Romans 14:8-19 in English

⁸ For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; or whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s.

⁹ For to this end Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord of both the dead and the living.

¹⁰ But thou, why dost thou judge thy brother? or thou again, why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment-seat of God.

¹¹ For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, to me every knee shall bow, And every tongue shall confess to God.

¹² So then each one of us shall give account of himself to God.

¹³ Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge ye this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock in his brother’s way, or an occasion of falling.

¹⁴ I know, and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself: save that to him who accounteth anything to be unclean, to him it is unclean.

¹⁵ For if because of meat thy brother is grieved, thou walkest no longer in love. Destroy not with thy meat him for whom Christ died.

¹⁶ Let not then your good be evil spoken of:

¹⁷ for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ For he that herein serveth Christ is well-pleasing to God, and approved of men.

¹⁹ So then let us follow after things which make for peace, and things whereby we may edify one another.

⁸ While we live, it is the Lord whom we belong to and should be trying to please, and not just ourselves. And when we die, it is the Lord whom we should be trying to please. So, while we live and also when we die, we should be trying to please the Lord to whom we belong, not just ourselves,

⁹ because the very purpose for which Christ died and became alive again is that he might be Lord whom all people should try to please, both of those who have already died and of those who are still living.

¹⁰ ◄It is disgraceful that you who practice certain religious regulations say that God will punish your fellow believers who do not practice those regulations!/Why do you who practice certain religious regulations say God will punish your fellow believers who do not practice such regulations?► RHQ I say this because the time will come when all of us will stand before God in order that he will say whether or not he approves MTY of what we have done. So you who do not practice such regulations, ◄should not despise your fellow believers who practice them!/why do you despise your fellow believers who practice them?► RHQ

¹¹ We know this because it is written { a prophet/Isaiah wrote} what God has said: Everyone will bow down before me! That is as certain as the fact that I live IDM! Everyone SYN will acknowledge that because I am God, I have the right to judge and punish people.

¹² So it is clear that it is God who will decide whether or not he approves of what each of us has done.

¹³ Since it is God who will judge everyone, we must stop saying that God should punish some of our fellow believers! Instead, you/we should decide that you/we will not do anything that would be an example that might cause fellow believers to stop trusting in God DOU.

¹⁴ I am absolutely certain DOU because of my close relationship with (OR, my belonging to) the Lord Jesus that there is nothing that by itself is wrong to eat. But if people think it is wrong to eat something, then to them it is wrong to eat it. So you should not encourage them to eat it.

¹⁵ If you eat food MET that anyone for whom Christ died thinks that it is wrong to eat, that person might be encouraged { you might be encouraging that person} to do something that he believes is wrong. As a result, you might cause that fellow believer to stop trusting in God. In that way he would be ruined spiritually just because you have stopped behaving as one who loves others should behave!

¹⁶ Similarly, do not do something that you think is good if, as a result, your fellow believer would sin and then others would speak evil of you who say that you are Christians.

¹⁷ Letting God rule our lives MET does not mean that we must obey regulations about eating or drinking something! Instead, it means we must live righteously, act peacefully towards others, and be joyful by the power of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ Those who serve Christ by acting in such ways please God, and others will also respect them.

¹⁹ So we should always eagerly try to live in a way that will cause peace among fellow Christians, and we should try to do what will help each other to mature spiritually.

⁸ For if we live, we live to the Lord. Or if we die, we die to the Lord. If therefore we live or die, we are the Lord’s.

⁸ As long as we have life we are living to the Lord; or if we give up our life it is to the Lord; so if we are living, or if our life comes to an end, we are the Lord's.

⁹ And for this purpose Christ went into death and came back again, that he might be the Lord of the dead and of the living.

¹⁰ But you, why do you make yourself your brother's judge? or again, why have you no respect for your brother? because we will all have to take our place before God as our judge.

¹¹ For it is said in the holy Writings, By my life, says the Lord, to me every knee will be bent, and every tongue will give worship to God.

¹² So every one of us will have to give an account of himself to God.

¹³ Then let us not be judges of one another any longer: but keep this in mind, that no man is to make it hard for his brother, or give him cause for doubting.

¹⁴ I am conscious of this, and am certain in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean in itself; but for the man in whose opinion it is unclean, for him it is unclean.

¹⁵ And if because of food your brother is troubled, then you are no longer going on in the way of love. Do not let your food be destruction to him for whom Christ went into death.

¹⁶ Let it not be possible for men to say evil about your good:

¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not food and drink, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ And he who in these things is Christ's servant, is pleasing to God and has the approval of men.

¹⁹ So then, let us go after the things which make peace, and the things by which we may be a help to one another.

⁸ For both if we should live, it is to the Lord we live; and if we should die, it is to the Lord we die: both if we should live then, and if we should die, we are the Lord's.

⁹ For to this end Christ has died and lived again, that he might rule over both dead and living.

¹⁰ But thou, why judgest thou thy brother? or again, thou, why dost thou make little of thy brother? for we shall all be placed before the judgment-seat of God.

¹¹ For it is written, I live, saith the Lord, that to me shall bow every knee, and every tongue shall confess to God.

¹² So then each of us shall give an account concerning himself to God.

¹³ Let us no longer therefore judge one another; but judge ye this rather, not to put a stumbling-block or a fall-trap before his brother.

¹⁴ I know, and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself; except to him who reckons anything to be unclean, to that man it is unclean.

¹⁵ For if on account of meat thy brother is grieved, thou walkest no longer according to love. Destroy not him with thy meat for whom Christ has died.

⁹ For to this end Christ died and rose and lived again, so that He might be Lord both of the dead and the living.

¹⁰ But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you despise your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.

¹¹ For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to Me, and every tongue shall confess to God.”

¹⁵ But if your brother is grieved on account of your food, you are no longer walking according to love. Do not destroy with your food the one on behalf of whom Christ died.

¹⁶ Therefore do not let your good be slandered.

¹⁸ For he that serves Christ in these things is well pleasing to God and approved by men.

¹³ Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another, but rather resolve this: not to put a stumbling block or pitfall in a brother's way.

¹⁴ I know and have been convinced by Sovereign Jesus that nothing is unclean of itself (still, to someone who considers a thing to be unclean, to him it is unclean),

¹⁵ but if your brother is offended because of food, you are no longer walking according to love. Do not, with your food, ruin someone for whom Christ died.

¹⁶ So do not let your good be slandered;

¹⁷ because the Kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ For whoever serves the Christ in these things is satisfying to God and approved by men.

¹⁹ So then, let us pursue the things that promote peace and the things by which one may edify another.

⁸ If we live, we live for the Lord, or if we die, we die for the Lord—so whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord.

⁹ This was the reason Christ died and came back to life—so that he could be the Lord of both the dead and the living.

¹⁰ So why do you criticize your fellow-believer? Why do you despise your fellow-believer? For all of us will stand before God's throne of judgment.

¹¹ For the Scriptures say, “‘As surely as I am alive,’ the Lord says, ‘Every knee shall bow before me, and every tongue will declare that I am God.’”

¹² So every one of us will have to explain ourselves to God.

¹³ Therefore let's not judge each other anymore, but decide to do this instead—we won't put obstacles in the way of fellow-believers, or cause them to fall.

¹⁴ I'm certain—persuaded by the Lord Jesus—that nothing in itself is ceremonially unclean. But if someone considers it to be unclean, to them it is unclean.

¹⁵ If your fellow-believer is hurt by you over matters of food, then you're no longer behaving in a loving way. Don't destroy someone for whom Christ died by the food you choose to eat.

¹⁶ Don't let the good things you do be misrepresented—

¹⁷ for God's kingdom is not about eating and drinking, but about living right, having peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ Anyone who serves Christ in this way pleases God, and is appreciated by others.

¹⁹ So let's pursue the path of peace, and find ways to encourage each other.

⁸ For whether wee liue, we liue vnto the Lord: or whether we die, we die vnto the Lord: whether we liue therefore, or die, we are the Lords.

⁹ For Christ therefore died and rose againe, and reuiued, that he might be Lord both of the dead and the quicke.

¹⁰ But why doest thou condemne thy brother? or why doest thou despise thy brother? for we shall all appeare before the iudgement seate of Christ.

¹¹ For it is written, I liue, sayth the Lord, and euery knee shall bowe to me, and all tongues shall confesse vnto God.

¹² So then euery one of vs shall giue accounts of himselfe to God.

¹³ Let vs not therefore iudge one another any more: but vse your iudgement rather in this, that no man put an occasion to fall, or a stumbling blocke before his brother.

¹⁴ I know, and am perswaded through the Lord Iesus, that there is nothing vncleane of it selfe: but vnto him that iudgeth any thing to be vncleane, to him it is vncleane.

¹⁵ But if thy brother be grieued for the meate, nowe walkest thou not charitably: destroy not him with thy meate, for whome Christ dyed.

¹⁶ Cause not your commoditie to be euill spoken of.

¹⁷ For the kingdome of God, is not meate nor drinke, but righteousnes, and peace, and ioye in the holy Ghost.

¹⁸ For whosoeuer in these things serueth Christ, is acceptable vnto God, and is approoued of men.

¹⁹ Let vs then follow those things which concerne peace, and wherewith one may edifie another.

¹⁵ For if on account of food thy brother is made to mourn, thou art no longer walking according to love. Do not with thy food destroy him for whom Christ died.

¹⁶ Let not then the blessing which ye enjoy be evil spoken of.

¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not food and drink, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit;

¹⁸ for he who in this matter serveth Christ is well-pleasing to God, and approved by men.

¹⁹ Let us then strive to promote peace, and the edification of each other.

⁸ for, if we live, our life is for the Master, and, if we die, our death is for the Master. Whether, then, we live or die we belong to the Master.

⁹ The purpose for which Christ died and came back to life was this — that he might be Lord over both the dead and the living.

¹⁰ I would ask the one ‘Why do you judge other followers of the Lord?’ And I would ask the other ‘Why do you despise them?’ For we will all stand before the court of God.

¹¹ For scripture says — ‘“As surely as I live,” says the Lord, “every knee will bend before me and every tongue will praise God.”’

¹² So, then, each one of us will have to render account of himself to God.

¹³ Let us, then, cease to judge one another. Rather let this be your resolve — never to place a stumbling-block or an obstacle in the way of a fellow follower of the Lord.

¹⁴ Through my union with the Lord Jesus, I know and am persuaded that nothing is defiling in itself. A thing is ‘defiling’ only to the person who holds it to be so.

¹⁵ If, for the sake of what you eat, you wound your fellow follower's feelings, your life has ceased to be ruled by love. Do not, by what you eat, ruin someone for whom Christ died!

¹⁶ Do not let what is right for you become a matter of reproach.

¹⁷ For the kingdom of God does not consist of eating and drinking, but of righteousness and peace and gladness through the presence of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ The person who serves the Christ in this way pleases God, and wins the approval of their fellows.

¹⁹ Therefore our efforts should be directed towards all that makes for peace and the mutual building up of character.

⁸ for, if we live, our life is for the Master, and, if we die, our death is for the Master. Whether, then, we live or die we belong to the Master.

⁹ Remember that Jesus died and then became alive again. So now he is the good boss of people that are alive and also the boss of people that are dead.

¹⁰ So then it is God, not you, that can tell other Christians that they are wrong. You can’t think that you are better than any other Christian. No. We’ve all got to stand in front of God one day. Then God will tell each of us the things that we did right and the things that we did wrong.

¹¹ Like we read in God book, “God says, ‘This is for sure. Everybody will get down on their knees in front of me to give respect to me. And everybody will say that I’m really good, the only great God.’”

¹² This means that one day every one of us will have to face God and tell him all about everything that we ever did.

¹³ So we have to stop being like judges. We have to stop telling each other, “You are wrong.” Instead of that we have to make sure that we help other Christians, and make sure we don’t do anything that makes them go wrong.

¹⁴ I know, and I’m really sure, that our leader, Jesus, taught like this, he said, “There is nothing wrong at all with any food.” But somebody might believe that it is wrong to eat some sort of food. Alright, it is wrong for that person to eat it, but not for anybody else.

¹⁵ But if you know something is all right, so you think you will eat it, and if you know that another Christian will get upset if you eat it, then leave it. Don’t eat it. If you love other Christians you will not do things that hurt them. Remember, Jesus Christ died for those people, so don’t eat that food. You know is good but leave it anyway. Then nobody will blame you.

¹⁷ We belong to God. He doesn’t give us rules about the things that we can’t eat or drink, but he wants us to have his spirit in us so that we do the things that are right, and we will always be calm and settled, and always be happy. If we live like this as we work for Jesus Christ, then we make God happy. And other people are happy with us too.

¹⁹ So we have to do everything we can to help each other. We have to try to agree with each other and to help each other get strong.

⁸ Yf we lyve we lyve to be at the lordes will. And yf we dye we dye at the lordes will. Whether we lyve therfore or dye we are the lordes.

⁹ For Christ therfore dyed and rose agayne and revived that he myght be lorde both of deed and quicke.

¹⁰ But why doest thou then iudge thy brother? Other why doest thou despyse thy brother? We shall all be brought before the iudgement seate of Christ.

¹¹ For it is written: as truely as I lyve sayth the lorde all knees shall bowe to me and all tonges shall geve a knowledge to God.

¹² So shall every one of vs geve accomptes of him selfe to God.

¹³ Let vs not therfore iudge one another eny more. But iudge this rather that no man put a stomblynge blocke or an occasion to faule in his brothers waye.

¹⁴ For I knowe and am full certified in the Lorde Iesus that ther is nothinge comen of it selfe: but vnto him that iudgeth it to be comen: to him is it comen.

¹⁵ If thy brother be greved with thy meate now walkest thou not charitablye. Destroye not him with thy meate for whom Christ dyed.

¹⁶ Cause not youre treasure to be evyll spoken of.

¹⁷ For the kyngdome of God is not meate and drinke: but rightewesnes peace and ioye in the holy goost.

¹⁸ For whosoever in these thinges serveth Christ pleaseth well God and is commended of men.

¹⁹ Let vs folowe tho thinges which make for peace and thinges wherwith one maye edyfie another.

⁸ For if we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. Then whether we live or die, we are the Lord's.

⁹ For to this purpose Christ died and lived again, that he might be Lord of both the dead and those who are living.

¹⁰ But you, why do you judge your brother? And you, why do you despise your brother? For we will all stand before the judgment seat of God.

¹¹ For it is written, “As I live,” says the Lord, “to me every knee will bend, and every tongue will give praise to God.”

¹² So then, each one of us will give an account of himself to God.

¹³ Therefore, let us no longer judge one another, but instead decide this, that no one will place a stumbling block or a snare for his brother.

¹⁴ I know and am persuaded in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean by itself. Only for him who considers anything to be unclean, for him it is unclean.

¹⁵ If because of food your brother is hurt, you are no longer walking in love. Do not destroy with your food one for whom Christ died.

¹⁶ So do not allow what you consider to be good to be spoken of as evil.

¹⁷ For the kingdom of God is not about food and drink, but about righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit.

¹⁸ For the one who serves Christ in this way is acceptable to God and approved by people.

¹⁹ So then, let us pursue the things of peace and the things that build up one another.

⁸ For if we live, we live to the Lord. Or if we die, we die to the Lord. If therefore we live or die, we are the Lord’s.

(And if thy brother be grieved in his conscience over food, now thou walkest not with love. Do not because of thy food, or by thy eating, destroy him for whom the Messiah died.)

¹⁹ Therefore (pur)sue we those things that be of peace, and keep we together those things that be of edification. (And so follow those things that be about peace, and hold we together those things that be for our edification.)

⁸ for both, if we may live, to the Lord we live; if also we may die, to the Lord we die; both then if we may live, also if we may die, we are the Lord's;

⁹ for because of this Christ both died and rose again, and lived again, that both of dead and of living he may be Lord.

¹⁰ And thou, why dost thou judge thy brother? or again, thou, why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand at the tribunal of the Christ;

¹³ no longer, therefore, may we judge one another, but this judge ye rather, not to put a stumbling-stone before the brother, or an offence.

¹⁴ I have known, and am persuaded, in the Lord Jesus, that nothing is unclean of itself, except to him who is reckoning anything to be unclean — to that one it is unclean;

¹⁵ and if through victuals thy brother is grieved, no more dost thou walk according to love; do not with thy victuals destroy that one for whom Christ died.

¹⁶ Let not, then, your good be evil spoken of,

¹⁷ for the reign of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness, and peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit;

¹⁸ for he who in these things is serving the Christ, is acceptable to God and approved of men.
