¹¹ And she said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said, Neither do I condemn thee: go thy way; from henceforth sin no more.

¹² Again therefore Jesus spake unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in the darkness, but shall have the light of life.

¹³ The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest witness of thyself; thy witness is not true.

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said unto them, Even if I bear witness of myself, my witness is true; for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye know not whence I come, or whither I go.

¹⁵ Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

¹⁶ Yea and if I judge, my judgment is true; for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

¹⁷ Yea and in your law it is written, that the witness of two men is true.

¹⁸ I am he that beareth witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

¹⁹ They said therefore unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye know neither me, nor my Father: if ye knew me, ye would know my Father also.

²⁰ These words spake he in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man took him; because his hour was not yet come.

²¹ He said therefore again unto them, I go away, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sin: whither I go, ye cannot come.

²² The Jews therefore said, Will he kill himself, that he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come?

²³ And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴ I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for except ye believe that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

²⁵ They said therefore unto him, Who art thou? Jesus said unto them, Even that which I have also spoken unto you from the beginning.

²⁶ I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you: howbeit he that sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these speak I unto the world.

²⁷ They perceived not that he spake to them of the Father.

²⁸ Jesus therefore said, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but as the Father taught me, I speak these things.

²⁹ And he that sent me is with me; he hath not left me alone; for I do always the things that are pleasing to him.

³⁰ As he spake these things, many believed on him.

³¹ Jesus therefore said to those Jews that had believed him, If ye abide in my word, then are ye truly my disciples;

³² and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

³³ They answered unto him, We are Abraham’s seed, and have never yet been in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

³⁴ Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Every one that committeth sin is the bondservant of sin.

³⁵ And the bondservant abideth not in the house for ever: the son abideth for ever.

³⁶ If therefore the Son shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

³⁷ I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; yet ye seek to kill me, because my word hath not free course in you.

³⁸ I speak the things which I have seen with my Father: and ye also do the things which ye heard from your father.

³⁹ They answered and said unto him, Our father is Abraham. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

⁴⁰ But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I heard from God: this did not Abraham.

⁴¹ Ye do the works of your father. They said unto him, We were not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

⁴² Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I came forth and am come from God; for neither have I come of myself, but he sent me.

⁴³ Why do ye not understand my speech? Even because ye cannot hear my word.

⁴⁴ Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father it is your will to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and standeth not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.

⁴⁵ But because I say the truth, ye believe me not.

⁴⁶ Which of you convicteth me of sin? If I say truth, why do ye not believe me?

⁴⁷ He that is of God heareth the words of God: for this cause ye hear them not, because ye are not of God.

⁴⁸ The Jews answered and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?

⁴⁹ Jesus answered, I have not a demon; but I honor my Father, and ye dishonor me.

⁵⁰ But I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

⁵¹ Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my word, he shall never see death.

⁵² The Jews said unto him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham died, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my word, he shall never taste of death.

⁵³ Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died: whom makest thou thyself?

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father that glorifieth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God;

⁵⁵ and ye have not known him: but I know him; and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be like unto you, a liar: but I know him, and keep his word.

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day; and he saw it, and was glad.

⁵⁷ The Jews therefore said unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

¹¹ She said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.”

¹² Jesus spoke again to the people, saying, “I am the light of the world. Anyone who follows me won’t walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”

¹³ Then the Pharisees told Him, “You are testifying on your own behalf, so your testimony isn’t valid.”

¹⁴ Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid because I know where I came from and where I am going, but you don’t know where I come from or where I am going.

¹⁵ You judge by human standards, but I am not judging anyone.

¹⁶ Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.

¹⁷ It’s also written in your Law that the testimony of two men is valid.

¹⁸ I am one who bears witness of myself, and my Father who sent me bears witness of me.”

¹⁹ Then they asked Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you had known me, you would have known my Father, too.”

²⁰ Jesus spoke these words in the treasury, as He taught in the temple. Nobody laid hands on Him, for His time had not yet come.

²¹ Jesus told them again, “I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die in your sin. Where I am going, you can’t come.”

²² Therefore the Jews were saying, “Surely He won’t kill Himself, will He, since He says, ‘Where I am going, you can’t come’?”

²³ Jesus was saying to them, “You are from below. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.

²⁴ Therefore I told you that you will die in your sins, because if you don’t believe that I am He, you will die in your sins.”

²⁵ Then they asked Him, “Who are You?” Jesus told them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

²⁶ I have many things to say and judge about you, but He who sent me is true, and I speak to the world those things which I heard from Him.”

²⁷ They didn’t realize that He had been speaking to them about the Father.

²⁸ So, Jesus said, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am He, and that I do nothing on my own, but I speak these things as the Father taught me.

²⁹ He who sent me is with me. He hasn’t left me alone, because I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.”

³⁰ As Jesus spoke, many came to believe in Him.

³¹ Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you continue in my words, you are truly my disciples,

³² and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

³³ They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been slaves to anyone. How can you say that we’ll be set free?”

³⁴ Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I tell you, whoever sins is a slave of sin.

³⁵ A slave doesn’t remain in the house forever, but a son does belong forever.

³⁶ Therefore if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.

³⁷ “I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill me, because my word has no place in you.

³⁸ I talk about what I have seen with my Father, and you do what you have heard from your father.”

³⁹ They answered, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus told them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham,

⁴⁰ but now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham didn’t do this.

⁴¹ You do the deeds of your father.” Then they said to Him, “We weren’t born of fornication. We have one Father — God.”

⁴² Jesus said, “If God were your Father, you would sincerely love me, for I came from God, and now am here. I haven’t come of my own initiative, but He sent me.

⁴³ Why don’t you understand what I say? It’s because you can’t accept my words.

⁴⁴ You are of your father, the Devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature, because he is a liar, and the father of lies.

⁴⁵ Because I tell the truth, you don’t believe me.

⁴⁶ Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why don’t you believe me?

⁴⁷ Whoever is from God hears God’s words. The reason you don’t hear them is that you aren’t from God.”

⁴⁸ The Jews answered and asked Him, “Aren’t we right in saying that You are a Samaritan and have a demon?”

⁴⁹ Jesus answered, “I don’t have a demon, but I honor my Father, and you dishonor me.

⁵⁰ I don’t seek glory for myself, but there is One who seeks it, and He is the judge.

⁵¹ Most assuredly, I tell you, anyone who keeps my word will never see death.”

⁵² Then the Jews answered Him, “Now we know that You have a demon! Abraham is dead, and the prophets, and You say, ‘Anyone who keeps my word will never taste death.’

⁵³ Surely You aren’t greater than our forefather Abraham, who died? The prophets died too. Who do You claim to be?”

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, “If I honor myself, my honor is nothing. It’s my Father, who you say is your God, who honors me.

⁵⁵ Yet you haven’t come to know Him, but I know Him. If I said, ‘I don’t know Him,’ I would be a liar like you, but I do know Him and keep His word.

⁵⁶ Your forefather Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day, and he saw it and was glad.”

⁵⁷ Then the Jews said to Him, “You aren’t yet fifty years old, and You have seen Abraham?”

¹⁷ It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

¹⁸ I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

³³ They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

³⁴ Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

³⁵ And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

³⁶ If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

³⁷ I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

³⁸ I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

³⁹ They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

⁴⁰ But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

¹¹ She said, “No, sir, no one.” Then Jesus said, “I do not condemn you either. Go home now, and do not continue your sinful life any longer!”

¹² Jesus spoke to the people again. He said, “I am like a light MET for all the people in MTY the world. Just like a light reveals what has been in the darkness MET, I reveal God's truth to them. Those who walk in the darkness are unaware of what is around them. But those who become my disciples will always be aware of God's truth MET. They will have my light which shows them how to have eternal life.”

¹³ So the Pharisees said to him, “You are just telling about yourself! Since there is no one else to verify these things that you say about yourself, we do not need to accept that what you say is true.”

¹⁴ Jesus replied, “Even if I were the only one to say these things about myself, what I say is true, because I know that I came from heaven, and I know that I am going back to heaven. But you do not know where I came from or where I am going.

¹⁵ You judge people according to human standards. The reason that I am here is not ◄to condemn people/to say that I will punish people► for their sins.

¹⁶ But if I did judge people, what I decided would be correct, because I am not the only one who will decide those things. I and the one who sent me will both decide.

¹⁷ It is written { Moses wrote} in your law that if at least two people testify that some event has happened, people should consider that what they say is true.

¹⁸ I am telling you about myself, and the other one who is telling you about me is my Father who sent me. So you should believe that what we declare is true.”

¹⁹ Then they asked him, “ If you have a father whom we can question about you, where is he?” Jesus replied, “You do not know who I really am. If you knew who I really am, you would know who my Father is also.”

²⁰ He said these things when he was in the Temple courtyard, near the place where the people put their offerings. This was also very close to the place where the Jewish council met. But no one seized him to arrest him, because it was not yet time MTY for him to suffer and die.

²¹ Jesus also said to them, “I will soon be going away. Then at the end of your life you will seek me, but you will die without God forgiving your sins. Where I will go, you will not be able to come.”

²² So the Jewish leaders said among themselves, “Is he going to kill himself? Is that the reason that he said, ‘Where I go, you will not be able to come’?”

²³ But Jesus continued by saying to them, “You were born here in this world, but I came from heaven. You belong to those who are opposed to God MTY. I do not belong to them.

²⁴ I told you that you will die without God forgiving your sins. If you do not believe that I am who I say that I am, you will die without God forgiving your sins.”

²⁵ So they said to him, “You! Who do you think you are?” Jesus said to them, “Ever since I began teaching, I have been telling you who I am!

²⁶ I could judge you and say that you are guilty of many things. But instead, I will say only what the one who sent me tells me to say. What he says is true, and I tell the people in the world MTY what I have heard from him.”

²⁷ They did not understand that he was talking about his Father in heaven.

²⁸ So Jesus said, “I am the one who came down from heaven, but when you lift me up on a cross to kill me, you will know who I am. You will also know that I do not do anything with my own authority. Instead, I say just what my Father has taught me.

²⁹ He is the one who sent me, and he helps me. Because I always do the things that please him, he has never abandoned me.”

³⁰ As Jesus was saying these things, many people believed that he was ◄ from God/the Messiah►.

³¹ Then Jesus said to the Jews who now said they believed in him, “If you continue to live in accordance with my message, you will truly be my disciples.

³² Then you will know God's truth, and as a result of your believing his truth, he PRS will free you from being controlled by the one who has made you his slaves.”

³³ They replied to him, “We are descendants of Abraham. We have never been anyone's slaves. So why do you say we will be freed from being someone's slaves?”

³⁴ Jesus replied, “Listen carefully to what I am going to tell you. All those who continue to sin are forced to obey their sinful desires MET, just like a slave is forced to obey his master.

³⁵ A slave is not a permanent member of a family. But a son is a member of a family forever. Similarly, you say you are members of God's family because you are descendants of Abraham, but really, because you are like slaves of your sinful desires, you are no longer permanent members of God's family.

³⁶ So if you allow me to free you, you will truly be free.

³⁷ I know that you are Abraham's descendants. But you are trying to kill me because you are not allowing PRS my message to continue to change your inner being.

³⁸ I am telling you what I saw when I was with my Father. But you do the things that you have heard from your father.”

³⁹ They replied to him, “Abraham is our ancestor.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham's descendants, your character would be like Abraham's character, and you would do good things like Abraham did.

⁴⁰ I have been telling you the truth that I heard from God, but you are trying to kill me. Abraham did not do things like that.

⁴¹ No! You are doing the things that your real father does.” They said to him, “ We do not know about you, but we are not illegitimate children. And spiritually, we have only one Father. That is God, and you do not know who your father is!”

⁴² Jesus said to them, “If God were your father, you would love me, because I came from God, and now I have come here to this world. My coming was not ◄because I appointed myself/with my own authority►. He sent me.

⁴³ ◄And I will tell you why you do not understand what I say./Do you know why you do not understand what I say?► RHQ It is because you do not want to accept my message.

⁴⁴ You belong to your father, ◄the devil/Satan►, and you desire to do what he wants. He has caused people to become murderers from the time when people first sinned. He has abandoned God's truth because he is a liar by his nature. Whenever he lies, he is speaking according to his nature, because he is a liar and is the one who originates MET all lies.

⁴⁵ But because I tell you the truth, you do not believe me!

⁴⁶ Since I have never sinned, ◄none of you can show that I have sinned./can anyone among you show that I have sinned?► RHQ So, since I tell you the truth, ◄there is no good reason for your not believing me!/why is it that you do not believe me?► RHQ

⁴⁷ Those who belong to God habitually obey God's message. You do not belong to God, so you do not obey his message.”

⁴⁸ The Jewish leaders SYN replied to him, “◄We are certainly right by saying that you believe what is false as the Samaritans do!/Are we not right by saying that you believe what is false as the Samaritans do?► RHQ And that ◄a demon/an evil spirit► controls you!”

⁴⁹ Jesus replied, “A demon does not control me! I honor my Father, and you do not honor me!

⁵⁰ I am not trying to honor myself. There is someone else who desires to honor me, and he is the one who will judge whether it is I who am telling the truth or whether it is you who are telling the truth.

⁵¹ But the truth is that anyone who obeys what I say will never die!”

⁵² Then the Jewish leaders SYN, thinking that he was talking about ordinary death and not about spiritual death, said to him, “Now we are sure that a demon controls you! Abraham and the prophets died long ago! But you say that anyone who obeys what you teach will never die!

⁵³ ◄You are certainly not greater than our ancestor Abraham!/Do you think you are greater than our ancestor Abraham?► RHQ He died, and all the prophets died, so who do you think you are by saying something like that?”

⁵⁴ Jesus replied, “If I were honoring myself, that would be worthless. My Father is the one who you say is your God. He is the one who honors me.

⁵⁵ Although you do not know him, I know him and have a close relationship with him. If I said that I did not know him, I would be a liar like you are. But I know him, and I obey what he says.

⁵⁶ Your ancestor Abraham was happy when he thought about what I would do during my life MTY. It was as though he saw that, and was happy.”

⁵⁷ Then the Jewish leaders SYN said to him, “You are not fifty years old yet! So ◄you certainly did not see him!/how could you have seen him?► RHQ Because he died long ago!”

¹¹ She said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more.”

¹² Again, therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”

¹³ The Pharisees therefore said to him, “You testify about yourself. Your testimony is not valid.”

¹⁴ Jesus answered them, “Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you don’t know where I came from, or where I am going.

¹⁵ You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.

¹⁶ Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.

¹⁷ It’s also written in your law that the testimony of two people is valid.

¹⁸ I am one who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent me testifies about me.”

¹⁹ They said therefore to him, “Where is your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.”

²⁰ Jesus spoke these words in the treasury, as he taught in the temple. Yet no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.

²¹ Jesus said therefore again to them, “I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sins. Where I go, you can’t come.”

²² The Jews therefore said, “Will he kill himself, because he says, ‘Where I am going, you can’t come’?”

²³ He said to them, “You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.

²⁴ I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.”

²⁵ They said therefore to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

²⁶ I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you. However, he who sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these I say to the world.”

²⁷ They didn’t understand that he spoke to them about the Father.

²⁸ Jesus therefore said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and I do nothing of myself, but as my Father taught me, I say these things.

²⁹ He who sent me is with me. The Father hasn’t left me alone, for I always do the things that are pleasing to him.”

³⁰ As he spoke these things, many believed in him.

³¹ Jesus therefore said to those Jews who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples.

³² You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

³³ They answered him, “We are Abraham’s offspring, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How do you say, ‘You will be made free’?”

³⁴ Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin.

³⁵ A bondservant doesn’t live in the house forever. A son remains forever.

³⁶ If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

³⁷ I know that you are Abraham’s offspring, yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you.

³⁸ I say the things which I have seen with my Father; and you also do the things which you have seen with your father.”

³⁹ They answered him, “Our father is Abraham.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham.

⁴⁰ But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham didn’t do this.

⁴¹ You do the works of your father.” They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God.”

⁴² Therefore Jesus said to them, “If God were your father, you would love me, for I came out and have come from God. For I haven’t come of myself, but he sent me.

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies.

⁵¹ Most certainly, I tell you, if a person keeps my word, he will never see death.”

⁵² Then the Jews said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham died, as did the prophets; and you say, ‘If a man keeps my word, he will never taste of death.’

⁵³ Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died? The prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?”

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is our God.

⁵⁵ You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, ‘I don’t know him,’ I would be like you, a liar. But I know him and keep his word.

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it and was glad.”

⁵⁷ The Jews therefore said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old! Have you seen Abraham?”

¹² Then again Jesus said to them, I am the light of the world; he who comes with me will not be walking in the dark but will have the light of life.

¹³ So the Pharisees said to him, The witness you give is about yourself: your witness is not true.

¹⁴ Jesus said in answer, Even if I give witness about myself, my witness is true, because I have knowledge of where I came from and where I am going; but you have no knowledge of where I come from or of where I am going.

¹⁵ You are judging from what you see; I am judging no man.

¹⁶ Even if I am judging, my decision is right, because I am not by myself — with me is the Father who sent me.

¹⁷ Even in your law it is said that the witness of two men is true.

¹⁸ I give witness about myself and the Father who sent me gives witness about me.

¹⁹ Then they said to him, Where is your Father? Jesus said in answer, You have no knowledge of me or of my Father: if you had knowledge of me you would have knowledge of my Father.

²⁰ Jesus said these words in the place where the offerings were stored, while he was teaching in the Temple: but no man took him because his time was still to come.

²¹ Then he said to them again, I am going away and you will be looking for me, but death will overtake you in your sins. It is not possible for you to come where I am going.

²² So the Jews said, Will he take his life? Is that why he says, Where I go it is not possible for you to come?

²³ And he said to them, You are of the earth; I am from heaven: you are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴ For this reason I said to you that death will overtake you in your sins: for if you have not faith that I am he, death will come to you while you are in your sins.

²⁵ Then they said to him, Who are you? Jesus said, What I said to you from the first.

²⁶ I have much to say about you and against you: but he who sent me is true and what he has said to me I say to the world.

²⁷ They did not see that his words were about the Father.

²⁸ So Jesus said, When the Son of man has been lifted up by you, then it will be clear to you who I am, and that I do nothing of myself, but say as the Father gave me teaching.

²⁹ He who sent me is with me; he has not gone from me, because at all times I do the things which are pleasing to him.

³⁰ When he said this a number came to have faith in him.

³¹ Then Jesus said to the Jews who had faith in him, If you keep my word, then you are truly my disciples;

³² And you will have knowledge of what is true, and that will make you free.

³³ They said to him in answer, We are Abraham's seed and have never been any man's servant: why do you say, You will become free?

³⁴ And this was the answer Jesus gave them: Truly I say to you, Everyone who does evil is the servant of sin.

³⁵ Now the servant does not go on living in the house for ever, but the son does.

³⁶ If then the son makes you free, you will be truly free.

³⁷ I am conscious that you are Abraham's seed; but you have a desire to put me to death because my word has no place in you.

³⁸ I say the things which I have seen in my Father's house: and you do the things which come to you from your father's house.

³⁹ In answer they said to him, Our father is Abraham. Jesus said to them, If you were Abraham's children you would do what Abraham did.

⁴⁰ But now you have a desire to put me to death, a man who has said to you what is true, as I had it from God: Abraham did not do that.

⁴¹ You are doing the works of your father. They said to him, We are true sons of Abraham; we have one Father, who is God.

⁴² Jesus said to them, If God was your Father you would have love for me, because it was from God I came and am here. I did not come of myself, but he sent me.

⁴³ Why are my words not clear to you? It is because your ears are shut to my teaching.

⁴⁴ You are the children of your father the Evil One and it is your pleasure to do his desires. From the first he was a taker of life; and he did not go in the true way because there is no true thing in him. When he says what is false, it is natural to him, for he is false and the father of what is false.

⁴⁵ But because I say what is true, you have no belief in me.

⁴⁶ Which of you is able truly to say that I am a sinner? If I say what is true, why have you no belief in me?

⁴⁷ He who is a child of God gives ear to the words of God: your ears are not open to them because you are not from God.

⁴⁸ The Jews said to him in answer, Are we not right in saying that you are of Samaria and have an evil spirit?

⁴⁹ And this was the answer of Jesus: I have not an evil spirit; but I give honour to my Father and you do not give honour to me.

⁵⁰ I, however, am not in search of glory for myself: there is One who is searching for it and he is judge.

⁵¹ Truly I say to you, If a man keeps my word he will never see death.

⁵² The Jews said to him, Now we are certain that you have an evil spirit. Abraham is dead, and the prophets are dead; and you say, If a man keeps my word he will never see death.

⁵³ Are you greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead: who do you say that you are?

⁵⁴ Jesus said in answer, If I take glory for myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father who gives me glory, of whom you say that he is your God.

⁵⁵ You have no knowledge of him, but I have knowledge of him; and if I said I have no knowledge of him I would be talking falsely like you: but I have full knowledge of him, and I keep his word.

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham was full of joy at the hope of seeing my day: he saw it and was glad.

⁵⁷ Then the Jews said to him, You are not fifty years old; have you seen Abraham?

¹¹ And she said, No one, sir. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

¹² Again therefore Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world; he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

¹³ The Pharisees therefore said to him, Thou bearest witness concerning thyself; thy witness is not true.

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, Even if I bear witness concerning myself, my witness is true, because I know whence I came and whither I go: but ye know not whence I come and whither I go.

¹⁶ And if also I judge, my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who has sent me.

³¹ Jesus therefore said to the Jews who believed him, If ye abide in my word, ye are truly my disciples;

³² and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.

³³ They answered him, We are Abraham's seed, and have never been under bondage to any one; how sayest thou, Ye shall become free?

³⁴ Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Every one that practises sin is the bondman of sin.

³⁵ Now the bondman abides not in the house for ever: the son abides for ever.

³⁶ If therefore the Son shall set you free, ye shall be really free.

³⁷ I know that ye are Abraham's seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word has no entrance in you.

³⁸ I speak what I have seen with my Father, and ye then do what ye have seen with your father.

³⁹ They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus says to them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham;

⁴⁰ but now ye seek to kill me, a man who has spoken the truth to you, which I have heard from God: this did not Abraham.

⁴¹ Ye do the works of your father. They said therefore to him, We are not born of fornication; we have one father, God.

⁴² Jesus said to them, If God were your father ye would have loved me, for I came forth from God and am come from him; for neither am I come of myself, but he has sent me.

⁴³ Why do ye not know my speech? Because ye cannot hear my word.

⁴⁴ Ye are of the devil, as your father, and ye desire to do the lusts of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks falsehood, he speaks of what is his own; for he is a liar and its father:

⁴⁵ and because I speak the truth, ye do not believe me.

⁴⁶ Which of you convinces me of sin? If I speak truth, why do ye not believe me?

⁴⁷ He that is of God hears the words of God: therefore ye hear them not, because ye are not of God.

⁴⁸ The Jews answered and said to him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan and hast a demon?

⁴⁹ Jesus answered, I have not a demon; but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me.

⁵⁰ But I do not seek my own glory: there is he that seeks and judges.

⁵¹ Verily, verily, I say unto you, If any one shall keep my word, he shall never see death.

⁵² The Jews therefore said to him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham has died, and the prophets, and thou sayest, If any one keep my word, he shall never taste death.

⁵³ Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who has died? and the prophets have died: whom makest thou thyself?

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing: it is my Father who glorifies me, of whom ye say, He is our God.

⁵⁵ And ye know him not; but I know him; and if I said, I know him not, I should be like you, a liar. But I know him, and I keep his word.

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham exulted in that he should see my day, and he saw and rejoiced.

⁵⁷ The Jews therefore said to him, Thou hast not yet fifty years, and hast thou seen Abraham?

¹¹ Who said: No man, Lord. And Jesus said: Neither will I condemn thee. Go, and now sin no more.

¹² Again therefore, Jesus spoke to them, saying: I am the light of the world: he that followeth me, walketh not in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

¹³ The Pharisees therefore said to him: Thou givest testimony of thyself: thy testimony is not true.

¹⁴ Jesus answered, and said to them: Although I give testimony of myself, my testimony is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go: but you know not whence I come, or whither I go.

¹⁵ You judge according to the flesh: I judge not any man.

¹⁶ And if I do judge, my judgment is true: because I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

¹⁷ And in your law it is written, that the testimony of two men is true.

¹⁸ I am one that give testimony of myself: and the Father that sent me giveth testimony of me.

¹⁹ They said therefore to him: Where is thy Father? Jesus answered: Neither me do you know, nor my Father: if you did know me, perhaps you would know my Father also.

²⁰ These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, teaching in the temple: and no man laid hands on him, because his hour was not yet come.

²¹ Again therefore Jesus said to them: I go, and you shall seek me, and you shall die in your sin. Whither I go, you cannot come.

²² The Jews therefore said: Will he kill himself, because he said: Whither I go, you cannot come?

²³ And he said to them: You are from beneath, I am from above. You are of this world, I am not of this world.

²⁴ Therefore I said to you, that you shall die in your sins. For if you believe not that I am he, you shall die in your sin.

²⁵ They said therefore to him: Who art thou? Jesus said to them: The beginning, who also speak unto you.

²⁶ Many things I have to speak and to judge of you. But he that sent me, is true: and the things I have heard of him, these same I speak in the world.

²⁷ And they understood not, that he called God his Father.

²⁸ Jesus therefore said to them: When you shall have lifted up the Son of man, then shall you know, that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself, but as the Father hath taught me, these things I speak:

²⁹ And he that sent me, is with me, and he hath not left me alone: for I do always the things that please him.

³⁰ When he spoke these things, many believed in him.

³¹ Then Jesus said to those Jews, who believed him: If you continue in my word, you shall be my disciples indeed.

³² And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

³³ They answered him: We are the seed of Abraham, and we have never been slaves to any man: how sayest thou: you shall be free?

³⁴ Jesus answered them: Amen, amen I say unto you: that whosoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin.

³⁵ Now the servant abideth not in the house for ever; but the son abideth for ever.

³⁶ If therefore the son shall make you free, you shall be free indeed.

³⁷ I know that you are the children of Abraham: but you seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

³⁸ I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and you do the things that you have seen with your father.

³⁹ They answered, and said to him: Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them: If you be the children of Abraham, do the works of Abraham.

⁴⁰ But now you seek to kill me, a man who have spoken the truth to you, which I have heard of God. This Abraham did not.

⁴¹ You do the works of your father. They said therefore to him: We are not born of fornication: we have one Father, even God.

⁴² Jesus therefore said to them: If God were your Father, you would indeed love me. For from God I proceeded, and came; for I came not of myself, but he sent me:

⁴⁹ Jesus answered: I have not a devil: but I honour my Father, and you have dishonoured me.

⁵⁰ But I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

⁵¹ Amen, amen I say to you: If any man keep my word, he shall not see death for ever.

⁵² The Jews therefore said: Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest: If any man keep my word, he shall not taste death for ever.

⁵⁶ Abraham your father rejoiced that he might see my day: he saw it, and was glad.

⁵⁷ The Jews therefore said to him: Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

¹¹ She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”

¹² Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He that follows Me shall by no means walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

¹³ Therefore the Pharisees said to Him, “You testify about Yourself; Your testimony is not true.”

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I should testify about Myself, My testimony is true, because I know where I came from and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from or where I am going.

¹⁵ You judge according to the flesh; I judge no one.

¹⁶ But even if I do judge, My judgment is true; because I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent Me.

¹⁷ It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.

¹⁸ I am the One testifying about Myself, and the Father who sent Me testifies about Me.”

¹⁹ Then they said to Him, “Where is Your Father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither Me nor My Father. If you knew Me, you would also know My Father.”

²⁰ These words Jesus spoke in the treasury, while teaching in the temple; and no one seized Him, for His time had not yet come.

²¹ Then Jesus said to them again, “I am going away, and you will seek Me, and will die in your sin. Where I go you cannot come.”

²² So the Jews said, “Surely He will not kill Himself, will He, since He says, ‘Where I am going you cannot come’?”

²³ And He said to them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are from this world; I am not from this world.

²⁴ Therefore I said to you that you will die in your sins; for if you do not believe that I AM, you will die in your sins.”

²⁵ Then they said to Him, “Who are You?” And Jesus said to them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

²⁶ I have many things to say and to judge concerning you, but He who sent Me is true; and the things which I heard from Him, these things I say to the world.”

²⁷ They did not know that He was speaking to them about the Father.

²⁸ Therefore Jesus said to them, “When you lift up the Son of Man, then you will know that I AM, and from Myself I do nothing; but just as My Father taught Me, these things I speak.

²⁹ And He who sent Me is with Me. The Father has not left Me alone, because I always do the things that are pleasing to Him.”

³⁰ While He spoke these words, many believed in Him.

³¹ Then Jesus said to those Jews who had believed Him, “If you abide in My word, truly you are My disciples.

³² And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall set you free.”

³³ They answered Him, “We are Abraham's descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can you say, ‘You will become free’?”

³⁴ Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly I say to you, that everyone that practices sin is a slave of sin.

³⁵ And a slave does not remain in the house forever, but a son remains forever.

³⁶ Therefore if the Son sets you free, you will be truly free.

³⁷ “I know that you are Abraham's seed, but you seek to kill Me, because My word finds no place in you.

³⁸ I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father.”

³⁹ They answered and said to Him, “Abraham is our father.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham.

⁴⁰ But now you seek to kill Me, a Man who has spoken to you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.

⁴¹ You do the works of your father.” Then they said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father—God.”

⁴² Therefore Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would have loved Me, for I came forth and have come from God; nor have I come from Myself, but He sent Me.

⁴³ Why do you not understand what I say? Because you are unable to hear My word.

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father you desire to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he tells a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar, and the father of lies.

⁴⁵ But because I tell the truth, you do not believe Me.

⁴⁶ Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me?

⁴⁷ He who is of God hears God's words; therefore you do not hear them, because you are not of God.”

⁴⁸ Then the Jews answered and said to Him, “Do we not say well that You are a Samaritan, and You have a demon?”

⁴⁹ Jesus answered, “I do not have a demon; but I honor My Father, and you dishonor Me.

⁵⁰ And I do not seek My own glory; there is One who seeks it and who judges.

⁵¹ Most assuredly I say to you, if anyone keeps My word he shall by no means experience death.”

⁵² Then the Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon! Abraham and the prophets died, and You say, ‘If anyone keeps My word he shall by no means taste death.’

⁵³ Are You greater than our father Abraham, who died? Also the prophets died. Whom do You make Yourself out to be?”

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, “If I glorify Myself, My glory is nothing. It is My Father who glorifies Me, of whom you say that He is our God.

⁵⁵ And yet you have not known Him, but I know Him. And if I would say that I do not know Him, I would be like you, a liar; but I do know Him, and I keep His word.

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced to see My day, and he saw it and was glad.”

⁵⁷ Then the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have You seen Abraham?”

¹¹ So she said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said to her: “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on don't sin any more!”

¹² Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying: “I am the Light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk around in the darkness, but will have the light of the Life.”

¹³ So the Pharisees said to Him, “You are testifying about yourself; your testimony is not valid.”

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said to them: “Even though I testify about myself, my testimony is valid, because I know where I came from and where I am going. But you do not know where I come from or where I am going.

¹⁵ You are judging according to the flesh; I am not judging anyone.

¹⁶ Yet even if I do judge, my judging is valid, in that I am not alone in judging, but I and the Father who sent me are together.

¹⁷ It is written precisely in your law that the testimony of two men is valid:

¹⁸ I am one testifying concerning myself and the Father who sent me testifies concerning me.”

¹⁹ Then they said to Him, “Where is your father?” Jesus answered: “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me you would also know my Father.”

²⁰ Jesus spoke these words in the treasury, while teaching in the temple; yet no one arrested Him, because His time had not yet come.

²¹ Then Jesus said to them again: “I am going away, and you will look for me, and you will die in your sin. Where I am going you cannot come.”

²² So the Jews said, “He won't kill himself, will he, since he says, ‘Where I am going you cannot come’?”

²³ He said to them: “You are from below; I am from Above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴ That is why I told you that you will die in your sins, because if you do not believe that I am, you will die in your sins.”

²⁵ So they said to Him, “Who are you?” And Jesus said to them: “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

²⁶ I have many things to say and to judge about you, but He who sent me is true, and what I myself have heard from Him—these things I say to the world.”

²⁷ They did not understand that He was speaking to them about the Father.

²⁸ Then Jesus said to them: “When you lift up the Son of the Man, then you will know that I am and that I do nothing from myself; but just as my Father has taught me, these things I speak.

³³ They answered and said to Him: “We are descendants of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How can you say, ‘You will be made free’?”

³⁴ Jesus answered them: “I tell you most assuredly that everyone committing sin is a slave of sin.

³⁵ Now the slave does not remain in the household forever; the son does remain forever.

³⁶ Therefore, if the Son should make you free, you really will be free.

³⁷ I know that you are descendants of Abraham, but you are wanting to kill me because my word finds no place in you.

³⁸ On my part, I speak what I have observed with my Father, while on your part you do what you have observed with your father.”

³⁹ They answered and said to Him, “Our father is Abraham!” Jesus says to them: “If you were children of Abraham, you would do the works of Abraham;

⁴⁰ but now you are wanting to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. This sort of thing Abraham did not do!

⁴¹ You do the works of your father.” Then they said to Him, “We were not born of fornication; we have one Father—God.”

⁴² So Jesus said to them: “If God were your Father, you would love me, because I came forth from God and I am here. Further, I have not come on my own, but He sent me.

⁴³ Why don't you understand what I say?—because you are not able to really hear my word.

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and it is the desires of your father that you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning and has not stood in the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he speaks the lie he speaks from his own things, because he is a liar and the father of lying.

⁴⁵ But since I speak the truth you do not believe me.

⁴⁶ Which of you convicts me of sin? So if I speak the truth, why do you not believe me?

⁴⁷ The one who is of God hears God's words; that is why you do not hear, because you are not of God.”

⁴⁸ So the Jews answered and said to Him, “We say that you are a Samaritan and have a demon—are we wrong?”

⁴⁹ Jesus answered: “ I do not have a demon; rather, I honor my Father, while you dishonor me.

⁵⁰ Yet I do not seek my glory; there is One who seeks and judges.

⁵¹ Most assuredly I say to you, if anyone should keep my word he will never ever see death.”

⁵² So the Jews said to Him: “Now we know that you have a demon! Abraham died and so did the prophets; yet you say, ‘If anyone should keep my word he will never ever taste death’!

⁵³ Surely you aren't greater than our father Abraham, who died? And the prophets are dead. Who do you make yourself out to be?”

⁵⁴ Jesus answered: “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’

⁵⁵ Yet you have not known Him, but I do know Him. And if I should say that I do not know Him I would be a liar just like you (pl); but I do know Him and I keep His word.

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham was overjoyed to see my day; yes, he saw it and rejoiced.”

⁵⁷ So the Jews said to Him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and you have seen Abraham?!”

¹¹ “No one did, sir,” she replied. “I don't condemn you either,” Jesus told her. “Go, and don't sin anymore.”

¹² Jesus spoke again to the people, telling them, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me you won't walk in darkness for you will have the life-giving light.”

¹³ The Pharisees replied, “You can't be your own witness! What you say doesn't prove anything!”

¹⁴ “Even if I am my own witness, my testimony is true,” Jesus told them, “for I know where I came from and where I'm going. But you don't know where I came from or where I'm going.

¹⁵ You judge in a typically human way, but I don't judge anyone.

¹⁶ Even if I did judge, my judgment would be right because I am not doing this alone. The Father who sent me is with me.

¹⁷ Your own law states that the testimony of two witnesses is valid.

¹⁸ I am my own witness, and my other witness is my Father who sent me.”

¹⁹ “Where is your father?” they asked him. “You don't know me or my Father,” Jesus replied. “If you knew me then you would know my Father as well.”

²⁰ Jesus explained this while he was teaching near the Temple treasury. Yet no one arrested him because his time had not yet come.

²¹ Jesus told them again, “I'm leaving, and you'll search for me, but you'll die in your sin. You can't come where I'm going.”

²² The Jews wondered out loud, “Is he going to kill himself? Is that what he means when he says ‘You can't come where I'm going’?”

²³ Jesus told them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴ That is why I told you that you'll die in your sins. For if you don't trust in me, the ‘I am,’ you'll die in your sins.”

²⁵ Then they asked him, “Who are you?” “Exactly who I told you I was from the beginning,” Jesus replied.

²⁶ “There's much I could say about you, and much I could condemn. But the one who sent me tells the truth, and what I'm saying to you here in this world is what I heard from him.”

²⁷ They didn't understand that he was talking to them about the Father. So Jesus explained to them:

²⁸ “When you have lifted up the Son of man then you'll know that I am the ‘I am,’ and that I do nothing of myself, but only say what the Father taught me.

²⁹ The one who sent me is with me; he has not abandoned me, for I always do what pleases him.”

³⁰ Many who heard Jesus say these things put their trust in him.

³¹ Then Jesus said to those Jews who trusted in him, “If you follow my teaching then you really are my disciples.

³² You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

³³ “We're descendants of Abraham! We've never been slaves to anyone,” they answered. “How can you say that we'll be set free?”

³⁴ Jesus replied, “I tell you the truth, everyone who sins is a slave of sin.

³⁵ A slave doesn't have a permanent place in the family, but the son is part of the family forever.

³⁶ If the Son sets you free, then you're truly free.

³⁷ I know you're Abraham's descendants, yet you're trying to kill me because you refuse to accept my words.

³⁸ I'm telling you what the Father has revealed to me, while you do what your father told you.”

³⁹ “Abraham is our father,” they answered. “If you really were children of Abraham, you'd do what Abraham did,” Jesus told them.

⁴⁰ “But you are trying to kill me now, because I told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham would never have done that.

⁴¹ You're doing what your father does.” “Well we are not illegitimate,” they responded. “God alone is our father!”

⁴² Jesus replied, “If God really was your father, you would love me. I came from God and now I am here. The decision to come wasn't mine, but the one who sent me.

⁴³ Why can't you understand what I'm saying? It's because you refuse to hear my message!

⁴⁴ Your father is the Devil, and you love to follow your father's evil desires. He was a murderer from the beginning. He never stood for the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies he reveals his true character, for he's a liar and the father of lies.

⁴⁵ So because I tell you the truth, you don't believe me!

⁴⁶ Can any one of you prove that I'm guilty of sin? If I'm telling you the truth, why don't you believe me?

⁴⁷ Anyone who belongs to God listens to what God says. The reason you don't listen is because you don't belong to God.”

⁴⁸ “Aren't we right to call you a Samaritan who is demon-possessed?” said the Jews.

⁴⁹ “No, I don't have a demon,” Jesus replied. “I honor my Father, but you dishonor me.

⁵⁰ I'm not here looking to glorify myself. But there is one who does this for me and who judges in my favor.

⁵¹ I tell you the truth, anyone who follows my teaching will never die.”

⁵² “Now we know you're demon-possessed,” said the Jews. “Abraham died, and the prophets did too, and you're telling us ‘anyone who follows my teaching will never die’!

⁵³ Are you greater than our father Abraham? He died, and the prophets died. Who do you think you are?”

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory means nothing. But it is God himself who glorifies me, the one you claim, ‘He is our God.’

⁵⁵ You don't know him, but I know him. If I were to say, ‘I don't know him,’ I'd be a liar, just like you. But I do know him, and I do what he says.

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham was delighted as he looked forward to see my coming, and was so happy when he saw it.”

⁵⁷ The Jews replied, “You're not even fifty years old, and you've seen Abraham?”

¹¹ She said, No man, Lord. And Iesus said, Neither do I condemne thee: go and sinne no more.

¹² Then spake Iesus againe vnto them, saying, I am that light of the worlde: hee that followeth mee, shall not walke in darkenes, but shall haue that light of life.

¹³ The Pharises therefore saide vnto him, Thou bearest recorde of thy selfe: thy recorde is not true.

¹⁴ Iesus answered, and sayde vnto them, Though I beare recorde of my selfe, yet my recorde is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go: but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I goe.

¹⁵ Ye iudge after the flesh: I iudge no man.

¹⁶ And if I also iudge, my iudgement is true: for I am not alone, but I, and the Father, that sent mee.

¹⁷ And it is also written in your Lawe, that the testimonie of two men is true.

¹⁸ I am one that beare witnes of my selfe, and the Father that sent me, beareth witnes of me.

¹⁹ Then saide they vnto him, Where is that Father of thine? Iesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor that Father of mine. If ye had knowen me, ye should haue knowen that Father of mine also.

²⁰ These wordes spake Iesus in the treasurie, as hee taught in the Temple, and no man layde handes on him: for his houre was not yet come.

²¹ Then saide Iesus againe vnto them, I goe my way, and ye shall seeke me, and shall die in your sinnes, Whither I goe, can ye not come.

²² Then said the Iewes, Will he kill himselfe, because he saith, Whither I goe, can ye not come?

²³ And hee saide vnto them, Ye are from beneath, I am from aboue: ye are of this world, I am not of this worlde.

²⁴ I said therefore vnto you, That ye shall die in your sinnes: for except ye beleeue, that I am he, ye shall die in your sinnes.

²⁵ Then saide they vnto him, Who art thou? And Iesus saide vnto them, Euen the same thing that I said vnto you from the beginning.

²⁶ I haue many things to say, and to iudge of you: but he that sent me, is true, and the things that I haue heard of him, those speake I to the world.

²⁷ They vnderstoode not that hee spake to them of the Father.

²⁸ Then said Iesus vnto them, When ye haue lift vp the Sonne of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I doe nothing of my selfe, but as my Father hath taught me, so I speake these things.

²⁹ For he that sent me, is with me: the Father hath not left me alone, because I do alwayes those things that please him.

³⁰ As hee spake these thinges, many beleeued in him.

³¹ Then saide Iesus to the Iewes which beleeued in him, If ye continue in my worde, ye are verely my disciples,

³² And shall know the trueth, and the trueth shall make you free.

³³ They answered him, Wee be Abrahams seede, and were neuer bonde to any man: why sayest thou then, Ye shalbe made free?

³⁴ Iesus answered them, Verely, verely I say vnto you, that whosoeuer committeth sinne, is the seruant of sinne.

³⁵ And the seruant abideth not in the house for euer: but the Sonne abideth for euer.

³⁶ If that Sonne therefore shall make you free, ye shalbe free in deede.

³⁷ I know that ye are Abrahams seede, but yee seeke to kill mee, because my worde hath no place in you.

³⁸ I speake that which I haue seene with my Father: and ye doe that which ye haue seene with your father.

³⁹ They answered, and saide vnto him, Abraham is our father. Iesus said vnto them, If ye were Abrahams children, ye woulde doe the workes of Abraham.

⁴⁰ But nowe ye goe about to kill mee, a man that haue told you the trueth, which I haue heard of God: this did not Abraham.

⁴¹ Ye do the workes of your father. Then said they to him, We are not borne of fornication: we haue one Father, which is God.

⁴² Therefore Iesus sayde vnto them, If God were your Father, then woulde ye loue mee: for I proceeded foorth, and came from God, neither came I of my selfe, but he sent me.

⁴³ Why doe ye not vnderstande my talke? because ye cannot heare my worde.

⁴⁴ Ye are of your father the deuill, and the lustes of your father ye will doe: hee hath bene a murtherer from the beginning, and abode not in the trueth, because there is no trueth in him. When hee speaketh a lie, then speaketh hee of his owne: for he is a liar, and the father thereof.

⁴⁵ And because I tell you the trueth, yee beleeue me not.

⁴⁶ Which of you can rebuke me of sinne? and if I say the trueth, why do ye not beleeue me?

⁴⁷ He that is of God, heareth Gods wordes: yee therefore heare them not, because ye are not of God.

⁴⁸ Then answered the Iewes, and said vnto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritane, and hast a deuil?

⁴⁹ Iesus answered, I haue not a deuil, but I honour my Father, and ye haue dishonoured me.

⁵⁰ And I seeke not mine owne praise: but there is one that seeketh it, and iudgeth.

⁵¹ Verely, verely I say vnto you, If a man keepe my word, he shall neuer see death.

⁵² Then said the Iewes to him, Now know we that thou hast a deuill. Abraham is dead, and the Prophets: and thou sayest, If a man keepe my worde, he shall neuer taste of death.

⁵⁷ Then sayd ye Iewes vnto him, Thou art not yet fiftie yeere olde, and hast thou seene Abraham?

¹¹ She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

¹² Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

¹³ The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, yet my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

¹⁵ Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

¹⁶ And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

¹⁷ It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

¹⁸ I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

¹⁹ Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.

²⁰ These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.

²¹ Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

²² Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.

²³ And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴ I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.

²⁵ Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.

²⁶ I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.

²⁷ They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.

²⁸ Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lift up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

²⁹ And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

³⁰ As he spake these words, many believed on him.

³¹ Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

³² and ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

³³ They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

³⁴ Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

³⁵ And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

³⁶ If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

³⁷ I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

³⁸ I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

³⁹ They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

⁴⁰ But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

⁴⁶ Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

⁴⁷ He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

⁴⁸ Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

⁴⁹ Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.

⁵⁰ And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

⁵¹ Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

⁵⁷ Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

³⁵ And the bond-servant abideth not in the house for ever; the son abideth for ever.

³⁶ If therefore the Son make you free, ye will be free indeed.

³⁷ I know that ye are Abraham's offspring; but ye seek to kill me, because my word is not received within you.

³⁸ I speak what I have seen with the Father; and ye accordingly do what ye have seen with your father.

³⁹ They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

⁴⁰ But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath spoken to you the truth, which I heard from God; this did not Abraham.

¹² Jesus again addressed the people. “I am the light of the world,” he said. “The person who follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

¹³ “You are bearing testimony to yourself!” exclaimed the Pharisees, “your testimony is not trustworthy.”

¹⁴ “Even if I bear testimony to myself,” answered Jesus, “my testimony is trustworthy; for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you do not know where I come from, nor where I am going.

¹⁵ You judge by appearances; I judge no one.

¹⁶ Yet, even if I were to judge, my judgement would be trustworthy; because I am not alone, but the Father who sent me is with me.

¹⁷ Why, in your own Law it is said that the testimony of two persons is trustworthy.

¹⁸ I, who bear testimony to myself, am one, and the Father who sent me also bears testimony to me.”

¹⁹ “Where is your father, then?” they asked. “You know neither me nor my Father,” replied Jesus. “If you had known me, you would have also known my Father.”

²⁰ These statements Jesus made in the Treasury, while teaching in the Temple Courts. Yet no one arrested him, for his time had not then come.

²¹ Jesus again spoke to the people. “I am going away,” he said, “and you will look for me, but you will die in your sin; you cannot come where I am going.”

²² “Is he going to kill himself,” the people exclaimed, “that he says — ‘You cannot go where I am going’?”

²³ “You,” added Jesus, “are from below, I am from above; you are of this present world, I am not;

²⁴ and so I told you that you would die in your sins, for, unless you believe that I am what I am, you will die in your sins.”

²⁵ “Who are you?” they asked. “Why ask exactly what I have been telling you?” said Jesus.

²⁶ “I have still much that concerns you to speak of and to pass judgement on; yet he who sent me may be trusted, and I speak to the world only of the things which I have heard from him.”

²⁷ They did not understand that he meant the Father.

²⁸ So Jesus added, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will understand that I am what I am, and that I do nothing of myself, but that I say just what the Father has taught me.

²⁹ Moreover, he who sent me is with me; he has not left me alone; for I always do what pleases him.”

³⁰ While he was speaking in this way, many came to believe in him.

³¹ So Jesus went on to say to those who had believed him, “If you remain constant to my message, you are truly my disciples;

³² and you find out the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

³³ “We are descendants of Abraham,” was their answer, “and have never yet been in slavery to anyone. What do you mean by saying ‘you will be set free’?”

³⁴ “In truth I tell you,” replied Jesus, “everyone who sins is a slave to sin.

³⁵ And a slave does not remain in the home always; but a son remains always.

³⁶ If, then, the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!

³⁷ I know that you are descendants of Abraham; yet you are seeking to put me to death, because my message finds no place in your hearts.

³⁸ I tell you what I have myself seen in the presence of my Father; and you, in the same way, do what you have learnt from your father.”

³⁹ “Our father is Abraham,” was their answer. “If you are Abraham's children,” replied Jesus, “do what Abraham did.

⁴⁰ But, as it is, you are seeking to put me to death — a man who has told you the truth as he heard it from God. Abraham did not act in that way.

⁴¹ You are doing what your own father does.” “We are not bastards,” they said, “we have one Father — God himself.”

⁴² “If God were your Father,” Jesus replied, “you would have loved me, for I came out from God, and now am here; and I have not come of myself, but he sent me as his messenger.

⁴³ How is it that you do not understand what I say? It is because you cannot bear to listen to my message.

⁴⁴ As for you, you are children of your Father the devil, and you are determined to do what your father loves to do. He was a murderer from the first, and did not stand by the truth, because there is no truth in him. Whenever he lies, he does what is natural to him; because he is a liar, and the father of lying.

⁴⁵ But, as for me, it is because I speak the truth to you that you do not believe me.

⁴⁶ Which of you can convict me of sin? Why then don't you believe me, if I am speaking truth?

⁴⁷ The person who comes from God listens to God's teaching; the reason why you do not listen is because you do not come from God.”

⁴⁸ “Aren't we right, after all,” replied the people, “in saying that you are a Samaritan, and are possessed by a demon?”

⁴⁹ “I am not possessed by a demon,” Jesus answered, “but I am honouring my Father; and yet you dishonour me.

⁵⁰ Not that I am seeking honour for myself; there is one who is seeking my honour, and he decides.

⁵¹ In truth I tell you, if anyone lays my message to heart, he will never really die.”

⁵² “Now we are sure that you are possessed by a demon,” the people replied. “Abraham died, and so did the prophets; and yet you say ‘If anyone lays my message to heart, they will never know death.’

⁵³ Are you greater than our ancestor Abraham, who died? And the prophets died too. Whom do you make yourself out to be?”

⁵⁴ “If I do honour to myself,” answered Jesus, “such honour counts for nothing. It is my Father who does me honour — and you say that he is your God;

⁵⁵ and yet you have not learnt to know him; but I know him; and, if I were to say that I do not know him, I should be a liar like you; but I do know him, and I lay his message to heart.

⁵⁶ Your ancestor Abraham rejoiced that he would see my day; and he did see it, and was glad.”

⁵⁷ “You are not fifty years old yet,” the people exclaimed, “and have you seen Abraham?”

¹³ The Pharisees Separated therefore said to him, “You testify about yourself. Your testimony is not valid.”

¹⁴ Yeshua Salvation answered them, “Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you don’t know where I came from, or where I am going.

¹⁵ You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.

¹⁶ Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with Abba ·Father familiar, Dear Dad· who sent me.

¹⁷ It’s also written in your Torah ·Teaching· that the testimony of two people is valid.

¹⁸ Ena Na I AM (the Living God) that testifies about myself, and Abba ·Father familiar, Dear Dad· who sent me testifies about me.”

¹⁹ They said therefore to him, “Where is your Abba Father?” Yeshua Salvation answered, “You know neither me, nor 'Avi ·my Father·. If you knew me, you would know 'Avi ·my Father· also.”

²⁵ They said therefore to him, “Who are you?” Yeshua Salvation said to them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

³¹ Yeshua Salvation therefore said to those Jews Praisers who had believed him, “If you remain in my word, then you are truly my disciples.

³² You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free.”

³³ They answered him, “We are Abraham Father of a multitude’s offspring, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How do you say, ‘You will be made free’?”

³⁴ Yeshua Salvation answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bond-servant of sin.

³⁵ A bond-servant does not live in the house forever. A son remains forever.

³⁶ If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

³⁷ I know that you are Abraham Father of a multitude’s offspring, yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you.

³⁸ I say the things which I have seen with 'Avi ·my Father·; and you also do the things which you have seen with 'Avikah ·your Father·.”

³⁹ They answered him, “Abraham Father of a multitude is Avinu ·our Father·.” Yeshua Salvation said to them, “If you were Abraham Father of a multitude’s children, you would do the works of Abraham Father of a multitude.

⁴⁰ But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth, which I heard from God. Abraham Father of a multitude didn’t do this.

⁴¹ You do the works of your Abba ·Father familiar, Dear Dad·.” They said to him, “We were not born of porhneia ·sexual immorality·; we have one Abba Father, God.”

⁴² Therefore Yeshua Salvation said to them, “If God were your Abba ·Father familiar, Dear Dad·, you would have agapao ·total devotion love· towards me, for I came out and have come from God. For I haven’t come of myself, but he sent me.

⁴³ Why don’t you understand my speech? Because you can’t hear my word.

⁴⁴ You are of your Abba father, the devil, and you want to do the epithumia ·lusts, desires· of 'Avikah ·your Father·. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and its Abba ·Father familiar, Dear Dad·.

⁴⁵ But because I tell the truth, you don’t believe me.

⁴⁶ Which of you convicts me of sin? If I tell the truth, why do you not believe me?

⁴⁷ He who is of God hears the words of God. For this cause you don’t hear, because you are not of God.”

⁴⁸ Then the Jews Praisers answered him, “Don’t we say well that you are a Samaritan person from Watch-mountain, and have a demon?”

⁴⁹ Yeshua Salvation answered, “I don’t have a demon, but I honor 'Avi ·my Father·, and you dishonor me.

⁵⁰ But I don’t seek my own glory. There is one who seeks and judges.

⁵¹ Most certainly, I tell you, if a person keeps my word, he will never see death.”

⁵² Then the Jews Praisers said to him, “Now we know that you have a demon. Abraham Father of a multitude died, and the prophets; and you say, ‘If a man keeps my word, he will never taste of death.’

⁵³ Are you greater than Abraham Father of a multitude Avinu ·our Father·, who died? The prophets died. Who do you make yourself out to be?”

⁵⁴ Yeshua Salvation answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is 'Avi ·my Father· who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is our God.

⁵⁵ You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, ‘I don’t know him,’ I would be like you, a liar. But I know him, and keep his word.

⁵⁶ 'Avikah ·your Father· Abraham Father of a multitude rejoiced to see my day. He saw it, and was glad.”

⁵⁷ The Jews Praisers therefore said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old, and have you seen Abraham Father of a multitude?”

¹¹ She sayde: No man Lorde. And Iesus sayde: Nether do I condempne the. Goo and synne no moare.

¹² Then spake Iesus agayne vnto them sayinge: I am the light of the worlde. He that foloweth me shall not walke in darcknes: but shall have the light of lyfe.

¹³ The pharises sayde vnto him: thou bearest recorde of thy sylfe thy recorde is not true.

¹⁴ Iesus answered and sayde vnto them: Though I beare recorde of my selfe yet my recorde is true: for I knowe whence I came and whyther I goo. But ye cannot tell whence I come and whyther I goo.

¹⁵ Ye iudge after the flesshe. I iudge no man though I iudge yet is my iudgmet true. For I am not alone: but I and the father that sent me.

¹⁶ It is also written in youre lawe that the testimony of two men is true.

¹⁷ I am one that beare witnes of my selfe and the father that sent me beareth witnes of me.

¹⁸ Then sayde they vnto him: where is thy father? Iesus answered: ye nether knowe me nor yet my father. Yf ye had knowen me ye shuld have knowen my father also.

¹⁹ These wordes spake Iesus in the tresury as he taught in the temple and no man layde hondes on him for his tyme was not yet come.

²⁰ Then sayde Iesus agayne vnto them. I goo my waye and ye shall seke me and shall dye in youre synnes. Whyther I goo thyther can ye not come.

²¹ Then sayde the Iewes: will he kyll him selfe because he sayth: whyther I goo thyther can ye not come?

²² And he sayde vnto the: ye are from beneth I am from above. Ye are of this worlde I am not of this worlde.

²³ I sayde therfore vnto you that ye shall dye in youre synnes. For except ye beleve that I am he ye shall dye in youre synnes.

²⁴ Then sayde they vnto him who arte thou? And Iesus sayde vnto them: even the very same thinge that I saye vnto you.

²⁵ I have many thinges to saye and to iudge of you. But he that sent me is true. And I speake in the worlde those thinges which I have hearde of him.

²⁶ They understode not that he spake of his father.

²⁷ Then sayde Iesus vnto them: when ye have lyft vp an hye the sonne of man then shall ye knowe that I am he and that I do nothinge of my selfe: but as my father hath taught me even so I speake:

²⁸ and he that sent me is with me. The father hath not lefte me alone for I do alwayes those thinges that please him.

²⁹ As he spake these wordes many beleved on him.

³⁰ Then sayde Iesus to those Iewes which beleved on him. If ye continue in my wordes then are ye my very disciples

³¹ and shall knowe the trueth: and the trueth shall make you free.

³² They answered him: We be Abrahams seede and were never bonde to eny man: why sayest thou then ye shalbe made fre.

³³ Iesus answered them: verely verely I saye vnto you that whosoever committeth synne is the servaunt of synne.

³⁴ And the servaunt abydeth not in the housse for ever: But the sonne abydeth ever.

³⁵ If the sonne therfore shall make you fre then are ye fre in dede.

³⁶ I knowe that ye are Abrahams seed: But ye seke meanes to kyll me because my sayinges have no place in you.

³⁷ I speake that I have sene with my father: and ye do that which ye have sene with youre father.

³⁸ They answered and sayde vnto him: Abraham is oure father. Iesus sayde vnto them. If ye were Abrahams chyldren ye wolde do the dedes of Abraham.

³⁹ But now ye goo about to kyll me a man that have tolde you the truthe which I have herde of god: this dyd not Abraham.

⁴⁰ Ye do the dedes of youre father. Then sayde they vnto him: we were not borne of fornicacion. We have one father which is God.

⁴¹ Iesus sayde vnto them: yf God were youre father then wolde ye love me. For I proceaded forthe and come from God. Nether came I of my selfe but he sent me.

⁴² Why do ye not knowe my speache? even because ye cannot abyde the hearynge of my wordes.

⁴³ Ye are of youre father the devyll and the lustes of youre father ye will folowe.

⁴⁴ He was a murtherer from the beginnynge and aboode not in the trueth because ther is no trueth in him. When he speaketh a lye then speaketh he of his awne. For he is a lyar and the father therof.

⁴⁵ And because I tell you the trueth therfore ye beleve me not.

⁴⁶ Which of you can rebuke me of synne? If I saye the trueth why do not ye beleve me?

⁴⁷ He that is of God heareth goddes wordes Ye therfore heare them not because ye are not of God.

⁴⁸ Then answered the Iewes and sayde vnto him: Saye we not well that thou arte a Samaritane and hast the devyll?

⁴⁹ Iesus answered: I have not the devyll: but I honour my father and ye have dishonoured me.

⁵⁰ I seke not myne awne prayse: but ther is one that seketh and iudgeth.

⁵¹ Verely verely I saye vnto you yf a man kepe my sayinges he shall never se deeth.

⁵² Then sayde the Iewes to him: Now knowe we that thou hast the devyll. Abraham is deed and also the Prophetes: and yet thou sayest yf a man kepe my sayinge he shall never tast of deeth.

⁵³ Arte thou greater then oure father Abraham which is deed? and the Prophetes are deed. Whome makest thou thy selfe?

⁵⁴ Iesus answered: Yf I honoure my selfe myne honoure is nothinge worth. It is my father that honoureth me which ye saye is youre God

⁵⁵ and ye have not knowen him: but I knowe him. And yf I shuld saye I knowe him not I shuld be a lyar lyke vnto you. But I knowe him and kepe his sayinge.

⁵⁶ Youre father Abraham was glad to se my daye and he sawe it and reioysed.

⁵⁷ Then sayde the Iewes vnto him: thou arte not yet.l. yere olde and hast thou sene Abraham?

¹¹ She said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.”

¹² Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world; he who follows me will not walk in the darkness but will have the light of life.”

¹³ The Pharisees said to him, “You bear witness about yourself; your witness is not true.”

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, “Even if I bear witness about myself, my witness is true. I know where I came from and where I am going, but you do not know where I came from or where I am going.

¹⁵ You judge according the flesh; I judge no one.

¹⁶ Yet if I judge, my judgment is true because I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.

¹⁷ Yes, and in your law it is written that the testimony of two men is true.

¹⁸ I am he who bears witness about myself, and the Father who sent me bears witness about me.”

¹⁹ They said to him, “Where is your father?” Jesus answered, “You know neither me nor my Father; if you had known me, you would have known my Father also.”

²⁰ He said these words in the treasury as he taught in the temple, and no one arrested him because his hour had not yet come.

²¹ So again he said to them, “I am going away; you will seek me and will die in your sin. Where I am going, you cannot come.”

²² The Jews said, “Will he kill himself? Is that why he says, 'Where I am going you cannot come'?”

²³ Jesus said to them, “You are from below; I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world.

²⁴ Therefore, I said to you that you will die in your sins. For unless you believe that I AM, you will die in your sins.”

²⁵ They said therefore to him, “Who are you?” Jesus said to them, “What I have said to you from the beginning.

²⁶ I have many things to speak and to judge about you. However, he who sent me is true; and the things that I heard from him, these things I say to the world.”

²⁷ They did not understand that he was speaking to them about the Father.

²⁸ Jesus said, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then will you know that I AM, and that I do nothing of myself. As the Father taught me, I speak these things.

²⁹ He who sent me is with me, and he has not left me alone, because I always do what is pleasing to him.”

³⁰ As Jesus was saying these things, many believed in him.

³³ They answered him, “We are descendants of Abraham and have never been slaves of anyone; how can you say, 'You will be set free'?”

³⁴ Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.

³⁵ The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever.

³⁶ Therefore, if the Son sets you free, you will be truly free.

³⁷ I know that you are Abraham's descendants; you seek to kill me because my word has no place in you.

³⁸ I say what I have seen with my Father, and you also do what you heard from your father.”

³⁹ They answered and said to him, “Our father is Abraham.” Jesus said to them, “If you were Abraham's children, you would do the works of Abraham.

⁴⁰ Yet, now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth that I heard from God. Abraham did not do this.

⁴¹ You do the works of your father.” They said to him, “We were not born in sexual immorality; we have one Father: God.”

⁴² Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and am here; for neither have I come of myself, but he sent me.

⁴³ Why do you not understand my words? It is because you cannot hear my words.

⁴⁴ You are of your father, the devil, and you wish to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning and does not stand in the truth because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own nature because he is a liar and the father of lies.

²⁴ I said therefore to you, that ye will die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am he , ye will die in your sins.

²⁵ Then said they to him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith to them, Even the same that I said to you from the beginning.

²⁶ I have many things to say, and to judge of you: but he that sent me, is true: and I speak to the world those things which I have heard from him.

²⁷ They understood not that he spoke to them concerning the Father.

²⁸ Then said Jesus to them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he , and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

²⁹ And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

³⁰ As he spoke these words, many believed on him.

³¹ Then said Jesus to those Jews who believed on him, If ye continue in my word, ye are my disciples indeed;

³² And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

³³ They answered him, We are Abraham's offspring, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

³⁴ Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say to you, Whoever committeth sin, is the servant of sin.

³⁵ And the servant abideth not in the house for ever, but the Son abideth for ever.

³⁶ If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

³⁷ I know that ye are Abraham's offspring; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

³⁸ I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

³⁹ They answered and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them, If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

⁴⁰ But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard from God: this did not Abraham.

⁴¹ Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We are not born of fornication; we have one Father, even God.

⁴² Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

⁴³ Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

⁴⁴ Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do: he was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

⁴⁵ And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not.

⁴⁶ Which of you convicteth me of sin? And if I speak the truth, why do ye not believe me?

⁴⁷ He that is of God, heareth God's words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.

⁴⁸ Then answered the Jews, and said to him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?

⁴⁹ Jesus answered, I have not a demon; but I honor my Father, and ye dishonor me.

⁵⁰ And I seek not my own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

⁵¹ Verily, verily, I say to you, If a man shall keep my saying, he shall never see death.

⁵² Then said the Jews to him, Now we know that thou hast a demon. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man shall keep my saying, he shall never taste death.

⁵³ Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, If I honor myself, my honor is nothing: it is my Father that honoreth me, of whom ye say, that he is your God:

⁵⁵ Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I should be a liar like you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it , and was glad.

⁵⁷ Then said the Jews to him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

¹¹ She said, “No one, Lord.” Yeshua said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more.”

¹² Again, therefore, Yeshua spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows me will not walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”

¹³ The Pharisees therefore said to him, “You testify about yourself. Your testimony is not valid.”

¹⁴ Yeshua answered them, “Even if I testify about myself, my testimony is true, for I know where I came from, and where I am going; but you don’t know where I came from, or where I am going.

¹⁵ You judge according to the flesh. I judge no one.

¹⁶ Even if I do judge, my judgment is true, for I am not alone, but I am with the Father who sent me.

¹⁷ It’s also written in your Torah that the testimony of two people is valid.

¹⁸ I am one who testifies about myself, and the Father who sent me testifies about me.”

¹⁹ They said therefore to him, “Where is your Father?” Yeshua answered, “You know neither me nor my Father. If you knew me, you would know my Father also.”

²⁰ Yeshua spoke these words in the treasury, as he taught in the temple. Yet no one arrested him, because his hour had not yet come.

²¹ Yeshua said therefore again to them, “I am going away, and you will seek me, and you will die in your sins. Where I go, you can’t come.”

²² The Judeans therefore said, “Will he kill himself, because he says, ‘Where I am going, you can’t come’?”

²³ He said to them, “You are from beneath. I am from above. You are of this world. I am not of this world.

²⁴ I said therefore to you that you will die in your sins; for unless you believe that I am he, you will die in your sins.”

²⁵ They said therefore to him, “Who are you?” Yeshua said to them, “Just what I have been saying to you from the beginning.

²⁶ I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you. However, he who sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these I say to the world.”

²⁷ They didn’t understand that he spoke to them about the Father.

²⁸ Yeshua therefore said to them, “When you have lifted up the Son of Man, then you will know that I am he, and I do nothing of myself, but as my Father taught me, I say these things.

³³ They answered him, “We are Abraham’s offspring, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How do you say, ‘You will be made free’?”

³⁴ Yeshua answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, everyone who commits sin is the bondservant of sin.

³⁵ A bondservant doesn’t live in the house forever. A son remains forever.

³⁶ If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed.

³⁷ I know that you are Abraham’s offspring, yet you seek to kill me, because my word finds no place in you.

³⁸ I say the things which I have seen with my Father; and you also do the things which you have seen with your father.”

³⁹ They answered him, “Our father is Abraham.” Yeshua said to them, “If you were Abraham’s children, you would do the works of Abraham.

⁴⁰ But now you seek to kill me, a man who has told you the truth which I heard from God. Abraham didn’t do this.

⁴¹ You do the works of your father.” They said to him, “We were not born of sexual immorality. We have one Father, God.”

⁴² Therefore Yeshua said to them, “If God were your father, you would love me, for I came out and have come from God. For I haven’t come of myself, but he sent me.

⁴³ Why don’t you understand my speech? Because you can’t hear my word.

⁴⁴ You are of your father the devil, and you want to do the desires of your father. He was a murderer from the beginning, and doesn’t stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks on his own; for he is a liar, and the father of lies.

⁵⁴ Yeshua answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing. It is my Father who glorifies me, of whom you say that he is our God.

⁵⁵ You have not known him, but I know him. If I said, ‘I don’t know him,’ I would be like you, a liar. But I know him and keep his word.

⁵⁶ Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day. He saw it and was glad.”

⁵⁷ The Judeans therefore said to him, “You are not yet fifty years old! Have you seen Abraham?”

²⁹ And he that sent me is with me, and left me not alone; for I do ever-more those things, that be pleasing to him.

³³ Therefore the Jews answered to him, We be the seed of Abraham, and we served never to man or and to no man we served ever; how sayest thou, That ye shall be free?

⁵⁷ Then the Jews said to him, Thou hast not yet fifty years, and hast thou seen Abraham?

¹⁹ Therefore they said to him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Neither ye know me, nor ye know my Father; if ye knew me, peradventure ye should know also my Father.

²⁸ Therefore Jesus said to them, When ye have araised man’s Son, then ye shall know, that I am, and of myself I do nothing, (or When ye have raised up man’s Son, then ye shall know, what I am, and that by myself I can do nothing); but as my Father taught me, I speak these things.

²⁹ And he that sent me is with me, and left me not alone; for I do (for)evermore those things, that be pleasing to him, (or for I always do those things, that be pleasing to him).

³⁵ And the servant dwelleth not in the house into without end, but the Son dwelleth into without end.

³⁶ Therefore if the Son make you free, verily, ye shall be free. (And so if the Son shall make you free, truly, or in truth, ye shall be free.)

³⁸ I speak those things, that I saw at my Father; and ye do those things, that ye saw at your father.

³⁹ They answered, and said to him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith to them, If ye be the sons of Abraham, (then) do ye the works of Abraham.

⁴⁰ But now ye seek to slay me, a man that have spoken to you the truth, that I heard of God (or that I heard from God); Abraham did not this thing.

⁴¹ Ye do the works of your father. Therefore they said to him, We be not born of fornication; we have (but) one Father, God.

⁴² But Jesus saith to them, If God were your Father, soothly ye should love me; for I passed forth of God, or forsooth I proceeded, or came forth, of God, and came (here); for neither I came of myself, but he sent me. (But Jesus said to them, If God were your Father, truly ye would love me, for I came forth from God, and came here; yea, I did not come here on my own accord, but he sent me.)

⁴³ Why know ye not my speech? for ye may not hear my word. (Why do ye not understand what I say? because ye cannot hear, or ye cannot listen to, my words.)

⁴⁴ Ye be of the father, the devil, and ye will do the desires of your father. He was a manslayer from the beginning, and he stood not in (the) truth; for (the) truth is not in him. When he speaketh leasing, he speaketh of his own; for he is a liar, and (the) father of it, (or When he speaketh lies, he speaketh his own language; for he is a liar, and the father of them).

⁴⁵ But for I say (the) truth, ye believe not to me. (But because I speak the truth, ye do not believe me.)

⁴⁶ Who of you shall reprove me of sin? if I say (the) truth, why believe ye not to me? (Who of you can prove me guilty of sin? or can convict me of sin? if I speak the truth, then why do ye not believe me?)

⁴⁷ He that is of God, heareth the words of God; therefore ye hear not, (or and so ye cannot hear, or and so ye will not listen), for ye be not of God.

⁴⁸ Therefore the Jews answered, and said to him, Whether we say not well (or Do we not rightly, or correctly, say), that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

⁴⁹ Jesus answered, and said, I have not a devil, but I honour my Father, and ye have unhonoured me. (Jesus answered, and said, I do not have a devil, or I am not possessed, and I honour my Father, but ye dishonour me.)

⁵⁰ For I seek not my glory; there is he, that seeketh, and deemeth. (Because I do not seek my own glory; but there is He, who seeketh it, and judgeth for me.)

⁵¹ Truly, truly, I say to you, if any man keep my word(s), he shall not taste death into without end. (Truly, I tell you the truth, if any man obey my words, he shall never taste death or he shall never die.)

⁵² Therefore the Jews said, Now we have known, that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets, and thou sayest, If any man keep my word(s), (or If any man obey my words), he shall not taste death into without end.

⁵³ Whether thou art greater than our father Abraham, that is dead, and the prophets be dead; whom makest thou thyself?

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, If I glorify myself, my glory is nought, (or then my glory, or my boasting, is nothing); my Father is, that glorifieth me, whom ye say, that he is your God.

⁵⁵ And ye have not known him, but I have known him; and if I say that I know him not, I shall be a liar like to you; but I know him, and I keep his word(s), (or and I obey his words).

⁵⁶ Abraham, your father, gladded or full out joyed to see my day; and he saw (it), and joyed. (Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day; yea, he saw it, and rejoiced.)

⁵⁷ Then the Jews said to him, Thou hast not yet fifty years, and hast thou seen Abraham?

¹¹ Sche seide, No man, Lord. Jhesus seide `to hir, Nethir Y schal dampne thee; go thou, and now aftirward nyle thou synne more.

¹² Therfor eft Jhesus spak to hem, and seide, Y am the liyt of the world; he that sueth me, walkith not in derknessis, but schal haue the liyt of lijf.

¹³ Therfor the Fariseis seiden, Thou berist witnessyng of thi silf; thi witnessyng is not trewe.

¹⁴ Jhesus answerde, and seide to hem, And if Y bere witnessyng of my silf, my witnessyng is trewe; for Y woot fro whennus Y cam, and whidur Y go.

¹⁵ But ye witen not fro whennus Y cam, ne whidur Y go. For ye demen aftir the fleisch, but Y deme no man;

¹⁶ and if Y deme, my doom is trewe, for Y am not aloone, but Y and the fadir that sente me.

¹⁷ And in youre lawe it is writun, that the witnessyng of twei men is trewe.

¹⁸ Y am, that bere witnessyng of my silf, and the fadir that sente me, berith witnessyng of me.

¹⁹ Therfor thei seiden to hym, Where is thi fadir? Jhesus answeride, Nether ye knowen me, nethir ye knowen my fadir; if ye knewen me, perauenture ye schulden knowe also my fadir.

²⁰ Jhesus spak these wordis in the tresorie, techynge in the temple; and no man took hym, for his our cam not yit.

²¹ Therfor eft Jhesus seide to hem, Lo! Y go, and ye schulen seke me, and ye schulen die in youre synne; whidur Y go, ye moun not come.

²² Therfor the Jewis seiden, Whether he schal sle hym silf, for he seith, Whidur Y go, ye moun not come?

²³ And he seide to hem, Ye ben of bynethe, Y am of aboue; ye ben of this world, Y am not of this world.

²⁴ Therfor Y seide to you, that ye schulen die in youre synnes; for if ye bileuen not that Y am, ye schulen die in youre synne.

²⁵ Therfor thei seiden to hym, Who art thou? Jhesus seide to hem, The bigynnyng, which also speke to you.

²⁶ Y haue many thingis to speke, and deme of you, but he that sente me is sothefast; and Y speke in the world these thingis, that Y herde of hym.

²⁷ And thei knewen not, that he clepide his fadir God.

²⁸ Therfor Jhesus seith to hem, Whanne ye han areisid mannus sone, thanne ye schulen knowe, that Y am, and of my silf Y do no thing; but as my fadir tauyte me, Y speke these thingis.

²⁹ And he that sente me is with me, and lefte me not aloone; for Y do euermore tho thingis, that ben plesynge to hym.

³⁰ Whanne he spak these thingis, manye bileueden in hym.

³¹ Therfor Jhesus seide to the Jewis, that bileueden in hym, If ye dwellen in my word, verili ye schulen be my disciplis;

³² and ye schulen knowe the treuthe, and the treuthe schal make you fre.

³³ Therfor the Jewis answeriden to hym, We ben the seed of Abraham, and we serueden neuere to man; hou seist thou, That ye schulen be fre?

³⁴ Jhesus answeride to hem, Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, ech man that doith synne, is seruaunt of synne.

³⁵ And the seruaunt dwellith not in the hows with outen ende, but the sone dwellith with outen ende.

³⁶ Therfor if the sone make you fre, verili ye schulen be fre.

³⁷ Y woot that ye ben Abrahams sones, but ye seken to sle me, for my word takith not in you.

³⁸ Y speke tho thingis, that Y say at my fadir; and ye doen tho thingis, that ye sayn at youre fadir.

³⁹ Thei answerden, and seiden to hym, Abraham is oure fadir. Jhesus seith to hem, If ye ben the sones of Abraham, do ye the werkis of Abraham.

⁴⁰ But now ye seken to sle `me, a man that haue spoken to you treuthe, that Y herde of God; Abraham dide not this thing.

⁴¹ Ye doen the werkis of youre fadir. Therfor thei seiden to hym, We ben not borun of fornycacioun; we han o fadir, God.

⁴² But Jhesus seith to hem, If God were youre fadir, sotheli ye schulden loue me; for Y passide forth of God, and cam; for nether Y cam of my silf, but he sente me.

⁴³ Whi knowen ye not my speche? for ye moun not here my word.

⁴⁴ Ye ben of the fadir, the deuel, and ye wolen do the desyris of youre fadir. He was a mansleere fro the bigynnyng, and he stood not in treuthe; for treuthe is not in hym. Whanne he spekith lesyng, he spekith of his owne; for he is a liere, and fadir of it.

⁴⁵ But for Y seie treuthe, ye bileuen not to me.

⁴⁶ Who of you schal repreue me of synne? if Y sey treuthe, whi bileuen ye not to me?

⁴⁷ He that is of God, herith the wordis of God; therfor ye heren not, for ye ben not of God.

⁴⁸ Therfor the Jewis answeriden, and seiden, Whether we seien not wel, that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a deuel?

⁴⁹ Jhesus answerde, and seide, Y haue not a deuel, but Y onoure my fadir, and ye han vnhonourid me.

⁵⁰ For Y seke not my glorye; there is he, that sekith, and demeth.

⁵¹ Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, if ony man kepe my word, he schal not taste deth with outen ende.

⁵² Therfor the Jewis seiden, Now we han knowun, that thou hast a deuel. Abraham is deed, and the prophetis, and thou seist, If ony man kepe my word, he schal not taste deth withouten ende.

⁵³ Whether thou art grettere than oure fader Abraham, that is deed, and the prophetis ben deed; whom makist thou thi silf?

⁵⁴ Jhesus answeride, If Y glorifie my silf, my glorie is nouyt; my fadir, is that glorifieth me, whom ye seien, that he is youre God.

⁵⁵ And ye han not knowun hym, but Y haue knowun hym; and if Y seie that Y knowe hym not, Y schal be a liere lich to you; but Y knowe hym, and Y kepe his word.

⁵⁶ Abraham, youre fadir, gladide to se my dai; and he saiy, and ioyede.

⁵⁷ Thanne the Jewis seiden to hym, Thou hast not yit fifti yeer, and hast thou seien Abraham?

¹¹ and she said, 'No one, Sir;' and Jesus said to her, 'Neither do I pass sentence on thee; be going on, and no more sin.'

¹² Again, therefore, Jesus spake to them, saying, 'I am the light of the world; he who is following me shall not walk in the darkness, but he shall have the light of the life.'

¹³ The Pharisees, therefore, said to him, 'Thou of thyself dost testify, thy testimony is not true;'

¹⁴ Jesus answered and said to them, 'And if I testify of myself — my testimony is true, because I have known whence I came, and whither I go, and ye — ye have not known whence I come, or whither I go.

¹⁵ 'Ye according to the flesh do judge; I do not judge any one,

¹⁶ and even if I do judge my judgment is true, because I am not alone, but I and the Father who sent me;

¹⁷ and also in your law it hath been written, that the testimony of two men are true;

¹⁸ I am one who is testifying of myself, and the Father who sent me doth testify of me.'

¹⁹ They said, therefore, to him, 'Where is thy father?' Jesus answered, 'Ye have neither known me nor my Father: if me ye had known, my Father also ye had known.'

²⁰ These sayings spake Jesus in the treasury, teaching in the temple, and no one seized him, because his hour had not yet come;

²¹ therefore said Jesus again to them, 'I go away, and ye will seek me, and in your sin ye shall die; whither I go away, ye are not able to come.'

²² The Jews, therefore, said, 'Will he kill himself, because he saith, Whither I go away, ye are not able to come?'

²³ and he said to them, 'Ye are from beneath, I am from above; ye are of this world, I am not of this world;

²⁴ I said, therefore, to you, that ye shall die in your sins, for if ye may not believe that I am he, ye shall die in your sins.'

²⁵ They said, therefore, to him, 'Thou — who art thou?' and Jesus said to them, 'Even what I did speak of to you at the beginning;

²⁶ many things I have to speak concerning you and to judge, but He who sent me is true, and I — what things I heard from Him — these I say to the world.'

²⁷ They knew not that of the Father he spake to them;

²⁸ Jesus, therefore, said to them, 'When ye may lift up the Son of Man then ye will know that I am he; and of myself I do nothing, but according as my Father did teach me, these things I speak;

²⁹ and He who sent me is with me; the Father did not leave me alone, because I, the things pleasing to Him, do always.'

³⁰ As he is speaking these things, many believed in him;

³¹ Jesus, therefore, said unto the Jews who believed in him, 'If ye may remain in my word, truly my disciples ye are, and ye shall know the truth,

³² and the truth shall make you free.'

³³ They answered him, 'Seed of Abraham we are; and to no one have we been servants at any time; how dost thou say — Ye shall become free?'

³⁴ Jesus answered them, 'Verily, verily, I say to you — Every one who is committing sin, is a servant of the sin,

³⁵ and the servant doth not remain in the house — to the age, the son doth remain — to the age;

³⁶ if then the son may make you free, in reality ye shall be free.

³⁷ 'I have known that ye are seed of Abraham, but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you;

³⁸ I — that which I have seen with my Father do speak, and ye, therefore, that which ye have seen with your father — ye do.'

³⁹ They answered and said to him, 'Our father is Abraham;' Jesus saith to them, 'If children of Abraham ye were, the works of Abraham ye were doing;

⁴⁰ and now, ye seek to kill me — a man who hath spoken to you the truth I heard from God; this Abraham did not;

⁴¹ ye do the works of your father.' They said, therefore, to him, 'We of whoredom have not been born; one Father we have — God;'

⁴² Jesus then said to them, 'If God were your father, ye were loving me, for I came forth from God, and am come; for neither have I come of myself, but He sent me;

⁴³ wherefore do ye not know my speech? because ye are not able to hear my word.

⁴⁴ 'Ye are of a father — the devil, and the desires of your father ye will to do; he was a man-slayer from the beginning, and in the truth he hath not stood, because there is no truth in him; when one may speak the falsehood, of his own he speaketh, because he is a liar — also his father.

⁴⁵ 'And because I say the truth, ye do not believe me.

⁴⁶ Who of you doth convict me of sin? and if I speak truth, wherefore do ye not believe me?

⁴⁷ he who is of God, the sayings of God he doth hear; because of this ye do not hear, because of God ye are not.'

⁴⁸ The Jews, therefore, answered and said to him, 'Do we not say well, that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a demon?'

⁴⁹ Jesus answered, 'I have not a demon, but I honour my Father, and ye dishonour me;

⁵⁰ and I do not seek my own glory; there is who is seeking and is judging;

⁵¹ verily, verily, I say to you, If any one may keep my word, death he may not see — to the age.'

⁵² The Jews, therefore, said to him, 'Now we have known that thou hast a demon; Abraham did die, and the prophets, and thou dost say, If any one may keep my word, he shall not taste of death — to the age!

⁵³ Art thou greater than our father Abraham, who died? and the prophets died; whom dost thou make thyself?'

⁵⁴ Jesus answered, 'If I glorify myself, my glory is nothing; it is my Father who is glorifying me, of whom ye say that He is your God;

⁵⁵ and ye have not known Him, and I have known Him, and if I say that I have not known Him, I shall be like you — speaking falsely; but I have known Him, and His word I keep;

⁵⁶ Abraham, your father, was glad that he might see my day; and he saw, and did rejoice.'

⁵⁷ The Jews, therefore, said unto him, 'Thou art not yet fifty years old, and Abraham hast thou seen?'
