John 1:7-14 in English

⁷ The same came for witness, that he might bear witness of the light, that all might believe through him.

⁸ He was not the light, but came that he might bear witness of the light.

⁹ There was the true light, even the light which lighteth every man, coming into the world.

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world knew him not.

¹¹ He came unto his own, and they that were his own received him not.

¹² But as many as received him, to them gave he the right to become children of God, even to them that believe on his name:

¹³ who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

¹⁴ And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we beheld his glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father), full of grace and truth.

⁷ This man came as a witness, to testify about the light, that all through him might believe.

⁸ He wasn’t that light, but was sent as a witness of that light.

⁹ The true light that enlightens everyone was coming into the world.

¹⁰ The Word was in the world, and though the world was made through Him, the world didn’t recognize Him.

¹¹ He came to His own, and those who were His own didn’t receive Him.

¹² But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become God’s children, to those who believe in His name:

¹³ who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.

¹⁴ The Word became flesh and lived among us, and we saw His glory, the glory as of the only Son of the Father, full of grace and truth.

⁷ He came to tell people about the one who was like MET a light. He came to show that everything that the one who was like a light MET said was true, in order that he could enable all people to believe in the one who was like a light.

⁸ John himself was not the one who was like a light MET. Instead, he came to tell others about that one who was like a light.

⁹ While John was doing that, the one who was truly like a light was about to show himself to the world. He was the one who enables all people to know about God, as a light MET enables people to know what is in the darkness.

¹⁰ Although the one who was like a light was here on the earth, and although he was the one whom God caused to create everything, most people MTY, HYP did not realize who he was. (OR, although he was the one whom God caused to create everything, most people did not accept him.)

¹¹ Although he came to the land that belonged to him because he created it, most of his own people, the Jews, rejected him (OR, did not accept him).

¹² But those of us who welcomed him, God authorized that we would have a relationship with him MET like children have a relationship with their father. We were people who believed that what he said about himself MTY was true.

¹³ We became like God's children, not because our ancestors belonged to God, or because of someone's sexual desires, nor because some man desired to have children like himself. Instead, we were caused by God {God caused us} to become like his children.

¹⁴ The one who expresses MET ◄ God's character/what God is like► became a human being, and he lived among us for a while. As a result, we saw how wonderful he is. He came from God his father, and there was no other person as wonderful as he. He was wonderful because he always acted ◄kindly toward us/in ways we did not deserve►, and he always spoke truthfully to us about God.

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made through him, and the world didn’t recognize him.

¹⁰ He was in the world, the world which came into being through him, but the world had no knowledge of him.

¹¹ He came to the things which were his and his people did not take him to their hearts.

¹² To all those who did so take him, however, he gave the right of becoming children of God — that is, to those who had faith in his name:

¹³ Whose birth was from God and not from blood, or from an impulse of the flesh and man's desire.

¹⁴ And so the Word became flesh and took a place among us for a time; and we saw his glory — such glory as is given to an only son by his father — saw it to be true and full of grace.

⁷ He came for witness, that he might witness concerning the light, that all might believe through him.

⁸ He was not the light, but that he might witness concerning the light.

⁹ The true light was that which, coming into the world, lightens every man.

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world had its being through him, and the world knew him not.

¹¹ He came to his own, and his own received him not;

¹² but as many as received him, to them gave he the right to be children of God, to those that believe on his name;

¹³ who have been born, not of blood, nor of flesh's will, nor of man's will, but of God.

¹⁴ And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us (and we have contemplated his glory, a glory as of an only-begotten with a father), full of grace and truth;

⁷ This man came for a witness, to give testimony of the light, that all men might believe through him.

⁹ the true Light which illumines everyone who comes into the world.

¹⁰ He was in the world, the world that came into being by Him, yet the world did not know Him.

¹¹ He came to His own things, yet His own people did not receive Him.

¹² But, as many as did receive Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe into His name:

¹³ who were begotten, not by blood, nor by the desire of the flesh, nor by the will of a man, but by God.

¹⁴ So the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we observed His glory, glory of an Only-begotten, from the Father, full of grace and truth.

⁷ He came as a witness to explain about the light so that everyone might believe through him.

⁸ He himself was not the light, but he came to witness to the light.

⁹ The true light was coming into the world to give light to everyone.

¹⁰ He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world didn't know who he was.

¹¹ He came to his own people, but they didn't accept him.

¹² But to all those who accepted him and trusted in him, he gave the right to become God's children.

¹³ These are the children born not in the usual way, not as the result of human desire or a father's decision, but born of God.

¹⁴ The Word became human and lived among us, and we saw his glory, the glory of the Father's one and only Son, full of grace and truth.

⁷ This same came for a witnesse, to beare witnesse of that light, that all men through him might beleeue.

⁸ He was not that light, but was sent to beare witnesse of that light.

⁹ This was that true light, which lighteth euery man that commeth into the world.

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the worlde was made by him: and the worlde knewe him not.

¹¹ He came vnto his owne, and his owne receiued him not.

¹² But as many as receiued him, to them he gaue prerogatiue to be the sonnes of God, euen to them that beleeue in his Name.

¹³ Which are borne not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of ye wil of man, but of God.

¹⁴ And that Word was made flesh, and dwelt among vs, (and we sawe the glorie thereof, as the glorie of the onely begotten Sonne of the Father) full of grace and trueth.

⁷ The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe.

⁸ He was not that lyght: but to beare witnes of the lyght.

⁹ That was a true lyght which lyghteth all men that come into the worlde.

¹⁰ He was in the worlde and the worlde was made by him: and yet the worlde knewe him not.

¹¹ He cam amonge his (awne) and his awne receaved him not.

¹² But as meny as receaved him to them he gave power to be the sonnes of God in that they beleved on his name:

¹³ which were borne not of bloude nor of the will of the flesshe nor yet of the will of man: but of God.

¹⁴ And the worde was made flesshe and dwelt amonge vs and we sawe the glory of it as the glory of the only begotten sonne of the father which worde was full of grace and verite.

⁹ There was a very light (or There was a true light), which (en)lighteneth each man that cometh into this world.

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.

¹¹ He came into his own things, and his (own) received him not.

¹² But how many ever received him, he gave to them power to be made the sons of God, to them that believe in his name (or to those who believe in him);

¹³ the which not of bloods, neither of the will of (the) flesh, neither of the will of man, but be born of God. (who be born not of blood, nor by the desire of the flesh, nor by the desire of man, but be born of God.)

¹⁴ And the word was made man, and dwelled among us, and we have seen the glory of him, as the glory of the one begotten Son of the Father, full of grace and of truth. And the word, that is, God’s son, (or God’s Son), is made flesh, or man, and hath dwelled in us, and we have seen the glory of him, the glory as of the one begotten of the Father, the son (or the Son) full of grace and truth.

⁷ This man cam in to witnessyng, that he schulde bere witnessing of the liyt, that alle men schulden bileue bi hym.

⁸ He was not the liyt, but that he schulde bere witnessing of the liyt.

⁹ There was a very liyt, which liytneth ech man that cometh in to this world.

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world was maad bi hym, and the world knew hym not.

¹¹ He cam in to his owne thingis, and hise resseyueden hym not.

¹² But hou many euer resseyueden hym, he yaf to hem power to be maad the sones of God, to hem that bileueden in his name; the whiche not of bloodis,

¹³ nether of the wille of fleische, nether of the wille of man, but ben borun of God.

¹⁴ And the word was maad man, and dwellyde among vs, and we han seyn the glorie of hym, as the glorie of the `oon bigetun sone of the fadir, ful of grace and of treuthe.

⁷ this one came for testimony, that he might testify about the Light, that all might believe through him;

⁸ that one was not the Light, but — that he might testify about the Light.

⁹ He was the true Light, which doth enlighten every man, coming to the world;

¹⁰ in the world he was, and the world through him was made, and the world did not know him:
