John 5:13-46 in English

¹³ But he that was healed knew not who it was; for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in the place.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing befall thee.

¹⁵ The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him whole.

¹⁶ And for this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh even until now, and I work.

¹⁸ For this cause therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only brake the sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

¹⁹ Jesus therefore answered and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father doing: for what things soever he doeth, these the Son also doeth in like manner.

²⁰ For the Father loveth the Son, and showeth him all things that himself doeth: and greater works than these will he show him, that ye may marvel.

²¹ For as the Father raiseth the dead and giveth them life, even so the Son also giveth life to whom he will.

²² For neither doth the Father judge any man, but he hath given all judgment unto the Son;

²³ that all may honor the Son, even as they honor the Father. He that honoreth not the Son honoreth not the Father that sent him.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth him that sent me, hath eternal life, and cometh not into judgment, but hath passed out of death into life.

²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour cometh, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God; and they that hear shall live.

²⁶ For as the Father hath life in himself, even so gave he to the Son also to have life in himself:

²⁷ and he gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a son of man.

²⁸ Marvel not at this: for the hour cometh, in which all that are in the tombs shall hear his voice,

²⁹ and shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment.

³⁰ I can of myself do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is righteous; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

³¹ If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.

³² It is another that beareth witness of me; and I know that the witness which he witnesseth of me is true.

³³ Ye have sent unto John, and he hath borne witness unto the truth.

³⁴ But the witness which I receive is not from man: howbeit I say these things, that ye may be saved.

³⁵ He was the lamp that burneth and shineth; and ye were willing to rejoice for a season in his light.

³⁶ But the witness which I have is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father hath given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

³⁷ And the Father that sent me, he hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.

³⁸ And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he sent, him ye believe not.

³⁹ Ye search the scriptures, because ye think that in them ye have eternal life; and these are they which bear witness of me;

⁴⁰ and ye will not come to me, that ye may have life.

⁴¹ I receive not glory from men.

⁴² But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in yourselves.

⁴³ I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

⁴⁴ How can ye believe, who receive glory one of another, and the glory that cometh from the only God ye seek not?

⁴⁵ Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, on whom ye have set your hope.

⁴⁶ For if ye believed Moses, ye would believe me; for he wrote of me.

¹³ The man who had been healed didn’t know who it was, because Jesus had disappeared into the crowd.

¹⁴ Later, Jesus found him in the temple and told him, “See, you have been made well! Don’t sin any more, so that nothing worse happens to you.”

¹⁵ The man went away, and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

¹⁶ For this reason, the Jews persecuted Jesus, and sought to kill Him, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.

¹⁷ Jesus answered them, “My Father is still working, so I am working, too.”

¹⁸ Because of this, the Jews tried all the harder to kill Him. Not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but He was even calling God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

¹⁹ Then Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, unless He sees the Father do it, for whatever He does, the Son does likewise.

²⁰ The Father loves the Son, and shows Him everything that He Himself does. He will show Him even greater works than these, that you may marvel.

²¹ As the Father raises the dead and gives life to them, even so the Son gives life to whoever He wishes.

²² The Father judges no one, but has committed all judgment to the Son,

²³ that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. He who doesn’t honor the Son doesn’t honor the Father who sent Him.

²⁴ “Most assuredly, I tell you, the person who hears my words and believes in Him who sent me has everlasting life, and won’t come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.

²⁵ Most assuredly, I tell you, the time is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of God’s Son, and those who hear will live.

²⁶ For just as the Father has life in Himself, so He has granted the Son to have life in Himself,

²⁷ and has given Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man.

²⁸ Don’t marvel at this, for the time is coming in which all who are in the graves will hear His voice

²⁹ and come out — those who have done good, to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of condemnation.

³⁰ I can do nothing by myself. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous, because I don’t seek my own will, but the will of the Father who sent me.

³¹ “If I testify about myself, my testimony isn’t valid.

³² There is another who testifies on my behalf, and I know that his testimony about me is valid.

³³ You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.

³⁴ Not that I accept human testimony, but I tell you this so that you may be saved.

³⁵ John was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing for a time to rejoice in his light.

³⁶ I have a greater testimony than John’s. The works that the Father has given me to finish — the very works that I do — testify about me, that the Father has sent me.

³⁷ The Father Himself, who sent me, has testified about me. You have neither heard His voice at any time, nor seen His form.

³⁸ You don’t have His words dwelling in you, because you don’t believe the One who He sent.

³⁹ You search the Scriptures, for in them you think you have eternal life, and these testify about me.

⁴⁰ Yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

⁴¹ “I don’t accept glory from men,

⁴² but I know you. I know that you don’t have God’s sincere love in you.

⁴³ I have come in my Father’s name, and you don’t accept me, but if someone else comes in his own name, you will accept him.

⁴⁴ How can you believe when you accept glory from one another, and don’t seek the glory that comes from the only God?

⁴⁵ “Don’t think that I will accuse you before the Father. Your accuser is Moses, who you have set your hope on.

⁴⁶ If you believed Moses, you would believe me, for he wrote about me.

¹³ And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

¹⁵ The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.

¹⁶ And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

¹⁸ Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

¹⁹ Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

²⁰ For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

²¹ For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.

²² For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

²³ That all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.

²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, The hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God: and they that hear shall live.

²⁶ For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself;

²⁷ And hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.

²⁸ Marvel not at this: for the hour is coming, in the which all that are in the graves shall hear his voice,

²⁹ And shall come forth; they that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of damnation.

³⁰ I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

³¹ If I bear witness of myself, my witness is not true.

³⁴ But I receive not testimony from man: but these things I say, that ye might be saved.

³⁵ He was a burning and a shining light: and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

³⁶ But I have greater witness than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to finish, the same works that I do, bear witness of me, that the Father hath sent me.

³⁷ And the Father himself, which hath sent me, hath borne witness of me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

³⁸ And ye have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye believe not.

³⁹ Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.

⁴⁰ And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.

⁴¹ I receive not honour from men.

⁴² But I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

⁴³ I am come in my Father’s name, and ye receive me not: if another shall come in his own name, him ye will receive.

⁴⁴ How can ye believe, which receive honour one of another, and seek not the honour that cometh from God only?

⁴⁵ Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuseth you, even Moses, in whom ye trust.

⁴⁶ For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me: for he wrote of me.

¹³ But since Jesus had disappeared in the crowd without telling the man his name, the man did not know who it was who had healed him.

¹⁴ Later, Jesus found the man in the Temple courtyard. He told the man his name, and said to him, “Listen! You are healed! So stop sinning! If you do not stop sinning, something will happen to you that will be worse than the illness you had before!”

¹⁵ The man went away and told the Jewish leaders SYN that it was Jesus who had healed him.

¹⁶ So the Jewish leaders SYN started to harass Jesus, because Jesus was doing these things ◄on the Sabbath/on the Jewish rest day►.

¹⁷ Then Jesus replied to them, “My Father has always been working every day, including ◄ the Sabbath/the day of rest►, up until now. I am doing the same thing!”

¹⁸ The Jewish leaders SYN considered that he was disobeying their rules about ◄the Sabbath/the day of rest►, and that by saying that God was his Father, he was making himself equal with God. And they considered that both these things were grounds for killing him. So they tried even harder to find a way to kill him.

¹⁹ Jesus replied to them by saying, “You need to know this: I can do nothing by my own authority. I do only the kind of things that I see my Father doing. Whatever kinds of things my Father is doing, those are the things I am doing.

²⁰ My Father loves me, and he shows me everything that he is doing. He will show me the miracles that he wants me to do that will be greater than the ones that you have already seen me do, so that you may be amazed.

²¹ For example, just like my Father causes people who have died to become alive again, I will give eternal life to everyone that I want to.

²² Furthermore, my Father is not the one who judges people concerning their sins. Instead, he has given to me the work of judging people,

²³ in order that all people may honor me, just like they honor my Father. My Father considers that anyone who does not honor me is not honoring him, the one who sent me.

²⁴ Listen to this carefully: Those who hear my message and believe that God is the one who sent me have eternal life. God will not ◄condemn them/say that he will punish them►. They are no longer separated from God. Instead, they have eternal life.

²⁵ Listen to this carefully: There will be a time when those who are ◄spiritually dead/separated from God► will hear the voice of me, ◄the Son of God/the man who is also God►. In fact, it is that time already. Those who hear and pay attention to my message will have eternal life.

²⁶ My Father has power to make things live. Similarly, he has given me the power to enable people to live eternally.

²⁷ Because I am the one who came from heaven, he has given me the authority to judge people concerning their sins.

²⁸ Do not be surprised about that, because there will be a time when all people who have died will hear my voice,

²⁹ and they will become alive again. Those who have lived good lives will rise from their graves and live forever. But those who have lived evil lives will rise, and I will ◄condemn them/declare that I will punish them for their sins►.

³⁰ I do not do anything like that by my own authority. I judge people only according to what I hear my Father tell me. I will judge people fairly, because I do not want to please only myself. Instead, I want to please my Father, who sent me.

³¹ If I were the only one to tell people about myself, people could rightly say that what I say is not true.

³² But there is someone else who tells people about me. And I know that what he tells people about me is true.

³³ As for you, when you sent messengers to John the Baptizer to ask about me, he told the truth about me.

³⁴ I do not need that people tell others about me. But instead, I am reminding you about what John told people about me, in order that you will believe it and be saved { God will save you}.

³⁵ John's message about me (OR, John) MET was like a lamp that shines brightly. For a short while you were willing to be made happy by that message {to let that message make you happy}.

³⁶ But there is something else that tells you about me. It should prove who I am more than what John said about me. The miracles PRS that my Father told me to do, the miracles that I am performing, show (OR, prove) to people that my Father sent me.

³⁷ Furthermore, my Father, who sent me, tells people about me. You have never heard his voice or seen him.

³⁸ Furthermore, you have not believed in me, the one he sent. So you have not believed his message in your inner beings.

³⁹ You carefully study (OR, Study) the Scriptures, because you think that by studying them you will find the way to have eternal life. And those Scriptures tell people about me!

⁴⁰ But you refuse ◄to come to me/to believe my message► in order that you may have eternal life.

⁴¹ It does not matter to me whether people praise me.

⁴² But you want people to praise you. I know that within yourselves you do not love God.

⁴³ Although I have come to earth with my Father's authority MTY, you do not accept me. But if someone else comes with his own authority MTY, you accept him!

⁴⁴ You accept your praising each other, but you do not try to do things that will result in God himself praising you. So ◄there is no way you can believe in me!/how can you believe my message?► RHQ

⁴⁵ But do not think that I am the one who will accuse you while my Father is listening! No, it is Moses who will accuse you! You thought that he would defend you.

⁴⁶ Moses wrote about me, so if you had believed what he wrote, you would have believed what I said

¹⁶ For this cause the Jews persecuted Jesus and sought to kill him, because he did these things on the Sabbath.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, “My Father is still working, so I am working, too.”

¹⁸ For this cause therefore the Jews sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath, but also called God his own Father, making himself equal with God.

¹⁹ Jesus therefore answered them, “Most certainly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees the Father doing. For whatever things he does, these the Son also does likewise.

²⁰ For the Father has affection for the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does. He will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

²¹ For as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, even so the Son also gives life to whom he desires.

²² For the Father judges no one, but he has given all judgement to the Son,

²³ that all may honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He who doesn’t honour the Son doesn’t honour the Father who sent him.

²⁴ “Most certainly I tell you, he who hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life, and doesn’t come into judgement, but has passed out of death into life.

²⁵ Most certainly I tell you, the hour comes, and now is, when the dead will hear the Son of God’s voice; and those who hear will live.

²⁶ For as the Father has life in himself, even so he gave to the Son also to have life in himself.

²⁷ He also gave him authority to execute judgement, because he is a son of man.

²⁸ Don’t marvel at this, for the hour comes in which all who are in the tombs will hear his voice

²⁹ and will come out; those who have done good, to the resurrection of life; and those who have done evil, to the resurrection of judgement.

³⁰ I can of myself do nothing. As I hear, I judge; and my judgement is righteous, because I don’t seek my own will, but the will of my Father who sent me.

³¹ “If I testify about myself, my witness is not valid.

³² It is another who testifies about me. I know that the testimony which he testifies about me is true.

³³ You have sent to John, and he has testified to the truth.

³⁴ But the testimony which I receive is not from man. However, I say these things that you may be saved.

³⁵ He was the burning and shining lamp, and you were willing to rejoice for a while in his light.

³⁶ But the testimony which I have is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father gave me to accomplish, the very works that I do, testify about me, that the Father has sent me.

³⁷ The Father himself, who sent me, has testified about me. You have neither heard his voice at any time, nor seen his form.

³⁸ You don’t have his word living in you, because you don’t believe him whom he sent.

³⁹ “You search the Scriptures, because you think that in them you have eternal life; and these are they which testify about me.

⁴⁰ Yet you will not come to me, that you may have life.

⁴¹ I don’t receive glory from men.

⁴² But I know you, that you don’t have God’s love in yourselves.

⁴³ I have come in my Father’s name, and you don’t receive me. If another comes in his own name, you will receive him.

⁴⁴ How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and you don’t seek the glory that comes from the only God?

⁴⁵ “Don’t think that I will accuse you to the Father. There is one who accuses you, even Moses, on whom you have set your hope.

⁴⁶ For if you believed Moses, you would believe me; for he wrote about me.

¹³ Now he who had been made well had no knowledge who it was, Jesus having gone away because of the number of people who were in that place.

¹⁴ After a time Jesus came across him in the Temple and said to him, See, you are well and strong; do no more sin for fear a worse thing comes to you.

¹⁵ The man went away and said to the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

¹⁶ And for this reason the Jews were turned against Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.

¹⁷ But his answer was: My Father is still working even now, and so I am working.

¹⁸ For this cause the Jews had an even greater desire to put Jesus to death, because not only did he not keep the Sabbath but he said God was his Father, so making himself equal with God.

¹⁹ So Jesus made answer and said, Truly I say to you, The Son is not able to do anything himself; he is able to do only what he sees the Father doing; whatever the Father does the Son does it in the same way.

²⁰ For the Father has love for the Son and lets him see everything which he does: and he will let him see greater works than these so that you may be full of wonder.

²¹ In the same way, as the Father gives life to the dead, even so the Son gives life to those to whom he is pleased to give it.

²² The Father is not the judge of men, but he has given all decisions into the hands of the Son;

²³ So that all men may give honour to the Son even as they give honour to the Father. He who gives no honour to the Son gives no honour to the Father who sent him.

²⁴ Truly I say to you, The man whose ears are open to my word and who has faith in him who sent me, has eternal life; he will not be judged, but has come from death into life.

²⁵ Truly I say to you, The time is coming, it has even now come, when the voice of the Son of God will come to the ears of the dead, and those hearing it will have life.

²⁶ For even as the Father has life in himself, so he has given to the Son to have life in himself.

²⁷ And he has given him authority to be judge because he is the Son of man.

²⁸ Do not be surprised at this: for the time is coming when his voice will come to all who are in the place of the dead,

²⁹ And they will come out; those who have done good, into the new life; and those who have done evil, to be judged.

³⁰ Of myself I am unable to do anything: as the voice comes to me so I give a decision: and my decision is right because I have no desire to do what is pleasing to myself, but only what is pleasing to him who sent me.

³¹ If I gave witness about myself, my witness would not be true.

³² There is another who gives witness about me and I am certain that the witness he gives about me is true.

³³ You sent to John and he gave true witness.

³⁴ But I have no need of a man's witness: I only say these things so that you may have salvation.

³⁵ He was a burning and shining light, and for a time you were ready to be happy in his light.

³⁶ But the witness which I have is greater than that of John: the work which the Father has given me to do, the very work which I am now doing, is a witness that the Father has sent me.

³⁷ And the Father himself who sent me has given witness about me. Not one of you has ever given ear to his voice; his form you have not seen.

³⁸ And you have not kept his word in your hearts, because you have not faith in him whom he has sent.

³⁹ You make search in the holy Writings, in the belief that through them you get eternal life; and it is those Writings which give witness about me.

⁴⁰ And still you have no desire to come to me so that you may have life.

⁴¹ I do not take honour from men;

⁴² But I have knowledge of you that you have no love for God in your hearts.

⁴³ I have come in my Father's name, and your hearts are not open to me. If another comes with no other authority but himself, you will give him your approval.

⁴⁴ How is it possible for you to have faith while you take honour one from another and have no desire for the honour which comes from the only God?

⁴⁵ Put out of your minds the thought that I will say things against you to the Father: the one who says things against you is Moses, on whom you put your hopes.

⁴⁶ If you had belief in Moses you would have belief in me; for his writings are about me.

¹³ But he that had been healed knew not who it was, for Jesus had slidden away, there being a crowd in the place.

¹⁴ After these things Jesus finds him in the temple, and said to him, Behold, thou art become well: sin no more, that something worse do not happen to thee.

¹⁵ The man went away and told the Jews that it was Jesus who had made him well.

¹⁶ And for this the Jews persecuted Jesus and sought to kill him, because he had done these things on sabbath.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto and I work.

¹⁸ For this therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he had not only violated the sabbath, but also said that God was his own Father, making himself equal with God.

¹⁹ Jesus therefore answered and said to them, Verily, verily, I say to you, The Son can do nothing of himself save whatever he sees the Father doing: for whatever things he does, these things also the Son does in like manner.

²⁰ For the Father loves the Son and shews him all things which he himself does; and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may wonder.

²¹ For even as the Father raises the dead and quickens them, thus the Son also quickens whom he will:

²² for neither does the Father judge any one, but has given all judgment to the Son;

²³ that all may honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He who honours not the Son, honours not the Father who has sent him.

²⁴ Verily, verily, I say unto you, that he that hears my word, and believes him that has sent me, has life eternal, and does not come into judgment, but is passed out of death into life.

²⁵ Verily, verily, I say unto you, that an hour is coming, and now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and they that have heard shall live.

²⁶ For even as the Father has life in himself, so he has given to the Son also to have life in himself,

²⁷ and has given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is Son of man.

²⁸ Wonder not at this, for an hour is coming in which all who are in the tombs shall hear his voice,

²⁹ and shall go forth; those that have practised good, to resurrection of life, and those that have done evil, to resurrection of judgment.

³⁰ I cannot do anything of myself; as I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous, because I do not seek my will, but the will of him that has sent me.

³¹ If I bear witness concerning myself, my witness is not true.

³² It is another who bears witness concerning me, and I know that the witness which he bears concerning me is true.

³³ Ye have sent unto John, and he has borne witness to the truth.

³⁴ But I do not receive witness from man, but I say this that ye might be saved.

³⁵ He was the burning and shining lamp, and ye were willing for a season to rejoice in his light.

³⁶ But I have the witness that is greater than that of John; for the works which the Father has given me that I should complete them, the works themselves which I do, bear witness concerning me that the Father has sent me.

³⁷ And the Father who has sent me himself has borne witness concerning me. Ye have neither heard his voice at any time, nor have seen his shape,

³⁸ and ye have not his word abiding in you; for whom he hath sent, him ye do not believe.

³⁹ Ye search the scriptures, for ye think that in them ye have life eternal, and they it is which bear witness concerning me;

⁴⁰ and ye will not come to me that ye might have life.

⁴¹ I do not receive glory from men,

⁴² but I know you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

⁴³ I am come in my Father's name, and ye receive me not; if another come in his own name, him ye will receive.

⁴⁴ How can ye believe, who receive glory one of another, and seek not the glory which comes from God alone?

⁴⁵ Think not that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one who accuses you, Moses, on whom ye trust;

⁴⁶ for if ye had believed Moses, ye would have believed me, for he wrote of me.

¹³ But he who was healed, knew not who it was; for Jesus went aside from the multitude standing in the place.

¹⁴ Afterwards, Jesus findeth him in the temple, and saith to him: Behold thou art made whole: sin no more, lest some worse thing happen to thee.

¹⁵ The man went his way, and told the Jews, that it was Jesus who had made him whole.

¹⁶ Therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, because he did these things on the sabbath.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them: My Father worketh until now; and I work.

¹⁸ Hereupon therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he did not only break the sabbath, but also said God was his Father, making himself equal to God.

¹⁹ Then Jesus answered, and said to them: Amen, amen, I say unto you, the Son cannot do any thing of himself, but what he seeth the Father doing: for what things soever he doth, these the Son also doth in like manner.

²⁰ For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things which himself doth: and greater works than these will he shew him, that you may wonder.

²¹ For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and giveth life: so the Son also giveth life to whom he will.

²² For neither doth the Father judge any man, but hath given all judgment to the Son.

²³ That all men may honour the Son, as they honour the Father. He who honoureth not the Son, honoureth not the Father, who hath sent him.

³⁶ But I have a greater testimony than that of John: for the works which the Father hath given me to perfect; the works themselves, which I do, give testimony of me, that the Father hath sent me.

³⁷ And the Father himself who hath sent me, hath given testimony of me: neither have you heard his voice at any time, nor seen his shape.

³⁸ And you have not his word abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him you believe not.

³⁹ Search the scriptures, for you think in them to have life everlasting; and the same are they that give testimony of me.

¹⁶ And on account of this the Jews began to persecute Jesus, and were seeking to kill Him, because He was doing these things on the Sabbath.

¹⁸ Because of this the Jews were seeking all the more to kill Him, because not only was He breaking the Sabbath, but also He called God His own Father, making Himself equal with God.

¹⁹ Then Jesus answered and said to them, “Most assuredly I say to you, the Son can do nothing of Himself, but what He sees the Father doing; for whatever He does, the Son also does in like manner.

²⁰ For the Father loves the Son, and shows to Him all things which He Himself does; and greater works than these He will show Him, so that you may marvel.

¹⁹ Then Jesus answered and said to them: “Most assuredly I say to you, the Son is not able to do anything from Himself, except something He sees the Father doing; because whatever things He does, precisely these the Son also does.

²⁰ For the Father loves the Son and shows Him everything that He Himself is doing; and He will show Him greater works than these, so that you may marvel.

²¹ Now just as the Father raises the dead and gives life, just so the Son also gives life to whom He wishes.

²² In fact the Father does not judge anyone but has committed all the judging to the Son,

²³ so that all will honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.

²⁴ “Most assuredly I say to you that the one listening to my word and believing on Him who sent me has eternal life; he will not go into judging but has moved out of the death into the Life.

²⁵ “Most assuredly I say to you that a time is coming, and now is, when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of the God, and those who listen will live.

²⁶ Because just as the Father has life in Himself, just so He gave to the Son also to have life in Himself;

²⁷ furthermore He gave Him the authority to pass judgment, because He is Son of Man.

²⁸ Do not marvel at this, because a time is coming in which all those in the graves will hear His voice

²⁹ and will come out—those who did good things into the resurrection of life, but those who practiced evil things into the resurrection of condemnation.

³⁷ “Further, the Father who sent me has Himself testified about me. You have neither heard His voice nor seen His form at any time.

³⁸ Nor do you have His word abiding in you, because you do not believe on the very one whom He sent.

³⁹ You examine the Scriptures because in them you think you have eternal life, yet they are the very ones that testify about me.

⁴⁰ But you are not willing to come to me so that you may have life.

⁴¹ “I do not accept glory from people.

⁴² Rather I have come to know you, that you do not have the love of God in you.

⁴³ I have come in my Father's name and you do not receive me; should another come in his own name, him you will receive.

⁴⁴ How can you believe, who receive glory from men and do not seek the glory that comes from the only God?

⁴⁵ “Do not suppose that I will accuse you before the Father. Moses is the one who accuses you, on whom you have set your hope.

⁴⁶ Because if you really believed Moses you would believe me, because he wrote about me.

¹³ However, the man who'd been healed didn't know who it was, for Jesus had slipped away into the surrounding crowd.

¹⁴ Later on Jesus found the man in the Temple, and told him, “Look, now you've been healed. So stop sinning or something worse may happen to you.”

¹⁵ The man went and told the Jews it was Jesus who had healed him.

¹⁶ So the Jews started to harass Jesus because he was doing things on the Sabbath.

¹⁷ But Jesus told them, “My Father is still working, and so am I.”

¹⁸ This was why the Jews tried even harder to kill him, for not only did he break the Sabbath but also called God his Father, making himself equal with God.

¹⁹ Jesus explained to them, “I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can only do what he sees the Father doing. Whatever the Father does the Son does as well.

²⁰ For the Father loves the Son, and reveals to him everything he does; and the Father will show to him even more incredible things that will completely amaze you.

²¹ For just as the Father gives life to those he resurrects from the dead, in the same way the Son also gives life to those that he wants.

²² The Father judges no one. He has given to the Son all the authority to judge,

²³ so that everyone may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Anyone who doesn't honor the Son doesn't honor the Father who sent him.

²⁴ I tell you the truth: those who follow what I say and trust the one who sent me have eternal life. They won't be condemned, but have gone from death to life.

²⁵ I tell you the truth: The time is coming—in fact it's here already—when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God, and those who hear will live!

²⁶ Just as the Father has life-giving power in himself, so has he given the Son the same life-giving power in himself.

²⁷ The Father also granted the authority for judgment to him, for he is the Son of man.

²⁸ Don't be surprised at this, for the time is coming when all those in the grave will hear his voice

²⁹ and will rise again: those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of condemnation.

³⁰ I can do nothing by myself. I judge based on what I'm told, and my decision is right, for I'm not doing my own will but the will of the one who sent me.

³¹ If I were to make claims about myself, such claims wouldn't be valid;

³² but someone else gives evidence about me, and I know what he says about me is true.

³³ You asked John about me, and he told the truth,

³⁴ but I don't need any human endorsement. I'm explaining this to you so you can be saved.

³⁵ John was like a brightly-burning light, and you were willing to enjoy his light for a while.

³⁶ But the evidence I'm giving is greater than John's. For I am doing the work that the Father gave me to do,

³⁷ and this is the proof that the Father sent me. The Father who sent me, he himself speaks on my behalf. You've never heard his voice, and you've never seen what he looks like,

³⁸ and you don't accept what he says, because you don't trust in the one he sent.

³⁹ You search the Scriptures because you think that through them you'll gain eternal life. But the evidence they give is in support of me!

⁴⁰ And yet you don't want to come to me so that you might live.

⁴¹ I'm not looking for human approval

⁴² —I know you, and that you don't have God's love in you.

⁴³ For I've come to represent my Father, and you won't accept me; but if someone comes representing themselves, then you accept them!

⁴⁴ How can you trust in me when you look for praise from one another and yet you don't look for praise from the one true God?

⁴⁵ But don't think I will be making accusations about you to the Father. It's Moses who is accusing you, the one in whom you place such confidence.

⁴⁶ For if you really trusted Moses you would trust in me, because he wrote about me.

¹³ And he that was healed, knewe not who it was: for Iesus had conueied himselfe away from the multitude that was in that place.

¹⁴ And after that, Iesus founde him in the Temple, and said vnto him, Beholde, thou art made whole: sinne no more, lest a worse thing come vnto thee.

¹⁵ The man departed and tolde the Iewes that it was Iesus, which had made him whole.

¹⁶ And therefore the Iewes did persecute Iesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the Sabbath day.

¹⁷ But Iesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I worke.

¹⁸ Therefore the Iewes sought the more to kill him: not onely because he had broken the Sabbath: but said also that God was his Father, and made himselfe equall with God.

¹⁹ Then answered Iesus, and said vnto them, Verely, verely I say vnto you, The Sonne can doe nothing of himselfe, saue that he seeth the Father doe: for whatsoeuer things he doth, the same things doeth the Sonne in like maner.

²⁰ For the Father loueth the Sonne, and sheweth him all things, whatsoeuer he himselfe doeth, and he will shewe him greater workes then these, that ye should marueile.

²¹ For likewise as the Father rayseth vp the dead, and quickeneth them, so the Sonne quickeneth whom he will.

²² For the Father iudgeth no man, but hath committed all iudgement vnto the Sonne,

²³ Because that all men shoulde honour the Sonne, as they honour the Father: he that honoureth not the Sonne, the same honoureth not the Father, which hath sent him.

²⁴ Verely, verely I say vnto you, he that heareth my worde, and beleeueth him that sent me, hath euerlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation, but hath passed from death vnto life.

²⁵ Verely, verely I say vnto you, the houre shall come, and now is, when the dead shall heare the voyce of the Sonne of God: and they that heare it, shall liue.

²⁶ For as the Father hath life in himselfe, so likewise hath he giuen to the Sonne to haue life in himselfe,

²⁷ And hath giuen him power also to execute iudgement, in that he is the Sonne of man.

²⁸ Marueile not at this: for the houre shall come, in the which all that are in the graues, shall heare his voyce.

²⁹ And they shall come foorth, that haue done good, vnto ye resurrection of life: but they that haue done euil, vnto the resurrection of condemnation.

³⁰ I can doe nothing of mine owne selfe: as I heare, I iudge: and my iudgement is iust, because I seeke not mine owne will, but the will of the Father who hath sent me.

³¹ If I should beare witnesse of my selfe, my witnesse were not true.

³² There is another that beareth witnesse of me, and I know that the witnesse, which he beareth of me, is true.

³³ Ye sent vnto Iohn, and he bare witnesse vnto the trueth.

³⁴ But I receiue not the record of man: neuerthelesse these things I say, that ye might be saued.

³⁵ He was a burning, and a shining candle: and ye would for a season haue reioyced in his light.

³⁶ But I haue greater witnesse then the witnesse of Iohn: for the workes which the Father hath giuen me to finish, the same workes that I doe, beare witnesse of me, that the Father sent me.

³⁷ And the Father himselfe, which hath sent me, beareth witnesse of me. Ye haue not heard his voyce at any time, neither haue ye seene his shape.

³⁸ And his worde haue you not abiding in you: for whom he hath sent, him ye beleeued not.

³⁹ Searche the Scriptures: for in them ye thinke to haue eternall life, and they are they which testifie of me.

⁴⁰ But ye will not come to me, that ye might haue life.

⁴¹ I receiue not the prayse of men.

⁴² But I know you, that ye haue not the loue of God in you.

⁴³ I am come in my Fathers Name, and ye receiue me not: if another shall come in his owne name, him will ye receiue.

⁴⁴ How can ye beleeue, which receiue honour one of another, and seeke not the honour that commeth of God alone?

⁴⁵ Doe not thinke that I will accuse you to my Father: there is one that accuseth you, euen Moses, in whom ye trust.

⁴⁶ For had ye beleeued Moses, ye would haue beleeued me: for he wrote of me.

¹³ And he that was healed wist not who it was: for Jesus had conveyed himself away, a multitude being in that place.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

¹⁵ The man departed, and told the Jews that it was Jesus, which had made him whole.

¹⁶ And therefore did the Jews persecute Jesus, and sought to slay him, because he had done these things on the sabbath day.

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, My Father worketh hitherto, and I work.

¹⁸ Therefore the Jews sought the more to kill him, because he not only had broken the sabbath, but said also that God was his Father, making himself equal with God.

¹⁹ Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.

²⁰ For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.

²¹ For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth them; even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.

²² For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:

²³ that all men should honour the Son, even as they honour the Father. He that honoureth not the Son honoureth not the Father which hath sent him.

¹⁴ Afterward Jesus found the man in the Temple Courts, and said to him, “You are cured now; do not sin again, or something worse may happen to you.”

¹⁵ The man went away, and told the authorities that it was Jesus who had cured him.

¹⁶ And that was why they began to persecute Jesus — because he did things of this kind on the Sabbath.

¹⁷ But Jesus replied, “My Father works to this very hour, and I work also.”

¹⁸ This made the authorities all the more eager to kill him, because not only was he doing away with the Sabbath, but he actually called God his own Father — putting himself on an equality with God.

¹⁹ So Jesus made this further reply, “In truth I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself; he does only what he sees the Father doing; whatever the Father does, the Son does also.

²⁰ For the Father loves his Son, and shows him everything that he is doing; and he will show him still greater things — so that you will be filled with wonder.

²¹ For, just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom he pleases.

²² The Father himself does not judge any one, but has entrusted the work of judging entirely to his Son,

²³ so that everyone may honour the Son, just as they honour the Father. The person who does not honour the Son fails to honour the Father who sent him.

²⁴ In truth I tell you that the person who listens to my message and believes him who sent me, has eternal life, and does not come under condemnation, but has already passed out of death into life.

²⁵ In truth I tell you that a time is coming, indeed it is already here, when the dead will listen to the voice of the Son of God, and when those who listen will live.

²⁶ For, just as the Father has inherent life within him, so also he has granted to the Son to have inherent life within him;

²⁷ and, because he is Son of Man, he has also given him authority to act as judge.

²⁸ Do not wonder at this; for the time is coming when all who are in their graves will hear his voice,

²⁹ and will come out — those who have done good rising to life, and those who have lived evil lives rising for condemnation.

¹⁶ For this cause the Jews Praisers persecuted Yeshua Salvation, and sought to kill him, because he did these things on the Sabbath ·To cease·.

¹⁷ But Yeshua Salvation answered them, “ 'Avi My Father is still working, so I am working, too.”

¹⁸ For this cause therefore the Jews Praisers sought all the more to kill him, because he not only broke the Sabbath ·To cease·, but also called God 'Aviv ·his Father·, making himself equal with God.

¹⁹ Yeshua Salvation therefore answered them, “Most certainly, I tell you, the Son can do nothing of himself, but what he sees Abba ·Father· doing. For whatever things he does, these the Son also does likewise.

²⁰ For Abba ·Father· has phileo ·affectionate love, high regard· for the Son, and shows him all things that he himself does. He will show him greater works than these, that you may marvel.

³⁸ You don’t have his word living in you; because you don’t believe him whom he sent.

⁴⁴ How can you believe, who receive glory from one another, and you don’t seek the glory that comes from the only God?

⁴⁵ “Don’t think that I will accuse you to Abba Father. There is one who accuses you, even Moses Drawn out, on whom you have set your hope.

⁴⁶ For if you believed Moses Drawn out, you would believe me; for he wrote about me.

¹⁶ And therfore the Iewes dyd persecute Iesus and sought the meanes to slee him because he had done these thinges on the Saboth daye.

¹⁸ Therfore the Iewes sought the moare to kill him not only because he had broken the Saboth: but sayde also that God was his father and made him selfe equall with God.

²⁹ and will come out. Those who have done good to the resurrection of life, and those who have done evil to the resurrection of judgment.

³⁰ I can do nothing from myself. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is righteous because I am not seeking my own will but the will of him who sent me.

³¹ If I should testify about myself, my testimony would not be true.

³² There is another who testifies about me, and I know that the testimony that he gives about me is true.

³³ You have sent to John, and he has testified the truth.

³⁴ But the testimony that I receive is not from man. I say these things that you might be saved.

³⁵ John was a lamp that was burning and shining, and you were willing to rejoice in his light for a while.

³⁶ Yet the testimony that I have is greater than that of John, for the works that the Father has given me to accomplish, the very works that I do, testify about me that the Father has sent me.

³⁷ The Father who sent me has himself testified about me. You have neither heard his voice nor seen his form at any time.

³⁸ You do not have his word remaining in you, for you are not believing in the one whom he has sent.

³⁹ You search the scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life, and these same scriptures testify about me,

⁴⁰ and you are not willing to come to me so that you may have life.

⁴¹ I do not receive praise from men,

⁴² but I know that you do not have the love of God in yourselves.

⁴³ I have come in my Father's name, and you do not receive me. If another should come in his own name, you would receive him.

⁴⁴ How can you believe, you who accept praise from one another but are not seeking the praise that comes from the only God?

⁴⁵ Do not think that I myself will accuse you before the Father. The one who accuses you is Moses, in whom you have put your hope.

⁴⁶ If you believed Moses, you would believe me, because he wrote about me.

¹⁶ Therefore the Jews pursued Jesus, for he did this thing in the sabbath.

¹⁷ And Jesus answered to them, My Father worketh till now, and I work.

¹⁸ Therefore the Jews sought more to slay him, for not only he brake the sabbath, but he said that God was his Father, and made him even to God.

³⁸ And ye have not his word dwelling in you; for ye believe not to him, whom he sent.

³³ Ye sent to John, and he bare witnessing to the truth. (Ye sent messengers to John, and he testified about the truth, or and he testified truthfully.)

³⁴ But I take not witnessing of (any) man; but I say these things, that ye be safe. (But I do not need the testimony of anyone; but I say these things, so that ye can be saved.)

³⁵ He was a lantern burning and shining, or giving light; but ye would (be) glad, or (would have) joy, (or rejoice), at an hour in his light.

³⁶ But I have more witnessing than John, for the works that my Father gave to me to perform them or forsooth the works that my Father gave me that I perform them, those works that I do bear witnessing of me, that the Father sent me. (But I have a greater witness than John, or But I have better testimony than John’s, for the works that my Father gave to me to complete, or to finish, those works that I do testify about me, that the Father sent me.)

³⁷ And the Father that sent me, he bare witnessing of me, (or And the Father who sent me, he testified about me). (But) Neither ye heard ever his voice, neither ye saw his likeness, or (his) form.

³⁸ And ye have not his word dwelling in you; for ye believe not to him, whom he sent.

³⁹ Seek ye the scriptures, in which ye guess to have everlasting life; and those it be, that bear witnessing of me. (Ye study the Scriptures, through which ye hope to gain eternal life; and they do indeed testify about me.)

⁴⁰ And (yet) ye will not come to me, (so) that ye (can) have (eternal) life.

⁴¹ I take not clearness of men; (I do not receive my glory, or my honour, from people;)

⁴² but I have known you, that ye have not the love of God in you.

⁴³ I came in the name of my Father, and ye took not me (or but ye did not receive me). If another come in his own name, ye shall receive him.

⁴⁴ How may ye believe, that receive glory each of (the) other, and ye seek not the glory that is of God alone? (How can ye believe, ye who receive your glory from one another, and seek not the glory that is from God alone?)

⁴⁵ Do not ye guess, that I am to accuse you with the Father; it is Moses that accuseth you, in whom ye hope.

⁴⁶ For if ye believed to Moses, peradventure ye should believe also to me; for he wrote of me. (For if ye believed Moses, perhaps ye would also believe me; for he wrote about me.)

¹³ But he that was maad hool, wiste not who it was. And Jhesus bowide awei fro the puple, that was set in the place.

¹⁴ Aftirward Jhesus foond hym in the temple, and seide to hym, Lo! thou art maad hool; now nyle thou do synne, lest any worse thing bifalle to thee.

¹⁵ Thilke man wente, and telde to the Jewis, that it was Jhesu that made hym hool.

¹⁶ Therfor the Jewis pursueden Jhesu, for he dide this thing in the sabat.

¹⁷ And Jhesus answeride to hem, My fadir worchith til now, and Y worche.

¹⁸ Therfor the Jewis souyten more to sle hym, for not oneli he brak the sabat, but he seide that God was his fadir, and made hym euene to God.

¹⁹ Therfor Jhesus answerde, and seide to hem, Treuli, treuli, Y seye to you, the sone may not of hym silf do ony thing, but that thing that he seeth the fadir doynge; for what euere thingis he doith, the sone doith in lijk maner tho thingis.

²⁰ For the fadir loueth the sone, and schewith to hym alle thingis that he doith; and he schal schewe to hym grettere werkis than these, that ye wondren.

²¹ For as the fadir reisith deed men, and quykeneth, so the sone quykeneth whom he wole.

²² For nethir the fadir iugith ony man, but hath youun ech doom to the sone,

²³ that alle men onoure the sone, as thei onouren the fadir. He that onourith not the sone, onourith not the fadir that sente hym.

²⁴ Treuli, treuli, Y seie to you, that he that herith my word, and bileueth to hym that sente me, hath euerlastynge lijf, and he cometh not in to doom, but passith fro deeth in to lijf.

²⁵ Treuli, treuli Y seie to you, for the our cometh, and now it is, whanne deed men schulen here the vois of `Goddis sone, and thei that heren, schulen lyue.

²⁶ For as the fadir hath lijf in hym silf, so he yaf to the sone, to haue lijf in him silf;

²⁷ and he yaf to hym power to make doom, for he is mannys sone.

²⁸ Nyle ye wondre this, for the our cometh, in which alle men that ben in birielis, schulen here the voice of Goddis sone.

²⁹ And thei that han do goode thingis, schulen go in to ayenrisyng of lijf; but thei that han done yuele thingis, in to ayenrisyng of doom.

³⁰ Y may no thing do of my silf, but as Y here, Y deme, and my doom is iust, for Y seke not my wille, but the wille of the fadir that sente me.

³¹ If Y bere witnessing of my silf, my witnessyng is not trewe;

³² another is that berith witnessyng of me, and Y woot that his witnessyng is trewe, that he berith of me.

³³ Ye senten to Joon, and he bar witnessyng to treuthe.

³⁴ But Y take not witnessyng of man; but Y seie these thingis, that ye be saaf.

³⁵ He was a lanterne brennynge and schynynge; but ye wolden glade at an our in his liyt.

³⁶ But Y haue more witnessyng than Joon, for the werkis that my fadir yaf to me to perfourme hem, thilke werkis that Y do beren witnessyng of me, that the fadir sente me.

³⁷ And the fadir that sente me, he bar witnessyng of me. Nether ye herden euere his vois, nether ye seien his licnesse.

³⁸ And ye han not his word dwellynge in you; for ye byleuen not to hym, whom he sente.

³⁹ Seke ye scripturis, in which ye gessen to haue euerlastynge lijf; and tho it ben, that beren witnessyng of me.

⁴⁰ And ye wolen not come to me, that ye haue lijf.

⁴¹ Y take not clerenesse of men;

⁴² but Y haue knowun you, that ye han not the loue of God in you.

⁴³ Y cam in the name of my fadir, and ye token not me. If another come in his owne name, ye schulen resseyue hym.

⁴⁴ Hou moun ye bileue, that resseyuen glorie ech of othere, and ye seken not the glorie `that is of God aloone?

⁴⁵ Nyle ye gesse, that Y am to accuse you anentis the fadir; it is Moises that accusith you, in whom ye hopen.

⁴⁶ For if ye bileueden to Moises, perauenture ye schulden bileue also to me; for he wroot of me.

¹³ But he that was healed had not known who he is, for Jesus did move away, a multitude being in the place.

¹⁴ After these things, Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said to him, 'Lo, thou hast become whole; sin no more, lest something worse may happen to thee.'

¹⁵ The man went away, and told the Jews that it is Jesus who made him whole,

¹⁶ and because of this were the Jews persecuting Jesus, and seeking to kill him, because these things he was doing on a sabbath.

¹⁷ And Jesus answered them, 'My Father till now doth work, and I work;'

¹⁸ because of this, then, were the Jews seeking the more to kill him, because not only was he breaking the sabbath, but he also called God his own Father, making himself equal to God.

¹⁹ Jesus therefore responded and said to them, 'Verily, verily, I say to you, The Son is not able to do anything of himself, if he may not see the Father doing anything; for whatever things He may do, these also the Son in like manner doth;

²⁰ for the Father doth love the Son, and doth shew to him all things that He himself doth; and greater works than these He will shew him, that ye may wonder.

²¹ 'For, as the Father doth raise the dead, and doth make alive, so also the Son doth make alive whom he willeth;

²² for neither doth the Father judge any one, but all the judgment He hath given to the Son,

²³ that all may honour the Son according as they honour the Father; he who is not honouring the Son, doth not honour the Father who sent him.

²⁴ 'Verily, verily, I say to you — He who is hearing my word, and is believing Him who sent me, hath life age-during, and to judgment he doth not come, but hath passed out of the death to the life.

²⁵ 'Verily, verily, I say to you — There cometh an hour, and it now is, when the dead shall hear the voice of the Son of God, and those having heard shall live;

²⁶ for, as the Father hath life in himself, so He gave also to the Son to have life in himself,

²⁷ and authority He gave him also to do judgment, because he is Son of Man.

²⁸ 'Wonder not at this, because there doth come an hour in which all those in the tombs shall hear his voice,

²⁹ and they shall come forth; those who did the good things to a rising again of life, and those who practised the evil things to a rising again of judgment.

³⁰ 'I am not able of myself to do anything; according as I hear I judge, and my judgment is righteous, because I seek not my own will, but the will of the Father who sent me.

³¹ 'If I testify concerning myself, my testimony is not true;

³² another there is who is testifying concerning me, and I have known that the testimony that he doth testify concerning me is true;

³³ ye have sent unto John, and he hath testified to the truth.

³⁴ 'But I do not receive testimony from man, but these things I say that ye may be saved;

³⁵ he was the burning and shining lamp, and ye did will to be glad, for an hour, in his light.

³⁶ 'But I have the testimony greater than John's, for the works that the Father gave me, that I might finish them, the works themselves that I do, they testify concerning me, that the Father hath sent me.

³⁷ 'And the Father who sent me Himself hath testified concerning me; ye have neither heard His voice at any time, nor His appearance have ye seen;

³⁸ and His word ye have not remaining in you, because whom He sent, him ye do not believe.

³⁹ 'Ye search the Writings, because ye think in them to have life age-during, and these are they that are testifying concerning me;

⁴⁰ and ye do not will to come unto me, that ye may have life;

⁴¹ glory from man I do not receive,

⁴² but I have known you, that the love of God ye have not in yourselves.

⁴³ 'I have come in the name of my Father, and ye do not receive me; if another may come in his own name, him ye will receive;

⁴⁴ how are ye able — ye — to believe, glory from one another receiving, and the glory that is from God alone ye seek not?

⁴⁵ 'Do not think that I will accuse you unto the Father; there is who is accusing you, Moses — in whom ye have hoped;

⁴⁶ for if ye were believing Moses, ye would have been believing me, for he wrote concerning me;
