Proverbs 26:11-15 in English

¹¹ As a dog that returneth to his vomit, So is a fool that repeateth his folly.

¹² Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? There is more hope of a fool than of him.

¹³ The sluggard saith, There is a lion in the way; A lion is in the streets.

¹⁴ As the door turneth upon its hinges, So doth the sluggard upon his bed.

¹⁵ The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish; It wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth.

¹¹ As when a dog goes to his own vomit, and becomes abominable, so is a fool who returns in his wickedness to his own sin.

^11a There is a shame that brings sin: and there is a shame that is glory and grace.

¹² I have seen a man who seemed to himself to be wise; but a fool had more hope than he.

¹³ A sluggard when sent on a journey says, There is a lion in the ways, and there are murderers in the streets.

¹² God can help/bless foolish people more easily than he can help/bless people who are not wise RHQ, but think that they are wise.

¹³ Lazy people just stay inside their houses and do nothing; they keep saying “ I think there is a lion in the street!”

¹⁴ A door continually swings back and forth on its hinges and does not go anywhere; similarly SIM, lazy people just continually turn over in their beds and never do anything.

¹⁵ Some people are extremely lazy; they put their hand in a dish to get some food but do not even lift the food up to their mouths.

¹⁴ A door is turned on its pillar, and the hater of work on his bed.

¹⁵ The hater of work puts his hand deep into the basin: lifting it again to his mouth is a weariness to him.

¹¹ As a dog turneth back to its vomit, so a fool repeateth his folly.

¹² Hast thou seen a man wise in his own eyes? There is more hope of a fool than of him.

¹³ The sluggard saith, There is a fierce lion in the way; a lion is in the midst of the streets!

¹⁴ As the door turneth upon its hinges, so the sluggard upon his bed.

¹⁵ The sluggard burieth his hand in the dish: it wearieth him to bring it again to his mouth.

¹¹ As a dog that returneth to his vomit, so is the fool that repeateth his folly.

¹⁵ The slothful hideth his hand under his armpit, and it grieveth him to turn it to his mouth.

¹¹ Stupid people repeat their stupidity like a dog returning to its vomit.

¹² Have you seen a man who is wise in his own eyes? There's more hope for stupid people than for him!

¹³ Lazy people are the ones who say, “There's a lion on the road—a lion running around the streets!”

¹⁴ A lazy person turns in bed like a door turns on its hinge.

¹⁵ Lazy people put their hands in a dish, but are too tired to lift the food to their mouths.

¹¹ As a dog turneth againe to his owne vomit, so a foole turneth to his foolishnes.

¹² Seest thou a man wise in his owne conceite? more hope is of a foole then of him.

¹³ The slouthfull man sayth, A lyon is in the way: a lyon is in the streetes.

¹⁴ As the doore turneth vpon his hinges, so doeth the slouthfull man vpon his bed.

¹⁵ The slouthfull hideth his hand in his bosome, and it grieueth him to put it againe to his mouth.

¹¹ As a dog that returneth to his vomit, so is a fool that repeateth his folly.

¹⁴ As the door turns on its hinges, so does the sluggard on his bed.

¹⁵ The lazy person puts his hand into the dish and yet he has no strength to lift it up to his mouth.

¹¹ As a dog that returns to his vomit, so is a fool who repeats his folly.

¹² Thou hast seen a man seem wise to himself; an unknowing man shall have hope more than he.

¹³ A slow man saith, A lion is in the way, a lioness is in the footpaths.

¹⁴ As a door is turned in his hinges; so a slow man in his bed.

¹⁵ A slow man hideth his hands under his armpit; and he travaileth, if he turneth them up to his mouth.

¹¹ As a dog that turneth again to his spewing or As an hound that turneth again to his vomit; so is an unprudent man, that rehearseth his folly. (Like a dog that returneth to his vomit, is an imprudent person, who repeateth his own foolishness.)

¹² Thou hast seen a man seem wise to himself; an unknowing man shall have hope more than he. (Thou hast seen a person who taketh himself to be wise; but a person without knowledge, yea, a fool, shall have more hope than him.)

¹³ A slow man saith, A lion is in the way, a lioness is in the footpaths. (A lazy person saith, A lion is there on the way, a lioness is there on the footpaths!)

¹⁴ As a door is turned in his hinges; so a slow man in his bed. (Like a door turning on its hinges, is a lazy person turning in his bed.)

¹⁵ A slow man hideth his hands under his armpit; and he travaileth, if he turneth them up to his mouth. (A lazy person hideth his hands under his armpit; and he laboureth, if he turneth them up to his mouth.)

¹¹ As a dog hath returned to its vomit, A fool is repeating his folly.

¹² Thou hast seen a man wise in his own eyes, More hope of a fool than of him!

¹³ The slothful hath said, 'A lion is in the way, A lion is in the broad places.'

¹⁴ The door turneth round on its hinge, And the slothful on his bed.

¹⁵ The slothful hath hid his hand in a dish, He is weary of bringing it back to his mouth.
