John 4:9-53 in English

⁹ The Samaritan woman therefore saith unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, who am a Samaritan woman? (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

¹¹ The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: whence then hast thou that living water?

¹² Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his sons, and his cattle?

¹³ Jesus answered and said unto her, Every one that drinketh of this water shall thirst again:

¹⁴ but whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall become in him a well of water springing up unto eternal life.

¹⁵ The woman saith unto him, Sir, give me this water, that I thirst not, neither come all the way hither to draw.

¹⁶ Jesus saith unto her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

¹⁷ The woman answered and said unto him, I have no husband. Jesus saith unto her, Thou saidst well, I have no husband:

¹⁸ for thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband: this hast thou said truly.

¹⁹ The woman saith unto him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

²⁰ Our fathers worshipped in this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

²¹ Jesus saith unto her, Woman, believe me, the hour cometh, when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall ye worship the Father.

²² Ye worship that which ye know not: we worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews.

²³ But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth: for such doth the Father seek to be his worshippers.

²⁴ God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship in spirit and truth.

²⁵ The woman saith unto him, I know that Messiah cometh (he that is called Christ): when he is come, he will declare unto us all things.

²⁶ Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

²⁷ And upon this came his disciples; and they marvelled that he was speaking with a woman; yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why speakest thou with her?

²⁸ So the woman left her waterpot, and went away into the city, and saith to the people,

²⁹ Come, see a man, who told me all things that ever I did: can this be the Christ?

³⁰ They went out of the city, and were coming to him.

³¹ In the mean while the disciples prayed him, saying, Rabbi, eat.

³² But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not.

³³ The disciples therefore said one to another, Hath any man brought him aught to eat?

³⁴ Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to accomplish his work.

³⁵ Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh the harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields, that they are white already unto harvest.

³⁶ He that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal; that he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

³⁷ For herein is the saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

³⁸ I sent you to reap that whereon ye have not labored: others have labored, and ye are entered into their labor.

³⁹ And from that city many of the Samaritans believed on him because of the word of the woman, who testified, He told me all things that ever I did.

⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans came unto him, they besought him to abide with them: and he abode there two days.

⁴¹ And many more believed because of his word;

⁴² and they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy speaking: for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.

⁴³ And after the two days he went forth from thence into Galilee.

⁴⁴ For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honor in his own country.

⁴⁵ So when he came into Galilee, the Galilæans received him, having seen all the things that he did in Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

⁴⁶ He came therefore again unto Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

⁴⁷ When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judæa into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.

⁴⁸ Jesus therefore said unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will in no wise believe.

⁴⁹ The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

⁵⁰ Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. The man believed the word that Jesus spake unto him, and he went his way.

⁵¹ And as he was now going down, his servants met him, saying, that his son lived.

⁵² So he inquired of them the hour when he began to amend. They said therefore unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.

⁵³ So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

⁹ The Samaritan woman therefore asked Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask me for a drink, since I’m a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have nothing to do with Samaritans.)

¹⁰ Jesus answered her, “If you knew God’s gift, and who it is who says to you, ‘Please give me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water.”

¹¹ The woman said, “Sir, you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where could you get this living water from?

¹² Are You greater than our forefather Jacob, who gave us this well and who used to drink from it himself, as did also his sons and his flocks and herds?”

¹³ Jesus answered her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will get thirsty again,

¹⁴ but whoever drinks the water that I will give will never, ever get thirsty. The water that I will give will become in that person a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.”

¹⁵ The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I won’t get thirsty and have to keep coming all the way here to draw water.”

¹⁶ Jesus told her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”

¹⁷ The woman answered, “I have no husband.” Jesus told her, “You are right in saying, ‘I have no husband,’

¹⁸ for you have had five husbands, and the one you have now isn’t your husband. What you have said is quite true.”

¹⁹ The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.

²⁰ Our ancestors worshipped on this mountain, but you Jews say that the place where we must worship is in Jerusalem.”

²¹ Jesus told her, “Woman, believe me, a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem.

²² You Samaritans worship what you don’t know. We worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.

²³ A time is coming, and has now come, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers that the Father seeks.

²⁴ God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

²⁵ The woman said to Him, “I know that the Messiah (who is called Christ) is coming. When He comes, He will explain everything to us.”

²⁶ Jesus told her, “I who speak to you am He.”

²⁷ Just then Jesus’ disciples returned. They were surprised to find him talking with a woman, but no one asked, “What do you want?” or “Why are you talking with her?”

²⁸ Then, leaving her water jar, the woman went back to the town and began telling the people,

²⁹ “Come, see a man who told me everything that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”

³⁰ They went out of the city, and started to go to Him.

³¹ Meanwhile, the disciples urged Him, saying “Rabbi, eat something.”

³² He told them, “I have food to eat that you don’t know about.”

³³ So the disciples asked one another, “Nobody brought Him anything to eat, did they?”

³⁴ Jesus told them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me, and to accomplish His work.

³⁵ Don’t you say, ‘It’s still four months until the harvest’? Look, I tell you, lift up your eyes, and look at the fields! They are ripe for harvest.

³⁶ He who harvests is already receiving wages, and is gathering fruit for eternal life, so that he who plants and he who harvests may rejoice together.

³⁷ Thus the saying ‘One plants and another harvests’ is true.

³⁸ I sent you to harvest that for which you didn’t labor. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

³⁹ Many Samaritans from that town believed in Jesus because of the woman’s testimony, “He told me everything that I ever did.”

⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans arrived, they asked Him to stay with them, and He stayed there two days.

⁴¹ Many more believed because of His words.

⁴² They told the woman, “It’s no longer just because of what you said that we believe, for we have heard for ourselves, and we know that this is truly the Savior of the world, the Christ.”

⁴³ After the two days, He departed from there and went to Galilee,

⁴⁴ for Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.

⁴⁵ When He arrived in Galilee, the Galileans welcomed Him. They had seen all that He had done in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, for they had been there, too.

⁴⁶ Therefore He came back to Cana of Galilee, where He had made the water wine. There was a certain royal official, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

⁴⁷ When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and begged Him to come down and heal his son, who was at the point of death.

⁴⁸ Jesus told him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will never believe.”

⁴⁹ The royal official said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!”

⁵⁰ Jesus told him, “Go in peace. Your son lives.” So the man believed the words that Jesus spoke to him, and he went his way.

⁵¹ As he was still going down the road, his servants met him, saying that his son was living.

⁵² So he asked them the hour when he began to recover, and they told him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour, the fever left him.”

⁵³ The father realized that it was at that hour that Jesus told him, “Your son lives,” and he himself believed, along with his whole household.

⁹ Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.

²² Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews.

²³ But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.

²⁴ God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

²⁵ The woman saith unto him, I know that Messias cometh, which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell us all things.

²⁶ Jesus saith unto her, I that speak unto thee am he.

²⁷ And upon this came his disciples, and marvelled that he talked with the woman: yet no man said, What seekest thou? or, Why talkest thou with her?

²⁸ The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men,

²⁹ Come, see a man, which told me all things that ever I did: is not this the Christ?

³⁰ Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

³¹ In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.

³² But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

³³ Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?

³⁴ Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

³⁵ Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

³⁷ And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

³⁹ And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.

⁴¹ And many more believed because of his own word;

⁴² And said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

⁴³ Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.

⁴⁴ For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

⁴⁵ Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galilæans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

⁹ so the woman said to him, “You are a Jew, and I am from Samaria. Furthermore, I am a woman. So ◄ I am surprised that you are asking me for a drink of water!/how is it that you are asking me for a drink of water?► RHQ”

¹⁰ Jesus replied to her, “If you (sg) knew what God wanted to give you, and if you knew who I am, the one who is asking you for a drink, you would have asked me, and I would have given you water that gives life.”

¹¹ She thought he was talking about ordinary water. So she said to him, “Sir, you do not have a bucket or a rope with which to get water from the well, and the well is deep. So since you cannot get water from this well, where can you get that life-giving water?

¹² Our ancestor Jacob left us this well. He drank water from it, and there was enough good water so that his sons and his flocks of sheep and goats drank from it also. Do you claim that you are greater than Jacob, and because of that you can give us life-giving water?”

¹³ Jesus replied to her, “Everyone who drinks water from this well will later become thirsty again.

¹⁴ But those who drink the water that I will give them will never be thirsty again. On the contrary, the water that I give them will become in their inner beings like a spring of water that will enable them to have eternal life.”

¹⁵ The woman did not understand that Jesus was speaking figuratively about something that would sustain her spiritually. So she said to him, “Sir, give me that kind of water so that I will not get thirsty again, and so that I will not have to keep returning here to get water!”

¹⁶ Jesus knew that she did not understand, but he wanted to show her by his God-given knowledge of her personal life that because he was the Messiah he could supply her spiritual need. So he said to her, “Woman, go and call your husband, and bring him here!”

¹⁷ She replied, “I do not have a husband!” Jesus said to her, “You said that you do not have a husband, and that is true.

¹⁸ It is also true that you have had five husbands one by one. And the man you are living with now is not your husband! What you have said is very true.”

¹⁹ The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive you must be a prophet because you are able to know people's secrets.

²⁰ But let me ask you a different question: Our ancestors worshipped God here on Gerizim mountain, but you Jews say that Jerusalem is the place where we must worship God. So who is right?”

²¹ Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me when I say that there will be a time when it will not matter whether you worship God our Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem or somewhere else.

²² You people from Samaria do not know the one you are worshipping. But we (exc) Jews know whom we worship, because it is from us Jews that God has sent the one who will save people from the guilt of their sins.

²³ However, there will be a time when those who genuinely worship God will worship him as God's Spirit directs and according to God's truth. In fact, that time is now. Those are the kind of worshipers my Father seeks.

²⁴ God is a spiritual being. So it is necessary that those who worship him must worship him as his Spirit directs and according to God's truth.”

²⁵ The woman said to him, “I know that the Messiah is coming. When he comes, he will tell us everything we need to know.” ('Messiah❜ and ❛Christ❜ both mean ❛God's promised king❜.)

²⁶ Jesus said to her, “I, the one speaking to you, am the Messiah!”

²⁷ Just then we disciples returned from town. Since it was contrary to our custom for Jewish religious teachers to converse with a woman they did not know, we were surprised that he was talking to a woman. However, none of us asked her, “What do you want?” and none of us asked him, “Why are you talking with her?”

²⁸ The woman left her water jar there and went into the town. She said to the people there,

²⁹ “Come and see a man who was able to tell me all about my past life HYP, even though I never met him before Could this man be the Messiah?”

³⁰ So many people left the town and started going to where Jesus was.

³¹ Meanwhile, we disciples were urging him, “Teacher, eat some of the food we brought!”

³² But he said to us, “I have food to eat that you do not know anything about!”

³³ So we started saying to each other, “◄Surely no one has brought him any food when we were not here!/Has anyone brought him any food when we were not here?► RHQ”

³⁴ Jesus said to us, “Doing what my Father who sent me wants me to do and finishing the work he gave me to do is ◄ what sustains me/like my food► MET.

³⁵ At this time of the year you are saying (OR, your ancestors used to say), ‘There are four months left before we harvest the crops.’ But I say to you, look carefully at the non-Jewish people around here. God says, ‘They are ready to accept my message MET, like crops in fields that are ready for people to harvest.

³⁶ If you help them to accept my message, I will reward you MET, as an owner of a field pays those who harvest the crops. Because of your work, people will gain eternal life.’ I have been telling people God's message. That is like MET a man who plants seeds. You will help people to accept my message. That will be like MET harvesting crops. When that happens, both you and I will rejoice.

³⁷ As a result, this saying will become true: One person plants seeds, but others harvest the crops.

³⁸ I am sending you to enable people to accept my message, but you will not be the first ones who tell them God's message. Others previously worked hard to tell people God's message, and now you will be harvesting the results of their work.”

³⁹ Many of the Samaria district people who lived in that town believed that Jesus was the Messiah because they heard what that woman said about Jesus, “That man was able to tell me all about my past life HYP!”

⁴⁰ So when those people of Samaria came to Jesus, they urged him to stay with them. So we stayed there two days.

⁴¹ Many more of those people believed ◄ in Jesus/that he was the Messiah► because of what he said.

⁴² They told the woman, “We believe in Jesus now , but not just because of what you told us. Now we have heard him ourselves. And now we know that this man truly is the one who can save people MTY from the guilt of their sins .”

⁴³ Jesus had said previously that people did not honor prophets like himself when they tried to teach people in their own home area. So, two days later, Jesus and we disciples left that area and went to his own area in Galilee district, because he knew that people there would not think very highly of him, and as a result the Jewish leaders would not be jealous.

⁴⁵ However, when we arrived in Galilee district, many of the people there welcomed him, because they had been in Jerusalem during the Passover celebration and had seen all the things he did there.

⁴⁶ Jesus went again to Cana in Galilee district. That was where he previously turned water into wine. There was one of the king's officials who lived in Capernaum, whose son was very sick.

⁴⁷ When that man heard others say that Jesus had returned to Galilee district from Judea district, he went to Jesus in Cana and pleaded with him, “Please come down to Capernaum and heal my son, who is about to die!”

⁴⁸ Jesus said to him, “You people will believe my message only if you see me perform more miracles!”

⁴⁹ But the official said to him, “Sir, ◄ I believe in you/I believe that you came from God►. So please come down to my home before my son dies!”

⁵⁰ Jesus said to him, “Then you may go home. Your son ◄will live/not die►!” The man believed what Jesus said, and left.

⁵¹ The next day while he was on the way home, his servants met him. They told him, “Your child is going to live!”

⁵² He asked them, “At what time did my son start to become well?” They said to him, “His fever ceased yesterday afternoon at one o'clock.”

⁵³ Then the boy's father realized that this was the time Jesus told him, “Your son will ◄live/not die►.” So he and all the people in his house believed that Jesus was the Messiah.

⁹ The Samaritan woman therefore said to him, “How is it that you, being a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.)

¹⁰ Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”

¹¹ The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. So where do you get that living water?

¹² Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his children and his livestock?”

¹³ Jesus answered her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again,

¹⁴ but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

¹⁵ The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I don’t get thirsty, neither come all the way here to draw.”

¹⁶ Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”

¹⁷ The woman answered, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You said well, ‘I have no husband,’

¹⁸ for you have had five husbands; and he whom you now have is not your husband. This you have said truly.”

¹⁹ The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.

²⁰ Our fathers worshiped in this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.”

²¹ Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

²² You worship that which you don’t know. We worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews.

²³ But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such to be his worshipers.

²⁴ God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

²⁵ The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming, he who is called Christ. When he has come, he will declare to us all things.”

²⁶ Jesus said to her, “I am he, the one who speaks to you.”

²⁷ Just then, his disciples came. They marveled that he was speaking with a woman; yet no one said, “What are you looking for?” or, “Why do you speak with her?”

²⁸ So the woman left her water pot, went away into the city, and said to the people,

²⁹ “Come, see a man who told me everything that I have done. Can this be the Christ?”

³⁰ They went out of the city, and were coming to him.

³¹ In the meanwhile, the disciples urged him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”

³² But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you don’t know about.”

³³ The disciples therefore said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?”

³⁴ Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.

³⁵ Don’t you say, ‘There are yet four months until the harvest?’ Behold, I tell you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, that they are white for harvest already.

³⁶ He who reaps receives wages and gathers fruit to eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.

³⁷ For in this the saying is true, ‘One sows, and another reaps.’

³⁸ I sent you to reap that for which you haven’t labored. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

³⁹ From that city many of the Samaritans believed in him because of the word of the woman, who testified, “He told me everything that I have done.”

⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans came to him, they begged him to stay with them. He stayed there two days.

⁴¹ Many more believed because of his word.

⁴² They said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of your speaking; for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world.”

⁴³ After the two days he went out from there and went into Galilee.

⁴⁴ For Jesus himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.

⁴⁵ So when he came into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did in Jerusalem at the feast, for they also went to the feast.

⁴⁶ Jesus came therefore again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water into wine. There was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum.

⁴⁷ When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to him and begged him that he would come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.

⁴⁸ Jesus therefore said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders, you will in no way believe.”

⁴⁹ The nobleman said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”

⁹ The woman of Samaria said to him, Why do you, a Jew, make a request for water to me, a woman of Samaria? She said this because Jews have nothing to do with the people of Samaria.

¹⁰ In answer Jesus said, If you had knowledge of what God gives freely and who it is who says to you, Give me water, you would make your prayer to him, and he would give you living water.

¹¹ The woman said to him, Sir, you have no vessel and the fountain is deep; from where will you get the living water?

¹² Are you greater than our father Jacob who gave us the fountain and took the water of it himself, with his children and his cattle?

¹³ Jesus said to her, Everyone who takes this water will be in need of it again:

¹⁴ But whoever takes the water I give him will never be in need of drink again; for the water I give him will become in him a fountain of eternal life.

¹⁵ The woman said to him, Sir, give me this water, so that I may not be in need again of drink and will not have to come all this way for it.

¹⁶ Jesus said to her, Go, get your husband and come back here with him.

¹⁷ In answer, the woman said, I have no husband. Jesus said to her, You have said rightly, I have no husband:

¹⁸ You have had five husbands, and the man you have now is not your husband: that was truly said.

¹⁹ The woman said to him, Sir, I see that you are a prophet.

²⁰ Our fathers gave worship on this mountain, but you Jews say that the right place for worship is in Jerusalem.

²¹ Jesus said to her, Woman, take my word for this; the time is coming when you will not give worship to the Father on this mountain or in Jerusalem.

²² You give worship, but without knowledge of what you are worshipping: we give worship to what we have knowledge of: for salvation comes from the Jews.

²³ But the time is coming, and is even now here, when the true worshippers will give worship to the Father in the true way of the spirit, for these are the worshippers desired by the Father.

²⁴ God is Spirit: then let his worshippers give him worship in the true way of the spirit.

²⁵ The woman said to him, I am certain that the Messiah, who is named Christ, is coming; when he comes he will make all things clear to us.

²⁶ Jesus said to her, I, who am talking to you, am he.

²⁷ At that point the disciples came back, and they were surprised to see him talking to a woman; but not one of them said to him, What is your purpose? or, Why are you talking to her?

²⁸ Then the woman put down her water-pot and went into the town, and said to the people,

²⁹ Come and see a man who has been talking to me of everything I ever did! Is it possible that this is the Christ?

³⁰ So they went out of the town and came to him.

³¹ While this was taking place, the disciples were saying to Jesus, Master, take some food.

³² But he said to them, I have food of which you have no knowledge.

³³ So the disciples said one to another, Did anyone give him food?

³⁴ Jesus said, My food is to do the pleasure of him who sent me and to make his work complete.

³⁵ You would say, Four months from now is the time of the grain-cutting. Take a look, I say to you, at the fields; they are even now white for cutting.

³⁶ He who does the cutting now has his reward; he is getting together fruit for eternal life, so that he who did the planting and he who gets in the grain may have joy together.

³⁷ In this the saying is a true one, One does the planting, and another gets in the grain.

³⁸ I sent you to get in grain which you had no hand in planting: other men did that work, and you take the reward.

³⁹ Now a number of the people of that town had faith in him because of the woman's witness: He has been talking to me of everything I ever did.

⁴⁰ So when the people came to him they made request to him to be among them for a time, and he was there two days.

⁴¹ And a great number more of them came to have faith in him because of what he himself said.

⁴² And they said to the woman, Now we have faith, but not because of your story: we ourselves have given ear to his words, and we are certain that he is truly the Saviour of the world.

⁴³ And after the two days he went on from there into Galilee.

⁴⁴ For Jesus himself said that a prophet has no honour in the country of his birth.

⁴⁵ So when he came into Galilee, the Galilaeans took him to their hearts because of the things which they had seen him do in Jerusalem at the feast — they themselves having been there at the feast.

⁴⁶ So he came to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. And there was a certain man of high position whose son was ill at Capernaum.

⁴⁷ When it came to his ears that Jesus had come from Judaea into Galilee, he went to him and made a request that he would come down to his son, who was near to death, and make him well.

⁴⁸ Then Jesus said to him, You will not have faith if you do not see signs and wonders.

⁴⁹ The man said, Sir, come down before my boy is dead.

⁵⁰ And Jesus said, Go in peace; your son is living. The man had faith in the word which Jesus said to him and went away.

⁵¹ And while he was going down, his servants came to him and said, Your boy is living.

⁵² So he put a question to them as to the hour when he became better; and they said to him, The disease went from him yesterday at the seventh hour.

⁵³ It was clear then to the father that this was the very time at which Jesus said to him, Your son is living. And he had faith in Jesus, he and all his family.

⁴⁹ The courtier says to him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

⁵⁰ Jesus says to him, Go, thy son lives. And the man believed the word which Jesus said to him, and went his way.

⁵¹ But already, as he was going down, his servants met him and brought him word saying, Thy child lives.

¹⁰ Jesus answered, and said to her: If thou didst know the gift of God, and who he is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou perhaps wouldst have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

¹¹ The woman saith to him: Sir, thou hast nothing wherein to draw, and the well is deep; from whence then hast thou living water?

²³ But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true adorers shall adore the Father in spirit and in truth. For the Father also seeketh such to adore him.

²⁴ God is a spirit; and they that adore him, must adore him in spirit and in truth.

²⁵ The woman saith to him: I know that the Messias cometh (who is called Christ). Therefore, when he is come, he will tell us all things.

²⁶ Jesus saith to her: I am he, who am speaking with thee.

²⁷ And immediately his disciples came; and they wondered that he talked with the woman. Yet no man said: What seekest thou? or, why talkest thou with her?

²⁸ The woman therefore left her waterpot, and went her way into the city, and saith to the men there:

²⁹ Come, and see a man who has told me all things whatsoever I have done. Is not he the Christ?

³⁰ They went therefore out of the city, and came unto him.

³¹ In the mean time the disciples prayed him, saying: Rabbi, eat.

³² But he said to them: I have meat to eat, which you know not.

³³ The disciples therefore said one to another: Hath any man brought him to eat?

³⁴ Jesus saith to them: My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, that I may perfect his work.

³⁵ Do you not say, There are yet four months, and then the harvest cometh? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes, and see the countries; for they are white already to harvest.

³⁶ And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life everlasting: that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth, may rejoice together.

³⁷ For in this is the saying true: That it is one man that soweth, and it is another that reapeth.

³⁸ I have sent you to reap that in which you did not labour: others have laboured, and you have entered into their labours.

³⁹ Now of that city many of the Samaritans believed in him, for the word of the woman giving testimony: He told me all things whatsoever I have done.

⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans were come to him, they desired that he would tarry there. And he abode there two days.

⁴¹ And many more believed in him because of his own word.

⁴² And they said to the woman: We now believe, not for thy saying: for we ourselves have heard him, and know that this is indeed the Saviour of the world.

⁴³ Now after two days, he departed thence, and went into Galilee.

⁴⁴ For Jesus himself gave testimony that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

⁴⁵ And when he was come into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things he had done at Jerusalem on the festival day; for they also went to the festival day.

⁴⁶ He came again therefore into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain ruler, whose son was sick at Capharnaum.

⁴⁷ He having heard that Jesus was come from Judea into Galilee, went to him, and prayed him to come down, and heal his son; for he was at the point of death.

⁴⁸ Jesus therefore said to him: Unless you see signs and wonders, you believe not.

⁴⁹ The ruler saith to him: Lord, come down before that my son die.

⁵⁰ Jesus saith to him: Go thy way; thy son liveth. The man believed the word which Jesus said to him, and went his way.

⁵¹ And as he was going down, his servants met him; and they brought word, saying, that his son lived.

⁵² He asked therefore of them the hour wherein he grew better. And they said to him: Yesterday, at the seventh hour, the fever left him.

⁵³ The father therefore knew, that it was at the same hour that Jesus said to him, Thy son liveth; and himself believed, and his whole house.

⁹ Then the woman of Samaria said to Him, “How is it that You, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, a Samaritan woman?” For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to her, “If you had known the gift of God, and who it is that says to you, ‘Give Me a drink,’ you would have asked Him, and He would have given to you living water.”

¹¹ The woman said to Him, “Sir, You have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Where then do You get that living water?

¹² Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?”

¹³ Jesus answered and said to her, “Whoever drinks of this water will thirst again,

¹⁴ but whoever drinks of the water which I shall give him will by no means ever thirst again. But the water which I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into eternal life.”

¹⁵ The woman said to Him, “Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”

¹⁶ Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”

¹⁷ The woman answered and said, “I have no husband.” Jesus said to her, “You have said well, ‘I have no husband,’

¹⁸ for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in this you have said truly.”

¹⁹ The woman said to Him, “Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet.

²⁰ Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where it is necessary to worship.”

²¹ Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe Me, the hour is coming when you will neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.

²² You worship what you do not know; we Jews worship what we know, because salvation is of the Jews.

²³ But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.

²⁴ God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

²⁵ The woman said to Him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (who is called Christ). “When He comes, He will proclaim to us all things.”

²⁶ Jesus said to her, “I am He, the One speaking to you.”

²⁷ And at this point His disciples came, and they marveled that He was speaking with a woman; however no one said, “What do You seek?” or, “Why are You speaking with her?”

²⁸ The woman then left her water jar, went her way into the city, and said to the men,

²⁹ “Come, see a Man who told me everything I ever did. Could this be the Christ?”

³⁰ They went out of the city and were coming to Him.

³¹ But in the meantime the disciples urged Him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”

³² But He said to them, “I have food to eat of which you do not know.”

³³ Therefore the disciples were saying to one another, “Has anyone brought Him something to eat?”

³⁴ Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.

³⁵ Do you not say, ‘There are still four months and the harvest comes’? Behold, I say to you, lift up your eyes and see the fields, for they are already white for harvest!

³⁶ And he who reaps receives wages, and gathers fruit unto eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.

⁴² Then they were saying to the woman, “No longer because of your speech do we believe, for we ourselves have heard and know that this is truly the Christ, the Savior of the world.”

⁴³ Now after the two days He went out from there and went to Galilee.

⁴⁴ For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.

⁴⁵ Therefore when He came into Galilee, the Galileans received Him, having seen all the things which He did in Jerusalem at the feast; for they also went to the feast.

⁴⁶ Then Jesus came again to Cana of Galilee where He had turned the water into wine. And there was a certain nobleman whose son was sick in Capernaum.

⁴⁷ When he heard that Jesus had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to Him and asked Him that He might come down and heal his son, for he was about to die.

⁴⁸ Then Jesus said to him, “Unless you people see signs and wonders, you will by no means believe.”

⁴⁹ The nobleman said to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!”

⁵⁰ Jesus said to him, “Go; your son lives.” And the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and went away.

⁵¹ And already as he was going, his servants met him and reported, saying, “Your child lives!”

⁵² Then he inquired from them the hour at which he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”

⁵³ Therefore the father knew that it was at the same hour in which Jesus said to him, “Your son lives.” And he himself believed, and his whole household.

⁹ So the Samaritan woman says to Him, “How can you, being a Jew, ask a drink from me, being a Samaritan woman?” (for Jews do not associate with Samaritans).

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to her: “If you knew the gift of God, and who is the one saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

¹¹ The woman says to Him: “Sir, you don't even have a bucket, and the well is deep; so where do you get this living water?

¹² You aren't greater than our father Jacob, are you? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.”

¹³ Jesus answered and said to her: “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again,

¹⁴ but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never ever thirst; rather, the water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water, welling up into eternal life.”

¹⁵ The woman says to Him, “Sir, give me this water! so that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”

¹⁶ Jesus says to her, “Go, call your husband and come back here.”

¹⁷ The woman answered and said, “I don't have a husband.” Jesus says to her: “You stated correctly that you do not have a husband,

¹⁸ because you have had five husbands, and the one you have now is no husband of yours. You spoke the truth there!”

¹⁹ The woman says to Him: “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.

²⁰ Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, while you (pl) say that the place where one must worship is in Jerusalem.”

²¹ Jesus says to her: “Woman, believe me, a time is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

²² You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we Jews worship what we do know, because the salvation is from the Jews.

²³ But the time is coming, in fact now is, when the genuine worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth. Really, because the Father is looking for such people to worship Him.

²⁴ God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

²⁵ The woman says to Him: “I know that Messiah is coming (who is called Christ). When He comes He will explain everything to us.”

²⁶ Jesus says to her, “I am He, the one who is talking with you!”

²⁷ At that point His disciples arrived, and they were amazed that He was talking with a woman; yet no one said, “What do you want?” or “Why are You talking with her?”

²⁸ So the woman left her water jar, went her way into the town, and says to the men:

²⁹ “Come see a man who told me everything I ever did! Could this be the Messiah?”

³⁰ So out they went from the town and started toward Him.

³¹ Now in the meantime the disciples were urging Him saying, “Rabbi, eat.”

³² But He said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”

³³ So the disciples started saying to one another, “Could someone have brought Him something to eat?”

³⁴ Jesus says to them: “My food is to do the will of Him who sent me and to complete His work.

³⁵ Do you not say, ‘There are four months before the harvest comes?’ Well I say, Look! Lift your eyes and observe the fields; they are white for harvest already!

³⁶ Now he who reaps receives pay and gathers fruit into eternal life, so that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.

³⁷ Now the saying, ‘One is the sower and another the reaper,’ is true in this:

³⁸ I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored and you have entered into their labors.”

³⁹ Now many of the Samaritans from that city believed into Him because of the word of the woman, testifying that “He told me everything I ever did!”

⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans came to Him they urged Him to stay with them; and He did stay there two days.

⁴¹ Many more believed through His own word,

⁴² and they kept saying to the woman, “It is not just because of what you said that we believe, because we ourselves have heard Him, and we know that this One is truly the Messiah, the Savior of the world!”

⁴³ So after the two days He departed from there and went on into Galilee.

⁴⁴ (For Jesus Himself testified that a prophet does not have honor in his own country.)

⁴⁹ The official says to Him, “Sir, come down before my child dies!”

⁵⁰ Jesus says to him, “Go; your son lives.” Well the man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him and off he went.

⁵¹ Now while he was still going down his slaves met him and reported saying, “Your son lives!”

⁵² So he inquired of them the hour in which he got better. And they said to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”

⁵³ So the father knew that it was at the exact hour in which Jesus told him, “Your son lives.” Both he himself and his whole household believed.

⁹ “You're a Jew, and I'm a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” the woman replied, for Jews don't associate with Samaritans.

¹⁰ Jesus answered her, “If you only recognized God's gift, and who is asking you, ‘Please could you give me a drink?’ you would have asked him and he would have given you the water of life.”

¹¹ “Sir, you don't have a bucket, and the well is deep. Where are you going to get the water of life from?” she replied.

¹² “Our father Jacob gave us the well. He drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock. Are you greater than he?”

¹³ Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks water from this well will become thirsty again.

¹⁴ But those who drink the water I give won't ever be thirsty again. The water I give becomes a bubbling spring of water inside them, bringing them eternal life.”

¹⁵ “Sir,” replied the woman, “Please give me this water so I won't be thirsty, and I won't have to come here to fetch water!”

¹⁶ “Go and call your husband, and come back here,” Jesus told her.

¹⁷ “I don't have a husband,” the woman answered. “You're right in saying you don't have a husband,” Jesus told her.

¹⁸ “You've had five husbands, and the one you're living with now is not your husband. So what you say is true!”

¹⁹ “I can see you're a prophet, sir,” the woman replied.

²⁰ “Tell me this: our ancestors worshiped here on this mountain, but you say that Jerusalem is where we must worship.”

²¹ Jesus replied, “Believe me the time is coming when you won't worship the Father either on this mountain or in Jerusalem.

²² You really don't know the God you're worshiping, while we worship the God we know, for salvation comes from the Jews.

²³ But the time is coming—and in fact it's here already—when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth, for these are the kind of worshipers the Father wants.

²⁴ God is Spirit, so worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.”

²⁵ The woman said, “Well, I know that the Messiah is coming,” (the one who is called Christ). “When he comes he will explain it all to us.”

²⁶ Jesus replied, “I AM—the one who is speaking to you.”

²⁷ Just then the disciples returned. They were shocked that he was talking to a woman, but none of them asked “What are you doing?” or “Why are you talking with her?”

²⁸ The woman left her water jar behind and ran back to the town, telling the people,

²⁹ “Come and meet a man who told me everything I ever did! Could this be the Messiah?”

³⁰ So they went out of the town to go and see him.

³¹ Meanwhile Jesus' disciples were urging him, “Rabbi, please eat something!”

³² But Jesus replied, “I have food to eat that you know nothing about.”

³³ “Did someone bring him food?” the disciples asked one another.

³⁴ Jesus told them, “My food is to do the will of the one who sent me, and to complete his work.

³⁵ Don't you have a saying, ‘four more months until harvest?’ Open your eyes and look around! The crops in the fields are ripe, ready for harvest.

³⁶ The reaper is being paid and harvesting a crop for eternal life so that both the sower and the reaper can celebrate.

³⁷ So the proverb ‘one sows, another reaps,’ is true.

³⁸ I sent you to reap what you didn't work for. Others did the hard work and you have reaped the benefits of what they did.”

³⁹ Many Samaritans from that town trusted in him because of what the woman said: “He told me everything I ever did.”

⁴⁰ So when they came to see him they pleaded with him to stay with them. He stayed for two days,

⁴¹ and because of what he told them many more trusted in him.

⁴² They said to the woman, “Now our trust in him isn't just because of what you told us but because we have heard him for ourselves. We're convinced that he really is the Savior of the world.”

⁴³ After the two days he continued on to Galilee.

⁴⁴ Jesus himself had made the comment that a prophet is not respected in his own country.

⁴⁵ But when he arrived in Galilee, the people welcomed him, because they had also been at the Passover feast and had seen everything he'd done in Jerusalem.

⁴⁶ He visited Cana in Galilee again, where he had turned water into wine. Nearby in the town of Capernaum lived a royal official whose son was very sick.

⁴⁷ When he heard that Jesus had returned from Judea to Galilee, he went to Jesus and begged him to come and heal his son who was close to death.

⁴⁸ “Unless you see signs and wonders you people really won't trust me,” said Jesus.

⁴⁹ “Lord, just come before my child dies,” the official pleaded.

⁵⁰ “Go on home,” Jesus told him. “Your son will live!” The man trusted what Jesus told him and left for home.

⁵¹ While he was on his way, his servants met him with the news that his son was alive and recovering.

⁵² He asked them what time it was when his son began to get better. “Yesterday at one p.m. the fever left him,” they told him.

⁵³ Then the father realized this was the precise time when Jesus had told him, “Your son will live!” So he and everyone in his household trusted in Jesus.

⁹ Then sayde the woman of Samaria vnto him, Howe is it, that thou being a Iewe, askest drinke of me, which am a woman of Samaria? For the Iewes meddle not with the Samaritans.

¹⁰ Iesus answered and saide vnto her, If thou knewest that gift of God, and who it is that saieth to thee, Giue mee drinke, thou wouldest haue asked of him, and hee woulde haue giuen thee, water of life.

¹¹ The woman saide vnto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to drawe with, and the well is deepe: from whence then hast thou that water of life?

¹² Art thou greater then our father Iacob, which gaue vs the well, and hee himselfe dranke thereof, and his sonnes, and his cattell?

¹³ Iesus answered, and said vnto her, Whosoeuer drinketh of this water, shall thirst againe:

¹⁴ But whosoeuer drinketh of the water that I shall giue him, shall neuer be more a thirst: but the water that I shall giue him, shalbe in him a well of water, springing vp into euerlasting life.

¹⁵ The woman said vnto him, Syr, giue me of that water, that I may not thirst, neither come hither to drawe.

¹⁶ Iesus said vnto her, Go, call thine husband, and come hither.

¹⁷ The woman answered, and saide, I haue no husband. Iesus said vnto her, Thou hast well said, I haue no husband.

¹⁸ For thou hast had fiue husbands, and he whom thou nowe hast, is not thine husband: that saidest thou truely.

¹⁹ The woman saide vnto him, Sir, I see that thou art a Prophet.

²⁰ Our fathers worshipped in this mountaine, and ye say, that in Ierusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

²¹ Iesus saide vnto her, Woman, beleeue me, the houre commeth, when ye shall neither in this mountaine, nor at Hierusalem worship ye Father.

²² Ye worship that which ye knowe not: we worship that which we knowe: for saluation is of the Iewes.

²³ But the houre commeth, and nowe is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit, and trueth: for the Father requireth euen such to worship him.

²⁴ God is a Spirite, and they that worship him, must worship him in spirit and trueth.

²⁵ The woman said vnto him, I knowe well that Messias shall come which is called Christ: when he is come, he will tell vs all things.

²⁶ Iesus said vnto her, I am he, that speake vnto thee.

²⁷ And vpon that, came his disciples, and marueiled that he talked with a woman: yet no man said vnto him, What askest thou? or why talkest thou with her?

²⁸ The woman then left her waterpot, and went her way into the citie, and said to the men,

²⁹ Come, see a man which hath tolde me all things that euer I did: is not he that Christ?

³⁰ Then they went out of the citie, and came vnto him.

³¹ In the meane while, the disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eate.

³² But he said vnto them, I haue meate to eate that ye know not of.

³³ Then said ye disciples betweene themselues, Hath any man brought him meate?

³⁴ Iesus saide vnto them, My meate is that I may doe the will of him that sent me, and finish his worke.

³⁵ Say not ye, There are yet foure moneths, and then commeth haruest? Beholde, I say vnto you, Lift vp your eyes, and looke on the regions: for they are white alreadie vnto haruest.

³⁶ And he that reapeth, receiueth rewarde, and gathereth fruite vnto life eternall, that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth, might reioyce together.

³⁷ For herein is the saying true, that one soweth, and an other reapeth.

³⁸ I sent you to reape that, whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entred into their labours.

³⁹ Nowe many of the Samaritans of that citie beleeued in him, for the saying of the woman which testified, He hath tolde me all things that euer I did.

⁴⁰ Then when the Samaritans were come vnto him, they besought him, that he woulde tarie with them: and he abode there two dayes.

⁴¹ And many moe beleeued because of his owne word.

⁴² And they said vnto the woman, Nowe we beleeue, not because of thy saying: for we haue heard him our selues, and knowe that this is in deede that Christ the Sauiour of the world.

⁴³ So two dayes after he departed thence, and went into Galile.

⁴⁴ For Iesus himselfe had testified, that a Prophet hath none honour in his owne countrey.

⁴⁵ Then when he was come into Galile, the Galileans receiued him, which had seene all the things that he did at Hierusalem at the feast: for they went also vnto the feast.

⁴⁸ Then saide Iesus vnto him, Except ye see signes and wonders, ye will not beleeue.

⁴⁹ The ruler said vnto him, Syr, goe downe before my sonne dye.

⁵⁰ Iesus said vnto him, Go thy way, thy sonne liueth: and the man beleeued the worde that Iesus had spoken vnto him, and went his way.

⁵¹ And as he was nowe going downe, his seruants met him, saying, Thy sonne liueth.

⁵² Then enquired he of them the houre when he began to amend. And they said vnto him, Yesterday the seuenth houre the feuer left him.

⁵³ Then the father knew, that it was the same houre in the which Iesus had said vnto him, Thy sonne liueth. And he beleeued, and all his houshold.

³⁵ Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

³⁶ And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

³⁷ And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

³⁸ I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.

³⁹ And many of the Samaritans of that city believed on him for the saying of the woman, which testified, He told me all that ever I did.

⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans were come unto him, they besought him that he would tarry with them: and he abode there two days.

⁴¹ And many moe believed because of his own word;

⁴² and said unto the woman, Now we believe, not because of thy saying: for we have heard him ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Christ, the Saviour of the world.

⁴³ Now after two days he departed thence, and went into Galilee.

⁴⁴ For Jesus himself testified, that a prophet hath no honour in his own country.

⁴⁵ Then when he was come into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did at Jerusalem at the feast: for they also went unto the feast.

⁴⁶ So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

⁴⁷ When he heard that Jesus was come out of Judea into Galilee, he went unto him, and besought him that he would come down, and heal his son: for he was at the point of death.

⁴⁸ Then said Jesus unto him, Except ye see signs and wonders, ye will not believe.

⁴⁹ The nobleman saith unto him, Sir, come down ere my child die.

⁵⁰ Jesus saith unto him, Go thy way; thy son liveth. And the man believed the word that Jesus had spoken unto him, and he went his way.

⁵¹ And as he was now going down, his servants met him, and told him, saying, Thy son liveth.

⁵² Then inquired he of them the hour when he began to amend. And they said unto him, Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.

⁵³ So the father knew that it was at the same hour, in the which Jesus said unto him, Thy son liveth: and himself believed, and his whole house.

⁹ The Samaritan woman saith to him, How is it that thou, who art a Jew, askest drink of me, who am a Samaritan woman? For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to her, If thou hadst known the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldst have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.

¹¹ The woman saith to him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. Whence hast thou the living water?

¹² Art thou greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his sons, and his cattle?

¹³ Jesus answered and said to her, Every one that drinketh of this water, will thirst again;

¹⁴ but whoever drinketh of the water that I will give him, will never thirst; but the water that I will give him will become within him a well of water springing up to everlasting life.

¹⁵ The woman saith to him, Sir, give me this water, that I may not thirst, nor come hither to draw.

¹⁶ He saith to her, Go, call thy husband, and come hither.

¹⁷ The woman answered, I have no husband. Jesus saith to her, Thou saidst well, that thou hast no husband.

¹⁸ For thou hast had five husbands; and he whom thou now hast is not thy husband; in this thou hast spoken truly.

¹⁹ The woman saith to him, Sir, I perceive that thou art a prophet.

²⁰ Our fathers worshipped on this mountain; and ye say, that in Jerusalem is the place where men ought to worship.

²¹ Jesus saith to her, Believe me, woman, the hour is coming, when ye shall neither on this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, worship the Father.

²² Ye worship that which ye know not; we worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews.

²³ But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth; for such worshippers the Father seeketh.

²⁴ God is a spirit; and they who worship must worship in spirit and in truth.

²⁵ The woman saith to him, I know that Messiah cometh (who is called Christ); when he hath come, he will tell us all things.

²⁶ Jesus saith to her, I who speak to thee am he.

²⁷ And upon this his disciples came, and marveled that he was talking with a woman. Yet no one said, What dost thou seek? or, Why dost thou talk with her?

²⁸ The woman then left her water-pot, and went away into the city, and saith to the men,

²⁹ Come, see a man who told me all things which I have done. Is this the Christ?

³⁰ They went out of the city, and came to him.

³¹ In the mean while the disciples asked him, saying, Rabbi, eat.

³² But he said to them, I have food to eat that ye know not of.

³³ The disciples therefore said to one another, Hath any one brought him anything to eat?

³⁴ Jesus saith to them, My food is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

³⁰ And the people left the town and went to see Jesus.

³¹ Meanwhile the disciples kept saying to him, “Take something to eat, Rabbi.”

³² “I have food to eat,” he answered, “of which you know nothing.”

³³ “Can anyone have brought him anything to eat?” the disciples said to one another.

³⁴ “My food,” replied Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me, and to complete his work.

³⁵ Don't you say that it still wants four months to harvest? Why, look up, and see how white the fields are for harvest!

³⁶ Already the reaper is receiving wages and gathering in sheaves for eternal life, so that sower and reaper rejoice together.

³⁷ For here the proverb holds good — ‘One sows, another reaps.’

³⁸ I have sent you to reap that on which you have spent no labour; others have laboured, and you have reaped the results of their labour.”

³⁹ Many from that town came to believe in Jesus — Samaritans though they were — because the woman had said, ‘He has told me everything that I have done.’

⁴⁰ And, when these Samaritans had come to Jesus, they begged him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days.

⁴¹ But far more came to believe in him because of what he said himself,

⁴² and they said to the woman, “It is no longer because of what you say that we believe in him, for we have heard him ourselves and know that he really is the Saviour of the world.”

⁴³ After these two days Jesus went on to Galilee;

⁴⁴ for he himself declared that ‘a prophet is not honoured in his own country.’

⁴⁵ When he entered Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him, for they had seen all that he did at Jerusalem during the Festival, at which they also had been present.

⁴⁶ So Jesus came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had turned the water into wine. Now there was one of the king's officers whose son was lying ill at Capernaum.

⁴⁷ When this man heard that Jesus had returned from Judea to Galilee, he went to him, and begged him to come down and cure his son; for he was at the point of death.

⁴⁸ Jesus answered, “Unless you all see signs and wonders, you will not believe.”

⁴⁹ “Sir,” said the officer, “come down before my child dies.” And Jesus answered, “Go, your son is living.”

⁵⁰ The man believed what Jesus said to him, and went;

⁵¹ and, while he was on his way down, his servants met him, and told him that his child was living.

⁵² So he asked them at what time the boy began to get better. “It was yesterday, about one o'clock,” they said, “that the fever left him.”

¹⁰ Yeshua Salvation answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”

¹² Are you greater than Avinu ·our Father·, Jacob Supplanter, who gave us the well, and drank of it himself, as did his children, and his livestock?”

²³ But the time will come, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship Abba Father in spirit and truth, for Abba Father seeks such to be his worshipers.

²⁵ The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah Anointed one comes, he who is called Messiah Anointed one. When he has come, he will declare to us all things.”

²⁶ Yeshua Salvation said to her, “Ena Na I AM (the Living God), I who is speaking to you.”

²⁷ At this, his disciples came. They marveled that he was speaking with a woman; yet no one said, “What are you looking for?” or, “Why do you speak with her?”

²⁸ So the woman left her water pot, and went away into the city, and said to the people,

²⁹ “Come, see a man who told me everything that I did. Can this be the Messiah Anointed one?”

³⁰ They went out of the city, and were coming to him.

³¹ In the meanwhile, the disciples urged him, saying, “Rabbi ·Teacher·, eat.”

³² But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you don’t know about.”

³³ The disciples therefore said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?”

³⁴ Yeshua Salvation said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me, and to accomplish his work.

⁴² They said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of your speaking; for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Messiah Anointed one, the Savior of the world.”

⁴³ After the two days he went out from there and went into Galilee District, Circuit.

⁴⁴ For Yeshua Salvation himself testified that a prophet has no honor in his own country.

⁴⁵ So when he came into Galilee District, Circuit, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did in Jerusalem City of peace at the feast, for they also went to the feast.

⁴⁷ When he heard that Yeshua Salvation had come out of Judea Praise into Galilee District, Circuit, he went to him, and begged him that he would come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.

⁴⁸ Yeshua Salvation therefore said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders, you will in no way believe.”

⁵³ So the Abba Father knew that it was at that hour in which Yeshua Salvation said to him, “Your son lives.” He believed, as did his whole house.

⁹ Then sayde the woman of Samaria vnto him: how is it that thou beinge a Iewe axest drinke of me which am a Samaritane? for the Iewes medle not with the Samaritans.

¹⁰ Iesus answered and sayde vnto hir: yf thou knewest the gyfte of God and who it is that sayeth to the geve me drynke thou woldest have axed of him and he wolde have geven the water of lyfe.

²¹ Iesus sayde vnto her: woman beleve me the houre cometh when ye shall nether in this moutayne nor yet at Ierusalem worshippe the father.

²² Ye worshippe ye wot not what: we knowe what we worshippe. For salvacion cometh of the Iewes.

²³ But the houre commeth and nowe is when the true worshippers shall worshippe the father in sprete and in trouthe. For verely suche the father requyreth to worshippe him.

²⁴ God is a sprete and they that worshippe him must worshippe him in sprete and trouthe.

²⁵ The woman sayde vnto him: I wot well Messias shall come which is called Christ. When he is come he will tell vs all thinges.

²⁶ Iesus sayde vnto hir: I that speake vnto the am he.

²⁷ And even at that poynte came his disciples and marvelled that he talked with the woman. Yet no man sayde vnto him: what meanest thou or why talkest thou with her?

²⁸ The woman then lefte her waterpot and went her waye into the cite and sayde to the men.

²⁹ Come se a man which tolde me all thinges that ever I dyd. Is not he Christ?

³⁰ Then they went out of the cite and came vnto him.

³¹ And in ye meane while his disciples prayed him sayinge: Master eate.

³² He sayde vnto the: I have meate to eate that ye knowe not of.

³³ Then sayd the disciples bitwene them selves: hath eny man brought him meate?

³⁴ Iesus sayde vnto them: my meate is to doo the will of him that sent me. And to fynnysshe his worke.

³⁵ Saye not ye: there are yet foure monethes and then cometh harvest? Beholde I saye vnto you lyfte vp youre eyes and loke on the regions: for they are whyte all redy vnto harvest.

⁴¹ And many moo beleved because of his awne wordes

⁴² and sayd vnto the woman: Now we beleve not because of thy sayinge. For we have herde him oure selves and knowe that this is even in dede Christ the savioure of the worlde.

⁴³ After two dayes he departed thence and wet awaye into Galile.

⁴⁴ And Iesus him selfe testified that a Prophete hath none honoure in his awne countre.

⁴⁵ Then assone as he was come into Galile the Galileans receaved him which had sene all the thinges that he dyd at Ierusalem at the feast. For they wet also vnto the feast daye.

⁴⁶ And Iesus came agayne into Cana of Galile wher he turned water into wyne. And ther was a certayne ruler whose sonne was sicke at Capernaum.

⁴⁷ Assone as the same herde that Iesus was come out of Iewry into Galile he wet vnto him and besought him that he wolde descende and heale his sonne: For he was even readie to dye.

⁴⁸ Then sayde Iesus vnto him: excepte ye se signes and wodres ye cannot beleve.

⁴⁹ The ruler sayd vnto him: Syr come awaye or ever that my chylde dye.

⁵⁰ Iesus sayde vnto him goo thy waye thy sonne liveth. And the man beleved the wordes that Iesus had spoke vnto him and wet his waye.

⁵¹ And anone as he went on his waye his servantes met him and tolde him sayinge: thy chylde liveth.

⁵² Then enquyred he of the the houre when he begane to amende. And they sayde vnto him: Yester daye the sevethe houre the fever lefte him.

⁵³ And the father knew that it was the same houre in which Iesus sayde vnto him: Thy sonne liveth. And he beleved and all his housholde.

⁹ Then the Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, being a Jew, are asking me, being a Samaritan woman, for something to drink?” For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.

¹⁰ Jesus answered and said to her, “If you had known the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, 'Give me a drink,' you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.”

¹¹ The woman said to him, “Sir, you do not have a bucket and the well is deep. Where then do you have the living water?

¹² You are not greater, are you, than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his cattle?”

¹³ Jesus replied and said to her, “Everyone who drinks from this water will be thirsty again,

¹⁴ but whoever drinks from the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. Instead, the water that I will give him will become a fountain of water in him, springing up to eternal life.”

¹⁵ The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water so that I may not become thirsty and not have to come here to draw water.”

¹⁶ Jesus said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come back here.”

¹⁷ The woman answered and said to him, “I do not have a husband.” Jesus replied, “You are right in saying, 'I have no husband,'

¹⁸ for you have had five husbands, and the one you now have is not your husband. What you have said is true.”

¹⁹ The woman said to him, “Sir, I see that you are a prophet.

²⁰ Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, but you say that Jerusalem is the place where people have to worship.”

²¹ Jesus said to her, “Believe me, woman, that an hour is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.

²² You worship what you do not know. We worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.

²³ However, the hour is coming, and is now here, when true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to be his worshipers.

²⁴ God is Spirit, and the people who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

²⁵ The woman said to him, “I know that the Messiah is coming (the one called Christ). When he comes, he will explain everything to us.”

²⁶ Jesus said to her, “I am he, the one speaking to you.”

²⁷ At that moment his disciples returned. Now they were wondering why he was speaking with a woman, but no one said, “What do you want?” or “Why are you speaking with her?”

²⁸ So the woman left her water pot, went back to the town, and said to the people,

²⁹ “Come, see a man who told me everything that I have ever done. This could not be the Christ, could it?”

³⁰ They left the town and came to him.

³¹ In the meantime, the disciples were urging him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”

³² But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you do not know about.”

³³ So the disciples said to each other, “No one has brought him anything to eat, have they?”

³⁴ Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to complete his work.

³⁵ Do you not say, 'There are four more months and then the harvest comes'? I am saying to you, look up and see the fields, for they are already ripe for harvest!

³⁶ He who is harvesting receives wages and gathers fruit for everlasting life, so that he who sows and he who harvests may rejoice together.

³⁷ For in this the saying, 'One sows, and another harvests,' is true.

³⁸ I sent you to harvest what you have not worked for. Others have worked, and you have entered into their labor.”

³⁹ Many of the Samaritans in that city believed in him because of the report of the woman who was testifying, “He told me everything that I have done.”

⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans came to him, they asked him to stay with them, and he stayed there two days.

⁴¹ Many more believed because of his word.

⁴² They said to the woman, “We no longer believe because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard, and we know that this one is indeed the savior of the world.”

⁴³ After those two days, he departed from there for Galilee.

⁴⁴ For Jesus himself declared that a prophet has no honor in his own country.

⁴⁵ When he came into Galilee, the Galileans welcomed him. They had seen all the things that he had done in Jerusalem at the festival, for they had also gone to the festival.

⁴⁶ Now he came again to Cana in Galilee, where he had made the water wine. There was a certain royal official whose son in Capernaum was ill.

⁴⁷ When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went to Jesus and asked him to come down and heal his son, who was about to die.

⁴⁸ Jesus then said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders, you will not believe.”

⁴⁹ The official said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”

⁵⁰ Jesus said to him, “Go. Your son lives.” The man believed the word that Jesus spoke to him, and he went away.

⁵¹ While he was going down, his servants met him, saying that his son was living.

⁵² So he asked them the hour when he began to improve. They replied to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him.”

⁵³ Then the father realized that it was at that hour that Jesus had said to him, “Your son lives.” So he himself and his whole household believed.

³⁶ He who reaps receives wages and gathers fruit to eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.

³⁷ For in this the saying is true, ‘One sows, and another reaps.’

³⁸ I sent you to reap that for which you haven’t labored. Others have labored, and you have entered into their labor.”

³⁷ And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

¹¹ The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw with, and the well is deep. So where do you get that living water?

¹² Are you greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his children and his livestock?”

¹³ Yeshua answered her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again,

¹⁴ but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never thirst again; but the water that I will give him will become in him a well of water springing up to eternal life.”

¹⁵ The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I don’t get thirsty, neither come all the way here to draw.”

¹⁶ Yeshua said to her, “Go, call your husband, and come here.”

¹⁷ The woman answered, “I have no husband.” Yeshua said to her, “You said well, ‘I have no husband,’

¹⁸ for you have had five husbands; and he whom you now have is not your husband. This you have said truly.”

¹⁹ The woman said to him, “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.

²⁰ Our fathers worshipped in this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where people ought to worship.”

²¹ Yeshua said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither in this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

²² You worship that which you don’t know. We worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews.

²³ But the hour comes, and now is, when the true worshippers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father seeks such to be his worshippers.

²⁴ God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

²⁵ The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming, he who is called Messiah. When he has come, he will declare to us all things.”

²⁶ Yeshua said to her, “I am he, the one who speaks to you.”

²⁷ Just then, his disciples came. They marvelled that he was speaking with a woman; yet no one said, “What are you looking for?” or, “Why do you speak with her?”

²⁸ So the woman left her water pot, went away into the city, and said to the people,

²⁹ “Come, see a man who told me everything that I have done. Can this be the Messiah?”

³⁰ They went out of the city, and were coming to him.

³¹ In the meanwhile, the disciples urged him, saying, “Rabbi, eat.”

³² But he said to them, “I have food to eat that you don’t know about.”

³³ The disciples therefore said to one another, “Has anyone brought him something to eat?”

³⁴ Yeshua said to them, “My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to accomplish his work.

³⁵ Don’t you say, ‘There are yet four months until the harvest?’ Behold, I tell you, lift up your eyes and look at the fields, that they are white for harvest already.

³⁶ He who reaps receives wages and gathers fruit to eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together.

³⁷ For in this the saying is true, ‘One sows, and another reaps.’

³⁸ I sent you to reap that for which you haven’t laboured. Others have laboured, and you have entered into their labour.”

³⁹ From that city many of the Samaritans believed in him because of the word of the woman, who testified, “He told me everything that I have done.”

⁴⁰ So when the Samaritans came to him, they begged him to stay with them. He stayed there two days.

⁴¹ Many more believed because of his word.

⁴² They said to the woman, “Now we believe, not because of your speaking; for we have heard for ourselves, and know that this is indeed the Messiah, the Saviour of the world.”

⁴³ After the two days he went out from there and went into Galilee.

⁴⁴ For Yeshua himself testified that a prophet has no honour in his own country.

⁴⁵ So when he came into Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all the things that he did in Jerusalem at the feast, for they also went to the feast.

⁴⁶ Yeshua came therefore again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water into wine. There was a certain nobleman whose son was sick at Capernaum.

⁴⁷ When he heard that Yeshua had come out of Judea into Galilee, he went to him and begged him that he would come down and heal his son, for he was at the point of death.

⁴⁸ Yeshua therefore said to him, “Unless you see signs and wonders, you will in no way believe.”

⁴⁹ The nobleman said to him, “Sir, come down before my child dies.”

⁵⁰ Yeshua said to him, “Go your way. Your son lives.” The man believed the word that Yeshua spoke to him, and he went his way.

⁵¹ As he was going down, his servants met him and reported, saying “Your child lives!”

⁵² So he enquired of them the hour when he began to get better. They said therefore to him, “Yesterday at the seventh hour, the fever left him.”

⁵³ So the father knew that it was at that hour in which Yeshua said to him, “Your son lives.” He believed, as did his whole house.

⁹ Therefore that woman of Samaria saith to him, How thou, that art a Jew, askest of me a drink, that am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews used not to deal with the Samaritans.

¹⁰ Jesus answered, and said to her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is, that saith to thee, Give me drink, thou peradventure wouldest have asked of him, and he should have given to thee quick water.

³⁶ And he that reapeth taketh hire, and gathereth fruit into everlasting life; that both he that soweth, and he that reapeth, have joy together.

³⁷ In this thing is the word true, For one is that soweth, and another that reapeth.

³⁸ I sent you to reap, that that ye have not travailed; other men have travailed, and ye have entered into their travails.

²⁹ Come ye, and see a man, that said to me all things that I have done; whether he be Christ? (or could he be the Messiah?)

³⁰ And they went out of the city, and came to him.

³¹ In the meanwhile his disciples prayed him, and said, Master or Rabbi, eat. (Meanwhile his disciples beseeched him, and said, Teacher, have something to eat.)

³² But he said to them, I have meat to eat, that ye know not (of). (But he said to them, I have food to eat, that ye know nothing about.)

³³ Therefore the disciples said together, Whether any man hath brought him meat to eat? (And so the disciples said to each other, Hath someone else brought him something to eat?)

⁴⁴ And he bare witnessing, that a prophet in his own country hath none honour. Soothly Jesus bare witnessing, for a prophet in his own country hath not honour, or worship. (And he testified, that a prophet is not honoured in his hometown.)

⁴⁵ Therefore when he came into Galilee, men of Galilee received him, when they had seen all (the) things that he had done in Jerusalem in the feast day (or for they had seen all the things that he had done in Jerusalem on the Feast Day, or at the Festival); for also they had come to the feast day.

⁴⁷ When this (man) had heard, that Jesus should come from Judea into Galilee, he went to him, and prayed him (or beseeched him), that he should come down, and heal his son; for he began to die.

⁹ Therfor thilke womman of Samarie seith to him, Hou thou, `whanne thou art a Jewe, axist of me drynk, that am a womman of Samarie? for Jewis vsiden not to dele with Samaritans.

¹⁰ Jhesus answerde, and seide to hir, If thou wistist the yifte of God, and who `he is, that seith to thee, Yyue me drynk, thou perauenture woldist haue axid of hym, and he schulde haue youun to thee quyk watir.

¹¹ The womman seith to him, Sire, thou hast not where ynne to drawe, and the pit is deep; wherof thanne hast thou quik watir?

¹² Whethir thou art grettere than oure fadir Jacob, that yaf to vs the pit? and he drank therof, and hise sones, and hise beestis.

¹³ Jhesus answerde, and seide to hir, Eche man that drynkith of this watir, schal thirste efte soone; but he that drynkith of the watir that Y schal yyue hym, schal not thirste with outen ende; but the watir that Y schal yyue hym,

¹⁴ schal be maad in hym a welle `of watir, spryngynge vp in to euerlastynge lijf.

¹⁵ The womman seith to hym, Sire, yyue me this watir, that Y thirste not, nether come hidur to drawe.

¹⁶ Jhesus seith to hir, Go, clepe thin hosebonde, and come hidir.

¹⁷ The womman answerde, and seide, Y haue noon hosebonde. Jhesus seith to hir, Thou seidist wel, That Y haue noon hosebonde;

¹⁸ for thou hast hadde fyue hosebondis, and he that thou hast, is not thin hosebonde. This thing thou seidist sotheli.

¹⁹ The womman seith to hym, Lord, Y se, that thou art a prophete.

²⁰ Oure fadris worschipiden in this hil, and ye seien, that at Jerusalem is a place, where it bihoueth to worschipe.

²¹ Jhesus seith to hir, Womman, bileue thou to me, for the our schal come, whanne nether in this hil, nethir in Jerusalem, ye schulen worschipe the fadir.

²² Ye worschipen that ye knowen not; we worschipen that that we knowen; for helthe is of the Jewis.

²³ But the tyme is comun, and now it is, whanne trewe worschiperis schulen worschipe the fadir in spirit and treuthe; for also the fadir sekith suche, that worschipen hym.

²⁴ God is a spirit, and it bihoueth hem that worschipen hym, to worschipe in spirit and treuthe.

²⁵ The womman seith to hym, Y woot that Messias is comun, that is seid Crist; therfor whanne he cometh, he schal telle vs alle thingis.

²⁶ Jhesus seith to hir, Y am he, that spekith with thee.

²⁷ And anoon hise disciplis camen, and wondriden, that he spak with the womman; netheles no man seide to hym, What sekist thou, or, What spekist thou with hir?

²⁸ Therfor the womman lefte hir watir pot, and wente in to the citee, and seide to tho men,

²⁹ Come ye, and se ye a man, that seide to me alle thingis that Y haue don; whether he be Crist?

³⁰ And thei wenten out of the citee, and camen to hym.

³¹ In the mene while hise disciplis preieden hym, and seiden, Maistir, ete.

³² But he seide to hem, Y haue mete to ete, that ye knowen not.

³³ Therfor disciplis seiden togidir, Whether ony man hath brouyt him mete to ete?

³⁴ Jhesus seith to hem, My mete is, that Y do the wille of hym that sente me, that Y perfourme the werk of hym.

³⁵ Whether ye seien not, that yit foure monethis ben, and rype corn cometh? Lo! Y seie to you, lifte vp youre iyen, and se ye the feeldis, for now thei ben white to repe.

³⁶ And he that repith takith hire, and gaderith fruyt in to euerlastynge lijf; that bothe he that sowith, and he that repith, haue ioye togidere.

³⁷ In this thing is the word trewe, for anothir is that sowith, and anothir that repith.

³⁸ Y sente you to repe, that that ye `haue not trauelid; `othere men han trauelid, and ye han entrid `in to her trauels.

³⁹ And of that citee many Samaritans bileueden in hym, for the word of the womman, that bare witnessyng, That he seide to me alle thingis that Y haue don.

⁴⁰ Therfor whanne Samaritans camen to hym, thei preieden hym to dwelle there; and he dwelte there twey daies.

⁴¹ And many mo bileueden for his word,

⁴² and seiden to the womman, That now not for thi speche we bileuen; for we han herd, and we witen, that this is verili the sauyour of the world.

⁴³ And aftir twei daies he wente out fro thennus, and wente in to Galilee.

⁴⁴ And he bar witnessyng, that a profete in his owne cuntre hath noon onour.

⁴⁵ Therfor whanne he cam in to Galilee, men of Galilee resseyueden hym, whanne thei hadden seyn alle thingis that he hadde don in Jerusalem in the feeste dai; for also thei hadden comun to the feeste dai.

⁴⁶ Therfor he cam eftsoone in to the Cane of Galile, where he made the watir wiyn. And `a litil kyng was, whos sone was sijk at Cafarnaum.

⁴⁷ Whanne this hadde herd, that Jhesu schulde come fro Judee in to Galilee, he wente to hym, and preiede hym, that he schulde come doun, and heele his sone; for he bigan to die.

⁴⁸ Therfor Jhesus seide to him, But ye se tokenes and grete wondris, ye bileuen not.

⁴⁹ The litil kyng seith to hym, Lord, come doun, bifor that my sone die.

⁵⁰ Jhesus seith to hym, Go, thi sone lyueth. The man bileuede to the word, that Jhesus seide to hym, and he wente.

⁵¹ And now whanne he cam doun, the seruauntis camen ayens hym, and telden to hym, and seiden, That his sone lyuede.

⁵² And he axide of hem the our, in which he was amendid. And thei seiden to hym, For yistirdai in the seuenthe our the feuer lefte him.

⁵³ Therfor the fadir knewe, that thilke our it was, in which Jhesus seide to hym, Thi sone lyueth; and he bileuede, and al his hous.

⁹ the Samaritan woman therefore saith to him, 'How dost thou, being a Jew, ask drink from me, being a Samaritan woman?' for Jews have no dealing with Samaritans.

²⁷ And upon this came his disciples, and were wondering that with a woman he was speaking, no one, however, said, 'What seekest thou?' or 'Why speakest thou with her?'

²⁸ The woman then left her water-jug, and went away to the city, and saith to the men,

²⁹ 'Come, see a man, who told me all things — as many as I did; is this the Christ?'

³⁰ They went forth therefore out of the city, and were coming unto him.

³¹ And in the meanwhile his disciples were asking him, saying, 'Rabbi, eat;'

³² and he said to them, 'I have food to eat that ye have not known.'

³³ The disciples then said one to another, 'Did any one bring him anything to eat?'

³⁴ Jesus saith to them, 'My food is, that I may do the will of Him who sent me, and may finish His work;

³⁵ do not say that it is yet four months, and the harvest cometh; lo, I say to you, Lift up your eyes, and see the fields, that they are white unto harvest already.

³⁶ 'And he who is reaping doth receive a reward, and doth gather fruit to life age-during, that both he who is sowing and he who is reaping may rejoice together;

³⁹ And from that city many believed in him, of the Samaritans, because of the word of the woman testifying, — 'He told me all things — as many as I did.'

⁴⁰ When, then, the Samaritans came unto him, they were asking him to remain with them, and he remained there two days;

⁴¹ and many more did believe because of his word,

⁴² and said to the woman — 'No more because of thy speaking do we believe; for we ourselves have heard and known that this is truly the Saviour of the world — the Christ.'

⁴³ And after the two days he went forth thence, and went away to Galilee,

⁴⁴ for Jesus himself testified that a prophet in his own country shall not have honour;

⁴⁵ when then, he came to Galilee, the Galileans received him, having seen all things that he did in Jerusalem in the feast — for they also went to the feast.

⁴⁶ Jesus came, therefore, again to Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine, and there was a certain courtier, whose son was ailing in Capernaum,

⁴⁷ he, having heard that Jesus is come out of Judea to Galilee, went away unto him, and was asking him that he may come down and may heal his son, for he was about to die.

⁴⁸ Jesus then said unto him, 'If signs and wonders ye may not see, ye will not believe.'

⁴⁹ The courtier saith unto him, 'Sir, come down before my child die;'

⁵⁰ Jesus saith to him, 'Be going on; thy son doth live.' And the man believed the word that Jesus said to him, and was going on,

⁵¹ and he now going down, his servants met him, and told, saying — 'Thy child doth live;'

⁵² he inquired then of them the hour in which he became better, and they said to him — 'Yesterday at the seventh hour the fever left him;'

⁵³ then the father knew that it was in that hour in which Jesus said to him — 'Thy son doth live,' and he himself believed, and his whole house;
