John 20:1-5 in English

¹ Now on the first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, while it was yet dark, unto the tomb, and seeth the stone taken away from the tomb.

² She runneth therefore, and cometh to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and saith unto them, They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we know not where they have laid him.

³ Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, and they went toward the tomb.

⁴ And they ran both together: and the other disciple outran Peter, and came first to the tomb;

⁵ and stooping and looking in, he seeth the linen cloths lying; yet entered he not in.

¹ On the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb.

² Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, who Jesus loved, and told them, “They’ve taken the Lord away, out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they’ve laid Him!”

³ Then Peter and the other disciple went out, and were going to the tomb.

⁴ They both ran together, and the other disciple outran Peter and came to the tomb first.

⁵ Stooping down and looking in, He saw the strips of linen lying there, but he didn’t go in.

¹ Early on Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary, the woman from Magdala village, went to the burial cave with some other women. They saw that the stone had been removed {that someone had removed the stone} from the entrance to the cave.

² So Mary ran to where Simon Peter and I were staying in Jerusalem. She said to us, “They have taken the Lord's body out of the burial cave, and we do not know where they have put it!”

³ So Peter and I started going to the cave.

⁴ We were both running, but I ran faster than Peter and got there first.

⁵ I stooped down at the entrance and looked inside. I saw the strips of linen cloth lying there where his body had been laid, but I did not go inside.

³ So Peter and the other disciple went out to the place of the dead.

⁴ They went running together, and the other disciple got in front of Peter and came first to the hole in the rock;

⁵ And looking in, he saw the linen bands on the earth; but he did not go in,

¹ And on the first day of the week Mary of Magdala comes in early morn to the tomb, while it was still dark, and sees the stone taken away from the tomb.

² She runs therefore and comes to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple, to whom Jesus was attached, and says to them, They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we know not where they have laid him.

³ Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, and came to the tomb.

⁴ And the two ran together, and the other disciple ran forward faster than Peter, and came first to the tomb,

⁵ and stooping down he sees the linen cloths lying; he did not however go in.

⁵ And stooping to look he sees the linen strips lying there; however he did not go in.

² So she ran to tell Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, “They've taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don't know where they've put him.”

³ Then Peter and the other disciple went to the tomb.

⁴ The two of them were running together, but the other disciple ran faster and reached the tomb first.

⁵ He bent down, and looking in he saw the grave-clothes lying there, but he didn't go in.

¹ Nowe the first day of the weeke came Marie Magdalene, early when it was yet darke, vnto the sepulchre, and sawe the stone taken away from the tombe.

² Then she ranne, and came to Simon Peter, and to the other disciple whom Iesus loued, and saide vnto them, They haue taken away the Lord out of the sepulchre, and we knowe not where they haue laid him.

³ Peter therefore went forth, and the other disciple, and they came vnto the sepulchre.

⁴ So they ranne both together, but the other disciple did outrunne Peter, and came first to the sepulchre.

⁵ And he stouped downe, and sawe the linnen clothes lying: yet went he not in.

¹ Now early morning, while it was still dark, on the first day of the week (Nissan 17, the day of First Fruits #1), Mary of Magdala Rebellion of City tower went to the tomb and saw the stone taken away from the tomb.

² Therefore she ran and came to Simeon Peter Hearing Rock, and to the other disciple whom Yeshua Salvation phileo ·affectionate loved, had high regard for·, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have laid him!”

³ Therefore Peter Rock and the other disciple went out, and they went toward the tomb.

⁴ They both ran together. The other disciple outran Peter Rock, and came to the tomb first.

⁵ Stooping and looking in, he saw the linen cloths lying, yet he didn’t enter in.

¹ The morow after the saboth daye came Mary Magdalene erly when it was yet darcke vnto the sepulcre and sawe the stone taken awaye from the toumbe.

² Then she ranne and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whome Iesus loved and sayde vnto them. They have taken awaye the Lorde out of the toumbe and we cannot tell where they have layde him.

³ Peter went forth and that other disciple and came vnto the sepulcre.

⁴ They ranne bothe to gether and that other disciple dyd out runne Peter and came fyrst to the sepulcre.

⁵ And he stouped doune and sawe the lynnen clothes lyinge yet wet he not in.

¹ Now early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and she saw the stone rolled away from the tomb.

² So she ran and came to Simon Peter and to the other disciple whom Jesus loved, and she said to them, “They took away the Lord out from the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.”

³ Then Peter and the other disciple went out, and they went to the tomb.

⁴ They both ran together, and the other disciple quickly ran ahead of Peter and arrived at the tomb first.

⁵ Then stooping down, he saw the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go inside.

⁴ And they twain ran together, and that other disciple ran before Peter, and came first to the grave.

⁵ And when he stooped, he saw the sheets lying, nevertheless he entered not.

¹ And in one day of the week, Mary Magdalene came early to the grave, when it was yet dark. And she saw the stone moved away from the grave. (And early on the first day of the week, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb, when it was still dark. And she saw the stone moved away from the tomb.)

² Therefore she ran, and came to Simon Peter, and to another disciple, whom Jesus loved, and saith to them, They have taken (away) the Lord from the grave, (or and said to them, They have taken the Lord away from the tomb), and we know not, where they have laid him.

³ Therefore Peter went out, and that other disciple, and they came to the grave. (And so Peter went out, and that other disciple, and they came to the tomb.)

⁴ And they twain ran together, and that other disciple ran before Peter, and came first to the grave. (And the two men ran together, and that other disciple ran before Peter, and came to the tomb first.)

⁵ And when he stooped (down), he saw the sheets lying (there), nevertheless he entered not (or but he did not go in).

¹ And in o dai of the wouke Marie Maudeleyn cam eerli to the graue, whanne it was yit derk. And sche say the stoon moued awei fro the graue.

² Therfor sche ran, and cam to Symount Petre, and to another disciple, whom Jhesus louede, and seith to hem, Thei han takun the Lord fro the graue, and we witen not, where thei han leid hym.

³ Therfor Petre wente out, and thilke other disciple, and thei camen to the graue.

⁴ And thei tweyne runnen togidre, and thilke othere disciple ran bifor Petre, and cam first to the graue.

⁵ And whanne he stoupide, he sai the schetis liynge, netheles he entride not.

¹ And on the first of the sabbaths, Mary the Magdalene doth come early (there being yet darkness) to the tomb, and she seeth the stone having been taken away out of the tomb,

² she runneth, therefore, and cometh unto Simon Peter, and unto the other disciple whom Jesus was loving, and saith to them, 'They took away the Lord out of the tomb, and we have not known where they laid him.'

³ Peter, therefore, went forth, and the other disciple, and they were coming to the tomb,

⁴ and the two were running together, and the other disciple did run forward more quickly than Peter, and came first to the tomb,

⁵ and having stooped down, seeth the linen clothes lying, yet, indeed, he entered not.
