¹² And when they were filled, he saith unto his disciples, Gather up the broken pieces which remain over, that nothing be lost.

¹³ So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which remained over unto them that had eaten.

¹⁴ When therefore the people saw the sign which he did, they said, This is of a truth the prophet that cometh into the world.

¹⁵ Jesus therefore perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force, to make him king, withdrew again into the mountain himself alone.

¹⁶ And when evening came, his disciples went down unto the sea;

¹⁷ and they entered into a boat, and were going over the sea unto Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus had not yet come to them.

¹⁸ And the sea was rising by reason of a great wind that blew.

¹⁹ When therefore they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they behold Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the boat: and they were afraid.

²⁰ But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.

²¹ They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat: and straightway the boat was at the land whither they were going.

²² On the morrow the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, save one, and that Jesus entered not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples went away alone

²³ (howbeit there came boats from Tiberias nigh unto the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks):

²⁴ when the multitude therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they themselves got into the boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

²⁵ And when they found him on the other side of the sea, they said unto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?

²⁶ Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw signs, but because ye ate of the loaves, and were filled.

²⁷ Work not for the food which perisheth, but for the food which abideth unto eternal life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him the Father, even God, hath sealed.

²⁸ They said therefore unto him, What must we do, that we may work the works of God?

²⁹ Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

³⁰ They said therefore unto him, What then doest thou for a sign, that we may see, and believe thee? what workest thou?

³¹ Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.

³² Jesus therefore said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, It was not Moses that gave you the bread out of heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread out of heaven.

³³ For the bread of God is that which cometh down out of heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

³⁴ They said therefore unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

³⁵ Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall not hunger, and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

³⁶ But I said unto you, that ye have seen me, and yet believe not.

³⁷ All that which the Father giveth me shall come unto me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

³⁸ For I am come down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

³⁹ And this is the will of him that sent me, that of all that which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up at the last day.

⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that every one that beholdeth the Son, and believeth on him, should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

⁴¹ The Jews therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, I am the bread which came down out of heaven.

⁴² And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? how doth he now say, I am come down out of heaven?

⁴³ Jesus answered and said unto them, Murmur not among yourselves.

⁴⁴ No man can come to me, except the Father that sent me draw him: and I will raise him up in the last day.

⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, And they shall all be taught of God. Every one that hath heard from the Father, and hath learned, cometh unto me.

⁴⁶ Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he that is from God, he hath seen the Father.

⁴⁷ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth hath eternal life.

⁴⁸ I am the bread of life.

⁴⁹ Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.

⁵⁰ This is the bread which cometh down out of heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.

⁵¹ I am the living bread which came down out of heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: yea and the bread which I will give is my flesh, for the life of the world.

⁵² The Jews therefore strove one with another, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?

⁵³ Jesus therefore said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, ye have not life in yourselves.

⁵⁴ He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.

⁵⁵ For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

⁵⁶ He that eateth my flesh and drinketh my blood abideth in me, and I in him.

⁵⁷ As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father; so he that eateth me, he also shall live because of me.

⁵⁸ This is the bread which came down out of heaven: not as the fathers ate, and died; he that eateth this bread shall live for ever.

⁵⁹ These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

⁶⁰ Many therefore of his disciples, when they heard this, said, This is a hard saying; who can hear it?

⁶¹ But Jesus knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said unto them, Doth this cause you to stumble?

⁶² What then if ye should behold the Son of man ascending where he was before?

⁶³ It is the spirit that giveth life; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I have spoken unto you are spirit, and are life.

⁶⁴ But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who it was that should betray him.

⁶⁵ And he said, For this cause have I said unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it be given unto him of the Father.

⁶⁶ Upon this many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.

¹² When they were filled, He told His disciples, “Gather up the leftover pieces, so that nothing may be wasted.”

¹³ Therefore they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.

¹⁴ When the people saw the sign which He had performed, they said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

¹⁵ When Jesus perceived that they meant to come and take Him by force to make Him king, He withdrew again to the mountain by Himself.

¹⁶ When evening came, Jesus’ disciples went down to the sea,

¹⁷ got into the boat, and went over the sea toward Capernaum. It was already dark, and Jesus had not come to them.

¹⁸ The sea arose because a great wind was blowing.

¹⁹ When they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near the boat. They were terrified,

²⁰ but He told them, “It’s me. Don’t be afraid.”

²¹ Then they willingly took Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.

²² The next day, the crowd that had stayed on the other side of the sea saw that there had been only one boat there. They also saw that Jesus had not gone in the boat with His disciples, but that His disciples had gone away alone.

²³ Then some other boats from Tiberias landed near the place where the people had eaten the bread after the Lord had given thanks.

²⁴ When the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor His disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum looking for Jesus.

²⁵ When they found Him on the other side of the sea, they asked Him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?”

²⁶ Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate the loaves and were filled.

²⁷ Don’t labor for perishable food, but for the food which endures to everlasting life, which the Son of Man will give you, because God the Father has set His seal on Him.”

²⁸ Then they asked Him, “What must we do to do God’s works?”

²⁹ Jesus answered them, “This is God’s work, that you believe in Him who He has sent.”

³⁰ Therefore they asked Him, “What sign will You perform then, that we may see it and believe You? What work will You do?

³¹ Our ancestors ate the manna in the wilderness. As it’s written, ‘He gave them bread from Heaven to eat.’”

³² Jesus told them, “Most assuredly, I tell you, Moses didn’t give you the bread from Heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from Heaven.

³³ For God’s bread is He who comes down from Heaven and gives life to the world.”

³⁴ Then they said to Him, “Lord, give us this bread forever.”

³⁵ Jesus told them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

³⁶ As I told you, you have seen me, and yet you still don’t believe.

³⁷ All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never drive away.

³⁸ I have come down from Heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of Him who sent me.

³⁹ This is the will of the Father who sent me, that of all He has given me I should lose none, but should raise them up at the last day.

⁴⁰ This is also the will of Him who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him may have everlasting life; and I will raise them up at the last day.”

⁴¹ The Jews then grumbled about Jesus, because He said, “I am the bread which came down from Heaven.”

⁴² They were saying, “Isn’t this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How can He claim, ‘I have come down from Heaven’?”

⁴³ Jesus answered, “Stop grumbling among yourselves.

⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless drawn by the Father who sent me, and I will raise that person up on the last day.

⁴⁵ It’s written in the prophets, ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me.

⁴⁶ Nobody has seen the Father except the one who is from God. He has seen the Father.

⁴⁷ Most assuredly, I tell you, everyone who believes in me has everlasting life.

⁴⁸ I am the bread of life.

⁴⁹ Your forefathers ate manna in the wilderness, but they died.

⁵⁰ This is the bread which comes down from Heaven, so that one may eat of it and not die.

⁵¹ I am the living bread that came down from Heaven. Whoever eats of this bread will live forever. The bread that I will give for the life of the world is my flesh.”

⁵² Therefore the Jews argued among themselves, saying, “How can this Man give us His flesh to eat?”

⁵³ Then Jesus told them, “Most assuredly, I tell you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink His blood, you have no life in you.

⁵⁴ Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise that person up at the last day,

⁵⁵ for my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

⁵⁶ One who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in that person.

⁵⁷ Just as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so the one who feeds on me will live because of me.

⁵⁸ This is the bread which came down from Heaven, not like the manna your forefathers ate, and died. A person who eats this bread will live forever.”

⁵⁹ He said this while teaching in the synagogue at Capernaum.

⁶⁰ Therefore when many of His disciples heard this, they said, “This is a hard teaching. Who can stand to hear it?”

⁶¹ Jesus, aware that his disciples were complaining about this, asked them, “Does this offend you?

⁶² What if you saw the Son of Man ascend to where He was before?

⁶³ The Spirit gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit and life.

⁶⁴ Yet there are some of you who don’t believe.” Jesus knew from the beginning who didn’t believe, and who would betray Him.

⁶⁵ He said, “For this reason I have told you, that no one can come to me, unless it has been granted by the Father.”

⁶⁶ Because of this, many of His disciples turned back and didn’t walk with him any more.

¹² When everyone had all the food they wanted, he said to us disciples, “Gather up the pieces that are left over. Do not let anything be wasted!”

¹³ So we gathered up the pieces of the small loaves that were left over by those who had eaten. We filled twelve baskets with those pieces!

¹⁴ After the people saw that miracle that Jesus had performed, many of them started to say, “Surely this is the prophet like Moses that God promised to send to the world!”

¹⁵ So, because Jesus realized that they were about to come and seize him to make him their king, he left them again and went up into the hills by himself.

¹⁶ When it was evening, we disciples went down to Galilee Lake.

¹⁷ When it became dark and Jesus had still not joined us, we got into a boat and went across the lake towards Capernaum city.

¹⁸ A strong wind started to blow and caused the water ◄to become very rough/to have high waves►.

¹⁹ After we had rowed ◄three or four miles/five or six kilometers►, we saw Jesus coming near the boat; he was walking on the water! So we were terrified!

²⁰ But he said to us, “Do not be afraid! It is I!”

²¹ We were glad to take him into the boat. As soon as we did that, the boat reached the shore where we were going!

²² The next day the crowd of people that had stayed on the other side of the lake were perplexed about how Jesus had left that area. They knew that there had been only one boat there the previous day. They knew that we had gone away in it by ourselves. They knew that Jesus had not gone with us.

²³ Then some men came from Tiberias city in boats. They were hoping to take some of the crowd back to Tiberias. They arrived near the place where the people had eaten the food after Jesus had given thanks and caused it to multiply.

²⁴ When the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor we disciples were there, some of them got into those boats and they sailed to Capernaum to find Jesus.

²⁵ When they found him in Capernaum further around the lake, they asked him, “Teacher, since you(sg) did not come in a boat, when and how did you get here?”

²⁶ Jesus replied to them, “Listen to this carefully: Do you know why you are looking for me? It is not because you saw me perform miracles and as a result have realized who I really am. No! You are looking for me only because you had plenty of bread to eat after I provided it for you by performing a miracle.

²⁷ Stop desiring food that will soon spoil! Instead, desire to get spiritual food that will last forever! Yearn for eternal life! That is what I, the one who came from heaven, will give you. God my Father has shown that he approves of me enabling me to do that.”

²⁸ Then the people asked him, “What things should we do to please God?”

²⁹ Jesus replied, “What God wants you to do is this: He wants you to believe that I am the one he has sent.”

³⁰ So they said to him, “Then perform another miracle so that we may see it and believe that you came from God. What miracle would you like to perform?

³¹ Our ancestors ate the food called manna that God provided for them by a miracle in the desolate area. This is written { The Psalmist wrote this} in the Scriptures about what Moses caused to happen: ‘He gave them food from heaven to eat.’ Will you perform a miracle like that?”

³² So Jesus said to them, “The truth is that it was not Moses who gave your ancestors that food from heaven. No, it was my Father who gave it to them. And my Father is the one who gives you the true food from heaven.

³³ The true bread from God came down from heaven, and he is the one who will give eternal life to the people of the world MTY.”

³⁴ Not understanding what he meant, they said to him, “Sir, give us that kind of bread all the time!”

³⁵ Jesus said to them, “ Just like food MET sustains physical life, I am the one who enables you to have spiritual life. Those who eat ordinary food and drinks will later be hungry and thirsty. But those who come to me to receive that life will never again lack anything spiritually.

³⁶ I told you before that you have seen my miracles, but after seeing them, instead of understanding who I am, you have not believed in me.

³⁷ All the people that my Father entrusts to me will come to me, and I will certainly ◄welcome/never send away► LIT anyone who comes to me.

³⁸ When I came down from heaven, it was not to do what I want. Instead, I came to do what ◄ God/my Father►, who sent me, wants.

³⁹ What the one who sent me wants is that I ◄keep forever all/never lose any► LIT of those whom he has entrusted to me. He wants me to cause all of them to become alive again ◄on the last day/on the day when I judge everyone► MTY.

⁴⁰ Long ago in the desolate area when those who were bitten by snakes looked at the bronze replica of a snake, they were healed MET. What my Father wants is that similarly everyone who looks at what I have done and believes in me will have eternal life. I will cause them to become alive again ◄on the last day/on the day when I judge everyone► MTY.”

⁴¹ The Jewish leaders SYN began to grumble about him because he said, “I am the one who is like true bread who came down from heaven.”

⁴² They said, “◄This man is Jesus, the son of Joseph!/Isn't this man the son of Joseph?► RHQ We know the names of both his father and his mother. He certainly did not come from heaven, so ◄he is lying by saying ‘I came from heaven.’/why is he now saying, ‘I came from heaven?’► RHQ”

⁴³ Jesus replied to them, “Stop grumbling among yourselves about what I just said!

⁴⁴ My Father, who sent me, makes people want to come to me. No others will come to me to receive eternal life. Those who come to me are the only ones who will believe in me. I will ◄cause them to be alive again/raise them from the dead► ◄on the last day/on the judgment day►.

⁴⁵ It was written ◄ by one of the prophets/by the prophet Isaiah► {◄ One of the prophets/The prophet Isaiah► wrote} about all those who will trust in me, ‘God will teach them all.’ Everyone who listens to what my Father says and learns from him will ◄come to/believe in► me.

⁴⁶ I came from God. I am the only one who has seen my Father. No one else has seen him.

⁴⁷ Listen to this carefully: Everyone who believes ◄ my message/in me► has eternal life.

⁴⁸ Just like food MET sustains your physical life, I am the one who enables you to have spiritual life.

⁴⁹ Even though your ancestors ate the manna while they were traveling in the desolate area, they died anyway.

⁵⁰ But the bread I am talking about is something that came down from heaven. If people eat that bread, their spirits will never die.

⁵¹ I am the one who came down from heaven to enable people to have spiritual life. If people take what I will give them, they will live forever. What I will give them is my flesh, which I will give to all the people in MTY the world in order that they may have spiritual life.”

⁵² Then the Jewish leaders SYN began to argue among themselves. They said, “◄There is no way this man can give us his flesh to eat!/How can this man give us his flesh to eat?►” RHQ

⁵³ So, speaking figuratively of the need for them to accept for themselves the benefits of his sacrificing himself and shedding his blood to atone for their sins MET, Jesus said to them, “Listen carefully to this: Although I am the one who came from heaven, if you do not eat my flesh and drink my blood, you will not have eternal life.

⁵⁴ Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will cause them to become alive again at ◄the last day/the judgment day►,

⁵⁵ because my flesh and my blood are truly spiritual food.

⁵⁶ Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood will have a close relationship with me, and I will have a close relationship with them.

⁵⁷ My Father, who is the source of everything that lives, sent me, and I live because my Father has given me life. Similarly those who eat my flesh will live eternally because of what I do for them.

⁵⁸ I am the true bread that came down from heaven. Although our ancestors ate manna, they later died anyway. But those who eat this bread will live forever.”

⁵⁹ He said this while he was teaching people in ◄the synagogue/the Jewish meeting place► in Capernaum.

⁶⁰ After they heard him say that, many of his disciples said, “What he is teaching is hard to understand; ◄it is very difficult for anyone to accept it!/how can anyone accept it?► RHQ”

⁶¹ Jesus was aware that his disciples were grumbling about it, so he said to them, “◄I am sorry that this is offending you./Is this offending you?► RHQ

⁶² ◄ Perhaps you will believe my message if you see me, the one who came from heaven, ascending there to where I was before!/ (What will you think if you see me, the one who came from heaven, ascending there to where I was before)?► RHQ

⁶³ God's Spirit is the one who gives people eternal life. Human efforts are no help at all for giving people eternal life. The message I have spoken to you gives spiritual life (OR, comes from God's Spirit and gives eternal life.)

⁶⁴ But there are some of you who do not believe my message.” Jesus said that because he knew from the time he started MTY his ministry which of them would not believe his message. He also knew who would ◄betray him/enable his enemies to seize him►.

⁶⁵ Then he continued by saying, “That is why I told you that only those whom my Father has enabled to believe in me will come to me and receive eternal life.”

⁶⁶ From that time, many of his disciples left him and no longer went with him.

¹² When they were filled, he said to his disciples, “Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost.”

¹³ So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.

¹⁴ When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said, “This is truly the prophet who comes into the world.”

¹⁵ Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

¹⁶ When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea.

¹⁷ They entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them.

¹⁸ The sea was tossed by a great wind blowing.

¹⁹ When therefore they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid.

²⁰ But he said to them, “It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

²¹ They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.

²² On the next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except the one in which his disciples had embarked, and that Jesus hadn’t entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples had gone away alone.

²³ However, boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.

²⁴ When the multitude therefore saw that Jesus wasn’t there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

²⁵ When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?”

²⁶ Jesus answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.

²⁷ Don’t work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has sealed him.”

²⁸ They said therefore to him, “What must we do, that we may work the works of God?”

²⁹ Jesus answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”

³⁰ They said therefore to him, “What then do you do for a sign, that we may see and believe you? What work do you do?

³¹ Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness. As it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’”

⁴³ Therefore Jesus answered them, “Don’t murmur among yourselves.

⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up in the last day.

⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who hears from the Father and has learned, comes to me.

⁴⁶ Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is from God. He has seen the Father.

⁴⁷ Most certainly, I tell you, he who believes in me has eternal life.

⁴⁸ I am the bread of life.

⁴⁹ Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and they died.

⁵⁰ This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that anyone may eat of it and not die.

⁵⁶ He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him.

⁶³ It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.

⁶⁴ But there are some of you who don’t believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who didn’t believe, and who it was who would betray him.

⁶⁵ He said, “For this cause I have said to you that no one can come to me, unless it is given to him by my Father.”

¹³ So they took them up: twelve baskets full of broken bits of the five cakes which were over after the people had had enough.

¹⁴ And when the people saw the sign which he had done, they said, Truly, this is the prophet who is to come into the world.

¹⁵ Now when Jesus saw that the people were about to come and take him by force to make him a king, he went away again up the mountain by himself.

¹⁶ When evening came the disciples went down to the sea;

¹⁷ And they took a boat and went across the sea in the direction of Capernaum. By then it was dark and still Jesus had not come to them.

¹⁸ The sea was getting rough because of a strong wind which was blowing.

¹⁹ After they had gone three or four miles they saw Jesus walking on the sea and coming near to the boat; and they had great fear.

²⁰ But he said to them, It is I, have no fear.

²¹ Then they readily took him into the boat: and straight away the boat was at the land to which they were going.

²² The day after, the people who were on the other side of the sea saw that only one small boat had been there, that Jesus had not gone in that boat with the disciples, but that the disciples had gone away by themselves.

²³ Some other boats, however, came from Tiberias near to the place where they had taken the bread after the Lord had given praise.

²⁴ So when the people saw that Jesus was not there, or his disciples, they got into those boats and went over to Capernaum looking for Jesus.

²⁵ And when they came across him on the other side of the sea they said, Rabbi, when did you come here?

²⁶ Jesus, answering them, said, Truly I say to you, You come after me, not because you saw signs, but because you were given the bread and had enough.

²⁷ Let your work not be for the food which comes to an end, but for the food which goes on for eternal life, which the Son of man will give to you, for on him has God the Father put his mark.

²⁸ Then they said to him, How may we do the works of God?

²⁹ Jesus, answering, said to them, This is to do the work of God: to have faith in him whom God has sent.

³⁰ So they said, What sign do you give us, so that we may see and have faith in you? What do you do?

³¹ Our fathers had the manna in the waste land, as the Writings say, He gave them bread from heaven.

³² Jesus then said to them, Truly I say to you, What Moses gave you was not the bread from heaven; it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven.

³⁴ Ah, Lord, they said, give us that bread for ever!

³⁵ And this was the answer of Jesus: I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never be in need of food, and he who has faith in me will never be in need of drink.

³⁶ But it is as I said to you: you have seen me, and still you have no faith.

³⁷ Whatever the Father gives to me will come to me; and I will not send away anyone who comes to me.

³⁸ For I have come down from heaven, not to do my pleasure, but the pleasure of him who sent me.

³⁹ And this is the pleasure of him who sent me, that I am not to let out of my hands anything which he has given me, but I am to give it new life on the last day.

⁴⁰ This, I say, is my Father's pleasure, that everyone who sees the Son and has faith in him may have eternal life: and I will take him up on the last day.

⁴¹ Now the Jews said bitter things about Jesus because of his words, I am the bread which came down from heaven.

⁴² And they said, Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have seen? How is it then that he now says, I have come down from heaven?

⁴³ Jesus made answer and said, Do not say things against me, one to another.

⁴⁴ No man is able to come to me if the Father who sent me does not give him the desire to come: and I will take him up from the dead on the last day.

⁴⁵ The writings of the prophets say, And they will all have teaching from God. Everyone whose ears have been open to the teaching of the Father comes to me.

⁴⁶ Not that anyone has ever seen the Father; only he who is from God, he has seen the Father.

⁴⁷ Truly I say to you, He who has faith in me has eternal life.

⁴⁸ I am the bread of life.

⁴⁹ Your fathers took the manna in the waste land — and they are dead.

⁵⁰ The bread which comes from heaven is such bread that a man may take it for food and never see death.

⁵¹ I am the living bread which has come from heaven: if any man takes this bread for food he will have life for ever: and more than this, the bread which I will give is my flesh which I will give for the life of the world.

⁵² Then the Jews had an angry discussion among themselves, saying, How is it possible for this man to give us his flesh for food?

⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, Truly I say to you, If you do not take the flesh of the Son of man for food, and if you do not take his blood for drink, you have no life in you.

⁵⁴ He who takes my flesh for food and my blood for drink has eternal life: and I will take him up from the dead at the last day.

⁵⁵ My flesh is true food and my blood is true drink.

⁵⁶ He who takes my flesh for food and my blood for drink is in me and I in him.

⁵⁷ As the living Father has sent me, and I have life because of the Father, even so he who takes me for his food will have life because of me.

⁵⁸ This is the bread which has come down from heaven. It is not like the food which your fathers had: they took of the manna, and are dead; but he who takes this bread for food will have life for ever.

⁵⁹ Jesus said these things in the Synagogue while he was teaching at Capernaum.

⁶⁰ Then, hearing this, a number of his disciples said, This is a hard saying; who is able to take in such teaching?

⁶¹ When Jesus became conscious that his disciples were protesting about what he said, he said to them, Does this give you trouble?

⁶² What then will you say if you see the Son of man going up to where he was before?

⁶³ The spirit is the life giver; the flesh is of no value: the words which I have said to you are spirit and they are life.

⁶⁴ But still some of you have no faith. For it was clear to Jesus from the first who they were who had no faith, and who it was who would be false to him.

⁶⁵ And he said, This is why I said to you, No man is able to come to me if he is not given the power to do so by the Father.

⁶⁶ Because of what he said, a number of the disciples went back and would no longer go with him.

¹² And when they had been filled, he says to his disciples, Gather together the fragments which are over and above, that nothing may be lost.

¹³ They gathered them therefore together, and filled twelve hand-baskets full of fragments of the five barley loaves, which were over and above to those that had eaten.

¹⁴ The men therefore, having seen the sign which Jesus had done, said, This is truly the prophet which is coming into the world.

¹⁵ Jesus therefore knowing that they were going to come and seize him, that they might make him king, departed again to the mountain himself alone.

¹⁶ But when evening was come, his disciples went down to the sea,

¹⁷ and having gone on board ship, they went over the sea to Capernaum. And it had already become dark, and Jesus had not come to them,

¹⁸ and the sea was agitated by a strong wind blowing.

¹⁹ Having rowed then about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they see Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the ship; and they were frightened.

²⁰ But he says to them, It is I: be not afraid.

²¹ They were willing therefore to receive him into the ship; and immediately the ship was at the land to which they went.

²² On the morrow the crowd which stood on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other little ship there except that into which his disciples had got, and that Jesus had not gone with his disciples into the ship, but that his disciples had gone away alone;

²³ (but other little ships out of Tiberias came near to the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks;)

²⁴ when therefore the crowd saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they got into the ships, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

²⁵ And having found him the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when art thou arrived here?

²⁶ Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me not because ye have seen signs, but because ye have eaten of the loaves and been filled.

²⁷ Work not for the food which perishes, but for the food which abides unto life eternal, which the Son of man shall give to you; for him has the Father sealed, even God.

²⁸ They said therefore to him, What should we do that we may work the works of God?

²⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he has sent.

³⁰ They said therefore to him, What sign then doest thou that we may see and believe thee? what dost thou work?

³¹ Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, as it is written, He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.

³² Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, It is not Moses that has given you the bread out of heaven; but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.

³³ For the bread of God is he who comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.

³⁴ They said therefore to him, Lord, ever give to us this bread.

³⁵ And Jesus said to them, I am the bread of life: he that comes to me shall never hunger, and he that believes on me shall never thirst at any time.

³⁶ But I have said to you, that ye have also seen me and do not believe.

³⁷ All that the Father gives me shall come to me, and him that comes to me I will not at all cast out.

³⁸ For I am come down from heaven, not that I should do my will, but the will of him that has sent me.

³⁹ And this is the will of him that has sent me, that of all that he has given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up in the last day.

⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that every one who sees the Son, and believes on him, should have life eternal; and I will raise him up at the last day.

⁴¹ The Jews therefore murmured about him, because he said, I am the bread which has come down out of heaven.

⁴² And they said, Is not this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have known? how then does he say, I am come down out of heaven?

⁴³ Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Murmur not among yourselves.

⁴⁴ No one can come to me except the Father who has sent me draw him, and I will raise him up in the last day.

⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every one that has heard from the Father himself, and has learned of him, comes to me;

⁴⁶ not that any one has seen the Father, except he who is of God, he has seen the Father.

⁴⁷ Verily, verily, I say to you, He that believes on me has life eternal.

⁴⁸ I am the bread of life.

⁴⁹ Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness and died.

⁵⁰ This is the bread which comes down out of heaven, that one may eat of it and not die.

⁵¹ I am the living bread which has come down out of heaven: if any one shall have eaten of this bread he shall live for ever; but the bread withal which I shall give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.

⁵² The Jews therefore contended among themselves, saying, How can he give us this flesh to eat?

⁵³ Jesus therefore said to them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Unless ye shall have eaten the flesh of the Son of man, and drunk his blood, ye have no life in yourselves.

⁵⁴ He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood has life eternal, and I will raise him up at the last day:

⁵⁵ for my flesh is truly food and my blood is truly drink.

⁵⁶ He that eats my flesh and drinks my blood dwells in me and I in him.

⁵⁷ As the living Father has sent me and I live on account of the Father, he also who eats me shall live also on account of me.

⁵⁸ This is the bread which has come down out of heaven. Not as the fathers ate and died: he that eats this bread shall live for ever.

⁵⁹ These things he said in the synagogue, teaching in Capernaum.

⁶⁰ Many therefore of his disciples having heard it said, This word is hard; who can hear it?

⁶¹ But Jesus, knowing in himself that his disciples murmur concerning this, said to them, Does this offend you?

⁶² If then ye see the Son of man ascending up where he was before?

⁶³ It is the Spirit which quickens, the flesh profits nothing: the words which I have spoken unto you are spirit and are life.

⁶⁴ But there are some of you who do not believe. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who would deliver him up.

⁶⁵ And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no one can come to me unless it be given to him from the Father.

⁶⁶ From that time many of his disciples went away back and walked no more with him.

¹² And when they were filled, he said to his disciples: Gather up the fragments that remain, lest they be lost.

¹³ They gathered up therefore, and filled twelve baskets with the fragments of the five barley loaves, which remained over and above to them that had eaten.

¹⁴ Now those men, when they had seen what a miracle Jesus had done, said: This is of a truth the prophet, that is to come into the world.

¹⁵ Jesus therefore, when he knew that they would come to take him by force, and make him king, fled again into the mountain himself alone.

¹⁶ And when evening was come, his disciples went down to the sea.

¹⁷ And when they had gone up into a ship, they went over the sea to Capharnaum; and it was now dark, and Jesus was not come unto them.

¹⁸ And the sea arose, by reason of a great wind that blew.

¹⁹ When they had rowed therefore about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking upon the sea, and drawing nigh to the ship, and they were afraid.

²⁰ But he saith to them: It is I; be not afraid.

²¹ They were willing therefore to take him into the ship; and presently the ship was at the land to which they were going.

²² The next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea, saw that there was no other ship there but one, and that Jesus had not entered into the ship with his disciples, but that his disciples were gone away alone.

²³ But other ships came in from Tiberias; nigh unto the place where they had eaten the bread, the Lord giving thanks.

²⁴ When therefore the multitude saw that Jesus was not there, nor his disciples, they took shipping, and came to Capharnaum, seeking for Jesus.

²⁵ And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him: Rabbi, when camest thou hither?

²⁶ Jesus answered them, and said: Amen, amen I say to you, you seek me, not because you have seen miracles, but because you did eat of the loaves, and were filled.

²⁷ Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that which endureth unto life everlasting, which the Son of man will give you. For him hath God, the Father, sealed.

²⁸ They said therefore unto him: What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?

²⁹ Jesus answered, and said to them: This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he hath sent.

³⁰ They said therefore to him: What sign therefore dost thou shew, that we may see, and may believe thee? What dost thou work?

³¹ Our fathers did eat manna in the desert, as it is written: He gave them bread from heaven to eat.

³² Then Jesus said to them: Amen, amen I say to you; Moses gave you not bread from heaven, but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.

³³ For the bread of God is that which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life to the world.

¹⁹ Therefore having rowed about three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were frightened.

²⁰ But He said to them, “It is I AM; do not fear.”

²¹ Then they were willing to receive Him into the boat, and immediately the boat arrived at the land to which they were going.

²² On the next day, when the crowd which had remained on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other boat there, except that one in which His disciples had entered, and that Jesus had not entered into the boat with His disciples, but His disciples had gone away alone—

²³ however, other boats came from Tiberias, near the place where they ate bread after the Lord had given thanks—

²⁴ when the crowd therefore saw that Jesus was not there, nor His disciples, they got into boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

²⁶ Jesus answered them and said, “Most assuredly I say to you, you seek Me, not because you saw the signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.

²⁷ Do not work for the food that perishes, but for the food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you; for upon Him God the Father has set His seal.”

²⁸ Then they said to Him, “What should we do, that we may work the works of God?”

²⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent.”

³⁰ Therefore they said to Him, “What sign will You do then, so that we may see it and believe You? What work do You perform?

¹⁷ and getting into the boat they started to go across the sea toward Capernaum. Well it had been dark for a while and Jesus had not come to them.

¹⁸ Further, the sea was being agitated by a strong wind blowing.

¹⁹ Then, after they had rowed some three or four miles, they see Jesus walking on the sea and coming near the boat; and they were afraid.

²⁰ But He said to them, “It is I; don't be afraid!”

²¹ Then they wanted to receive Him into the boat, and immediately the boat was at the land to which they were going.

²² The next day the crowd that had stayed on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other boat there except the one into which His disciples had entered, and that Jesus had not gotten into the boat with His disciples but only His disciples had gone away—

²⁴ so when the crowd saw that neither Jesus nor His disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum, looking for Jesus.

²⁵ When they found Him on another side of the sea they said to Him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”

²⁶ Jesus answered them and said: “Most assuredly I say to you, you are not seeking me because you saw miraculous signs, but because you ate the bread and were filled.

²⁷ Do not work for the food that wastes away but for the food that endures into life eternal, which the Son of the Man will give you; because on Him God the Father has set His seal.”

²⁸ So they said to Him, “What should we do so that we may work the works of God?”

²⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, “This is the work of God, that you believe into the One whom He sent.”

³⁰ So they said to Him: “Well then, what sign are you going to do so we may see and believe you? What are you going to perform?

³⁵ So Jesus said to them: “I am the bread of the Life. Whoever comes to me will never hunger, and whoever believes into me will never thirst.

³⁶ But, as I told you, you have actually seen me, yet you do not believe.

³⁷ All that the Father gives me will come to me, and the one who comes to me I will not throw out;

³⁸ because it is not to do my own will that I have come down out of Heaven, but the will of the One who sent me.

³⁹ Now this is the will of the Father who sent me, that I should lose nothing out of all that He has given me, but should raise it up at the last day.

⁴⁰ Again this is the will of Him who sent me, that everyone who ‘sees’ the Son and believes into Him may have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.”

⁴¹ Then the Jews started complaining about Him, because He said, “I am the bread that came down out of Heaven.”

⁴² And they were saying: “Isn't this Jesus the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? So how can he say, ‘I have come down out of Heaven’?”

⁴³ So Jesus answered and said to them: “Stop complaining among yourselves.

⁴⁴ No one is able to come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up at the last day.

⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who listens and learns from the Father comes to me.

⁴⁶ (Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God—He has seen the Father.)

⁴⁷ Most assuredly I say to you: the one believing into me has eternal life.

⁴⁸ “I am the bread of the Life.

⁴⁹ Your fathers ate manna in the desert, and they died.

⁵⁰ This is the bread that comes down out of Heaven, so that anyone may eat of it and not die.

⁵¹ I am the living bread which came down out of Heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live forever. Actually, the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give on behalf of the life of the world.”

⁵² At that the Jews started quarrelling among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?!”

⁵³ So Jesus said to them: “Most assuredly I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of the Man and drink His blood, you do not have Life within yourselves.

⁵⁴ Whoever chews my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

⁵⁵ Really, my flesh is genuine food and my blood is genuine drink.

⁵⁶ Whoever chews my flesh and drinks my blood abides in me and I in him.

⁵⁷ Just as the living Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will live because of me.

⁵⁸ This is the bread that came down out of Heaven. Whoever feeds on this bread of mine will live forever (in contrast to your fathers who ate the manna and died).”

⁵⁹ He said these things while teaching in a synagogue in Capernaum.

⁶⁰ Therefore, upon hearing this many from among His disciples said: “This word is hard! Who is able to hear it?”

⁶¹ So Jesus, knowing in Himself that His disciples were complaining about this, said to them: “Does this offend you?

⁶² What if you should see the Son of the Man going up to where He was at first?

⁶³ The Spirit is the One who makes alive; the flesh does not benefit anything. The words that I speak to you are spirit, are Life.

⁶⁴ But there are some among you who do not believe.” (For Jesus knew from the start who they were who did not believe, and who was betraying Him.)

⁶⁵ And He said, “That is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it has been granted to him by my Father.”

⁶⁶ From that time many of His disciples turned back and stopped going around with Him.

¹² Once they were all full, he said to his disciples, “Collect what's left over so nothing is wasted.”

¹³ So they collected and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves the people had eaten.

¹⁴ When the people saw this miracle, they said, “Surely this is the Prophet who was to come into the world.”

¹⁵ Jesus realized that they were about to force him to become their king, so he left them and went up into the hills to be by himself.

¹⁶ When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,

¹⁷ climbed into a boat, and headed across the water towards Capernaum. By now it was night and Jesus had not joined them yet.

¹⁸ A strong wind began blowing and the sea grew rough.

¹⁹ When they had rowed three or four miles, they saw Jesus walking on the sea, coming towards the boat. They were very frightened.

²⁰ “Don't be afraid!” he told them. “It's me.”

²¹ Then they gladly took him into the boat, and immediately they reached the shore where they were going.

²² The next day the crowd that had stayed on the other side of the sea noticed that there had been only one boat there, and that Jesus had not got into the boat with his disciples, but they had left without him.

²³ Then other boats arrived from Tiberias, landing near to the place where they'd eaten the bread once the Lord had blessed it.

²⁴ Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went over to Capernaum, looking for Jesus.

²⁵ When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”

²⁶ “I tell you the truth,” Jesus replied, “you're looking for me because you ate as much bread as you wanted, not because you understood the miracles.

²⁷ Don't be preoccupied about food that doesn't last, but concentrate on the lasting food of eternal life which the Son of man will give you, for God the Father has placed his seal of approval on him.”

²⁸ So they asked him, “What do we have to do in order to do what God wants?”

²⁹ Jesus replied, “What God wants you to do is to trust in the one he sent.”

³⁰ “What miracle are you going to perform for us to see so we can trust you? What are you able to do?” they asked.

³¹ “Our forefathers ate manna in the desert in fulfillment of the Scripture that says, ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”

³² “I tell you the truth, it wasn't Moses who gave you bread from heaven,” Jesus replied. “It's my Father who gives you the true bread of heaven.

³³ For the bread of God is the one who comes from heaven and gives life to the world.”

³⁴ “Lord, please give us this kind of bread all the time!” they said.

³⁵ “I am the bread of life,” Jesus replied. “Anyone who comes to me will never be hungry again, and anyone who trusts in me will never be thirsty again.

³⁶ But as I explained to you before, you have seen me, but you still don't trust me.

³⁷ All those the Father gives me will come to me, and I won't reject any of them.

³⁸ For I came down from heaven not to do what I want, but to do what the one who sent me wants.

³⁹ What he wants is for me not to lose anyone he has given to me, but for me to raise them up at the last day.

⁴⁰ What my Father wants is for everyone who sees the Son and trusts in him to have eternal life, and for me to raise them up at the last day.”

⁴¹ Then the Jews began to grumble about him because he had said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.”

⁴² They said, “Isn't this Jesus, the son of Joseph? We know his father and his mother. So how can he now tell us, ‘I came down from heaven’?”

⁴³ “Stop grumbling to each other,” Jesus said.

⁴⁴ “No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me attracts them, and I will raise them up at the last day.

⁴⁵ As is written in Scripture by the prophets, ‘Everyone will be taught by God.’ Everyone who listens to and learns from the Father comes to me.

⁴⁶ Not that anyone has seen God, except he who is from God; he has seen the Father.

⁴⁷ I tell you the truth: anyone who trusts in him has eternal life.

⁴⁸ I am the bread of life.

⁴⁹ Your forefathers ate manna in the desert but they still died.

⁵⁰ But this is the bread that comes down from heaven, and anyone who eats it won't ever die.

⁵¹ I am the life-giving bread from heaven, and anyone who eats this bread will live forever. The bread is my flesh that I give so that the world may live.”

⁵² Then the Jews argued heatedly among themselves. “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” they asked.

⁵³ Jesus told them, “I tell you the truth, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you cannot truly live.

⁵⁴ Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day.

⁵⁵ For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

⁵⁶ Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood remain in me, and I remain in them.

⁵⁷ Just as the life-giving Father sent me and I live because of the Father, so anyone who feeds on me will live because of me.

⁵⁸ Now this is the bread that came down from heaven, not the kind your forefathers ate and still died. Anyone who eats this bread will live forever.”

⁵⁹ Jesus explained this while he was teaching in a synagogue at Capernaum.

⁶⁰ Many of his disciples when they heard it said, “This is hard to accept! Who can follow it?”

⁶¹ Jesus saw that his disciples were complaining about this, so he asked them, “Are you offended by this?

⁶² Then what if you were to see the Son ascend to where he was before?

⁶³ The Spirit gives life; the physical body doesn't do anything. The words I've told you are spirit and life!

⁶⁴ Yet there are some of you who don't trust me.” (Jesus had known from the very beginning who didn't trust him, and who would betray him.)

⁶⁵ Jesus added, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me unless it is made possible by the Father.”

⁶⁶ From this time on many of Jesus' disciples gave up and no longer followed him.

¹² And when they were satisfied, he said vnto his disciples, Gather vp the broken meat which remaineth, that nothing be lost.

¹³ Then they gathered it together, and filled twelue baskets with the broken meat of the fiue barly loaues, which remained vnto them that had eaten.

¹⁴ Then the men, when they had seene the miracle that Iesus did, saide, This is of a trueth that Prophet that should come into the world.

¹⁵ When Iesus therfore perceiued that they would come, and take him to make him a King, hee departed againe into a mountaine himselfe alone.

¹⁶ When euen was nowe come, his disciples went downe vnto the sea,

¹⁷ And entred into a shippe, and went ouer the sea, towardes Capernaum: and nowe it was darke, and Iesus was not come to them.

¹⁸ And the Sea arose with a great winde that blewe.

¹⁹ And when they had rowed about fiue and twentie, or thirtie furlongs, they sawe Iesus walking on the sea, and drawing neere vnto the ship: so they were afraide.

²⁰ But he said vnto them, It is I: be not afraid.

²¹ Then willingly they receiued him into the ship, and the ship was by and by at the lande, whither they went.

²² The day following, the people which stoode on the other side of the sea, saw that there was none other ship there, saue that one, whereinto his disciples were entred, and that Iesus went not with his disciples in the ship, but that his disciples were gone alone,

²³ And that there came other ships from Tiberias neere vnto the place where they ate the bread, after the Lord had giuen thankes.

²⁴ Nowe when the people sawe that Iesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also tooke shipping, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Iesus.

²⁵ And when they had founde him on the other side of the sea, they sayde vnto him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?

²⁶ Iesus answered them; and sayde, Verely, verely I say vnto you, ye seeke me not because ye sawe the miracles, but because yee ate of ye loaues, and were filled.

²⁷ Labour not for ye meate which perisheth, but for the meate that endureth vnto euerlasting life, which the Sonne of man shall giue vnto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

²⁸ Then sayde they vnto him, What shall we doe, that we might worke the workes of God?

²⁹ Iesus answered, and sayde vnto them, This is the woorke of God, that yee beleeue in him, whome he hath sent.

³⁰ They sayde therefore vnto him, What signe shewest thou then, that we may see it, and beleeue thee? what doest thou woorke?

³¹ Our fathers did eate Manna in the desart, as it is written, Hee gaue them bread from heauen to eate.

³² Then Iesus said vnto them, Verely, verely I say vnto you, Moses gaue you not that bread from heauen, but my Father giueth you that true bread from heauen.

³³ For the breade of God is hee which commeth downe from heauen, and giueth life vnto the world.

³⁴ Then they said vnto him, Lord, euermore giue vs this bread.

³⁵ And Iesus saide vnto them, I am that bread of life: he that commeth to me, shall not hunger, and he that beleeueth in me, shall neuer thirst.

³⁶ But I said vnto you, that ye also haue seene me, and beleeue not.

³⁷ All that the Father giueth me, shall come to mee: and him that commeth to me, I cast not away.

³⁸ For I came downe from heauen, not to do mine owne wil, but his wil which hath sent me.

³⁹ And this is the Fathers will which hath sent mee, that of all which hee hath giuen mee, I should lose nothing, but shoulde raise it vp againe at the last day.

⁴⁰ And this is the will of him that sent mee, that euery man which seeth the Sonne, and beleeueth in him, should haue euerlasting life: and I will raise him vp at the last day.

⁴¹ The Iewes then murmured at him because hee sayde, I am that bread, which is come downe from heauen.

⁴² And they said, Is not this Iesus that sonne of Ioseph, whose father and mother wee knowe? howe then sayth he, I came downe from heauen?

⁴³ Iesus then answered, and saide vnto them, Murmure not among your selues.

⁴⁴ No man can come to mee, except the Father, which hath sent mee, drawe him: and I will raise him vp at the last day.

⁴⁵ It is written in the Prophetes, And they shalbe al taught of God. Euery man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, commeth vnto me:

⁴⁶ Not that any man hath seene the Father, saue hee which is of God, hee hath seene the Father.

⁴⁷ Verely, verely I say vnto you, hee that beleeueth in me, hath euerlasting life.

⁴⁸ I am that bread of life.

⁴⁹ Your fathers did eate Manna in the wildernesse, and are dead.

⁵⁰ This is that breade, which commeth downe from heauen, that hee which eateth of it, shoulde not die.

⁵¹ I am that liuing breade, which came downe from heauen: if any man eate of this breade, hee shall liue for euer: and the bread that I will giue, is my flesh, which I will giue for the life of the world.

⁵² Then the Iewes stroue among themselues, saying, Howe can this man giue vs his flesh to eate?

⁵³ Then Iesus saide vnto them, Verely, verely I say vnto you, Except yee eate the flesh of the Sonne of man, and drinke his blood, yee haue no life in you.

⁶³ It is the spirite that quickeneth: the flesh profiteth nothing: the woordes that I speake vnto you, are spirite and life.

⁶⁴ But there are some of you that beleeue not: for Iesus knewe from the beginning, which they were that beleeued not, and who shoulde betray him.

⁶⁵ And hee saide, Therefore saide I vnto you, that no man can come vnto mee, except it be giuen vnto him of my Father.

⁶⁶ From that time, many of his disciples went backe, and walked no more with him.

¹⁵ When Jesus therefore perceived that they would come and take him by force, to make him a king, he departed again into a mountain himself alone.

¹⁶ And when even was now come, his disciples went down unto the sea,

¹⁷ and entered into a ship, and went over the sea towards Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus was not come to them.

¹⁸ And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.

¹⁹ So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh unto the ship: and they were afraid.

²⁰ But he saith unto them, It is I; be not afraid.

¹⁹ When therefore they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty furlongs, they saw Jesus walking on the lake, and drawing near the boat; and they were afraid.

²⁰ But he saith to them, It is I, be not afraid.

²¹ Then they were willing to receive him into the boat; and immediately the boat was at the land whither they were going.

²² The day following, the multitude which stood on the other side of the lake having seen that there was no other boat there but one, and that Jesus did not go with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples went away alone,

²³ (but there came other boats from Tiberias near the place where they ate the bread, when the Lord had given thanks;)

²⁴ when therefore the multitude saw that Jesus was not there nor his disciples, they went on board the boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

²⁵ And having found him on the other side of the lake, they said to him, Rabbi, when didst thou come hither?

²⁶ Jesus answered them and said, Truly, truly do I say to you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw signs, but because ye ate of the loaves, and were filled.

²⁷ Labor not for the food that perisheth, but for the food that endureth to everlasting life, which the Son of man giveth to you; for on him hath the Father set his seal, even God.

²⁸ Then they said to him, What are we to do, that we may work the works of God?

¹⁵ But Jesus, having discovered that they were intending to come and carry him off to make him king, went again up the hill, quite alone.

¹⁶ When evening fell, his disciples went down to the sea,

¹⁷ and, getting into a boat, began to cross to Capernaum. By this time darkness had set in, and Jesus had not yet come back to them;

¹⁸ the sea, too, was getting rough, for a strong wind was blowing.

¹⁹ When they had rowed three or four miles, they caught sight of him walking on the water and approaching the boat, and they were frightened.

²⁰ But Jesus said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid!”

²¹ And after this they were glad to take him into the boat; and the boat at once arrived off the shore, for which they had been making.

²² The people who remained on the further side of the sea had seen that only one boat had been there, and that Jesus had not gone into it with his disciples, but that they had left without him.

²³ Some boats, however, had come from Tiberias, from near the spot where they had eaten the bread after the Master had said the thanksgiving.

²⁴ So, on the next day, when the people saw that Jesus was not there, or his disciples either, they themselves got into the boats, and went to Capernaum to look for him.

²⁵ And, when they found him on the other side of the sea, they said, “When did you get here, Rabbi?”

²⁶ “In truth I tell you,” answered Jesus, “it is not because of the signs which you saw that you are looking for me, but because you had the bread to eat and were satisfied.

²⁷ Work, not for the food that perishes, but for the food that lasts for eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you; for on him the Father — God himself — has set the seal of his approval.”

²⁸ “How,” they asked, “are we to do the work that God wants us to do?”

²⁹ “The work that God wants you to do,” answered Jesus, “is to believe in him whom God sent as his messenger.”

³⁰ “What sign, then,” they asked, “are you giving, which we may see, and so believe you? What is the work that you are doing?

³¹ Our ancestors had the manna to eat in the desert; as scripture says — ‘He gave them bread from heaven to eat.’”

³² “In truth I tell you,” replied Jesus, “Moses did not give you the bread from heaven, but my Father does give you the true bread from heaven;

³³ for the bread that God gives is that which comes down from heaven, and gives life to the world.”

³⁴ “Master,” they exclaimed, “give us that bread always!”

³⁵ “I am the life-giving bread,” Jesus said to them; “whoever comes to me will never be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never thirst again.

³⁶ But, as I have said already, you have seen me, and yet you do not believe in me.

³⁷ All those whom the Father gives me will come to me; and no one who comes to me will I ever turn away.

³⁸ For I have come down from heaven, to do, not my own will, but the will of him who sent me;

³⁹ and his will is this — that I should not lose one of all those whom he has given me, but should raise them up at the Last day.

⁴⁰ For it is the will of my Father that everyone who sees the Son, and believes in him, should have immortal life; and I myself will raise him up at the Last day.”

⁴¹ The people began murmuring against Jesus for saying — ‘I am the bread which came down from heaven.’

⁴² “Is not this Jesus, Joseph's son,” they asked, “whose father and mother we know? How is it that he now says that he has come down from heaven?”

⁴³ “Do not murmur amongst yourselves,” said Jesus in reply.

⁴⁴ “No one can come to me, unless the Father who sent me draws him to me; and I will raise him up at the Last day.

⁴⁵ It is said in the prophets — ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who is taught by the Father and learns from him comes to me.

⁴⁶ Not that anyone has seen the Father, except him who is from God — he has seen the Father.

⁴⁷ In truth I tell you, the person who believes in me has eternal life.

⁴⁸ I am the life-giving bread.

⁴⁹ Your ancestors ate the manna in the desert, and yet died.

⁵⁰ The bread that comes down from heaven is such that whoever eats of it will never die.

⁵¹ I am the living bread that has come down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, they will live for ever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.”

⁵² They began disputing with one another, “How is it possible for this man to give us his flesh to eat?”

⁵³ “In truth I tell you,” answered Jesus, “unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink his blood, you have not life within you.

⁵⁴ Everyone who takes my flesh for their food, and drinks my blood, has eternal life; and I will raise them up at the Last day.

⁵⁵ For my flesh is true food, and my blood true drink.

⁵⁶ Everyone who takes my flesh for their food, and drinks my blood, remains united to me, and I to them.

⁵⁷ As the living Father sent me as his messenger, and as I live because the Father lives, so the person who takes me for their food will live because I live.

⁵⁸ That is the bread which has come down from heaven — not such as your ancestors ate, and yet died; the person who takes this bread for their food will live for ever.”

⁵⁹ All this Jesus said in a synagogue, when he was teaching in Capernaum.

⁶⁰ On hearing it, many of his disciples said, “This is harsh doctrine! Who can bear to listen to it?”

⁶¹ But Jesus, aware that his disciples were murmuring about it, said to them,

⁶² “Is this a hindrance to you? What, then, if you should see the Son of Man ascending where he was before?

⁶³ It is the Spirit that gives life; human strength achieves nothing. In the teaching that I have been giving you there is Spirit and there is life.

⁶⁴ Yet there are some of you who do not believe in me.” For Jesus knew from the first who they were that did not believe in him, and who it was that would betray him;

⁶⁵ and he added, “This is why I told you that no one can come to me, unless enabled by the Father.”

⁶⁶ After this many of his disciples drew back, and did not go about with him any longer.

¹² When they were satisfied, Jesus said to his disciples, “Collect the broken pieces that are left, so that nothing may be wasted.”

¹³ The disciples did so, and filled twelve baskets with the pieces of the five barley loaves, which were left after all had eaten.

¹⁴ When the people saw the signs which Jesus gave, they said, “This is certainly the prophet who was to come into the world.”

¹⁵ But Jesus, having discovered that they were intending to come and carry him off to make him king, went again up the hill, quite alone.

¹⁶ When evening fell, his disciples went down to the sea,

¹⁷ and, getting into a boat, began to cross to Capernaum. By this time darkness had set in, and Jesus had not yet come back to them;

¹⁸ the sea, too, was getting rough, for a strong wind was blowing.

¹⁹ When they had rowed three or four miles, they caught sight of him walking on the water and approaching the boat, and they were frightened.

²⁰ But Jesus said to them, “It is I; do not be afraid!”

¹⁶ When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,

¹⁷ and they entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum Village-Comfort, Village-Compassion. It was now dark, and Yeshua Salvation had not come to them.

¹⁸ The sea was tossed by a great wind blowing.

¹⁹ When therefore they had rowed between twenty-five stadia 3.3 mi; 4.6 km to thirty stadia 4 mi; 5.6 km distance, they saw Yeshua Salvation walking on the sea, and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid.

²⁰ But he said to them, “Ena Na I AM (the Living God), don’t be afraid.”

²¹ They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.

²² On the next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except the one in which his disciples had embarked, and that Yeshua Salvation hadn’t entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples had gone away alone.

²³ However boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.

²⁴ When the multitude therefore saw that Yeshua Salvation was not there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats, and came to Capernaum Village-Comfort, Village-Compassion, seeking Yeshua Salvation.

²⁵ When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, “Rabbi ·Teacher·, when did you come here?”

²⁶ Yeshua Salvation answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves, and were filled.

²⁷ Don’t work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Abba Father has sealed him.”

²⁸ They said therefore to him, “What must we do, that we may work the works of God?”

²⁹ Yeshua Salvation answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”

³⁰ They said therefore to him, “What then do you do for a sign, that we may see, and believe you? What work do you do?

³¹ Our fathers ate the manna ·what is it· in the wilderness. As it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’”

³² Yeshua Salvation therefore said to them, “Most certainly, I tell you, it was not Moses Drawn out who gave you the manna ·what is it· out of heaven, but 'Avi ·my Father· gives you the true manna ·what is it· out of heaven.

³³ For the manna of God is that which comes down out of heaven, and gives life to the world.”

³⁴ They said therefore to him, “Lord, always give us this manna.”

³⁵ Yeshua Salvation said to them, “Ena Na I AM (the Living God), the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

³⁶ But I told you that you have seen me, and yet you don’t believe.

³⁷ All those whom Abba ·Father· gives me will come to me. He who comes to me I will in no way throw out.

³⁸ For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.

³⁹ This is the will of 'Avi ·my Father· who sent me, that of all he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise him up at the last day.

⁴¹ The Jews Praisers therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, “I am the bread which came down out of heaven.”

⁴² They said, “Is not this Yeshua Salvation, the son of Joseph May he add, whose father and mother we know? How then does he say, ‘I have come down out of heaven?’”

⁴³ Therefore Yeshua Salvation answered them, “Don’t murmur among yourselves.

⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless Abba Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up in the last day.

⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, ‘They will all be taught by Adonai .’ Therefore everyone who hears from haAbba ·the Father·, and has learned, comes to me.

⁴⁶ Not that anyone has seen Abba Father, except he who is from God. He has seen Abba Father.

⁴⁷ Most certainly, I tell you, he who believes in me has eternal life.

⁶⁵ He said, “For this cause have I said to you that no one can come to me, unless it is given to him by 'Avi ·my Father·.”

¹⁵ When Iesus perceaved that they wolde come and take him vp to make him kinge he departed agayne into a mountayne him silfe a lone.

¹⁶ And when even was come his disciples wet vnto the see

¹⁷ and entred into a shyppe and went over the see vnto Capernaum. And anone it was darcke and Iesus was not come to them.

¹⁸ And the see arose with a greate winde that blew.

¹⁹ And when they had rowe aboute a .xxv. or a xxx. furlonges they sawe Iesus walke on the see and drawe nye vnto the shyp and they were afrayed.

²⁰ And he sayde vnto them: It is I be not a frayde.

²¹ Then wolde they have receaved him into the shyp and the ship was by and by at the londe whyther they went.

²² The daye folowynge the people which stode on the other syde of the see sawe that ther was none other shyp theare save that one wher in his disciples were entred and that Iesus went not in with his disciples into the ship: but that his disciples were gone awaye alone.

²³ How be it, ther came other shippes from Tiberias nye vnto the place where they ate breed when the Lorde had blessed.

²⁴ Then when the people sawe that Iesus was not there nether his disciples they also toke shippinge and came to Caparnaum sekinge for Iesus.

²⁵ And when they had founde him on the other syde of the see they sayd vnto him: Rabbi when camest thou hidder?

²⁶ Iesus answered them and sayde: verely verely I saye vnto you: ye seke me not because ye sawe the myracles: but because ye ate of the loves and were filled.

²⁷ Laboure not for the meate which perissheth but for the meate that endureth vnto everlastynge lyfe whiche meate the sonne of man shall geve vnto you. For him hath god the father sealed.

²⁸ Then sayd they vnto him: what shall we do that we myght worke the workes of God?

²⁹ Iesus answered and sayde vnto them. This is the worke of God that ye beleve on him who he hath sent.

³⁰ They sayde vnto him: what signe shewest thou then that we maye se and beleve the? What doest thou worke?

³¹ Oure fathers dyd eate Manna in the desert as that is writte: He gave them breed from heaven to eate.

³² Iesus sayde vnto the: verely verely I saye vnto you: Moses gave you breed from heaven: but my father geveth you the true breed from heaven.

³³ For the breed of God is he which cometh doune from heaven and geveth lyfe vnto the worlde.

³⁴ Then sayde they vnto him: Lorde ever moore geve vs this breed.

³⁵ And Iesus sayde vnto them: I am that breed of life. He that cometh to me shall not honger: and he that beleveth on me shall never thurst.

³⁶ But I sayed vnto you: that ye have sene me and yet beleve not.

³⁷ All that the father geveth me shall come to me: and him that cometh to me I cast not awaye.

³⁸ For I came doune from heaven: not to do myne awne will but his will which hath sent me.

³⁹ And this is the fathers will which hath sent me that of all which he hath geven me I shuld loose no thinge: but shuld rayse it vp agayne at the last daye.

⁴⁰ And this is the wyll of him that sent me: that every man which seith the sonne and beleveth on him have everlastinge lyfe. And I will rayse him vp at the last daye.

⁴¹ The Iewes then murmured at him because he sayde: I am that breed which is come doune from heaven.

⁴² And they sayde: Is not this Iesus the sonne of Ioseph whose father and mother we knowe? How ys that then that he sayeth I came doune from heaven?

⁴³ Iesus answered and sayde vnto them. Murmur not betwene youre selves.

⁴⁴ No man can come to me except the father which hath sent me, drawe him. And I will rayse him vp at the last daye.

⁴⁵ It is written in the Prophetes, that they shall all be taught of God. Every man therfore that hath hearde and hath learned of the father commeth vnto me.

⁴⁶ Not that eny man hath sene the father save he which is of God: the same hath sene the father.

⁴⁷ Verely verely I saye vnto you he that beleveth on me hath everlastinge lyfe.

⁴⁸ I am that breed of lyfe.

⁴⁹ Youre fathers dyd eate Mana in the wildernes and are deed.

⁵⁰ This is that breed which cometh from heaven that he which eateth of it shuld also not dye.

⁵¹ I am that lyvinge breed which came doune from heaven. Yf eny man eate of this breed he shall live forever. And the breed that I will geve is my flesshe which I will geve for the lyfe of the worlde

⁵³ Then Iesus sayde vnto them: Verely, verely I saye vnto you except ye eate the flesshe of the sonne of man and drinke his bloude ye shall not have lyfe in you.

⁵⁴ Whosoever eateth my flesshe and drinketh my bloude hath eternall lyfe: and I will rayse him vp at the last daye.

⁵⁵ For my flesshe is meate in dede: and my bloude is drynke in dede.

⁵⁶ He that eateth my flesshe and drynketh my bloude dwelleth in me and I in him.

⁵⁷ As the lyvinge father hath sent me even so lyve I by my father: and he that eateth me shall live by me.

⁵⁸ This is the breed which cam from heaven: not as youre fathers have eaten Manna and are deed. He that eateth of this breed shall live ever.

⁵⁹ These thinges sayd he in the synagoge as he taught in Capernaum.

⁶⁰ Many of his disciples when they had herde this sayde: this is an herde sayinge: who can abyde the hearinge of it?

⁶¹ Iesus knew in him selfe that his disciples murmured at it and sayde vnto them: Doth this offende you?

⁶² What and yf ye shall se the sonne of man ascede vp where he was before?

⁶³ It is the sprete that quyckeneth the flesshe proffeteth nothinge. The wordes that I speake vnto you are sprete and lyfe.

⁶⁴ But ther are some of you that beleve not. For Iesus knewe from the begynnynge which they were that beleved not and who shuld betraye him.

²² The next day, the crowd that had been standing on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there except the one, and that Jesus had not entered it with his disciples but that his disciples had gone away alone.

²⁴ When the crowd discovered that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they themselves got into the boats and went to Capernaum seeking Jesus.

²⁵ After they found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?”

²⁶ Jesus replied to them, saying, “Truly, truly, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate some of the bread loaves and were filled.

²⁷ Do not work for the food that perishes, but work for the food that endures to eternal life which the Son of Man will give you, for God the Father has set his seal on him.”

²⁸ Then they said to him, “What must we do, so that we may do the works of God?”

²⁹ Jesus replied and said to them, “This is the work of God: That you believe in the one whom he has sent.”

³⁰ So they said to him, “What sign then will you do, so that we may see and believe you? What will you do?

³¹ Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, as it is written, 'He gave them bread from heaven to eat.'”

³² Then Jesus replied to them, “Truly, truly, it was not Moses who gave you the bread out of heaven, but it is my Father who is giving you the true bread from heaven.

³³ For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.”

³⁴ So they said to him, “Sir, give us this bread always.”

³⁵ Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; he who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

³⁶ But I told you that indeed you have seen me, and you do not believe.

³⁷ Everyone whom the Father gives me will come to me, and he who comes to me I will certainly not throw out.

³⁸ For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.

³⁹ This is the will of him who sent me, that I would lose not one of all those whom he has given me, but will raise them up on the last day.

⁴⁰ For this is the will of my Father, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him would have eternal life and I will raise him up on the last day.”

⁴¹ Then the Jews grumbled about him because he had said, “I am the bread that has come down from heaven.”

⁴² They said, “Is not this Jesus son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then does he now say, 'I have come down from heaven'?”

⁴³ Jesus replied and said to them, “Stop grumbling among yourselves.

⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him, and I will raise him up on the last day.

⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, 'Everyone will be taught by God.' Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me.

⁴⁶ Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is from God—he has seen the Father.

⁴⁷ Truly, truly, he who believes has eternal life.

⁴⁸ I am the bread of life.

⁵⁰ This is the bread which comes down from heaven, so that a person may eat some of it and not die.

⁵¹ I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats some of this bread, he will live forever. The bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”

⁵² The Jews became angry among themselves and began to argue, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”

⁵³ Then Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you will not have life in yourselves.

⁵⁴ Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has everlasting life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

⁵⁵ For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink.

⁵⁶ He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in him.

⁵⁷ As the living Father sent me, and as I live because of the Father, so he who eats me, he will also live because of me.

⁵⁸ This is the bread that has come down from heaven, not as the fathers ate and died. He who eats this bread will live forever.”

⁵⁹ But Jesus said these things in the synagogue while he was teaching in Capernaum.

⁶⁰ Then many of his disciples who heard this said, “This is a difficult teaching; who can accept it?”

⁶¹ Jesus, because he knew in himself that his disciples were grumbling at this, said to them, “Does this offend you?

⁶² Then what if you should see the Son of Man going up to where he was before?

⁶³ It is the Spirit who makes alive; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit, and they are life.

⁶⁴ Yet there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who were the ones that would not believe and who it was who would betray him.

⁶⁵ He said, “It is because of this that I said to you that no one can come to me unless it is granted to him by the Father.”

⁶⁶ Because of this, many of his disciples went away and no longer walked with him.

¹² When they were filled, he said to his disciples, “Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost.”

¹³ So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.

¹⁴ When therefore the people saw the sign which Jesus did, they said, “This is truly the prophet who comes into the world.”

¹⁵ Jesus therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

¹⁶ When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea.

¹⁷ They entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them.

¹⁸ The sea was tossed by a great wind blowing.

¹⁹ When therefore they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they saw Jesus walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid.

²⁰ But he said to them, “It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

²¹ They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.

²² On the next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except the one in which his disciples had embarked, and that Jesus hadn’t entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples had gone away alone.

²³ However, boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.

⁶⁴ But there are some of you who don’t believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who didn’t believe, and who it was who would betray him.

¹⁷ And entered into a boat, and went over the sea towards Capernaum. And it was now dark, and Jesus had not come to them.

¹⁸ And the sea arose by reason of a great wind that blew.

¹⁹ So when they had rowed about five and twenty or thirty furlongs, they see Jesus walking on the sea, and drawing nigh to the boat: and they were afraid.

²⁰ But he saith to them, It is I; be not afraid.

²¹ Then they willingly received him into the boat: and immediately the boat was at the land whither they were going.

²² The day following, when the people who stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, save that one into which his disciples had entered, and that Jesus went not with his disciples into the boat, but that his disciples had gone away alone;

²³ (Yet there came other boats from Tiberias nigh to the place where they ate bread, after the Lord had given thanks:)

²⁴ When the people therefore saw that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they also took boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking for Jesus.

²⁵ And when they had found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, when camest thou hither?

²⁶ Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye ate of the loaves, and were satisfied.

²⁷ Labor not for the food which perisheth, but for that food which endureth to everlasting life, which the Son of man will give to you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

²⁸ Then said they to him, What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?

⁵⁴ He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.

⁵⁵ For my flesh is food indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.

⁵⁶ He who eats my flesh and drinks my blood lives in me, and I in him.

⁵⁷ As the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on me will also live because of me.

⁵⁸ This is the bread which came down out of heaven—not as our fathers ate the manna and died. He who eats this bread will live forever.”

⁵⁹ He said these things in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum.

⁶⁰ Therefore many of his disciples, when they heard this, said, “This is a hard saying! Who can listen to it?”

⁶¹ But Yeshua knowing in himself that his disciples murmured at this, said to them, “Does this cause you to stumble?

⁶² Then what if you would see the Son of Man ascending to where he was before?

⁶³ It is the spirit who gives life. The flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and are life.

⁶⁴ But there are some of you who don’t believe.” For Yeshua knew from the beginning who they were who didn’t believe, and who it was who would betray him.

⁶⁵ He said, “For this cause I have said to you that no one can come to me, unless it is given to him by my Father.”

⁶⁶ At this, many of his disciples went back and walked no more with him.

¹² When they were filled, he said to his disciples, “Gather up the broken pieces which are left over, that nothing be lost.”

¹³ So they gathered them up, and filled twelve baskets with broken pieces from the five barley loaves, which were left over by those who had eaten.

¹⁴ When therefore the people saw the sign which Yeshua did, they said, “This is truly the Prophet who comes into the world.”

¹⁵ Yeshua therefore, perceiving that they were about to come and take him by force to make him king, withdrew again to the mountain by himself.

¹⁶ When evening came, his disciples went down to the sea.

¹⁷ They entered into the boat, and were going over the sea to Capernaum. It was now dark, and Yeshua had not come to them.

¹⁸ The sea was tossed by a great wind blowing.

¹⁹ When therefore they had rowed about twenty-five or thirty stadia, they saw Yeshua walking on the sea and drawing near to the boat; and they were afraid.

²⁰ But he said to them, “It is I. Don’t be afraid.”

²¹ They were willing therefore to receive him into the boat. Immediately the boat was at the land where they were going.

²² On the next day, the multitude that stood on the other side of the sea saw that there was no other boat there, except the one in which his disciples had embarked, and that Yeshua hadn’t entered with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples had gone away alone.

²³ However, boats from Tiberias came near to the place where they ate the bread after the Lord had given thanks.

²⁴ When the multitude therefore saw that Yeshua wasn’t there, nor his disciples, they themselves got into the boats and came to Capernaum, seeking Yeshua.

²⁵ When they found him on the other side of the sea, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you come here?”

²⁶ Yeshua answered them, “Most certainly I tell you, you seek me, not because you saw signs, but because you ate of the loaves and were filled.

²⁷ Don’t work for the food which perishes, but for the food which remains to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give to you. For God the Father has sealed him.”

²⁸ They said therefore to him, “What must we do, that we may work the works of God?”

²⁹ Yeshua answered them, “This is the work of God, that you believe in him whom he has sent.”

³⁰ They said therefore to him, “What then do you do for a sign, that we may see and believe you? What work do you do?

³¹ Our fathers ate the manna in the wilderness. As it is written, ‘He gave them bread out of heaven to eat.’”

³² Yeshua therefore said to them, “Most certainly, I tell you, it wasn’t Moses who gave you the bread out of heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread out of heaven.

³³ For the bread of God is that which comes down out of heaven and gives life to the world.”

³⁴ They said therefore to him, “Lord, always give us this bread.”

³⁵ Yeshua said to them, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will not be hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.

³⁶ But I told you that you have seen me, and yet you don’t believe.

³⁷ All those whom the Father gives me will come to me. He who comes to me I will in no way throw out.

³⁸ For I have come down from heaven, not to do my own will, but the will of him who sent me.

³⁹ This is the will of my Father who sent me, that of all he has given to me I should lose nothing, but should raise him up at the last day.

⁴⁰ This is the will of the one who sent me, that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him should have eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.”

⁴¹ The Judeans therefore murmured concerning him, because he said, “I am the bread which came down out of heaven.”

⁴² They said, “Isn’t this Yeshua, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How then does he say, ‘I have come down out of heaven?’”

⁴³ Therefore Yeshua answered them, “Don’t murmur amongst yourselves.

⁴⁴ No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up in the last day.

⁴⁵ It is written in the Prophets, ‘They will all be taught by God.’ Therefore everyone who hears from the Father and has learnt, comes to me.

⁴⁶ Not that anyone has seen the Father, except he who is from God. He has seen the Father.

⁴⁷ Most certainly, I tell you, he who believes in me has eternal life.

⁴⁸ I am the bread of life.

¹⁷ And they went up into a boat, and they came over the sea into Capernaum. And darknesses were made then, and Jesus was not or had not come to them.

¹⁸ And for a great wind blew, the sea rose up.

¹⁹ Therefore when they had rowed as five and twenty furlongs or thirty, they saw Jesus walking on the sea, and to be nigh the boat; and they dreaded.

²⁰ And he said to them, I am; do not ye dread.

²¹ Therefore they would take him into the boat, and anon the boat was at the land, to which they went.

²² On the tother day, the people, that stood over the sea, saw, that there was none other boat there but that one, and that Jesus entered not with his disciples into the boat, but his disciples alone went or went alone.

²³ But other boats came from Tiberias beside the place, where they had eaten bread, and did thankings to God.

²⁴ Therefore when the people had seen, that Jesus was not there, neither his disciples, they went up into boats, and came to Capernaum, seeking Jesus.

²⁵ And when they had found him over the sea, they said to him, Rabbi, how camest thou hither?

²⁶ Jesus answered to them, and said, Truly, truly, I say to you ye seek me, not for ye saw the miracles, but for ye ate of the loaves, and were ful filled.

²⁷ Work ye not meat that perisheth, but that that dwelleth into everlasting life, which meat man’s Son shall give to you; for God the Father hath marked him.

²⁸ Therefore they said to him, What shall we do, that we work the works of God?

²⁹ Jesus answered, and said to them, This is the work of God, that ye believe to him, whom he sent.

³⁰ Therefore they said to him, What token then doest thou, that we see, and believe to thee? what workest thou?

³¹ Our fathers ate manna in desert, as it is written, He gave to them bread from heaven to eat.

³² Therefore Jesus saith to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Moses gave you not bread from heaven, but my Father giveth you very bread from heaven;

³³ for it is very bread that cometh down from heaven, and giveth life to the world.

³⁴ Therefore they said to him, Lord, evermore give to us this bread.

³⁵ And Jesus said to them, I am bread of life; he that cometh to me, shall not hunger; and he that believeth in me, shall never thirst.

³⁶ But I said to you, that ye have seen me, and ye believe not.

³⁷ All thing that the Father giveth to me, shall come to me; and I shall not cast him out, that cometh to me.

³⁸ For I came down from heaven, not that I do my will, but the will of him that sent me.

³⁹ And this is the will of the Father that sent me, that all thing that the Father gave to me, I lose not or nought of it, but again-raise it in the last day.

⁴⁰ And this is the will of my Father that sent me, that each man that seeth the Son, and believeth in him, have everlasting life; and I shall again-raise him in the last day.

⁴¹ Therefore the Jews grutched of him, for he had said, I am bread that came down from heaven.

⁴² And they said, Whether this is not Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have known. How then saith he this, That I came down from heaven?

⁴³ Therefore Jesus answered, and said to them, Do not ye grutch together.

⁴⁴ No man may come to me, but if or no but the Father that sent me, draw him; and I shall again-raise him in the last day.

⁴⁵ It is written in the prophets, And all men shall be able to be taught of God. Each man that hath heard of the Father, and hath learned, cometh to me.

⁴⁶ Not for any man hath seen the Father, but this that is of God, hath seen the Father.

¹³ And so thei gadriden, and filliden twelue cofyns of relif of the fyue barli looues and twei fischis, that lefte to hem that hadden etun.

¹⁴ Therfor tho men, whanne thei hadden seyn the signe that he hadde don, seiden, For this is verili the profete, that is to come in to the world.

¹⁵ And whanne Jhesus hadde knowun, that thei weren to come to take hym, and make hym kyng, he fleiy `aloone eft in to an hille.

¹⁶ And whanne euentid was comun, his disciplis wenten doun to the see.

¹⁷ And thei wenten vp in to a boot, and thei camen ouer the see in to Cafarnaum. And derknessis weren maad thanne, and Jhesus was not come to hem.

¹⁸ And for a greet wynde blew, the see roos vp.

¹⁹ Therfor whanne thei hadden rowid as fyue and twenti furlongis or thretti, thei seen Jhesus walkynge on the see, and to be neiy the boot; and thei dredden.

²⁰ And he seide to hem, Y am; nyle ye drede.

²¹ Therfor thei wolden take hym in to the boot, and anoon the boot was at the loond, to which thei wenten.

²² On `the tother dai the puple, that stood ouer the see, say, that ther was noon other boot there but oon, and that Jhesu entride not with hise disciplis in to the boot, but hise disciplis aloone wenten.

²³ But othere bootis camen fro Tiberias bisidis the place, where thei hadden eetun breed, and diden thankyngis to God.

²⁴ Therfor whanne the puple hadde seyn, that Jhesu was not there, nether hise disciplis, thei wenten vp in to bootis, and camen to Cafarnaum, sekynge Jhesu.

²⁵ And whanne thei hadden foundun hym ouer the see, thei seiden to hym, Rabi, hou come thou hidur?

²⁶ Jhesus answerde to hem, and seide, Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, ye seken me, not for ye sayn the myraclis, but for ye eten of looues, and weren fillid.

²⁷ Worche ye not mete that perischith, but that dwellith in to euerlastynge lijf, which mete mannys sone schal yyue to you; for God the fadir hath markid hym.

²⁸ Therfor thei seiden to hym, What schulen we do, that we worche the werkis of God?

²⁹ Jhesus answerde, and seide to hem, This is the werk of God, that ye bileue to hym, whom he sente.

³⁰ Therfor thei seiden to hym, What tokene thanne doist thou, that we seen, and bileue to thee? what worchist thou?

³¹ Oure fadris eeten manna in desert, as it is writun, He yaf to hem breed fro heuene to ete.

³² Therfor Jhesus seith to hem, Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, Moyses yaf you not breed fro heuene, but my fadir yyueth you veri breed fro heuene;

³³ for it is very breed that cometh doun fro heuene, and yyueth lijf to the world.

³⁴ Therfor thei seiden to hym, Lord, euere yyue vs this breed.

³⁵ And Jhesus seide to hem, Y am breed of lijf; he that cometh to me, schal not hungur; he that bileueth in me, schal neuere thirste.

³⁶ But Y seid to you, that ye han seyn me, and ye bileueden not.

³⁷ Al thing, that the fadir yyueth to me, schal come to me; and Y schal not caste hym out, that cometh to me.

³⁸ For Y cam doun fro heuene, not that Y do my wille, but the wille of hym that sente me.

³⁹ And this is the wille of the fadir that sente me, that al thing that the fadir yaf me, Y leese not of it, but ayen reise it in the laste dai.

⁴⁰ And this is the wille of my fadir that sente me, that ech man that seeth the sone, and bileueth in hym, haue euerlastynge lijf; and Y schal ayen reyse hym in the laste dai.

⁴¹ Therfor Jewis grutchiden of hym, for he hadde seid, Y am breed that cam doun fro heuene.

⁴² And thei seiden, Whether this is not Jhesus, the sone of Joseph, whos fadir and modir we han knowun. Hou thanne seith this, That Y cam doun fro heuene?

⁴³ Therfor Jhesus answerde, and seide to hem, Nyle ye grutche togidere.

⁴⁴ No man may come to me, but if the fadir that sente me, drawe hym; and Y schal ayen reise hym in the laste dai. It is writun in prophetis,

⁴⁵ And alle men schulen be able for to be tauyt `of God. Ech man that herde of the fadir, and hath lerned, cometh to me.

⁴⁶ Not for ony man hath sey the fadir, but this that is of God, hath sey the fadir.

⁴⁷ Sotheli, sotheli, Y seie to you, he that bileueth in me, hath euerlastynge lijf.

⁴⁸ Y am breed of lijf.

⁴⁹ Youre fadris eeten manna in desert, and ben deed.

⁵⁰ This is breed comynge doun fro heuene, that if ony man ete therof, he die not.

⁵¹ Y am lyuynge breed, that cam doun fro heuene.

⁵² If ony man ete of this breed, he schal lyue withouten ende. And the breed that Y schal yyue, is my fleisch for the lijf of the world.

⁵³ Therfor the Jewis chidden togidere, and seiden, Hou may this yyue to vs his fleisch to ete?

⁵⁴ Therfor Jhesus seith to hem, Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, but ye eten the fleisch of mannus sone, and drenken his blood, ye schulen not haue lijf in you.

⁵⁵ He that etith my fleisch, and drynkith my blood, hath euerlastynge lijf, and Y schal ayen reise hym in the laste dai.

⁵⁶ For my fleisch is veri mete, and my blood is very drynk.

⁵⁷ He that etith my fleisch, and drynkith my blood, dwellith in me, and Y in hym.

⁵⁸ As my fadir lyuynge sente me, and Y lyue for the fadir, and he that etith me, he schal lyue for me.

⁵⁹ This is breed, that cam doun fro heuene. Not as youre fadris eten manna, and ben deed; he that etith this breed, schal lyue withouten ende.

⁶⁰ He seide these thingis in the synagoge, techynge in Cafarnaum.

⁶¹ Therfor many of hise disciplis herynge, seiden, This word is hard, who may here it?

⁶² But Jhesus witynge at hym silf, that hise disciplis grutchiden of this thing, seide to hem, This thing sclaundrith you?

⁶³ Therfor if ye seen mannus sone stiynge, where he was bifor?

⁶⁴ It is the spirit that quykeneth, the fleisch profitith no thing; the wordis that Y haue spokun to you, ben spirit and lijf.

⁶⁵ But ther ben summe of you that bileuen not. For Jhesus wiste fro the bigynnynge, which weren bileuynge, and who was to bitraye hym.

⁶⁶ And he seide, Therfor Y seide to you, that no man may come to me, but it were youun to hym of my fadir.

¹² And when they were filled, he saith to his disciples, 'Gather together the broken pieces that are over, that nothing may be lost;'

¹³ they gathered together, therefore, and filled twelve hand-baskets with broken pieces, from the five barley loaves that were over to those having eaten.

¹⁴ The men, then, having seen the sign that Jesus did, said — 'This is truly the Prophet, who is coming to the world;'

¹⁵ Jesus, therefore, having known that they are about to come, and to take him by force that they may make him king, retired again to the mountain himself alone.

¹⁶ And when evening came, his disciples went down to the sea,

¹⁷ and having entered into the boat, they were going over the sea to Capernaum, and darkness had already come, and Jesus had not come unto them,

¹⁸ the sea also — a great wind blowing — was being raised,

¹⁹ having pushed onwards, therefore, about twenty-five or thirty furlongs, they behold Jesus walking on the sea, and coming nigh to the boat, and they were afraid;

²⁰ and he saith to them, 'I am he, be not afraid;'

²¹ they were willing then to receive him into the boat, and immediately the boat came unto the land to which they were going.

²² On the morrow, the multitude that was standing on the other side of the sea, having seen that there was no other little boat there except one — that into which his disciples entered — and that Jesus went not in with his disciples into the little boat, but his disciples went away alone,

²³ (and other little boats came from Tiberias, nigh the place where they did eat the bread, the Lord having given thanks),

²⁴ when therefore the multitude saw that Jesus is not there, nor his disciples, they also themselves did enter into the boats, and came to Capernaum seeking Jesus;

²⁵ and having found him on the other side of the sea, they said to him, 'Rabbi, when hast thou come hither?'

²⁶ Jesus answered them and said, 'Verily, verily, I say to you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw signs, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were satisfied;

²⁷ work not for the food that is perishing, but for the food that is remaining to life age-during, which the Son of Man will give to you, for him did the Father seal — even God.'

²⁸ They said therefore unto him, 'What may we do that we may work the works of God?'

²⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, 'This is the work of God, that ye may believe in him whom He did send.'

³⁰ They said therefore to him, 'What sign, then, dost thou, that we may see and may believe thee? what dost thou work?

³¹ our fathers the manna did eat in the wilderness, according as it is having been written, Bread out of the heaven He gave them to eat.'

³² Jesus, therefore, said to them, 'Verily, verily, I say to you, Moses did not give you the bread out of the heaven; but my Father doth give you the true bread out of the heaven;

³³ for the bread of God is that which is coming down out of the heaven, and giving life to the world.'

³⁴ They said, therefore, unto him, 'Sir, always give us this bread.'

³⁵ And Jesus said to them, 'I am the bread of the life; he who is coming unto me may not hunger, and he who is believing in me may not thirst — at any time;

³⁶ but I said to you, that ye also have seen me, and ye believe not;

³⁷ all that the Father doth give to me will come unto me; and him who is coming unto me, I may in no wise cast without,

³⁸ because I have come down out of the heaven, not that I may do my will, but the will of Him who sent me.

³⁹ 'And this is the will of the Father who sent me, that all that He hath given to me I may not lose of it, but may raise it up in the last day;

⁴⁰ and this is the will of Him who sent me, that every one who is beholding the Son, and is believing in him, may have life age-during, and I will raise him up in the last day.'

⁴¹ The Jews, therefore, were murmuring at him, because he said, 'I am the bread that came down out of the heaven;'

⁴² and they said, 'Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we have known? how then saith this one — Out of the heaven I have come down?'

⁴³ Jesus answered, therefore, and said to them, 'Murmur not one with another;

⁴⁴ no one is able to come unto me, if the Father who sent me may not draw him, and I will raise him up in the last day;

⁴⁵ it is having been written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God; every one therefore who heard from the Father, and learned, cometh to me;

⁴⁶ not that any one hath seen the Father, except he who is from God, he hath seen the Father.

⁴⁷ 'Verily, verily, I say to you, He who is believing in me, hath life age-during;

⁴⁸ I am the bread of the life;

⁴⁹ your fathers did eat the manna in the wilderness, and they died;

⁵⁰ this is the bread that out of the heaven is coming down, that any one may eat of it, and not die.

⁵¹ 'I am the living bread that came down out of the heaven; if any one may eat of this bread he shall live — to the age; and the bread also that I will give is my flesh, that I will give for the life of the world.'

⁵² The Jews, therefore, were striving with one another, saying, 'How is this one able to give us his flesh to eat?'

⁵³ Jesus, therefore, said to them, 'Verily, verily, I say to you, If ye may not eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and may not drink his blood, ye have no life in yourselves;

⁵⁴ he who is eating my flesh, and is drinking my blood, hath life age-during, and I will raise him up in the last day;

⁵⁵ for my flesh truly is food, and my blood truly is drink;

⁵⁶ he who is eating my flesh, and is drinking my blood, doth remain in me, and I in him.

⁵⁷ 'According as the living Father sent me, and I live because of the Father, he also who is eating me, even that one shall live because of me;

⁵⁸ this is the bread that came down out of the heaven; not as your fathers did eat the manna, and died; he who is eating this bread shall live — to the age.'

⁵⁹ These things he said in a synagogue, teaching in Capernaum;

⁶⁰ many, therefore, of his disciples having heard, said, 'This word is hard; who is able to hear it?'

⁶¹ And Jesus having known in himself that his disciples are murmuring about this, said to them, 'Doth this stumble you?

⁶² if then ye may behold the Son of Man going up where he was before?

⁶³ the spirit it is that is giving life; the flesh doth not profit anything; the sayings that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life;

⁶⁴ but there are certain of you who do not believe;' for Jesus had known from the beginning who they are who are not believing, and who is he who will deliver him up,

⁶⁵ and he said, 'Because of this I have said to you — No one is able to come unto me, if it may not have been given him from my Father.'

⁶⁶ From this time many of his disciples went away backward, and were no more walking with him,
