John 21:9-22 in English

⁹ So when they got out upon the land, they see a fire of coals there, and fish laid thereon, and bread.

¹⁰ Jesus saith unto them, Bring of the fish which ye have now taken.

¹¹ Simon Peter therefore went up, and drew the net to land, full of great fishes, a hundred and fifty and three: and for all there were so many, the net was not rent.

¹² Jesus saith unto them, Come and break your fast. And none of the disciples durst inquire of him, Who art thou? knowing that it was the Lord.

¹³ Jesus cometh, and taketh the bread, and giveth them, and the fish likewise.

¹⁴ This is now the third time that Jesus was manifested to the disciples, after that he was risen from the dead.

¹⁵ So when they had broken their fast, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.

¹⁶ He saith to him again a second time, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Tend my sheep.

¹⁷ He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of John, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

¹⁸ Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

¹⁹ Now this he spake, signifying by what manner of death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

²⁰ Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; who also leaned back on his breast at the supper, and said, Lord, who is he that betrayeth thee?

²¹ Peter therefore seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?

²² Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

⁹ So when they came ashore, they saw a charcoal fire already burning, with fish and bread placed on it.

¹⁰ Jesus told them, “Bring some of the fish that you just caught.”

¹¹ Simon Peter went up and dragged the net to land, full of one hundred fifty-three large fish. Although there were so many, the net wasn’t torn.

¹² Jesus said to them, “Come and eat breakfast.” Yet none of the disciples dared ask Him, “Who are You?” They knew that it was the Lord.

¹³ Jesus then came and took the bread and gave it to them, and likewise the fish.

¹⁴ This is now the third time that Jesus showed Himself to His disciples after He was raised from the dead.

¹⁵ When they had eaten breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you sincerely love me more than these?” He answered, “Yes, Lord. You know that I love You.” “Feed my lambs,” Jesus replied.

¹⁶ He asked him a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you sincerely love me?” He answered, “Yes, Lord. You know that I love You.” “Shepherd my sheep,” He replied.

¹⁷ He asked the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me?” Peter was grieved because He asked him the third time, “Do you love me?” He answered, “Lord, You know everything. You know that I love You.” “Feed My sheep,” Jesus replied.

¹⁸ “Most assuredly, I tell you, when you were younger, you dressed yourself and walked where you wanted to; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you don’t want to go.”

¹⁹ He said this to indicate what kind of death he would glorify God with. When He had said this, He told Peter, “Follow me!”

²⁰ Then Peter, turning around, saw a disciple following. This was the disciple who Jesus sincerely loved, the one who had also leaned on Jesus’ breast at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is going to betray You?”

²¹ Peter therefore, seeing him, asked Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?”

²² Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!”

⁹ When we got to the shore, we saw that there was a fire of burning coals there, with a large fish on the fire, and some buns.

¹⁰ Jesus said to us, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught!”

¹¹ Simon Peter got in the boat and dragged the net to the shore. It was full of large fish. There were 153 of them! But in spite of there being so many fish, the net was not torn.

¹² Jesus said to us, “Come and eat some breakfast!” None of us dared to ask him, “Who are you?” because we knew that it was the Lord.

¹³ Jesus took the buns and gave them to us. He did the same with the fish.

¹⁴ That was the third time that Jesus appeared to us disciples after God caused him to become alive again after he died.

¹⁵ When we had finished eating, Jesus said to Simon Peter, “John's son Simon, do you love me more than these other disciples do?” Peter said to him, “Yes, Lord, you know that you are dear to me (OR, that I love you).” Jesus said, “Give to those who belong to me what they need spiritually, like MET a shepherd provides food for his lambs.”

¹⁶ Jesus said to him again, “John's son Simon, do you love me?” He replied, “Yes, Lord, you know that you are dear to me (OR, that I love you).” Jesus said to him, “Take care of those who belong to me, like MET a shepherd takes care of his sheep.”

¹⁷ Jesus said to him a third time, “John's son Simon, am I really dear to you (OR, do you really love me)?” Peter was grieved because Jesus asked him this three times, and because the third time he changed the question. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that you are dear to me (OR, that I love you).” Jesus said, “Give to those who belong to me what they need spiritually, as MET a shepherd provides food for his sheep.

¹⁸ Now listen to this carefully: When you were young, you put your clothes on by yourself, and you went wherever you wanted to go. But when you are old, you will stretch out your arms, and someone will fasten them with a rope and will lead you to a place where you do not want to go.”

¹⁹ Jesus said this to indicate how Peter would die ◄ violently/on a cross► in order to honor God. Then Jesus said to him, “Keep being my faithful disciple until you die.”

²⁰ Peter turned around and saw that I was following them. I was the one who leaned close to Jesus during the Passover meal and said, “Lord, who is going to enable your enemies to seize you?”

²¹ When Peter saw me, he asked, “Lord, what is going to happen to him?”

²² Jesus said to him, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, ◄that is not your concern!/what is that to you?► RHQ You be my faithful disciple!”

¹² Jesus said to them, Come and take some food. And all the disciples were in fear of putting the question, Who are you? being conscious that it was the Lord.

¹³ Then Jesus came and took the bread and gave it to them, and the fish in the same way.

¹⁴ Now this was the third time that Jesus let himself be seen by the disciples after he had come back from the dead.

¹⁵ Then when they had taken food, Jesus said to Simon Peter, Simon, son of John, is your love for me greater than the love of these others? He said to him, Yes, Lord; you are certain of my love for you. He said to him, Then give my lambs food.

¹⁶ Again, a second time, he said to him, Simon, son of John, have you any love for me? Yes, Lord, he said, you are certain of my love for you. Then take care of my sheep, said Jesus.

¹⁷ He said to him a third time, Simon, son of John, am I dear to you? Now Peter was troubled in his heart because he put the question a third time, Am I dear to you? And he said to him, Lord, you have knowledge of all things; you see that you are dear to me. Jesus said to him, Then give my sheep food.

¹⁸ Truly I say to you, When you were young, you made yourself ready and went wherever you had a desire to go: but when you are old, you will put out your hands and another will make you ready, and you will be taken where you have no desire to go.

¹⁹ Now this he said, pointing out the sort of death by which he would give God glory. And after saying this, he said to him, Come after me.

²⁰ Then Peter, turning round, saw the disciple who was dear to Jesus coming after them — the disciple who was resting on his breast at the last meal, and said, Lord, who is it who will be false to you?

²¹ Seeing him, Peter said to Jesus, What about this man?

²² Jesus said to him, If it is my desire for him to be here till I come back, what is that to you? come yourself after me.

²¹ Peter, seeing him, says to Jesus, Lord, and what of this man?

²² Jesus says to him, If I will that he abide until I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou me.

¹⁰ Jesus saith to them: Bring hither of the fishes which you have now caught.

²¹ Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?”

²² Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”

⁹ Then, as they stepped onto the land they saw a charcoal fire in place with fish lying on it, and bread.

¹⁰ Jesus says to them, “Bring some of the fish that you have just caught.”

¹¹ Simon Peter got up and dragged the net onto the land, full of one hundred and fifty-three large fish !; and although being so many, the net was not torn.

¹² Jesus says to them, “Come have breakfast!” Well not one of the disciples dared to ask Him, “Who are you?”—knowing that it was the Lord.

¹³ Then Jesus comes and takes the bread and gives it to them, as also the fish.

¹⁴ This was already a third time that Jesus appeared to His disciples after He was raised from among the dead.

¹⁷ The third time He says to him, “Simon, son of Jonah, are you fond of me?” Peter was grieved in that the third time He said to him, “Are you fond of me?” and said to Him: “Lord, you know all things. You know that I'm fond of you!” Jesus says to him: “Feed my sheep.

¹⁸ Most assuredly I say to you, when you were younger you used to get dressed and walk where you wished; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands and another will dress you and carry you where you do not wish.”

¹⁹ (He said this to indicate the kind of death by which he would glorify God.) And upon saying that He says to him, “Follow me!”

²⁰ But turning around Peter sees the disciple whom Jesus loved following (that is the one who reclined on His chest at the supper and said, “Lord, who is the one who is betraying you?”).

²¹ Seeing him, Peter says to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?”

²² Jesus says to him: “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me.”

⁹ Once they'd landed they saw a fire with fish cooking on it, and some bread.

¹⁰ Jesus told them, “Bring some of the fish you've just caught.”

¹¹ Simon Peter went aboard and pulled the net full of fish ashore. There were 153 large fish, yet even so the net hadn't torn.

¹² “Come and eat some breakfast,” Jesus said to them. None of the disciples was brave enough to ask him, “Who are you?” They knew it was the Lord.

¹³ Jesus took the bread and gave it to them and the fish as well.

¹⁴ This was the third time Jesus had appeared to the disciples after being raised from the dead.

¹⁵ After breakfast, Jesus asked Simon Peter, “Simon, son of John, do you love me more than these?” “Yes, Lord,” he replied, “you know I love you.”

¹⁶ “Take care of my lambs,” Jesus told him. “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” he asked for the second time. “Yes, Lord,” he answered, “you know I love you.”

¹⁷ “Look after my sheep,” Jesus said to him. “Simon, son of John, do you love me?” he asked a third time. Peter was saddened that Jesus had asked him for the third time if he loved him. “Lord, you know everything. You know I love you,” Peter told him. “Take care of my sheep,” said Jesus.

¹⁸ “I tell you the truth,” said Jesus, “when you were young, you dressed yourself and went wherever you wanted. But when you're old, you'll hold out your hands and someone will dress you and take you where you don't want to go.”

¹⁵ So when they had eaten their breakfast, Yeshua said to Simon Peter, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me more than these?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I have affection for you.” He said to him, “Feed my lambs.”

¹⁶ He said to him again a second time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you love me?” He said to him, “Yes, Lord; you know that I have affection for you.” He said to him, “Tend my sheep.”

¹⁷ He said to him the third time, “Simon, son of Jonah, do you have affection for me?” Peter was grieved because he asked him the third time, “Do you have affection for me?” He said to him, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I have affection for you.” Yeshua said to him, “Feed my sheep.

¹⁸ Most certainly I tell you, when you were young, you dressed yourself and walked where you wanted to. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you don’t want to go.”

¹⁹ Now he said this, signifying by what kind of death he would glorify God. When he had said this, he said to him, “Follow me.”

²⁰ Then Peter, turning around, saw a disciple following. This was the disciple whom Yeshua loved, the one who had also leaned on Yeshua’s breast at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”

²¹ Peter, seeing him, said to Yeshua, “Lord, what about this man?”

²² Yeshua said to him, “If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you? You follow me.”

⁹ So when they got out on the land, they saw a fire of coals there, with fish and bread laid on it.

¹⁰ Yeshua said to them, “Bring some of the fish which you have just caught.”

¹¹ Simon Peter went up, and drew the net to land, full of one hundred and fifty-three great fish. Even though there were so many, the net wasn’t torn.

¹² Yeshua said to them, “Come and eat breakfast!” None of the disciples dared enquire of him, “Who are you?” knowing that it was the Lord.

¹³ Then Yeshua came and took the bread, gave it to them, and the fish likewise.

¹⁴ This is now the third time that Yeshua was revealed to his disciples after he had risen from the dead.

¹⁸ Truly, truly, I say to thee, when thou were younger, thou girdedest thee, and wanderedest where thou wouldest; but when thou shalt wax older, thou shalt hold forth thine hands, and another shall gird thee, and shall lead thee whither thou wilt not.

²⁰ Peter turned, and saw that disciple pursuing, whom Jesus loved, which also rested in the supper on his breast, and said to him, Lord, who is it, that shall betray thee?

²¹ Therefore when Peter had seen this disciple, he saith to Jesus, Lord, but what this?

²² Jesus saith to him, So I will, that he dwell till I come, what to thee? pursue thou me.

¹² Jesus saith to them, Come ye, and eat ye. And no man of them that sat at the meat, durst ask him, Who art thou, witting that it is the Lord. (Jesus said to them, Come, and eat. And none of them who sat at the meal, dared ask him, Who art thou, knowing that it was the Lord.)

¹⁷ He saith to him the third time, Simon of John (or Simon the son of John), lovest thou me? Peter was heavy, or sorry, (or was grieved), for he said to him the third time, Lovest thou me, and he saith to him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith to him, Feed my sheep (or Feed my female sheep).

¹⁹ He said this thing, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had said these things, he saith to him, (Pur)Sue thou me (or Follow me).

²⁰ Peter turned, and saw that disciple (pur)suing, whom Jesus loved, which also rested in the supper on his breast, and said to him, Lord, who is it, that shall betray thee? (Peter turned, and saw that disciple following, whom Jesus loved, who had sat close beside him at the supper, and had asked him, Lord, who is it, that shall betray thee?)

²¹ Therefore when Peter had seen this disciple, he saith to Jesus, Lord, but what (about) this (man)?

²² Jesus saith to him, So I will, that he dwell till I come, what (is it) to thee? (pur)sue thou me. (Jesus said to him, If I desire, that he live until I come, what is it to thee? follow me.)

⁹ And as thei camen doun in to the lond, thei sayn coolis liynge, and a fisch leid on, and breed.

¹⁰ Jhesus seith to hem, Bringe ye of the fyschis, whiche ye han takun now.

¹¹ Symount Petre wente vp, and drowy the nett in to the lond, ful of grete fischis, an hundrid fifti and thre; and whanne thei weren so manye, the nett was not brokun.

¹² Jhesus seith to hem, Come ye, ete ye. And no man of hem that saten at the mete, durste axe hym, Who art thou, witinge that it is the Lord.

¹³ And Jhesus cam, and took breed, an yaf to hem, and fisch also.

¹⁴ Now this thridde tyme Jhesus was schewid to hise disciplis, whanne he hadde risun ayen fro deth.

¹⁵ And whanne thei hadde etun, Jhesus seith to Simount Petre, Symount of Joon, louest thou me more than these? He seith to him, Yhe, Lord, thou woost that Y loue thee. Jhesus seith to hym, Fede thou my lambren.

¹⁸ Treuli, treuli, Y seie to thee, whanne thou were yongere, thou girdidist thee, and wandridist where thou woldist; but whanne thou schalt waxe eldere, thou schalt holde forth thin hondis, and another schal girde thee, and schal lede thee whidur thou wolt not.

¹⁹ He seide this thing, signifynge bi what deth he schulde glorifie God. And whanne he hadde seid these thingis, he seith to hym, Sue thou me.

²⁰ Petre turnede, and say thilke disciple suynge, whom Jhesus louede, which also restid in the soper on his brest, and he seide to hym, Lord, who is it, that schal bitraie thee?

²¹ Therfor whanne Petre hadde seyn this, he seith to Jhesu, Lord, but what this?

²² Jhesus seith to him, So I wole that he dwelle til that Y come, what to thee? sue thou me.

⁹ when, therefore, they came to the land, they behold a fire of coals lying, and a fish lying on it, and bread.

¹⁰ Jesus saith to them, 'Bring ye from the fishes that ye caught now;'

¹¹ Simon Peter went up, and drew the net up on the land, full of great fishes, an hundred fifty and three, and though they were so many, the net was not rent.

¹² Jesus saith to them, 'Come ye, dine;' and none of the disciples was venturing to inquire of him, 'Who art thou?' knowing that it is the Lord;

¹³ Jesus, therefore, doth come and take the bread and give to them, and the fish in like manner;

¹⁴ this is now a third time Jesus was manifested to his disciples, having been raised from the dead.

¹⁵ When, therefore, they dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, 'Simon, son of Jonas, dost thou love me more than these?' he saith to him, 'Yes, Lord; thou hast known that I dearly love thee;' he saith to him, 'Feed my lambs.'

¹⁶ He saith to him again, a second time, 'Simon, son of Jonas, dost thou love me?' he saith to him, 'Yes, Lord; thou hast known that I dearly love thee;' he saith to him, 'Tend my sheep.'

¹⁷ He saith to him the third time, 'Simon, son of Jonas, dost thou dearly love me?' Peter was grieved that he said to him the third time, 'Dost thou dearly love me?' and he said to him, 'Lord, thou hast known all things; thou dost know that I dearly love thee.' Jesus saith to him, 'Feed my sheep;

¹⁸ verily, verily, I say to thee, When thou wast younger, thou wast girding thyself and wast walking whither thou didst will, but when thou mayest be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another will gird thee, and shall carry thee whither thou dost not will;'

¹⁹ and this he said, signifying by what death he shall glorify God; and having said this, he saith to him, 'Be following me.'

²⁰ And Peter having turned about doth see the disciple whom Jesus was loving following, (who also reclined in the supper on his breast, and said, 'Sir, who is he who is delivering thee up?')

²¹ Peter having seen this one, saith to Jesus, 'Lord, and what of this one?'

²² Jesus saith to him, 'If him I will to remain till I come, what — to thee? be thou following me.' This word, therefore, went forth to the brethren that that disciple doth not die,
