John 1:23-27 in English

²³ He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.

²⁴ And they had been sent from the Pharisees.

²⁵ And they asked him, and said unto him, Why then baptizest thou, if thou art not the Christ, neither Elijah, neither the prophet?

²⁶ John answered them, saying, I baptize in water: in the midst of you standeth one whom ye know not,

²⁷ even he that cometh after me, the latchet of whose shoe I am not worthy to unloose.

²³ John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, “I am the voice of one calling in the desert, ‘Make straight the way for the Lord.’”

²⁴ Now those who were sent were Pharisees.

²⁵ They asked him, saying, “Why then do you baptize if you aren’t the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?”

²⁶ John answered them, saying, “I baptize with water, but One stands among you that you don’t know.

²⁷ It is He who, coming after me, is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to untie.”

²⁴ And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.

²³ John replied, “ I am the one the prophet Isaiah said would proclaim this new message loudly to the people who would pass by in this desolate area: ‘Prepare yourselves to receive the Lord when he comes MET, just like people prepare a road for an important official.

²⁴ Some of those people who were questioning John were ones who had been sent by the Pharisee religious group {whom the Pharisee religious group had sent}.

²⁵ They asked John, “Since you say you are not the Messiah, nor the prophet Elijah, nor the prophet like Moses, what authority do you have? Furthermore, why are you baptizing Jews, treating them as though they were non-Jews who wanted to become Jews?”

²⁶ John replied, “I am just baptizing people with water to prepare them to welcome the Messiah. But right now someone is among you whom you people do not know.

²⁷ He will preach to you after I am gone. He is so important that I am not worthy to serve him as a slave MET by untying his sandals.”

²³ He said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of the Lord,’ as Isaiah the prophet said.”

²⁴ The ones who had been sent were from the Pharisees.

²⁵ They asked him, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?”

²⁶ John's answer was: I give baptism with water; but there is one among you of whom you have no knowledge;

²⁷ It is he who is coming after me; I am not good enough to undo his shoes.

²³ He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the path of the Lord, as said Esaias the prophet.

²⁴ And they were sent from among the Pharisees.

²⁵ So they asked him saying, “Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor ‘the Prophet’?”

²⁶ John answered them saying: “I baptize with water, but among you stands One whom you do not know.

²⁷ He is the One coming after me who is now ahead of me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to loose.”

²³ “I am a voice calling in the desert, ‘Make the Lord's way straight!’” he said, using the words of the prophet Isaiah.

²⁴ The priests and Levites sent by the Pharisees

²⁵ asked him, “Why then are you baptizing, if you're not the Messiah, or Elijah, or the Prophet?”

²⁶ John replied, “I baptize with water, but standing among you is someone you don't know.

²⁷ He is coming after me, but I am not even worthy to untie his sandals.”

²³ He said, I am the voyce of him that cryeth in the wildernesse, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the Prophet Esaias.

²⁴ Nowe they which were sent, were of the Pharises.

²⁵ And they asked him, and saide vnto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, neither Elias, nor that Prophet?

²⁶ Iohn answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there is one among you, whom ye knowe not.

²⁷ He it is that commeth after me, which was before me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthie to vnloose.

²³ “I,” he answered, “am — ‘The voice of one crying aloud in the wilderness: make a straight road for the Lord’, as the prophet Isaiah said.”

²⁵ and their next question was, “Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Christ or Elijah or ‘the prophet’?”

²⁶ John's answer was — “I baptize with water, but among you stands one whom you do not know;

²³ He said, “I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, ‘Make straight the way of MarYah Master Yahweh,’ as Isaiah Salvation of Yah the prophet said.”

²⁵ They asked him, “Why then do you baptize, if you are not the Messiah Anointed one, nor Elijah My God Yah, nor the prophet?”

²⁶ John Yah is gracious answered them, “I baptize in water, but among you stands one whom you don’t know.

²⁷ He is the one who comes after me, who is preferred before me, whose sandal strap I’m not worthy to loosen.”

²³ He sayde: I am the voyce of a cryar in the wyldernes make strayght the waye of the Lorde as sayde the Prophete Esaias.

²⁴ And they which were sent were of the pharises.

²⁵ And they axed him and sayde vnto him: why baptisest thou then yf thou be not Christ nor Helyas nether a Prophet?

²⁶ Iohn answered them sayinge: I baptise with water: but one is come amonge you whom ye knowe not

²⁷ he it is that cometh after me whiche was before me whose shoe latchet I am not worthy to vnlose.

²³ He seide, Y am a vois of a crier in deseert, Dresse ye the weie of the Lord, as Ysaie, the prophete, seide.

²⁴ And thei that weren sent, weren of the Fariseis.

²⁵ And thei axiden hym, and seiden to hym, What thanne baptisist thou, if thou art not Crist, nether Elie, nether a profete?

²⁶ Joon answeride to hem, and seide, Y baptise in watir, but in the myddil of you hath stonde oon, that ye knowen not;

²⁷ he it is, that schal come aftir me, that was maad bifor me, of whom Y am not worthi to louse the thwong of his schoo.

²³ He said, 'I am a voice of one crying in the wilderness: Make straight the way of the Lord, as said Isaiah the prophet.'

²⁴ And those sent were of the Pharisees,

²⁵ and they questioned him and said to him, 'Why, then, dost thou baptize, if thou art not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the prophet?'

²⁶ John answered them, saying, 'I baptize with water, but in midst of you he hath stood whom ye have not known, this one it is who is coming after me, who hath been before me,

²⁷ of whom I am not worthy that I may loose the cord of his sandal.'
