² For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus made me free from the law of sin and of death.

³ For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:

⁴ that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

⁵ For they that are after the flesh mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.

⁶ For the mind of the flesh is death; but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace:

⁷ because the mind of the flesh is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it be:

⁸ and they that are in the flesh cannot please God.

⁹ But ye are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. But if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

¹⁰ And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the spirit is life because of righteousness.

¹¹ But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall give life also to your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

¹² So then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh:

¹³ for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die; but if by the Spirit ye put to death the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

¹⁴ For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

⁹ But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

¹⁰ And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

¹¹ But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

¹¹ But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwelleth in you, he that raised up Christ Jesus from the dead shall quicken also your mortal bodies through his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

¹² So then, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh:

¹³ for if ye live after the flesh, ye must die; but if by the spirit ye mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.

¹⁴ For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

² God's Spirit causes us to live in a new way PRS as a result of what Christ Jesus did for us. And he has set up a way by which he frees each of us from continually being forced to sin (OR, to obey our self-directed natures) and from being separated from God.

³ What we could not do by trying to obey the laws of God PRS, because our self-directed nature was too weak to obey them, God did. He sent his own Son into the world in order that his Son might atone for our sin. His Son came having a body (OR, human nature) that was like the body (OR, the human nature) of us people who sin. By sending his Son in this way, he condemned and punished his Son, who never sinned, instead of punishing us, who sinned MTY. He did that by making his Son's body a sacrifice (OR, by causing his Son's body to suffer/die) for all our sin.

⁴ So we can now fulfill all that God required in his laws. We do this, not by our acting the way our sinful human nature desires, but instead by living as God's Spirit desires us to live.

⁵ People who live according to what their self-directed nature desires think about and are concerned about what their self-directed nature desires. But people who live according to what God's Spirit desires think about and are concerned about what God's Spirit desires.

⁶ Those people who PRS think about and are concerned about what their self-directed nature desires will not live eternally (OR, will be separated from God). But those people who think about and are concerned about what God's Spirit desires will live eternally and have inner peace.

⁷ Let me explain this. To the extent that people PRS think about and are concerned about what their self-directed nature desires, they are acting contrary to God. They do not obey the laws of God. In fact, they are not even able to obey his laws.

⁸ The people who let their self-directed nature control them cannot do what pleases God.

⁹ But we do not have to let our self-directed nature control us. Instead, we can let God's Spirit control us, because he lives within us. If people do not have living in them the Spirit who comes from Christ, they do not belong to Christ.

¹⁰ But since Christ is living in you/us by his Spirit, although your/our bodies are certain to die because you/we sin, your/our spirits are alive because God has erased the record of your/our sins.

¹¹ God caused Jesus to live again after he died. And because his Spirit lives in you/us, God will also make your/our bodies, which now are sure to die, live again after you/we die. God, who caused Christ to live again after he died, will make you/us live again by causing his Spirit, who lives within you/us, to do it.

¹² Therefore, my fellow believers, we must live as the Spirit directs us. What we do not have to do is to live as our self-directed nature guides us.

¹³ If you live the way your self-directed nature directs, you will surely not live eternally (OR, will surely be eternally separated from God). But if by the power of God's Spirit you quit doing the sinful things that your bodies desire MET, you will live eternally.

¹⁴ We who are guided by the Spirit of God {allow the Spirit of God to guide us} are God's children.

³ For what the law couldn’t do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,

⁴ that the ordinance of the law might be fulfilled in us who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

⁵ For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

⁶ For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace;

⁷ because the mind of the flesh is hostile toward God, for it is not subject to God’s law, neither indeed can it be.

⁸ Those who are in the flesh can’t please God.

⁹ But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is so that the Spirit of God dwells in you. But if any man doesn’t have the Spirit of Christ, he is not his.

³ For what the law was not able to do because it was feeble through the flesh, God, sending his Son in the image of the evil flesh, and as an offering for sin, gave his decision against sin in the flesh:

⁴ So that what was ordered by the law might be done in us, who are living, not in the way of the flesh, but in the way of the Spirit.

⁵ For those who are living in the way of the flesh give their minds to the things of the flesh, but those who go in the way of the Spirit, to the things of the Spirit.

⁶ For the mind of the flesh is death, but the mind of the Spirit is life and peace:

⁷ Because the mind of the flesh is opposite to God; it is not under the law of God, and is not able to be:

⁸ So that those who are in the flesh are not able to give pleasure to God.

⁹ You are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if the Spirit of God is in you. But if any man has not the Spirit of Christ he is not one of his.

¹⁰ And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.

¹¹ But if the Spirit of him who made Jesus come again from the dead is in you, he who made Christ Jesus come again from the dead will in the same way, through his Spirit which is in you, give life to your bodies which now are under the power of death.

¹² So then, my brothers, we are in debt, not to the flesh to be living in the way of the flesh:

¹³ For if you go in the way of the flesh, death will come on you; but if by the Spirit you put to death the works of the body, you will have life.

¹⁴ And all those who are guided by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

³ For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God, having sent his own Son, in likeness of flesh of sin, and for sin, has condemned sin in the flesh,

⁴ in order that the righteous requirement of the law should be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to flesh but according to Spirit.

⁵ For they that are according to flesh mind the things of the flesh; and they that are according to Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

¹¹ And if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead, dwell in you; he that raised up Jesus Christ from the dead, shall quicken also your mortal bodies, because of his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

⁴ so that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

⁵ Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

⁶ Further, the mindset of the flesh yields death, but the mindset of the Spirit yields life and peace;

⁷ because the mindset of the flesh represents enmity against God, since it does not submit to God's law, nor indeed can it.

⁸ So, those who are ‘in flesh’ cannot please God.

⁹ You, however, are not ‘in flesh’ but ‘in Spirit’, if indeed God's Spirit dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

¹⁰ But if Christ is in you, the body is dead through sin, but the Spirit is life through righteousness.

¹¹ And if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, then He who raised the Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies because of His Spirit who dwells in you.

¹² So then, brothers, we have no obligation to the flesh, to live according to it;

¹³ because if you live according to the flesh, you are about to die; but if you put to death the practices of the body, by the Spirit, you will live.

¹⁴ Because as many as are led by God's Spirit, these are God's sons

² The law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set me free from the law of sin and death.

³ What the law couldn't do because it was powerless due to our sinful nature, God was able to do! By sending his own Son in human form, God dealt with the whole problem of sin and destroyed sin's power in our sinful human nature.

⁴ In this way we could fulfill the good requirements of the law by following the Spirit and not our sinful nature.

⁵ Those who follow their sinful nature are preoccupied with sinful things, but those who follow the Spirit concentrate on spiritual things.

⁶ The sinful human mind results in death, but having the mind led by the Spirit results in life and peace.

⁷ The sinful human mind is hostile to God because it refuses to obey the law of God—in fact it never can,

⁸ and those who follow their sinful nature can never please God.

⁹ But you're not following your sinful nature, but the Spirit—if it's true that the Spirit of God is living in you. For those that don't have the Spirit of Christ in them don't belong to him.

¹⁰ However, if Christ is in you, even though your body is going to die because of sin, the Spirit gives you life because you're now right with God.

¹¹ The Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you. He who raised Jesus from the dead will also give life to your dead bodies through his Spirit that lives in you.

¹² So brothers and sisters, we don't have to follow our sinful nature that operates according to our human desires.

¹³ For if you live under the control of your sinful nature, you're going to die. But if you follow the way of the Spirit, putting to death the evil things you do, then you will live.

¹⁴ All those who are led by the Spirit of God are God's children.

² For the Lawe of the Spirite of life, which is in Christ Iesus, hath freed mee from the lawe of sinne and of death.

³ For (that that was impossible to ye Lawe, in as much as it was weake, because of ye flesh) God sending his owne Sonne, in ye similitude of sinful flesh, and for sinne, condened sinne in the flesh,

⁴ That that righteousnes of the Law might be fulfilled in vs, which walke not after ye flesh, but after the Spirit.

⁵ For they that are after the flesh, sauour the things of the flesh: but they that are after the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

⁶ For the wisedome of the flesh is death: but the wisedome of the Spirit is life and peace,

⁷ Because the wisedome of the flesh is enimitie against God: for it is not subiect to the Lawe of God, neither in deede can be.

⁸ So then they that are in the flesh, can not please God.

⁹ Now ye are not in the flesh, but in ye Spirit, because ye spirit of God dwelleth in you: but if any man hath not ye Spirit of Christ, ye same is not his.

¹⁰ And if Christ bee in you, the body is dead, because of sinne: but the Spirite is life for righteousnesse sake.

¹¹ But if the Spirit of him that raised vp Iesus from the dead, dwell in you, he that raised vp Christ from the dead, shall also quicken your mortall bodies, by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

¹² Therefore brethren, wee are detters not to the flesh, to liue after the flesh:

¹³ For if ye liue after the flesh, ye shall die: but if yee mortifie the deedes of the body by the Spirit, ye shall liue.

¹⁴ For as many as are ledde by the Spirit of God, they are the sonnes of God.

⁷ When a man pays attention to his own self-centred spirit, he becomes an enemy of God. He does not pay attention to God's word, it is too hard for him! Those ones who listen to their own self-centred spirit cannot please God.

⁵ For they who are according to the flesh have their mind on the things of the flesh; but they who are according to the Spirit, on the things of the Spirit.

² for through your union with Christ Jesus, the Law of the life-giving Spirit has set you free from the Law of sin and death.

³ What Law could not do, in so far as our earthly nature weakened its action, God did, by sending his own Son, with a nature resembling our sinful nature, to atone for sin. He condemned sin in that earthly nature,

⁴ so that the requirements of the Law might be satisfied in us who live now in obedience, not to our earthly nature, but to the Spirit.

⁵ They who follow their earthly nature are earthly-minded, while they who follow the Spirit are spiritually minded.

⁶ To be earthly-minded means death, to be spiritually minded means life and peace;

⁷ because to be earthly-minded is to be an enemy to God, for such a mind does not submit to the Law of God, nor indeed can it do so.

⁸ They who are earthly cannot please God.

⁹ You, however, are not earthly but spiritual, since the Spirit of God lives within you. Unless a person has the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ;

¹⁰ but, if Christ is within you, then, though the body is dead as a consequence of sin, the spirit is life as a consequence of righteousness.

¹¹ And, if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead lives within you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will give life even to your mortal bodies, through his Spirit living within you.

¹² So then, friends, we owe nothing to our earthly nature, that we should live in obedience to it.

¹³ If you live in obedience to your earthly nature, you will inevitably die; but if, by the power of the Spirit, you put an end to the evil habits of the body, you will live.

¹⁴ All who are guided by the Spirit of God are sons of God.

² for through your union with Christ Jesus, the Law of the life-giving Spirit has set you free from the Law of sin and death.

³ What Law could not do, in so far as our earthly nature weakened its action, God did, by sending his own Son, with a nature resembling our sinful nature, to atone for sin. He condemned sin in that earthly nature,

⁴ so that the requirements of the Law might be satisfied in us who live now in obedience, not to our earthly nature, but to the Spirit.

⁵ They who follow their earthly nature are earthly-minded, while they who follow the Spirit are spiritually minded.

⁶ To be earthly-minded means death, to be spiritually minded means life and peace;

⁷ because to be earthly-minded is to be an enemy to God, for such a mind does not submit to the Law of God, nor indeed can it do so.

⁸ They who are earthly cannot please God.

⁹ You, however, are not earthly but spiritual, since the Spirit of God lives within you. Unless a person has the Spirit of Christ, they do not belong to Christ;

¹⁰ but, if Christ is within you, then, though the body is dead as a consequence of sin, the spirit is life as a consequence of righteousness.

¹¹ And, if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead lives within you, he who raised Christ Jesus from the dead will give life even to your mortal bodies, through his Spirit living within you.

² His spirit is in us and makes us alive, and he makes us strong enough to beat that bad part of us that makes us go wrong. This is the new law about the Holy Spirit that lives inside us, and this makes us free from that old law that makes us end up dead.

³ We are so weak that the law that comes from Moses can’t help us. If we think about some bad thing that we like to do, then we can’t help ourselves, we just do it. That law just made us think about those bad things, then we wanted to do them. But God set us free from all that. He sent his own son to be in the same sort of body that we bad people have. Then God punished him instead of us. He died instead of us.

⁴ If we listen to his spirit in us and do whatever he says we will not listen any more to that old part of us that tells us to do bad. We will do good things, like the things in his law.

⁵ Some people just think about themselves so they only do whatever makes them feel good. They let that bad part inside them be their boss and they do whatever it tells them to do. But other people think about God and his spirit and they do whatever the Holy Spirit tells them to do.

⁶ If we let that bad part inside us be our boss and only do whatever makes us feel good, we will die. But if we do the things the Holy Spirit tells us, and let him control us, we will live happy, and calm and settled inside ourselves.

⁷ That bad part inside us fights against God, so if we do whatever it says we don’t do the things that God says. If we are like that we can never follow God’s laws. If we live like that we can never make God happy.

⁹ But I know that you aren’t like that any more. You haven’t let that bad part of you be your boss, but you have joined up with the Holy Spirit and now he lives inside you. That’s right. If people don’t have the spirit of Jesus Christ in them, they don’t belong to him.

¹⁰ But Jesus Christ does live inside you. Yes, you did bad things, so your bodies will die, but God says that you are all right now, so his spirit makes you alive.

¹¹ Remember that Jesus died but God made him alive again. And God will do that for you too. Your bodies will die, but after that God will make them alive again. His spirit will do that. He lives inside you.

¹² So, my friends, you don’t have to do bad things any more. You don’t have to do whatever that bad part of you tells you to do.

¹³ If you do those things, you will die. But if God’s spirit is in you he can help you block that bad part of you, like you kill it, and then you will not do those bad things, and you will live.

¹⁴ It is like this. God’s children are those people that listen to his spirit and follow him.

² For the lawe of the sprete that bringeth life thorowe Iesus Christ hath delivered me from the lawe of synne and deeth.

³ For what the lawe coulde not doo in as moche it was weake because of the flesshe: that performed God and sent his sonne in the similitude of synfull flesshe and by synne daned synne in the flesshe:

⁴ that the rightewesnes requyred of the lawe myght be fulfilled in vs which walke not after the flesshe but after the sprete.

⁵ For they that are carnall are carnally mynded. But they that are spirituall are gostly mynded.

⁶ To be carnally mynded is deeth. But to be spiritually mynded is lyfe and peace.

⁷ Because that the flesshly mynde is emnyte agaynst God: for it is not obedient to the lawe of God nether can be.

⁸ So then they that are geven to the flesshe cannot please God.

⁹ But ye are not geven to the flesshe but to the sprete: yf so be that the sprite of God dwell in you. If ther be eny man that hath not the sprite of Christ the same is none of his.

¹⁰ Yf Christ be in you the body is deed because of synne: but the sprite is lyfe for rightewesnes sake.

¹¹ Wherfore if the sprite of him that raysed vppe Iesus from deeth dwell in you: even he that raysed vp Christ from deeth shall quycken youre mortall bodyes because that this sprite dwelleth in you.

¹² Therfore brethren we are nowe detters not to the flesshe to live after the flesshe.

¹³ For if ye live after the flesshe ye must dye. But yf ye mortifie the dedes of the body by the helpe of the sprite ye shall lyve.

¹⁴ For as many as are led by the sprete of God: they are the sonnes of god.

² For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death.

³ For what the law was unable to do because it was weak through the flesh, God did. He sent his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh to be an offering for sin, and he condemned sin in the flesh.

⁴ He did this in order that the requirements of the law might be fulfilled in us, we who walk not according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.

⁵ Those who live according to the flesh pay attention to the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit pay attention to the things of the Spirit.

⁶ For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace.

⁷ The mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God, for it is not subject to God's law, nor is it able to do so.

⁸ Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

⁹ However, you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if it is true that God's Spirit lives in you. But if someone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to him.

¹⁰ If Christ is in you, the body is dead with respect to sin, but the spirit is alive with respect to righteousness.

¹¹ If the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will give life also to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you.

¹² So then, brothers, we are debtors, but not to the flesh to live according to the flesh.

¹³ For if you live according to the flesh, you are about to die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the body's actions, you will live.

¹⁴ For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.

³ For what the law couldn’t do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God did, sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,

⁵ For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit.

⁵ For they that be after the flesh, understand or savour those things that be of the flesh; but they that be after the Spirit, feel those things that be of the Spirit.

⁶ For the prudence of flesh is death; but the prudence of Spirit is life and peace.

⁷ For the wisdom of the flesh is enemy to God; for it is not subject to the law of God, for neither it may be subject to the law.

⁸ And they that be in flesh, may not please to God.

⁹ But ye be not in flesh, but in Spirit; if nevertheless the Spirit of God dwelleth in you. But if any man hath not the Spirit of Christ, this is not his.

⁴ (so) that the justifying of the law were fulfilled in us, (so) that we go not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.

⁵ For they that be after the flesh, understand or savour those things that be of the flesh; but they that be after the Spirit, feel (or experience) those things that be of the Spirit.

⁶ For the prudence (or the wisdom) of (the) flesh is death; but the prudence (or the wisdom) of (the) Spirit is life and peace.

¹⁰ For if Christ is in you, the body is dead for sin or the body is dead from sin, but the Spirit liveth for justifying. (For if the Messiah is in you, then though the body shall die because of sin, the Spirit shall give life to you, because you have been justified.)

¹¹ And if the Spirit of him that raised Jesus Christ from death dwelleth in you, (then) he that raised Jesus Christ from death, shall quicken also your deadly bodies, for the Spirit of him that dwelleth in you. +For if the Spirit of him that raised Jesus Christ from (the) dead dwelleth in you, (then) he that raised Jesus Christ from (the) dead, shall quicken also your deadly bodies, for the Spirit of him is dwelling in you. (And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus Christ from the dead liveth in you, then he who raised Jesus Christ from the dead, shall also enliven, or shall give life, to your mortal bodies, through the Spirit of him who liveth in you.)
