² And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

³ And the scribes and the Pharisees bring a woman taken in adultery; and having set her in the midst,

⁴ they say unto him, Teacher, this woman hath been taken in adultery, in the very act.

⁵ Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such: what then sayest thou of her?

⁶ And this they said, trying him, that they might have whereof to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.

⁷ But when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

⁸ And again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.

⁹ And they, when they heard it, went out one by one, beginning from the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the midst.

¹⁰ And Jesus lifted up himself, and said unto her, Woman, where are they? did no man condemn thee?

¹¹ And she said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said, Neither do I condemn thee: go thy way; from henceforth sin no more.

¹² Again therefore Jesus spake unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.

¹³ The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest witness of thyself; thy witness is not true.

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said unto them, Even if I bear witness of myself, my witness is true; for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye know not whence I come, or whither I go.

¹⁵ Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

¹⁶ Yea and if I judge, my judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

¹⁷ Yea and in your law it is written, that the witness of two men is true.

¹⁸ I am he that beareth witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

¹⁹ They said therefore unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye know neither me, nor my Father: if ye knew me, ye would know my Father also.

²⁰ These words spake he in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man took him; because his hour was not yet come.

²¹ He said therefore again unto them, I go away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin: whither I go, ye cannot come.

²² The Jews therefore said, Will he kill himself, that he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come?

²³ And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴ I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for except ye believe that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

²⁵ They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? Jesus said unto them, Even that which I have also spoken unto you from the beginning.

² At dawn, He came back into the temple. All the people were coming to Him, and He sat down and began to teach them.

³ The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the midst,

⁴ they told Him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act.

⁵ In the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. What do You say?”

⁶ They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have grounds to accuse Him. Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as if He didn’t hear.

⁷ When they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and told them, “Let whoever is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”

⁸ He stooped down, again, and wrote on the ground.

⁹ When they heard this, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones. Jesus was left alone with the woman still standing there.

¹⁰ Straightening up, Jesus asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

¹¹ She said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.”

¹² Jesus spoke again to the people, saying, “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me won’t walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”

¹³ Then the Pharisees told Him, “You are testifying on your own behalf, so your testimony isn’t valid.”

¹⁴ Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid because I know where I came from and where I am going, but you don’t know where I come from or where I am going.

¹⁵ You judge by human standards, but I am not judging anyone.

¹⁶ Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.

¹⁷ It’s also written in your Law that the testimony of two men is valid.

¹⁸ I am one who bears witness of myself, and my Father who sent me bears witness of me.”

¹⁹ Then they asked Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you had known me, you would have known my Father, too.”

²⁰ Jesus spoke these words in the treasury, as He taught in the temple. Nobody laid hands on Him, for His time had not yet come.

²¹ Jesus told them again, “I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you can’t come.”

²² Therefore the Jews were saying, “Surely He won’t kill Himself, will He, since He says, ‘Where I am going, you can’t come’?”

²³ Jesus was saying to them, “You are from below. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.

²⁴ Therefore I told you that you will die in your sins, because if you don’t believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”

²⁵ Then they asked Him, “Who are You?” Jesus told them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

⁹ And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

¹⁰ When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

¹¹ She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

¹² Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

¹³ The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

¹⁵ Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

¹⁶ And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

¹⁷ It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

² Early the next morning, we returned to the Temple courtyard. Many people gathered around Jesus, so he sat down to teach them.

³ Then men who taught the Jewish laws and some of SYN the Pharisee religious group brought a woman to him. She was seized { They had arranged to seize her} while she was having sex with a man who was not her husband. They made her stand up in front of the group that was listening to Jesus.

⁴ Then they said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was seized { we seized this woman} while she was having sex with a man who is not her husband.

⁵ Moses commanded us in the laws that he gave us that we should throw stones at such women and kill them. So what do you say we should do?”

⁶ They asked this question as a trap so that they could accuse him. If he said that they should not kill her, they would shame him for disobeying the law of Moses. If he said that they should kill her, they could accuse him to the Roman governor. But Jesus bent down and wrote something on the ground with his finger.

⁷ While they continued to question him, he stood up and said to them, “Whichever one of you has never sinned can be the first one to start throwing stones at her.”

⁸ Then he stooped down and wrote some more on the ground.

⁹ After they heard what he said, those who were questioning him went away, one by one, the older ones first and then the younger ones, knowing they were all sinners. Finally only Jesus was there, along with the woman.

¹⁰ Jesus stood up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one said you must die for your sin?”

¹¹ She said, “No, sir, no one.” Then Jesus said, “I do not condemn you either. Go home now, and do not continue your sinful life any longer!”

¹² Jesus spoke to the people again. He said, “I am like a light MET for all the people in MTY the world. Just like a light reveals what has been in the darkness MET, I reveal God's truth to them. Those who walk in the darkness are unaware of what is around them. But those who become my disciples will always be aware of God's truth MET. They will have my light which shows them how to have eternal life.”

¹³ So the Pharisees said to him, “You are just telling about yourself! Since there is no one else to verify these things that you say about yourself, we do not need to accept that what you say is true.”

¹⁴ Jesus replied, “Even if I were the only one to say these things about myself, what I say is true, because I know that I came from heaven, and I know that I am going back to heaven. But you do not know where I came from or where I am going.

¹⁵ You judge people according to human standards. The reason that I am here is not ◄to condemn people/to say that I will punish people► for their sins.

¹⁶ But if I did judge people, what I decided would be correct, because I am not the only one who will decide those things. I and the one who sent me will both decide.

¹⁷ It is written { Moses wrote} in your law that if at least two people testify that some event has happened, people should consider that what they say is true.

¹⁸ I am telling you about myself, and the other one who is telling you about me is my Father who sent me. So you should believe that what we declare is true.”

¹⁹ Then they asked him, “ If you have a father whom we can question about you, where is he?” Jesus replied, “You do not know who I really am. If you knew who I really am, you would know who my Father is also.”

²⁰ He said these things when he was in the Temple courtyard, near the place where the people put their offerings. This was also very close to the place where the Jewish council met. But no one seized him to arrest him, because it was not yet time MTY for him to suffer and die.

²¹ Jesus also said to them, “I will soon be going away. Then at the end of your life you will seek me, but you will die without God forgiving your sins. Where I will go, you will not be able to come.”

²² So the Jewish leaders said among themselves, “Is he going to kill himself? Is that the reason that he said, ‘Where I go, you will not be able to come’?”

²³ But Jesus continued by saying to them, “You were born here in this world, but I came from heaven. You belong to those who are opposed to God MTY. I do not belong to them.

²⁴ I told you that you will die without God forgiving your sins. If you do not believe that I am who I say that I am, you will die without God forgiving your sins.”

²⁵ So they said to him, “You! Who do you think you are?” Jesus said to them, “Ever since I began teaching, I have been telling you who I am!

³ Now the scribes and Pharisees came, with a woman who had been taken in the act of sinning against the married relation;

⁴ And putting her forward, they said to him, Master, this woman has been taken in the very act of sinning against the married relation.

⁵ Now in the law Moses gave directions that such women were to be stoned; what do you say about it?

⁶ They said this, testing him, so that they might have something against him. But Jesus, with his head bent down, made letters on the floor with his finger.

⁷ But when they went on with their questions, he got up and said to them, Let him among you who is without sin be the first to send a stone at her.

⁸ And again, with bent head, he made letters on the floor.

⁹ And when his words came to their ears, they went out one by one, starting with the oldest even to the last, because they were conscious of what was in their hearts: and Jesus was there by himself with the woman before him.

¹⁰ Then Jesus got up, and seeing nobody but the woman, he said to her, Where are the men who said things against you? did no one give a decision against you?

¹¹ And she said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said, And I do not give a decision against you: go, and never do wrong again.

¹² Then again Jesus said to them, I am the light of the world; he who comes with me will not be walking in the dark but will have the light of life.

¹³ So the Pharisees said to him, The witness you give is about yourself: your witness is not true.

¹⁴ Jesus said in answer, Even if I give witness about myself, my witness is true, because I have knowledge of where I came from and where I am going; but you have no knowledge of where I come from or of where I am going.

¹⁵ You are judging from what you see; I am judging no man.

¹⁶ Even if I am judging, my decision is right, because I am not by myself — with me is the Father who sent me.

¹⁷ Even in your law it is said that the witness of two men is true.

¹⁸ I give witness about myself and the Father who sent me gives witness about me.

¹⁹ Then they said to him, Where is your Father? Jesus said in answer, You have no knowledge of me or of my Father: if you had knowledge of me you would have knowledge of my Father.

²⁰ Jesus said these words in the place where the offerings were stored, while he was teaching in the Temple: but no man took him because his time was still to come.

²¹ Then he said to them again, I am going away and you will be looking for me, but death will overtake you in your sins. It is not possible for you to come where I am going.

²² So the Jews said, Will he take his life? Is that why he says, Where I go it is not possible for you to come?

²³ And he said to them, You are of the earth; I am from heaven: you are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴ For this reason I said to you that death will overtake you in your sins: for if you have not faith that I am he, death will come to you while you are in your sins.

²⁵ Then they said to him, Who are you? Jesus said, What I said to you from the first.

¹¹ And she said, No one, sir. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, Even if I bear witness concerning myself, my witness is true, because I know whence I came and whither I go: but ye know not whence I come and whither I go.

¹⁵ Ye judge according to the flesh, I judge no one.

¹⁶ And if also I judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who has sent me.

¹⁷ And in your law too it is written that the testimony of two men is true:

² And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him, and sitting down he taught them.

³ And the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman taken in adultery: and they set her in the midst,

⁴ And said to him: Master, this woman was even now taken in adultery.

⁵ Now Moses in the law commanded us to stone such a one. But what sayest thou?

⁶ And this they said tempting him, that they might accuse him. But Jesus bowing himself down, wrote with his finger on the ground.

⁷ When therefore they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said to them: He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

⁸ And again stooping down, he wrote on the ground.

⁹ But they hearing this, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, and the woman standing in the midst.

¹⁰ Then Jesus lifting up himself, said to her: Woman, where are they that accused thee? Hath no man condemned thee?

¹¹ Who said: No man, Lord. And Jesus said: Neither will I condemn thee. Go, and now sin no more.

¹² Again therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

¹³ The Pharisees therefore said to him: Thou givest testimony of thyself: thy testimony is not true.

⁴ they said to Him, “Teacher, we found this woman committing adultery, in the very act.

⁵ Now Moses, in our law, commanded to cast stones at such. Therefore what do You say?”

⁶ But this they said, testing Him, that they might have an accusation against Him. But Jesus, stooping down, began to write on the ground with His finger, not taking notice.

⁷ And while they were continuing questioning Him, rising up, He said unto them, “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to cast a stone at her.”

⁸ And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

⁹ And those who heard it began to go out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman being in the midst.

¹⁰ And standing up and seeing no one but the woman, Jesus said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”

²⁵ Then they said to Him, “Who are You?” And Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

² And at dawn He went again into the temple, and all the people were coming to Him; so sitting down He started to teach them.

³ Then the scribes and the Pharisees bring to Him a woman caught in adultery; and placing her in the center

⁴ they say to Him: “Teacher, we found this woman committing adultery, in the very act.

⁵ Now in our law Moses commanded that such women are to be stoned; so what do you say?”

⁶ They said this to test Him, so that they might have an accusation against Him. But stooping down Jesus began to write on the ground with His finger, taking no notice.

⁷ But since they kept on asking Him, straightening up He said to them, “Let the one without sin among you throw the first stone at her.”

⁸ And stooping down again He continued writing on the ground.

⁹ Now upon hearing this, and being convicted by their conscience, they began to go out one by one, starting with the older ones down to the least. So only Jesus was left, with the woman in the center.

¹⁰ So straightening up, and not seeing anyone except the woman, Jesus said to her: “Where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”

¹¹ So she said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said to her: “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on don't sin any more!”

¹² Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying: “I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk around in the darkness, but will have the light of the Life.”

¹³ So the Pharisees said to Him, “You are testifying about yourself; your testimony is not valid.”

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said to them: “Even though I testify about myself, my testimony is valid, because I know where I came from and where I am going. But you do not know where I come from or where I am going.

²¹ Then Jesus said to them again: “I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come.”

²³ He said to them: “You are from below; I am from Above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴ That is why I told you that you will die in your sins, because if you do not believe that I am, you will die in your sins.”

²⁵ So they said to Him, “Who are you?” And Jesus said to them: “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

² Early in the morning he returned to the Temple where many people gathered around him and he sat down and taught them.

³ The religious teachers and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught committing adultery and made her stand before everyone.

⁴ They said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.

⁵ Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. What do you say?”

⁶ They said this to try and trap Jesus so they could condemn him. But Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger.

⁷ They kept on demanding an answer, so he stood up and told them, “Whichever one of you has never sinned may throw the first stone at her.”

⁸ Then he bent down again and went on writing on the ground.

⁹ When they heard this they began to leave, one by one, starting with the oldest until Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman still standing there.

¹⁰ Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Where are they? Didn't anybody stay to condemn you?”

¹¹ “No one did, sir,” she replied. “I don't condemn you either,” Jesus told her. “Go, and don't sin anymore.”

¹² Jesus spoke again to the people, telling them, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me you won't walk in darkness for you will have the life-giving light.”

¹³ The Pharisees replied, “You can't be your own witness! What you say doesn't prove anything!”

¹⁴ “Even if I am my own witness, my testimony is true,” Jesus told them, “for I know where I came from and where I'm going. But you don't know where I came from or where I'm going.

¹⁵ You judge in a typically human way, but I don't judge anyone.

¹⁶ Even if I did judge, my judgment would be right because I am not doing this alone. The Father who sent me is with me.

¹⁷ Your own law states that the testimony of two witnesses is valid.

¹⁸ I am my own witness, and my other witness is my Father who sent me.”

¹⁹ “Where is your father?” they asked him. “You don't know me or my Father,” Jesus replied. “If you knew me then you would know my Father as well.”

²⁰ Jesus explained this while he was teaching near the Temple treasury. Yet no one arrested him because his time had not yet come.

²¹ Jesus told them again, “I'm leaving, and you'll search for me, but you'll die in your sin. You can't come where I'm going.”

²² The Jews wondered out loud, “Is he going to kill himself? Is that what he means when he says ‘You can't come where I'm going’?”

²³ Jesus told them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴ That is why I told you that you'll die in your sins. For if you don't trust in me, the ‘I am,’ you'll die in your sins.”

²⁵ Then they asked him, “Who are you?” “Exactly who I told you I was from the beginning,” Jesus replied.

¹⁴ “Even if I bear testimony to myself,” answered Jesus, “my testimony is trustworthy; for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from, nor where I am going.

³ The Torah-Teachers and the Pharisees Separated brought a woman taken in moicheia ·adultery· and set her in the midst of Yeshua Salvation.

⁴ They told him, “Teacher, we found this woman moicheuo ·committing adultery·, in the very act.

⁵ Now in our Torah ·Teaching·, Moses Drawn out enjoined us that such a woman be stoned to death. What then do you say about her?”

⁷ But when they continued asking him, he looked up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her.”

⁸ Again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.

⁹ They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Yeshua Salvation was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle.

¹⁰ Yeshua Salvation, standing up, saw her and said, “Woman, where are your accusers? Did no one condemn you?”

¹¹ She said, “No one, Lord.” Yeshua Salvation said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more.”

¹² Again, therefore, Yeshua Salvation spoke to them, saying, “ Ena Na I AM (the Living God), the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”

¹³ The Pharisees Separated therefore said to him, “You testify about yourself. Your testimony is not valid.”

¹⁴ Yeshua Salvation answered them, “Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you don’t know where I came from, or where I am going.

¹⁵ You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.

¹⁶ Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with Abba ·Father familiar, Dear Dad· who sent me.

¹⁷ It’s also written in your Torah ·Teaching· that the testimony of two people is valid.

¹⁸ Ena Na I AM (the Living God) that testifies about myself, and Abba ·Father familiar, Dear Dad· who sent me testifies about me.”

³ And the scribes and the pharises brought vnto him a woman taken in advoutry and set hyr in the myddes

⁴ and sayde vnto him: Master this woman was taken in advoutry even as the dede was a doyng.

⁵ Moses in the lawe commaunded vs that suche shuld be stoned. What sayest thou ther fore?

⁶ And this they sayde to tempt him: that they myght have wherof to accuse him. Iesus stouped doune and with his fynger wrote on the grounde.

⁷ And whyll they continued axynge him he lyfte him selfe vp and sayde vnto them: let him that is amonge you with out synne cast the fyrst stone at her.

⁹ And assone as they hearde that they went out one by one the eldest fyrst. And Iesus was lefte a lone and the woman stondynge in the myddes.

¹⁰ When Iesus had lyfte vp him selfe agayne and sawe no man but the woman he sayde vnto hyr. Woman where are those thyne accusars? Hath no man condempned the?

¹¹ She sayde: No man Lorde. And Iesus sayde: Nether do I condempne the. Goo and synne no moare.

¹² Then spake Iesus agayne vnto them sayinge: I am the light of the worlde. He that foloweth me shall not walke in darcknes: but shall have the light of lyfe.

¹³ The pharises sayde vnto him: thou bearest recorde of thy sylfe thy recorde is not true.

¹⁴ Iesus answered and sayde vnto them: Though I beare recorde of my selfe yet my recorde is true: for I knowe whence I came and whyther I goo. But ye cannot tell whence I come and whyther I goo.

¹⁵ Ye iudge after the flesshe. I iudge no man though I iudge yet is my iudgmet true. For I am not alone: but I and the father that sent me.

¹⁶ It is also written in youre lawe that the testimony of two men is true.

¹⁷ I am one that beare witnes of my selfe and the father that sent me beareth witnes of me.

²² And he sayde vnto the: ye are from beneth I am from above. Ye are of this worlde I am not of this worlde.

²³ I sayde therfore vnto you that ye shall dye in youre synnes. For except ye beleve that I am he ye shall dye in youre synnes.

²⁴ Then sayde they vnto him who arte thou? And Iesus sayde vnto them: even the very same thinge that I saye vnto you.

²⁵ I have many thinges to saye and to iudge of you. But he that sent me is true. And I speake in the worlde those thinges which I have hearde of him.

⁴ Then they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery.

⁵ Now in the law, Moses commanded us to stone such people; what do you say about her?”

⁶ They said this in order to trap him so that they might have something to accuse him about, but Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger.

⁷ When they continued asking him questions, he stood up and said to them, “The one among you who has no sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her.”

⁸ Again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground with his finger.

⁹ When they heard it, they left one by one, beginning with the oldest. Finally Jesus was left alone, with the woman who had been in the middle.

¹⁰ Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are your accusers? Did no one condemn you?”

¹⁶ Yet if I judge, my judgment is true because I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.

¹⁷ Yes, and in your law it is written that the testimony of two men is true.

¹⁷ And in your law it is written, that the witnessing of two men is true. (And in your Law it is written, that the testimony of two men who agree is true.)

¹⁸ I am, that bear witnessing of myself, and the Father that sent me, beareth witnessing of me. (I am he, who giveth testimony about myself, and the Father who sent me, also giveth testimony about me.)

¹⁹ Therefore they said to him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Neither ye know me, nor ye know my Father; if ye knew me, peradventure ye should know also my Father.

²⁰ Jesus spake these words in the treasury, teaching in the temple; and no man took (hold of) him, for his hour came not yet, (or for his hour had not yet come, or for it was not yet his time).

²¹ Therefore again Jesus said to them, Lo! I go, and ye shall seek me, and ye shall die in your sin; whither I go, ye may not come, (or where I go, ye cannot come).

²² Therefore the Jews said, Whether he shall slay himself, for he saith, Whither I go, ye may not come? (And so the Jews said, Shall he kill himself, for he said, Where I go, ye cannot come?)

²³ And he said to them, Ye be of beneath, I am of above; ye be of this world, I am not of this world.

²⁴ Therefore I said to you, that ye shall die in your sins; for if ye believe not that I am, ye shall die in your sins.

²⁵ Therefore they said to him, Who art thou? Jesus said to them, The beginning, or the first of all thing(s), which I also speak to you, (or what I have told you).

² And eerli eft he cam in to the temple; and al the puple cam to hym; and he sat, and tauyte hem.

³ And scribis and Fariseis bryngen a womman takun in auoutrye, and thei settiden hir in the myddil,

⁴ and seiden to hym, Maystir, this womman is now takun in auoutrie.

⁵ And in the lawe Moises comaundide vs to stoone suche; therfor what seist thou?

⁶ And thei seiden this thing temptynge hym, that thei myyten accuse hym. And Jhesus bowide hym silf doun, and wroot with his fyngur in the erthe.

⁷ And whanne thei abiden axynge hym, he reiside hym silf, and seide to hem, He of you that is without synne, first caste a stoon in to hir.

⁸ And eft he bowide hym silf, and wroot in the erthe.

⁹ And thei herynge these thingis, wenten awei oon aftir anothir, and thei bigunnen fro the eldre men; and Jhesus dwelte aloone, and the womman stondynge in the myddil.

¹⁰ And Jhesus reiside hym silf, and seide to hir, Womman, where ben thei that accusiden thee? no man hath dampned thee.

¹¹ Sche seide, No man, Lord. Jhesus seide `to hir, Nethir Y schal dampne thee; go thou, and now aftirward nyle thou synne more.

¹² Therfor eft Jhesus spak to hem, and seide, Y am the liyt of the world; he that sueth me, walkith not in derknessis, but schal haue the liyt of lijf.

¹³ Therfor the Fariseis seiden, Thou berist witnessyng of thi silf; thi witnessyng is not trewe.

¹⁴ Jhesus answerde, and seide to hem, And if Y bere witnessyng of my silf, my witnessyng is trewe; for Y woot fro whennus Y cam, and whidur Y go.

¹⁵ But ye witen not fro whennus Y cam, ne whidur Y go. For ye demen aftir the fleisch, but Y deme no man;

¹⁶ and if Y deme, my doom is trewe, for Y am not aloone, but Y and the fadir that sente me.

¹⁷ And in youre lawe it is writun, that the witnessyng of twei men is trewe.

¹⁸ Y am, that bere witnessyng of my silf, and the fadir that sente me, berith witnessyng of me.

¹⁹ Therfor thei seiden to hym, Where is thi fadir? Jhesus answeride, Nether ye knowen me, nethir ye knowen my fadir; if ye knewen me, perauenture ye schulden knowe also my fadir.

²⁰ Jhesus spak these wordis in the tresorie, techynge in the temple; and no man took hym, for his our cam not yit.

²¹ Therfor eft Jhesus seide to hem, Lo! Y go, and ye schulen seke me, and ye schulen die in youre synne; whidur Y go, ye moun not come.

²² Therfor the Jewis seiden, Whether he schal sle hym silf, for he seith, Whidur Y go, ye moun not come?

²³ And he seide to hem, Ye ben of bynethe, Y am of aboue; ye ben of this world, Y am not of this world.

²⁴ Therfor Y seide to you, that ye schulen die in youre synnes; for if ye bileuen not that Y am, ye schulen die in youre synne.

²⁵ Therfor thei seiden to hym, Who art thou? Jhesus seide to hem, The bigynnyng, which also speke to you.

² and all the people were coming unto him, and having sat down, he was teaching them;

³ and the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman having been taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,

⁴ they say to him, 'Teacher, this woman was taken in the very crime — committing adultery,

⁵ and in the law, Moses did command us that such be stoned; thou, therefore, what dost thou say?'

⁶ and this they said, trying him, that they might have to accuse him. And Jesus, having stooped down, with the finger he was writing on the ground,

⁷ and when they continued asking him, having bent himself back, he said unto them, 'The sinless of you — let him first cast the stone at her;'

⁸ and again having stooped down, he was writing on the ground,

⁹ and they having heard, and by the conscience being convicted, were going forth one by one, having begun from the elders — unto the last; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

¹⁰ And Jesus having bent himself back, and having seen no one but the woman, said to her, 'Woman, where are those — thine accusers? did no one pass sentence upon thee?'

¹¹ and she said, 'No one, Sir;' and Jesus said to her, 'Neither do I pass sentence on thee; be going on, and no more sin.'

¹² Again, therefore, Jesus spake to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world; he who is following me shall not walk in the darkness, but he shall have the light of the life.'

¹³ The Pharisees, therefore, said to him, 'Thou of thyself dost testify, thy testimony is not true;'

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, 'And if I testify of myself — my testimony is true, because I have known whence I came, and whither I go, and ye — ye have not known whence I come, or whither I go.

¹⁵ 'Ye according to the flesh do judge; I do not judge any one,

¹⁶ and even if I do judge my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me;

¹⁷ and also in your law it hath been written, that the testimony of two men are true;

¹⁸ I am one who is testifying of myself, and the Father who sent me doth testify of me.'

¹⁹ They said, therefore, to him, 'Where is thy father?' Jesus answered, 'Ye have neither known me nor my Father: if me ye had known, my Father also ye had known.'

²⁰ These sayings spake Jesus in the treasury, teaching in the temple, and no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come;

²¹ therefore said Jesus again to them, 'I go away, and ye will seek me, and in your sin ye shall die; whither I go away, ye are not able to come.'

²² The Jews, therefore, said, 'Will he kill himself, because he saith, Whither I go away, ye are not able to come?'

²³ and he said to them, 'Ye are from beneath, I am from above; ye are of this world, I am not of this world;

²⁴ I said, therefore, to you, that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye may not believe that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.'

²⁵ They said, therefore, to him, 'Thou — who art thou?' and Jesus said to them, 'Even what I did speak of to you at the beginning;
