Proverbs 7:20-25 in English

²⁰ He hath taken a bag of money with him; He will come home at the full moon.

²¹ With her much fair speech she causeth him to yield; With the flattering of her lips she forceth him along.

²² He goeth after her straightway, As an ox goeth to the slaughter, Or as one in fetters to the correction of the fool;

²³ Till an arrow strike through his liver; As a bird hasteth to the snare, And knoweth not that it is for his life.

²⁴ Now therefore, my sons, hearken unto me, And attend to the words of my mouth.

²⁵ Let not thy heart decline to her ways; Go not astray in her paths.

²⁰ having taken in his hand a bundle of money: after many days he will return to his house.

²¹ So with much converse she prevailed on him to go astray, and with the snares of her lips she forced him from the right path.

²² And he followed her, being gently led on, and that as an ox is led to the slaughter, and as a dog to bonds, or as a hart shot in the liver with an arrow:

²³ and he hastens as a bird into a snare, not knowing that he is running for his life.

²⁴ Now then, my son, hearken to me, and attend to the words of my mouth.

²⁰ He is carrying a wallet filled with money, and he will not return until the middle of this month.”

²¹ So she persuaded him by her enticing/tempting words. She allured him by her smooth/sweet talk.

²² And he went with her immediately, like an ox that was going to where it would be slaughtered, or like a deer (OR, a fool) that is stepping into a noose/trap,

²³ where it will remain/stay until someone shoots an arrow into its liver and kills it. He was like a bird that flew into a trap. He did not know that ◄it would cost him his life/he would die as a result►.

²⁴ My son, listen to what I say; pay careful attention to my words.

²⁵ Do not allow anything to arouse/persuade you to go with an immoral woman like that. Do not go where she goes.

²⁰ having taken in his hand a bundle of money: after many days he will return to his house.

²³ Like a bird falling into a net; with no thought that his life is in danger, till an arrow goes into his side.

²⁴ So now, my sons, give ear to me; give attention to the sayings of my mouth;

²⁵ Let not your heart be turned to her ways, do not go wandering in her footsteps.

²⁰ he hath taken the money-bag with him, he will come home on the day of the full moon.

²¹ With her much enticement she beguiled him; with the smoothness of her lips she constrained him.

²² He went after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, and as stocks serve for the correction of the fool;

²³ till an arrow strike through his liver: as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for its life.

²⁴ And now, ye sons, hearken unto me, and attend to the words of my mouth.

²⁵ Let not thy heart decline to her ways, go not astray in her paths:

²⁰ He took with him a bag of money: he mill return home the day of the full moon.

²¹ She entangled him with many words, and drew him away with the flattery of her lips.

²² Immediately he followeth her as an ox led to be a victim, and as a lamb playing the wanton, and not knowing that he is drawn like a fool to bonds,

²³ Till the arrow pierce his liver: as if a bird should make haste to the snare, and knoweth not that his life is in danger.

²⁴ Now therefore, my son, hear me, and attend to the words of my mouth.

²⁵ Let not thy mind be drawn away in her ways: neither be thou deceived with her paths.

²⁰ He took a bag of money with him, and he won't be coming back until the full moon.”

²¹ She convinced him with all that she said; she seduced him with her smooth talking.

²² He followed her right away, like an ox to the slaughter. Like a stag that's caught in a snare

²³ until an arrow pierces its liver, like a bird flying into a trap, he's unaware he will pay with his life.

²⁴ So now listen to me, my sons, and pay attention to what I'm saying.

²⁵ Don't even think about following her. Don't stray down her road.

²⁰ He hath taken with him a bagge of siluer, and will come home at the day appointed.

²¹ Thus with her great craft she caused him to yeelde, and with her flattering lips she entised him.

²² And he followed her straight wayes, as an oxe that goeth to the slaughter, and as a foole to the stockes for correction,

²³ Till a dart strike through his liuer, as a bird hasteth to the snare, not knowing that he is in danger.

²⁴ Heare me now therefore, O children, and hearken to the wordes of my mouth.

²⁵ Let not thine heart decline to her wayes: wander thou not in her paths.

²⁰ He hath taken the bag of money with him; he will come home at the full moon.'

²¹ With her much fair speech she causeth him to yield, with the blandishment of her lips she enticeth him away.

²² He goeth after her straightway, as an ox that goeth to the slaughter, or as one in fetters to the correction of the fool;

²³ Till an arrow strike through his liver; as a bird hasteneth to the snare — and knoweth not that it is at the cost of his life.

²⁴ Now therefore, O ye children, hearken unto me, and attend to the words of my mouth.

²¹ She seduced him by the abundance of her reasoning: by the flattery of her lips she misguided him.

²² He followed after her suddenly, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, and as in fetters to his correction, the fool:

²³ Till an arrow cleaveth through his liver; as a bird hasteneth into the snare, and knoweth not that it is done to take his life.

²⁴ And now, O children, hearken unto me, and listen to the sayings of my mouth.

²⁵ Let not thy heart turn aside to her ways, do not go astray on her paths.

²⁰ Having taken in his hand a bundle of money: After many days he will return to his house.

²⁵ Let not thy heart turn aside to her ways; Go not astray in her paths!

²⁰ He has taken a bag of money with him. He will come home at the full moon.”

²⁵ May your heart not turn aside onto her paths; do not be led astray onto her paths.

²⁰ He has taken a bag of money with him. He will come home at the full moon.”

²² Anon he as an ox led to slain sacrifice pursueth or followeth her, and as a jolly lamb and unknowing; and the fool knoweth not, that he is drawn to bonds,

²³ till an arrow pierce his maw. As if a bird hasteth to the snare; and knoweth not, that it is done of the peril of his life.

²⁴ Now therefore, my son, hear thou me; and perceive the words of my mouth.

²⁵ Lest thy soul be drawn away in the ways of her; neither be thou deceived in the paths of her.

²⁰ He took with him a bag of money; he shall turn again in to his house in the day of the full moon. (He took a bag of money with him; and he shall not return to his house until the day of the full moon.)

²¹ She bound him with many words; and she drew forth him with flatterings of lips. (And so she bound him with many words; and she drew him forth with the flattery from her lips.)

²² Anon he as an ox led to slain sacrifice followeth her, and as a jolly lamb and unknowing; and the fool knoweth not, that he is drawn to bonds, (And so at once he followeth her, like an ox led away to be slain for the offering, and like a jolly, and unknowing, lamb; and the fool knoweth not, that he is drawn into bonds,)

²³ till an arrow pierce his maw. As if a bird hasteth to the snare; and knoweth not, that it is done of the peril of his life. (until an arrow pierce his belly. Yea, like a bird that hasteneth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is done at the peril of its own life.)

²⁴ Now therefore, my son, hear thou me; and perceive the words of my mouth. (And so now, my son, listen thou to me; and understand the words that I speak.)

²⁵ Lest thy soul be drawn away in the ways of her; neither be thou deceived in the paths of her. (Lest thy life be drawn away by her ways; go thou not forth on her deceptive paths.)

²⁰ A bag of money he hath taken in his hand, At the day of the new moon he cometh to his house.'

²¹ She turneth him aside with the abundance of her speech, With the flattery of her lips she forceth him.

²² He is going after her straightway, As an ox unto the slaughter he cometh, And as a fetter unto the chastisement of a fool,

²³ Till an arrow doth split his liver, As a bird hath hastened unto a snare, And hath not known that it is for its life.

²⁴ And now, ye sons, hearken to me, And give attention to sayings of my mouth.

²⁵ Let not thy heart turn unto her ways, Do not wander in her paths,
