Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this, said, 鈥淭his is a hard saying; who can hear it?鈥
And Jesus, knowing in Himself that His disciples were murmuring about this, He said to them, 鈥淒oes this offend you?
What then if you should see the Son of Man ascending where He was before?
It is the Spirit who makes alive; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
But there are some of you who do not believe.鈥 (For Jesus knew from the beginning who were the ones who did not believe, and who was the one who would betray Him).
And He said, 鈥淏ecause of this I have said to you that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted to him by My Father.鈥
From this time many of His disciples turned back and no longer walked with Him.
Then Jesus said to the twelve, 鈥淒o you also want to go away?鈥
But Simon Peter answered Him, 鈥淟ord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life.
Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.鈥
Jesus answered them, 鈥淒id I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?鈥
Now He was speaking about Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon, for he was intending to betray Him, though he was one of the twelve.
