Romans 2:6-15 in English

⁶ who will render to every man according to his works:

⁷ to them that by patience in well-doing seek for glory and honor and incorruption, eternal life:

⁸ but unto them that are factious, and obey not the truth, but obey unrighteousness, shall be wrath and indignation,

⁹ tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that worketh evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek;

¹⁰ but glory and honor and peace to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek:

¹¹ for there is no respect of persons with God.

¹² For as many as have sinned without the law shall also perish without the law: and as many as have sinned under the law shall be judged by the law;

¹³ for not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified;

¹⁴ (for when Gentiles that have not the law do by nature the things of the law, these, not having the law, are the law unto themselves;

¹⁵ in that they show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness therewith, and their thoughts one with another accusing or else excusing them);

¹⁰ But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:

¹¹ For there is no respect of persons with God.

¹² For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

¹³ (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

¹⁴ For when the Gentiles, which have not the law, do by nature the things contained in the law, these, having not the law, are a law unto themselves:

¹⁵ Which shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts the mean while accusing or else excusing one another;)

⁶ God will pay back everyone according to what they deserve for what they have done.

⁷ Specifically, some people, by continuing to doing good things, strive to be highly honored by God DOU and to receive a life that will not end. God will reward them by enabling them to live forever.

⁸ But some people act in a selfish way and refuse to believe that what God says is true, and they do the things that God says are wrong. God will punish them very severely DOU, MTY.

⁹ He will cause everyone who habitually does evil deeds to suffer greatly, with the result that they will become severely distressed DOU. This certainly will happen to the Jews who refuse to accept God's message, because God gave them the privilege to be his special people, but it will also happen to the non-Jews.

¹⁰ But God will greatly reward spiritually MET, DOU every person who habitually does good deeds. He will certainly do this for the Jews because God chose them as his special people, but he will also do it for the non-Jews.

¹¹ God will do this fairly, because people's status does not influence him.

¹² Although non-Jews do not have the laws that God gave to Moses, all non-Jews who sin will be eternally separated from God. He will not consider whether or not they knew the laws that he gave to Moses. And all the Jews who have sinned in spite of knowing the laws that God gave to Moses will also be punished { God will also punish them}. They will be punished for disobeying God's laws.

¹³ It is right for them to be punished { God to punish them} because it is not those who merely know God's laws whom he considers to be righteous. On the contrary, it is only those who continually have obeyed all ◄of God's laws/of the laws that God gave to Moses► ◄whom God will consider righteous/whose record of sins God will erase►.

¹⁴ Whenever the non-Jews, who do not have the laws God gave to Moses, naturally obey those laws, they prove that they have a law within their own minds, even though they do not have the laws God gave to Moses.

¹⁵ They show that they know in their own minds what God commands in his laws MET, as each person in his very own conscience either accuses or excuses/defends himself concerning his own behavior.

⁶ who “will pay back to everyone according to their works:”

⁷ to those who by perseverance in well-doing seek for glory, honor, and incorruptibility, eternal life;

⁸ but to those who are self-seeking and don’t obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, will be wrath, indignation,

¹⁰ But glory and honour and peace to all whose works are good, to the Jew first and then to the Greek:

¹¹ For one man is not different from another before God.

¹² All those who have done wrong without the law will get destruction without the law: and those who have done wrong under the law will have their punishment by the law;

¹³ For it is not the hearers of the law who will be judged as having righteousness before God, but only the doers:

¹⁴ For when the Gentiles without the law have a natural desire to do the things in the law, they are a law to themselves;

¹⁵ Because the work of the law is seen in their hearts, their sense of right and wrong giving witness to it, while their minds are at one time judging them and at another giving them approval;

⁶ who shall render to each according to his works:

⁷ to them who, in patient continuance of good works, seek for glory and honour and incorruptibility, life eternal.

⁸ But to those that are contentious, and are disobedient to the truth, but obey unrighteousness, there shall be wrath and indignation,

⁹ tribulation and distress, on every soul of man that works evil, both of Jew first, and of Greek;

¹⁰ but glory and honour and peace to every one that works good, both to Jew first and to Greek:

¹¹ for there is no acceptance of persons with God.

¹² For as many as have sinned without law shall perish also without law; and as many as have sinned under law shall be judged by law,

¹³ (for not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

¹⁴ For when those of the nations, which have no law, practise by nature the things of the law, these, having no law, are a law to themselves;

¹⁵ who shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their thoughts accusing or else excusing themselves between themselves;)

⁶ Who will render to every man according to his works.

⁷ To them indeed, who according to patience in good work, seek glory and honour and incorruption, eternal life:

⁸ But to them that are contentious, and who obey not the truth, but give credit to iniquity, wrath and indignation.

⁹ Tribulation and anguish upon every soul of man that worketh evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Greek.

¹⁰ But glory, and honour, and peace to every one that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

¹¹ For there is no respect of persons with God.

¹² For whosoever have sinned without the law, shall perish without the law; and whosoever have sinned in the law, shall be judged by the law.

¹³ For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.

¹⁴ For when the Gentiles, who have not the law, do by nature those things that are of the law; these having not the law are a law to themselves:

¹⁵ Who shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness to them, and their thoughts between themselves accusing, or also defending one another,

⁶ who “will recompense to each one according to his works”:

⁷ to those who by the endurance of good works are seeking glory and honor and incorruption—eternal life.

⁸ But to those who are contentious, and who disobey the truth, but obey unrighteousness—indignation and wrath,

⁹ tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that works evil, of the Jew first and also of the Greek;

¹⁰ but glory, honor, and peace to everyone that works good, both to the Jew first and to the Greek.

¹¹ For there is no partiality with God.

¹² For all who have sinned without the law shall also perish without the law, and all who have sinned under the law shall be judged by the law

¹³ (for it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified;

¹⁴ for whenever Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, these, not having the law, are a law unto themselves,

¹⁵ who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience witnessing with them, and among themselves their thoughts accuse or even defend them),

⁶ who will repay each one according to his works:

⁷ to those who seek for glory, honor and incorruption, by persevering in doing good—eternal life;

⁸ but to those who, due to self-seeking, are actually disobeying the truth (while obeying the unrighteousness)—fury and wrath,

⁹ tribulation and anguish, upon every human soul who works at the evil, whether Jew (first) or Greek;

¹⁰ but glory, honor and peace to everyone who works the good, whether Jew (first) or Greek.

¹¹ Now there is no favoritism with God.

¹² For as many as have sinned without law will also perish without law; while as many as have sinned with law will be judged by law.

¹³ For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified

¹⁴ (indeed, whenever the ethnic nations that do not have law do by nature the things of the law, these, although not having law, are a law to themselves;

¹⁵ who show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witness, and their reasonings among themselves accusing or even excusing)

⁶ God will make sure everyone receives what they deserve according to what they've done.

⁷ Those who have kept on trying to do what is good and right will receive glory and honor, immortality and eternal life.

⁸ But those who think only of themselves, rejecting the truth and deliberately choosing to do evil, will receive punishment and furious hostility.

⁹ Everyone who does evil will have trouble and suffering—the Jewish people first, and the foreigners too.

¹⁰ But everyone who does good will have glory, honor, and peace—the Jewish people first, and the foreigners too.

¹¹ God has no favorites.

¹² Those who sin even though they don't have the written law are still lost, while those who sin that do have the written law will be condemned by that law.

¹³ Just listening to what the law says doesn't make you right in God's sight. It's those who do what the law says who are made right.

¹⁴ The foreigners don't have the written law, but when they instinctively do what it says, they are following the law even without having the written law.

¹⁵ In this way they show how the law works that's written in their minds. As they think about what they're doing, their conscience either accuses them for doing wrong or defends them for doing what is good and right.

⁶ Who wil reward euery man according to his woorkes:

⁷ That is, to them which through patience in well doing, seeke glorie, and honour, and immortalitie, euerlasting life:

⁸ But vnto them that are contentious and disobey the trueth, and obey vnrighteousnesse, shalbe indignation and wrath.

⁹ Tribulation and anguish shalbe vpon the soule of euery man that doeth euill: of the Iewe first, and also of the Grecian.

¹⁰ But to euery man that doeth good, shalbe glory, and honour, and peace: to the Iew first, and also to the Grecian.

¹¹ For there is no respect of persons with God.

¹² For as many as haue sinned without the Lawe, shall perish also without the Lawe: and as many as haue sinned in the Lawe, shall be iudged by the Lawe,

¹³ (For the hearers of the Lawe are not righteous before God: but the doers of the Lawe shalbe iustified.

¹⁴ For when the Gentiles which haue not the Lawe, doe by nature, the things conteined in the Lawe, they hauing not the Lawe, are a Lawe vnto themselues,

¹⁵ Which shew the effect of the Lawe written in their hearts, their conscience also bearing witnes, and their thoughts accusing one another, or excusing,)

⁶ who will render to every man according to his deeds:

¹⁵ since they show that what the Law requireth is written in their hearts, their conscience bearing witness, and their thoughts in turn accusing or defending them;—

⁶ for he will give to everyone what their actions deserve.

⁷ To those who, by perseverance in doing good, aim at glory, honour, and all that is imperishable, he will give immortal life;

⁸ while as to those who are factious, and disobedient to truth but obedient to evil, wrath and anger, distress and despair,

⁹ will fall on every human being who persists in wrong-doing — on the Jew first, but also on the Greek.

¹⁰ But there will be glory, honour, and peace for everyone who does right — for the Jew first, but also for the Greek,

⁶ God will give each of us the right pay for whatever we have done.

⁷ Some people keep on doing good things, and later God will be good to them. They are the people that want to please God. They listen to him and they do good things so that he will be happy with them. Later he will give them life that never ends.

⁸ But he will get really angry with selfish other people that don’t want to know the true story but just want to do bad things.

⁹ And God will not treat one kind of people any better than all the others. It will be the same for Jewish people as it will be for those people that are not Jewish. God will punish everyone that does bad things, whether they are Jewish people or not. They will all get very big trouble anyway. But God will do good to those that do good things, whether they are Jewish people or not. God will make them great anyway. They will feel really good and everybody will respect them.

¹² God gave the law to the Jewish people, so they know that law, and whenever they do wrong God will punish them the way that law says. And the same too for people that are not Jewish, whenever they do wrong he will punish them.

¹³ It doesn’t matter whether you know that law or not, if you do good things God will tell you, “You are all right.”

¹⁴ There are people that aren’t Jewish, but they do good things just like the law says. They don’t have that law but they know in their minds what is right and what is wrong.

¹⁵ They show that God wrote his law inside them. They feel bad whenever they do something that is wrong, but sometimes they do something that is right, and it makes them feel good.

⁶ which will rewarde every man accordinge to his dedes:

⁷ that is to saye prayse honoure and immortalite to them which cotinue in good doynge and seke eternall lyfe.

⁸ But vnto them that are rebellious and disobey the trueth yet folowe iniquytie shall come indignacion and wrath

⁹ tribulacion and anguysshe vpon the soule of every man that doth evyll: of the Iewe fyrst and also of the gentyll.

¹⁰ To every man that doth good shall come prayse honoure and peace to the Iewe fyrst and also to the gentyll.

¹¹ For ther is no parcialyte with god.

¹² But whosoever hath synned with out lawe shall perisshe with out lawe. And as many as haue synned vnder the lawe shalbe iudged by the lawe.

¹³ For before god they are not ryghteous which heare the lawe: but the doers of the lawe shalbe iustified.

¹⁴ For if the gentyls which have no lawe do of nature the thynges contayned in the lawe: then they havynge no lawe are a lawe vnto them selves

¹⁵ which shewe the dede of the lawe wrytten in their hertes: whyll their conscience beareth witnes vnto them and also their thoughtes accusynge one another or excusynge

⁶ He will pay back to every person according to his actions:

⁷ to those who according to consistent, good actions have sought praise, honor, and incorruptibility, he will give eternal life.

⁸ But to those who are self-seeking, who disobey the truth but obey unrighteousness, wrath and fierce anger will come.

⁹ God will bring tribulation and distress on every human soul that has practiced evil, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

¹⁰ But praise, honor, and peace will come to everyone who practices good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

¹¹ For there is no favoritism with God.

¹² For as many as have sinned without the law will also perish without the law, and as many as have sinned with respect to the law will be judged by the law.

¹³ For it is not the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but it is the doers of the law who will be justified.

⁸ but to those who are self-seeking and don’t obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, will be wrath, indignation,

⁹ oppression, and anguish on every soul of man who does evil, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

¹⁰ But glory, honour, and peace go to every man who does good, to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

¹¹ For there is no partiality with God.

¹² For as many as have sinned without the law will also perish without the law. As many as have sinned under the law will be judged by the law.

¹³ For it isn’t the hearers of the law who are righteous before God, but the doers of the law will be justified

¹⁴ (for when Gentiles who don’t have the law do by nature the things of the law, these, not having the law, are a law to themselves,

¹⁵ in that they show the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience testifying with them, and their thoughts amongst themselves accusing or else excusing them)

⁶ that shall yield to each man after his works;

⁷ soothly to them that be by patience of good work, glory, and honour, and uncorruption, to them that seek everlasting life;

⁸ but to them that be of strife, and that assent not to truth, but believe to wickedness, wrath and indignation,

⁹ tribulation and anguish, into each soul of man that worketh evil, to the Jew first, and to the Greek;

¹⁰ but glory, and honour, and peace, to each man that worketh good thing, to the Jew first, and to the Greek.

¹¹ For acception of persons, that is, to put one before another without desert, is not with God.

¹² For whoever have sinned without the law, shall perish without the law; and whoever have sinned in the law, they shall be deemed by the law.

¹³ For the hearers of the law be not just with God, but the doers of the law shall be made just.

¹⁴ For when heathen men that have not law, do kindly those things that be of the law, they not having such manner of law, be law to themselves,

¹⁵ that show the work of the law written in their hearts. For the conscience of them yieldeth to them a witnessing betwixt themselves of thoughts that be accusing or defending,

⁶ that shall yield to each man after his works;

⁷ soothly to them that be by patience of good work, glory, and honour, and uncorruption, to them that seek everlasting life; (truly to those who patiently do good works, and seek glory, and honour, and incorruption, he shall give eternal life;)

⁸ but to them that be of strife (or but to those who argue and fight), and that assent not to (the) truth, but believe to wickedness, wrath and indignation,

⁹ tribulation and anguish, into each soul of man that worketh evil, to the Jew first, and to the Greek; (he shall give troubles and anguish, yea, unto each person who worketh evil, to the Jew first, and to the Greek;)

¹⁰ but glory, and honour, and peace, to each man that worketh good thing(s), (or to each person who doeth good things), to the Jew first, and to the Greek.

¹¹ For acception of persons, that is, to put one before another without desert, (or without deserving it), is not with God. (For favouring people is not God’s way.)

¹² For whoever have sinned without the law, shall perish without the law; and whoever have sinned in the law, they shall be deemed by the law. (For whoever have sinned without the Law, shall perish without the Law; and whoever have sinned in the Law, they shall be judged by the Law.)

¹³ For the hearers of the law be not just with God, but the doers of the law shall be made just.

¹⁴ For when heathen men that have not (the) law, do kindly those things that be of the law, (or For when the Gentiles who do not have the Law, do by kind, or naturally, those things that be in the Law), they not having such manner of law, be (a) law (un)to themselves,

¹⁵ that show the work of the law written in their hearts (or who show the work of the Law written on their hearts). For the conscience of them yieldeth to them a witnessing (or a testimony) betwixt themselves of thoughts that be accusing or defending,

⁶ who shall render to each according to his works;

⁷ to those, indeed, who in continuance of a good work, do seek glory, and honour, and incorruptibility — life age-during;

⁸ and to those contentious, and disobedient, indeed, to the truth, and obeying the unrighteousness — indignation and wrath,

⁹ tribulation and distress, upon every soul of man that is working the evil, both of Jew first, and of Greek;

¹⁰ and glory, and honour, and peace, to every one who is working the good, both to Jew first, and to Greek.

¹¹ For there is no acceptance of faces with God,

¹² for as many as without law did sin, without law also shall perish, and as many as did sin in law, through law shall be judged,

¹³ for not the hearers of the law are righteous before God, but the doers of the law shall be declared righteous: —

¹⁴ For, when nations that have not a law, by nature may do the things of the law, these not having a law — to themselves are a law;

¹⁵ who do shew the work of the law written in their hearts, their conscience also witnessing with them, and between one another the thoughts accusing or else defending,
