Romans 7:20-23 in English

²⁰ But if what I would not, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me.

²¹ I find then the law, that, to me who would do good, evil is present.

²² For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

²³ but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.

²⁰ Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

²¹ I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

²² For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

²³ But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

²⁰ But if what I would not, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwelleth in me.

²¹ I find then the law, that, to me who would do good, evil is present.

²⁰ Because I do evil things that I do not want to do, it is not that I do evil things because I want to. Instead, I do them because my self-directed nature, which permeates me PRS, causes me to do them.

²¹ I find, then, that what always happens is that when I want to do what is good, there is an evil desire present within me that PRS prevents me from doing good.

²² With my new inner nature I like the laws of God very much.

²³ Nevertheless, I sense that there is a different force that is in ◄my body/me► PRS, SYN. It is opposed to what with my mind I desire to do MET, and it puts me inescapably under the control of MET the sinful desires that I have SYN.

²⁰ But if what I don’t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.

²¹ I find then the law that, while I desire to do good, evil is present.

²² For I delight in God’s law after the inward person,

²³ but I see a different law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity under the law of sin which is in my members.

²⁰ But if what I don’t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.

²¹ I find then the law that, while I desire to do good, evil is present.

²⁰ But if I do what I have no mind to do, it is no longer I who do it, but the sin living in me.

²¹ So I see a law that, though I have a mind to do good, evil is present in me.

²² In my heart I take pleasure in the law of God,

²³ But I see another law in my body, working against the law of my mind, and making me the servant of the law of sin which is in my flesh.

²⁰ But if what I do not will, this I practise, it is no longer I that do it, but the sin that dwells in me.

²¹ I find then the law upon me who will to practise what is right, that with me evil is there.

²² For I delight in the law of God according to the inward man:

²³ but I see another law in my members, warring in opposition to the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which exists in my members.

²⁰ Now if I do that which I will not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

²¹ I find then a law, that when I have a will to do good, evil is present with me.

²² For I am delighted with the law of God, according to the inward man:

²³ But I see another law in my members, fighting against the law of my mind, and captivating me in the law of sin, that is in my members.

²⁰ But if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but the sin living in me.

²¹ Therefore I find this law, that when I wish to do the right thing, evil is right there with me.

²² For I delight in the law of God in my inner being.

²³ But I see a different law in my members, waging war against the law of my mind, and capturing me by the law of sin which is in my members.

²⁰ Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but the sin dwelling in me.

²¹ So I find this ‘law’: when I want to do good, evil is right there with me.

²² I joyfully agree with God's law according to the inner man,

²³ but I see a different ‘law’ in my body parts, warring against the law of my mind and taking me captive to the law of the sin that is in my body parts.

²⁰ However, if I'm doing what I don't want to, then it's no longer me doing it, but sin living in me.

²¹ This is the principle I've discovered: if I want to do what's good, evil is always there too.

²² My inner self is delighted with God's law,

²³ but I see a different law at work within me that is at war with the law my mind has decided to follow, making me a prisoner of the law of sin that is within me.

²⁰ Nowe if I do that I would not, it is no more I that doe it, but the sinne that dwelleth in me.

²¹ I finde then that when I would doe good, I am thus yoked, that euill is present with me.

²² For I delite in the Law of God, concerning the inner man:

²³ But I see another Law in my members, rebelling against the Lawe of my minde, and leading me captiue vnto the lawe of sinne, which is in my members.

²⁰ Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

²¹ I find then a law, that, when I would do good, evil is present with me.

²² For I delight in the law of God after the inward man:

²³ but I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

²⁰ But if I do what I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

²¹ I find then that there is a law to me, that when I would do good, evil is present with me.

²² For I delight in the Law of God, as to the inward man;

²³ but I perceive another law in my members warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members.

²⁰ But, when I do the thing that I want not to do, the action is no longer my own, but is done by the sin which is within me.

²¹ This, then, is the law that I find — when I want to do right, wrong presents itself!

²² At heart I delight in the Law of God;

²³ but throughout my body I see a different law, one which is in conflict with the law accepted by my reason, and which endeavours to make me a prisoner to that law of sin which exists throughout my body.

²⁰ But, when I do the thing that I want not to do, the action is no longer my own, but is done by the sin which is within me.

²¹ This, then, is the law that I find — when I want to do right, wrong presents itself!

²² At heart I delight in the Law of God;

²³ but throughout my body I see a different law, one which is in conflict with the law accepted by my reason, and which endeavors to make me a prisoner to that law of sin which exists throughout my body.

²⁰ That proves it. It’s not me that does those bad things. It’s that bad part inside me that does those bad things.

²¹ This is what happens. It is like another law. Every time I try to do something good, that bad part of me wants to take control and make me go wrong.

²² Really, I myself want to live the right way,

²³ but there is a big fight going on inside me. That bad part of me makes its own law. It makes me think the wrong way. It makes me its prisoner so that I can’t do the things I really want to do.

²⁰ Finally yf I do that I wolde not then is it not I that doo it but synne that dwelleth in me doeth it.

²¹ I fynde then by the lawe that when I wolde do good evyll is present with me.

²² I delite in the lawe of God concerninge the inner man.

²³ But I se another lawe in my membres rebellinge agaynst the lawe of my mynde and subduynge me vnto the lawe of synne which is in my membres.

²⁰ Now if I do what I do not want to do, then it is no longer I who am acting, but rather sin that lives in me.

²¹ I find, then, the principle in me that I want to do what is good, but that evil is actually present in me.

²² For I rejoice in the law of God with the inner man.

²³ But I see a different principle in my body parts. It fights against that new principle in my mind. It takes me captive by the principle of sin that is in my body parts.

²⁰ But if what I don’t desire, that I do, it is no more I that do it, but sin which dwells in me.

²¹ I find then the law that, while I desire to do good, evil is present.

²⁰ And if I do that evil thing that I will not, I work not it, but the sin that dwelleth in me.

²¹ Therefore I find the law or a law to me willing to do good thing, for evil thing lieth to me.

²² For I delight together to the law of God, after the inner man.

²³ But I see another law in my members, fighting against the law of my soul, and making me captive in the law of sin, that is in my members.

²⁰ And if I do that evil thing that I will not (or And if I do that evil thing that I do not desire to do), (then) I work not it, but the sin that dwelleth in me.

²¹ Therefore I find the law to me willing to do good thing or Therefore I find a law to me willing (or desiring) to do (the) good thing, for evil thing lieth to me. (And so I find this law in me; I desire to do the good thing, but only the evil thing lieth before me.)

²² For I delight (al)together to the law of God, after the inner man. (For I greatly delight in the Law of God, in my inner man.)

²³ But I see another law in my members, fighting against the law of my soul, and making me captive in the law of sin, that is in my members.

²⁰ And if what I do not will, this I do, it is no longer I that work it, but the sin that is dwelling in me.

²¹ I find, then, the law, that when I desire to do what is right, with me the evil is present,

²² for I delight in the law of God according to the inward man,

²³ and I behold another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of the sin that is in my members.
