John 2:5-12 in English

⁵ His mother saith unto the servants, Whatsoever he saith unto you, do it.

⁶ Now there were six waterpots of stone set there after the Jews’ manner of purifying, containing two or three firkins apiece.

⁷ Jesus saith unto them, Fill the waterpots with water. And they filled them up to the brim.

⁸ And he saith unto them, Draw out now, and bear unto the ruler of the feast. And they bare it.

⁹ And when the ruler of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and knew not whence it was (but the servants that had drawn the water knew), the ruler of the feast calleth the bridegroom,

¹⁰ and saith unto him, Every man setteth on first the good wine; and when men have drunk freely, then that which is worse: thou hast kept the good wine until now.

¹¹ This beginning of his signs did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

¹² After this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples; and there they abode not many days.

⁵ His mother told the servants, “Do whatever He tells you.”

⁶ Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding two to three metretes.

⁷ Jesus told the servants, “Fill the jars with water,” so they filled them to the brim.

⁸ Then He told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.” They did so,

⁹ and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He didn’t realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside

¹⁰ and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first, and then the cheaper wine after the guests have drunk freely, but you have saved the best till now!”

¹¹ Jesus did this beginning of signs in Cana of Galilee. He revealed His glory, and His disciples believed in Him.

¹² After this, He went down to Capernaum with His mother, His brothers, and His disciples, and they stayed there only a few days.

⁵ Then Jesus' mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you!”

⁶ There were six empty stone jars there. The Jews habitually put water in them to use for washing things to make them acceptable to God. Each jar held ◄20 to 30 gallons/80 to 120 liters►.

⁷ Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water!” So they filled the jars to the brim.

⁸ Then he told them, “Now, ladle out some of it and take it ◄to the head waiter/to the master of ceremonies►.” So the servants did that.

⁹ ◄The head waiter/The master of ceremonies► tasted the water, which had now become wine. He did not know where the wine had come from, but the servants who had ladled out the wine knew. The wine was delicious! So he called the bridegroom over,

¹⁰ and said to him, “Everyone else serves the best wine first. Then when the guests have drunk so much that they cannot tell the difference, they serve the cheap wine. But you have not done what others do. You have kept the best wine until now!”

¹¹ That was the first miracle that Jesus did. He did it in Cana town, in Galilee district. By doing it he showed how awesome he is, and as a result, we his disciples believed that he truly was the Messiah.

¹² Jesus then went down to Capernaum city with his mother and younger brothers and us his disciples. We stayed there several days.

⁵ His mother said to the servants, “Whatever he says to you, do it.”

⁷ Jesus said to the servants, Make the pots full of water. And they made them full to the top.

⁸ Then he said to them, Now take some, and give it to the master of the feast. So they took it to him.

⁹ After tasting the water which had now become wine, the master of the feast (having no idea where it came from, though it was clear to the servants who took the water out) sent for the newly-married man,

¹⁰ And said to him, Every man first puts out his best wine and when all have had enough he puts out what is not so good; but you have kept the good wine till now.

¹¹ This, the first of his signs, Jesus did at Cana in Galilee and let his glory be seen openly; and his disciples put their faith in him.

¹² After this he went down to Capernaum, with his mother, his brothers, and his disciples, and they were there not more than two or three days.

⁵ His mother says to the servants, Whatever he may say to you, do.

⁶ Now there were standing there six stone water-vessels, according to the purification of the Jews, holding two or three measures each.

⁷ Jesus says to them, Fill the water-vessels with water. And they filled them up to the brim.

⁸ And he says to them, Draw out now, and carry it to the feast-master. And they carried it.

⁹ But when the feast-master had tasted the water which had been made wine (and knew not whence it was, but the servants knew who drew the water), the feast-master calls the bridegroom,

¹⁰ and says to him, Every man sets on first the good wine, and when men have well drunk, then the inferior; thou hast kept the good wine till now.

¹¹ This beginning of signs did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory; and his disciples believed on him.

¹² After this he descended to Capernaum, he and his mother and his brethren and his disciples; and there they abode not many days.

¹⁰ and said to him, “Every man first sets out the good wine, and when they have well drunk, then the inferior. But you have kept the good wine until now!”

¹¹ This beginning of the signs Jesus did in Cana of Galilee, and manifested His glory; and His disciples believed in Him.

⁸ So He says to them, “Now, draw some out and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So they took it.

⁹ Well, when the master of ceremonies tasted the water that had become wine—he did not know where it came from, but the servants who had drawn the water knew—he calls the bridegroom

¹⁰ and says to him: “Everybody serves the good wine first, then, when people are intoxicated, the inferior. You have kept the good wine until now!”

¹¹ This, the first of the miraculous signs, Jesus performed in Cana of Galilee and revealed His glory; and His disciples believed into Him.

¹² After this He went down to Capernaum—He, His mother, His brothers, and His disciples—but they did not stay there many days.

⁵ His mother told the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

⁶ Standing nearby were six stone jars used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each one holding twenty to thirty gallons.

⁷ “Fill the jars with water,” Jesus told them. So they filled them right up.

⁸ Then he told them, “Pour some out, and take it to the master of ceremonies.” So they took him some.

⁹ The master of ceremonies didn't know where it had come from, only the servants knew. But when he tasted the water that had been turned to wine, he called the bridegroom over.

¹⁰ “Everyone serves out the best wine first,” he told him, “and once people have had plenty to drink, then they put out the cheaper wine. But you have kept the best wine till last!”

¹¹ This was the very first of Jesus' miraculous signs, and was performed in Cana of Galilee. Here he revealed his glory, and his disciples put their trust in him.

¹² After this Jesus left for Capernaum with his mother, brothers, and disciples where they stayed for a few days.

¹⁰ And saide vnto him, All men at the beginning set foorth good wine, and when men haue well drunke, then that which is worse: but thou hast kept backe the good wine vntill nowe.

¹¹ This beginning of miracles did Iesus in Cana a towne of Galile, and shewed forth his glorie: and his disciples beleeued on him.

¹⁰ and sayde vnto him. All men at the beginnynge set forth good wyne and when men be dronke then that which is worsse. But thou hast kept backe the good wyne vntyll now.

¹¹ This beginnynge of miracles dyd Iesus in Cana of Galile and shewed his glory and his disciples beleved on him.

⁷ And Jesus saith to them, Fill ye the pots with water. And they filled them, up to the mouth or unto the highest part.

⁸ And Jesus said to them, Draw ye now, and bear ye to the master of the feast. And they bare.

⁹ And when the master of the feast had tasted the water made wine, and knew not whereof it was, but the ministers knew that drew the water, the master of the feast calleth the spouse,

¹⁰ and saith to him, Each man setteth first good wine, and when men be full-filled, then that that is worse; but thou hast kept the good wine into this time.

¹¹ Jesus did this the beginning of signs, in the Cana of Galilee, and showed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

¹² After these things he came down to Capernaum, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples; and they dwelled there not many days.

⁵ His mother saith to the ministers, Whatever thing he saith to you, do ye. (His mother said to the servants, Whatever he saith to you, do it.)

⁶ And there were set (there) six stone cans, after the cleansing of the Jews, holding each two or three metretes. Forsooth there were put six stone pots, after the cleansing of (the) Jews, taking each two or three measures. (And there were put there six stone pots, or six stone water jars, for the purification rites of the Jews, each one holding two or three measures, or twenty or thirty gallons.)

⁷ And Jesus saith to them, Fill ye the pots with water. And they filled them, up to the mouth or unto the highest part.

⁸ And Jesus said to them, Draw ye (it) now, and bear ye to the master of the feast. And they bare (it to him).

⁹ And when the master of the feast had tasted the water made (into) wine, and knew not whereof it was, but the ministers knew that drew the water (or but the servants who drew the water knew), the master of the feast calleth the spouse,

¹⁰ and saith to him, Each man setteth first good wine, and when men be full-filled, then that that is worse; but thou hast kept the good wine into this time.

⁵ His modir seith to the mynystris, What euere thing he seie to you, do ye.

⁶ And there weren set `sixe stonun cannes, aftir the clensyng of the Jewis, holdynge ech tweyne ether thre metretis.

⁷ And Jhesus seith to hem, Fille ye the pottis with watir. And thei filliden hem, vp to the mouth.

⁸ And Jhesus seide to hem, Drawe ye now, and bere ye to the architriclyn. And thei baren.

⁹ And whanne the architriclyn hadde tastid the watir maad wiyn, and wiste not wherof it was, but the mynystris wisten that drowen the watir, the architriclyn clepith the spouse,

¹⁰ and seith to hym, Ech man settith first good wiyn, and whanne men ben fulfillid, thanne that that is worse; but thou hast kept the good wiyn `in to this tyme.

¹¹ Jhesus dide this the bigynnyng of signes in the Cane of Galilee, and schewide his glorie; and hise disciplis bileueden in hym.

¹² Aftir these thingis he cam doun to Cafarnaum, and his modir, and hise britheren, and hise disciplis; and thei dwelliden `there not many daies.

⁵ His mother saith to the ministrants, 'Whatever he may say to you — do.'

⁶ And there were there six water-jugs of stone, placed according to the purifying of the Jews, holding each two or three measures.

⁷ Jesus saith to them, 'Fill the water-jugs with water;' and they filled them — unto the brim;

⁸ and he saith to them, 'Draw out, now, and bear to the director of the apartment;' and they bare.

⁹ And as the director of the apartment tasted the water become wine, and knew not whence it is, (but the ministrants knew, who have drawn the water,) the director of the feast doth call the bridegroom,

¹⁰ and saith to him, 'Every man, at first, the good wine doth set forth; and when they may have drunk freely, then the inferior; thou didst keep the good wine till now.'

¹¹ This beginning of the signs did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested his glory, and his disciples believed in him;

¹² after this he went down to Capernaum, he, and his mother, and his brethren, and his disciples; and there they remained not many days.
