Romans 8:5-25 in American Standard Version (1901)

5 For they that are after the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace:
7 because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be:
8 and they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. But if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall give life also to your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 So then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh:
13 for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die; but if by the Spirit ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
15 For ye received not the spirit of bondage again unto fear; but ye received the spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit himself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are children of God:
17 and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed to us-ward.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creation waiteth for the revealing of the sons of God.
20 For the creation was subjected to vanity, not of its own will, but by reason of him who subjected it, in hope
21 that the creation itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.
23 And not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for our adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.
24 For in hope were we saved: but hope that is seen is not hope: for who hopeth for that which he seeth?
25 But if we hope for that which we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
Romans 8 in American Standard Version (1901)

Romans 8:5-25 in King James (Authorized) Version

5 For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.

18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now.

24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25 But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.

Romans 8:5-25 in Translation for Translators

5 People who live according to what their self-directed nature desires think about and are concerned about what their self-directed nature desires. But people who live according to what God's Spirit desires think about and are concerned about what God's Spirit desires.
6 Those people who PRS think about and are concerned about what their self-directed nature desires will not live eternally (OR, will be separated from God). But those people who think about and are concerned about what God's Spirit desires will live eternally and have inner peace.
7 Let me explain this. To the extent that people PRS think about and are concerned about what their self-directed nature desires, they are acting contrary to God. They do not obey the laws of God. In fact, they are not even able to obey his laws.
8 The people who let their self-directed nature control them cannot do what pleases God.
9 But we do not have to let our self-directed nature control us. Instead, we can let God's Spirit control us, because he lives within us. If people do not have living in them the Spirit who comes from Christ, they do not belong to Christ.
10 But since Christ is living in you/us by his Spirit, although your/our bodies are certain to die because you/we sin, your/our spirits are alive because God has erased the record of your/our sins.
11 God caused Jesus to live again after he died. And because his Spirit lives in you/us, God will also make your/our bodies, which now are sure to die, live again after you/we die. God, who caused Christ to live again after he died, will make you/us live again by causing his Spirit, who lives within you/us, to do it.
12 Therefore, my fellow believers, we must live as the Spirit directs us. What we do not have to do is to live as our self-directed nature guides us.
13 If you live the way your self-directed nature directs, you will surely not live eternally (OR, will surely be eternally separated from God). But if by the power of God's Spirit you quit doing the sinful things that your bodies desire MET, you will live eternally.
14 We who are guided by the Spirit of God {allow the Spirit of God to guide us} are God's children.
15 You have showed that this is true, because you received from God a Spirit that is not one that makes you fear God again. You are not like slaves who fear their masters MET. On the contrary, we have received a Spirit by whose work in our hearts God has adopted us. The Spirit now enables us to cry out to God, “ You(sg) are my Father DOU!”
16 The Spirit himself confirms what our spirits say, that we are God's children.
17 Because we are God's children, we also will some day receive/inherit eternal blessings/privileges. We will receive/inherit them from God, and we will also receive/inherit them just like Christ has inherited them. But we must suffer for doing good as Christ did, in order to receive splendor as he did.
18 I consider that what we suffer during the present time is not worth paying attention to, because the future splendor/glory that will be revealed {that God will reveal} to us is so great.
19 The things that God has created are very eagerly waiting for the time PRS, DOU when God will reveal who his true children are.
20 God caused the things that he created to be unable to achieve what he had purposed. That was not because they wanted to be unable to do that. On the contrary, God made them that way because he wanted them to keep confidently expecting
21 that the things that he created will be freed {that he will free the things that he created} from their sure decay MET. He will free them in order that he can give them the same glory that belongs to his children.
22 We know that until now it is as though all things that God created have been groaning together, and they long for that glory, just like a mother having the pains before bearing a child groans and longs for her baby's birth MET.
23 Not only do those things groan, but we ourselves also groan inwardly. We who have God's Spirit, who is like a partial gift MET we have received as we wait for the future glory, groan inwardly. We groan while we wait eagerly for the time when we will receive our full rights as God's adopted children. That will include his freeing our bodies from the things that hinder us on earth. He will do this by giving us new bodies.
24 Ever since we were saved {since God saved us}, we have continued to confidently expect that future glory. If we had what we waited for, we would not need to wait for it any longer, because those who have something, certainly do not continue to wait for it! RHQ
25 But because we keep waiting expectantly to receive what we do not yet have, we wait for it eagerly and patiently/perseveringly.

Romans 8:5-25 in Bible in Basic English

5 For those who are living in the way of the flesh give their minds to the things of the flesh, but those who go in the way of the Spirit, to the things of the Spirit.
6 For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace:
7 Because the mind of the flesh is opposite to God; it is not under the law of God, and is not able to be:
8 So that those who are in the flesh are not able to give pleasure to God.
9 You are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God is in you. But if any man has not the Spirit of Christ he is not one of his.
10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him who made Jesus come again from the dead is in you, he who made Christ Jesus come again from the dead will in the same way, through his Spirit which is in you, give life to your bodies which now are under the power of death.
12 So then, my brothers, we are in debt, not to the flesh to be living in the way of the flesh:
13 For if you go in the way of the flesh, death will come on you; but if by the Spirit you put to death the works of the body, you will have life.
14 And all those who are guided by the Spirit of God are sons of God.
15 For you did not get the spirit of servants again to put you in fear, but the spirit of sons was given to you, by which we say, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit is witness with our spirit that we are children of God:
17 And if we are children, we have a right to a part in the heritage; a part in the things of God, together with Christ; so that if we have a part in his pain, we will in the same way have a part in his glory.
18 I am of the opinion that there is no comparison between the pain of this present time and the glory which we will see in the future.
19 For the strong desire of every living thing is waiting for the revelation of the sons of God.
20 For every living thing was put under the power of change, not by its desire, but by him who made it so, in hope
21 That all living things will be made free from the power of death and will have a part with the free children of God in glory.
22 For we are conscious that all living things are weeping and sorrowing in pain together till now.
23 And not only so, but we who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we have sorrow in our minds, waiting for the time when we will take our place as sons, that is, the salvation of our bodies.
24 For our salvation is by hope: but hope which is seen is not hope: for who is hoping for what he sees?
25 But if we have hope for that which we see not, then we will be able to go on waiting for it.
Romans 8 in Bible in Basic English

Romans 8:5-25 in Darby Translation

5 For they that are according to flesh mind the things of the flesh; and they that are according to Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
6 For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the Spirit life and peace.
7 Because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God; for neither indeed can it be:
8 and they that are in flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in flesh but in Spirit, if indeed God's Spirit dwell in you; but if any one has not the Spirit of Christ he is not of him:
10 but if Christ be in you, the body is dead on account of sin, but the Spirit life on account of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that has raised up Jesus from among the dead dwell in you, he that has raised up Christ from among the dead shall quicken your mortal bodies also on account of his Spirit which dwells in you.
12 So then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to flesh;
13 for if ye live according to flesh, ye are about to die; but if, by the Spirit, ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live:
14 for as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
15 For ye have not received a spirit of bondage again for fear, but ye have received a spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself bears witness with our spirit, that we are children of God.
17 And if children, heirs also: heirs of God, and Christ's joint heirs; if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the coming glory to be revealed to us.
19 For the anxious looking out of the creature expects the revelation of the sons of God:
20 for the creature has been made subject to vanity, not of its will, but by reason of him who has subjected the same, in hope
21 that the creature itself also shall be set free from the bondage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groans together and travails in pain together until now.
23 And not only that, but even we ourselves, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, we also ourselves groan in ourselves, awaiting adoption, that is the redemption of our body.
24 For we have been saved in hope; but hope seen is not hope; for what any one sees, why does he also hope?
25 But if what we see not we hope, we expect in patience.

Romans 8:5-25 in Douay-Rheims 1899

5 For they that are according to the flesh, mind the things that are of the flesh; but they that are according to the spirit, mind the things that are of the spirit.
6 For the wisdom of the flesh is death; but the wisdom of the spirit is life and peace.
7 Because the wisdom of the flesh is an enemy to God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither can it be.
8 And they who are in the flesh, cannot please God.
9 But you are not in the flesh, but in the spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
10 And if Christ be in you, the body indeed is dead, because of sin; but the spirit liveth, because of justification.
11 And if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead, dwell in you; he that raised up Jesus Christ from the dead, shall quicken also your mortal bodies, because of his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
13 For if you live according to the flesh, you shall die: but if by the Spirit you mortify the deeds of the flesh, you shall live.
14 For whosoever are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For you have not received the spirit of bondage again in fear; but you have received the spirit of adoption of sons, whereby we cry: Abba (Father).
16 For the Spirit himself giveth testimony to our spirit, that we are the sons of God.
17 And if sons, heirs also; heirs indeed of God, and joint heirs with Christ: yet so, if we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified with him.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of this time are not worthy to be compared with the glory to come, that shall be revealed in us.
19 For the expectation of the creature waiteth for the revelation of the sons of God.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him that made it subject, in hope:
21 Because the creature also itself shall be delivered from the servitude of corruption, into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.
22 For we know that every creature groaneth and travaileth in pain, even till now.
23 And not only it, but ourselves also, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption of the sons of God, the redemption of our body.
24 For we are saved by hope. But hope that is seen, is not hope. For what a man seeth, why doth he hope for?

7 Because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not submit to the law of God, nor indeed can it.

20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but on account of Him who subjected it in hope;
21 because even the creation itself shall be freed from the slavery of corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God.
22 For we know that all the creation groans together and labors in birth together until now.
23 And not only that, but also we ourselves having the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting adoption, the redemption of our body.
24 For by this hope we were saved, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he already sees?
25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly await it with endurance.

Romans 8:5-25 in The New Testament with Commentary

5 Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
6 Further, the mindset of the flesh yields death, but the mindset of the Spirit yields life and peace;
7 because the mindset of the flesh represents enmity against God, since it does not submit to God's law, nor indeed can it.
8 So, those who are ‘in flesh’ cannot please God.
9 You, however, are not ‘in flesh’ but ‘in Spirit’, if indeed God's Spirit dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.
10 But if Christ is in you, the body is dead through sin, but the Spirit is life through righteousness.
11 And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, then He who raised the Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who dwells in you.
12 So then, brothers, we have no obligation to the flesh, to live according to it;
13 because if you live according to the flesh, you are about to die; but if you put to death the practices of the body, by the Spirit, you will live.
14 Because as many as are led by God's Spirit, these are God's sons
15 —you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fear all over again, but you did receive the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father!”
16 That Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are God's children
17 —if children, also heirs: heirs of God and coheirs with Christ (if indeed we suffer with Him so that we may also be glorified with Him).
18 I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is going to be revealed in us.
19 You see, the creation waits with eager anticipation for the revelation of God's sons;
20 because without choice the creation was subjected to futility, due to the One who did the subjecting, based on the hope
21 that the creation itself will also be set free from the bondage to decay into the freedom of the glory of God's children.
22 Yes, we know that the whole creation has been groaning and in labor pains until now.
23 Not only that, we ourselves also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we groan within ourselves, eagerly awaiting adoption, the redemption of our body.
24 Yes, we were saved in the hope, but a hope that is seen is not hope—why would anyone hope for what he sees?
25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly await it with endurance.
Romans 8 in The New Testament with Commentary

Romans 8:5-25 in Free Bible Version

5 Those who follow their sinful nature are preoccupied with sinful things, but those who follow the Spirit concentrate on spiritual things.
6 The sinful human mind results in death, but having the mind led by the Spirit results in life and peace.
7 The sinful human mind is hostile to God because it refuses to obey the law of God—in fact it never can,
8 and those who follow their sinful nature can never please God.
9 But you're not following your sinful nature, but the Spirit—if it's true that the Spirit of God is living in you. For those that don't have the Spirit of Christ in them don't belong to him.
10 However, if Christ is in you, even though your body is going to die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you're now right with God.
11 The Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you. He who raised Jesus from the dead will also give life to your dead bodies through his Spirit that lives in you.
12 So brothers and sisters, we don't have to follow our sinful nature that operates according to our human desires.
13 For if you live under the control of your sinful nature, you're going to die. But if you follow the way of the Spirit, putting to death the evil things you do, then you will live.
14 All those who are led by the Spirit of God are God's children.
15 You were not given a spirit to enslave and terrify you once more. No, what you received was the spirit that makes you children in God's family. Now we can shout out, “God is our Father!”
16 The Spirit himself agrees with us that we're God's children.
17 If we're his children, then we're his heirs. We are heirs of God, and heirs together with Christ. But if we want to share in his glory we must share in his sufferings.
18 Yet I'm convinced that what we suffer in the present is nothing compared to the future glory that will be revealed to us.
19 All of creation is patiently waiting, longing for God to reveal his children.
20 For God allowed the purpose of creation to be frustrated.
21 But creation itself waits in hope for the time when it will be set free from the slavery of decay and share the glorious freedom of God's children.
22 We know that all creation groans with longing, suffering birth-pains even up till now.
23 Not only creation, but we too, who have a foretaste of the Spirit, we groan inwardly as we wait for God to “adopt” us—the redemption of our bodies.
24 For we were saved by hope. Yet hope that's already seen isn't hope at all. Who hopes for what they can already see?
25 Since we're hoping for what we haven't yet seen, we wait for it patiently.

5 For they that are after the flesh, sauour the things of the flesh: but they that are after the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
6 For the wisedome of the flesh is death: but the wisedome of the Spirit is life and peace,
7 Because the wisedome of the flesh is enimitie against God: for it is not subiect to the Lawe of God, neither in deede can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh, can not please God.
9 Now ye are not in the flesh, but in ye Spirit, because ye spirit of God dwelleth in you: but if any man hath not ye Spirit of Christ, ye same is not his.
10 And if Christ bee in you, the body is dead, because of sinne: but the Spirite is life for righteousnesse sake.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised vp Iesus from the dead, dwell in you, he that raised vp Christ from the dead, shall also quicken your mortall bodies, by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore brethren, wee are detters not to the flesh, to liue after the flesh:
13 For if ye liue after the flesh, ye shall die: but if yee mortifie the deedes of the body by the Spirit, ye shall liue.
14 For as many as are ledde by the Spirit of God, they are the sonnes of God.
15 For ye haue not receiued the Spirit of bodage, to feare againe: but ye haue receiued the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry Abba, Father.
16 The same Spirit beareth witnesse with our spirit, that we are the children of God.
17 If we be children, we are also heires, euen the heires of God, and heires annexed with Christ: if so be that we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.
18 For I count that the afflictions of this present time are not worthy of the glory, which shalbe shewed vnto vs.
19 For the feruent desire of the creature waiteth when the sonnes of God shalbe reueiled,
20 Because the creature is subiect to vanitie, not of it owne will, but by reason of him, which hath subdued it vnder hope,
21 Because the creature also shall be deliuered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious libertie of the sonnes of God.
22 For we knowe that euery creature groneth with vs also, and trauaileth in paine together vnto this present.
23 And not onely the creature, but we also which haue the first fruites of the Spirit, euen we doe sigh in our selues, waiting for the adoption, euen the redemption of our body.
24 For we are saued by hope: but hope that is seene, is not hope: for how can a man hope for that which he seeth?
25 But if we hope for that we see not, we doe with patience abide for it.

Romans 8:5-25 in Plain English Version

5 Some people just think about themselves so they only do whatever makes them feel good. They let that bad part inside them be their boss and they do whatever it tells them to do. But other people think about God and his spirit and they do whatever the Holy Spirit tells them to do.
6 If we let that bad part inside us be our boss and only do whatever makes us feel good, we will die. But if we do the things the Holy Spirit tells us, and let him control us, we will live happy, and calm and settled inside ourselves.
7 That bad part inside us fights against God, so if we do whatever it says we don’t do the things that God says. If we are like that we can never follow God’s laws. If we live like that we can never make God happy.
9 But I know that you aren’t like that any more. You haven’t let that bad part of you be your boss, but you have joined up with the Holy Spirit and now he lives inside you. That’s right. If people don’t have the spirit of Jesus Christ in them, they don’t belong to him.
10 But Jesus Christ does live inside you. Yes, you did bad things, so your bodies will die, but God says that you are all right now, so his spirit makes you alive.
11 Remember that Jesus died but God made him alive again. And God will do that for you too. Your bodies will die, but after that God will make them alive again. His spirit will do that. He lives inside you.
12 So, my friends, you don’t have to do bad things any more. You don’t have to do whatever that bad part of you tells you to do.
13 If you do those things, you will die. But if God’s spirit is in you he can help you block that bad part of you, like you kill it, and then you will not do those bad things, and you will live.
14 It is like this. God’s children are those people that listen to his spirit and follow him.
15 God didn’t give you his Holy Spirit to make you frightened of him. No, he gave you his spirit to make you his children. You are not like a prisoner that has to work for a cheeky boss, and that boss makes him frightened all the time. No way. You have God’s spirit in you, so you can talk to God and say, “Dad, you are my own good Father.”
16 And his spirit in us talks to our own spirits and he tells us, “That is right, we really are God’s children.”
17 We joined up with Jesus Christ, God’s son, so we are part of God’s family now and we will get our share of all the good things that God gives to his son. But it is also true that we will get a lot of the trouble, just like they gave trouble to Jesus. We will get our share of that trouble and we will get our share of good things.
18 But don’t worry about the trouble we get now. Later God will make everything so good for us that we will not even think about the trouble we get now.
19 It is like this, everything in the world is waiting for that time when God will set everything right and show everyone who his children really are.
20 Do you remember that story about Adam and Eve? They went wrong, and after that God let everything in the world get messed up. It was people that went wrong, not the other things in the world, but everything else went wrong anyway, from the things that the people did.
21 So now everything in the world is waiting for God to fix things up, so that nothing will go bad and rot away like it does now. And one day God will fix it all, and at the same time he will show everyone that we are his family.
22 We know that everything in the world now just dies and rots away. Everything has got that problem. Think about a woman, at the time she has a baby she gets trouble and has a lot of pain. Well that is a picture of the way everything in the world is now.
23 And we get trouble too. We are Christians and we have the Holy Spirit in us, but we still get trouble. God gave us that Holy Spirit to show us a little bit of the good that will come later. But right now we get pain and problems too. So we just wait for God to fix everything up and to really make us his family. Then he will give us new bodies, just like he promised us.
24 We are really sure that he will save us and fix everything up for us even though he hasn’t done it yet. But we know he will do it one day, so we just have to keep on waiting for it.

7 because the mind of the flesh is hostile towards God, for it is not subject to God’s law, neither indeed can it be.
8 Those who are in the flesh can’t please God.
9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is so that the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if any man doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.
10 If Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is alive because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him who raised up Jesus from the dead dwells in you, he who raised up Christ Jesus from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit who dwells in you.
12 So then, brothers, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are children of God.
15 For you didn’t receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God;
17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with him, that we may also be glorified with him.
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed towards us.
19 For the creation waits with eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed.
20 For the creation was subjected to vanity, not of its own will, but because of him who subjected it, in hope
21 that the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of decay into the liberty of the glory of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groans and travails in pain together until now.
23 Not only so, but ourselves also, who have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for adoption, the redemption of our body.
24 For we were saved in hope, but hope that is seen is not hope. For who hopes for that which he sees?
25 But if we hope for that which we don’t see, we wait for it with patience.

Romans 8:5-25 in Noah Webster Bible

5 For they that are according to the flesh, do mind the things of the flesh: but they that are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.
6 For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace:
7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8 So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9 But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. Now if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.
10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.
11 But if the Spirit of him that raised Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised Christ from the dead will also revive your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh.
13 For if ye live according to the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, by which we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself testifieth with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if we suffer with him , that we may be glorified together.
18 For I reckon, that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
19 For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation of the sons of God.
20 For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason of him who hath subjected the same in hope:
21 Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of corruption, into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
22 For we know that the whole creation groaneth, and travaileth in pain together until now:
23 And not only they , but ourselves also, who have the first-fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit , the redemption of our body.
24 For we are saved by hope: But hope that is seen, is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
25 But if we hope for what we see not, then with patience we wait for it .

5 For they that be after the flesh, understand or savour those things that be of the flesh; but they that be after the Spirit, feel those things that be of the Spirit.
6 For the prudence of flesh is death; but the prudence of Spirit is life and peace.
7 For the wisdom of the flesh is enemy to God; for it is not subject to the law of God, for neither it may be subject to the law.

15 For ye have not taken again the spirit of servage in dread, but ye have taken the Spirit of adoption of sons, that is, sons of God by grace, in which we cry, Abba, Father.
16 And that Spirit yieldeth witnessing to our spirit, that we be the sons of God;
17 if sons, and heirs, heirs forsooth of God, and heirs together with Christ; if nevertheless we suffer together, that also we be glorified together.
18 And I deem, that the passions of this time be not even worthy, to the glory to coming or to come, that shall be showed in us.
19 For the abiding of creature abideth the showing of the sons of God.
20 But the creature is subject to vanity, not willingly, but for him that made it subject in hope;
21 for that creature shall be delivered from servage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the sons of God.

23 And not only it, but also we us-selves, that have the first fruits of the Spirit, and we us-selves sorrow within us for the adoption of God’s sons, abiding the again-buying of our body.

25 And if we hope that thing that we see not, we abide by patience.

Romans 8:5-25 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling (Enhanced)

5 For they that be after the flesh, understand or savour those things that be of the flesh; but they that be after the Spirit, feel (or experience) those things that be of the Spirit.
6 For the prudence (or the wisdom) of (the) flesh is death; but the prudence (or the wisdom) of (the) Spirit is life and peace.
7 For the wisdom of the flesh is enemy to God; for it is not subject to the law of God, for neither it may be subject to the law, (or nor could it be subject to the law).
8 And they that be in (the) flesh, may not please to God. (And those who be in the flesh, cannot please God.)
9 But ye be not in (the) flesh, but in (the) Spirit; if nevertheless the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. But if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, this is not his.
10 For if Christ is in you, the body is dead for sin or the body is dead from sin, but the Spirit liveth for justifying. (For if the Messiah is in you, then though the body shall die because of sin, the Spirit shall give life to you, because you have been justified.)
11 And if the Spirit of him that raised Jesus Christ from death dwelleth in you, (then) he that raised Jesus Christ from death, shall quicken also your deadly bodies, for the Spirit of him that dwelleth in you. +For if the Spirit of him that raised Jesus Christ from (the) dead dwelleth in you, (then) he that raised Jesus Christ from (the) dead, shall quicken also your deadly bodies, for the Spirit of him is dwelling in you. (And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus Christ from the dead liveth in you, then he who raised Jesus Christ from the dead, shall also enliven, or shall give life, to your mortal bodies, through the Spirit of him who liveth in you.)
12 Therefore, brethren, we be debtors, not to the flesh, (so) that we live after (or according to) the flesh.
13 For if ye live after (or according to) the flesh, ye shall die; but if ye by the Spirit slay the deeds of the flesh, ye shall live.
14 For whoever be led by the Spirit of God, these be the sons of God.
15 For ye have not taken again the spirit of servage in dread, but ye have taken the Spirit of adoption of sons, that is, sons of God by grace, in which we cry, Abba, Father. (For ye have not received the spirit of servitude, or of slavery, in fear, but ye have received the Spirit of the adoption of sons, that is, sons of God by grace, in which we cry, Abba, or Father.)
16 And that Spirit yieldeth witnessing (or testifieth) to our spirit, that we be the sons of God;
17 if sons, and heirs, heirs forsooth of God, and heirs together with Christ, or soothly heirs of God, truly even-heirs of Christ, (or truly heirs of God, and fellow heirs with the Messiah); if nevertheless we suffer together, (so) that also we be glorified together.
18 And I deem, that the passions of this time be not even worthy, to the glory to coming or to the glory to come, that shall be showed in us. (And I judge, that the sufferings of this time be not worthy of any comparison, to the glory that is to come, that shall be showed to us, or which shall be given to us.)
19 For the abiding of creature (or of all Creation) abideth the showing of the sons of God.
20 But the creature is subject to vanity, not willing(ly), but for him that made it subject in hope; (But all Creation is subject to emptiness and futility, not out of free will, or of its own choice, but because of him who made it so, but also with hope;)
21 for that creature shall be delivered from servage of corruption into the liberty of the glory of the sons of God. (for that Creation shall be set free from the servitude, or the slavery, of corruption into the freedom of the glory of the sons of God.)
22 And we know, that each creature (or that all Creation) sorroweth, and travaileth with pain till yet.
23 And not only it, but also we us-selves, that have the first fruits of the Spirit, and we us-selves sorrow within us for the adoption of God’s sons, abiding the again-buying of our body (or awaiting the redemption of our body).
24 But by hope we be made safe (or But through hope we be saved). For hope that is seen, is not hope; for who hopeth (for) that thing, that he seeth?
25 And if we hope (for) that thing that we see not, we abide by patience.

Romans 8:5-25 in Young's Literal Translation

5 For those who are according to the flesh, the things of the flesh do mind; and those according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit;
6 for the mind of the flesh is death, and the mind of the Spirit — life and peace;
7 because the mind of the flesh is enmity to God, for to the law of God it doth not subject itself,
8 for neither is it able; and those who are in the flesh are not able to please God.
9 And ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God doth dwell in you; and if any one hath not the Spirit of Christ — this one is not His;
10 and if Christ is in you, the body, indeed, is dead because of sin, and the Spirit is life because of righteousness,
11 and if the Spirit of Him who did raise up Jesus out of the dead doth dwell in you, He who did raise up the Christ out of the dead shall quicken also your dying bodies, through His Spirit dwelling in you.
12 So, then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh;
13 for if according to the flesh ye do live, ye are about to die; and if, by the Spirit, the deeds of the body ye put to death, ye shall live;
14 for as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God;
15 for ye did not receive a spirit of bondage again for fear, but ye did receive a spirit of adoption in which we cry, 'Abba — Father.'
16 The Spirit himself doth testify with our spirit, that we are children of God;
17 and if children, also heirs, heirs, indeed, of God, and heirs together of Christ — if, indeed, we suffer together, that we may also be glorified together.
18 For I reckon that the sufferings of the present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory about to be revealed in us;
19 for the earnest looking out of the creation doth expect the revelation of the sons of God;
20 for to vanity was the creation made subject — not of its will, but because of Him who did subject it — in hope,
21 that also the creation itself shall be set free from the servitude of the corruption to the liberty of the glory of the children of God;
22 for we have known that all the creation doth groan together, and doth travail in pain together till now.
23 And not only so, but also we ourselves, having the first-fruit of the Spirit, we also ourselves in ourselves do groan, adoption expecting — the redemption of our body;
24 for in hope we were saved, and hope beheld is not hope; for what any one doth behold, why also doth he hope for it?
25 and if what we do not behold we hope for, through continuance we expect it.
