⁶ And this he said to prove him: for he himself knew what he would do.

⁷ Philip answered him, Two hundred shillings’ worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that every one may take a little.

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, saith unto him,

⁹ There is a lad here, who hath five barley loaves, and two fishes: but what are these among so many?

¹⁰ Jesus said, Make the people sit down. Now there was much grass in the place. So the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

¹¹ Jesus therefore took the loaves; and having given thanks, he distributed to them that were set down; likewise also of the fishes as much as they would.

¹² And when they were filled, he saith unto his disciples, Gather up the broken pieces which remain over, that nothing be lost.

¹³ So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which remained over unto them that had eaten.

¹⁴ When therefore the people saw the sign which he did, they said, This is of a truth the prophet that cometh into the world.

¹⁵ Jesus therefore perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him king, withdrew again into the mountain himself alone.

¹⁶ And when evening came, his disciples went down unto the sea;

¹⁷ and they entered into a boat, and were going over the sea unto Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.

¹⁸ And the sea was rising by reason of a great wind that blew.

¹⁹ When therefore they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they behold Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the boat: and they were afraid.

²⁰ But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.

²¹ They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat: and straightway the boat was at the land whither they were going.

²² On the morrow the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, save one, and that Jesus entered not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples went away alone

⁶ He said this to test him, for He knew what He would do.

⁷ Philip answered, “Two hundred denarii worth of bread wouldn’t even be enough for everyone to receive a little!”

⁸ One of Jesus’ disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother, said to Him,

⁹ “There is a boy here who has five barley loaves and two fish, but what is that among so many people?”

¹⁰ Jesus said, “Have the people sit down.” There was plenty of grass there, so the men sat down, in number about five thousand.

¹¹ Jesus took the loaves, and when He had given thanks, He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those sitting down. He did likewise with the fish, as much as they wanted.

¹² When they were filled, He told His disciples, “Gather up the leftover pieces, so that nothing may be wasted.”

¹³ Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.

¹⁴ When the people saw the sign which He had performed, they said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

¹⁵ When Jesus perceived that they meant to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He withdrew again to the mountain by Himself.

¹⁶ When evening came, Jesus’ disciples went down to the sea,

¹⁷ got into the boat, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. It was already dark, and Jesus had not come to them.

¹⁸ The sea arose because a great wind was blowing.

¹⁹ When they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat. They were terrified,

²⁰ but He told them, “It’s me. Don’t be afraid.”

²¹ Then they willingly took Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.

²² The next day, the crowd that had stayed on the other side of the sea saw that there had been only one boat there. They also saw that Jesus had not gone in the boat with His disciples, but that His disciples had gone away alone.

¹⁷ And entered into a ship, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.

¹⁸ And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.

⁶ He asked this only to find out if Philip believed what Jesus could do, because Jesus already knew what he himself was going to do.

⁷ Philip replied to him, “ Even if we had the amount of money a man earns in eight months, that would not be enough to buy bread so that each person could have a little bit!”

⁸ Another one of us disciples, Andrew, who was Simon Peter's younger brother, said to Jesus,

⁹ “There is a boy here who has five small barley loaves and two cooked fish. But ◄they will not help much among so many people!/what good will that do among so many people?► RHQ”

¹⁰ Jesus said, “Tell the people to sit down!” There was plenty of grass there, so they all sat down comfortably. There were about five thousand men among the crowd .

¹¹ Then Jesus took the small loaves and the fish and thanked God for them. Then he gave them to us, and we distributed the small loaves and the fish to all the people sitting on the ground. Because God caused the food to keep increasing, everyone ate as much as they wanted.

¹² When everyone had all the food they wanted, he said to us disciples, “Gather up the pieces that are left over. Do not let anything be wasted!”

¹³ So we gathered up the pieces of the small loaves that were left over by those who had eaten. We filled twelve baskets with those pieces!

¹⁴ After the people saw that miracle that Jesus had performed, many of them started to say, “Surely this is the prophet like Moses that God promised to send to the world!”

¹⁵ So, because Jesus realized that they were about to come and seize him to make him their king, he left them again and went up into the hills by himself.

¹⁶ When it was evening, we disciples went down to Galilee Lake.

¹⁷ When it became dark and Jesus had still not joined us, we got into a boat and went across the lake towards Capernaum city.

¹⁸ A strong wind started to blow and caused the water ◄to become very rough/to have high waves►.

¹⁹ After we had rowed ◄three or four miles/five or six kilometers►, we saw Jesus coming near the boat; he was walking on the water! So we were terrified!

²⁰ But he said to us, “Do not be afraid! It is I!”

²¹ We were glad to take him into the boat. As soon as we did that, the boat reached the shore where we were going!

²² The next day the crowd of people that had stayed on the other side of the lake were perplexed about how Jesus had left that area. They knew that there had been only one boat there the previous day. They knew that we had gone away in it by ourselves. They knew that Jesus had not gone with us.

⁷ Philip made answer, Bread to the value of two hundred pence would not be enough even to give everyone a little.

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, said to Jesus,

⁹ There is a boy here with five barley cakes and two fishes: but what is that among such a number?

¹⁰ Jesus said, Let the people be seated. Now there was much grass in that place. And those seated on the grass were about five thousand.

¹¹ Then Jesus took the cakes and having given praise to God, he gave them to the people who were seated, and the fishes in the same way, as much as they had need of.

¹² And when they had had enough, Jesus said to his disciples, Take up the broken bits which are over, so that nothing may be wasted.

¹³ So they took them up: twelve baskets full of broken bits of the five cakes which were over after the people had had enough.

¹⁴ And when the people saw the sign which he had done, they said, Truly, this is the prophet who is to come into the world.

¹⁵ Now when Jesus saw that the people were about to come and take him by force to make him a king, he went away again up the mountain by himself.

¹⁶ When evening came the disciples went down to the sea;

¹⁷ And they took a boat and went across the sea in the direction of Capernaum. By then it was dark and still Jesus had not come to them.

¹⁸ The sea was getting rough because of a strong wind which was blowing.

¹⁹ After they had gone three or four miles they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near to the boat; and they had great fear.

²⁰ But he said to them, It is I, have no fear.

²¹ Then they readily took him into the boat: and straight away the boat was at the land to which they were going.

²² The day after, the people who were on the other side of the sea saw that only one small boat had been there, that Jesus had not gone in that boat with the disciples, but that the disciples had gone away by themselves.

⁶ But this he said trying him, for he knew what he was going to do.

⁷ Philip answered him, Loaves for two hundred denarii are not sufficient for them, that each may have some little portion.

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, says to him,

⁹ There is a little boy here who has five barley loaves and two small fishes; but this, what is it for so many?

¹⁰ And Jesus said, Make the men sit down. Now there was much grass in the place: the men therefore sat down, in number about five thousand.

¹¹ And Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks, distributed them to those that were set down; and in like manner of the small fishes as much as they would.

¹² And when they had been filled, he says to his disciples, Gather together the fragments which are over and above, that nothing may be lost.

¹⁸ and the sea was agitated by a strong wind blowing.

¹⁹ Having rowed then about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they see Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the ship; and they were frightened.

²⁰ But he says to them, It is I: be not afraid.

²¹ They were willing therefore to receive him into the ship; and immediately the ship was at the land to which they went.

²⁰ But He said to them, “It is I AM; do not fear.”

²¹ Then they were willing to receive Him into the boat, and immediately the boat arrived at the land to which they were going.

²² On the next day, when the crowd which had remained on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other boat there, except that one in which His disciples had entered, and that Jesus had not entered into the boat with His disciples, but His disciples had gone away alone—

¹¹ Then Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks He distributed them to the disciples, and the disciples to those who were reclining; so too with the fish, as much as they wanted.

¹² So when they were full He says to His disciples, “Collect the leftover fragments so that nothing be wasted.”

¹³ So they collected and filled twelve baskets with fragments from the five barley loaves that were left over from those who had eaten.

¹⁴ Now then, having seen the miraculous sign that Jesus performed the men said, “This One really is the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

¹⁵ So Jesus, perceiving that they were about to come and take Him by force to make Him king, withdrew up the mountain again by Himself, alone.

¹⁶ Now as evening came on His disciples had gone down to the sea,

¹⁷ and getting into the boat they started to go across the sea toward Capernaum. Well it had been dark for a while and Jesus had not come to them.

¹⁸ Further, the sea was being agitated by a strong wind blowing.

¹⁹ Then, after they had rowed some three or four miles, they see Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat; and they were afraid.

²⁰ But He said to them, “It is I; don't be afraid!”

²¹ Then they wanted to receive Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.

²² The next day the crowd that had stayed on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other boat there except the one into which His disciples had entered, and that Jesus had not gotten into the boat with His disciples but only His disciples had gone away—

⁶ He only asked this to see how Philip would respond, because Jesus already knew what he was going to do.

⁷ “Two hundred silver coins wouldn't buy enough bread to give everyone even just a little,” Philip replied.

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, spoke up.

⁹ “There's a boy here who has five barley loaves and a couple of fish, but what good is that when there are so many people?”

¹⁰ “Have everybody sit down,” Jesus said. There was plenty of grass there, so they all sat down, the men numbering around five thousand.

¹¹ Jesus took the bread, gave thanks, and had it handed out to the people as they sat there. Then he did the same with the fishes, making sure the people had as much as they wanted.

¹² Once they were all full, he said to his disciples, “Collect what's left over so nothing is wasted.”

¹³ So they collected and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves the people had eaten.

¹⁴ When the people saw this miracle, they said, “Surely this is the Prophet who was to come into the world.”

¹⁵ Jesus realized that they were about to force him to become their king, so he left them and went up into the hills to be by himself.

¹⁶ When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,

¹⁷ climbed into a boat, and headed across the water towards Capernaum. By now it was night and Jesus had not joined them yet.

¹⁸ A strong wind began blowing and the sea grew rough.

¹⁹ When they had rowed three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea, coming towards the boat. They were very frightened.

²⁰ “Don't be afraid!” he told them. “It's me.”

²¹ Then they gladly took him into the boat, and immediately they reached the shore where they were going.

²² The next day the crowd that had stayed on the other side of the sea noticed that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not got into the boat with his disciples, but they had left without him.

⁷ Philippe answered him, Two hundreth penie worth of bread is not sufficient for them, that euery one of them may take a litle.

⁹ There is a little boy heere, which hath fiue barlie loaues, and two fishes: but what are they among so many?

¹⁶ And when eventide was come, his disciples went down to the sea.

¹⁷ And they went up into a boat, and they came over the sea into Capernaum. And darknesses were made then, and Jesus was not or had not come to them.

¹⁸ And for a great wind blew, the sea rose up.

¹⁹ Therefore when they had rowed as five and twenty furlongs or thirty, they saw Jesus walking on the sea, and to be nigh the boat; and they dreaded.

²⁰ And he said to them, I am; do not ye dread.

²¹ Therefore they would take him into the boat, and anon the boat was at the land, to which they went.

²² On the tother day, the people, that stood over the sea, saw, that there was none other boat there but that one, and that Jesus entered not with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples alone went or went alone.

⁶ But he said this thing, tempting him (or testing him); for he knew what he was to do.

⁷ Philip answered to him, The loaves of two hundred pence suffice not to them, (so) that each man (can) take a little (some)what.

⁸ One of his disciples, Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter, saith to him,

⁹ A child is here, that hath five barley loaves and two fishes; but what be these among so many?

¹⁰ Therefore Jesus saith, Make them sit to the meat. And there was much hay in the place. And so men sat to the meat, as five thousand in number. Therefore Jesus saith, Make ye men to sit at the meat. Forsooth there was much hay in the place. Therefore men sat at the meat, in number as five thousand. (And so Jesus said, Make them to sit down for the meal. And there was much hay in that place. And so the men sat down for the meal, five thousand in number.)

¹¹ And Jesus took the five loaves, and when he had done thankings, he parted (them) to the men that sat to the meat or he parted to men sitting at the meat, and also of the fishes, as much as they would. (And Jesus took the five loaves, and when he had given thanks, he divided them to those who sat down for the meal, and also the fish, as much as they wanted.)

¹² And when they were full-filled (or And when they were filled full), he said to his disciples, Gather ye (up) the remnants that be left, (so) that they perish not.

¹³ And so they gathered, and filled twelve coffins, of the remnant(s) of the five barley loaves and two fishes, that (were) left to them that had eaten. (And so they gathered up, and filled twelve baskets, with the remnants of the five barley loaves and the two fish, that were left by those who had eaten.)

¹⁴ Therefore those men, when they had seen the sign or the token, or (the) miracle, that he had done, said, For this is verily the prophet (or For he is truly the Prophet), that is to come into the world.

¹⁵ And when Jesus had known, that they were to come to take him, and make him king, he flew alone again into an hill (or he went by himself into the hills). +Therefore when Jesus had known, that they were to come that they should ravish him, (or that they had come so that they could snatch him, or they could seize him), and make him king, he alone fled again into an hill.

¹⁶ And when (the) eventide was come, his disciples went down to the sea.

²² On the tother day (or On the next day), the people, that stood over the sea, saw, that there was none other boat there but that one, and that Jesus entered not with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples alone went or but his disciples went alone.

⁶ But he seide this thing, temptynge hym; for he wiste what he was to do.

⁷ Filip answerde to hym, The looues of tweyn hundrid pans sufficen not to hem, that ech man take a litil what.

⁸ Oon of hise disciplis, Andrew, the brothir of Symount Petre,

⁹ seith to him, A child is here, that hath fyue barli looues and twei fischis; but what ben these among so manye?

¹⁰ Therfor Jhesus seith, Make ye hem sitte to the mete. And there was myche hey in the place. And so men saten to the mete, as `fyue thousynde in noumbre.

¹¹ And Jhesus took fyue looues, and whanne he hadde do thankyngis, he departide to men that saten to the mete, and also of the fischis, as myche as thei wolden.

¹² And whanne thei weren fillid, he seide to hise disciplis, Gadir ye the relifs that ben left, that thei perischen not.

¹³ And so thei gadriden, and filliden twelue cofyns of relif of the fyue barli looues and twei fischis, that lefte to hem that hadden etun.

¹⁴ Therfor tho men, whanne thei hadden seyn the signe that he hadde don, seiden, For this is verili the profete, that is to come in to the world.

¹⁵ And whanne Jhesus hadde knowun, that thei weren to come to take hym, and make hym kyng, he fleiy `aloone eft in to an hille.

¹⁶ And whanne euentid was comun, his disciplis wenten doun to the see.

¹⁷ And thei wenten vp in to a boot, and thei camen ouer the see in to Cafarnaum. And derknessis weren maad thanne, and Jhesus was not come to hem.

¹⁸ And for a greet wynde blew, the see roos vp.

¹⁹ Therfor whanne thei hadden rowid as fyue and twenti furlongis or thretti, thei seen Jhesus walkynge on the see, and to be neiy the boot; and thei dredden.

²⁰ And he seide to hem, Y am; nyle ye drede.

²¹ Therfor thei wolden take hym in to the boot, and anoon the boot was at the loond, to which thei wenten.

²² On `the tother dai the puple, that stood ouer the see, say, that ther was noon other boot there but oon, and that Jhesu entride not with hise disciplis in to the boot, but hise disciplis aloone wenten.

⁶ and this he said, trying him, for he himself had known what he was about to do.

⁷ Philip answered him, 'Two hundred denaries' worth of loaves are not sufficient to them, that each of them may receive some little;'

⁸ one of his disciples — Andrew, the brother of Simon Peter — saith to him,

⁹ 'There is one little lad here who hath five barley loaves, and two fishes, but these — what are they to so many?'

¹⁰ And Jesus said, 'Make the men to sit down;' and there was much grass in the place, the men then sat down, in number, as it were, five thousand,

¹¹ and Jesus took the loaves, and having given thanks he distributed to the disciples, and the disciples to those reclining, in like manner, also of the little fishes as much as they wished.

¹² And when they were filled, he saith to his disciples, 'Gather together the broken pieces that are over, that nothing may be lost;'

¹³ they gathered together, therefore, and filled twelve hand-baskets with broken pieces, from the five barley loaves that were over to those having eaten.

¹⁴ The men, then, having seen the sign that Jesus did, said — 'This is truly the Prophet, who is coming to the world;'

¹⁵ Jesus, therefore, having known that they are about to come, and to take him by force that they may make him king, retired again to the mountain himself alone.

¹⁶ And when evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,

¹⁷ and having entered into the boat, they were going over the sea to Capernaum, and darkness had already come, and Jesus had not come unto them,

¹⁸ the sea also — a great wind blowing — was being raised,

¹⁹ having pushed onwards, therefore, about twenty-five or thirty furlongs, they behold Jesus walking on the sea, and coming nigh to the boat, and they were afraid;

²⁰ and he saith to them, 'I am he, be not afraid;'

²¹ they were willing then to receive him into the boat, and immediately the boat came unto the land to which they were going.

²² On the morrow, the multitude that was standing on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other little boat there except one — that into which his disciples entered — and that Jesus went not in with his disciples into the little boat, but his disciples went away alone,
