John 8:19-25 in English

¹⁹ They said therefore unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye know neither me, nor my Father: if ye knew me, ye would know my Father also.

²⁰ These words spake he in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man took him; because his hour was not yet come.

²¹ He said therefore again unto them, I go away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin: whither I go, ye cannot come.

²² The Jews therefore said, Will he kill himself, that he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come?

²³ And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴ I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for except ye believe that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

²⁵ They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? Jesus said unto them, Even that which I have also spoken unto you from the beginning.

¹⁹ Then they asked Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you had known me, you would have known my Father, too.”

²⁰ Jesus spoke these words in the treasury, as He taught in the temple. Nobody laid hands on Him, for His time had not yet come.

²¹ Jesus told them again, “I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you can’t come.”

²² Therefore the Jews were saying, “Surely He won’t kill Himself, will He, since He says, ‘Where I am going, you can’t come’?”

²³ Jesus was saying to them, “You are from below. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.

²⁴ Therefore I told you that you will die in your sins, because if you don’t believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”

²⁵ Then they asked Him, “Who are You?” Jesus told them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

¹⁹ Then they asked him, “ If you have a father whom we can question about you, where is he?” Jesus replied, “You do not know who I really am. If you knew who I really am, you would know who my Father is also.”

²⁰ He said these things when he was in the Temple courtyard, near the place where the people put their offerings. This was also very close to the place where the Jewish council met. But no one seized him to arrest him, because it was not yet time MTY for him to suffer and die.

²¹ Jesus also said to them, “I will soon be going away. Then at the end of your life you will seek me, but you will die without God forgiving your sins. Where I will go, you will not be able to come.”

²² So the Jewish leaders said among themselves, “Is he going to kill himself? Is that the reason that he said, ‘Where I go, you will not be able to come’?”

²³ But Jesus continued by saying to them, “You were born here in this world, but I came from heaven. You belong to those who are opposed to God MTY. I do not belong to them.

²⁴ I told you that you will die without God forgiving your sins. If you do not believe that I am who I say that I am, you will die without God forgiving your sins.”

²⁵ So they said to him, “You! Who do you think you are?” Jesus said to them, “Ever since I began teaching, I have been telling you who I am!

¹⁹ Then they said to him, Where is your Father? Jesus said in answer, You have no knowledge of me or of my Father: if you had knowledge of me you would have knowledge of my Father.

²⁰ Jesus said these words in the place where the offerings were stored, while he was teaching in the Temple: but no man took him because his time was still to come.

²¹ Then he said to them again, I am going away and you will be looking for me, but death will overtake you in your sins. It is not possible for you to come where I am going.

²² So the Jews said, Will he take his life? Is that why he says, Where I go it is not possible for you to come?

²³ And he said to them, You are of the earth; I am from heaven: you are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴ For this reason I said to you that death will overtake you in your sins: for if you have not faith that I am he, death will come to you while you are in your sins.

²⁵ Then they said to him, Who are you? Jesus said, What I said to you from the first.

²³ He said to them: “You are from below; I am from Above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴ That is why I told you that you will die in your sins, because if you do not believe that I am, you will die in your sins.”

²⁵ So they said to Him, “Who are you?” And Jesus said to them: “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

¹⁹ “Where is your father?” they asked him. “You don't know me or my Father,” Jesus replied. “If you knew me then you would know my Father as well.”

²⁰ Jesus explained this while he was teaching near the Temple treasury. Yet no one arrested him because his time had not yet come.

²¹ Jesus told them again, “I'm leaving, and you'll search for me, but you'll die in your sin. You can't come where I'm going.”

²² The Jews wondered out loud, “Is he going to kill himself? Is that what he means when he says ‘You can't come where I'm going’?”

²³ Jesus told them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴ That is why I told you that you'll die in your sins. For if you don't trust in me, the ‘I am,’ you'll die in your sins.”

²⁵ Then they asked him, “Who are you?” “Exactly who I told you I was from the beginning,” Jesus replied.

¹⁹ Then saide they vnto him, Where is that Father of thine? Iesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor that Father of mine. If ye had knowen me, ye should haue knowen that Father of mine also.

²⁰ These wordes spake Iesus in the treasurie, as hee taught in the Temple, and no man layde handes on him: for his houre was not yet come.

²¹ Then saide Iesus againe vnto them, I goe my way, and ye shall seeke me, and shall die in your sinnes, Whither I goe, can ye not come.

²² Then said the Iewes, Will he kill himselfe, because he saith, Whither I goe, can ye not come?

²³ And hee saide vnto them, Ye are from beneath, I am from aboue: ye are of this world, I am not of this worlde.

²⁰ Then sayde Iesus agayne vnto them. I goo my waye and ye shall seke me and shall dye in youre synnes. Whyther I goo thyther can ye not come.

²¹ Then sayde the Iewes: will he kyll him selfe because he sayth: whyther I goo thyther can ye not come?

²² And he sayde vnto the: ye are from beneth I am from above. Ye are of this worlde I am not of this worlde.

²³ I sayde therfore vnto you that ye shall dye in youre synnes. For except ye beleve that I am he ye shall dye in youre synnes.

²⁴ Then sayde they vnto him who arte thou? And Iesus sayde vnto them: even the very same thinge that I saye vnto you.

²⁵ I have many thinges to saye and to iudge of you. But he that sent me is true. And I speake in the worlde those thinges which I have hearde of him.

¹⁹ Therfor thei seiden to hym, Where is thi fadir? Jhesus answeride, Nether ye knowen me, nethir ye knowen my fadir; if ye knewen me, perauenture ye schulden knowe also my fadir.

²⁰ Jhesus spak these wordis in the tresorie, techynge in the temple; and no man took hym, for his our cam not yit.

²¹ Therfor eft Jhesus seide to hem, Lo! Y go, and ye schulen seke me, and ye schulen die in youre synne; whidur Y go, ye moun not come.

²² Therfor the Jewis seiden, Whether he schal sle hym silf, for he seith, Whidur Y go, ye moun not come?

²³ And he seide to hem, Ye ben of bynethe, Y am of aboue; ye ben of this world, Y am not of this world.

²⁴ Therfor Y seide to you, that ye schulen die in youre synnes; for if ye bileuen not that Y am, ye schulen die in youre synne.

²⁵ Therfor thei seiden to hym, Who art thou? Jhesus seide to hem, The bigynnyng, which also speke to you.

¹⁹ They said, therefore, to him, 'Where is thy father?' Jesus answered, 'Ye have neither known me nor my Father: if me ye had known, my Father also ye had known.'

²⁰ These sayings spake Jesus in the treasury, teaching in the temple, and no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come;

²¹ therefore said Jesus again to them, 'I go away, and ye will seek me, and in your sin ye shall die; whither I go away, ye are not able to come.'

²² The Jews, therefore, said, 'Will he kill himself, because he saith, Whither I go away, ye are not able to come?'

²³ and he said to them, 'Ye are from beneath, I am from above; ye are of this world, I am not of this world;

²⁴ I said, therefore, to you, that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye may not believe that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.'

²⁵ They said, therefore, to him, 'Thou — who art thou?' and Jesus said to them, 'Even what I did speak of to you at the beginning;
