John 13:7-14 in English

⁷ Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt understand hereafter.

⁸ Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.

⁹ Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

¹⁰ Jesus saith to him, He that is bathed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.

¹¹ For he knew him that should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.

¹² So when he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and sat down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?

¹³ Ye call me, Teacher, and, Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.

¹⁴ If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.

⁷ Jesus answered, “You don’t understand what I am doing now, but you will know after this.”

⁸ Peter told Him, “You will never wash my feet!” Jesus answered, “If I don’t wash you, you have no part with me.”

⁹ Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not just my feet, but also my hands and my head!”

¹⁰ Jesus said to him, “Someone who has bathed only needs to wash their feet, but is completely clean; and most of you are clean, but not all of you.”

¹¹ For He knew who would betray Him, therefore He said, “You aren’t all clean.”

¹² When He had washed their feet, He put on His outer garment and sat down again. He asked them, “Do you know what I have done to you?

¹³ You call me Teacher and Lord, and you are right in saying so, for so I am.

¹⁴ If I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet.

⁷ Jesus replied to him, “Now you do not understand the meaning of what I am doing, but you will understand later.”

⁸ Peter said, “I will never, ever, allow you to wash my feet!” Jesus replied to him, “If I do not wash you, you cannot continue ◄to be my disciple/to belong to me►.”

⁹ So Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, in that case, do not wash only my feet. Wash my hands and my head, too!”

¹⁰ Then, to show him that after God had cleansed people from being guilty for sin, they needed only for God to forgive their daily sins MET, Jesus said to him, “Those who have recently bathed need only to have their feet washed, because they get dirty very quickly on the dusty roads. The rest of their bodies are clean. Similarly, I have made you disciples free/clean from the guilt of your sins, although not all of you are free from guilt.”

¹¹ He knew which one of us was going to betray him. That is the reason he said, “Not all of you are free from guilt.”

¹² After he finished washing our feet, he put his cloak back on. Then he sat down and said to us, “Do you understand what I have done for you?

¹³ You show that you respect me by calling me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’. You are right to say that, because I am your teacher and your Lord.

¹⁴ But if I, who am your teacher and your Lord, have washed your feet, you ought to serve each other by doing things like washing each other's feet.

⁷ Jesus answered him, “You don’t know what I am doing now, but you will understand later.”

⁸ Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I don’t wash you, you have no part with me.”

⁹ Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”

⁷ And Jesus, answering, said to him, What I do is not clear to you now, but it will be clear to you in time to come.

⁸ Peter said, I will never let my feet be washed by you, never. Jesus said in answer, If I do not make you clean you have no part with me.

⁹ Simon Peter said to him, Lord, not my feet only, but my hands and my head.

¹⁰ Jesus said to him, He who is bathed has need only to have his feet washed and then he is clean all over: and you, my disciples, are clean, but not all of you.

¹¹ (He had knowledge who was false to him; that is why he said, You are not all clean.)

¹² Then, after washing their feet and putting on his robe again, he took his seat and said to them, Do you see what I have done to you?

¹³ You give me the name of Master and Lord: and you are right; that is what I am.

¹⁴ If then I, the Lord and the Master, have made your feet clean, it is right for you to make one another's feet clean.

⁷ Jesus answered and said to him, What I do thou dost not know now, but thou shalt know hereafter.

⁸ Peter says to him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, Unless I wash thee, thou hast not part with me.

⁹ Simon Peter says to him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

¹⁰ Jesus says to him, He that is washed all over needs not to wash save his feet, but is wholly clean; and ye are clean, but not all.

¹¹ For he knew him that delivered him up: on account of this he said, Ye are not all clean.

¹² When therefore he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, having sat down again, he said to them, Do ye know what I have done to you?

¹³ Ye call me the Teacher and the Lord, and ye say well, for I am so.

¹⁴ If I therefore, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet;

⁸ Peter said to Him, “You shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “Unless I wash you, you have no part with Me.”

⁹ Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head!”

¹⁰ Jesus said to him, “He that is bathed need only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and you are clean, but not all of you.”

¹¹ For He knew who would betray Him; for this reason He said, “You are not all clean.”

¹² So when He had washed their feet, and had taken His garments, He reclined again, and said to them, “Do you know what I have done to you?

¹³ You call me Teacher and Lord, and you say correctly, for so I am.

¹⁴ Therefore if I, your Lord and your Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.

⁷ Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will know by experience after this.”

⁸ Peter says to Him, “You will never ever wash my feet!!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no part with me.”

⁹ Simon Peter says to Him, “Lord, not only my feet, but also my hands and my head!”

¹⁰ Jesus says to him: “One who is bathed has no need except to wash his feet, but is clean all over. And you (pl) are clean, but not all of you.”

¹¹ (He knew who was betraying Him; that is why He said, “Not all of you are clean.”)

¹² So when Jesus had washed their feet and put His garments back on, He reclined again and said to them: “Do you know what I have done to you?

¹³ You address me as ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord’, and you speak correctly, because I am.

¹⁴ So then, if I, Lord and Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet.

⁷ Jesus replied, “You won't realize what I'm doing for you now. But one day you'll understand.”

⁸ “No!” Peter protested. “You'll never wash my feet!” Jesus replied, “If I don't wash you, you have no part with me.”

⁹ “Then, Lord, wash not just my feet but my hands and my head as well!” Simon Peter exclaimed.

¹⁰ Jesus responded, “Those who have had a bath only need to wash their feet and then they're clean all over. You are clean—but not all of you.”

¹¹ For he knew who was going to betray him. That's why he said, “Not all of you are clean.”

¹² After Jesus had washed their feet, he put his robe back on, and sat down. “Do you understand what I've done to you?” he asked them.

¹³ “You call me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that's who I am.

¹⁴ So if I, your Teacher and Lord, washed your feet, you ought to wash one another's feet.

⁷ Iesus answered and sayd vnto him, What I doe, thou knowest not nowe: but thou shalt knowe it hereafter.

⁸ Peter said vnto him, Thou shalt neuer wash my feete. Iesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou shalt haue no part with me.

⁹ Simon Peter sayd vnto him, Lord, not my feete onely, but also the hands and the head.

¹⁰ Iesus sayd to him, He that is washed, needeth not, saue to wash his feete, but is cleane euery whit: and ye are cleane, but not all.

¹¹ For hee knewe who should betray him: therefore sayd he, Ye are not all cleane.

¹² So after he had washed their feete, and had taken his garments, and was set downe againe, he sayd vnto them, Knowe ye what I haue done to you?

¹³ Ye call me the Teacher, and the Lord; and ye say well; for so I am.

¹⁴ If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet.

⁷ “You do not understand now what I am doing,” replied Jesus, “but you will learn by and by.”

⁸ “You will never wash my feet!” exclaimed Peter. “Unless I wash you,” answered Jesus, “you have nothing in common with me.”

⁹ “Then, Master, not my feet only,” exclaimed Simon Peter, “but also my hands and my head.”

¹⁰ “He who has bathed,” replied Jesus, “has no need to wash, unless it be his feet, but is altogether clean; and you,” he said to the disciples, “are clean, yet not all of you.”

¹¹ For he knew who was going to betray him, and that was why he said ‘You are not all clean.’

¹² When he had washed their feet, and had put on his upper garments and taken his place, he spoke to them again. “Do you understand what I have been doing to you?” he asked.

¹³ “You yourselves call me ‘the teacher’ and ‘the Master’, and you are right, for I am both.

¹⁴ If I, then — ‘the Master’ and ‘the teacher’ — have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another's feet;

⁷ “You do not understand now what I am doing,” replied Jesus, “but you will learn by and by.”

⁸ “You will never wash my feet!” exclaimed Peter. “Unless I wash you,” answered Jesus, “you have nothing in common with me.”

⁹ “Then, Master, not my feet only,” exclaimed Simon Peter, “but also my hands and my head.”

⁸ Peter sayd vnto him: thou shalt not wesshe my fete whill the worlde stondeth. Iesus answered him: yf I wasshe the not thou shalt have no part with me.

⁹ Simon Peter sayde vnto him: Lorde not my fete only: but also my handes and my heed.

¹⁰ Iesus sayde to him: he that is wesshed nedeth not save to wesshe his fete and is clene every whit. And ye are clene: but not all.

¹¹ For he knewe his betrayer. Therfore sayde he: ye are not all clene.

¹² After he had wesshed their fete and receaved his clothes and was set doune agayne he sayde vnto them? wot ye what I have done to you?

¹³ Ye call me master and Lorde and ye saye well for so am I.

¹⁴ If I then youre Lorde and master have wesshed youre fete ye also ought to wesshe one anothers fete.

⁷ Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you do not understand now, but you will understand this later.”

⁸ Peter said to him, “You will never wash my feet.” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you, you have no share with me.”

⁹ Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, do not only wash my feet, but also my hands and my head.”

¹⁰ Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed has no need, except to wash his feet, but he is completely clean; you are clean, but not everyone.”

¹¹ (For Jesus knew who would betray him; that is why he said, “Not all of you are clean.”)

¹² So when Jesus had washed their feet and taken his garments and sat down again, he said to them, “Do you know what I have done for you?

¹³ You call me 'teacher' and 'Lord,' and you are speaking correctly, because so I am.

¹⁴ If I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, you should also wash the feet of one another.

⁸ Peter saith to him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered to him, If I shall not wash thee, thou shalt not have part with me.

¹⁰ Jesus saith to him, He that is washed, hath no need but that he wash the feet, but he is all clean; and ye be clean, but not all.

¹¹ For he knew, who it was that should betray him; therefore he said, Ye be not all clean.

¹² And so after that he had washed their feet, he took his clothes; and when he was set to meat again, again he said to them, Ye know what I have done to you, or Know ye what I have done to you?.

¹³ Ye call me Master and Lord, and ye say well; for I am.

¹⁴ Therefore if I, Lord and Master, have washed your feet, and ye shall wash or ye owe to wash one another’s feet;

⁷ Jesus answered, and said to him, What I do, thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know afterward.

⁸ Peter saith to him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered to him, If I shall not wash thee, thou shalt not have (any) part with me.

⁹ Simon Peter saith to him, Lord, not only my feet, but both the hands and the head.

¹⁰ Jesus saith to him, He that is washed, hath no need but that he wash the feet, but he is all clean (or then he is altogether clean); and ye be clean, but not all.

¹¹ For he knew, who it was that should betray him (or who it was that would betray him); therefore he said, Ye be not all clean.

¹² And so after that he had washed their feet, he took his clothes; and when he was set to (the) meat again, again he said to them, Ye know what I have done to you or Know ye what I have done to you(?). (And so after that he had washed their feet, he took his clothes; and when he had sat down at the meal again, he said to them, Do ye understand what I have done for you?)

¹³ Ye call me Master and Lord, and ye say well; for I am. (Ye call me Teacher and Lord, and ye say correctly; for that is what I am.)

¹⁴ Therefore if I, Lord and Master, have washed your feet, and ye shall wash one another’s feet or ye owe to wash another the other’s feet; (And so, if I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, ye ought to wash one another’s feet;)

⁷ Jhesus answerde, and seide to hym, What Y do, thou wost not now; but thou schalt wite aftirward.

⁸ Petre seith to hym, Thou schalt neuere waische my feet. Jhesus answeride to hym, If Y schal not waische thee, thou schalt not haue part with me.

⁹ Symount Petre seith to hym, Lord, not oneli my feet, but bothe the hoondis and the heed.

¹⁰ Jhesus seide to hym, He that is waischun, hath no nede but that he waische the feet, but he is al clene; and ye ben clene, but not alle.

¹¹ For he wiste, who `was he that schulde bitraye hym; therfor he seide, Ye ben not alle clene.

¹² And so aftir that he hadde waischun `the feet of hem, he took hise clothis; and whanne he was set to mete ayen, eft he seide to hem, Ye witen what Y haue don to you.

¹³ Ye clepen me maistir and lord, and ye seien wel; for Y am.

¹⁴ Therfor if Y, lord and maistir, haue waischun youre feet, and ye schulen waische oon anothers feet;

⁷ Jesus answered and said to him, 'That which I do thou hast not known now, but thou shalt know after these things;'

⁸ Peter saith to him, 'Thou mayest not wash my feet — to the age.' Jesus answered him, 'If I may not wash thee, thou hast no part with me;'

⁹ Simon Peter saith to him, 'Sir, not my feet only, but also the hands and the head.'

¹⁰ Jesus saith to him, 'He who hath been bathed hath no need save to wash his feet, but he is clean altogether; and ye are clean, but not all;'

¹¹ for he knew him who is delivering him up; because of this he said, 'Ye are not all clean.'

¹² When, therefore, he washed their feet, and took his garments, having reclined (at meat) again, he said to them, 'Do ye know what I have done to you?

¹³ ye call me, The Teacher and The Lord, and ye say well, for I am;

¹⁴ if then I did wash your feet — the Lord and the Teacher — ye also ought to wash one another's feet.
