Romans 6:3-13 in English

³ Or are ye ignorant that all we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

⁴ We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.

⁵ For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection;

⁶ knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away, that so we should no longer be in bondage to sin;

⁷ for he that hath died is justified from sin.

⁸ But if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him;

⁹ knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death no more hath dominion over him.

¹⁰ For the death that he died, he died unto sin once: but the life that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

¹¹ Even so reckon ye also yourselves to be dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ Jesus.

¹² Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey the lusts thereof:

¹³ neither present your members unto sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but present yourselves unto God, as alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

³ Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?

⁴ Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.

⁵ For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:

⁶ Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth we should not serve sin.

⁷ For he that is dead is freed from sin.

⁸ Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him:

⁹ Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.

¹⁰ For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.

¹¹ Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹² Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

¹³ Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

³ When we were baptized { asked someone to baptize us} in order to show that we have a relationship with (OR, are united to) Jesus Christ, our being baptized was to declare that it was as though we died with Christ. ◄ I want you to remember that!/Do you not know that?► RHQ

⁴ So, when we were baptized {someone baptized us}, it was as though we were buried with Christ. We were baptized in order to indicate that we would not let our sinful desires make us do what they want us to do, just like people cannot make a corpse do what they want it to do MET. We were baptized to signify that we would continually conduct our lives in a new way, just like Christ was caused to live again in a new way by the great power of God his Father.

⁵ Because of our close relationship with Christ, we have separated ourselves from the former way in which we conducted our lives, just like he was separated from his physical life when he died MET. But God will also certainly enable us to live in a new way, just like he enabled Christ to live again.

⁶ We must keep remembering that when Christ died on the cross MET, it was as though our sinful nature died with him. It has lost its power to make us do what it wants us to do MET. That happened in order that we would not do the sinful things that our bodies MET, which desire to sin, want us to do, and in order that we would no longer have to sin MET, as slaves have to do what their masters want.

⁷ We are, as it were, freed { free} from sinful desires MET controlling us, just like those who have died are free from anything controlling them.

⁸ Since it is as though we died with Christ, we believe that we will continue to live with him.

⁹ We know that since God enabled Christ to live again after he died, Christ will never die again. Nothing will ever be able to make him die again PRS.

¹⁰ When he died, he died once for people who had sinned, and he will never die again; but in regard to his living again now, he lives in order to serve/honor God.

¹¹ Similarly, you must consider that it is as though you have become unable to do what your sinful desires MET want, as a corpse is not able to do what anyone wants it to do. You must also consider that because of your relationship to Christ Jesus you are living in a new way in order to serve/honor God.

¹² So, do not let the desire to sin PRS control your bodies MET with the result that you do the sinful things that you desire to do. Remember that your bodies will surely die, but your spirits will never die.

¹³ Do not let any of your body parts do wicked things, as you did MET when you were spiritually dead. Instead, present yourselves to God as people who are alive spiritually. Present all your body parts to God, to allow him to use them to do righteous things.

⁵ For, if we have been made like him in his death, we will, in the same way, be like him in his coming to life again;

⁶ Being conscious that our old man was put to death on the cross with him, so that the body of sin might be put away, and we might no longer be servants to sin.

⁷ Because he who is dead is free from sin.

⁸ But if we are dead with Christ, we have faith that we will be living with him;

⁹ Having knowledge that because Christ has come back from the dead, he will never again go down to the dead; death has no more power over him.

¹⁰ For his death was a death to sin, but his life now is a life which he is living to God.

¹¹ Even so see yourselves as dead to sin, but living to God in Christ Jesus.

¹² For this cause do not let sin be ruling in your body which is under the power of death, so that you give way to its desires;

¹³ And do not give your bodies to sin as the instruments of wrongdoing, but give yourselves to God, as those who are living from the dead, and your bodies as instruments of righteousness to God.

⁹ Knowing that Christ rising again from the dead, dieth now no more, death shall no more have dominion over him.

¹⁰ For in that he died to sin, he died once; but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God:

¹¹ So do you also reckon, that you are dead to sin, but alive unto God, in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹² Let no sin therefore reign in your mortal body, so as to obey the lusts thereof.

¹³ Neither yield ye your members as instruments of iniquity unto sin; but present yourselves to God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of justice unto God.

³ Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus have been baptized into His death?

⁴ Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, so that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also should walk in newness of life.

⁵ For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we shall also be in the likeness of His resurrection;

⁶ knowing this, that our old man was crucified with Him, so that the body of sin may be done away with, that we should no longer serve sin.

⁵ Now if we have become united with Him in His death, we will certainly be in His resurrection as well;

⁶ knowing this, that our old self was crucified with Him in order that the body of the sin might be set aside, so that we no longer be enslaved to that sin—

⁷ because he who has died has been released from that sin.

⁸ Now since we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with Him,

⁹ knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, cannot die again; death can no longer master Him

¹⁰ —the death He died He died to sin once for all, while the life He lives He lives to God.

¹¹ Thus you also, consider yourselves to be dead indeed to the sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

¹² Therefore do not let the sin reign in your mortal body, so that you obey it with the body's evil desires

¹³ —do not present any part of your body to sin as an implement for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead, and your body parts to God as implements for righteousness.

³ Don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

⁴ Through baptism we were buried with him in death so that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father we too can live a new life.

⁵ If we've become one with him in dying like he did, then we'll be raised like him too.

⁶ We know that our old self was crucified with him to dispose of the dead body of sin so that we wouldn't be enslaved by sin any longer.

⁷ Anyone who has died has been set free from sin.

⁸ Since we died with Christ, we have confidence that we will also live with him,

⁹ for we know that because Christ has been raised from the dead he won't ever die, because death has no longer any power over him.

¹⁰ In dying, he died to sin once and for all, but now he lives, and he lives for God!

¹¹ In just the same way you should consider yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God through Christ Jesus.

¹² Don't let sin have control over your mortal body, don't give in to its temptations,

¹³ and don't use any parts of your body as evil tools of sin. Instead dedicate yourselves to God as those who have been brought back from death to life, and use all parts of your body as tools to do something good for God.

³ Knowe ye not, that all we which haue bene baptized into Iesus Christ, haue bene baptized into his death?

⁴ We are buried then with him by baptisme into his death, that like as Christ was raysed vp from the dead to the glorie of the Father, so we also should walke in newnesse of life.

⁵ For if we be planted with him to the similitude of his death, euen so shall we be to the similitude of his resurrection,

⁶ Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sinne might be destroied, that henceforth we should not serue sinne.

⁷ For he that is dead, is freed from sinne.

⁸ Wherefore, if we bee dead with Christ, we beleeue that we shall liue also with him,

⁹ Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead, dieth no more: death hath no more dominion ouer him.

¹⁰ For in that hee died, hee died once to sinne but in that he liueth, he liueth to God.

¹¹ Likewise thinke ye also, that ye are dead to sin, but are aliue to God in Iesus Christ our Lord.

¹² Let not sinne reigne therefore in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in ye lusts therof:

¹³ Neither giue ye your members, as weapons of vnrighteousnes vnto sinne: but giue your selues vnto God, as they that are aliue from the dead, and giue your members as weapons of righteousnesse vnto God.

⁴ When Jesus christ died, it's like we also died; when they put him in the grave, it's like we also went into the grave. When he was raised to life by the Father, we also came to life joined with Jesus Christ. (Truly the Father is the expert for everything, nobody can stop him.) It became like that for us when someone baptised us. That's the way God did it for us, so that we can become different and stay in a really good way.

⁶ knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that we might no longer be in slavery to sin;

⁷ for he that hath died hath been set free from sin.

⁸ And if we died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him;

⁹ since we know that Christ, having been raised from the dead, dieth no more; death hath dominion over him no longer.

¹⁰ For in that he died, he died to sin once for all; but in that he liveth, he liveth to God.

¹³ nor yield up your members to sin as instruments of unrighteousness; but yield up yourselves to God, as being alive from the dead, and your members to God as instruments of righteousness.

³ Or can it be that you do not know that all of us, who were baptised into union with Christ Jesus, in our baptism shared his death?

⁴ Consequently, through sharing his death in our baptism, we were buried with him; so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by a manifestation of the Father's power, so we also may live a new life.

⁵ If we have become united with him by the act symbolic of his death, surely we will also become united with him by the act symbolic of his resurrection.

⁶ We recognise the truth that our old self was crucified with Christ, in order that the body, the stronghold of sin, might be rendered powerless, so that we should no longer be slaves to sin.

⁵ We joined up with Jesus Christ and it is like we die, just like he died, and then it is like we come back to life, just like he came back to life.

⁶ We know that they nailed Jesus Christ to that cross, and it was like they nailed a part of us there too, that old part of us that makes us do wrong all the time. It got nailed to that cross with Jesus, and it is dead. So now it doesn’t have any power over us. It can’t make us do bad things.

⁷ You know, if something is dead it can’t do anything. Well, that bad old part of us is dead now so it can’t make us do bad things any more.

⁸ It is like we died, just like Jesus Christ died, and now we know that we will also live again with him.

⁹ He came back to life after he died, so we are sure that he can never die again. Nothing and can kill him ever again.

¹⁰ He did die once, for people that did bad things, but now he stays alive all the time with God.

¹¹ Well, we have to think about ourselves in that same way. We joined up with Jesus Christ, so now, if we start to think we want to do something bad we have to tell ourselves that we died, just like Jesus died, so we can’t do anything bad. We have to think about living God’s way and then we will be really alive, just like Jesus Christ is alive.

¹² So don’t just think about the law that comes from Moses. It talks about the bad things people do. If you just think about this you will want to do those same bad things yourself. In that way that law will be your boss and your bodies too will make you want to do bad. Don’t be like that. Don’t let any part of your body be your boss. Don’t do whatever it wants. Instead you have to give your bodies to God and let him use you to do good things. You have to think about him all the time and remember that he is very good to you, and that he made you alive again in a new way. If you think like this you will not want to do anything bad. God is really good to you. That law is not your boss any more.

³ Remember ye not that all we which are baptysed in the name of Iesu Christ are baptysed to dye with him?

⁴ We are buryed with him by baptism for to dye that lykewyse as Christ was raysed vp from deeth by the glorye of the father: even so we also shuld walke in a newe lyfe.

⁵ For yf we be graft in deeth lyke vnto him: even so must we be in the resurreccion.

⁶ This we must remember that oure olde man is crucified with him also that the body of synne myght vtterly be destroyed that hence forth we shuld not be servauntes of synne.

⁷ For he that is deed ys iustified from synne.

⁸ Wherfore yf we be deed with Christ we beleve that we shall live with him:

⁹ remembringe that Christ once raysed from deeth dyeth no more. Deeth hath no moare power over him.

¹⁰ For as touchynge that he dyed he dyed concernynge synne once. And as touchinge that he liveth he liveth vnto God.

¹¹ Lykewyse ymagen ye also that ye are deed concernynge synne: but are alive vnto God thorow Iesus Christ oure Lorde.

¹² Let not synne raygne therfore in youre mortall bodyes that ye shuld thervnto obey in the lustes of it.

¹³ Nether geve ye youre members as instrumentes of vnrightewesnes vnto synne: but geve youre selves vnto God as they that are alive from deeth. And geve youre membres as iustrumetes of rightewesnes vnto God.

¹⁰ For in regard to the death that he died to sin, he died once for all. However, the life that he lives, he lives for God.

¹¹ In the same way, you also must consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.

¹² Therefore do not let sin rule in your mortal body in order that you may obey its lusts.

¹³ Do not present the parts of your body to sin, to be tools used for unrighteousness. But present yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life, and present the parts of your body to God as tools to be used for righteousness.

³ Or don’t you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death?

⁴ We were buried therefore with him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, so we also might walk in newness of life.

⁵ For if we have become united with him in the likeness of his death, we will also be part of his resurrection;

⁶ knowing this, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of sin might be done away with, so that we would no longer be in bondage to sin.

⁷ For he who has died has been freed from sin.

⁸ But if we died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him,

⁹ knowing that Christ, being raised from the dead, dies no more. Death no longer has dominion over him!

³ Whether, brethren, ye know not, that whichever we be baptized in Christ Jesus, we be baptized in his death? (Brothers, do ye not know, that whoever is baptized into union with the Messiah Jesus, is baptized into his death?)

⁴ For we be together buried with him by baptism into death; that as Christ arose from death by the glory of the Father, or that as Christ rose from (the) dead by (the) glory of the father, (or that as the Messiah rose from the dead by the glory of the Father), so walk we in a newness of life.

⁶ witting this thing (or knowing this), that our old man is crucified together (with him), (so) that the body of sin be destroyed, (so) that we serve no more to sin.

⁷ For he that is dead to sin, is justified from sin.

⁸ And if we be dead with Christ (or And if we have died with the Messiah), we believe that also we shall live together with him;

⁹ witting that Christ, rising again from death or rising again from (the) dead, now dieth not, death shall no more have lordship on him. (knowing that the Messiah, rising again from the dead, now dieth not, death shall no more have lordship over him.)

¹⁰ For that he was dead to sin, he was dead once; but that he liveth, he liveth to God.

¹¹ So ye deem yourselves to be dead to sin, but living to God in Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹² Therefore reign not sin in your deadly body, that ye obey to his covetings. (And so do not let sin reign in your mortal body, so that ye obey its desires.)

¹³ Neither give ye your members (as) armours, (or as arms, or as instruments), of wickedness to sin, but give ye yourselves to God, as they that live of dead men, and your members (as) armours, (or as arms, or as instruments), of rightwiseness to God.

³ are ye ignorant that we, as many as were baptized to Christ Jesus, to his death were baptized?

⁴ we were buried together, then, with him through the baptism to the death, that even as Christ was raised up out of the dead through the glory of the Father, so also we in newness of life might walk.

⁵ For, if we have become planted together to the likeness of his death, so also we shall be of the rising again;

⁶ this knowing, that our old man was crucified with him, that the body of the sin may be made useless, for our no longer serving the sin;

⁷ for he who hath died hath been set free from the sin.

⁸ And if we died with Christ, we believe that we also shall live with him,

⁹ knowing that Christ, having been raised up out of the dead, doth no more die, death over him hath no more lordship;

¹⁰ for in that he died, to the sin he died once, and in that he liveth, he liveth to God;

¹¹ so also ye, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to the sin, and living to God in Jesus Christ our Lord.

¹² Let not then the sin reign in your mortal body, to obey it in its desires;

¹³ neither present ye your members instruments of unrighteousness to the sin, but present yourselves to God as living out of the dead, and your members instruments of righteousness to God;
