⁴ The soul of the sluggard desireth, and hath nothing; But the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

⁵ A righteous man hateth lying; But a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame.

⁶ Righteousness guardeth him that is upright in the way; But wickedness overthroweth the sinner.

⁷ There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: There is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great wealth.

⁸ The ransom of a man’s life is his riches; But the poor heareth no threatening.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoiceth; But the lamp of the wicked shall be put out.

⁴ Every slothful man desires, but the hands of the active are diligent.

⁵ A righteous man hates an unjust word: but an ungodly man is ashamed, and will have no confidence.

⁷ There are some who, having nothing, enrich themselves: and there are some who bring themselves down in the midst of much wealth.

⁷ Some people who have nothing pretend to be rich, but other people who are very rich pretend to be poor.

⁸ Rich people are able to pay people who want to kill them, with the result that they will be protected, not killed, but poor people do not have to worry about that because no one threatens to kill them.

⁹ Righteous people are like a lamp MET that shines brightly, but wicked people are like MET a lamp that will soon be extinguished.

⁶ Rightfulness keepeth (safe) the way of an innocent man; but wickedness deceiveth a sinner.

⁷ A man is as rich, when he hath nothing; and a man is as poor, when he is in many riches. (A person can be rich, even when he hath nothing; and a person can be poor, even when he hath many riches.)

⁸ The Redemption of the soul of a man is his riches; but he that is poor, suffereth not blaming. (The ransom for a man’s lifeis his riches; but he who is poor, shall not even suffer threats.)

⁹ The light of just men maketh glad; but the lantern of wicked men shall be quenched. (The light of the righteous maketh happy, or inspireth; but the lantern of the wicked shall be quenched.)

⁴ The soul of the slothful is desiring, and hath not. And the soul of the diligent is made fat.

⁵ A false word the righteous hateth, And the wicked causeth abhorrence, and is confounded.

⁶ Righteousness keepeth him who is perfect in the way, And wickedness overthroweth a sin offering.

⁷ There is who is making himself rich, and hath nothing, Who is making himself poor, and wealth is abundant.

⁸ The ransom of a man's life are his riches, And the poor hath not heard rebuke.

⁹ The light of the righteous rejoiceth, And the lamp of the wicked is extinguished.
