Proverbs 9:1-5 in English

¹ Wisdom hath builded her house; She hath hewn out her seven pillars:

² She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; She hath also furnished her table:

³ She hath sent forth her maidens; She crieth upon the highest places of the city:

⁴ Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: As for him that is void of understanding, she saith to him,

⁵ Come, eat ye of my bread, And drink of the wine which I have mingled.

¹ Wisdom has built a house for herself, and set up seven pillars.

² She has killed her beasts; she has mingled her wine in a bowl, and prepared her table.

³ She has sent forth her servants, calling with a loud proclamation to the feast, saying,

⁴ Whoso is foolish, let him turn aside to me: and to them that want understanding she says,

⁵ Come, eat of my bread, and drink wine which I have mingled for you.

¹ It is as though wisdom is a woman who has built a big house for herself, and has set up seven columns to support the roof,

² and has slaughtered an animal and cooked the meat, and has mixed nice spices in the wine, and has put the food on the table.

³ It is as though then she sent out her servant women to call out from the highest place in the town,

⁴ “You people who need to understand more, come in!” And to those who are ignorant, it is as though she calls out,

⁵ “Come and eat the food that I have prepared, and drink the good wine that I have mixed!

³ She has sent out her women-servants; her voice goes out to the highest places of the town, saying,

⁴ Whoever is simple, let him come in here; and to him who has no sense, she says:

⁵ Come, take of my bread, and of my wine which is mixed.

³ she hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the summits of the high places of the city,

⁴ Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither. To him that is void of understanding, she saith,

⁵ Come, eat ye of my bread, and drink of the wine that I have mingled.

² She hath slain her victims, mingled her wine, and set forth her table.

³ She hath sent her maids to invite to the tower, and to the walls of the city:

⁴ Whosoever is a little one, let him come to me. And to the unwise she said:

⁵ Come, eat my bread, and drink the wine which I have mingled for you.

² She has slaughtered her animals for meat; she has mixed her wine; and she has set her table.

³ She has sent out her servant girls with invitations. She calls out from the highest places of the town,

⁴ “Everybody who needs to learn, come and see me!” To people who don't have any sense she says,

⁵ “Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed.

¹ Wisedome hath built her house, and hewen out her seuen pillars.

² She hath killed her vitailes, drawen her wine, and prepared her table.

³ She hath sent forth her maydens and cryeth vpon the highest places of the citie, saying,

⁴ Who so is simple, let him come hither, and to him that is destitute of wisedome, she sayth,

⁵ Come, and eate of my meate, and drinke of the wine that I haue drawen.

⁴ “Who is naive? Let him turn aside here!” To the one lacking good sense she speaks.

⁵ “Come, eat my food, and drink the wine I have mixed.

² he offered his slain sacrifices, he meddled or mingled wine, and setted or set forth his table.

³ He sent his handmaids, that they should call to the tower; and to the walls of the city.

⁴ If any man is little in wit, come he to me. And wisdom spake to unwise men,

⁵ Come ye, eat ye my bread; and drink ye the wine, which I have meddled or mingled to you.

¹ Wisdom builded an house to himself (or Wisdom built a house for himself); he hewed out seven pillars,

² he offered his slain sacrifices, he meddled wine (or he mixed in spices with the wine), and setted forth his table.

³ He sent his handmaids (or He sent forth his servantesses), that they should call to the tower; and to the walls of the city.

⁴ If any man is little (in wit), come he to me. And wisdom spake to unwise men, (and said), (And that they should say, If any one hath little intelligence, come he to me. And then wisdom spoke to the unwise, and said,)

⁵ Come ye, eat ye my bread; and drink ye the wine, which I have meddled to you, (or and drink ye the wine, in which I have mixed in spices for you).

² She hath slaughtered her slaughter, She hath mingled her wine, Yea, she hath arranged her table.

³ She hath sent forth her damsels, She crieth on the tops of the high places of the city:

⁴ 'Who is simple? let him turn aside hither.' Whoso lacketh heart: she hath said to him,

⁵ 'Come, eat of my bread, And drink of the wine I have mingled.
