John 12:2-39 in American Standard Version (1901)

2 So they made him a supper there: and Martha served; but Lazarus was one of them that sat at meat with him.
3 Mary therefore took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odor of the ointment.
4 But Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, that should betray him, saith,
5 Why was not this ointment sold for three hundred shillings, and given to the poor?
6 Now this he said, not because he cared for the poor; but because he was a thief, and having the bag took away what was put therein.
7 Jesus therefore said, Suffer her to keep it against the day of my burying.
8 For the poor ye have always with you; but me ye have not always.
9 The common people therefore of the Jews learned that he was there: and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 But the chief priests took counsel that they might put Lazarus also to death;
11 because that by reason of him many of the Jews went away, and believed on Jesus.
12 On the morrow a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 took the branches of the palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried out, Hosanna: Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel.
14 And Jesus, having found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written,
15 Fear not, daughter of Zion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass’s colt.
16 These things understood not his disciples at the first: but when Jesus was glorified, then remembered they that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things unto him.
17 The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, bare witness.
18 For this cause also the multitude went and met him, for that they heard that he had done this sign.
19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, Behold how ye prevail nothing; lo, the world is gone after him.
20 Now there were certain Greeks among those that went up to worship at the feast:
21 these therefore came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, Sir, we would see Jesus.
22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew: Andrew cometh, and Philip, and they tell Jesus.
23 And Jesus answereth them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a grain of wheat fall into the earth and die, it abideth by itself alone; but if it die, it beareth much fruit.
25 He that loveth his life loseth it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.
26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will the Father honor.
27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause came I unto this hour.
28 Father, glorify thy name. There came therefore a voice out of heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.
29 The multitude therefore, that stood by, and heard it, said that it had thundered: others said, An angel hath spoken to him.
30 Jesus answered and said, This voice hath not come for my sake, but for your sakes.
31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.
32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself.
33 But this he said, signifying by what manner of death he should die.
34 The multitude therefore answered him, We have heard out of the law that the Christ abideth for ever: and how sayest thou, The Son of man must be lifted up? who is this Son of man?
35 Jesus therefore said unto them, Yet a little while is the light among you. Walk while ye have the light, that darkness overtake you not: and he that walketh in the darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 While ye have the light, believe on the light, that ye may become sons of light. These things spake Jesus, and he departed and hid himself from them.
37 But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they believed not on him:
38 that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? And to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed?

John 12:2-39 in God's Living Word

2 There they made Him a supper, and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him.
3 Then Mary took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
4 Then one of Jesus’ disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who was about to betray Him, said,
5 “Why wasn’t this fragrant oil sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”
6 Now he said this, not because he was concerned about the poor, but because he was a thief, and since he had the money box, he used to steal from what was put into it.
7 Jesus therefore said, “Leave her alone. She has kept this for the day of my burial.
8 You will always have the poor among you, but you won’t always have me.”
9 Then a great multitude of the Jews learned that He was there; and they came, not just for Jesus’ sake, but also so that they could see Lazarus, who He had raised from the dead.
10 So the chief priests plotted to kill Lazarus too,
11 because on account of him many of the Jews were going away, and were believing in Jesus.
12 The next day, when a great multitude that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and shouted: “Hosanna! ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the LORD!’ The King of Israel!”
14 Then Jesus, finding a young donkey, sat on it, as it is written:
15 “Don’t be afraid, Daughter of Zion; look, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey’s colt.”
16 His disciples didn’t understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.
17 So the crowd that had been with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to testify.
18 The crowd also met Him because they heard that He had done this sign.
19 Then the Pharisees said among themselves, “You see that you are accomplishing nothing. Look, the whole world has gone after Him!”
20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who came up to worship at the feast.
21 Then they came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and told him, “Sir, we would like to see Jesus.”
22 Philip came and told Andrew, then Andrew and Philip came and told Jesus.
23 Jesus answered them, saying, “The time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
24 Most assuredly, I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone, but if it dies, it produces many grains.
25 Anyone who loves their life will lose it, and anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.
26 If anyone serves me, let them follow me; and where I am, there my servant will be also. If anyone serves me, my Father will honor them.
27 “Now my soul has become troubled; and what will I say? ‘Father, save me from this time’? No, for this purpose I came to this time.
28 Father, glorify Your name.” Then a voice came from Heaven, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”
29 Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to Him.”
30 Jesus answered, “This voice hasn’t come for my sake, but for your sakes.
31 Now judgment is upon this world. Now the ruler of this world will be cast out.
32 And I, if I am lifted up from the Earth, will draw everyone to myself.”
33 He was saying this to indicate the kind of death He was about to die.
34 Therefore the crowd answered Him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ is to remain forever, so how can You say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up’? Who is this Son of Man?”
35 Jesus told them, “The light is with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that the darkness may not overtake you. If you walk in the darkness, you don’t know where you are going.
36 Believe in the light while you have the light, so that you may become children of light.” After Jesus had said this, he departed and hid from them.
37 Although He had performed so many signs in front of them, they still didn’t believe in Him,
38 so that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: “Lord, who has believed our report? And who has the arm of the LORD been revealed to?”
39 Therefore they couldn’t believe, because Isaiah said again:

John 12:2-39 in Translation for Translators

2 There they gave a dinner to honor Jesus. Martha served the meal. Her younger brother, Lazarus, was among the people who were eating with Jesus.
3 Then Mary took a bottle of expensive perfume called nard and poured it on Jesus' feet to honor him. Then she wiped his feet with her hair. The whole house was filled with the beautiful smell of the perfume.
4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, (OR, Judas, the man from Kerioth village) objected. He was the one who later enabled Jesus' enemies to seize him.
5 He said, “◄We should have sold this perfume and given the money to poor people!/Why did we not sell this perfume and give the money for it to the poor people?► RHQ We could have gotten three hundred days' wages for it!”
6 He said that, not because he cared about the poor people, but instead, because he was a thief. He was the one who kept the bag of funds that people gave to help Jesus and us his disciples, and he often stole some of the money that was {that people} put into it.
7 Then Jesus said, “Do not bother her! She bought this perfume in order to save it until the day when they will bury me after I die.
8 There will always be poor people among you, so you can help them whenever you want to. But I will not be with you much longer, so it is good that she showed right now how much she appreciates me.”
9 A large crowd of Jews heard people say that Jesus was there in Bethany. So they came, not only to see Jesus but also to see Lazarus, the man whom he had caused to become alive again after he died.
10 So the chief priests decided to kill Lazarus also,
11 because many of the Jews were deserting them and going to Jesus and believing in him because of Jesus causing Lazarus to be alive again.
12 The next day the huge crowd of people that had come to Jerusalem for the Passover celebration heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem.
13 So they cut branches from some palm trees and took the branches out of the city to wave them when they met him. Some of them were shouting things like, “Hooray!” “May the Lord God bless the one who is coming with his authority MTY!” Some other people were shouting, “ May God bless the King of Israel!”
14 When Jesus came near to Jerusalem, he got a young donkey and sat on it as he rode into the city. By doing this, he fulfilled what had been written {what a prophet had written} in Scripture,
15 You people of Jerusalem, do not be afraid! Look! Your king is coming! He is riding on a donkey's colt!
16 At first we disciples did not understand those things. But after Jesus had returned to heaven, we realized that those things had been written {that a prophet had written those things} about him, and that by doing those things for him the people had fulfilled what the prophet prophesied.
17 The crowd that was with him continued to tell other people that he called Lazarus to come out of the tomb, and that Lazarus had then become alive again.
18 Because of that, many people, because they heard others say that he had performed this miracle, went to meet him.
19 So the Pharisees said to each other, “It is obvious that we are making no progress in trying to stop him! It looks like HYP everyone MTY is becoming his disciple!”
20 Among those who went up to Jerusalem to worship God during the Passover celebration were some Greeks.
21 They came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida town in Galilee province. They wanted him to do something for them. They said, “Sir, we would like to talk with Jesus.”
22 So after Philip went and told that to Andrew, they both went and told Jesus.
23 Then, to show them that he must die in order to give eternal life to non-Jews like those Greeks, Jesus replied to them, “It is time for God to honor me, the one who came from heaven. That will happen when I die.
24 Listen to this carefully: My life is like a seed MET. If someone does not plant a kernel of grain in the ground, it does not change. It remains only one seed. But if it changes after it is planted in the ground, it will grow and produce many seeds.
25 Anyone who strongly wants to keep on living here on earth will surely lose his life forever. But anyone who is willing to die HYP for my sake will surely gain eternal life.
26 If any of these Greeks or anyone else wants to serve me, they must become my disciples. Then, after they die, they will be where I am, in heaven. My Father will honor all those who serve me.
27 Now I am deeply disturbed. ◄I do not know what to say./What shall I say?► RHQ Should I say, ‘ My Father, save me from this time when I will suffer and die!’? No, I should not say that, because the reason I came ◄ into this world/from heaven► was that I would suffer MTY now.
28 My Father, show how great you are!” John 12:28b-36a Then God spoke EUP from heaven, saying, “I have already shown how great I am, and I will do it again!”
29 The crowd that was there heard it but they did not understand the words. Some said it was thunder. Others said an angel had spoken to him.
30 Jesus replied to them, “The voice that you heard speaking was God's voice, but it was not for my benefit. It was for your benefit!
31 Now is the time for God to judge the people in MTY the world. Now is the time when I will destroy the power of Satan, the one who rules this world.
32 But as for me, when I am lifted {when men lift me} up from the ground on a cross, I will make a way for gathering everyone to myself.”
33 He said this to show us the way in which he was going to die.
34 Someone in the crowd answered him, “We understand from the Scriptures that the Messiah will live forever. So why do you say that the one who came from heaven, who is the Messiah, will be lifted up {that men will lift up the one who came from heaven, who is the Messiah,} on a cross? What kind of man who came from heaven are you talking about? (OR, That's not the kind of Messiah we are expecting!)”
35 Then Jesus said to them, “ My message is like MET a light for you. I will be with you for only a little while longer. Live and act as you should while I am still with you, because suddenly you will have no more opportunity to hear my message! You do not want to be like MET someone who cannot see where he is going anymore when it suddenly becomes dark!
36 Believe in my message MET while you still have an opportunity to do it, in order that you may become people who have accepted my truth MET!” John 12:36b-43 After Jesus said those things, he left them and hid from them.
37 Although he had done many miracles while people were watching, most of them refused to believe that he is ◄ the Messiah/from God►.
38 Their stubbornness and refusal to believe was similar to the stubbornness of the people that the prophet Isaiah wrote about long ago: Lord, ◄hardly anyone has believed our message!/who has believed our message?► RHQ Most people refused to accept it, even though you showed them your power!
39 That was the reason why they were unable to believe. It was like Isaiah wrote somewhere else that God said:

15 “Don’t be afraid, daughter of Zion. Behold, your King comes, sitting on a donkey’s colt.”
16 His disciples didn’t understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that they had done these things to him.

20 Now there were certain Greeks among those who went up to worship at the feast.
21 Therefore, these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we want to see Jesus.”
22 Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn, Andrew came with Philip, and they told Jesus.
23 Jesus answered them, “The time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
24 Most certainly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.
25 He who loves his life will lose it. He who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life.

34 The multitude answered him, “We have heard out of the law that the Christ remains forever. How do you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up?’ Who is this Son of Man?”
35 Jesus therefore said to them, “Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness doesn’t overtake you. He who walks in the darkness doesn’t know where he is going.
36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become children of light.” Jesus said these things, and he departed and hid himself from them.

John 12:2-39 in Bible in Basic English

2 So they made him a meal there, and he was waited on by Martha, and Lazarus was among those who were seated with him at table.
3 Then Mary, taking a pound of perfumed oil of great value, put it on the feet of Jesus and made them dry with her hair: and the house became full of the smell of the perfume.
4 But one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot (who was to give him up), said,
5 Why was not this perfume traded for three hundred pence, and the money given to the poor?
6 (He said this, not because he had any love for the poor; but because he was a thief, and, having the money-bag, took for himself what was put into it.)
7 Then Jesus said, Let her be. Let her keep what she has for the day of my death.
8 The poor you have ever with you, but me you have not for ever.
9 Then a great number of the Jews had news that he was there: and they came, not only because of Jesus, but so that they might see Lazarus who had been dead and to whom he had given life.
10 Now there was talk among the chief priests of putting Lazarus to death;
11 For because of him a great number of the Jews went away and had belief in Jesus.
12 The day after, a great number of people who were there for the feast, when they had the news that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 Took branches of palm-trees and went out to him, crying, A blessing on him who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel!
14 And Jesus saw a young ass and took his seat on it; as the Writings say,
15 Have no fear, daughter of Zion: see your King is coming, seated on a young ass.
16 (These things were not clear to his disciples at first: but when Jesus had been lifted up into his glory, then it came to their minds that these things in the Writings were about him and that they had been done to him.)
17 Now the people who were with him when his voice came to Lazarus in the place of the dead, and gave him life again, had been talking about it.
18 And that was the reason the people went out to him, because it had come to their ears that he had done this sign.
19 Then the Pharisees said one to another, You see, you are unable to do anything: the world has gone after him.
20 Now there were some Greeks among the people who had come up to give worship at the feast:
21 They came to Philip, who was of Beth-saida in Galilee, and made a request, saying, Sir, we have a desire to see Jesus.
22 Philip went and gave word of it to Andrew; and Andrew went with Philip to Jesus.
23 And Jesus said to them in answer, The hour of the glory of the Son of man has come.
24 Truly I say to you, If a seed of grain does not go into the earth and come to an end, it is still a seed and no more; but through its death it gives much fruit.
25 He who is in love with life will have it taken from him; and he who has no care for his life in this world will keep it for ever and ever.
26 If any man is my servant, let him come after me; and where I am, there will my servant be. If any man becomes my servant, my Father will give him honour.
27 Now is my soul troubled; and what am I to say? Father, keep me from this hour. No: for this purpose have I come to this hour.
28 Father, give glory to your name. Then there came a voice out of heaven, saying, I have given it glory, and I will give it glory again.
29 Hearing the sound, a number of people who were there said that it was thunder: others said, An angel was talking to him.
30 Jesus said in answer, This voice came not for me but for you.
31 Now is this world to be judged: now will the ruler of this world be sent out.
32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will make all men come to me.
33 (This he said, pointing to the sort of death he would have.)
34 Then the people in answer said to him, The law says that the Christ will have life without end: how say you then that it is necessary for the Son of man to be lifted up? Who is this Son of man?
35 Jesus said to them, For a little time longer the light will be among you; while you have the light go on walking in it, so that the dark may not overtake you: one walking in the dark has no knowledge of where he is going.
36 In so far as you have the light, put your faith in the light so that you may become sons of light. With these words Jesus went away and for a time was not seen again by them.
37 But though he had done such a number of signs before them, they still had no belief in him:
38 So that the words of the prophet Isaiah might come true, when he said, Lord, who has any belief in our preaching? and the arm of the Lord, to whom has it been unveiled?
39 For this reason they were unable to have belief, because Isaiah said again,

5 Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?
6 But he said this, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief and had the bag, and carried what was put into it.
7 Jesus therefore said, Suffer her to have kept this for the day of my preparation for burial;
8 for ye have the poor always with you, but me ye have not always.
9 A great crowd therefore of the Jews knew that he was there; and they came, not because of Jesus only, but also that they might see Lazarus whom he raised from among the dead.
10 But the chief priests took counsel that they might kill Lazarus also,
11 because many of the Jews went away on his account and believed on Jesus.
12 On the morrow a great crowd who came to the feast, having heard that Jesus is coming into Jerusalem,

23 But Jesus answered them saying, The hour is come that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except the grain of wheat falling into the ground die, it abides alone; but if it die, it bears much fruit.
25 He that loves his life shall lose it, and he that hates his life in this world shall keep it to life eternal.
26 If any one serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there also shall be my servant. And if any one serve me, him shall the Father honour.
27 Now is my soul troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But on account of this have I come to this hour.
28 Father, glorify thy name. There came therefore a voice out of heaven, I both have glorified and will glorify it again.
29 The crowd therefore, which stood there and heard it, said that it had thundered. Others said, An angel has spoken to him.
30 Jesus answered and said, Not on my account has this voice come, but on yours.
31 Now is the judgment of this world; now shall the prince of this world be cast out:
32 and I, if I be lifted up out of the earth, will draw all to me.
33 But this he said signifying by what death he was about to die.
34 The crowd answered him, We have heard out of the law that the Christ abides for ever; and how sayest thou that the Son of man must be lifted up? Who is this, the Son of man?

2 And they made him a supper there: and Martha served: but Lazarus was one of them that were at table with him.
3 Mary therefore took a pound of ointment of right spikenard, of great price, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.
4 Then one of his disciples, Judas Iscariot, he that was about to betray him, said:

12 And on the next day, a great multitude that was to come to the festival day, when they had heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,

16 These things his disciples did not know at the first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written of him, and that they had done these things to him.
17 The multitude therefore gave testimony, which was with him, when he called Lazarus out of the grave, and raised him from the dead.
18 For which reason also the people came to meet him, because they heard that he had done this miracle.
19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves: Do you see that we prevail nothing? behold, the whole world is gone after him.
20 Now there were certain Gentiles among them, who came up to adore on the festival day.
21 These therefore came to Philip, who was of Bethsaida of Galilee, and desired him, saying: Sir, we would see Jesus.
22 Philip cometh, and telleth Andrew. Again Andrew and Philip told Jesus.
23 But Jesus answered them, saying: The hour is come, that the Son of man should be glorified.
24 Amen, amen I say to you, unless the grain of wheat falling into the ground die,
25 Itself remaineth alone. But if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit. He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, keepeth it unto life eternal.
26 If any man minister to me, let him follow me; and where I am, there also shall my minister be. If any man minister to me, him will my Father honour.
27 Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour. But for this cause I came unto this hour.

35 Jesus therefore said to them: Yet a little while, the light is among you. Walk whilst you have the light, that the darkness overtake you not. And he that walketh in darkness, knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 Whilst you have the light, believe in the light, that you may be the children of light. These things Jesus spoke; and he went away, and hid himself from them.
37 And whereas he had done so many miracles before them, they believed not in him:

2 So they gave a dinner for Him there—Martha was serving, while Lazarus was one of those reclining at the table with Him.
3 Then Mary, bringing a pound of pure oil of nard, very costly, anointed Jesus' feet, and wiped His feet with her hair! And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.
4 Then one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon's son (who was about to betray Him), said,
5 “Why wasn't this oil sold for 300 denarii and given to the poor?”
6 (Now he did not say this because the poor mattered to him, but because he was a thief and had the money box; and used to pilfer what was put in it.)
7 So Jesus said: “Let her be; she has performed this with a view to my burial.
8 For you always have the poor with you, but you do not always have me.”
9 Then a large crowd of the Jews learned that He was there; and they came, not only because of Jesus but also to see Lazarus, whom He had raised from the dead.
10 So the chief priests decided to kill Lazarus as well,
11 in that because of him many of the Jews were defecting and believing into Jesus.
12 The next day a large crowd that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming into Jerusalem,
13 took branches from palm trees and went out to meet Him. And they started shouting: “Hosanna!” “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” “King of Israel!”
14 And finding a young donkey Jesus sat on it; just as it is written:
15 “Fear no more, daughter of Zion. Look, your King is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!”
16 (Now His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him, and they had done them to Him.)
17 So the crowd that had been with Him when He called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to testify.
18 That is also why the crowd met Him, because they heard that He had performed this sign.
19 So the Pharisees said among themselves: “You can see that you are not making any difference! Just look, the world has gone off after Him!”
20 Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the feast.
21 So these men approached Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and requested of him saying, “Sir, we want to see Jesus.”
22 Philip goes and tells Andrew, and in turn Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
23 But Jesus answered them saying: “The hour has come for the Son of the Man to be glorified.
24 Most assuredly I say to you, if a grain of wheat, having fallen into the ground, does not die, it remains alone; but if it dies it bears a lot of fruit.
25 The one ‘loving’ his life will waste it, and the one ‘hating’ his life, in this world, will preserve it into eternal life.
26 If anyone would serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, my servant will be too. Further, if anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
27 “Now my soul is distressed, and what should I say—‘Father, rescue me from this hour’? But this is why I came to this hour—
28 ‘Father, glorify your name!’ ” Then a Voice came out of Heaven, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again!”

31 Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be thrown out.
32 While I, if I be lifted up from the earth, I will draw all people to myself.”
33 (Now He said this to indicate by what kind of death He was about to die.)
34 The people answered Him: “We have heard from the Law that the Messiah remains forever; and so how can you say, ‘The Son of the Man must be lifted up’? Who is this ‘the Son of the Man’?”
35 Then Jesus said to them: “The Light will be with you just a little longer. Walk while you have the light, so that darkness does not overtake you; the one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.
36 While you have the Light, believe into the Light, so that you may become sons of light.” Jesus said these things, and going away He was hidden from them.
37 Although He had performed so many signs in their presence, they were not believing into Him;
38 so that the word spoken by Isaiah the prophet should be fulfilled: “Lord, who has believed what we heard? And to whom has the arm of the Lord really been revealed?”

2 There a dinner was arranged in his honor. Martha helped serve the food while Lazarus sat at the table with Jesus and the others guests.
3 Mary brought a pint of pure nard perfume and anointed Jesus' feet, wiping them dry with her hair. The scent of the perfume filled the whole house.
4 But one of the disciples, Judas Iscariot, who would later betray Jesus, asked,
5 “Why wasn't this perfume sold and the money given to the poor? It was worth three hundred denarii.”
6 He wasn't saying this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief. He was the one who looked after the disciples' money and he often took some for himself.
7 “Don't criticize her,” Jesus replied. “She did this in preparation for the day of my burial.
8 You'll always have the poor here with you, but you won't always have me here.”
9 A large crowd had found out that he was there. They came there not just to see Jesus but because they wanted to see Lazarus, the man Jesus had raised from the dead.
10 So the chief priests planned to kill Lazarus as well,
11 since it was because of him that many Jews were no longer following them but putting their trust in Jesus.
12 The following day the crowds of people who had come for the Passover festival heard that Jesus was on his way to Jerusalem.
13 They cut off palm branches and went to welcome him, shouting, “Hosanna! Blessed is the one coming in the name of the Lord. Blessed is the king of Israel.”
14 Jesus found a young donkey and rode on it, as Scripture says:
15 “Don't be afraid, daughter of Zion. Look, your king is coming, riding a donkey's colt.”
16 At the time, Jesus' disciples did not understand what these things meant. It was only later when he was glorified that they realized what had happened had been prophesied and applied to him.
17 Many in the crowd had seen Jesus call Lazarus from the tomb and raise him from the dead and were telling the story.
18 That was the reason so many people went to meet Jesus—because they had heard about this miracle.
19 The Pharisees said to one other, “Look, we're getting nowhere. Everyone's running after him.”
20 Now some Greeks had come to the festival to worship.
21 They came to Philip of Bethsaida in Galilee, and said, “Sir, we'd like to see Jesus.”
22 Philip went and told Andrew. Then they both went to Jesus and told him.
23 Jesus replied, “The time has come for the Son of man to be glorified.
24 I tell you the truth: unless a grain of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains just one grain. But if it dies, it produces many more grains of wheat.
25 If you love your own life you will lose it, but if you don't love your own life in this world you will keep your life forever.
26 If you want to serve me you need to follow me. My servants will be where I am, and my Father will honor anyone who serves for me.
27 Now I am troubled. What should I say? ‘Father, save me from this coming time of suffering?’ No, for this is why I came—to go through this time of suffering.
28 Father, show the glory of your character.” A voice came from heaven, saying, “I have shown its glory, and I will show it again.”
29 The crowd that was standing there heard it. Some said it thundered; others said an angel had spoken to him.
30 Jesus told them, “This voice spoke not for my sake, but for yours.
31 Now is the judgment of this world; now the prince of this world will be thrown out.
32 But when I am lifted up from the earth I will attract everyone to me.”
33 (He said this to point out the kind of death he was going to die.)
34 The crowd responded, “The Law tells us that the Messiah will live forever, so how can you say the Son of man must be ‘lifted up’? Who is this ‘Son of man’?”
35 Jesus replied, “The light is here with you for a little longer. Walk while you have the light so that the darkness doesn't overtake you. Those who walk in the dark don't know where they're going.
36 Put your trust in the light while you still have it so that you can become children of light.” When Jesus had told them this, he left and hid himself from them.
37 But despite all the miracles he had done in their presence, they still did not trust in Jesus.
38 This fulfilled the message of Isaiah the prophet who said, “Lord, who has believed what we told them? To whom has the Lord's power been revealed?”
39 They were not able to trust him, and as a result they fulfilled what Isaiah also said:

29 Then saide the people that stoode by, and heard, that it was a thunder: other said, An Angel spake to him.

31 Now is the iudgement of this world: nowe shall the prince of this world be cast out.
32 And I, if I were lift vp from the earth, will drawe all men vnto me.

34 The people answered him, We haue heard out of the Law, that that Christ bideth for euer: and howe sayest thou, that that Sonne of man must be lift vp? Who is that Sonne of man?
35 Then Iesus sayd vnto them, Yet a litle while is the light with you: walke while ye haue that light, lest the darkenes come vpon you: for hee that walketh in the darke, knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 While ye haue that light, beleeue in that light, that ye may be the children of the light. These things spake Iesus, and departed, and hid himselfe from them.

John [Yah is gracious] 12:2-39 in One Unity Resource Bible

2 So they made him a supper there. Martha Lady mistress, Strong bitterness served, but Lazarus Help of God was one of those who sat at the table with him.
3 Mary Rebellion, therefore, took a pound of ointment of pure nard, very precious, and anointed the feet of Yeshua Salvation, and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the ointment.
4 Then Judas Iscariot Praised Dagger-man, Simeon Hearing’s son, one of his disciples, who would betray him, said,
5 “Why was this ointment not sold for three hundred denarii (300 days wages), and given to the poor?”
6 Now he said this, not because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and having the money box, used to steal what was put into it.
7 But Yeshua Salvation said, “Leave her alone. She has kept this for the day of my burial.
8 For you always have the poor with you, but you don’t always have me.”
9 A large crowd therefore of the Jews Praisers learned that he was there, and they came, not for Yeshua Salvation's sake only, but that they might see Lazarus Help of God also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 But the chief priests conspired to put Lazarus Help of God to death also,
11 because on account of him many of the Jews Praisers went away and believed in Yeshua Salvation.
12 On the next day a great multitude had come to the feast. When they heard that Yeshua Salvation was coming to Jerusalem City of peace,
13 they took the branches of the palm trees, and went out to meet him, shouting, “ Hosanna! ·Save now!· Blessed is he who comes in the name of MarYah Master Yahweh, the Melek Isra'el King of God prevails!”
14 Yeshua Salvation, having found a young donkey, sat on it. As it is written,
15 “Don’t be afraid, daughter of Zion Mountain ridge, Marking. Behold, your King comes, sitting on a donkey’s colt.”
16 His disciples didn’t understand these things at first, but when Yeshua Salvation was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that they had done these things to him.
17 The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus Help of God out of the tomb, and raised him from the dead, was testifying about it.
18 For this cause also the multitude went and met him, because they heard that he had done this sign.
19 The Pharisees Separated therefore said among themselves, “See how you accomplish nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him.”
20 Now there were certain Greeks among those that went up to worship at the feast.
21 These, therefore, came to Philip Loves horses, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee District, Circuit, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we want to see Yeshua Salvation.”
22 Philip Loves horses came and told Andrew Manly, and in turn, Andrew Manly came with Philip Loves horses, and they told Yeshua Salvation.
23 Yeshua Salvation answered them, “The time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
24 Most certainly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.
25 He who phileo ·affectionately loves, has high regard for· his life will lose it. He who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life.
26 If anyone serves me, let him follow me. Where I am, there will my servant also be. If anyone serves me, haAbba ·the Father· will honor him.
27 “Now my soul is troubled. What shall I say? ‘ Abba ·Father familiar, Dear Dad·, save me from this time?’ But for this cause I came to this time.
28 Abba ·Father familiar, Dear Dad·, glorify your name!” Then there came a voice out of the sky, saying, “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.”
29 The multitude therefore, who stood by and heard it, said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”
30 Yeshua Salvation answered, “This voice has not come for my sake, but for your sakes.
31 Now is the judgment of this world. Now the prince of this world will be cast out.
32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”
33 But he said this, signifying by what kind of death he should die.
34 The multitude answered him, “We have learned from the Torah ·Teaching· that the Messiah Anointed one remains forever. How do you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up?’ Who is this Son of Man?”
35 Yeshua Salvation therefore said to them, “Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness does not overtake you. He who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going.
36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become children of light.” Yeshua Salvation said these things, and he departed and hid himself from them.
37 But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they didn’t believe in him,
38 that the word of Isaiah Salvation of Yah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, “ Adonai, who has believed our report? To has the arm of Yahweh been revealed?”
39 For this cause they couldn’t believe, for Isaiah Salvation of Yah said again,

2 There they made him a supper and Martha served: But Lazarus was one of them that sate at the table with him.
3 Then toke Mary a pounde of oyntmet called Nardus perfecte and precious and anoynted Iesus fete and wipt his fete with her heer and the housse was filled of the savre of the oyntmet.
4 Then sayde one of his disciples name Iudas Iscariot Simons sonne which afterwarde betrayed him:
5 why was not this oyntmet solde for thre hondred pence and geve to the poore?
6 This sayde he not that he cared for the pooer: but because he was a thefe and kept the bagge and bare that which was geven.
7 Then sayde Iesus: Let her alone agaynst the daye of my buryinge she kept it.
8 The poore all wayes shall ye have with you but me shall ye not all wayes have.
9 Moche people of the Iewes had knowledge that he was there. And they came not for Iesus sake only but that they myght se Lazarus also whom he raysed from deeth.
10 The hye prestes therfore held a counsell that they myght put Lazarus to deeth also
11 because that for his sake many of the Iewes went awaye and beleved on Iesus.
12 On the morowe moche people that were come to the feast when they hearde that Iesus shuld come to Ierusalem
13 toke braunches of palme trees and went and met him and cryed: Hosanna blessed is he that in the name of the Lorde commeth kynge of Israel.
14 And Iesus got a yonge asse and sate theron accordinge to that which was writte:
15 feare not doughter of Sion beholde thy kynge cometh sittinge on an asses coolte.
16 These thinges vnderstode not his disciples at the fyrst: but when Iesus was gloryfied then remembryd they that soche thinges were written of him and that soche thinges they had done vnto him.
17 The people that was with him when he called Lazarus out of his grave and raysed him from deeth bare recorde.
18 Therfore met him the people be cause they hearde that he had done soche a myracle.
19 The Pharises therfore sayde amonge them selves: perceave ye how we prevayle no thinge? beholde the worlde goth awaye after him.
20 Ther were certayne Grekes amonge them that came to praye at the feast:
21 the same cam to Philip which was of Bethsayda a cyte in Galile and desired him sayinge: Syr we wolde fayne se Iesus.
22 Philip came and tolde Andrew. And agayne Andrew and Philip tolde Iesus.
23 And Iesus answered them sayinge: the houre is come that the sonne of man must be glorified.
24 Verely verely I saye vnto you except the wheate corne fall into the grounde and dye it bydeth alone. Yf it dye it brengeth forth moche frute.
25 He that loveth his lyfe shall destroye it: and he that hateth his lyfe in this worlde shall kepe it vnto lyfe eternall.
26 If eny man mynister vnto me let him folowe me and where I am there shall also my minister be. And yf eny man minister vnto me him will my father honoure.
27 Now is my soule troubled and what shall I saye? Father delyver me from this houre: but therfore came I vnto this houre.
28 Father glorify thy name. Then came ther a voyce from heaven: I have glorified it and will glorify it agayne.
29 Then sayd the people that stode by and hearde: it thoundreth. Other sayde an angell spake to him.
30 Iesus answered and sayde: this voyce cam not because of me but for youre sakes.
31 Now is the iudgement of this worlde: now shall the prince of this worlde be cast out.
32 And I yf I were lifte vp from the erthe will drawe all men vnto me.
33 This sayde Iesus signifyinge what deeth he shuld dye.
34 The people answered him: We have hearde of the lawe that Christ bydeth ever: and how sayest thou then that the sonne of man must be lifte vp? who is that sonne of man?
35 Then Iesus sayde vnto them: yet a lytell whyle is the light with you. Walke whill ye have light lest the darcknes come on you. He that walketh in the darke wotteth not whither he goeth.
36 Whyll ye have light beleve on the light that ye maye be the chyldren of light. These thinges spake Iesus and departed and hyd him silfe from them.
37 And though he had done so many myracles before them yet beleved not they on him,
38 that the sayinge of Esayas the Prophet myght be fulfilled that he spake. Lorde who shall beleve oure sayinge? And to whom ys the arme of the Lorde opened?

2 So they made him a dinner there, and Martha was serving, but Lazarus was one of those who was lying down at the table with Jesus.
3 Then Mary took a litra of perfume made of very precious pure nard, anointed the feet of Jesus with it, and wiped his feet with her hair. The house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.
4 Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, the one who would betray him, said,
5 “Why was this perfume not sold for three hundred denarii and given to the poor?”
6 Now he said this, not because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief. He had the moneybag and would steal from what was put in it.
7 Jesus said, “Allow her to keep what she has for the day of my burial.
8 You will always have the poor with you. But you will not always have me.”
9 Now a large crowd of the Jews learned that Jesus was there, and they came, not only for Jesus, but also to see Lazarus, whom Jesus had raised from the dead.
10 The chief priests conspired together so that they might also put Lazarus to death;
11 for it was because of him that many of the Jews went away and believed in Jesus.
12 On the next day a great crowd came to the festival. When they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem,
13 they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet him and cried out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel.”
14 Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it; as it was written,

16 His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, they remembered that these things had been written about him and that they had done these things to him.
17 Now the crowd testified that they had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him up from the dead.
18 It was also for this reason that the crowd went out to meet him, because they heard that he had done this sign.
19 The Pharisees therefore said among themselves, “Look, you can do nothing; see, the world has gone after him.”
20 Now certain Greeks were among those who were going up to worship at the festival.
21 These went to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we want to see Jesus.”

9 A large crowd therefore of the Judeans learnt that he was there; and they came, not for Yeshua’s sake only, but that they might see Lazarus also, whom he had raised from the dead.
10 But the chief priests conspired to put Lazarus to death also,
11 because on account of him many of the Judeans went away and believed in Yeshua.
12 On the next day a great multitude had come to the feast. When they heard that Yeshua was coming to Jerusalem,
13 they took the branches of the palm trees and went out to meet him, and cried out, “Hoshia'na! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, the King of Israel!”
14 Yeshua, having found a young donkey, sat on it. As it is written,
15 “Don’t be afraid, daughter of Zion. Behold, your King comes, sitting on a donkey’s colt.”
16 His disciples didn’t understand these things at first, but when Yeshua was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about him, and that they had done these things to him.
17 The multitude therefore that was with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead was testifying about it.
18 For this cause also the multitude went and met him, because they heard that he had done this sign.
19 The Pharisees therefore said amongst themselves, “See how you accomplish nothing. Behold, the world has gone after him.”
20 Now there were certain Greeks amongst those who went up to worship at the feast.
21 Therefore, these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida of Galilee, and asked him, saying, “Sir, we want to see Yeshua.”
22 Philip came and told Andrew, and in turn, Andrew came with Philip, and they told Yeshua.
23 Yeshua answered them, “The time has come for the Son of Man to be glorified.
24 Most certainly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains by itself alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit.
25 He who loves his life will lose it. He who hates his life in this world will keep it to eternal life.
26 If anyone serves me, let him follow me. Where I am, there my servant will also be. If anyone serves me, the Father will honour him.
27 “Now my soul is troubled. What shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this time?’ But I came to this time for this cause.
28 Father, glorify your name!” Then a voice came out of the sky, saying, “I have both glorified it and will glorify it again.”
29 Therefore the multitude who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.”
30 Yeshua answered, “This voice hasn’t come for my sake, but for your sakes.
31 Now is the judgement of this world. Now the prince of this world will be cast out.
32 And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.”
33 But he said this, signifying by what kind of death he should die.
34 The multitude answered him, “We have heard out of the law that the Messiah remains forever. How do you say, ‘The Son of Man must be lifted up?’ Who is this Son of Man?”
35 Yeshua therefore said to them, “Yet a little while the light is with you. Walk while you have the light, that darkness doesn’t overtake you. He who walks in the darkness doesn’t know where he is going.
36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become children of light.” Yeshua said these things, and he departed and hid himself from them.
37 But though he had done so many signs before them, yet they didn’t believe in him,
38 that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke: “Lord, who has believed our report? To whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
39 For this cause they couldn’t believe, for Isaiah said again:

John 12:2-39 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling

2 And they made to him a supper there, and Martha ministered to him; and Lazarus was one of the men that sat at the meat with him.
3 Therefore Mary took a pound of ointment of true nard or spikenard precious, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hairs; and the house was full-filled with the savour of the ointment.
4 Therefore Judas Iscariot, one of his disciples, that was to betray him, said,
5 Why is not this ointment sold for three hundred pence, and given to poor men?
6 But he said this thing, not for it pertained to him of needy men, but for he was a thief, and had the purses, and bare those things that were sent.
7 Therefore Jesus said, Suffer ye her, that into the day of my burying she keep that;
8 for ye shall evermore have poor men with you, but ye shall not ever-more have me.
9 Therefore much people of the Jews knew, that Jesus was there; and they came, not only for Jesus, but to see Lazarus, whom he had raised from death.
10 But the princes of priests thought to slay Lazarus,
11 for many of the Jews went away for him, and believed in Jesus.
12 But on the morrow much people, that came together to the feast day, when they had heard, that Jesus came to Jerusalem,

16 His disciples knew not first these things, but when Jesus was glorified, then they had mind, that these things were written of him, and these things they did to him.
17 Therefore the people bare witness-ing, that was with him, when he called Lazarus from the grave, and raised him from death.
18 And therefore the people came, and met with him, for they heard that he had done this sign.
19 Therefore the Pharisees said to themselves, Ye see, that we profit nothing; lo! all the world hath gone after him.

22 Philip cometh, and saith to Andrew; and again Andrew and Philip said to Jesus.
23 And Jesus answered to them, and said, The hour cometh, that man’s Son be clarified.
24 Truly, truly, I say to you, but a corn of wheat fall into the earth, and be dead, it dwelleth alone; but if it be dead, it bringeth forth much fruit.
25 He that loveth his life, shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world, keepeth it into everlasting life.
26 If any man serve me, pursue he me; and where I am, there my minister or my servant shall be. If any man serve me, my Father shall worship him.
27 Now my soul is troubled, and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour; but therefore or but for that thing I came into this hour;
28 Father, clarify thy name. And a voice came from heaven, and said, And I have clarified, and again I shall clarify.
29 Therefore the people that stood, and heard, said, that thunder was made; other men said, an angel spake to him.
30 Jesus answered, and said, This voice came not for me, but for you.
31 Now is the doom of the world, now the prince of this world shall be cast out.
32 And if I shall be enhanced from the earth, I shall draw all things to myself.
33 And he said this thing, signifying by what death he was to die.
34 And the people answered to him, We have heard of the law, that Christ dwelleth without end; and how sayest thou, It behooveth man’s Son to be areared? Who is this man’s Son?
35 And then Jesus saith to them, Yet a little light is in you; walk ye, the while ye have light, that darkness catch you not; he that wandereth in darknesses, knoweth not whither he goeth.
36 While ye have light, believe ye in the light, that ye be the children of light. Jesus spake these things, and went, and hid him from them.
37 And when he had done so many miracles or so many signs before them, they believed not in him;
38 that the word of Isaiah, the prophet, should be fulfilled, which he said, Lord, who hath believed to our hearing, and to whom is the arm of the Lord showed?
39 Therefore they might not believe, for again Isaiah said,

John 12:2-39 in Young's Literal Translation

2 they made, therefore, to him a supper there, and Martha was ministering, and Lazarus was one of those reclining together (at meat) with him;
3 Mary, therefore, having taken a pound of ointment of spikenard, of great price, anointed the feet of Jesus and did wipe with her hair his feet, and the house was filled from the fragrance of the ointment.
4 Therefore saith one of his disciples — Judas Iscariot, of Simon, who is about to deliver him up —
5 'Wherefore was not this ointment sold for three hundred denaries, and given to the poor?'
6 and he said this, not because he was caring for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the bag, and what things were put in he was carrying.
7 Jesus, therefore, said, 'Suffer her; for the day of my embalming she hath kept it,
8 for the poor ye have always with yourselves, and me ye have not always.'
9 A great multitude, therefore, of the Jews knew that he is there, and they came, not because of Jesus only, but that Lazarus also they may see, whom he raised out of the dead;
10 and the chief priests took counsel, that also Lazarus they may kill,
11 because on account of him many of the Jews were going away, and were believing in Jesus.
12 On the morrow, a great multitude that came to the feast, having heard that Jesus doth come to Jerusalem,
13 took the branches of the palms, and went forth to meet him, and were crying, 'Hosanna, blessed is he who is coming in the name of the Lord — the king of Israel;'
14 and Jesus having found a young ass did sit upon it, according as it is written,
15 'Fear not, daughter of Sion, lo, thy king doth come, sitting on an ass' colt.'
16 And these things his disciples did not know at the first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were having been written about him, and these things they did to him.
17 The multitude, therefore, who are with him, were testifying that he called Lazarus out of the tomb, and did raise him out of the dead;
18 because of this also did the multitude meet him, because they heard of his having done this sign,
19 the Pharisees, therefore, said among themselves, 'Ye see that ye do not gain anything, lo, the world did go after him.'
20 And there were certain Greeks out of those coming up that they may worship in the feast,
21 these then came near to Philip, who is from Bethsaida of Galilee, and were asking him, saying, 'Sir, we wish to see Jesus;'
22 Philip cometh and telleth Andrew, and again Andrew and Philip tell Jesus.
23 And Jesus responded to them, saying, 'The hour hath come that the Son of Man may be glorified;
24 verily, verily, I say to you, if the grain of the wheat, having fallen to the earth, may not die, itself remaineth alone; and if it may die, it doth bear much fruit;
25 he who is loving his life shall lose it, and he who is hating his life in this world — to life age-during shall keep it;
26 if any one may minister to me, let him follow me, and where I am, there also my ministrant shall be; and if any one may minister to me — honour him will the Father.
27 'Now hath my soul been troubled, and what? shall I say — Father, save me from this hour? — but because of this I came to this hour;
28 Father, glorify Thy name.' There came, therefore, a voice out of the heaven, 'I both glorified, and again I will glorify it;'
29 the multitude, therefore, having stood and heard, were saying that there hath been thunder; others said, 'A messenger hath spoken to him.'
30 Jesus answered and said, 'Not because of me hath this voice come, but because of you;
31 now is a judgment of this world, now shall the ruler of this world be cast forth;
32 and I, if I may be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto myself.'
33 And this he said signifying by what death he was about to die;
34 the multitude answered him, 'We heard out of the law that the Christ doth remain — to the age; and how dost thou say, That it behoveth the Son of Man to be lifted up? who is this — the Son of Man?'
35 Jesus, therefore, said to them, 'Yet a little time is the light with you; walk while ye have the light, that darkness may not overtake you; and he who is walking in the darkness hath not known where he goeth;
36 while ye have the light, believe in the light, that sons of light ye may become.' These things spake Jesus, and having gone away, he was hid from them,
37 yet he having done so many signs before them, they were not believing in him,
38 that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said, 'Lord, who gave credence to our report? and the arm of the Lord — to whom was it revealed?'
39 Because of this they were not able to believe, that again Isaiah said,
