³⁷ And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced.

³⁸ And after these things Joseph of Arimathæa, being a disciple of Jesus, but secretly for fear of the Jews, asked of Pilate that he might take away the body of Jesus: and Pilate gave him leave. He came therefore, and took away his body.

³⁹ And there came also Nicodemus, he who at the first came to him by night, bringing a mixture of myrrh and aloes, about a hundred pounds.

⁴⁰ So they took the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen cloths with the spices, as the custom of the Jews is to bury.

⁴¹ Now in the place where he was crucified there was a garden; and in the garden a new tomb wherein was never man yet laid.

⁴² There then because of the Jews’ Preparation (for the tomb was nigh at hand) they laid Jesus.

³⁷ Another Scripture says, “They will look on Him who they pierced.”

³⁷ And they fulfilled another Scripture passage that has these words: ❛They will look on the one whom they have pierced❜.

³⁸ Later, Joseph, from Arimathea town, went to Pilate and asked Pilate to allow him to take Jesus' body down from the cross. Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but he did not tell anyone that, because he was afraid of the other Jewish leaders SYN. Pilate permitted him to take Jesus' body, so he went, along with others, and they took Jesus' body down from the cross.

³⁹ Nicodemus was one of them. He was the man who previously went to visit Jesus at night. Nicodemus bought an expensive mixture of myrrh and aloe spices to put on the body. It weighed about ◄75 pounds/35 kilograms►.

⁴⁰ They took the body of Jesus and wrapped strips of linen cloth around it, putting the spices in with the strips of cloth. They did this according to the Jewish customs about burying bodies in tombs.

⁴¹ Close to the place where Jesus was crucified {where they nailed Jesus to the cross} there was a grove of trees, and at the edge of that grove was a new burial cave. Nobody had ever been put in that cave previously.

⁴² The Jewish day of rest would start at sunset, and they had to finish burying his body before then. So, since that cave was nearby, they laid Jesus' body there and rolled a huge stone in front of the entrance.

³⁷ Again another Scripture says, “They will look on him whom they pierced.”

⁴¹ Now there was a garden near the cross, and in the garden a new place for the dead in which no man had ever been put.

⁴² So they put Jesus there, because it was the Jews' day of getting ready for the Passover, and the place was near.

⁴⁰ Then they took Jesus' body and wrapped it in linen strips, with the aromatic spices, according to the burial custom of the Jews.

⁴¹ Now at the place where He was crucified there was a garden, and in the garden a new tomb in which no one had yet been buried.

⁴² So that is where they put Jesus, because of the Jews' Preparation Day, since the tomb was nearby.

³⁷ and as another Scripture says, “They will look at the one they pierced.”

³⁸ After this Joseph of Arimathea asked Pilate if he could take down the body of Jesus, and Pilate gave his permission. Joseph was a disciple of Jesus, but in secret because he feared the Jews. So Joseph came and took the body away.

³⁹ He was joined by Nicodemus, the man who had first visited Jesus at night. He brought with him a mixture of myrrh and aloes weighing about seventy-five pounds.

⁴⁰ They took Jesus' body and wrapped it in linen cloth together with the mixture of spices, in accordance with Jewish burial customs. There was a garden near where Jesus was crucified;

⁴¹ and in the garden was a new, unused tomb.

⁴² Since it was the Jewish day of preparation and the tomb was nearby, they laid Jesus to rest there.

³⁷ And againe an other Scripture saith, They shall see him whom they haue thrust through.

³⁸ And after these things, Ioseph of Arimathea (who was a disciple of Iesus, but secretly for feare of the Iewes) besought Pilate that he might take downe the bodie of Iesus. And Pilate gaue him licence. He came then and tooke Iesus body.

³⁹ And there came also Nicodemus (which first came to Iesus by night) and brought of myrrhe and aloes mingled together about an hundreth pound.

⁴⁰ Then tooke they the body of Iesus, and wrapped it in linnen clothes with the odours, as the maner of the Iewes is to burie.

⁴¹ Now in the place where he was executed on the stake there was a garden. In the garden was a new tomb in which no man had ever yet been laid.

⁴² Then because of the Judean Person from Praise Preparation Day (Nissan 14) (for the tomb was near at hand) they laid Yeshua Salvation there.

³⁷ And agayne another scripture sayth: They shall looke on him whom they pearsed.

³⁸ After that Ioseph of Aramathia (which was a disciple of Iesus: but secretly for feare of the Iewes) besought Pylate that he myght take doune the body of Iesus. And Pylate gave him licence.

³⁹ And ther cam also Nicodemus which at the beginnynge came to Iesus by nyght and brought of myrre and aloes mingled to gether aboute an hundred pounde wayght.

⁴⁰ Then toke they the body of Iesu and wounde it in lynnen clothes with the odoures as the maner of the Iewes is to bury.

(But after these things Joseph of Arimathaea beseeched Pilate, so that he could take away the body of Jesus, because he was a disciple of Jesus, but privately, or in secret, for fear of the Jews. And Pilate allowed him. And so he came, and took away the body of Jesus.)

³⁹ And Nicodemus came also, that had come to him first by night, or that had come to Jesus first in the night, (or who had first come to Jesus in the night), and brought a meddling, (or a medley, or a mixture), of myrrh and aloes, as it were an hundred pound.

⁴⁰ And they took (down) the body of Jesus, and bound it in linen clothes with sweet smelling ointments or spices, as it is (the) custom to Jews for to bury (or as is the custom of the Jews for burial).

⁴¹ And in the place where he was crucified, was a garden, and in the garden a new grave (or and in the garden was a new tomb), in which yet no man was laid or in which not yet any man was put.

⁴² Therefore there they put Jesus, for the vigil of (the) Jews’ feast, for the sepulchre was nigh. (And so they put Jesus there, because it was the eve of the Jews’ Feast, or Festival, and the tomb was nearby.) Therefore there for the making ready (day) of (the) Jews, for the sepulchre was nigh, they put Jesus. (And so because it was the preparation day of the Jews, and the tomb was nearby, they put Jesus there.)

³⁷ And eftsoone another scripture seith, Thei schulen se in whom thei piyten thorow.

³⁸ But after these thingis Joseph of Armathi preyede Pilat, that he schulde take awei the bodi of Jhesu, for that he was a disciple of Jhesu, but priui for drede of the Jewis. And Pilat suffride. And so he cam, and took awei the bodi of Jhesu.

³⁹ And Nychodeme cam also, that hadde come to hym first bi nyyt, and brouyte a meddlynge of myrre and aloes, as it were an hundrid pound.

⁴⁰ And thei token the bodi of Jhesu, and boundun it in lynun clothis with swete smellynge oynementis, as it is custom to Jewis for to birie.

⁴¹ And in the place where he was crucified, was a yerd, and in the yerd a newe graue, in which yit no man was leid.

⁴² Therfor there thei putten Jhesu, for the vigilie of Jewis feeste, for the sepulcre was niy.

⁴⁰ They took, therefore, the body of Jesus, and bound it with linen clothes with the spices, according as it was the custom of the Jews to prepare for burial;

⁴¹ and there was in the place where he was crucified a garden, and in the garden a new tomb, in which no one was yet laid;

⁴² there, therefore, because of the preparation of the Jews, because the tomb was nigh, they laid Jesus.
