John 5:31-47 in American Standard Version (1901)

31 If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.
32 It is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.
33 Ye have sent unto John, and he hath borne witness unto the truth.
34 But the witness which I receive is not from man: howbeit I say these things, that ye may be saved.
35 He was the lamp that burneth and shineth; and ye were willing to rejoice for a season in his light.
36 But the witness which I have is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father hath given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
37 And the Father that sent me, he hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.
38 And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he sent, him ye believe not.
39 Ye search the scriptures, because ye think that in them ye have eternal life; and these are they which bear witness of me;
40 and ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.
41 I receive not glory from men.
42 But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in yourselves.
43 I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.
44 How can ye believe, who receive glory one of another, and the glory that cometh from the only God ye seek not?
45 Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, on whom ye have set your hope.
46 For if ye believed Moses, ye would believe me; for he wrote of me.
47 But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?

John 5:31-47 in God's Living Word

31 “If I testify about myself, my testimony isn’t valid.
32 There is another who testifies on my behalf, and I know that his testimony about me is valid.
33 You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.
34 Not that I accept human testimony, but I tell you this so that you may be saved.
35 John was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.
36 I have a greater testimony than John’s. The works that the Father has given me to finish — the very works that I do — testify about me, that the Father has sent me.
37 The Father Himself, who sent me, has testified about me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.
38 You don’t have His words dwelling in you, because you don’t believe the One who He sent.
39 You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life, and these testify about me.
40 Yet you refuse to come to me to have life.
41 “I don’t accept glory from men,
42 but I know you. I know that you don’t have God’s sincere love in you.
43 I have come in my Father’s name, and you don’t accept me, but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.
44 How can you believe when you accept glory from one another, and don’t seek the glory that comes from the only God?
45 “Don’t think that I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, who you have set your hope on.
46 If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.
47 If you don’t believe what he wrote, how will you believe what I say?”

John 5:31-47 in Translation for Translators

31 If I were the only one to tell people about myself, people could rightly say that what I say is not true.
32 But there is someone else who tells people about me. And I know that what he tells people about me is true.
33 As for you, when you sent messengers to John the Baptizer to ask about me, he told the truth about me.
34 I do not need that people tell others about me. But instead, I am reminding you about what John told people about me, in order that you will believe it and be saved { God will save you}.
35 John's message about me (OR, John) MET was like a lamp that shines brightly. For a short while you were willing to be made happy by that message {to let that message make you happy}.
36 But there is something else that tells you about me. It should prove who I am more than what John said about me. The miracles PRS that my Father told me to do, the miracles that I am performing, show (OR, prove) to people that my Father sent me.
37 Furthermore, my Father, who sent me, tells people about me. You have never heard his voice or seen him.
38 Furthermore, you have not believed in me, the one he sent. So you have not believed his message in your inner beings.
39 You carefully study (OR, Study) the Scriptures, because you think that by studying them you will find the way to have eternal life. And those Scriptures tell people about me!
40 But you refuse ◄to come to me/to believe my message► in order that you may have eternal life.
41 It does not matter to me whether people praise me.
42 But you want people to praise you. I know that within yourselves you do not love God.
43 Although I have come to earth with my Father's authority MTY, you do not accept me. But if someone else comes with his own authority MTY, you accept him!
44 You accept your praising each other, but you do not try to do things that will result in God himself praising you. So ◄there is no way you can believe in me!/how can you believe my message?► RHQ
45 But do not think that I am the one who will accuse you while my Father is listening! No, it is Moses who will accuse you! You thought that he would defend you.
46 Moses wrote about me, so if you had believed what he wrote, you would have believed what I said
47 But because you did not believe what he wrote about me, ◄you will certainly not believe what I say!/how will you believe what I say?► RHQ”

31 If I gave witness about myself, my witness would not be true.
32 There is another who gives witness about me and I am certain that the witness he gives about me is true.
33 You sent to John and he gave true witness.
34 But I have no need of a man's witness: I only say these things so that you may have salvation.
35 He was a burning and shining light, and for a time you were ready to be happy in his light.
36 But the witness which I have is greater than that of John: the work which the Father has given me to do, the very work which I am now doing, is a witness that the Father has sent me.
37 And the Father himself who sent me has given witness about me. Not one of you has ever given ear to his voice; his form you have not seen.
38 And you have not kept his word in your hearts, because you have not faith in him whom he has sent.
39 You make search in the holy Writings, in the belief that through them you get eternal life; and it is those Writings which give witness about me.
40 And still you have no desire to come to me so that you may have life.
41 I do not take honour from men;
42 But I have knowledge of you that you have no love for God in your hearts.
43 I have come in my Father's name, and your hearts are not open to me. If another comes with no other authority but himself, you will give him your approval.
44 How is it possible for you to have faith while you take honour one from another and have no desire for the honour which comes from the only God?
45 Put out of your minds the thought that I will say things against you to the Father: the one who says things against you is Moses, on whom you put your hopes.
46 If you had belief in Moses you would have belief in me; for his writings are about me.
47 If you have no belief in his writings, how will you have belief in my words?

John 5:31-47 in Free Bible Version

31 If I were to make claims about myself, such claims wouldn't be valid;
32 but someone else gives evidence about me, and I know what he says about me is true.
33 You asked John about me, and he told the truth,
34 but I don't need any human endorsement. I'm explaining this to you so you can be saved.
35 John was like a brightly-burning light, and you were willing to enjoy his light for a while.
36 But the evidence I'm giving is greater than John's. For I am doing the work that the Father gave me to do,
37 and this is the proof that the Father sent me. The Father who sent me, he himself speaks on my behalf. You've never heard his voice, and you've never seen what he looks like,
38 and you don't accept what he says, because you don't trust in the one he sent.
39 You search the Scriptures because you think that through them you'll gain eternal life. But the evidence they give is in support of me!
40 And yet you don't want to come to me so that you might live.
41 I'm not looking for human approval
42 —I know you, and that you don't have God's love in you.
43 For I've come to represent my Father, and you won't accept me; but if someone comes representing themselves, then you accept them!
44 How can you trust in me when you look for praise from one another and yet you don't look for praise from the one true God?
45 But don't think I will be making accusations about you to the Father. It's Moses who is accusing you, the one in whom you place such confidence.
46 For if you really trusted Moses you would trust in me, because he wrote about me.
47 But since you don't trust what he said, why would you trust what I say?”

31 If I should beare witnesse of my selfe, my witnesse were not true.

36 But I haue greater witnesse then the witnesse of Iohn: for the workes which the Father hath giuen me to finish, the same workes that I doe, beare witnesse of me, that the Father sent me.
37 And the Father himselfe, which hath sent me, beareth witnesse of me. Ye haue not heard his voyce at any time, neither haue ye seene his shape.
38 And his worde haue you not abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye beleeued not.
39 Searche the Scriptures: for in them ye thinke to haue eternall life, and they are they which testifie of me.
40 But ye will not come to me, that ye might haue life.
41 I receiue not the prayse of men.
42 But I know you, that ye haue not the loue of God in you.
43 I am come in my Fathers Name, and ye receiue me not: if another shall come in his owne name, him will ye receiue.
44 How can ye beleeue, which receiue honour one of another, and seeke not the honour that commeth of God alone?
45 Doe not thinke that I will accuse you to my Father: there is one that accuseth you, euen Moses, in whom ye trust.
46 For had ye beleeued Moses, ye would haue beleeued me: for he wrote of me.
47 But if ye beleeue not his writings, how shall ye beleeue my wordes?

34 But the testimony which I receive is not from man; but these things I say, that ye may be saved.
35 He was the burning and shining lamp: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.
36 But the testimony which I have, is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father hath given me to perform, the works themselves which I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.
37 And the Father who sent me, he hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.
38 And ye have not his word abiding in you; for whom he sent, him ye believe not.
39 Ye search the Scriptures, because ye yourselves think that in them ye have everlasting life; and it is they which testify of me;
40 and ye are not willing to come to me, that ye may have life.
41 I receive not honor from men;
42 but I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.
43 I have come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not; if another come in his own name, him ye will receive.
44 How can ye believe while ye receive honor from one another, and seek not the honor that is from him who alone is God?
45 Do not think that I shall accuse you to the Father; there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye have placed your hope.
46 For if ye believed Moses, ye would believe me; for he wrote of me.
47 But if ye do not believe his writings, how will ye believe my words?

37 'And the Father who sent me Himself hath testified concerning me; ye have neither heard His voice at any time, nor His appearance have ye seen;
