John 12:25-37 in English

²⁵ He that loveth his life loseth it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.

²⁶ If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will the Father honor.

²⁷ Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause came I unto this hour.

²⁸ Father, glorify thy name. There came therefore a voice out of heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.

²⁹ The multitude therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it had thundered: others said, An angel hath spoken to him.

³⁰ Jesus answered and said, This voice hath not come for my sake, but for your sakes.

³¹ Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

³² And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself.

³³ But this he said, signifying by what manner of death he should die.

³⁴ The multitude therefore answered him, We have heard out of the law that the Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?

³⁵ Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light among you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness overtake you not: and he that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.

³⁶ While ye have the light, believe on the light, that ye may become sons of light. These things spake Jesus, and he departed and hid himself from them.

³⁷ But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they believed not on him:

²⁵ Anyone who loves their life will lose it, and anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.

²⁶ If anyone serves me, let them follow me; and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, my Father will honor them.

²⁷ “Now my soul has become troubled; and what will I say? ‘Father, save me from this time’? No, for this purpose I came to this time.

²⁸ Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came from Heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”

²⁹ Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to Him.”

³⁰ Jesus answered, “This voice hasn’t come for my sake, but for your sakes.

³¹ Now judgment is upon this world. Now the ruler of this world will be cast out.

³² And I, if I am lifted up from the Earth, will draw everyone to myself.”

³³ He was saying this to indicate the kind of death He was about to die.

³⁴ Therefore the crowd answered Him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ is to remain forever, so how can You say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”

³⁵ Jesus told them, “The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. If you walk in the darkness, you don’t know where you are going.

³⁶ Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.” After Jesus had said this, he departed and hid from them.

³⁷ Although He had performed so many signs in front of them, they still didn’t believe in Him,

²⁵ Anyone who strongly wants to keep on living here on earth will surely lose his life forever. But anyone who is willing to die HYP for my sake will surely gain eternal life.

²⁶ If any of these Greeks or anyone else wants to serve me, they must become my disciples. Then, after they die, they will be where I am, in heaven. My Father will honor all those who serve me.

²⁷ Now I am deeply disturbed. ◄I do not know what to say./What shall I say?► RHQ Should I say, ‘ My Father, save me from this time when I will suffer and die!’? No, I should not say that, because the reason I came ◄ into this world/from heaven► was that I would suffer MTY now.

²⁸ My Father, show how great you are!” John 12:28b-36a Then God spoke EUP from heaven, saying, “I have already shown how great I am, and I will do it again!”

²⁹ The crowd that was there heard it but they did not understand the words. Some said it was thunder. Others said an angel had spoken to him.

³⁰ Jesus replied to them, “The voice that you heard speaking was God's voice, but it was not for my benefit. It was for your benefit!

³¹ Now is the time for God to judge the people in MTY the world. Now is the time when I will destroy the power of Satan, the one who rules this world.

³² But as for me, when I am lifted {when men lift me} up from the ground on a cross, I will make a way for gathering everyone to myself.”

³³ He said this to show us the way in which he was going to die.

³⁴ Someone in the crowd answered him, “We understand from the Scriptures that the Messiah will live forever. So why do you say that the one who came from heaven, who is the Messiah, will be lifted up {that men will lift up the one who came from heaven, who is the Messiah,} on a cross? What kind of man who came from heaven are you talking about? (OR, That's not the kind of Messiah we are expecting!)”

³⁵ Then Jesus said to them, “ My message is like MET a light for you. I will be with you for only a little while longer. Live and act as you should while I am still with you, because suddenly you will have no more opportunity to hear my message! You do not want to be like MET someone who cannot see where he is going anymore when it suddenly becomes dark!

³⁶ Believe in my message MET while you still have an opportunity to do it, in order that you may become people who have accepted my truth MET!” John 12:36b-43 After Jesus said those things, he left them and hid from them.

³⁷ Although he had done many miracles while people were watching, most of them refused to believe that he is ◄ the Messiah/from God►.

²⁷ Now is my soul troubled; and what am I to say? Father, keep me from this hour. No: for this purpose have I come to this hour.

²⁸ Father, give glory to your name. Then there came a voice out of heaven, saying, I have given it glory, and I will give it glory again.

²⁹ Hearing the sound, a number of people who were there said that it was thunder: others said, An angel was talking to him.

³⁰ Jesus said in answer, This voice came not for me but for you.

³¹ Now is this world to be judged: now will the ruler of this world be sent out.

³² And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will make all men come to me.

³³ (This he said, pointing to the sort of death he would have.)

³⁴ Then the people in answer said to him, The law says that the Christ will have life without end: how say you then that it is necessary for the Son of man to be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?

³⁵ Jesus said to them, For a little time longer the light will be among you; while you have the light go on walking in it, so that the dark may not overtake you: one walking in the dark has no knowledge of where he is going.

³⁶ In so far as you have the light, put your faith in the light so that you may become sons of light. With these words Jesus went away and for a time was not seen again by them.

³⁷ But though he had done such a number of signs before them, they still had no belief in him:

²⁵ He that loves his life shall lose it, and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it to life eternal.

²⁶ If any one serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there also shall be my servant. And if any one serve me, him shall the Father honour.

²⁷ Now is my soul troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But on account of this have I come to this hour.

²⁸ Father, glorify thy name. There came therefore a voice out of heaven, I both have glorified and will glorify it again.

²⁹ The crowd therefore, which stood there and heard it, said that it had thundered. Others said, An angel has spoken to him.

³⁰ Jesus answered and said, Not on my account has this voice come, but on yours.

²⁷ Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause I came unto this hour.

³² And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself.”

³³ This He said, signifying by what kind of death He was about to die.

³⁴ The crowd answered Him, “We heard from the law that the Christ abides forever; and so how do You say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”

³⁵ Then Jesus said to them, “For yet a little while longer the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you; he who walks in darkness does not know where he is going.

³⁶ While you have the light, believe in the light, so that you may become sons of light.” These things Jesus spoke, and departing, He was hidden from them.

³⁷ But even though He had done so many signs in their presence, they did not believe in Him,

²⁵ The one ‘loving’ his life will waste it, and the one ‘hating’ his life, in this world, will preserve it into eternal life.

²⁶ If anyone would serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, my servant will be too. Further, if anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.

²⁷ “Now my soul is distressed, and what should I say—‘Father, rescue me from this hour’? But this is why I came to this hour—

²⁸ ‘Father, glorify your name!’ ” Then a Voice came out of Heaven, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again!”

²⁹ So the crowd that was standing by and listening said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to Him.”

³⁰ Jesus answered and said: “It was not for my sake that this Voice came, but for your sakes.

³¹ Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be thrown out.

³² While I, if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all people to myself.”

³³ (Now He said this to indicate by what kind of death He was about to die.)

³⁴ The people answered Him: “We have heard from the Law that the Messiah remains forever; and so how can you say, ‘The Son of the Man must be lifted up’? Who is this ‘the Son of the Man’?”

³⁵ Then Jesus said to them: “The Light will be with you just a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that darkness does not overtake you; the one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.

³⁶ While you have the Light, believe into the Light, so that you may become sons of light.” Jesus said these things, and going away He was hidden from them.

³⁷ Although He had performed so many signs in their presence, they were not believing into Him;

²⁵ If you love your own life you will lose it, but if you don't love your own life in this world you will keep your life forever.

²⁶ If you want to serve me you need to follow me. My servants will be where I am, and my Father will honor anyone who serves for me.

²⁷ Now I am troubled. What should I say? ‘Father, save me from this coming time of suffering?’ No, for this is why I came—to go through this time of suffering.

²⁸ Father, show the glory of your character.” A voice came from heaven, saying, “I have shown its glory, and I will show it again.”

²⁹ The crowd that was standing there heard it. Some said it thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.

³⁰ Jesus told them, “This voice spoke not for my sake, but for yours.

³¹ Now is the judgment of this world; now the prince of this world will be thrown out.

³² But when I am lifted up from the earth I will attract everyone to me.”

³³ (He said this to point out the kind of death he was going to die.)

³⁴ The crowd responded, “The Law tells us that the Messiah will live forever, so how can you say the Son of man must be ‘lifted up’? Who is this ‘Son of man’?”

³⁵ Jesus replied, “The light is here with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light so that the darkness doesn't overtake you. Those who walk in the dark don't know where they're going.

³⁶ Put your trust in the light while you still have it so that you can become children of light.” When Jesus had told them this, he left and hid himself from them.

³⁷ But despite all the miracles he had done in their presence, they still did not trust in Jesus.

²⁸ Father, glorifie thy Name. Then came there a voyce from heauen, saying, I haue both glorified it, and will glorifie it againe.

²⁹ Then saide the people that stoode by, and heard, that it was a thunder: other said, An Angel spake to him.

³⁰ Iesus answered, and said, This voyce came not because of me, but for your sakes.

³¹ Now is the iudgement of this world: nowe shall the prince of this world be cast out.

³² And I, if I were lift vp from the earth, will drawe all men vnto me.

³³ Nowe this sayd he, signifying what death he should die.

³⁴ The people answered him, We haue heard out of the Law, that that Christ bideth for euer: and howe sayest thou, that that Sonne of man must be lift vp? Who is that Sonne of man?

³⁵ Then Iesus sayd vnto them, Yet a litle while is the light with you: walke while ye haue that light, lest the darkenes come vpon you: for hee that walketh in the darke, knoweth not whither he goeth.

³⁶ While ye haue that light, beleeue in that light, that ye may be the children of the light. These things spake Iesus, and departed, and hid himselfe from them.

²⁷ Now I am distressed at heart and what can I say? Father, bring me safe through this hour — yet it was for this reason that I came to this hour —

²⁸ Father, honour your own name.” At this there came a voice from heaven, which said, “I have already honoured it, and I will honour it again.”

²⁹ The crowd of bystanders, who heard the sound, said that it was thundering. Others said, “An angel has been speaking to him.”

³⁰ “It was not for my sake that the voice came,” said Jesus, “but for yours.

³¹ Now this world is on its trial. Now the Spirit that is ruling this world will be driven out;

³² and I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”

³³ By these words he indicated what death he was destined to die.

³⁴ “We,” replied the people, “have learnt from the Law that the Christ is to remain for ever; how is it, then, that you say that the Son of Man must be ‘lifted up’ Who is this ‘Son of Man’?”

³⁵ “Only a little while longer,” answered Jesus, “will you have the light amongst you. Travel on while you have the light, so that darkness may not overtake you; he who travels in the darkness does not know where he is going.

³⁶ While you still have the light, believe in the light, so that you may be children of light.” After he had said this, Jesus went away, and hid himself from them.

³⁷ But, though Jesus had given so many signs of his mission before their eyes, they still did not believe in him,

²⁵ A person who loves their life loses it; while someone who hates their life in the present world will preserve it for eternal life.

²⁶ If someone is ready to serve me, let them follow me; and where I am, there my servant will be also. If a person is ready to serve me, my Father will honor them.

²⁷ Now I am distressed at heart and what can I say? Father, bring me safe through this hour — yet it was for this reason that I came to this hour —

²⁸ Father, honor your own name.” At this there came a voice from heaven, which said, “I have already honored it, and I will honor it again.”

²⁹ The crowd of bystanders, who heard the sound, said that it was thundering. Others said, “An angel has been speaking to him.”

³⁰ “It was not for my sake that the voice came,” said Jesus, “but for yours.

³¹ Now this world is on its trial. Now the Spirit that is ruling this world will be driven out;

³² and I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”

³³ By these words he indicated what death he was destined to die.

²⁸ Abba ·Father familiar, Dear Dad·, glorify your name!” Then there came a voice out of the sky, saying, “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.”

²⁹ The multitude therefore, who stood by and heard it, said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”

³⁰ Yeshua Salvation answered, “This voice has not come for my sake, but for your sakes.

³¹ Now is the judgment of this world. Now the prince of this world will be cast out.

³² And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”

³³ But he said this, signifying by what kind of death he should die.

²⁷ Now is my soule troubled and what shall I saye? Father delyver me from this houre: but therfore came I vnto this houre.

²⁸ Father glorify thy name. Then came ther a voyce from heaven: I have glorified it and will glorify it agayne.

²⁹ Then sayd the people that stode by and hearde: it thoundreth. Other sayde an angell spake to him.

³⁰ Iesus answered and sayde: this voyce cam not because of me but for youre sakes.

³¹ Now is the iudgement of this worlde: now shall the prince of this worlde be cast out.

³² And I yf I were lifte vp from the erthe will drawe all men vnto me.

³³ This sayde Iesus signifyinge what deeth he shuld dye.

³⁴ The people answered him: We have hearde of the lawe that Christ bydeth ever: and how sayest thou then that the sonne of man must be lifte vp? who is that sonne of man?

³⁵ Then Iesus sayde vnto them: yet a lytell whyle is the light with you. Walke whill ye have light lest the darcknes come on you. He that walketh in the darke wotteth not whither he goeth.

³⁶ Whyll ye have light beleve on the light that ye maye be the chyldren of light. These thinges spake Iesus and departed and hyd him silfe from them.

³⁷ And though he had done so many myracles before them yet beleved not they on him,

³⁶ While you have the light, believe in the light so that you may be sons of light.” Jesus said these things and then departed and hid from them.

³³ And he said this thing, signifying by what death he was to die.

³⁴ And the people answered to him, We have heard of the law, that Christ dwelleth without end; and how sayest thou, It behooveth man’s Son to be areared? Who is this man’s Son?

³⁵ And then Jesus saith to them, Yet a little light is in you; walk ye, the while ye have light, that darkness catch you not; he that wandereth in darknesses, knoweth not whither he goeth.

³⁶ While ye have light, believe ye in the light, that ye be the children of light. Jesus spake these things, and went, and hid him from them.

³⁷ And when he had done so many miracles or so many signs before them, they believed not in him;

²⁵ He that loveth his life, shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, keepeth it into everlasting life (or keepeth it safe for eternal life).

²⁶ If any man serve me, (pur)sue he me (or follow me); and where I am, there my minister or my servant shall be. If any man serve me, my Father shall worship him (or my Father shall honour him).

²⁷ Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour; but therefore I came into this hour or but for that thing I came into this hour;

²⁸ Father, clarify thy name. And a voice came from heaven, and said, And I have clarified (it), and again I shall clarify (it). (Father, glorify thy name. And a voice came from heaven, and said, I have glorified it, and I shall glorify it again.)

²⁹ Therefore the people that stood (there), and heard, said, that thunder was made; other men said, an angel spake to him.

³⁰ Jesus answered, and said, This voice came not for me, but for you.

³¹ Now is the doom of the world, now the prince of this world shall be cast out. (Now is the Judgement of this world, now the Prince of this world shall be thrown out.)

³² And if I shall be enhanced from the earth, I shall draw all things to myself. (And if I shall be raised or lifted up from the earth, then I shall draw everyone to me.)

³³ And he said this thing, signifying by what death he was to die.

³⁴ And the people answered to him, We have heard of the law, that Christ dwelleth into without end; and how sayest thou, It behooveth man’s Son to be areared? Who is this man’s Son? (And the people said to him, We have heard in the Law, that the Messiah remaineth forever; so how sayest thou, It behooveth the Son of man to be raised up? Who is this Son of man?)

³⁵ And then Jesus saith to them, Yet a little light is in you; walk ye, the while ye have light, that (the) darkness(es) catch you not; he that wandereth in (the) darknesses, knoweth not whither he goeth. (And then Jesus said to them, Yet a little light is in you, or There is but a little light left to you; walk ye, the while ye have the light, so that the darkness catch you not; he who walketh, or who goeth, in the darkness, knoweth not where he goeth.)

³⁶ While ye have (the) light, believe ye in the light, (so) that ye be the children of (the) light. Jesus spake these things, and went, and hid him(self) from them.

³⁷ And when he had done so many miracles or so many signs before them, they believed not in him; (And though he had done so many miracles before them, they still did not believe in him;)

²⁵ but if it be deed, it bryngith myche fruyt. He that loueth his lijf, schal leese it; and he that hatith his lijf in this world, kepith it in to euerlastynge lijf.

²⁶ If ony man serue me, sue he me; and where Y am, there my mynystre schal be. If ony man serue me, my fadir schal worschipe hym.

²⁷ Now my soule is troublid, and what schal Y seie? Fadir, saue me fro this our; but therfor Y cam in to this our;

²⁸ fadir, clarifie thi name. And a vois cam fro heuene, and seide, And Y haue clarified, and eft Y schal clarifie.

²⁹ Therfor the puple that stood, and herde, seide, that `thundur was maad; othere men seide, an aungel spak to hym.

³⁰ Jhesus answerde, and seide, This vois cam not for me, but for you.

³¹ Now is the doom of the world, now the prince of this world schal be cast out.

³² And if Y schal be enhaunsid fro the erthe, Y schal drawe alle thingis to my silf.

³³ And he seide this thing, signifiynge bi what deth he `was to die.

³⁴ And the puple answeride to hym, We han herd of the lawe, that Crist dwellith with outen ende; and hou seist thou, It bihoueth mannys sone to be arerid?

³⁵ Who is this mannus sone? And thanne Jhesus seith to hem, Yit a litil liyt is in you; walke ye, the while ye han liyt, that derknessis catche you not; he that wandrith in derknessis, woot nere whidur he goith.

³⁶ While ye han liyt, bileue ye in liyt, that ye be the children of liyt. Jhesus spak these thingis, and wente, and hidde hym fro hem.

³⁷ And whanne he hadde don so many myraclis bifor hem, thei bileueden not `in to hym;

²⁵ he who is loving his life shall lose it, and he who is hating his life in this world — to life age-during shall keep it;

²⁶ if any one may minister to me, let him follow me, and where I am, there also my ministrant shall be; and if any one may minister to me — honour him will the Father.

²⁷ 'Now hath my soul been troubled, and what? shall I say — Father, save me from this hour? — but because of this I came to this hour;

²⁸ Father, glorify Thy name.' There came, therefore, a voice out of the heaven, 'I both glorified, and again I will glorify it;'

²⁹ the multitude, therefore, having stood and heard, were saying that there hath been thunder; others said, 'A messenger hath spoken to him.'

³⁰ Jesus answered and said, 'Not because of me hath this voice come, but because of you;

³¹ now is a judgment of this world, now shall the ruler of this world be cast forth;

³² and I, if I may be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself.'

³³ And this he said signifying by what death he was about to die;

³⁴ the multitude answered him, 'We heard out of the law that the Christ doth remain — to the age; and how dost thou say, That it behoveth the Son of Man to be lifted up? who is this — the Son of Man?'
