John 5:7-17 in English

⁷ The sick man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

⁸ Jesus saith unto him, Arise, take up thy bed, and walk.

⁹ And straightway the man was made whole, and took up his bed and walked. Now it was the sabbath on that day.

¹⁰ So the Jews said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath, and it is not lawful for thee to take up thy bed.

¹¹ But he answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

¹² They asked him, Who is the man that said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?

¹³ But he that was healed knew not who it was; for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in the place.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing befall thee.

¹⁵ The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him whole.

¹⁶ And for this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh even until now, and I work.

⁷ The sick man answered, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I’m coming, another steps down before me.”

⁸ Jesus told him, “Stand up, pick up your mat, and walk.”

⁹ Immediately, the man was made well, took up his mat, and walked. That was on the Sabbath day.

¹⁰ Therefore the Jews were telling him who was cured, “It’s the Sabbath, and it isn’t legal for you to carry your mat.”

¹¹ He answered them, “He who made me well told me, ‘Take up your mat and walk.’”

¹² Then they asked him, “Who told you to ‘Take up your mat and walk’?”

¹³ The man who had been healed didn’t know who it was, because Jesus had disappeared into the crowd.

¹⁴ Later, Jesus found him in the temple and told him, “See, you have been made well! Don’t sin any more, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

¹⁵ The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

¹⁶ For this reason, the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.

¹⁷ Jesus answered them, “My Father is still working, so I am working, too.”

⁷ The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

⁸ Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

⁹ And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

¹⁰ The Jews therefore said unto him that was cured, It is the sabbath day: it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

¹¹ He answered them, He that made me whole, the same said unto me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

¹² Then asked they him, What man is that which said unto thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?

¹³ And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

¹⁵ The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.

¹⁶ And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

⁷ The paralyzed man replied to him, “ Yes, sir, I want to get well, but there is no one to help me get down into the pool when the water is stirred {stirs}. While I am trying to get to the pool, someone else always gets there before me.”

⁸ Jesus said to him, “Get up! Then pick up your mat and walk!”

⁹ The man immediately was healed. He picked up his mat and started walking! The day on which this happened was a Jewish day of rest.

¹⁰ So the Jewish leaders said to the man who had been healed, “Today is ◄the Sabbath/our rest day►, and in our Jewish laws it is written that people should not work on our ◄ Sabbath/rest day►, so you should not be carrying your mat!”

¹¹ The man replied to them, “The man who healed me, he himself said to me, ‘Pick up your mat and walk!’”

¹² They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick it up and walk!’?”

¹³ But since Jesus had disappeared in the crowd without telling the man his name, the man did not know who it was who had healed him.

¹⁴ Later, Jesus found the man in the Temple courtyard. He told the man his name, and said to him, “Listen! You are healed! So stop sinning! If you do not stop sinning, something will happen to you that will be worse than the illness you had before!”

¹⁵ The man went away and told the Jewish leaders SYN that it was Jesus who had healed him.

¹⁶ So the Jewish leaders SYN started to harass Jesus, because Jesus was doing these things ◄on the Sabbath/on the Jewish rest day►.

¹⁷ Then Jesus replied to them, “My Father has always been working every day, including ◄ the Sabbath/the day of rest►, up until now. I am doing the same thing!”

⁷ The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I’m coming, another steps down before me.”

⁸ Jesus said to him, “Arise, take up your mat, and walk.”

⁹ Immediately, the man was made well, and took up his mat and walked. Now that day was a Sabbath.

⁷ The ill man said in answer, Sir, I have nobody to put me into the bath when the water is moving; and while I am on the way down some other person gets in before me.

⁸ Jesus said to him, Get up, take your bed and go.

⁹ And the man became well straight away, and took up his bed and went. Now that day was the Sabbath.

¹⁰ So the Jews said to the man who had been made well, It is the Sabbath; and it is against the law for you to take up your bed.

¹¹ He said to them, But he who made me well, said to me, Take up your bed and go.

¹² Then they put to him the question: Who is the man who said to you, Take it up and go?

¹³ Now he who had been made well had no knowledge who it was, Jesus having gone away because of the number of people who were in that place.

¹⁴ After a time Jesus came across him in the Temple and said to him, See, you are well and strong; do no more sin for fear a worse thing comes to you.

¹⁵ The man went away and said to the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

¹⁶ And for this reason the Jews were turned against Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.

¹⁷ But his answer was: My Father is still working even now, and so I am working.

⁷ The infirm man answered him, Sir, I have not a man, in order, when the water has been troubled, to cast me into the pool; but while I am coming another descends before me.

⁸ Jesus says to him, Arise, take up thy couch and walk.

⁹ And immediately the man became well, and took up his couch and walked: and on that day was sabbath.

¹⁰ The Jews therefore said to the healed man, It is sabbath, it is not permitted thee to take up thy couch.

¹¹ He answered them, He that made me well, he said to me, Take up thy couch and walk.

¹² They asked him therefore, Who is the man who said to thee, Take up thy couch and walk?

¹³ But he that had been healed knew not who it was, for Jesus had slidden away, there being a crowd in the place.

¹⁴ After these things Jesus finds him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art become well: sin no more, that something worse do not happen to thee.

¹⁵ The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

¹⁶ And for this the Jews persecuted Jesus and sought to kill him, because he had done these things on sabbath.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto and I work.

¹⁶ Therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them: My Father worketh until now; and I work.

⁷ The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I do not have a man, so that whenever the water is stirred up, he may put me into the pool; but while I am coming, another steps down before me.”

⁸ Jesus said to him, “Arise, take up your bed and walk.”

⁹ And immediately the man became well, and took up his bed, and began to walk. And that day was the Sabbath.

¹⁰ Therefore the Jews said to the man who was healed, “It is the Sabbath; it is not lawful for you to carry your bed.”

¹⁵ The man went away and reported to the Jews that Jesus was the One who had made him well.

¹⁶ And on account of this the Jews began to persecute Jesus, and were seeking to kill Him, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, “My Father has been working until now, and I am working.”

⁷ The sick man answered Him, “Sir, I have no man to throw me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I am coming another gets in before me.”

⁸ Jesus says to him, “Get up, pick up your pallet and walk!”

⁹ Immediately the man became well and picked up his pallet and started to walk!

¹⁰ But that day was a Sabbath, so the Jews said to the one who had been healed: “It's the Sabbath! You aren't allowed to carry the pallet.”

¹¹ He answered them: “The one who made me well—He said to me, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk.’ ”

¹² So they asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up your pallet and walk’?”

¹³ But the man who was cured did not know who it was, because Jesus had disappeared, there being a crowd in the place.

¹⁴ After these things Jesus found him in the temple and said to him: “See, you are well. Don't sin any more, so that something worse doesn't happen to you.”

¹⁶ So because of this the Jews began persecuting Jesus and trying to kill Him, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, “Until now, my Father works, I also work.”

⁷ “Sir,” the sick man answered, “I don't have anyone to help me get into the pool when the water is stirred. While I'm trying to get there, someone always gets in before me.”

⁸ “Stand up, pick up your mat, and start walking!” Jesus told him.

⁹ Immediately the man was healed. He picked up his mat and started walking. Now the day that this happened was the Sabbath.

¹⁰ So the Jews said to the man who'd been healed, “This is the Sabbath! It's against the law to carry a mat!”

¹¹ “The man who healed me told me to pick up my mat and start walking,” he replied.

¹² “Who's this person who told you to carry your mat and walk?” they asked.

¹³ However, the man who'd been healed didn't know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the surrounding crowd.

¹⁴ Later on Jesus found the man in the Temple, and told him, “Look, now you've been healed. So stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.”

¹⁵ The man went and told the Jews it was Jesus who had healed him.

¹⁶ So the Jews started to harass Jesus because he was doing things on the Sabbath.

¹⁷ But Jesus told them, “My Father is still working, and so am I.”

⁷ The sicke man answered him, Sir, I haue no man, when the water is troubled, to put me into the poole: but while I am comming, another steppeth downe before me.

⁸ Iesus said vnto him, Rise: take vp thy bed, and walke.

⁹ And immediatly the man was made whole, and tooke vp his bed, and walked: and the same day was the Sabbath.

¹⁰ The Iewes therefore said to him that was made whole, It is the Sabbath day: it is not lawfull for thee to cary thy bed.

¹¹ He answered them, He that made me whole, he said vnto me, Take vp thy bed, and walke.

¹² Then asked they him, What man is that which said vnto thee, Take vp thy bed and walke?

¹³ And he that was healed, knewe not who it was: for Iesus had conueied himselfe away from the multitude that was in that place.

¹⁴ And after that, Iesus founde him in the Temple, and said vnto him, Beholde, thou art made whole: sinne no more, lest a worse thing come vnto thee.

¹⁵ The man departed and tolde the Iewes that it was Iesus, which had made him whole.

¹⁶ And therefore the Iewes did persecute Iesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the Sabbath day.

¹⁰ Now it was the Sabbath. So the religious authorities said to the man who had been cured, “This is the Sabbath; you must not carry your mat.”

¹¹ “The man who cured me,” he answered, “said to me ‘Take up your mat and walk.’”

¹² “Who was it,” they asked, “that said to you ‘Take up your mat and walk’?”

¹³ But the man who had been restored did not know who it was; for Jesus had moved away, because there was a crowd there.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus found the man in the Temple Courts, and said to him, “You are cured now; do not sin again, or something worse may happen to you.”

¹⁰ So the Jews Praisers said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath ·To cease·! It is against Torah ·Teaching· for you to carry your mat!”

¹¹ He answered them, “He who made me well, the same said to me, ‘Take up your mat, and walk.’”

¹² Then they asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your mat, and walk’?”

¹³ But he who was healed didn’t know who it was, for Yeshua Salvation had withdrawn, a crowd being in the place.

¹⁴ Afterward Yeshua Salvation found him in the temple, and said to him, “Behold, you are made well. Sin no more, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

¹⁵ The man went away, and told the Jews Praisers that it was Yeshua Salvation who had made him well.

¹⁶ For this cause the Jews Praisers persecuted Yeshua Salvation, and sought to kill him, because he did these things on the Sabbath ·To cease·.

¹⁷ But Yeshua Salvation answered them, “ 'Avi My Father is still working, so I am working, too.”

⁷ The sicke answered him: Syr I have no man when the water is troubled to put me into the pole. But in the meane tyme whill I am about to come another steppeth doune before me.

⁸ And Iesus sayde vnto him: ryse take vp thy beed and walke.

⁹ And immediatly the man was made whole and toke vp his beed and went. And the same daye was the Saboth daye.

¹⁰ The Iewes therfore sayde vnto him that was made whole. It is the Saboth daye it is not laufull for the to cary thy beed.

¹¹ He answered them: he that made me whole sayde vnto me: take vp thy beed and get the hence.

¹² Then axed they him: what man is that which sayde vnto the take vp thy beed and walke.

¹³ And he that was healed wist not who it was. For Iesus had gotte him selfe awaye be cause that ther was preace of people in the place.

¹⁴ And after that Iesus founde him in the temple and sayd vnto him: beholde thou arte made whole synne no moore lest a worsse thinge happen vnto the.

¹⁵ The man departed and tolde the Iewes that that was Iesus whiche had made him whole.

¹⁶ And therfore the Iewes dyd persecute Iesus and sought the meanes to slee him because he had done these thinges on the Saboth daye.

¹⁷ And Iesus answered them: my father worketh hidder to and I worke.

¹¹ He answered them, “He who made me well said to me, ‘Take up your mat and walk.’”

¹² Then they asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your mat and walk’?”

¹³ But he who was healed didn’t know who it was, for Jesus had withdrawn, a crowd being in the place.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus found him in the temple and said to him, “Behold, you are made well. Sin no more, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

¹⁵ The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

¹⁶ For this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus and sought to kill him, because he did these things on the Sabbath.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, “My Father is still working, so I am working, too.”

⁷ The sick man answered him, “Sir, I have no one to put me into the pool when the water is stirred up, but while I’m coming, another steps down before me.”

⁸ Jesus said to him, “Arise, take up your mat, and walk.”

⁹ Immediately, the man was made well, and took up his mat and walked. Now that day was a Sabbath.

¹⁰ So the Jews said to him who was cured, “It is the Sabbath. It is not lawful for you to carry the mat.”

¹¹ He answered them, “He who made me well said to me, ‘Take up your mat and walk.’”

¹² Then they asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Take up your mat and walk’?”

⁷ The impotent man answered him, Sir, I have no man, when the water is agitated, to put me into the pool: but while I am coming, another steppeth down before me.

⁸ Jesus saith to him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.

⁹ And immediately the man was healed, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.

¹⁰ The Jews therefore said to him that was cured, it is the sabbath; it is not lawful for thee to carry thy bed.

¹¹ He answered them, He that healed me, the same said to me, Take up thy bed, and walk.

¹² Then they asked him, What man is that who said to thee, Take up thy bed, and walk?

¹³ And he that was healed knew not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art cured: sin no more, lest a worse thing come to thee.

¹⁵ The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had healed him.

¹⁶ And therefore the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

¹³ But he that was made whole, wist not who it was. And Jesus bowed away from the people, that was set in the place.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, Lo! thou art made whole; now do not thou do sin or now do not thou sin, lest any worse thing befall to thee.

¹⁵ That man went, and told to the Jews, that it was Jesus that made him whole.

¹⁶ Therefore the Jews pursued Jesus, for he did this thing in the sabbath.

¹⁷ And Jesus answered to them, My Father worketh till now, and I work.

¹³ But he that was made whole, wist not who it was, (or But he who was healed, did not know who it was). And Jesus (had) bowed away from the people, that was set in the place.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus found him in the temple, and said to him, Lo! thou art made whole, (or Behold! thou art healed); now do not thou do sin or now do not thou sin, lest any worse thing befall to thee.

¹⁵ (Then) That man went, and told to the Jews, that it was Jesus that made him whole.

¹⁶ Therefore the Jews pursued Jesus, for he did this thing in the sabbath. (And so the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did this miracle on the Sabbath.)

¹⁷ And Jesus answered to them, My Father worketh till now, and I work.

⁷ The sijk man answerde to hym, Lord, Y haue no man, that whanne the watir is moued, to putte me `in to the cisterne; for the while Y come, anothir goith doun bifor me.

⁸ Jhesus seith to hym, Rise vp, take thi bed, and go.

⁹ And anoon the man was maad hool, and took vp his bed, and wente forth. And it was sabat in that dai.

¹⁰ Therfor the Jewis seiden to him that was maad hool, It is sabat, it is not leueful to thee, to take awei thi bed.

¹¹ He answeride to hem, He that made me hool, seide to me, Take thi bed, and go.

¹² Therfor thei axiden him, What man `is that, that seide to thee, Take vp thi bed, and go?

¹³ But he that was maad hool, wiste not who it was. And Jhesus bowide awei fro the puple, that was set in the place.

¹⁴ Aftirward Jhesus foond hym in the temple, and seide to hym, Lo! thou art maad hool; now nyle thou do synne, lest any worse thing bifalle to thee.

¹⁵ Thilke man wente, and telde to the Jewis, that it was Jhesu that made hym hool.

¹⁶ Therfor the Jewis pursueden Jhesu, for he dide this thing in the sabat.

¹⁷ And Jhesus answeride to hem, My fadir worchith til now, and Y worche.

⁷ The ailing man answered him, 'Sir, I have no man, that, when the water may be troubled, he may put me into the pool, and while I am coming, another doth go down before me.'

⁸ Jesus saith to him, 'Rise, take up thy couch, and be walking;'

⁹ and immediately the man became whole, and he took up his couch, and was walking, and it was a sabbath on that day,

¹⁰ the Jews then said to him that hath been healed, 'It is a sabbath; it is not lawful to thee to take up the couch.'

¹¹ He answered them, 'He who made me whole — that one said to me, Take up thy couch, and be walking;'

¹² they questioned him, then, 'Who is the man who is saying to thee, Take up thy couch and be walking?'

¹³ But he that was healed had not known who he is, for Jesus did move away, a multitude being in the place.

¹⁴ After these things, Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, 'Lo, thou hast become whole; sin no more, lest something worse may happen to thee.'

¹⁵ The man went away, and told the Jews that it is Jesus who made him whole,

¹⁶ and because of this were the Jews persecuting Jesus, and seeking to kill him, because these things he was doing on a sabbath.

¹⁷ And Jesus answered them, 'My Father till now doth work, and I work;'
