.

²¹ And after that they desyred a kinge and God gave vnto them Saul the sonne of Cis a man of the tribe of Beniamin by the space of .xl. yeres.

²² And after he had put him doune he set vp David to be their kynge of whome he reported sayinge: I have founde David the sonne of Iesse a man after myne awne hert he shall fulfill all my will.

²³ Of this manes seed hath God (accordinge to his promes) brought forth to the people of Israel a saviour one Iesus

²⁴ when Iohn had fyrst preached before his cominge the baptyme of repentaunce to Israel.

²⁵ And when Iohn had fulfylled his course he sayde: whome ye thinke that I am the same am I not. But beholde ther cometh one after me whose shewes of his fete I am not worthy to lowse.

²⁶ Ye men and brethren chyldren of the generacion of Abraham and whosoever amonge you feareth God to you is this worde of salvacion sent.

²⁷ The inhabiters of Ierusalem and their rulers because they knewe him not nor yet the voyces of the Prophetes which are redde every Saboth daye they have fulfilled them in condempninge him.

²⁸ And when they founde no cause of deeth in him yet desyred they Pylate to kyll him.

²⁹ And when they had fulfilled all that were written of him they toke him doune from the tree and put him in a sepulcre.

³⁰ But God raysed him agayne from deeth

³¹ and he was sene many dayes of them which came with him from Galile to Ierusalem. Which are his witnesses vnto the people.

³² And we declare vnto you how that the promes made vnto the fathers

³³ God hath fulfilled vnto vs their chyldren in that he reysed vp Iesus agayne even as it is written in the fyrste psalme: Thou arte my sonne this same daye begat I the.

³⁴ As concernynge that he reysed him vp from deeth now no more to returne to corrupcion he sayde on this wyse: The holy promyses made to David I will geve them faithfully to you.

³⁵ Wherfore he saith also in another place: Thou shalt not soffre thyne holye to se corrupcion.

³⁶ Howbe it David after he had in his tyme fulfilled the will of God he slepte and was layde with his fathers and sawe corrupcion.

³⁷ But he whom God reysed agayne sawe no corrupcion.

³⁸ Be it knowne vnto you therfore ye men and brethren that thorow this man is preached vnto you the forgevenes of synnes

³⁹ and that by him are all that beleve iustified from all thinges from the which ye coulde not be iustified by the lawe of Moses.

⁴⁰ Beware therfore lest that fall on you which is spoken of in the Prophetes:

² While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, “Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul, to do the work to which I have called them.”

³ After they had fasted, prayed, and laid their hands on these men, they sent them off.

⁴ So Barnabas and Saul obeyed the Holy Spirit and went down to Seleucia; from there they sailed to the island of Cyprus.

⁵ When they were in the city of Salamis, they proclaimed the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews. They also had John Mark as their assistant.

⁶ When they had gone through the whole island to Paphos, they found a certain magician, a Jewish false prophet, whose name was Bar Jesus.

⁷ This magician associated with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, who was an intelligent man. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul, because he wanted to hear the word of God.

⁸ But Elymas “the magician” (that is how his name is translated) opposed them; he tried to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

⁹ But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, stared at him intensely.

¹⁰ and said, “You son of the devil, you are full of all kinds of deceit and wickedness. You are an enemy of every kind of righteousness. You will never stop twisting the straight paths of the Lord, will you?

¹¹ Now look, the hand of the Lord is upon you, and you will become blind. You will not see the sun for a while.” Immediately there fell on Elymas a mist and darkness; he started going around asking people to lead him by the hand.

¹² After the proconsul saw what had happened, he believed, because he was astonished at the teaching about the Lord.

¹⁵ After the reading of the law and the prophets, the leaders of the synagogue sent them a message saying, “Brothers, if you have any message of encouragement for the people here, say it.”

¹⁶ So Paul stood up and motioned with his hand; he said, “Men of Israel and you who honor God, listen.

¹⁷ The God of this people Israel chose our fathers and made the people numerous when they stayed in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm he led them out of it.

¹⁸ For about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness.

¹⁹ After he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave our people their land for an inheritance.

²⁰ All these events took place over four hundred and fifty years. After all these things, God gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.

²¹ Then the people asked for a king, and God gave them Saul son of Kish, a man from the tribe of Benjamin, to be king for forty years.

²² After God removed him from the kingship, he raised up David to be their king. It was about David that God said, 'I have found David son of Jesse to be a man after my heart, who does all I want him to do.'

²³ From this man's descendants God has brought to Israel a savior, Jesus, as he promised to do.

²⁴ This began to happen when, before Jesus came, John first announced the baptism of repentance to all the people of Israel.

²⁵ As John was finishing his work, he said, 'Who do you think I am? I am not the one. But listen, one is coming after me, the shoes of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.'

²⁶ Brothers, children of the line of Abraham, and those among you who worship God, it is to us that the message about this salvation has been sent.

²⁷ For they who live in Jerusalem, and their rulers, did not recognize him, and they fulfilled sayings of the prophets that are read every Sabbath by condemning him.

²⁸ Even though they found no good cause for death in him, they asked Pilate to kill him.

²⁹ When they had completed all the things that were written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.

³⁰ But God raised him from the dead.

³¹ He was seen for many days by those who had come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem. These people are now his witnesses to the people.

³² So we are telling you the good news that what God promised to our fathers

³³ he has fulfilled for us, their children, by raising up Jesus. As it is written in the second Psalm: 'You are my Son, today I have become your Father.'

³⁴ The fact that he raised him up from the dead so that his body would never decay, God has spoken in this way: 'I will give you the holy and sure blessings promised to David.'

³⁵ This is why he also says in another Psalm, 'You will not allow your Holy One to see decay.'

³⁶ For when David had served the desires of God in his own generation, he fell asleep; he was laid with his fathers and his body experienced decay.

³⁷ But he whom God raised up experienced no decay.

³⁸ So let it be known to you, brothers, that through this man is proclaimed to you forgiveness of sins.

³⁹ By him every one who believes is justified from all the things which the law of Moses could not justify you.

⁴⁰ So then be careful that the thing the prophets spoke about does not happen to you:

² As they served the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said, “Separate Barnabas and Saul for me, for the work to which I have called them.”

³ Then, when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away.

⁴ So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia. From there they sailed to Cyprus.

⁵ When they were at Salamis, they proclaimed God’s word in the Jewish synagogues. They also had John as their attendant.

⁶ When they had gone through the island to Paphos, they found a certain sorcerer, a false prophet, a Jew whose name was Bar Jesus,

⁷ who was with the proconsul, Sergius Paulus, a man of understanding. This man summoned Barnabas and Saul, and sought to hear the word of God.

⁸ But Elymas the sorcerer (for so is his name by interpretation) withstood them, seeking to turn the proconsul away from the faith.

⁹ But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him

¹⁰ and said, “You son of the devil, full of all deceit and all cunning, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

¹¹ Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season!” Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

¹² Then the proconsul, when he saw what was done, believed, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

¹³ Now Paul and his company set sail from Paphos and came to Perga in Pamphylia. John departed from them and returned to Jerusalem.

¹⁴ But they, passing on from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia. They went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day and sat down.

¹⁵ After the reading of the law and the prophets, the rulers of the synagogue sent to them, saying, “Brothers, if you have any word of exhortation for the people, speak.”

¹⁶ Paul stood up, and gesturing with his hand said, “Men of Israel, and you who fear God, listen.

¹⁷ The God of this people chose our fathers, and exalted the people when they stayed as aliens in the land of Egypt, and with an uplifted arm, he led them out of it.

¹⁸ For a period of about forty years he put up with them in the wilderness.

¹⁹ When he had destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, he gave them their land for an inheritance for about four hundred fifty years.

²⁰ After these things, he gave them judges until Samuel the prophet.

²¹ Afterward they asked for a king, and God gave to them Saul the son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.

²² When he had removed him, he raised up David to be their king, to whom he also testified, ‘I have found David the son of Jesse, a man after my heart, who will do all my will.’

²³ From this man’s offspring, God has brought salvation to Israel according to his promise,

²⁴ before his coming, when John had first preached the baptism of repentance to Israel.

²⁵ As John was fulfilling his course, he said, ‘What do you suppose that I am? I am not he. But behold, one comes after me, the sandals of whose feet I am not worthy to untie.’

²⁶ “Brothers, children of the stock of Abraham, and those among you who fear God, the word of this salvation is sent out to you.

²⁷ For those who dwell in Jerusalem, and their rulers, because they didn’t know him, nor the voices of the prophets which are read every Sabbath, fulfilled them by condemning him.

²⁸ Though they found no cause for death, they still asked Pilate to have him killed.

²⁹ When they had fulfilled all things that were written about him, they took him down from the tree and laid him in a tomb.

⁹ But Saul, who is also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, fastened his eyes on him

¹⁰ and said, “You son of the devil, full of all deceit and all cunning, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to pervert the right ways of the Lord?

¹¹ Now, behold, the hand of the Lord is on you, and you will be blind, not seeing the sun for a season!” Immediately a mist and darkness fell on him. He went around seeking someone to lead him by the hand.

¹⁰ and said, A! thou full of all guile, and all falseness, thou son of the devil, thou enemy of all rightwise-ness, thou leavest not to turn upside-down, or to subvert, or to destroy, the rightful ways of the Lord.

¹¹ And now lo! the hand of the Lord is on thee, and thou shalt be blind, and not seeing the sun into a time. And anon, a mist and darkness felled down on him; and he went about, and sought him that should give the hand to him.

²⁰ as after four hundred and fifty years. And after these things he gave doomsmen, till to Samuel, the prophet.

²¹ And from that time they asked a king, and God gave to them Saul, the son of Cis, a man of the lineage of Benjamin, by forty years.

²² And when he was done away, he raised to them David the king, to whom he bare witnessing, and said, I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after mine heart, which shall do all my will.

²³ Of whose seed by the promise God hath led out to Israel a Saviour Jesus,

²⁴ when John preached before the face of his coming the baptism of penance to all the people of Israel.

²⁵ But when John ful filled his course, he said, I am not he, whom ye deem me to be; but lo! he cometh after me, and I am not worthy to do off or to unbind the shoes of his feet.

²⁶ Brethren, and sons of the kind of Abraham, and which that in you dread God, to you the word of health is sent.

²⁷ For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and princes of it, that knew not this Jesus, and the voices of prophets, that by every sabbath be read, deemed, and fulfilled;

²⁸ and they found in him no cause of death, and asked of Pilate, that they should slay him.

²⁹ And when they had ended all things that were written of him, they took him down off the tree, and laid him in a grave.

³⁰ And God raised him from death in the third day;

³¹ which was seen by many days to them that went up together with him from Galilee into Jerusalem, which be till now his witnesses to the people.

³² And we show to you the promise that was made to our fathers;

³³ for God hath fulfilled this to their sons, and again-raised Jesus; as in the second psalm it is written, Thou art my Son, today I begat thee.

³⁴ And he that again-raised him from death, that he should not turn again into corruption, said thus, For I shall give to you the holy true things of David.

³⁵ Therefore and in another stead he saith, Thou shalt not give thine Holy to see corruption.

³⁶ But David in his generation, when he had ministered to the will of God, died or slept, and was laid with his fathers, and saw corruption;

³⁷ but he whom God raised from death, saw not corruption.

³⁸ Therefore, brethren, be it known to you, that by him remission of sins is told to you,

³⁹ from all sins, of which ye might not be justified in the law of Moses. In this each man that believeth, is justified.

⁴⁰ Therefore see ye, that it come not to you, that is before-said in the prophets,

³ Then they fasted, and prayed, and laid hands on them, and let them go.

⁴ But they were sent of the Holy Ghost (or And they were sent by the Holy Spirit), and went forth to Seleucia, and from thence they went by boat to Cyprus.

⁵ And when they came to Salamis, they preached the word of God in the synagogues of (the) Jews; and they had also John in ministry or in service.

⁶ And when they had walked by all the isle to Paphos, they found a man, a witch, or they found some man witch, a false prophet, a Jew, to whom the name was Barjesus, (who was also called Elymas),

⁷ that was with the proconsul Sergius Paulus, a prudent man. This (man) called Barnabas and Paul, and desired to hear the word of God.

⁸ But (this) Elymas the witch withstood them; for his name is expounded so or (it) is interpreted so; and he sought to turn away the proconsul from belief.

⁹ But Saul, which is said also Paul, was filled with the Holy Ghost, and beheld into him, (But Saul, who (is) also (called) Paul, was filled with the Holy Spirit, and looked at him,)

¹⁰ and said, A! thou full of all guile, and all falseness, thou son of the devil, thou enemy of all rightwiseness, thou leavest not (off) to turn upside-down, or to subvert, or to destroy, the rightful ways of the Lord.

¹¹ And now lo! the hand of the Lord is on thee, and thou shalt be blind, and not seeing the sun into a time. And anon, (or at once), a mist and darkness felled down on him; and he went about, and sought him that should give the hand to him.

¹² Then the proconsul, when he had seen the deed, believed, wondering on the teaching of the Lord.

¹³ And when from Paphos Paul had gone by boat, and they that were with him, they came to Perga of Pamphylia; but John departed from them, and turned again to Jerusalem (or and returned to Jerusalem).

¹⁴ And they went from Perga, and came to Antioch of Pisidia; and they entered into the synagogue in the day of sabbaths, and sat, (or and they entered into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and sat down).

¹⁵ And after the reading of the law and of the prophets, the princes of the synagogue sent to them (or the leaders of the synagogue sent word to them), and said, Brethren, if any word of exhortation to the people is in you, say ye.

¹⁶ And Paul rose, and with hand bade silence, and said, Men of Israel, and ye that dread God, hear ye. (And Paul rose up, and with his hand ordered silence, and said, Israelites, and ye who have fearful reverence for God, listen to me.)

¹⁷ God of the people of Israel chose our fathers, and enhanced the people, when they were comelings in the land of Egypt, and in an high arm he led them out of it; (God of the people of Israel chose our fathers, and raised up the people, when they were foreigners in the land of Egypt, and with an outstretched arm he led them out of it;)

¹⁸ and by the time of forty years he suffered their manners (or their ways) in (the) desert.

¹⁹ And he destroyed seven folks in the land of Canaan, and by sort parted to them their land, (And he destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, and by lot, or for an inheritance, divided up their land to them,)

²⁰ as after four hundred and fifty years. And after these things he gave doomsmen (or judges), till to Samuel, the prophet.

²¹ And from that time they asked (for) a king, and God gave to them Saul, the son of Cis, a man of the lineage of Benjamin, by forty years. (And at that time they asked for a king, and God gave them Saul, the son of Cis, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years.)

²² And when he was done away, he raised to them David the king, to whom he bare witnessing (or of whom he testified), and said, I have found David, the son of Jesse, a man after mine (own) heart, which (or who) shall do all my will.

²³ Of whose seed by the promise God hath led out to Israel a Saviour Jesus,

²⁴ when John preached before the face of his coming the baptism of penance (or the baptism of repentance) to all the people of Israel.

²⁵ But when John ful filled his course, he said, I am not he, whom ye deem me to be (or whom ye judge me to be); but lo! he (that) cometh after me, and I am not worthy to do off or to unbind the shoes of his feet.

²⁶ Brethren, and sons of the kind of Abraham, and which that in you dread God, to you the word of this health is sent. (Brothers, and sons of the kindred of Abraham, and those of you who have fearful reverence for God, to you the message of this salvation is sent.)

²⁷ For they that dwell at Jerusalem, and (the) princes of it, (or For they who live in Jerusalem, and their leaders), that knew not this Jesus, and the voices of (the) prophets, that by every sabbath be read, deemed, and fulfilled;

²⁸ and they found in him no cause (worthy) of death, and (yet) asked of Pilate, that they should slay him. (and they found in him no crime worthy of death, but yet they asked of Pilate, that he should be killed, or executed.)

²⁹ And when they had ended all things that were written of him, they took him down off the tree, and laid him in a grave (or and laid him in a tomb).

³⁰ And God raised him from death in the third day; Forsooth God raised him from (the) dead the third day;

³¹ which was seen by many days to them that went up together with him from Galilee into Jerusalem, which be till now his witnesses to the people. (who was seen for many days by those who went up together with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who up to the present be his witnesses to the people.)

³² And we show to you the promise that was made to our fathers;

³³ for God hath fulfilled this to their sons, and again-raised Jesus (or and raised up Jesus); as in the second psalm it is written, Thou art my Son, today I begat thee.

³⁴ And he that again-raised him from death or Forsooth that he again-raised him from (the) dead, that he should not turn again into corruption, said thus, For I shall give to you the holy true things of David. (And he who raised him from the dead, so that he would never return to corruption, or to death and destruction, said thus, I shall give you the holy and true blessings which I promised to David.)

³⁵ Therefore and in another stead he saith, Thou shalt not give thine holy (One) to see corruption. (And so in another place he saith, Thou shalt not allow thine Holy One to experience death and destruction, that is, to rot in the grave.)

³⁶ But David in his generation, when he had ministered to the will of God (or when he had served the will of God), died or slept, and was laid with his fathers, and saw corruption;

³⁷ but he whom God raised from death or soothly he whom God raised from (the) dead, saw not corruption (or did not suffer corruption, or rot in the grave).

³⁸ Therefore, brethren, be it known to you, that by him remission of sins is told to you, (And so brothers, let it be known to you, that through him forgiveness of sins is now told to you,)

³⁹ from all sins, of which ye might not be justified in the law of Moses (or under the Law of Moses). In this each man that believeth, is justified.

⁴⁰ Therefore see ye, that it come not to you, that is before-said in the prophets,

² and in their ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, 'Separate ye to me both Barnabas and Saul to the work to which I have called them,'

³ then having fasted, and having prayed, and having laid the hands on them, they sent them away.

⁴ These, indeed, then, having been sent forth by the Holy Spirit, went down to Seleucia, thence also they sailed to Cyprus,

⁵ and having come unto Salamis, they declared the word of God in the synagogues of the Jews, and they had also John as a ministrant;

⁶ and having gone through the island unto Paphos, they found a certain magian, a false prophet, a Jew, whose name is Bar-Jesus;

⁷ who was with the proconsul Sergius Paulus, an intelligent man; this one having called for Barnabas and Saul, did desire to hear the word of God,

⁸ and there withstood them Elymas the magian — for so is his name interpreted — seeking to pervert the proconsul from the faith.

⁹ And Saul — who also is Paul — having been filled with the Holy Spirit, and having looked stedfastly on him,

¹⁰ said, 'O full of all guile, and all profligacy, son of a devil, enemy of all righteousness, wilt thou not cease perverting the right ways of the Lord?

¹¹ and now, lo, a hand of the Lord is upon thee, and thou shalt be blind, not seeing the sun for a season;' and presently there fell upon him a mist and darkness, and he, going about, was seeking some to lead him by the hand;

¹² then the proconsul having seen what hath come to pass, did believe, being astonished at the teaching of the Lord.

¹³ And those about Paul having set sail from Paphos, came to Perga of Pamphylia, and John having departed from them, did turn back to Jerusalem,

¹⁴ and they having gone through from Perga, came to Antioch of Pisidia, and having gone into the synagogue on the sabbath-day, they sat down,

¹⁶ And Paul having risen, and having beckoned with the hand, said, 'Men, Israelites, and those fearing God, hearken:

¹⁷ the God of this people Israel did choose our fathers, and the people He did exalt in their sojourning in the land of Egypt, and with an high arm did He bring them out of it;

¹⁸ and about a period of forty years He did suffer their manners in the wilderness,

¹⁹ and having destroyed seven nations in the land of Canaan, He did divide by lot to them their land.

²⁰ 'And after these things, about four hundred and fifty years, He gave judges — till Samuel the prophet;

²¹ and thereafter they asked for a king, and God did give to them Saul, son of Kish, a man of the tribe of Benjamin, for forty years;

²² and having removed him, He did raise up to them David for king, to whom also having testified, he said, I found David, the son of Jesse, a man according to My heart, who shall do all My will.

²³ 'Of this one's seed God, according to promise, did raise to Israel a Saviour — Jesus,

²⁴ John having first preached, before his coming, a baptism of reformation to all the people of Israel;

²⁵ and as John was fulfilling the course, he said, Whom me do ye suppose to be? I am not he, but, lo, he doth come after me, of whom I am not worthy to loose the sandal of his feet.

²⁶ 'Men, brethren, sons of the race of Abraham, and those among you fearing God, to you was the word of this salvation sent,

²⁷ for those dwelling in Jerusalem, and their chiefs, this one not having known, also the voices of the prophets, which every sabbath are being read — having judged him — did fulfil,

²⁸ and no cause of death having found, they did ask of Pilate that he should be slain,

²⁹ and when they did complete all the things written about him, having taken him down from the tree, they laid him in a tomb;

³⁰ and God did raise him out of the dead,

³¹ and he was seen for many days of those who did come up with him from Galilee to Jerusalem, who are his witnesses unto the people.

³² 'And we to you do proclaim good news — that the promise made unto the fathers,

³³ God hath in full completed this to us their children, having raised up Jesus, as also in the second Psalm it hath been written, My Son thou art — I to-day have begotten thee.

³⁴ 'And that He did raise him up out of the dead, no more to return to corruption, he hath said thus — I will give to you the faithful kindnesses of David;

³⁵ wherefore also in another place he saith, Thou shalt not give Thy kind One to see corruption,

³⁶ for David, indeed, his own generation having served by the will of God, did fall asleep, and was added unto his fathers, and saw corruption,

³⁷ but he whom God did raise up, did not see corruption.

³⁸ 'Let it therefore be known to you, men, brethren, that through this one to you is the forgiveness of sins declared,

³⁹ and from all things from which ye were not able in the law of Moses to be declared righteous, in this one every one who is believing is declared righteous;

⁴⁰ see, therefore, it may not come upon you that hath been spoken in the prophets:
