John 9:1-37 in English

¹ And as he passed by, he saw a man blind from his birth.

² And his disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his parents, that he should be born blind?

³ Jesus answered, Neither did this man sin, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

⁴ We must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

⁵ When I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

⁶ When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed his eyes with the clay,

⁷ and said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent). He went away therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

⁸ The neighbors therefore, and they that saw him aforetime, that he was a beggar, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?

⁹ Others said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am he.

¹⁰ They said therefore unto him, How then were thine eyes opened?

¹¹ He answered, The man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to Siloam, and wash: so I went away and washed, and I received sight.

¹² And they said unto him, Where is he? He saith, I know not.

¹³ They bring to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.

¹⁴ Now it was the sabbath on the day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.

¹⁵ Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. And he said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and I see.

¹⁶ Some therefore of the Pharisees said, This man is not from God, because he keepeth not the sabbath. But others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such signs? And there was a division among them.

¹⁷ They say therefore unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, in that he opened thine eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.

¹⁸ The Jews therefore did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,

¹⁹ and asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?

²⁰ His parents answered and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:

²¹ but how he now seeth, we know not; or who opened his eyes, we know not: ask him; he is of age; he shall speak for himself.

²² These things said his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man should confess him to be Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

²³ Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.

²⁴ So they called a second time the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give glory to God: we know that this man is a sinner.

²⁵ He therefore answered, Whether he is a sinner, I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

²⁶ They said therefore unto him, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?

²⁷ He answered them, I told you even now, and ye did not hear; wherefore would ye hear it again? would ye also become his disciples?

²⁸ And they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are disciples of Moses.

²⁹ We know that God hath spoken unto Moses: but as for this man, we know not whence he is.

³⁰ The man answered and said unto them, Why, herein is the marvel, that ye know not whence he is, and yet he opened mine eyes.

³¹ We know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and do his will, him he heareth.

³² Since the world began it was never heard that any one opened the eyes of a man born blind.

³³ If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.

³⁴ They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

³⁵ Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and finding him, he said, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

³⁶ He answered and said, And who is he, Lord, that I may believe on him?

³⁷ Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and he it is that speaketh with thee.

¹ Passing by, Jesus saw a man who was blind from birth.

² His disciples asked Him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

³ Jesus answered, “Neither this man nor his parents sinned, but this happened so that God’s works might be revealed in this man.

⁴ We must work the works of Him who sent me, as long as it’s day. Night is coming, when nobody can work.

⁵ As long as I am in the world, I am the world’s light.”

⁶ After Jesus said this, He spat on the ground and made mud with the saliva, put it on the blind man’s eyes,

⁷ and told him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means Sent). So he went away and washed, and came back seeing.

⁸ Then the neighbors and those who used to see him as a beggar began to ask, “Isn’t this the man who used to sit and beg?”

⁹ Some were saying, “Yes, it is he,” others were saying, “No, but he is like him.” He kept saying, “I’m the one.”

¹⁰ So they asked him, “How were your eyes opened?”

¹¹ He answered, “The man called Jesus made mud, put it on my eyes, and told me, ‘Go to Siloam, and wash’; so I went and washed, and I received sight.”

¹² “Where is this man?” they asked him. “I don’t know,” he said.

¹³ They brought the man who used to be blind to the Pharisees.

¹⁴ Now it was a sabbath day when Jesus made the mud and opened the man’s eyes.

¹⁵ So the Pharisees were also asking him how he received his sight. He told them, “He applied mud to my eyes, I washed, and I see.”

¹⁶ Therefore some of the Pharisees said, “This Man isn’t from God, because He doesn’t keep the Sabbath.” Others said, “How can a sinner do such signs?” So there was a division among them.

¹⁷ So they turned again to the blind man and asked, “What do you say about him? It was your eyes he opened.” He said, “He is a prophet.”

¹⁸ The Jews didn’t believe that he had been blind, and had received sight, until they called the parents of the one who had received his sight,

¹⁹ and questioned them, saying, “Is this your son, who you say was born blind? Then how does he now see?”

²⁰ His parents answered them, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind,

²¹ but how he now sees, we don’t know. Who opened his eyes, we don’t know. Ask him. He is of age. He will speak for himself.”

²² His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews, for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone would confess that Jesus was the Christ, they would be put out of the synagogue.

²³ For this reason, his parents said, “Ask him. He is of age.”

²⁴ So they called the man who had been blind a second time, and told him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”

²⁵ He answered, “Whether He is a sinner or not I don’t know. One thing I do know: that though I was blind, now I see.”

²⁶ Then they asked him again, “What did He do to you? How did He open your eyes?”

²⁷ He answered, “I told you already, and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don’t want to become His disciples, too, do you?”

²⁸ Then they became abusive towards him and said, “You are that man’s disciple, but we are Moses’ disciples.

²⁹ We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this man, we don’t know where He is from.”

³⁰ The man answered, “How amazing! You don’t know where He comes from, yet He opened my eyes.

³¹ We know that God doesn’t hear sinners, but if anyone is God-fearing, and does His will, He hears him.

³² Since the beginning of time it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of a person born blind.

³³ If this man weren’t from God, He could do nothing.”

³⁴ To this they replied, “Who are you to teach us? You were born entirely in sin!” Then they threw him out.

³⁵ Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, He said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”

³⁶ He answered, “Who is He, sir, that I may believe in Him?”

³⁷ Jesus told him, “You have seen Him, and it is He who is talking with you.”

¹ And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.

² And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

³ Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

¹⁹ And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?

²⁰ His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:

²¹ But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.

²² These words spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

²⁷ He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear it again? will ye also be his disciples?

¹ As Jesus walked along with us, he saw a man who had been blind from the time he was born.

² We disciples asked him, “Teacher, was this man blind from when he was born because his parents sinned or because he himself sinned?”

³ Jesus replied, “His being blind was not because he or his parents sinned. Instead, he has been blind in order that people can see the power of God {the power of God can be seen} as a result of what will now happen to him.

⁴ While there is still time, I must do the work that the one who sent me wants me to do. Just like daytime is followed by nighttime when people do not work, at the end of our lives MET it is too late for us to do what God wants.

⁵ While I am still living in this world, I am the one who enables people to know about God, like MET a light enables the people in MTY this world to see what is in the darkness.”

⁶ After he said that, he spat on the ground. He made a little bit of mud with the saliva, and put it on the man's eyes.

⁷ Then he said to him, “Go and wash in Siloam pool!” (That name means ❛sent;❜ just like they sent the water by a channel into the pool, God sent Jesus). So the man went and washed in the pool, and when he went home he was able to see!

⁸ His neighbors and others who previously had seen him when he was begging said, “He is the man who used to sit here and beg, isn't he?”

⁹ Some said, “ Yes, he is.” Others said, “No, he is not. It is just a man who looks like him!” But the man himself said, “Yes, I am that man!”

¹⁰ So they said to him, “How is it that now you can see?”

¹¹ He replied, “The man whose name is Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes. Then he told me to go to Siloam pool and wash. So I went there and washed, and then I could see.”

¹² They said to him, “Where is that man now?” He said, “I do not know.”

¹³ They took to the Pharisees the man who was previously blind.

¹⁴ The day on which Jesus made the mud and enabled the man to see again was a ◄Sabbath/Jewish day of rest►. The Pharisees considered that healing someone was work, and their rules did not permit people to do any work ◄ on the Sabbath/on the Jewish rest day►.

¹⁵ So the Pharisees also asked that man, “How did you become able to see?” He said to them, “The man put mud on my eyes. Then I washed, and now I can see!”

¹⁶ So some of the Pharisees said, “Since this man Jesus disobeys our rules about working ◄on the Sabbath/on the Jewish rest day►, he is not from God.” But others said, “If he was a sinner, ◄he could certainly not do such miracles!/how could he do such miracles?► RHQ” So they were divided.

¹⁷ So one of them said to the blind man again, “You are the man whom he enabled to see. What do you yourself say about him?” The man said, “ I think he is a prophet!” So they told him to go.

¹⁸ The Jewish leaders SYN still did not believe that the man was blind when he was born, and that he was now able to see. So they sent someone to bring the man's parents.

¹⁹ When they got there, one of the Jewish leaders asked them, “Is that man your son? Do you say that he was blind when he was born? If that is true, how is he now able to see?”

²⁰ His parents replied, “We know that he is our son. We know that he was blind when he was born.

²¹ But we do not know how he is able to see now. We also do not know who enabled him to see. Ask our son! He is old enough to answer questions from authorities like you He can tell you himself!”

²² The Jewish leaders SYN had previously declared that they would prevent anyone who declared that Jesus was the Messiah from entering their synagogues. His parents knew that, so they were afraid of the Jewish leaders SYN.

²³ That is the reason that they said, “He is old enough to answer questions, so ask him!”

²⁴ So they sent someone to bring back to them the man who had been blind. When he got there, the Jewish leaders said to him, “Knowing that God is listening IDM, tell the truth! We know that the man who healed you is a sinner.”

²⁵ He replied, “I do not know if he is a sinner or not. But one thing I do know is that I was blind, but now I can see!”

²⁶ So they said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he enable you to see?”

²⁷ He replied, “I told you that already, but you did not RHQ pay attention! Why do you want to hear me tell you again? ◄Do you also want to become his disciples?/You talk as though IRO you also want to become his disciples RHQ►.”

²⁸ Then they insulted him angrily. They said, “You are that man's disciple, but we are Moses' disciples!

²⁹ We know that God spoke to Moses; but this man, we do not know where he is from or where he gets any authority from!”

³⁰ The man replied, “That is very surprising! You say that you do not know where he gets any authority. But he enabled me to see!

³¹ We know that God does not help sinners who ask God to help them. Instead, he listens to and helps godly people who pray. He listens to people who do what God wants.

³² No one has ever enabled a man to see who was blind when he was born like I was. That has never happened since the world began!

³³ So if this man had not come from God, he would not be able to do anything like that!”

³⁴ They replied to him, “You ◄were born as a result of your parents' sin EUP/bastard►! ◄Do you think you are qualified to teach us?/You are not qualified to teach us!► RHQ” Then they threw him out of the synagogue.

³⁵ Jesus heard people say that they had thrown that man out. He found the man and said to him, “Do you believe that the one who came down from heaven is the Messiah?”

³⁶ The man answered, “Sir, who is he? Tell me, in order that I may believe in him.”

³⁷ Jesus said to him, “You have seen him. In fact, it is I, the one who am speaking to you.”

²¹ but how he now sees, we don’t know; or who opened his eyes, we don’t know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself.”

²² His parents said these things because they feared the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if any man would confess him as Christ, he would be put out of the synagogue.

²³ Therefore his parents said, “He is of age. Ask him.”

²⁴ So they called the man who was blind a second time, and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”

²⁵ He therefore answered, “I don’t know if he is a sinner. One thing I do know: that though I was blind, now I see.”

²⁶ They said to him again, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”

²⁷ He answered them, “I told you already, and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don’t also want to become his disciples, do you?”

²⁸ They insulted him and said, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.

²⁹ We know that God has spoken to Moses. But as for this man, we don’t know where he comes from.”

³⁰ The man answered them, “How amazing! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.

³¹ We know that God doesn’t listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, he listens to him.

³² Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of someone born blind.

³³ If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”

³⁴ They answered him, “You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?” Then they threw him out.

³⁵ Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of God?”

³⁶ He answered, “Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?”

³⁷ Jesus said to him, “You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you.”

¹ As he passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.

² His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind?”

³ Jesus answered, “This man didn’t sin, nor did his parents, but that the works of God might be revealed in him.

⁴ I must work the works of him who sent me while it is day. The night is coming, when no one can work.

⁵ While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

⁶ When he had said this, he spat on the ground, made mud with the saliva, anointed the blind man’s eyes with the mud,

⁷ and said to him, “Go, wash in the pool of Siloam” (which means “Sent”). So he went away, washed, and came back seeing.

⁸ Therefore the neighbours and those who saw that he was blind before said, “Isn’t this he who sat and begged?”

⁹ Others were saying, “It is he.” Still others were saying, “He looks like him.” He said, “I am he.”

¹⁰ They therefore were asking him, “How were your eyes opened?”

¹¹ He answered, “A man called Jesus made mud, anointed my eyes, and said to me, ‘Go to the pool of Siloam and wash.’ So I went away and washed, and I received sight.”

¹² Then they asked him, “Where is he?” He said, “I don’t know.”

¹³ They brought him who had been blind to the Pharisees.

¹⁴ It was a Sabbath when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.

¹⁵ Again therefore the Pharisees also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see.”

¹⁶ Some therefore of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God, because he doesn’t keep the Sabbath.” Others said, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” So there was division amongst them.

¹⁷ Therefore they asked the blind man again, “What do you say about him, because he opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophet.”

¹⁸ The Jews therefore didn’t believe concerning him, that he had been blind and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him who had received his sight,

¹⁹ and asked them, “Is this your son, whom you say was born blind? How then does he now see?”

²⁰ His parents answered them, “We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind;

²¹ but how he now sees, we don’t know; or who opened his eyes, we don’t know. He is of age. Ask him. He will speak for himself.”

⁴ While it is day we have to do the works of him who sent me: the night comes when no work may be done.

⁵ As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

⁶ Having said these words, he put earth, mixed with water from his mouth, on the man's eyes,

⁷ And said to him, Go and make yourself clean in the bath of Siloam (the sense of the name is, Sent). So he went away and, after washing, came back able to see.

⁸ Then the neighbours and others who had seen him before in the street, with his hand out for money, said, Is not this the man who got money from people?

⁹ Some said, It is he: others said, No, but he is like him. He said, I am he.

¹⁰ So they said to him, How then were your eyes made open?

¹¹ His answer was: The man who is named Jesus put earth mixed with water on my eyes, and said to me, Go and make yourself clean in Siloam: so I went away and, after washing, am now able to see.

¹² And they said to him, Where is he? His answer was: I have no knowledge.

¹³ They took him before the Pharisees — this man who had been blind.

¹⁴ Now the day on which the earth was mixed by Jesus and the man's eyes were made open was the Sabbath.

¹⁵ So the Pharisees put more questions to him about how his eyes had been made open. And he said to them, He put earth on my eyes, and I had a wash and am able to see.

¹⁶ Then some of the Pharisees said, That man has not come from God, for he does not keep the Sabbath. Others said, How is it possible for a sinner to do such signs? So there was a division among them.

¹⁷ Again they said to the blind man, What have you to say about him for opening your eyes? And he said, He is a prophet.

¹⁸ Now the Jews had no belief in the statement that he had been blind and was now able to see, till they sent for the father and mother of the man whose eyes had been made open,

¹⁹ And put the question to them, saying, Is this your son, of whom you say that he was blind at birth? how is it then that he is now able to see?

²⁰ In answer his father and mother said, We are certain that this is our son and that he was blind at birth:

²¹ But how it is he is now able to see, or who made his eyes open, we are not able to say: put the question to him; he is old enough to give an answer for himself.

²² They said this because of their fear of the Jews: for the Jews had come to an agreement that if any man said that Jesus was the Christ he would be put out of the Synagogue.

²³ That was the reason why they said, He is old enough; put the question to him.

²⁴ So they sent a second time for the man who had been blind and they said to him, Give glory to God: it is clear to us that this man is a sinner.

²⁵ He said in answer, I have no knowledge if he is a sinner or not, but one thing I am certain about; I was blind, and now I see.

²⁶ Then they said to him, What did he do to you? how did he give you the use of your eyes?

²⁷ His answer was: I have said it before, but your ears were shut: why would you have me say it again? is it your desire to become his disciples?

²⁸ And they were angry with him and said, You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.

²⁹ We are certain that God gave his word to Moses: but as for this man, we have no knowledge where he comes from.

³⁰ The man said in answer, Why, here is a strange thing! You have no knowledge where he comes from though he gave me the use of my eyes.

³¹ We have knowledge that God does not give ear to sinners, but if any man is a worshipper of God and does his pleasure, to him God's ears are open.

³² In all the years nobody has ever before seen the eyes of a man blind from birth made open.

³³ If this man did not come from God he would be unable to do anything.

³⁴ Their answer was: You came to birth through sin; do you make yourself our teacher? And they put him out of the Synagogue.

³⁵ It came to the ears of Jesus that they had put him out, and meeting him he said, Have you faith in the Son of man?

³⁶ He said in answer, And who is he, Lord? Say, so that I may have faith in him.

³⁷ Jesus said to him, You have seen him; it is he who is talking to you.

¹ And as he passed on, he saw a man blind from birth.

¹⁸ The Jews then did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and had received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight,

²⁷ He answered them: “I already told you and you didn't listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don't want to become His disciples too, do you?”

²⁸ They reviled him and said: “You are that fellow's disciple, but we are Moses' disciples.

²⁹ We know that God spoke to Moses; but this fellow—we don't know where he's from.”

³⁰ The man answered and said to them: “Why, this is remarkable—you don't know where He is from; yet He opened my eyes!

³¹ Now we know that God doesn't listen to sinners; but if anyone is God-fearing and does His will, to him He listens.

³⁶ He answered and said, “And who is He, Lord, that I may believe into Him?”

³⁷ So Jesus said to him, “You have both seen Him and He is the One who is speaking with you.”

¹ As Jesus was passing by, he saw a man born blind.

² His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, why was this man born blind? Was it him who sinned, or was it his parents?”

³ Jesus replied, “It wasn't because the man or his parents sinned. But so that what God can do may be shown in his life,

⁴ we have to keep on doing the work of the one who sent me as long as it is still daytime. The night is coming when no one can work.

⁵ While I'm here in the world I am the light of the world.”

⁶ After he'd said this, Jesus spat on the ground and made some mud with the saliva which he put on the man's eyes.

⁷ Then Jesus told him, “Go and wash in the Pool of Siloam” (which means “sent”). So the man went and washed, and when he went home he could see.

⁸ His neighbors and those who had known him as a beggar, asked, “Isn't this the man who used to sit and beg?”

⁹ Some said he was, while others said “no, it's just someone who looks like him.” But the man kept saying, “It is me!”

¹⁰ “So how is it you can see?” they asked him.

¹¹ He replied, “A man called Jesus made some mud and put it on my eyes and told me, ‘Go and wash yourself in the Pool of Siloam.’ So I went and washed, and now I can see.”

¹² “Where is he?” they asked. “I don't know,” he replied.

¹³ They took the man who had been blind to the Pharisees.

¹⁴ Now it was the Sabbath when Jesus had made the mud and opened the blind man's eyes.

¹⁵ So the Pharisees also asked him how he could see. He told them, “He put mud on my eyes, and I washed, and now I can see.”

¹⁷ So they went on questioning the man. “What's your opinion about him, then, since it's your eyes he opened,” they asked. “He's surely a prophet,” the man replied.

¹⁸ The Jewish leaders still refused to believe that the man who had been blind could now see until they had called in the man's parents.

¹⁹ They asked them, “Is this your son whom you say was born blind? So how is it that now he can see?”

²⁰ His parents answered, “We know this is our son who was born blind.

²¹ But we've no idea how he can see now, or who healed him. Why don't you ask him, he's old enough. He can speak for himself.”

²² The reason his parents said this was because they were afraid of what the Jewish leaders would do. The Jewish leaders had already announced that anyone who declared that Jesus was the Messiah would be thrown out of the synagogue.

²³ That was why his parents said, “Ask him, he's old enough.”

²⁴ Once more they called in the man who had been blind, and told him, “Give God the glory! We know this man is a sinner.”

²⁵ The man replied, “Whether he's a sinner or not, I don't know. All I know is that I was blind and now I can see.”

²⁶ Then they asked him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”

²⁷ The man replied, “I already told you. Weren't you listening? Why do you want to hear it again? You don't want to become his disciples too, do you?”

²⁸ They shouted abuse at him, and said, “You're that man's disciple.

²⁹ We're disciples of Moses. We know that God spoke to Moses, but as for this person, we don't even know where he comes from.”

³⁰ The man answered, “That's incredible! You don't know where he comes from but he opened my eyes.

³¹ We know that God doesn't listen to sinners, but he does listen to anyone who worships him and does what he wants.

³² Never before in the whole of history has anyone heard of a man born blind being healed.

³³ If this man weren't from God, he could do nothing.”

³⁴ “You were born totally sinful, and yet you're trying to lecture us,” they replied. And they threw him out of the synagogue.

³⁵ When Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, he went and found the man, and asked him, “Do you trust in the Son of man?”

³⁶ The man replied, “Tell me who he is, sir, so I can put my trust in him.”

³⁷ “You've already seen him. He's the one speaking with you now!” Jesus told him.

¹ And as Iesus passed by, he sawe a man which was blinde from his birth.

² And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sinne, this man, or his parents, that he was borne blinde?

³ Iesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents, but that the workes of God should be shewed on him.

⁴ I must worke the workes of him that sent me, while it is day: the night commeth when no man can worke.

⁵ As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

⁶ Assoone as he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spettle, and anointed the eyes of the blinde with the clay,

⁷ And sayd vnto him, Go wash in the poole of Siloam (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came againe seeing.

⁸ Nowe the neighbours and they that had seene him before, when he was blinde, sayd, Is not this he that sate and begged?

⁹ Some said, This is he: and other sayd, He is like him: but he himselfe sayd, I am he.

¹⁰ Therefore they sayd vnto him, Howe were thine eyes opened?

¹¹ He answered, and sayd, The man that is called Iesus, made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and sayde vnto me, Goe to the poole of Siloam and wash. So I went and washed, and receiued sight.

¹² Then they sayd vnto him, Where is he? He sayd, I can not tell.

¹³ They brought to the Pharises him that was once blinde.

¹⁴ And it was the Sabbath day, when Iesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.

¹⁵ Then againe the Pharises also asked him, how he had receiued sight. And hee sayd vnto them, He layd clay vpon mine eyes, and I washed, and doe see.

¹⁶ Then said some of the Pharises, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the Sabbath day. Others sayd, Howe can a man that is a sinner, doe such miracles? and there was a dissension among them.

¹⁷ Then spake they vnto the blinde againe, What sayest thou of him, because he hath opened thine eyes? And he sayd, He is a Prophet.

¹⁸ Then the Iewes did not beleeue him (that he had bene blinde, and receiued his sight) vntill they had called the parents of him that had receiued sight.

¹⁹ And they asked them, saying, Is this your sonne, whom ye say was borne blinde? How doeth he nowe see then?

²⁰ His parents answered them, and sayd, We know that this is our sonne, and that he was borne blinde:

²¹ But by what meanes hee nowe seeth, we know not: or who hath opened his eyes, can we not tell: he is olde ynough: aske him: hee shall answere for himselfe.

²² These wordes spake his parents, because they feared the Iewes: for the Iewes had ordeined already, that if any man did confesse that he was Christ, he should be excommunicate out of the Synagogue.

²³ Therefore sayde his parents, Hee is olde ynough: aske him.

²⁴ Then againe called they the man that had bene blinde, and sayd vnto him, Giue glory vnto God: we know that this man is a sinner.

²⁵ Then he answered, and sayd, Whether hee be a sinner or no, I can not tell: one thing I know, that I was blinde, and nowe I see.

²⁶ Then sayd they to him againe, What did he to thee? howe opened he thine eyes?

²⁷ Hee answered them, I haue tolde you already, and yee haue not heard it: wherefore would yee heare it againe? will yee also be his disciples?

²⁸ Then reuiled they him, and sayd, Be thou his disciple: we be Moses disciples.

²⁹ We know that God spake with Moses: but this man we know not from whence he is.

³⁰ The man answered, and sayde vnto them, Doutlesse, this is a marueilous thing, that ye know not whence he is, and yet he hath opened mine eyes.

³¹ Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him heareth he.

³² Since the world began, was it not heard, that any man opened the eyes of one that was borne blinde.

³³ If this man were not of God, hee could haue done nothing.

³⁴ They answered, and sayd vnto him, Thou art altogether borne in sinnes, and doest thou teach vs? so they cast him out.

³⁵ Iesus heard that they had cast him out: and when he had found him, he sayd vnto him, Doest thou beleeue in the Sonne of God?

³⁶ He answered, and sayd, Who is he, Lord, that I might beleeue in him?

³⁷ And Iesus sayd vnto him, Both thou hast seene him, and he it is that talketh with thee.

¹⁸ The religious authorities, however, refused to believe that he had been blind and had gained his sight, until they had called his parents and questioned them.

¹⁹ “Is this your son,” they asked, “who you say was born blind? If so, how is it that he can see now?”

²⁰ “We know that this is our son,” answered the parents, “and that he was born blind;

²¹ but how it is that he can see now we do not know; nor do we know who it was that gave him his sight. Ask him — he is old enough — he will tell you about himself.”

¹⁴ It was a Sabbath ·To cease· when Yeshua Salvation made the mud and opened his eyes.

¹⁵ Again therefore the Pharisees Separated also asked him how he received his sight. He said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I see.”

²³ Therefore his parents said, “He is of age. Ask him.”

²⁴ So they called the man who was blind a second time, and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”

²⁵ He therefore answered, “I don’t know if he is a sinner. One thing I do know: that though I was blind, now I see.”

²⁶ They said to him again, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”

²⁷ He answered them, “I told you already, and you didn’t listen. Why do you want to hear it again? You don’t also want to become his disciples, do you?”

²⁸ They insulted him and said, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses Drawn out.

²⁹ We know that God has spoken to Moses Drawn out. But as for this man, we don’t know where he comes from.”

³⁰ The man answered them, “How amazing! You don’t know where he comes from, yet he opened my eyes.

³¹ We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God, and does his will, he listens to him.

³² Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of someone born blind.

³³ If this man was not from God, he could do nothing.”

³ Iesus answered: Nether hath this man synned nor yet his father and mother: but that the workes of God shuld be shewed on him.

⁴ I must worke the workes of him that sent me whyll it is daye. The nyght cometh when no man can worke.

⁵ As longe as I am in the worlde I am the lyght of the worlde.

⁶ Assone as he had thus spoken he spate on the grounde and made claye of the spetle and rubbed the claye on the eyes of the blynde

⁷ and sayde vnto him: Goo wesshe the in the pole of Syloe which by interpretacion signifieth sent. He went his waye and wasshed and cam agayne seinge.

⁸ The neghboures and they that had sene him before how that he was a begger sayde: is not this he that sate and begged?

⁹ Some sayde: this is he. Other sayd: he is lyke him. But he him selfe sayde: I am even he.

¹⁰ They sayde vnto him: How are thyne eyes opened then?

¹¹ He answered and sayde. The man that is called Iesus made claye and anoynted myne eyes and sayd vnto me: Goo to the pole Syloe and wesshe. I went and wesshed and receaved my syght.

¹² They sayde vnto him: where is he? He sayde: I cannot tell.

¹³ Then brought they to the pharises him that a lytell before was blynde:

¹⁵ Then agayne the pharises also axed him how he had receaved his syght. He sayde vnto the: He put claye apon myne eyes and I wasshed and do se.

¹⁶ Then sayde some of the pharises: this man is not of God because he kepeth not the saboth daye. Other sayde: how can a man that is a synner do suche myracles? And ther was stryfe amonge them.

¹⁷ Then spake they vnto the blynde agayne: What sayst thou of him because he hath openned thyne eyes? And he sayd: He is a Prophet.

¹⁸ But the Iewes dyd not beleve of the felowe how that he was blynde and receaved his syght vntyll they had called the father and mother of him that had receaved his syght.

¹⁹ And they axed the saying: Is this youre sonne whome ye saye was borne blynde? How doth he now se then?

²⁰ His father and mother answered them and sayde: we wote well that this is oure sonne and that he was borne blynde:

²¹ but by what meanes he now seith that can we not tell or who hath opened his eyes can we not tell. He is olde ynough axe him let him answer for him selfe.

²² Suche wordes spake his father and mother because they feared the Iewes. For the Iewes had conspyred all redy that yf eny man dyd confesse that he was Christ he shuld be excommunicat out of the synagoge.

²³ Therfore sayde his father and mother: he is olde ynough axe him.

²⁴ Then agayne called they the man that was blynde and sayd vnto him: Geve God the prayse: we knowe that this man is a synner.

²⁵ He answered and sayde: Whyther he be a synner or noo I cannot tell: One thinge I am sure of that I was blynde and now I se.

²⁶ Then sayde they to him agayne. What dyd he to the? How opened he thyne eyes?

²⁷ He answered them I tolde you yerwhyle and the dyd not heare. Wherfore wolde ye heare it agayne? Will ye also be his disciples?

²⁸ Then rated they him and sayde: Thou arte his disciple. We be Moses disciples.

²⁹ We are sure that God spake with Moses. This felowe we knowe not from whence he is.

³⁰ The man answered and sayde vnto them: this is a merveleous thinge that ye wote not whence he is seinge he hath opened myne eyes.

³¹ For we be sure that God heareth not synners. But yf eny man be a worshipper of God and do his will him heareth he.

³² Sence the worlde beganne was it not hearde that eny man opened the eyes of one that was borne blynd.

³³ If this man were not of God he coulde have done no thinge.

³⁴ They answered and sayd vnto him: thou arte altogeder borne in synne: and dost thou teache vs? And they cast him out.

³⁵ Iesus hearde that they had excommunicate him: and assone as he had founde him he sayd vnto him: doest thou beleve on the sonne of God?

³⁶ He answered and sayde: Who is it Lorde that I myght beleve on him?

³⁷ And Iesus sayde vnto him: Thou hast sene him and he it is that talketh with the.

¹ Now as Jesus passed by, he saw a man blind from birth.

² His disciples asked him, “Rabbi, who sinned, this man or his parents, so that he was born blind?”

³ Jesus answered, “Neither did this man sin, nor his parents, but so that the works of God would be revealed in him.

⁴ We must work the works of him who sent me while it is day. Night is coming when no one will be able to work.

⁵ While I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”

⁸ Then the man's neighbors and those who had seen him previously as a beggar were saying, “Is not this the man that used to sit and beg?”

⁹ Some said, “It is he.” Others said, “No, but he is like him.” But he said, “It is me.”

¹⁰ They said to him, “Then how were your eyes opened?”

¹¹ He answered, “The man who is called Jesus made mud and smeared it on my eyes and said to me, 'Go to Siloam and wash.' So I went and washed, and I received my sight.”

¹² They said to him, “Where is he?” He replied, “I do not know.”

¹³ They brought the man who used to be blind to the Pharisees.

¹⁴ Now it was the Sabbath day when Jesus made the mud and opened his eyes.

¹⁵ Then again the Pharisees asked him how he had received his sight. He said to them, “He put mud on my eyes, I washed, and I now can see.”

¹⁶ Some of the Pharisees said, “This man is not from God because he does not keep the Sabbath.” Others said, “How can a man who is a sinner do such signs?” So there was a division among them.

¹⁷ So they asked the blind man again, “What do you say about him, since he opened your eyes?” The blind man said, “He is a prophet.”

¹⁸ Now the Jews still did not believe about him that he was blind and had received his sight until they called the parents of him who had received his sight.

¹⁹ They asked the parents, “Is this your son whom you say was born blind? How then does he now see?”

²⁰ So his parents answered them, “We know that this is our son and that he was born blind.

²¹ How he now sees, we do not know, and who opened his eyes, we do not know. Ask him, he is an adult. He can speak for himself.”

²² His parents said these things, because they were afraid of the Jews. For the Jews had already agreed that if anyone would confess him to be the Christ, he would be thrown out of the synagogue.

²³ Because of this, his parents said, “He is an adult, ask him.”

²⁴ So for a second time they called the man who had been blind and said to him, “Give glory to God. We know that this man is a sinner.”

²⁵ Then that man replied, “I do not know if he is a sinner. One thing I do know: I was blind, and now I see.”

²⁶ Then they said to him, “What did he do to you? How did he open your eyes?”

²⁷ He answered, “I have told you already, and you did not listen! Why do you want to hear it again? You do not want to become his disciples too, do you?

²⁸ They insulted him and said, “You are his disciple, but we are disciples of Moses.

²⁹ We know that God has spoken to Moses, but we do not know where this one is from.”

³⁰ The man answered and said to them, “This is remarkable, that you do not know where he is from, and yet he opened my eyes.

³¹ We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if someone is devout and does his will, he listens to him.

³² Since the world began it has never been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind.

³³ If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”

³⁴ They answered and said to him, “You were completely born in sins, and you are teaching us?” Then they threw him out.

³⁵ Jesus heard that they had cast him out of the synagogue. He found him and said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”

³⁶ He replied and said, “Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?”

³⁷ Jesus said to him, “You have seen him, and it is the one who is speaking with you.”

³² Since the world began it has never been heard of that anyone opened the eyes of someone born blind.

³³ If this man were not from God, he could do nothing.”

³⁴ They answered him, “You were altogether born in sins, and do you teach us?” Then they threw him out.

³⁵ Yeshua heard that they had thrown him out, and finding him, he said, “Do you believe in the Son of God?”

³⁶ He answered, “Who is he, Lord, that I may believe in him?”

³⁷ Yeshua said to him, “You have both seen him, and it is he who speaks with you.”

¹ And Jesus passing, saw a man blind from the birth.

² And his disciples asked him, Master, who sinned, this man, or his elders, or Rabbi, who sinned, this man, or his father and mother, that he should be born blind?

³ Jesus answered, Neither this man sinned, neither his elders or neither his father and mother; but that the works of God be showed in him.

⁴ It behooveth me to work the works of him that sent me, as long as the day is or the while the day is; the night shall come, when no man may work.

⁵ As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

⁶ When he had said these things, he spat into the earth, and made clay of the spittle, and anointed the clay on his eyes,

⁷ and said to him, Go, and be thou washed in the water, or cistern, of Siloam, that is to say, Sent. Then he went, and washed, and came seeing.

⁸ And so neighbours, and they that had seen him before, for he was a beggar, said, Whether this is not he, that sat, and begged?

⁹ Other men said, That this it is; and other men said, Nay, but he is like him. But he said, That I am he.

¹⁰ Therefore they said to him, How be thine eyes opened?

¹¹ He answered, That man, that is said Jesus, made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said to me, Go thou to the water, or cistern, of Siloam, and wash; and I went, and washed, and saw.

¹² And they said to him, Where is he? He said, I know not.

¹³ They led him that was blind to the Pharisees.

¹⁴ And it was sabbath, when Jesus made clay, and opened his eyes.

¹⁵ Again the Pharisees asked him, how he had seen. And he said to them, He laid or put to me clay on the eyes; and I washed, and I see.

¹⁶ Therefore some of the Pharisees said, This man is not of God, that keepeth not the sabbath. Other men said, How may a sinful man do these signs, or miracles. And strife or division was among them.

¹⁷ Therefore they said again to the blind man, What sayest thou of him, that opened thine eyes? And he said, That he is a prophet.

¹⁸ Therefore the Jews believed not of him, that he was blind, and had seen, till they called his father and mother, that had seen.

¹⁹ And they asked them, and said, Is this your son, which ye say was born blind? how then seeth he now?

²⁰ His father and mother answered to them, and said, We know, that this is our son, and that he was born blind;

²¹ but how he seeth now, we know not, or who opened his eyes, we know not; ask ye him, he hath age, speak he of himself.

²² His father and mother said these things, for they dreaded the Jews; for then the Jews had conspired, that if any man acknowledged him Christ, he should be done out of the synagogue.

²³ Therefore his father and mother said, That he hath age, ask ye him.

²⁴ Therefore again they called the man, that was blind, and said to him, Give thou glory to God; we know, that this man is a sinner.

²⁵ Then he said, If he is a sinner, I know not; one thing I know, that when I was blind, now I see.

²⁶ Therefore they said to him, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?

²⁷ He answered to them, I said to you now, and ye heard; what will ye again hear? whether ye will be made his disciples?

²⁸ Therefore they cursed him, and said, Be thou his disciple; we be the disciples of Moses.

²⁹ We know, that God spake to Moses; but we know not this, of whence he is.

³⁰ That man answered, and said to them, For in this is a wonderful thing, that ye know not, of whence he is, and he hath opened mine eyes.

³¹ And we know, that God heareth not sinful men, but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, he heareth him.

³² From the world it is not heard, that any man opened the eyes of a blind-born man;

³³ but this man were of God, he might not do anything.

³⁴ They answered, and said to him, Thou art all born in sins, and teachest thou us? or thou teachest us? And they put him out.

¹⁵ Again the Pharisees asked him, how he had seen. And he said to them, He laid to me or He put to me clay on the eyes (or He put some clay on my eyes); and I washed, and (now) I see.

¹⁶ Therefore some of the Pharisees said, This man is not of God, that keepeth not the sabbath, (or And so some of the Pharisees said, This man cannot be from God, for he keepeth not the Sabbath). Other men said, How may a sinful man do these signs, or miracles. And strife or division was among them.

¹⁷ Therefore they said again to the blind man, What sayest thou of him, that opened thine eyes? And he said, That he is a prophet.

²² His father and mother said these things, for they dreaded the Jews; for then the Jews had conspired, that if any man acknowledged him (as) Christ, he should be done out of the synagogue. (His father and mother said these things, for they feared the Jews; for then the Jews had conspired together, that if anyone acknowledged him as the Messiah, they would be put out of the synagogue.)

²³ Therefore his father and mother said, That he hath age, ask ye him. (And so his father and mother said, He is old enough, you ask him.)

²⁴ Therefore again they called the man, that was blind, and said to him, Give thou glory to God; we know, that this man is a sinner.

²⁵ Then he said, If he is a sinner, I know not; one thing I know, that when I was blind, now I see. (Then he said, If he is a sinner, I do not know; but the one thing I do know, is that before I was blind, and now I can see.)

²⁶ Therefore they said to him, What did he (do) to thee? how opened he thine eyes?

²⁷ He answered to them, I said to you now, and ye heard (me); what will ye again hear (it)? whether ye will be made his disciples? (He answered to them, I told you before, and ye heard me; why will ye hear it again? will ye also be made his disciples?)

²⁸ Therefore they cursed him, and said, Be thou (made) his disciple; we be the disciples of Moses.

²⁹ We know, that God spake to Moses; but we know not this (man), of whence he is.

³⁰ That man answered, and said to them, For in this is a wonderful thing, that ye know not, of whence he is, and he hath opened mine eyes.

² And hise disciplis axiden hym, Maistir, what synnede this man, or hise eldris, that he schulde be borun blynd?

³ Jhesus answeride, Nether this man synnede, nether hise eldris; but that the werkis of God be schewid in hym.

⁴ It bihoueth me to worche the werkis of hym that sente me, as longe as the dai is; the nyyt schal come, whanne no man may worche.

⁵ As longe as Y am in the world, Y am the liyt of the world.

⁶ Whanne he hadde seid these thingis, he spette in to the erthe, and made cley of the spotil, and anoyntide the cley on hise iyen,

⁷ and seide to hym, Go, and be thou waisschun in the watir of Siloe, that is to seie, Sent. Thanne he wente, and waisschide, and cam seynge.

⁸ And so neiyboris, and thei that hadden seyn him bifor, for he was a beggere, seiden, Whether this is not he, that sat, and beggide?

⁹ Othere men seiden, That this it is; othere men seyden, Nai, but he is lijc hym.

¹⁰ But he seide, That Y am. Therfor thei seiden to hym, Hou ben thin iyen openyd?

¹¹ He answerde, Thilke man, that is seid Jhesus, made clei, and anoyntide myn iyen, and seide to me, Go thou to the watre of Siloe, and wassche; and Y wente, and wasschide, and say.

¹² And thei seiden to hym, Where is he? He seide, Y woot not.

¹³ Thei leden hym that was blynd to the Farisees.

¹⁴ And it was sabat, whanne Jhesus made cley, and openyde hise iyen.

¹⁵ Eft the Farisees axiden hym, hou he hadde seyn. And he seide to hem, He leide to me cley on the iyen; and Y wasschide, and Y se.

¹⁶ Therfor summe of the Fariseis seiden, This man is not of God, that kepith not the sabat. Othere men seiden, Hou may a synful man do these signes. And strijf was among hem.

¹⁷ Therfor thei seien eftsoone to the blynd man, What seist thou of hym, that openyde thin iyen? And he seide, That he is a prophete.

¹⁸ Therfor Jewis bileueden not of hym, that he was blynd, and hadde seyn, til thei clepiden his fadir and modir, that hadde seyn.

¹⁹ And thei axiden hem, and seiden, Is this youre sone, which ye seien was borun blynd? hou thanne seeth he now?

²⁰ His fadir and modir answeriden to hem, and seiden, We witen, that this is oure sone, and that he was borun blynd;

²¹ but hou he seeth now, we witen neuer, or who openyde hise iyen, we witen nere; axe ye hym, he hath age, speke he of hym silf.

²² His fader and modir seiden these thingis, for thei dredden the Jewis; for thanne the Jewis hadden conspirid, that if ony man knoulechide hym Crist, he schulde be don out of the synagoge.

²³ Therfor his fadir and modir seiden, That he hath age, axe ye hym.

²⁴ Therfor eftsoone thei clepiden the man, that was blynd, and seiden to hym, Yyue thou glorie to God; we witen, that this man is a synnere.

²⁵ Thanne he seide, If he is a synnere, Y woot neuer; o thing Y woot, that whanne Y was blynd, now Y se.

²⁶ Therfor thei seiden to hym, What dide he to thee? hou openyde he thin iyen?

²⁷ He answerde to hem, Y seide to you now, and ye herden; what wolen ye eftsoone here? whether ye wolen be maad hise discyplis?

²⁸ Therfor thei cursiden hym, and seiden, Be thou his disciple; we ben disciplis of Moises.

²⁹ We witen, that God spak to Moises; but we knowen not this, of whennus he is.

³⁰ Thilke man answeride, and seide to hem, For in this is a wondurful thing, that ye witen not, of whennus he is, and he hath openyd myn iyen.

³¹ And we witen, that God herith not synful men, but if ony `man is worschypere of God, and doith his wille, he herith hym.

³² Fro the world it is not herd, that ony man openyde the iyen of a blynd borun man; but this were of God,

³³ he myyt not do ony thing.

³⁴ Thei answeriden, and seiden to hym, Thou art al borun in synnes, and techist thou vs? And thei putten hym out.

³⁵ Jhesus herd, that thei hadden putte hym out; and whanne he hadde founde hym, he seide to hym, Bileuest thou in the sone of God?

³⁶ He answerde, and seide, Lord, who is he, that Y bileue in hym?

³⁷ And Jhesus seide to hym, And thou hast seyn him, and he it is, that spekith with thee.

¹ And passing by, he saw a man blind from birth,

² and his disciples asked him, saying, 'Rabbi, who did sin, this one or his parents, that he should be born blind?'

³ Jesus answered, 'Neither did this one sin nor his parents, but that the works of God may be manifested in him;

⁴ it behoveth me to be working the works of Him who sent me while it is day; night doth come, when no one is able to work: —

⁵ when I am in the world, I am a light of the world.'

⁶ These things saying, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and rubbed the clay on the eyes of the blind man, and said to him,

⁷ 'Go away, wash at the pool of Siloam,' which is, interpreted, Sent. He went away, therefore, and did wash, and came seeing;

⁸ the neighbours, therefore, and those seeing him before, that he was blind, said, 'Is not this he who is sitting and begging?'

⁹ others said — 'This is he;' and others — 'He is like to him;' he himself said, — 'I am he.'

¹⁰ They said, therefore, to him, 'How were thine eyes opened?'

¹¹ he answered and said, 'A man called Jesus made clay, and rubbed my eyes, and said to me, Go away to the pool of Siloam, and wash; and having gone away and having washed, I received sight;'

¹² they said, therefore, to him, 'Where is that one?' he saith, 'I have not known.'

¹³ They bring him to the Pharisees who once was blind,

¹⁴ and it was a sabbath when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.

¹⁵ Again, therefore, the Pharisees also were asking him how he received sight, and he said to them, 'Clay he did put upon my eyes, and I did wash — and I see.'

¹⁶ Of the Pharisees, therefore, certain said, 'This man is not from God, because the sabbath he doth not keep;' others said, 'How is a man — a sinful one — able to do such signs?' and there was a division among them.

¹⁷ They said to the blind man again, 'Thou — what dost thou say of him — that he opened thine eyes?'

¹⁸ and he said — 'He is a prophet.' The Jews, therefore, did not believe concerning him that he was blind and did receive sight, till that they called the parents of him who received sight,

¹⁹ and they asked them, saying, 'Is your son, of whom ye say that he was born blind? how then now doth he see?'

²⁰ His parents answered them and said, 'We have known that this is our son, and that he was born blind;

²¹ and how he now seeth, we have not known; or who opened his eyes, we have not known; himself is of age, ask him; he himself shall speak concerning himself.'

²² These things said his parents, because they were afraid of the Jews, for already had the Jews agreed together, that if any one may confess him — Christ, he may be put out of the synagogue;

²³ because of this his parents said — 'He is of age, ask him.'

²⁴ They called, therefore, a second time the man who was blind, and they said to him, 'Give glory to God, we have known that this man is a sinner;'

²⁵ he answered, therefore, and said, 'If he be a sinner — I have not known, one thing I have known, that, being blind, now I see.'

²⁶ And they said to him again, 'What did he to thee? how did he open thine eyes?'

²⁷ He answered them, 'I told you already, and ye did not hear; why again do ye wish to hear? do ye also wish to become his disciples?'

²⁸ They reviled him, therefore, and said, 'Thou art his disciple, and we are Moses' disciples;

²⁹ we have known that God hath spoken to Moses, but this one — we have not known whence he is.'

³⁰ The man answered and said to them, 'Why, in this is a wonderful thing, that ye have not known whence he is, and he opened my eyes!

³¹ and we have known that God doth not hear sinners, but, if any one may be a worshipper of God, and may do His will, him He doth hear;

³² from the age it was not heard, that any one did open eyes of one who hath been born blind;

³³ if this one were not from God, he were not able to do anything.'

³⁴ They answered and said to him, 'In sins thou wast born altogether, and thou dost teach us!' and they cast him forth without.

³⁵ Jesus heard that they cast him forth without, and having found him, he said to him, 'Dost thou believe in the Son of God?'

³⁶ he answered and said, 'Who is he, sir, that I may believe in him?'

³⁷ And Jesus said to him, 'Thou hast both seen him, and he who is speaking with thee is he;'
