⁴ Now the passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.

⁵ Jesus therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude cometh unto him, saith unto Philip, Whence are we to buy bread, that these may eat?

⁶ And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.

⁷ Philip answered him, Two hundred shillings’ worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one may take a little.

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him,

⁹ There is a lad here, who hath five barley loaves, and two fishes: but what are these among so many?

¹⁰ Jesus said, Make the people sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

⁴ The Jewish Passover Feast was near.

⁵ Jesus looked up, and saw that a great multitude was coming to Him, so He asked Philip, “Where can we buy bread, so that these may eat?”

⁶ He said this to test him, for He knew what He would do.

⁷ Philip answered, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread wouldn’t even be enough for everyone to receive a little!”

⁸ One of Jesus’ disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him,

⁹ “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what is that among so many people?”

¹⁰ Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass there, so the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

⁴ And the passover, a feast of the Jews, was nigh.

⁵ When Jesus then lifted up his eyes, and saw a great company come unto him, he saith unto Philip, Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?

⁵ He said to Philip, “Where will we buy food for all these people to eat?”

⁶ He asked this only to find out if Philip believed what Jesus could do, because Jesus already knew what he himself was going to do.

⁷ Philip replied to him, “ Even if we had the amount of money a man earns in eight months, that would not be enough to buy bread so that each person could have a little bit!”

⁸ Another one of us disciples, Andrew, who was Simon Peter's younger brother, said to Jesus,

⁹ “There is a boy here who has five small barley loaves and two cooked fish. But ◄they will not help much among so many people!/what good will that do among so many people?► RHQ”

¹⁰ Jesus said, “Tell the people to sit down!” There was plenty of grass there, so they all sat down comfortably. There were about five thousand men among the crowd .

⁴ Now the Passover, the feast of the Jews, was at hand.

⁶ This he said, testing him: for he had no doubt what he himself would do.

⁷ Philip made answer, Bread to the value of two hundred pence would not be enough even to give everyone a little.

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to Jesus,

⁹ There is a boy here with five barley cakes and two fishes: but what is that among such a number?

¹⁰ Jesus said, Let the people be seated. Now there was much grass in that place. And those seated on the grass were about five thousand.

⁴ but the passover, the feast of the Jews, was near.

⁵ Jesus then, lifting up his eyes and seeing that a great crowd is coming to him, says to Philip, Whence shall we buy loaves that these may eat?

⁶ But this he said trying him, for he knew what he was going to do.

⁷ Philip answered him, Loaves for two hundred denarii are not sufficient for them, that each may have some little portion.

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, says to him,

⁹ There is a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two small fishes; but this, what is it for so many?

¹⁰ And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place: the men therefore sat down, in number about five thousand.

⁴ Now the pasch, the festival day of the Jews, was near at hand.

⁵ When Jesus therefore had lifted up his eyes, and seen that a very great multitude cometh to him, he said to Philip: Whence shall we buy bread, that these may eat?

⁵ Then, raising His eyes and observing that a huge crowd was coming toward Him, Jesus says to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread so that these folks may eat?”

⁶ Now He said this to test him, for He Himself knew what He was about to do.

⁷ Philip answered Him, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread would not be enough for them, so that each of them could receive a little.”

⁸ One of His disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, says to Him,

⁹ “There is a little boy here who has five loaves of barley bread and two small fish, but what are they for so many?”

¹⁰ Then Jesus said, “Make the people recline.” Now there was plenty of grass in the place; so the men reclined, about five thousand in number.

⁴ The time for the Jewish festival of the Passover was approaching.

⁵ When Jesus looked up, and saw a large crowd coming towards him, he asked Philip, “Where can we buy enough bread to feed all these people?”

⁶ He only asked this to see how Philip would respond, because Jesus already knew what he was going to do.

⁷ “Two hundred silver coins wouldn't buy enough bread to give everyone even just a little,” Philip replied.

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up.

⁹ “There's a boy here who has five barley loaves and a couple of fish, but what good is that when there are so many people?”

¹⁰ “Have everybody sit down,” Jesus said. There was plenty of grass there, so they all sat down, the men numbering around five thousand.

⁴ Now the Passeouer, a feast of the Iewes, was neere.

⁵ Then Iesus lift vp his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude came vnto him, hee sayde vnto Philippe, Whence shall we buy breade, that these might eate?

⁶ (And this he sayde to prooue him: for hee himselfe knewe what he would doe.)

⁷ Philippe answered him, Two hundreth penie worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that euery one of them may take a litle.

⁸ Then saide vnto him one of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peters brother,

⁹ There is a little boy heere, which hath fiue barlie loaues, and two fishes: but what are they among so many?

¹⁰ And Iesus saide, Make ye people sit downe. (Nowe there was much grasse in that place.) Then the men sate downe in nomber, about fiue thousande.

⁷ “Even if we spent a years' wages on bread,” answered Philip, “it would not be enough for each of them to have a little.”

⁸ “There is a boy here,” said Andrew, another of his disciples, Simon Peter's brother,

⁹ “Who has five barley loaves and two fish; but what is that for so many?”

¹⁰ “Make the people sit down,” said Jesus. It was a grassy spot; so the people, who numbered about five thousand, sat down,

⁴ It was near the time of the Jewish Festival of the Passover.

⁵ Looking up, and noticing that a great crowd was coming towards him, Jesus said to Philip, “Where are we to buy bread for these people to eat?”

⁶ He said this to test him, for he himself knew what he meant to do.

⁷ “Even if we spent a years' wages on bread,” answered Philip, “it would not be enough for each of them to have a little.”

⁴ Now the Judean Person from Praise festival of Pesac ·Passover· was at hand.

⁵ Yeshua Salvation therefore lifting up his eyes, and seeing that a great multitude was coming to him, said to Philip Loves horses, “Where are we to buy matzah ·unleavened bread·, that these may eat?”

⁶ This he said to test him, for he himself knew what he would do.

⁷ Philip Loves horses answered him, “Two hundred denarii (200 days wages) worth of matzah ·unleavened bread· is not sufficient for them, that everyone of them may receive a little.”

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew Manly, Simeon Peter Hearing Rock’s brother, said to him,

⁹ “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what are these among so many?”

¹⁰ Yeshua Salvation said, “Have the people sit down.” Now there was much grass in that place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

⁴ And ester a feast of the Iewes was nye.

⁵ Then Iesus lifte vp his eyes and sawe a greate company come vnto him and sayde vnto Philip: whence shall we bye breed that these might eate.

¹⁰ And Iesus sayde. Make the people sit doune: Ther was moche grasse in the place. And the men sate doune in nombre about five thousande.

⁵ Therefore when Jesus had lifted up his eyes, and had seen, that a great multitude came to him, he saith to Philip, Whereof shall we buy loaves, (so) that these men eat?

⁶ But he said this thing, tempting him (or testing him); for he knew what he was to do.

⁷ Philip answered to him, The loaves of two hundred pence suffice not to them, (so) that each man (can) take a little (some)what.

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, saith to him,

⁹ A child is here, that hath five barley loaves and two fishes; but what be these among so many?

¹⁰ Therefore Jesus saith, Make them sit to the meat. And there was much hay in the place. And so men sat to the meat, as five thousand in number. Therefore Jesus saith, Make ye men to sit at the meat. Forsooth there was much hay in the place. Therefore men sat at the meat, in number as five thousand. (And so Jesus said, Make them to sit down for the meal. And there was much hay in that place. And so the men sat down for the meal, five thousand in number.)

⁴ And the paske was ful niy, a feeste dai of the Jewis.

⁵ Therfor whanne Jhesus hadde lift vp hise iyen, and hadde seyn, that a greet multitude cam to hym, he seith to Filip, Wherof schulen we bie looues, that these men ete?

⁶ But he seide this thing, temptynge hym; for he wiste what he was to do.

⁷ Filip answerde to hym, The looues of tweyn hundrid pans sufficen not to hem, that ech man take a litil what.

⁸ Oon of hise disciplis, Andrew, the brothir of Symount Petre,

⁹ seith to him, A child is here, that hath fyue barli looues and twei fischis; but what ben these among so manye?

¹⁰ Therfor Jhesus seith, Make ye hem sitte to the mete. And there was myche hey in the place. And so men saten to the mete, as `fyue thousynde in noumbre.

⁴ and the passover was nigh, the feast of the Jews.
