John 21:18-22 in English

¹⁸ Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.

¹⁹ Now this he spake, signifying by what manner of death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me.

²⁰ Peter, turning about, seeth the disciple whom Jesus loved following; who also leaned back on his breast at the supper, and said, Lord, who is he that betrayeth thee?

²¹ Peter therefore seeing him saith to Jesus, Lord, and what shall this man do?

²² Jesus saith unto him, If I will that he tarry till I come, what is that to thee? follow thou me.

¹⁸ “Most assuredly, I tell you, when you were younger, you dressed yourself and walked where you wanted to; but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you don’t want to go.”

¹⁹ He said this to indicate what kind of death he would glorify God with. When He had said this, He told Peter, “Follow me!”

²⁰ Then Peter, turning around, saw a disciple following. This was the disciple who Jesus sincerely loved, the one who had also leaned on Jesus’ breast at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is going to betray You?”

²¹ Peter therefore, seeing him, asked Jesus, “Lord, what about this man?”

²² Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me!”

¹⁸ Now listen to this carefully: When you were young, you put your clothes on by yourself, and you went wherever you wanted to go. But when you are old, you will stretch out your arms, and someone will fasten them with a rope and will lead you to a place where you do not want to go.”

¹⁹ Jesus said this to indicate how Peter would die ◄ violently/on a cross► in order to honor God. Then Jesus said to him, “Keep being my faithful disciple until you die.”

²⁰ Peter turned around and saw that I was following them. I was the one who leaned close to Jesus during the Passover meal and said, “Lord, who is going to enable your enemies to seize you?”

²¹ When Peter saw me, he asked, “Lord, what is going to happen to him?”

²² Jesus said to him, “If I want him to remain alive until I return, ◄that is not your concern!/what is that to you?► RHQ You be my faithful disciple!”

¹⁸ Most certainly I tell you, when you were young, you dressed yourself and walked where you wanted to. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you don’t want to go.”

¹⁸ Truly I say to you, When you were young, you made yourself ready and went wherever you had a desire to go: but when you are old, you will put out your hands and another will make you ready, and you will be taken where you have no desire to go.

¹⁹ Now this he said, pointing out the sort of death by which he would give God glory. And after saying this, he said to him, Come after me.

²⁰ Then Peter, turning round, saw the disciple who was dear to Jesus coming after them — the disciple who was resting on his breast at the last meal, and said, Lord, who is it who will be false to you?

²¹ Seeing him, Peter said to Jesus, What about this man?

²² Jesus said to him, If it is my desire for him to be here till I come back, what is that to you? come yourself after me.

¹⁸ Verily, verily, I say to thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst where thou desiredst; but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and bring thee where thou dost not desire.

¹⁹ But he said this signifying by what death he should glorify God. And having said this, he says to him, Follow me.

²⁰ Peter, turning round, sees the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also leaned at supper on his breast, and said, Lord, who is it that delivers thee up?

²¹ Peter, seeing him, says to Jesus, Lord, and what of this man?

²² Jesus says to him, If I will that he abide until I come, what is that to thee? Follow thou me.

¹⁸ Amen, amen I say to thee, when thou wast younger, thou didst gird thyself, and didst walk where thou wouldst. But when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and lead thee whither thou wouldst not.

¹⁹ And this he said, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had said this, he saith to him: Follow me.

²⁰ Peter turning about, saw that disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also leaned on his breast at supper, and said: Lord, who is he that shall betray thee?

²¹ Him therefore when Peter had seen, he saith to Jesus: Lord, and what shall this man do?

²² Jesus saith to him: So I will have him to remain till I come, what is it to thee? follow thou me.

²¹ Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?”

²² Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”

¹⁸ Most assuredly I say to you, when you were younger you used to get dressed and walk where you wished; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands and another will dress you and carry you where you do not wish.”

¹⁹ (He said this to indicate the kind of death by which he would glorify God.) And upon saying that He says to him, “Follow me!”

²⁰ But turning around Peter sees the disciple whom Jesus loved following (that is the one who reclined on His chest at the supper and said, “Lord, who is the one who is betraying you?”).

²¹ Seeing him, Peter says to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?”

²² Jesus says to him: “If I want him to remain until I come, what is that to you? You follow me.”

¹⁸ “I tell you the truth,” said Jesus, “when you were young, you dressed yourself and went wherever you wanted. But when you're old, you'll hold out your hands and someone will dress you and take you where you don't want to go.”

¹⁹ Jesus said this to explain the kind of death by which he would glorify God. Then he said to Peter, “Follow me.”

²⁰ As Peter turned round, he saw the disciple Jesus loved following them, the one who had leaned over to Jesus during the supper and asked, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”

²¹ Peter asked Jesus, “What about him, Lord?”

²² Jesus told him, “If I want him to remain alive here until I return, why is that your concern? You follow me!”

¹⁸ Verely, verely I say vnto thee, When thou wast yong, thou girdedst thy selfe, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be olde, thou shalt stretch foorth thine hands, and another shall gird thee, and lead thee whither thou wouldest not.

¹⁹ And this spake he signifying by what death he shoulde glorifie God. And when he had said this, he said to him, Folowe me.

²⁰ Then Peter turned about, and sawe the disciple whom JESUS loued, folowing, which had also leaned on his breast at supper, and had saide, Lord, which is he that betrayeth thee?

²¹ When Peter therefore sawe him, he saide to Iesus, Lord, what shall this man doe?

²² Iesus said vnto him, If I will that he tarie till I come, what is it to thee? follow thou me.

²⁰ Peter turned around, and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following — the one who at the supper leant back on the Master's shoulder, and asked him who it was who would betray him.

²¹ Seeing him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, what about this man?”

²² “If it is my will that he should wait until I come,” answered Jesus, “what has that to do with you? Follow me yourself.”

¹⁸ “In truth I tell you,” he continued, “when you were young, you used to put on your own clothes, and walk wherever you wished; but, when you have grown old, you will have to stretch out your hands, while someone else puts on your clothes, and takes you where you do not wish.”

¹⁹ Jesus said this to show the death by which Peter was to honor God, and then he added, “Follow me.”

²⁰ Peter turned around, and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following — the one who at the supper leant back on the Master's shoulder, and asked him who it was who would betray him.

²¹ Seeing him, Peter said to Jesus, “Master, what about this man?”

²² “If it is my will that he should wait until I come,” answered Jesus, “what has that to do with you? Follow me yourself.”

¹⁸ Most certainly I tell you, when you were young, you dressed yourself, and walked where you wanted to. But when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you, and carry you where you don’t want to go.”

²⁰ Then Peter Rock, turning around, saw a disciple following. This was the disciple whom Yeshua Salvation felt agapao ·totally devoted love· for, the one who had also leaned on Yeshua Salvation’s chest at the supper and asked, “Lord, who is going to betray You?”

²¹ Peter Rock seeing him, said to Yeshua Salvation, “Lord, what about this man?”

²² Yeshua Salvation said to him, “If I desire that he stay until I come, what is that to you? You follow me.”

¹⁸ Verely verely I saye vnto the when thou wast yonge thou gerdedst thy selfe and walkedst whyther thou woldest: but when thou arte olde thou shalt stretche forthe thy hondes and a nother shall gyrde the and leade the whyther thou woldest not.

¹⁹ That spake he signifyinge by what deeth he shuld glorify God. And when he had sayde thus he sayd to him folowe me.

²⁰ Peter turned about and sawe that disciple who Iesus loved folowynge: which also lened on his brest at supper and sayde: Lorde which is he that shall betraye the?

²¹ When Peter sawe him he sayde to Iesus: Lorde what shall he here do?

²² Iesus sayd vnto him Yf I will have him to tary tyll I come what is that to the? folowe thou me.

¹⁸ Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to clothe yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you become old, you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will clothe you and carry you where you will not want to go.”

¹⁹ Now Jesus said this in order to indicate with what kind of death Peter would glorify God. After he had said this, he said to Peter, “Follow me.”

²⁰ Peter turned around and saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following them, the one who had also leaned back against the side of Jesus at the dinner and who had said, “Lord, who is the one who will betray you?”

²¹ Peter saw him and then said to Jesus, “Lord, what will this man do?”

²² Jesus said to him, “If I want him to stay until I come, what is that to you? Follow me.”

²² Jesus saith to him, So I will, that he dwell till I come, what to thee? pursue thou me.

¹⁸ Truly, truly, I say to thee, when thou were younger, thou girdedest thee, and wanderedest where thou wouldest; but when thou shalt wax older, thou shalt hold forth thine hands, and another shall gird thee, and shall lead thee whither thou wilt not. (Truly, I tell thee the truth, when thou were younger, thou girdedest thyself, and walkedest where thou wanted to go; but when thou shalt grow older, thou shalt hold forth thine hands, and another shall gird thee, and shall lead thee where thou desirest not.)

¹⁹ He said this thing, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had said these things, he saith to him, (Pur)Sue thou me (or Follow me).

²⁰ Peter turned, and saw that disciple (pur)suing, whom Jesus loved, which also rested in the supper on his breast, and said to him, Lord, who is it, that shall betray thee? (Peter turned, and saw that disciple following, whom Jesus loved, who had sat close beside him at the supper, and had asked him, Lord, who is it, that shall betray thee?)

²¹ Therefore when Peter had seen this disciple, he saith to Jesus, Lord, but what (about) this (man)?

²² Jesus saith to him, So I will, that he dwell till I come, what (is it) to thee? (pur)sue thou me. (Jesus said to him, If I desire, that he live until I come, what is it to thee? follow me.)

¹⁸ Treuli, treuli, Y seie to thee, whanne thou were yongere, thou girdidist thee, and wandridist where thou woldist; but whanne thou schalt waxe eldere, thou schalt holde forth thin hondis, and another schal girde thee, and schal lede thee whidur thou wolt not.

¹⁹ He seide this thing, signifynge bi what deth he schulde glorifie God. And whanne he hadde seid these thingis, he seith to hym, Sue thou me.

²⁰ Petre turnede, and say thilke disciple suynge, whom Jhesus louede, which also restid in the soper on his brest, and he seide to hym, Lord, who is it, that schal bitraie thee?

²¹ Therfor whanne Petre hadde seyn this, he seith to Jhesu, Lord, but what this?

²² Jhesus seith to him, So I wole that he dwelle til that Y come, what to thee? sue thou me.

²⁰ And Peter having turned about doth see the disciple whom Jesus was loving following, (who also reclined in the supper on his breast, and said, 'Sir, who is he who is delivering thee up?')

²¹ Peter having seen this one, saith to Jesus, 'Lord, and what of this one?'

²² Jesus saith to him, 'If him I will to remain till I come, what — to thee? be thou following me.' This word, therefore, went forth to the brethren that that disciple doth not die,
