²⁴ The father of the righteous will greatly rejoice; And he that begetteth a wise child will have joy of him.

²⁵ Let thy father and thy mother be glad, And let her that bare thee rejoice.

²⁶ My son, give me thy heart; And let thine eyes delight in my ways.

²⁷ For a harlot is a deep ditch; And a foreign woman is a narrow pit.

²⁸ Yea, she lieth in wait as a robber, And increaseth the treacherous among men.

²⁹ Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? Who hath complaining? who hath wounds without cause? Who hath redness of eyes?

³⁰ They that tarry long at the wine; They that go to seek out mixed wine.

³¹ Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, When it sparkleth in the cup, When it goeth down smoothly:

²⁴ A righteous father brings up his children well; and his soul rejoices over a wise son.

²⁷ Prostitutes and immoral women DOU are like MET a deep pit or a well that you may fall into.

²⁸ They wait for you like robbers SIM, and they cause many men to ◄be unfaithful to/have sex with women who are not► their wives.

²⁹ I will tell you RHQ what kind of people are always miserable and sad. I will tell you RHQ which people are always causing arguments/quarrels and who are always complaining. I will tell you RHQ who are injured in fights and whose eyes are always red/bloodshot.

³⁰ It is those who drink a lot of wine, who try drinking other kinds of strong drinks.

³¹ Do not look with pleasure at red wine that looks nice, and which sparkles when it is poured out into cups, and which tastes good as you drink it,

³⁰ Those who are seated late over the wine: those who go looking for mixed wine.

³¹ Keep your eyes from looking on the wine when it is red, when its colour is bright in the cup, when it goes smoothly down:

²⁷ A prostitute is like being trapped in a pit; an immoral woman is like getting stuck a narrow well,

²⁸ Like a robber, she lies in wait ready to ambush men and make more of them unfaithful to their wives.

²⁹ Who's in trouble? Who's in pain? Who's arguing? Who's complaining? Who's injured for no reason? Who's got bloodshot eyes?

³⁰ —those who spend a long time drinking wine, those who are always trying some new cocktail.

³¹ Don't let the look of wine tempt you—how red it is, how it sparkles in the cup, how smooth it feels as it goes down.

²⁴ The father of the righteous shall greatly reioyce, and hee that begetteth a wise childe, shall haue ioy of him.

When a poisonous snake bites you, you get really sick, it is very painful when a death adder bites you, in that same way after drinking wine you will get really sick. You will see frightening things that aren't there and you will talk in a stupid way. You all know about the sailing ships in the sea, the post that holds the sail is really tall. That post moves in the wind in every direction. In that same way that drunk person walks in a staggering way. And he will say, “They hit me but I didn't feel it. I didn't know

³⁰ Whether not to them, that dwell in wine, and study to drink up all of cups?

³¹ Behold thou not the wine, when it sparkleth, when the colour thereof shineth in a glass cup. It entereth sweetly,

²⁴ The father of a just man joyeth full out with joy; he that begat a wise man, shall be glad in him. (The father of a righteous person rejoiceth with great joy; he who begat someone who is wise, shall take much pleasure, or pride, in him.)

²⁵ Thy father and thy mother have joy, and he that begat thee, make full out joy. (So let thy father and thy mother have joy over thee, and let she who bare thee, rejoice.)

²⁸ She setteth ambush in the way, as a thief, (or She setteth ambush on the way, like a thief); and shall add despisers in men, that is, (she) shall multiply (the) despisers of God among men.

²⁹ To whom is woe? to whose father is woe? to whom be chidings? (or to whom be arguments?) to whom be ditches? to whom be wounds without cause? to whom is putting out of eyes?

³⁰ Whether not to them, that dwell in wine, and study to drink up all of (the) cups? (Whether not to those, who live in wine, and endeavour to drink up every last drop from the cup?)

³¹ Behold thou not the wine (or Look thou not upon the wine), when it sparkleth, when the colour thereof shineth in a glass cup. It entereth sweetly,
