John 4:11-20

¹¹The woman says to Him: “Sir, you don't even have a bucket, and the well is deep; so where do you get this living water?

¹²You aren't greater than our father Jacob, are you? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.”

¹³Jesus answered and said to her: “Everyone who drinks of this water will thirst again,

¹⁴but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never ever thirst; rather, the water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water, welling up into eternal life.”

¹⁵The woman says to Him, “Sir, give me this water! so that I may not thirst, nor come here to draw.”

¹⁶Jesus says to her, “Go, call your husband and come back here.”

¹⁷The woman answered and said, “I don't have a husband.” Jesus says to her: “You stated correctly that you do not have a husband,

¹⁸because you have had five husbands, and the one you have now is no husband of yours. You spoke the truth there!”

¹⁹The woman says to Him: “Sir, I perceive that you are a prophet.

²⁰Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, while you (pl) say that the place where one must worship is in Jerusalem.”
