Romans 11:14-18 in English

¹⁴ if by any means I may provoke to jealousy them that are my flesh, and may save some of them.

¹⁵ For if the casting away of them is the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

¹⁶ And if the firstfruit is holy, so is the lump: and if the root is holy, so are the branches.

¹⁷ But if some of the branches were broken off, and thou, being a wild olive, wast grafted in among them, and didst become partaker with them of the root of the fatness of the olive tree;

¹⁸ glory not over the branches: but if thou gloriest, it is not thou that bearest the root, but the root thee.

¹⁴ If by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.

¹⁵ For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

¹⁴ But I also hope that by my labors I will make my fellow Jews ◄jealous/want what you non-Jews have►, with the result that some of them will believe and be saved.

¹⁵ God has rejected most of my fellow Jews because they refused to believe, with the result that he reconciled many other people in the world MTY to himself. But he will accept my fellow Jews again when they trust in Christ! And ◄this is what the result will be./do you know what the result will be?► RHQ It will be as though God is making them alive again after they have been dead!

¹⁶ Just like the whole lump of dough will belong to God if people offer to God MET the bread baked from the first part of it MET, so the Jews will belong to God because their ancestors belonged to God. And just like the branches of a tree will be good if the roots aregood MET, so the descendants of our great Jewish ancestors who belonged to God will also some day belong to God.

¹⁷ God has rejected many of the Jews MET, like branches of a tree are broken off { like people break off dead branches of a tree}. And each of you non-Jews whom God has accepted is like MET a branch of a wild/uncultivated olive tree that was { that someone} grafted among the branches (OR, onto one of the branches) that were left on a cultivated olive tree. God has caused you to benefit from how he blessed our(exc) first Jewish ancestors, as branches benefit from the nutritious sap from the roots of a cultivated olive tree MET.

¹⁸ However, you non-Jews must not despise the Jews whom God rejected MET, who are like the branches that were broken off from the tree If any of you wants to boast about having received blessings from God, remember this: Branches do not nourish the roots. Instead the roots nourish the branches MET. Similarly, you are blessed by God because of what you have received from the Jews! It is not what the Jews have received from you that blesses them MET!

¹⁷ But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, an olive-tree of the fields, were put in among them, and were given a part with them in the root by which the olive-tree is made fertile,

¹⁸ Do not be uplifted in pride over the branches: because it is not you who are the support of the root, but it is by the root that you are supported.

¹⁵ For if their casting away means reconciliation for the world, what will their acceptance be, if not life from the dead?

¹⁷ But if some of the branches were broken off, and you, being a wild olive tree, were grafted in among them, and became a partaker of the root and of the fatness of the olive tree,

¹⁸ do not be arrogant towards the branches. But if you are arrogant, remember that it is not you that supports the root, but the root supports you.

¹⁴ if somehow I can provoke my own people to jealousy and save some of them.

¹⁵ For if their being rejected means reconciliation for the world, what will their restoration be but life from the dead?

¹⁶ Now if the ‘firstfruit’ is holy, so is the whole batch; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.

¹⁷ Now if some of the branches were broken off, while you, being a wild olive shoot, were grafted in among them, and with them have become a partaker of the root and the rich sap of the cultivated olive,

¹⁸ do not boast against those branches (since if you do boast—it is not you who support the root but the root you).

¹⁴ that somehow I might make my people jealous and save some of them.

¹⁵ If the result of God's rejection of them is that the world becomes God's friends, the result of God's acceptance of them would be like the dead coming back to life!

¹⁶ If the first part of the bread dough given as an offering is holy, then so is all the rest; if the roots of a tree are holy, then so are the branches.

¹⁷ Now if some of the branches have been broken off, and you—a wild olive shoot—have been grafted in, and have shared with them the benefit of nourishment from the olive tree's roots,

¹⁸ then you shouldn't look down on the other branches. If you're tempted to boast, remember it's not you who are supporting the roots, but the roots that are supporting you.

¹⁴ To trie if by any meanes I might prouoke them of my flesh to follow them, and might saue some of them.

¹⁵ For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiuing be, but life from the dead?

¹⁶ For if the first fruites be holy, so is the whole lumpe: and if the roote be holy, so are the branches.

¹⁷ And though some of the branches be broken off, and thou being a wilde Oliue tree, wast graft in for them, and made partaker of the roote, and fatnesse of the Oliue tree.

¹⁸ Boast not thy selfe against the branches: and if thou boast thy selfe, thou bearest not the roote, but the roote thee.

¹⁴ if by any means I may provoke to emulation them which are my flesh, and might save some of them.

¹⁵ For if the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, but life from the dead?

¹⁷ And if some of the branches have been broken off, and thou, a wild olive, hast been grafted in among them, and become a partaker with them of the root and fatness of the olive-tree,

¹⁸ boast not over the branches; for if thou boast, thou dost not bear the root, but the root thee.

¹⁴ Being myself an apostle to the Gentiles, I exalt my office, in the hope that I may stir my countrymen to rivalry, and so save some of them.

¹⁵ For, if their being cast aside has meant the reconciliation of the world, what will their reception mean, but life from the dead?

¹⁶ If the first handful of dough in holy, so is the whole mass; and if the root is holy, so are the branches.

¹⁷ Some, however, of the branches were broken off, and you, who were only a wild olive, were grafted in amongst them, and came to share with them the root which is the source of the richness of the cultivated olive.

¹⁸ Yet do not exult over the other branches. But, if you do exult over them, remember that you do not support the root, but that the root supports you.

¹⁴ Being myself an apostle to the Gentiles, I exalt my office, in the hope that I may stir my countrymen to rivalry, and so save some of them.

¹⁶ For yf one pece be holy the whole heepe is holy. And yf the rote be holy the braunches are holy also.

¹⁷ Though some of the brauuches be broken of and thou beynge a wylde olyue tree arte graft in amonge them and made parttaker of the rote and fatnes of the olyve tree

¹⁸ bost not thy selfe agaynst the brauches. For yf thou bost thy selfe remember that thou bearest not the rote but the rote the.

¹⁴ Perhaps I will provoke to jealousy those who are of my own flesh. Perhaps we will save some of them.

¹⁵ For if their rejection means the reconciliation of the world, what will their acceptance be but life from the dead?

¹⁶ If the firstfruits are reserved, so is the lump of dough. If the root is reserved, so are the branches.

¹⁷ But if some of the branches were broken off, if you, a wild olive branch, were grafted in among them, and if you shared with them in the rich root of the olive tree,

¹⁸ do not boast over the branches. But if you do boast, it is not you who supports the root, but the root that supports you.

¹⁸ do not thou have glory against the branches. For if thou gloriest, thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.

¹⁴ if in any manner I stir my flesh for to follow, and that I make some of them safe (or and that I save some of them).

¹⁵ For if the loss of them is the reconciling of the world, what is the taking up of them, but (the giving of) life of dead men? +or no but (the giving of) life to (the) dead? (or nothing less than the giving of life to the dead! or the giving of life from the dead!)

¹⁶ For if a little part of that that is tasted be holy, the whole gobbet is holy; and if the root is holy, also the branches.

¹⁷ What if any of the branches be broken, when thou were a wild olive tree, art grafted or art set in among them, and art made (a) fellow of the root, and of the fatness of the olive tree,

¹⁸ do not thou have glory (or boast) against the branches. For if thou gloriest (or For if thou boastest), thou bearest not the root, but the root thee.

¹⁴ if by any means I shall arouse to jealousy mine own flesh, and shall save some of them,

¹⁵ for if the casting away of them is a reconciliation of the world, what the reception — if not life out of the dead?

¹⁶ and if the first-fruit is holy, the lump also; and if the root is holy, the branches also.

¹⁷ And if certain of the branches were broken off, and thou, being a wild olive tree, wast graffed in among them, and a fellow-partaker of the root and of the fatness of the olive tree didst become —

¹⁸ do not boast against the branches; and if thou dost boast, thou dost not bear the root, but the root thee!
