John 2:15-23 in English

¹⁵ and he made a scourge of cords, and cast all out of the temple, both the sheep and the oxen; and he poured out the changers’ money, and overthrew their tables;

¹⁶ and to them that sold the doves he said, Take these things hence; make not my Father’s house a house of merchandise.

¹⁷ His disciples remembered that it was written, Zeal for thy house shall eat me up.

¹⁸ The Jews therefore answered and said unto him, What sign showest thou unto us, seeing that thou doest these things?

¹⁹ Jesus answered and said unto them, Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.

²⁰ The Jews therefore said, Forty and six years was this temple in building, and wilt thou raise it up in three days?

²¹ But he spake of the temple of his body.

²² When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he spake this; and they believed the scripture, and the word which Jesus had said.

²³ Now when he was in Jerusalem at the passover, during the feast, many believed on his name, beholding his signs which he did.

¹⁵ When He had made a whip of cords, He drove them all out of the temple, with the sheep and the oxen, and poured out the changers’ money and overturned the tables.

¹⁶ He told those who sold doves, “Take these things away! Don’t make my Father’s house a market place!”

¹⁷ Then His disciples remembered that it was written, “Zeal for Your house will consume me.”

¹⁸ So the Jews answered and asked Him, “What sign do You show to us, since You do these things?”

¹⁹ Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up.”

²⁰ Then the Jews said, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and will You raise it up in three days?”

²¹ But the temple He had spoken of was His body.

²² After He was raised from the dead, His disciples recalled what He had said. Then they believed the Scripture and the words that Jesus had spoken.

²³ Now while He was in Jerusalem at the Passover Feast, many people saw the miraculous signs He was doing and believed in His name.

¹⁵ Then Jesus made a whip from some cords and used it to chase out the sheep and cattle from the Temple courtyard. By overturning their tables he scattered the coins of the men who were exchanging them.

¹⁶ He said to those who were selling doves, “Take these doves away from here! Stop defiling my Father's Temple by making it a market!”

¹⁷ Then we disciples remembered that these words had been written {that someone/David had written these words} in the Scriptures prophesying what the Messiah would say: “Others PRS will strongly oppose me because I greatly desire that people respect your Sacred Tent.”

¹⁸ So one of the Jewish leaders SYN replied to him, “What miracle will you perform to show us that you have authority from God to do these things?”

¹⁹ Jesus replied to them, “If/When you destroy this temple, I will build it again within three days.”

²⁰ So the Jewish leaders SYN said, “We have been building this Temple for forty-six years and it is not finished yet! So ◄there is no way you will build it within three days!/how will you build it within three days?► RHQ”

²¹ But when Jesus said that about the temple, he was really talking about his own body.

²² Later, after Jesus had died and had become alive again, we his disciples remembered the words he had said. As a result, we believed what had been prophesied in the Scriptures about the Messiah becoming alive again, and we believed that what Jesus said was true.

²³ While Jesus was in Jerusalem at the Passover celebration, many people came to believe that he was the Messiah because they saw the miracles he was performing.

¹⁷ And it came to the minds of the disciples that the Writings say, I am on fire with passion for your house.

¹⁸ Then the Jews put this question to him: What sign of authority have you to give us, seeing that you do these things?

¹⁹ And Jesus said to them, Send destruction on this Temple and I will put it up again in three days.

²⁰ The Jews said, The building of this Temple took forty-six years; and you will put it up in three days!

²¹ But his words were about that holy building which was his body.

²² So when he had come back again from the dead, the memory of these words came back to the disciples, and they had faith in the holy Writings and in the word which Jesus had said.

²³ Now while he was in Jerusalem at the feast of the Passover, a great number of people came to have faith in his name, after seeing the signs which he did.

²³ Now when he was at Jerusalem, at the pasch, upon the festival day, many believed in his name, seeing his signs which he did.

¹⁷ His disciples remembered the Scripture that says, “My devotion for your house is like a fire burning inside me!”

¹⁸ The Jewish leaders reacted, asking him, “What right do you have to do this? Show us some miraculous sign to prove it!”

¹⁹ Jesus replied, “Destroy this Temple, and in three days I'll raise it up!”

²⁰ “It took forty-six years to build this Temple, and you're going to raise it up in three days?” the Jewish leaders replied.

²¹ But the Temple Jesus was speaking of was his body.

²² After he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered what he said, and so they believed in Scripture and Jesus' own words.

²³ As a result of the miracles Jesus did while he was in Jerusalem during the Passover, many believed in him.

¹⁵ Then hee made a scourge of small cordes, and draue them all out of the Temple with the sheepe and oxen, and powred out the changers money, and ouerthrewe the tables,

¹⁶ And said vnto them that solde doues, Take these things hence: make not my fathers house, an house of marchandise.

¹⁸ Then answered the Iewes, and saide vnto him, What signe shewest thou vnto vs, that thou doest these things?

¹⁹ Iesus answered, and said vnto them, Destroy this Temple, and in three daies I will raise it vp againe.

²⁰ Then said the Iewes, Fourtie and sixe yeeres was this Temple a building, and wilt thou reare it vp in three daies?

²¹ But he spake of the temple of his bodie.

²² Assoone therefore as he was risen from the dead, his disciples remembred that hee thus sayde vnto them: and they beleeued the Scripture, and the worde which Iesus had saide.

²³ Nowe when hee was at Hierusalem at the Passeouer in the feast, many beleeued in his Name, when they sawe his miracles which he did.

¹⁸ Then answered the Iewes and sayde vnto him: what token shewest thou vnto vs seynge that thou dost these thinges?

¹⁹ Iesus answered and sayd vnto them: destroye this temple and in thre dayes I will reare it vp agayne.

²⁰ Then sayde the Iewes: xlvi. yeares was this temple abuyldinge: and wylt thou reare it vp in thre dayes:

²² Assone therfore as he was rysen from deeth agayne his disciples remembred that he thus sayde. And they beleved the scripture and the wordes which Iesus had sayde.

²³ When he was at Ierusalem at ester in the feaste many beleved on his name when they sawe his miracles which he dyd.

²⁰ Then the Jewish authorities said, “This temple was built in forty-six years, and you will raise it up in three days?”

²¹ However, he was speaking about the temple of his body.

²⁰ The Judeans therefore said, “It took forty-six years to build this temple! Will you raise it up in three days?”

²¹ But he spoke of the temple of his body.

²² When therefore he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered that he said this, and they believed the Scripture and the word which Yeshua had said.

²³ Now when he was in Jerusalem at the Passover, during the feast, many believed in his name, observing his signs which he did.

¹⁵ And when he had made as it were a scourge of small cords, he drove out all or cast all out of the temple, and oxen, and sheep; and he shedded out the money of changers, and turned upside-down the boards.

¹⁶ And he said to them that sold culvers, Take away from hence these things, and do not ye make the house of my Father an house of merchandise.

¹⁷ And his disciples had mind, for it was written, The fervent love or zeal of thine house hath eaten me.

¹⁸ Therefore the Jews answered, and said to him, What token or sign showest thou to us, that thou doest these things?

¹⁹ Jesus answered, and said to them, Undo ye this temple, and in three days I shall raise it.

²⁰ Therefore the Jews said to him, In forty and six years this temple was builded, and shalt thou in three days raise it?

²¹ But he said of the temple of his body.

²² Therefore when he was risen from death, his disciples had mind, that he said these things of his body; and they believed to the scripture, and to the word that Jesus said.

²³ And when Jesus was at Jerusalem in pask, in the feast day, many believed in his name, seeing his signs that he did.

¹⁶ And he said to them that sold culvers (or And he said to those who sold the doves and pigeons), Take away from hence these things, and do not ye make the house of my Father (into) an house of merchandise.

¹⁷ And his disciples had mind, for it was written, (or And his disciples remembered, that it is written), The fervent love of thine house hath eaten me. Forsooth his disciples had mind, for it is written, The zeal of thine house hath eaten me (or My zeal for thine house hath consumed me).

¹⁸ Therefore the Jews answered, and said to him, What token or What sign showest thou to us, that thou doest these things?

¹⁹ Jesus answered, and said to them, Undo ye this temple (or Destroy this temple), and in three days I shall raise it (up again).

²⁰ Therefore the Jews said to him, In forty and six years this temple was builded, and shalt thou in three days raise it (up again)? (And so the Jews said to him, This Temple took forty-six years to build, and shalt thou raise it up again in three days?)

²¹ But he said of the temple of his body.

²² Therefore when he was risen from death, his disciples had mind (or his disciples remembered), that he said these things of his body, Therefore when he had risen from (the) dead, his disciples had mind, for he said this thing; and they believed to the scripture, and to the word that Jesus said.

²³ And when Jesus was at Jerusalem in pask, in the feast day, many believed in his name, seeing his signs that he did. (And when Jesus was in Jerusalem for Passover, on the Feast Day, or for the Festival, many believed in him, seeing the miracles that he did.)

¹⁵ And whanne he hadde maad as it were a scourge of smale cordis, he droof out alle of the temple, and oxun, and scheep; and he schedde the money of chaungeris, and turnede vpsedoun the boordis.

¹⁶ And he seide to hem that selden culueris, Take awei fro hennus these thingis, and nyle ye make the hous of my fadir an hous of marchaundise.

¹⁷ And hise disciplis hadden mynde, for it was writun, The feruent loue of thin hous hath etun me.

¹⁸ Therfor the Jewis answeriden, and seiden to hym, What token schewist thou to vs, that thou doist these thingis?

¹⁹ Jhesus answerde, and seide to hem, Vndo ye this temple, and in thre daies Y schal reise it.

²⁰ Therfor the Jewis seiden to hym, In fourti and sixe yeer this temple was bildid, and schalt thou in thre daies reise it?

²¹ But he seide of the temple of his bodi.

²² Therfor whanne he was risun fro deeth, hise disciplis hadden mynde, that he seide these thingis of his bodi; and thei bileueden to the scripture, and to the word that Jhesus seide.

²³ And whanne Jhesus was at Jerusalem in pask, in the feeste dai, many bileueden in his name, seynge his signes that he dide.

¹⁵ and having made a whip of small cords, he put all forth out of the temple, also the sheep, and the oxen; and of the money-changers he poured out the coins, and the tables he overthrew,

¹⁶ and to those selling the doves he said, 'Take these things hence; make not the house of my Father a house of merchandise.'

¹⁷ And his disciples remembered that it is written, 'The zeal of Thy house did eat me up;'

¹⁸ the Jews then answered and said to him, 'What sign dost thou shew to us — that thou dost these things?'

¹⁹ Jesus answered and said to them, 'Destroy this sanctuary, and in three days I will raise it up.'

²⁰ The Jews, therefore, said, 'Forty and six years was this sanctuary building, and wilt thou in three days raise it up?'

²¹ but he spake concerning the sanctuary of his body;

²² when, then, he was raised out of the dead, his disciples remembered that he said this to them, and they believed the Writing, and the word that Jesus said.

²³ And as he was in Jerusalem, in the passover, in the feast, many believed in his name, beholding his signs that he was doing;
