John 8:1-11 in English

¹ but Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

² And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

³ And the scribes and the Pharisees bring a woman taken in adultery; and having set her in the midst,

⁴ they say unto him, Teacher, this woman hath been taken in adultery, in the very act.

⁵ Now in the law Moses commanded us to stone such: what then sayest thou of her?

⁶ And this they said, trying him, that they might have whereof to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.

⁷ But when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

⁸ And again he stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground.

⁹ And they, when they heard it, went out one by one, beginning from the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman, where she was, in the midst.

¹⁰ And Jesus lifted up himself, and said unto her, Woman, where are they? did no man condemn thee?

¹¹ And she said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said, Neither do I condemn thee: go thy way; from henceforth sin no more.

¹ but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

² At dawn, He came back into the temple. All the people were coming to Him, and He sat down and began to teach them.

³ The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman caught in adultery, and having set her in the midst,

⁴ they told Him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in adultery, in the very act.

⁵ In the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. What do You say?”

⁶ They were saying this, testing Him, so that they might have grounds to accuse Him. Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with His finger, as if He didn’t hear.

⁷ When they persisted in asking Him, He straightened up, and told them, “Let whoever is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”

⁸ He stooped down, again, and wrote on the ground.

⁹ When they heard this, they began to go out one by one, beginning with the older ones. Jesus was left alone with the woman still standing there.

¹⁰ Straightening up, Jesus asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”

¹¹ She said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go and sin no more.”

¹ Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

⁹ And they which heard it, being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

¹⁰ When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

¹¹ She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

¹ But Jesus went with us disciples to Olive Tree Hill and we stayed near there that night.

² Early the next morning, we returned to the Temple courtyard. Many people gathered around Jesus, so he sat down to teach them.

³ Then men who taught the Jewish laws and some of SYN the Pharisee religious group brought a woman to him. She was seized { They had arranged to seize her} while she was having sex with a man who was not her husband. They made her stand up in front of the group that was listening to Jesus.

⁴ Then they said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was seized { we seized this woman} while she was having sex with a man who is not her husband.

⁵ Moses commanded us in the laws that he gave us that we should throw stones at such women and kill them. So what do you say we should do?”

⁶ They asked this question as a trap so that they could accuse him. If he said that they should not kill her, they would shame him for disobeying the law of Moses. If he said that they should kill her, they could accuse him to the Roman governor. But Jesus bent down and wrote something on the ground with his finger.

⁷ While they continued to question him, he stood up and said to them, “Whichever one of you has never sinned can be the first one to start throwing stones at her.”

⁸ Then he stooped down and wrote some more on the ground.

⁹ After they heard what he said, those who were questioning him went away, one by one, the older ones first and then the younger ones, knowing they were all sinners. Finally only Jesus was there, along with the woman.

¹⁰ Jesus stood up and asked her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one said you must die for your sin?”

¹¹ She said, “No, sir, no one.” Then Jesus said, “I do not condemn you either. Go home now, and do not continue your sinful life any longer!”

¹ but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

³ Now the scribes and Pharisees came, with a woman who had been taken in the act of sinning against the married relation;

⁴ And putting her forward, they said to him, Master, this woman has been taken in the very act of sinning against the married relation.

⁵ Now in the law Moses gave directions that such women were to be stoned; what do you say about it?

⁶ They said this, testing him, so that they might have something against him. But Jesus, with his head bent down, made letters on the floor with his finger.

⁷ But when they went on with their questions, he got up and said to them, Let him among you who is without sin be the first to send a stone at her.

⁸ And again, with bent head, he made letters on the floor.

⁹ And when his words came to their ears, they went out one by one, starting with the oldest even to the last, because they were conscious of what was in their hearts: and Jesus was there by himself with the woman before him.

¹⁰ Then Jesus got up, and seeing nobody but the woman, he said to her, Where are the men who said things against you? did no one give a decision against you?

¹¹ And she said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said, And I do not give a decision against you: go, and never do wrong again.

¹ But Jesus went to the mount of Olives.

⁷ But when they continued asking him, he lifted himself up and said to them, Let him that is without sin among you first cast the stone at her.

⁸ And again stooping down he wrote on the ground.

⁹ But they, having heard that, went out one by one beginning from the elder ones until the last; and Jesus was left alone and the woman standing there.

¹⁰ And Jesus, lifting himself up and seeing no one but the woman, said to her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? Has no one condemned thee?

¹¹ And she said, No one, sir. And Jesus said to her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

¹ And Jesus went unto mount Olivet.

⁹ But they hearing this, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest. And Jesus alone remained, and the woman standing in the midst.

¹⁰ Then Jesus lifting up himself, said to her: Woman, where are they that accused thee? Hath no man condemned thee?

¹¹ Who said: No man, Lord. And Jesus said: Neither will I condemn thee. Go, and now sin no more.

¹ But Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

⁶ But this they said, testing Him, that they might have an accusation against Him. But Jesus, stooping down, began to write on the ground with His finger, not taking notice.

⁷ And while they were continuing questioning Him, rising up, He said unto them, “He who is without sin among you, let him be the first to cast a stone at her.”

⁸ And again He stooped down and wrote on the ground.

⁹ And those who heard it began to go out one by one, beginning with the oldest even to the last. And Jesus was left alone, and the woman being in the midst.

¹⁰ And standing up and seeing no one but the woman, Jesus said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”

¹¹ She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”

¹ Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

⁴ they say to Him: “Teacher, we found this woman committing adultery, in the very act.

⁵ Now in our law Moses commanded that such women are to be stoned; so what do you say?”

⁶ They said this to test Him, so that they might have an accusation against Him. But stooping down Jesus began to write on the ground with His finger, taking no notice.

⁷ But since they kept on asking Him, straightening up He said to them, “Let the one without sin among you throw the first stone at her.”

⁸ And stooping down again He continued writing on the ground.

⁹ Now upon hearing this, and being convicted by their conscience, they began to go out one by one, starting with the older ones down to the least. So only Jesus was left, with the woman in the center.

¹⁰ So straightening up, and not seeing anyone except the woman, Jesus said to her: “Where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?”

¹¹ So she said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said to her: “Neither do I condemn you. Go, and from now on don't sin any more!”

¹ but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

³ The religious teachers and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught committing adultery and made her stand before everyone.

⁴ They said to Jesus, “Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.

⁵ Now in the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women. What do you say?”

⁶ They said this to try and trap Jesus so they could condemn him. But Jesus bent down and wrote on the ground with his finger.

⁷ They kept on demanding an answer, so he stood up and told them, “Whichever one of you has never sinned may throw the first stone at her.”

⁸ Then he bent down again and went on writing on the ground.

⁹ When they heard this they began to leave, one by one, starting with the oldest until Jesus was left in the middle of the crowd with the woman still standing there.

¹⁰ Jesus straightened up and asked her, “Where are they? Didn't anybody stay to condemn you?”

¹¹ “No one did, sir,” she replied. “I don't condemn you either,” Jesus told her. “Go, and don't sin anymore.”

¹ And Iesus went vnto the mount of Oliues,

⁷ And while they continued asking him, hee lift himselfe vp, and sayde vnto them, Let him that is among you without sinne, cast the first stone at her.

⁸ And againe hee stouped downe, and wrote on the ground.

⁹ And when they heard it, being accused by their owne conscience, they went out one by one, beginning at ye eldest euen to the last: so Iesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the mids.

¹⁰ When Iesus had lift vp himselfe againe, and sawe no man, but the woman, hee saide vnto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

¹¹ She said, No man, Lord. And Iesus said, Neither do I condemne thee: go and sinne no more.

⁸ And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

⁹ When they heard that, they went out one by one, beginning with the eldest; and Jesus was left alone with the woman in the middle of the Court.

¹⁰ Raising himself, Jesus said to her, “Woman, where are they? Did no one condemn you?”

¹¹ “No one, Sir,” she answered. “Neither do I condemn you,” said Jesus “go, and do not sin again.”

² Now very early in the morning (seventh month 22nd day), he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him. He sat down, and taught them. (This day is called Sh'mini Atrzeret ·Eighth day Assembly·.)

³ The Torah-Teachers and the Pharisees Separated brought a woman taken in moicheia ·adultery· and set her in the midst of Yeshua Salvation.

⁴ They told him, “Teacher, we found this woman moicheuo ·committing adultery·, in the very act.

⁵ Now in our Torah ·Teaching·, Moses Drawn out enjoined us that such a woman be stoned to death. What then do you say about her?”

⁶ They said this testing him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Yeshua Salvation stooped down, and wrote on the ground with his finger.

⁷ But when they continued asking him, he looked up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw the first stone at her.”

⁴ and sayde vnto him: Master this woman was taken in advoutry even as the dede was a doyng.

⁵ Moses in the lawe commaunded vs that suche shuld be stoned. What sayest thou ther fore?

⁶ And this they sayde to tempt him: that they myght have wherof to accuse him. Iesus stouped doune and with his fynger wrote on the grounde.

⁷ And whyll they continued axynge him he lyfte him selfe vp and sayde vnto them: let him that is amonge you with out synne cast the fyrst stone at her.

⁸ And agayne he stouped doune and wrote on the grounde.

⁹ And assone as they hearde that they went out one by one the eldest fyrst. And Iesus was lefte a lone and the woman stondynge in the myddes.

¹⁰ When Iesus had lyfte vp him selfe agayne and sawe no man but the woman he sayde vnto hyr. Woman where are those thyne accusars? Hath no man condempned the?

¹¹ She sayde: No man Lorde. And Iesus sayde: Nether do I condempne the. Goo and synne no moare.

¹⁰ Jesus, standing up, saw her and said, “Woman, where are your accusers? Did no one condemn you?”

¹¹ She said, “No one, Lord.” Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you. Go your way. From now on, sin no more.”

¹ but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.

² Now very early in the morning, he came again into the temple, and all the people came to him. He sat down and taught them.

³ The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman taken in adultery. Having set her in the middle,

⁴ they told him, “Teacher, we found this woman in adultery, in the very act.

⁵ Now in our law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. What then do you say about her?”

⁶ They said this testing him, that they might have something to accuse him of. But Jesus stooped down and wrote on the ground with his finger.

⁷ But when they continued asking him, he looked up and said to them, “He who is without sin amongst you, let him throw the first stone at her.”

⁸ Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground with his finger.

⁹ They, when they heard it, being convicted by their conscience, went out one by one, beginning from the oldest, even to the last. Jesus was left alone with the woman where she was, in the middle.

⁶ This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground, as though he heard them not .

⁷ So when they continued asking him, he raised himself, and said to them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

⁸ And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

⁹ And they who heard it , being convicted by their own conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, even to the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

¹⁰ When Jesus had raised himself, and saw none but the woman, he said to her, Woman, where are those thy accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

⁹ And they hearing these things, went away one after another, and they began from the elder men; and Jesus dwelt alone, and the woman standing in the middle.

¹⁰ And Jesus raised himself, and said to her, Woman, where be they that accused thee? no man hath con-demned thee.

¹¹ She said, No man, Lord. Jesus said to her, Neither I shall condemn thee; go thou, and now afterward do not thou sin more or do not thou do sin.

¹ But Jesus went into the mount of Olivet. (And then Jesus went to the Mount of Olives.)

² And early again (the next morning) he came into the temple; and all the people came to him; and he sat, and taught them.

³ And (the) scribes and (the) Pharisees brought a woman taken in adultery, and they setted her in the middle (or and they put her in the midst of everyone),

⁴ and said to him, Master, this woman is now taken in adultery. (and said to him, Teacher, this woman was caught in adultery.)

⁵ And in the law Moses commanded us to stone such; therefore what sayest thou?

⁶ And they said this thing tempting (or to test) him, (so) that they might accuse him. And Jesus bowed himself down, and wrote with his finger in the earth (or and wrote on the ground with his finger).

⁷ And when they abided or continued asking him, he raised himself (up), and said to them, He of you that is without sin, first cast a stone into her, (or He of you who is without sin, throw the first stone at her).

⁸ And again he bowed down himself, and wrote in the earth (or and wrote on the ground).

⁹ And they hearing these things, went away one after another, and they began from the elder men; and Jesus dwelt alone, and the woman standing in the middle.

¹⁰ And Jesus raised himself (up), and said to her, Woman, where be they that accused thee? no man hath condemned thee.

¹¹ She said, No man, Lord. Jesus said to her, Neither I shall condemn thee; go thou, and now afterward do not thou (do) sin (any) more, or and now afterward do not thou sin, (or and hereafter, do not do any more sin).

¹ But Jhesus wente in to the mount of Olyuete.

² And eerli eft he cam in to the temple; and al the puple cam to hym; and he sat, and tauyte hem.

³ And scribis and Fariseis bryngen a womman takun in auoutrye, and thei settiden hir in the myddil,

⁴ and seiden to hym, Maystir, this womman is now takun in auoutrie.

⁵ And in the lawe Moises comaundide vs to stoone suche; therfor what seist thou?

⁶ And thei seiden this thing temptynge hym, that thei myyten accuse hym. And Jhesus bowide hym silf doun, and wroot with his fyngur in the erthe.

⁷ And whanne thei abiden axynge hym, he reiside hym silf, and seide to hem, He of you that is without synne, first caste a stoon in to hir.

⁸ And eft he bowide hym silf, and wroot in the erthe.

⁹ And thei herynge these thingis, wenten awei oon aftir anothir, and thei bigunnen fro the eldre men; and Jhesus dwelte aloone, and the womman stondynge in the myddil.

¹⁰ And Jhesus reiside hym silf, and seide to hir, Womman, where ben thei that accusiden thee? no man hath dampned thee.

¹¹ Sche seide, No man, Lord. Jhesus seide `to hir, Nethir Y schal dampne thee; go thou, and now aftirward nyle thou synne more.

¹ And at dawn he came again to the temple,

² and all the people were coming unto him, and having sat down, he was teaching them;

³ and the scribes and the Pharisees bring unto him a woman having been taken in adultery, and having set her in the midst,

⁴ they say to him, 'Teacher, this woman was taken in the very crime — committing adultery,

⁵ and in the law, Moses did command us that such be stoned; thou, therefore, what dost thou say?'

⁶ and this they said, trying him, that they might have to accuse him. And Jesus, having stooped down, with the finger he was writing on the ground,

⁷ and when they continued asking him, having bent himself back, he said unto them, 'The sinless of you — let him first cast the stone at her;'

⁸ and again having stooped down, he was writing on the ground,

⁹ and they having heard, and by the conscience being convicted, were going forth one by one, having begun from the elders — unto the last; and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

¹⁰ And Jesus having bent himself back, and having seen no one but the woman, said to her, 'Woman, where are those — thine accusers? did no one pass sentence upon thee?'

¹¹ and she said, 'No one, Sir;' and Jesus said to her, 'Neither do I pass sentence on thee; be going on, and no more sin.'
