John 5:3-14 in English

³ In these lay a multitude of them that were sick, blind, halt, withered.

⁵ And a certain man was there, who had been thirty and eight years in his infirmity.

⁶ When Jesus saw him lying, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case, he saith unto him, Wouldest thou be made whole?

⁷ The sick man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

⁸ Jesus saith unto him, Arise, take up thy bed, and walk.

⁹ And straightway the man was made whole, and took up his bed and walked. Now it was the sabbath on that day.

¹⁰ So the Jews said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath, and it is not lawful for thee to take up thy bed.

¹¹ But he answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

¹² They asked him, Who is the man that said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?

¹³ But he that was healed knew not who it was; for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in the place.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing befall thee.

³ In these lay a great multitude of sick people, blind, lame, or paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water,

⁴ for an angel went down from time to time into the pool and stirred up the water. Whoever stepped in first, after the stirring of the water, was made well of whatever disease that person had.

⁵ A certain man was there who had an infirmity thirty-eight years.

⁶ When Jesus saw him lying there, and knew that he had already been sick for a long time, He asked him, “Do you want to be made well?”

⁷ The sick man answered, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I’m coming, another steps down before me.”

⁸ Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk.”

⁹ Immediately, the man was made well, took up his mat, and walked. That was on the Sabbath day.

¹⁰ Therefore the Jews were telling him who was cured, “It’s the Sabbath, and it isn’t legal for you to carry your mat.”

¹¹ He answered them, “He who made me well told me, ‘Take up your mat and walk.’”

¹² Then they asked him, “Who told you to ‘Take up your mat and walk’?”

¹³ The man who had been healed didn’t know who it was, because Jesus had disappeared into the crowd.

¹⁴ Later, Jesus found him in the temple and told him, “See, you have been made well! Don’t sin any more, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

³ In these lay a great multitude of impotent folk, of blind, halt, withered, waiting for the moving of the water.

⁴ For an angel went down at a certain season into the pool, and troubled the water: whosoever then first after the troubling of the water stepped in was made whole of whatsoever disease he had.

⁵ And a certain man was there, which had an infirmity thirty and eight years.

¹⁰ The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

¹¹ He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

¹² Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?

¹³ And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

³ Many people were lying there. They were people who were blind, lame, or paralyzed.

⁵ One of those who was there had been paralyzed for thirty-eight years.

⁶ Jesus saw him lying there and found out that the man had been like that for a long time. He said to the man, “Do you want to become well?”

⁷ The paralyzed man replied to him, “ Yes, sir, I want to get well, but there is no one to help me get down into the pool when the water is stirred {stirs}. While I am trying to get to the pool, someone else always gets there before me.”

⁸ Jesus said to him, “Get up! Then pick up your mat and walk!”

⁹ The man immediately was healed. He picked up his mat and started walking! The day on which this happened was a Jewish day of rest.

¹⁰ So the Jewish leaders said to the man who had been healed, “Today is ◄the Sabbath/our rest day►, and in our Jewish laws it is written that people should not work on our ◄ Sabbath/rest day►, so you should not be carrying your mat!”

¹¹ The man replied to them, “The man who healed me, he himself said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk!’”

¹² They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick it up and walk!’?”

¹³ But since Jesus had disappeared in the crowd without telling the man his name, the man did not know who it was who had healed him.

¹⁴ Later, Jesus found the man in the Temple courtyard. He told the man his name, and said to him, “Listen! You are healed! So stop sinning! If you do not stop sinning, something will happen to you that will be worse than the illness you had before!”

³ In these doorways there were a great number of people with different diseases: some unable to see, some without the power of walking, some with wasted bodies.

⁵ One man was there who had been ill for thirty-eight years.

⁶ When Jesus saw him there on the floor it was clear to him that he had been now a long time in that condition, and so he said to the man, Is it your desire to get well?

⁷ The ill man said in answer, Sir, I have nobody to put me into the bath when the water is moving; and while I am on the way down some other person gets in before me.

⁸ Jesus said to him, Get up, take your bed and go.

⁹ And the man became well straight away, and took up his bed and went. Now that day was the Sabbath.

¹⁰ So the Jews said to the man who had been made well, It is the Sabbath; and it is against the law for you to take up your bed.

¹¹ He said to them, But he who made me well, said to me, Take up your bed and go.

¹² Then they put to him the question: Who is the man who said to you, Take it up and go?

¹³ Now he who had been made well had no knowledge who it was, Jesus having gone away because of the number of people who were in that place.

¹⁴ After a time Jesus came across him in the Temple and said to him, See, you are well and strong; do no more sin for fear a worse thing comes to you.

³ In these lay a multitude of sick, blind, lame, withered, awaiting the moving of the water.

⁴ For an angel descended at a certain season in the pool and troubled the water. Whoever therefore first went in after the troubling of the water became well, whatever disease he laboured under.

⁵ But there was a certain man there who had been suffering under his infirmity thirty and eight years.

⁶ Jesus seeing this man lying there, and knowing that he was in that state now a great length of time, says to him, Wouldest thou become well?

⁷ The infirm man answered him, Sir, I have not a man, in order, when the water has been troubled, to cast me into the pool; but while I am coming another descends before me.

⁸ Jesus says to him, Arise, take up thy couch and walk.

⁹ And immediately the man became well, and took up his couch and walked: and on that day was sabbath.

¹⁰ The Jews therefore said to the healed man, It is sabbath, it is not permitted thee to take up thy couch.

¹¹ He answered them, He that made me well, he said to me, Take up thy couch and walk.

¹² They asked him therefore, Who is the man who said to thee, Take up thy couch and walk?

¹³ But he that had been healed knew not who it was, for Jesus had slidden away, there being a crowd in the place.

¹⁴ After these things Jesus finds him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art become well: sin no more, that something worse do not happen to thee.

³ In these lay a great multitude of sick, of blind, of lame, of withered; waiting for the moving of the water.

⁴ And an angel of the Lord descended at certain times into the pond; and the water was moved. And he that went down first into the pond after the motion of the water, was made whole, of whatsoever infirmity he lay under.

⁵ And there was a certain man there, that had been eight and thirty years under his infirmity.

⁶ Him when Jesus had seen lying, and knew that he had been now a long time, he saith to him: Wilt thou be made whole?

⁷ The infirm man answered him: Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pond. For whilst I am coming, another goeth down before me.

⁸ Jesus saith to him: Arise, take up thy bed, and walk.

⁹ And immediately the man was made whole: and he took up his bed, and walked. And it was the sabbath that day.

¹⁰ The Jews therefore said to him that was healed: It is the sabbath; it is not lawful for thee to take up thy bed.

³ In these porches were lying a great multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water.

⁴ For an angel from time to time descended into the pool and stirred up the water; therefore the first one having gone in after the stirring up of the water, became well of whatever disease he was suffering from.

⁵ Now there was a certain man there who had an ailment for thirty-eight years.

⁶ When Jesus saw this man lying there, and knew that he already had been in that condition a long time, He said to him, “Do you wish to become well?”

⁷ The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I do not have a man, so that whenever the water is stirred up, he may put me into the pool; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

¹⁴ After these things Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, “Behold, you have become well. Sin no more, lest something worse happens to you.”

³ In them a large number of sick people were lying—blind, lame, paralyzed—waiting for the moving of the water;

⁴ because an angel would go down from time to time into the pool and stir up the water—then the first one to get in after the stirring of the water became well of whatever disease that was holding him.

⁵ Now there was a certain man there who had been sick for 38 years.

⁶ Seeing this man lying there and knowing that he had already been sick a long time, Jesus says to him, “Do you want to get well?”

⁷ The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to throw me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I am coming another gets in before me.”

⁸ Jesus says to him, “Get up, pick up your pallet and walk!”

⁹ Immediately the man became well and picked up his pallet and started to walk!

¹⁰ But that day was a Sabbath, so the Jews said to the one who had been healed: “It's the Sabbath! You aren't allowed to carry the pallet.”

¹¹ He answered them: “The one who made me well—He said to me, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk.’ ”

¹² So they asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk’?”

¹³ But the man who was cured did not know who it was, because Jesus had disappeared, there being a crowd in the place.

¹⁴ After these things Jesus found him in the temple and said to him: “See, you are well. Don't sin any more, so that something worse doesn't happen to you.”

³ Crowds of sick people were lying in these porches—those who were blind, lame, or paralyzed.

⁵ One man who was there had been sick for thirty-eight years. Jesus looked at him, knowing he had been lying there for long time, and asked him,

⁶ “Do you want to be healed?”

⁷ “Sir,” the sick man answered, “I don't have anyone to help me get into the pool when the water is stirred. While I'm trying to get there, someone always gets in before me.”

⁸ “Stand up, pick up your mat, and start walking!” Jesus told him.

⁹ Immediately the man was healed. He picked up his mat and started walking. Now the day that this happened was the Sabbath.

¹⁰ So the Jews said to the man who'd been healed, “This is the Sabbath! It's against the law to carry a mat!”

¹¹ “The man who healed me told me to pick up my mat and start walking,” he replied.

¹² “Who's this person who told you to carry your mat and walk?” they asked.

¹³ However, the man who'd been healed didn't know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the surrounding crowd.

¹⁴ Later on Jesus found the man in the Temple, and told him, “Look, now you've been healed. So stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.”

⁸ Iesus said vnto him, Rise: take vp thy bed, and walke.

⁹ And immediatly the man was made whole, and tooke vp his bed, and walked: and the same day was the Sabbath.

¹⁰ The Iewes therefore said to him that was made whole, It is the Sabbath day: it is not lawfull for thee to cary thy bed.

¹¹ He answered them, He that made me whole, he said vnto me, Take vp thy bed, and walke.

¹² Then asked they him, What man is that which said vnto thee, Take vp thy bed and walke?

¹³ And he that was healed, knewe not who it was: for Iesus had conueied himselfe away from the multitude that was in that place.

¹⁴ And after that, Iesus founde him in the Temple, and said vnto him, Beholde, thou art made whole: sinne no more, lest a worse thing come vnto thee.

⁷ “I have no one, Sir,” the sick man answered, “to put me into the bath when there is a troubling of the water, and, while I am getting to it, someone else steps down before me.”

⁸ “Stand up,” said Jesus, “take up your mat, and walk.”

⁹ The man was cured immediately, and took up his mat and began walking.

¹⁰ Now it was the Sabbath. So the religious authorities said to the man who had been cured, “This is the Sabbath; you must not carry your mat.”

¹¹ “The man who cured me,” he answered, “said to me ‘Take up your mat and walk.’”

¹² “Who was it,” they asked, “that said to you ‘Take up your mat and walk’?”

¹³ But the man who had been restored did not know who it was; for Jesus had moved away, because there was a crowd there.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus found the man in the Temple Courts, and said to him, “You are cured now; do not sin again, or something worse may happen to you.”

¹¹ He answered them, “He who made me well, the same said to me, ‘Take up your mat, and walk.’”

¹² Then they asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your mat, and walk’?”

¹³ But he who was healed didn’t know who it was, for Yeshua Salvation had withdrawn, a crowd being in the place.

¹⁴ Afterward Yeshua Salvation found him in the temple, and said to him, “Behold, you are made well. Sin no more, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

⁴ For an angell wet doune at a certayne ceason into the pole and troubled the water. Whosoever then fyrst after the steringe of the water stepped in was made whoale of what soever disease he had.

⁵ And a certayne man was theare which had bene diseased .xxxviii. yeares.

⁶ When Iesus sawe him lye and knewe that he now longe tyme had bene diseased he sayde vnto him. Wilt thou be made whoale?

⁷ The sicke answered him: Syr I have no man when the water is troubled to put me into the pole. But in the meane tyme whill I am about to come another steppeth doune before me.

⁸ And Iesus sayde vnto him: ryse take vp thy beed and walke.

⁹ And immediatly the man was made whole and toke vp his beed and went. And the same daye was the Saboth daye.

¹⁰ The Iewes therfore sayde vnto him that was made whole. It is the Saboth daye it is not laufull for the to cary thy beed.

¹¹ He answered them: he that made me whole sayde vnto me: take vp thy beed and get the hence.

¹² Then axed they him: what man is that which sayde vnto the take vp thy beed and walke.

¹³ And he that was healed wist not who it was. For Iesus had gotte him selfe awaye be cause that ther was preace of people in the place.

¹⁴ And after that Iesus founde him in the temple and sayd vnto him: beholde thou arte made whole synne no moore lest a worsse thinge happen vnto the.

³ A large number of people who were sick, blind, lame, or paralyzed were lying there.

⁵ A certain man was there who had been sick for thirty-eight years.

⁶ When Jesus saw him lying there, and after he realized that he had been there a long time, he said to him, “Do you want to be healthy?”

⁷ The sick man replied, “Sir, I do not have anyone to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up. When I come, another steps down before me.”

⁸ Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.”

⁹ Immediately the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. Now that day was a Sabbath.

¹⁰ So the Jews said to him who was healed, “It is the Sabbath and you are not permitted to carry your mat.”

¹¹ He replied, “He who made me healthy said to me, 'Pick up your mat and walk.'”

¹² They asked him, “Who is the man that said to you, 'Pick it up and walk'?”

¹³ However, the one who was healed did not know who it was because Jesus had gone away secretly, for there was a crowd in the place.

¹⁴ Afterward, Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “See, you have become healthy! Do not sin anymore, so that something worse will not happen to you.”

³ In these lay a great multitude of those who were sick, blind, lame, or paralyzed, waiting for the moving of the water;

⁴ for an angel went down at certain times into the pool and stirred up the water. Whoever stepped in first after the stirring of the water was healed of whatever disease he had.

⁶ When Jesus saw him lying, and knew that he had been now a long time in that case , he saith to him, Wilt thou be healed?

⁷ The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is agitated, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

⁶ And when Jesus had seen him lying, and had known, that he had much time, he saith to him, Wilt thou be made whole?

⁴ For the angel of the Lord came down (at) certain times into the standing water (or into the pool), and the water was moved; and he that first came down into the cistern, after the moving of the water, was made whole (or was healed) of whatever sickness he was held (by).

³ In these lay a greet multitude of sike men, blynde, crokid, and drie, abidynge the mouyng of the watir.

⁴ For the aungel `of the Lord cam doun certeyne tymes in to the watir, and the watir was moued; and he that first cam doun in to the sisterne, aftir the mouynge of the watir, was maad hool of what euer sijknesse he was holdun.

⁵ And a man was there, hauynge eiyte and thritti yeer in his sikenesse.

⁶ And whanne Jhesus hadde seyn hym liggynge, and hadde knowun, that he hadde myche tyme, he seith to hym, Wolt thou be maad hool?

⁷ The sijk man answerde to hym, Lord, Y haue no man, that whanne the watir is moued, to putte me `in to the cisterne; for the while Y come, anothir goith doun bifor me.

⁸ Jhesus seith to hym, Rise vp, take thi bed, and go.

⁹ And anoon the man was maad hool, and took vp his bed, and wente forth. And it was sabat in that dai.

¹⁰ Therfor the Jewis seiden to him that was maad hool, It is sabat, it is not leueful to thee, to take awei thi bed.

¹¹ He answeride to hem, He that made me hool, seide to me, Take thi bed, and go.

¹³ But he that was maad hool, wiste not who it was. And Jhesus bowide awei fro the puple, that was set in the place.

¹⁴ Aftirward Jhesus foond hym in the temple, and seide to hym, Lo! thou art maad hool; now nyle thou do synne, lest any worse thing bifalle to thee.

³ in these were lying a great multitude of the ailing, blind, lame, withered, waiting for the moving of the water,

⁴ for a messenger at a set time was going down in the pool, and was troubling the water, the first then having gone in after the troubling of the water, became whole of whatever sickness he was held.

⁵ and there was a certain man there being in ailment thirty and eight years,

⁶ him Jesus having seen lying, and having known that he is already a long time, he saith to him, 'Dost thou wish to become whole?'

⁷ The ailing man answered him, 'Sir, I have no man, that, when the water may be troubled, he may put me into the pool, and while I am coming, another doth go down before me.'

⁸ Jesus saith to him, 'Rise, take up thy couch, and be walking;'

⁹ and immediately the man became whole, and he took up his couch, and was walking, and it was a sabbath on that day,

¹⁰ the Jews then said to him that hath been healed, 'It is a sabbath; it is not lawful to thee to take up the couch.'

¹¹ He answered them, 'He who made me whole — that one said to me, Take up thy couch, and be walking;'

¹² they questioned him, then, 'Who is the man who is saying to thee, Take up thy couch and be walking?'

¹³ But he that was healed had not known who he is, for Jesus did move away, a multitude being in the place.

¹⁴ After these things, Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, 'Lo, thou hast become whole; sin no more, lest something worse may happen to thee.'
