Romans 7:1-4 in English

¹ Or are ye ignorant, brethren (for I speak to men who know the law), that the law hath dominion over a man for so long time as he liveth?

² For the woman that hath a husband is bound by law to the husband while he liveth; but if the husband die, she is discharged from the law of the husband.

³ So then if, while the husband liveth, she be joined to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if the husband die, she is free from the law, so that she is no adulteress, though she be joined to another man.

⁴ Wherefore, my brethren, ye also were made dead to the law through the body of Christ; that ye should be joined to another, even to him who was raised from the dead, that we might bring forth fruit unto God.

¹ Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth?

² For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.

³ So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.

⁴ Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God.

¹ My fellow believers, you know about laws. So you certainly know (OR, I want you to remember) that people have to obey laws PRS only while they are alive. RHQ

² For example, a woman is required by the law {the law requires a woman} to obey and be faithful to her husband as long as he is alive. But if her husband dies, she is freed from having to { no longer has to} obey the law about remaining married to her husband.

³ Therefore, a woman will be called {people will call a woman} an adulteress if she lives with another man while her husband is alive. But if her husband dies, she no longer has to obey that law. Then she will not be an adulteress if she marries another man.

⁴ Likewise, my fellow believers, just like people are free from having to obey any law after they die MET, you and I have been freed { God has freed you and me} from having to obey all the Jewish rituals and laws MET. That is because it is as though we died with Christ when he was crucified. Now you and I belong to someone else MET, like a woman who marries again after her husband dies belongs to another man. Specifically, you and I belong to Christ, who has come back to life {whom God has caused to live again after he died}, in order that we may live righteously IDM to honor God.

¹ Is it not clear, my brothers (I am using an argument to those who have knowledge of the law), that the law has power over a man as long as he is living?

² For the woman who has a husband is placed by the law under the power of her husband as long as he is living; but if her husband is dead, she is free from the law of the husband.

³ So if, while the husband is living, she is joined to another man, she will get the name of one who is untrue to her husband: but if the husband is dead, she is free from the law, so that she is not untrue, even if she takes another man.

⁴ In the same way, my brothers, you were made dead to the law through the body of Christ, so that you might be joined to another, even to him who came again from the dead, so that we might give fruit to God.

² For the married woman is bound by law to her husband so long as he is alive; but if the husband should die, she is clear from the law of the husband:

³ so then, the husband being alive, she shall be called an adulteress if she be to another man; but if the husband should die, she is free from the law, so as not to be an adulteress, though she be to another man.

⁴ So that, my brethren, ye also have been made dead to the law by the body of the Christ, to be to another, who has been raised up from among the dead, in order that we might bear fruit to God.

² For the woman who is under a man has been bound by law to the living husband. But if the husband should die, she is released from the law of the husband.

³ So then, while the husband is living, she will be called an adulteress if she becomes married to a different husband; but if her husband should die, she is free from the law, so that she is not an adulteress, having become married to a different husband.

⁴ Therefore, my brothers, you also were put to death to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, so that we might bear fruit to God.

¹ Do you not know, brothers (for I am speaking to those who know law), that the law has authority over someone only as long as he lives?

² For example, a married woman is bound by law to her husband while he lives, but if the man should die, she is released from the law about the husband.

³ So then, if she should ‘marry’ another man while her husband is living, she will be labeled an adulteress; but if the husband should die, she is free from that law, not being an adulteress if she marries another man.

⁴ Therefore, my brothers, you also were put to death to the law through the body of the Christ so as to belong to another—to Him who was raised from the dead—so that we should produce fruit to God.

¹ Brothers and sisters, (I'm speaking here to people who know the law), don't you see that the law has authority over someone only while they're alive?

² For example, a married woman is bound by the law to her husband while he's alive, but if he dies, she's released from this legal obligation to him.

³ So if she lives with another man while her husband is alive, she would be committing adultery. However, if her husband dies and then she marries another man, she wouldn't be guilty of adultery.

⁴ In the same way, my friends, you've become dead to the law through the body of Christ, and so now you belong to someone else—Christ, who was raised from the dead so that we could live a productive life for God.

¹ Knowe yee not, brethren, (for I speake to them that knowe the Lawe) that the Lawe hath dominion ouer a man as long as he liueth?

² For the woman which is in subiection to a man, is bound by the Lawe to the man, while he liueth: but if the man bee dead, shee is deliuered from the lawe of the man.

³ So then, if while the man liueth, she taketh another man, she shalbe called an adulteresse: but if the man be dead, she is free from the Law, so that shee is not an adulteresse, though shee take another man.

⁴ So yee, my brethren, are dead also to the Law by ye body of Christ, that ye should be vnto an other, euen vnto him that is raised vp from the dead, that we should bring foorth fruite vnto God.

² For the married woman is bound by law to her husband while he liveth; but if the husband die, she is released from the law which bound her to him.

³ So then, if while her husband is living she connect herself with another man, she will be called an adulteress; but if her husband die, she is no longer bound by that law, so that she will not be an adulteress, though she connect herself with another man.

⁴ So then, my brethren, ye also were slain to the Law through the body of Christ, that ye might be connected with another, even with him who was raised from the dead, that we might bear fruit to God.

¹ Surely, friends, you know (for I am speaking to people who know what Law means) that Law has power over a person only as long as they lives.

² For example, by law a married woman is bound to her husband while he is living; but, if her husband dies, she is set free from the law that bound her to him.

³ If, then, during her husband's lifetime, she unites herself to another man, she will be called an adulteress; but, if her husband dies, the law has no further hold on her, nor, if she unites herself to another man, is she an adulteress.

¹ I say this now to my own countrymen, you Jewish people. You know the law that God gave to Moses. But we can only do what that law says while we are alive. That law is not there for us after we die.

² I’ll talk about one part of the law to show you what I mean. That law says that a woman is only allowed to marry one man. If a married woman sleeps with a man that is not her husband, she breaks that law and she is guilty. We call it adultery. But if her husband dies, there is no law for her about adultery any more, so she can marry another man and sleep with him.

⁴ You know that Jesus died for us. His body was dead on the cross. And you believe in Jesus, so it is like you died too. That old law is not for you any more. You belong to Jesus now. He came alive again, and you are alive again too. You have a new life now, so you can do a lot of good things for God.

¹ Remember ye not brethren (I speake to them that know the lawe) how that the lawe hath power over a man as longe as it endureth?

² For the woman which is in subieccion to a man is bounde by the lawe to the man as longe as he liveth. Yf the man be deed she is lowsed from the lawe of the man.

³ So then yf whill the man liveth she couple her selfe with another man she shalbe counted a wedlocke breaker. But yf the man be deed she is fre from the lawe: so that she is no wedlocke breaker though she couple her selfe with another man.

⁴ Even so ye my brethren are deed concerninge the lawe by the body of Christ that ye shuld be coupled to another (I meane to him that is rysen agayne from deeth) that we shuld bringe forth frute vnto God.

¹ Or do you not know, brothers (for I am speaking to people who know about law), that the law controls a person for as long as he lives?

² For the married woman is bound by law to the husband while he lives, but if the husband dies, she is released from the law of marriage.

³ So then, while her husband is living, if she lives with another man, she will be called an adulteress. But if the husband dies, she is free from the law, so she is not an adulteress if she lives with another man.

⁴ Therefore, my brothers, you were also made dead to the law through the body of Christ. This is so that you could be joined to another, that is, to him who was raised from the dead, in order that we might produce fruit for God.

³ Therefore she shall be called (an) adulteress, if she be with another man, while the husband liveth; but if her husband is dead, she is delivered from the law of the husband, (or but if her husband dieth, she is released from the marriage law), (so) that she be not (an) adulteress, if she be with another man.

⁴ And so, my brethren, ye be made dead to the law by the body of Christ, (so) that ye be of another, that rose again from death (or who rose again from the dead), (so) that ye bear fruit to God. Truly, brethren, and ye be made dead to the law through the body of Christ, that ye be another’s, that rose again from (the) dead, (so) that we bear fruit to God.

¹ Are ye ignorant, brethren — for to those knowing law I speak — that the law hath lordship over the man as long as he liveth?

² for the married woman to the living husband hath been bound by law, and if the husband may die, she hath been free from the law of the husband;

³ so, then, the husband being alive, an adulteress she shall be called if she may become another man's; and if the husband may die, she is free from the law, so as not to be an adulteress, having become another man's.

⁴ So that, my brethren, ye also were made dead to the law through the body of the Christ, for your becoming another's, who out of the dead was raised up, that we might bear fruit to God;
