Romans 11:6-9 in English

⁶ But if it is by grace, it is no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace.

⁷ What then? That which Israel seeketh for, that he obtained not; but the election obtained it, and the rest were hardened:

⁸ according as it is written, God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, unto this very day.

⁹ And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, And a stumblingblock, and a recompense unto them:

⁶ And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

⁷ What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded

⁸ (According as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.

⁹ And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:

⁶ But if it is by grace, it is no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace.

⁷ What then? That which Israel seeketh for, that he obtained not; but the election obtained it, and the rest were hardened:

⁸ according as it is written, God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, unto this very day.

⁹ And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, And a stumblingblock, and a recompense unto them:

⁶ Since it is because he acts kindly toward those whom he chooses, it is not because they have done good things that he has chosen them. If God chose people because they did good deeds, then it would not be because he was acting toward them in a way that they did not deserve.

⁷ Since God chose only some people of Israel, this is what I conclude: RHQ Most of the people of Israel did not find the way for him to erase the record of their sins, even though some of them were earnestly looking for it. The people of Israel whom God had chosen found it, but the rest of them were { God} made spiritually insensitive/unresponsive.

⁸ Our fellow Jews are just like the ones about whom Isaiah wrote, God ◄caused their senses to be dull/made them unable to think clearly►. Up to this very day, they have eyes but they cannot see spiritually MET. They have ears, but they cannot understand spiritually what they hear.

⁹ And they remind me of what King David said, when he asked God to cause his enemies' senses to be dull MET, Make them stupid MTY, like animals that are caught in snares! May they feel secure because of the things that they enjoy but which will catch them like a trap DOU, MET, with the result that you will destroy them.

⁶ And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

⁷ What then? That which Israel seeks for, that he didn’t obtain, but the chosen ones obtained it, and the rest were hardened.

⁸ According as it is written, “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, to this very day.”

⁹ And David says, Let their table be made a net for taking them, and a stone in their way, and a punishment:

⁶ But if by grace, no longer of works: since otherwise grace is no more grace.

⁷ What is it then? What Israel seeks for, that he has not obtained; but the election has obtained, and the rest have been blinded,

⁸ according as it is written, God has given to them a spirit of slumber, eyes not to see, and ears not to hear, unto this day.

⁹ And David says, Let their table be for a snare, and for a gin, and for a fall-trap, and for a recompense to them:

⁶ And if by grace, it is not now by works: otherwise grace is no more grace.

⁷ What then? That which Israel sought, he hath not obtained: but the election hath obtained it; and the rest have been blinded.

⁸ As it is written: God hath given them the spirit of insensibility; eyes that they should not see; and ears that they should not hear, until this present day.

⁹ And David saith: Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling block, and a recompense unto them.

⁶ And if by grace, it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

⁷ What then? Israel has not obtained what it seeks; but the elect have obtained it, and the rest were blinded.

⁸ Just as it is written: “God has given them a spirit of stupor, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear, down to this very day.”

⁹ And David says: “Let their table become a snare and a trap, a stumbling block and a recompense to them.

⁶ Now if by grace, it is no longer from works; otherwise the grace is no longer grace. But if from works, it is no longer grace; otherwise the work is no longer work.

⁷ What then? What Israel is seeking, this it did not obtain; but the election did obtain it, while the rest were dulled.

⁸ Just as it is written: “God gave them a spirit of stupor, eyes that were not to see and ears that were not to hear, to this very day.”

⁹ And David says: “Let their table be made into a snare and into a trap, into a stumbling block and into a retribution to them.

⁶ And since it's through grace, then clearly it's not based on what people do, otherwise grace wouldn't be grace!

⁷ So what do we conclude? That the people of Israel didn't achieve what they were striving for—only the chosen, while the rest became hard-hearted.

⁸ As Scripture says, “God dulled their minds so their eyes could not see and their ears could not hear, to this very day.”

⁹ David adds, “May their feasts become a trap for them, a net that catches them, a temptation that brings punishment.

⁶ And if it be of grace, it is no more of workes: or els were grace no more grace: but if it be of workes, it is no more grace: or els were worke no more worke.

⁷ What then? Israel hath not obtained that he sought: but the election hath obteined it, and the rest haue bene hardened,

⁸ According as it is written, God hath giuen them the spirit of slumber: eyes that they should not see, and eares that they should not heare vnto this day.

⁹ And Dauid sayth, Let their table be made a snare, and a net, and a stumbling blocke, euen for a recompence vnto them.

⁶ And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work.

⁷ What then? Israel hath not obtained that which he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded,

⁸ (according as it is written, God hath given them the spirit of slumber, eyes that they should not see, and ears that they should not hear;) unto this day.

⁹ And David saith, Let their table be made a snare, and a trap, and a stumblingblock, and a recompence unto them:

⁶ And if it is by grace, it is no longer on account of works; otherwise grace ceaseth to be grace; but if it is of works, there is then no grace; otherwise work ceaseth to be work. How is it then?

⁷ What Israel seeketh after, that Israel did not obtain; but the elect obtained it, and the rest were hardened;

⁸ as it is written: “God gave them a spirit of slumber, eyes that were not to see, and ears that were not to hear, unto this day.”

⁹ And David saith, “Let their table become a snare, and a trap, and a stumbling-block, and a recompense to them;

⁶ But if in love, then it is not as a result of obedience. Otherwise love would cease to be love.

⁷ What follows from this? Why, that Israel as a nation failed to secure what it was seeking, while those whom God selected did secure it.

⁸ The rest grew callous; as scripture says — ‘God has given them a deadness of mind — eyes that are not to see and ears that are not to hear — and it is so to this very day.’

⁹ David, too, says — ‘May their feasts prove a snare and a trap to them — a hindrance and a retribution;

⁶ But if in love, then it is not as a result of obedience. Otherwise love would cease to be love.

⁷ What follows from this? Why, that Israel as a nation failed to secure what it was seeking, while those whom God selected did secure it.

⁸ The rest grew callous; as scripture says — ‘God has given them a deadness of mind — eyes that are not to see and ears that are not to hear — and it is so to this very day.’

⁹ David, too, says — ‘May their feasts prove a snare and a trap to them — a hindrance and a retribution;

⁶ Yf it be of grace the is it not of workes. For then were grace no moare grace. Yf it be of workes then is it no moare grace. For then were deservyng no lenger deservynge.

⁷ What then? Israel hath not obtayned that that he sought. No but yet the election hath obtayned it. The remnaunt are blynded

⁸ accordynge as it is written: God hath geven the the sprete of vnquyetnes: eyes that they shuld not se and eares that they shuld not heare even vnto this daye.

⁹ And David sayth: Let their table be made a snare to take them with all and an occasion to faule and a rewarde vnto them.

⁶ But if it is by grace, it is no longer by works. Otherwise grace would no longer be grace.

⁷ What then? The thing that Israel was seeking, it did not obtain, but the chosen obtained it, and the rest were hardened.

⁸ It is just as it is written: “God has given them a spirit of dullness, eyes so that they should not see, and ears so that they should not hear, to this very day.”

⁹ Then David says, “Let their table become a net and a trap, a stumbling block and a retribution for them.

⁶ And if by grace, then it is no longer of works; otherwise grace is no longer grace. But if it is of works, it is no longer grace; otherwise work is no longer work.

⁷ What then? What Israel doth seek after, this it did not obtain, and the chosen did obtain, and the rest were hardened,

⁸ according as it hath been written, 'God gave to them a spirit of deep sleep, eyes not to see, and ears not to hear,' — unto this very day,

⁹ and David saith, 'Let their table become for a snare, and for a trap, and for a stumbling-block, and for a recompense to them;
