Help us?

John 11:12-31 in American Standard Version (1901)

12 The disciples therefore said unto him, Lord, if he is fallen asleep, he will recover.
13 Now Jesus had spoken of his death: but they thought that he spake of taking rest in sleep.
14 Then Jesus therefore said unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
16 Thomas therefore, who is called Didymus, said unto his fellow-disciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
17 So when Jesus came, he found that he had been in the tomb four days already.
18 Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off;
19 and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary, to console them concerning their brother.
20 Martha therefore, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary still sat in the house.
21 Martha therefore said unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.
22 And even now I know that, whatsoever thou shalt ask of God, God will give thee.
23 Jesus saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again.
24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth on me, though he die, yet shall he live;
26 and whosoever liveth and believeth on me shall never die. Believest thou this?
27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I have believed that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, even he that cometh into the world.
28 And when she had said this, she went away, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Teacher is here, and calleth thee.
29 And she, when she heard it, arose quickly, and went unto him.
30 (Now Jesus was not yet come into the village, but was still in the place where Martha met him.)
31 The Jews then who were with her in the house, and were consoling her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up quickly and went out, followed her, supposing that she was going unto the tomb to weep there.

John 11:12-31 in God's Living Word

12 The disciples therefore said to Him, “Lord, if he is sleeping, he will recover.”
13 Now Jesus had spoken of his death, but they thought that He was talking about literal sleep.
14 So Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead,
15 and I am glad for your sakes that I wasn’t there, so that you may believe — but let’s go to him.”
16 Therefore Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, “Let’s go, too, that we may die with Him.”
17 When Jesus arrived, he found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb four days.
18 Bethany was near Jerusalem, about fifteen stadia away,
19 and many of the Jews had come to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
20 When Martha heard that Jesus was coming, she went out to meet him, but Mary stayed home.
21 Then Martha said to Jesus, “Lord, if You had been here, my brother wouldn’t have died.
22 Even now I know that God will give you whatever You ask of Him.”
23 Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise again.”
24 Martha replied, “I know that he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day.”
25 Jesus told her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me will live even if they die,
26 and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
27 “Yes, Lord,” she answered, “I have believed that You are the Christ, God’s Son, who was to come into the world.”
28 When she had said this, she went back and called Mary, her sister, saying secretly, “The Teacher is here, and is asking for you.”
29 When she heard this, she arose quickly, and went to Him.
30 Jesus had not yet entered the village, but was still at the place where Martha met Him.
31 The Jews who were with her in the house, consoling her, saw Mary get up quickly and go out. They followed her, saying, “She is going to the tomb to weep there.”

John 11:12-31 in King James (Authorized) Version

12 Then said his disciples, Lord, if he sleep, he shall do well.
13 Howbeit Jesus spake of his death: but they thought that he had spoken of taking of rest in sleep.
14 Then said Jesus unto them plainly, Lazarus is dead.
15 And I am glad for your sakes that I was not there, to the intent ye may believe; nevertheless let us go unto him.
16 Then said Thomas, which is called Didymus, unto his fellowdisciples, Let us also go, that we may die with him.
17 Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.
18 Now Bethany was nigh unto Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off:
19 And many of the Jews came to Martha and Mary, to comfort them concerning their brother.
20 Then Martha, as soon as she heard that Jesus was coming, went and met him: but Mary sat still in the house.
21 Then said Martha unto Jesus, Lord, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died.

24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day.
25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:
26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?
27 She saith unto him, Yea, Lord: I believe that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, which should come into the world.
28 And when she had so said, she went her way, and called Mary her sister secretly, saying, The Master is come, and calleth for thee.
29 As soon as she heard that, she arose quickly, and came unto him.
30 Now Jesus was not yet come into the town, but was in that place where Martha met him.
31 The Jews then which were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose up hastily and went out, followed her, saying, She goeth unto the grave to weep there.

John 11:12-31 in Translation for Translators

12 So we said to him, “Lord, if he is sleeping, he will get well. So you do not need to risk your life by going there.”
13 Jesus was speaking figuratively about Lazarus' death, but we thought that he was talking about really being asleep.
14 So then he told us plainly, “Lazarus is dead.
15 But for your sake I am glad that I was not there when he died, because I want you to believe more firmly that I ◄ am the Messiah/came from God►. So now, instead of staying here, let's go to him.”
16 Then Thomas, who was {whom they} called ❛The Twin❜, said to the rest of us disciples, “Let's all go, so that we may die with Jesus when his enemies kill him.”
17 When we arrived close to Bethany, someone told Jesus that Lazarus had died and had been buried and his body had been in the tomb for four days.
18 Bethany is less than ◄two miles/three kilometers► from Jerusalem.
19 Many Jews had come from Jerusalem to console Martha and Mary over the death of their younger brother.
20 When Martha heard someone say that Jesus was coming, she went along the road to meet him. But Mary stayed in the house.
21 When Martha got to where Jesus was, she said to him, “Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died because you would have healed him!
22 But I know that even now God will do for you whatever you ask concerning my brother.”
23 Jesus said to her, “Your brother will become alive again!”
24 Martha said to him, “I know that he will become alive again when all people become alive again on the Judgment day.”
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the one who enables people to become alive again and who causes people to live eternally. Those who believe in me, even if they die, will live again.
26 Furthermore, all those who believe in me while they are alive, their souls will not die forever. Do you believe that?”
27 She said to him, “Yes, Lord! I believe that you are the Messiah, ◄the Son of God/the man who is also God►. You are the one God promised to send into the world!”
28 After she said that, she returned to the house and took her younger sister, Mary, aside and said to her, “The Teacher is close to our village, and he wants to talk to you.”
29 When Mary heard that, she got up quickly and went to him.
30 Jesus had not yet entered the village; he was still at the place where Martha met him.
31 The Jews who were in the house with Mary, consoling her, saw Mary get up quickly and go outside. So they followed her, thinking that she was going to the tomb where they had buried Lazarus, in order to cry there.

12 Then his disciples said to him, Lord, if he is resting he will get well.
13 Jesus, however, was talking of his death: but they had the idea that he was talking about taking rest in sleep.
14 Then Jesus said to them clearly, Lazarus is dead.
15 And because of you I am glad I was not there, so that you may have faith; but let us go to him.
16 Then Thomas, who was named Didymus, said to the other disciples, Let us go so that we may be with him in death.
17 Now when Jesus came, he made the discovery that Lazarus had been put into the earth four days before.
18 Now Bethany was near to Jerusalem, about two miles away;
19 And a number of Jews had come to Martha and Mary to give them comfort about their brother.
20 When Martha had the news that Jesus was on the way, she went out to him, but Mary did not go from the house.
21 Then Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if you had been here my brother would not be dead.
22 But I am certain that, even now, whatever request you make to God, God will give it to you.
23 Jesus said to her, Your brother will come to life again.
24 Martha said to him, I am certain that he will come to life again when all come back from the dead at the last day.
25 Jesus said to her, I am myself that day and that life; he who has faith in me will have life even if he is dead;
26 And no one who is living and has faith in me will ever see death. Is this your faith?
27 She said to him, Yes, Lord: my faith is that you are the Christ, the Son of God, who was to come into the world.
28 And having said this, she went away and said secretly to her sister Mary, The Master is here and has sent for you.
29 And Mary, hearing this, got up quickly and went to him.
30 Now Jesus had not at this time come into the town, but was still in the place where Martha had seen him.
31 Then the Jews who were with her in the house, comforting her, when they saw Mary get up quickly and go out, went after her in the belief that she was going to the place of the dead and would be weeping there.

12 The disciples said, “Lord, if he's sleeping then he'll get better.”
13 Jesus had been referring to the death of Lazarus, but the disciples thought he meant actual sleep.
14 So Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead.
15 For your sake I'm glad I wasn't there, because now you will be able to trust in me. Let's go and see him.”
16 Thomas, the Twin, said to his fellow-disciples, “Let's go too so we can die with him.”

22 But I'm certain that even now God will give you whatever you ask.”
23 Jesus told her, “Your brother will rise again.”
24 “I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day,” Martha answered.
25 Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life. Those who trust in me will live, even though they die.
26 All who live in me and trust in me will never die. Do you believe this?”
27 “Yes, Lord,” she replied, “I believe you are the Messiah, the Son of God, the one expected to come to this world.”
28 When she had said this, she went and told her sister Mary in private, “The Teacher's here, and asking to see you.”
29 As soon as she heard, Mary quickly got up and went to see him.
30 Jesus hadn't arrived in the village yet. He was still at the place where Martha had met him.
31 The Jews who had been comforting Mary in the home saw how she'd got up quickly and left. So they followed her, thinking she was going to the tomb to weep there.

12 Therefore his disciples said, Lord, if he sleepeth, he shall be safe.
13 But Jesus had said of his death; but they guessed, that he said of the sleeping of sleep.
14 Then therefore Jesus said to them openly, Lazarus is dead;

18 And Bethany was beside Jerusalem, as it were fifteen furlongs.
19 And many of the Jews came to Mary and Martha, to comfort them of their brother.
20 Therefore as Martha heard, that Jesus came, she ran to him; but Mary sat at home.
21 Therefore Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if thou haddest been here, my brother had not be dead.
22 But now I know, that whatever things thou shalt ask of God, God shall give to thee.
23 Jesus saith to her, Thy brother shall rise again.
24 Martha saith to him, I know, that he shall rise again in the again-rising in the last day.
25 Jesus saith to her, I am again-rising and life; he that believeth in me, yea, though he be dead, he shall live;
26 and each that liveth or all that liveth, and believeth in me, shall not die without end. Believest thou this thing?
27 She saith to him, Yea, Lord, I have believed, that thou art Christ, the Son of the living God, that hast come into this world.
28 And when she had said this thing, she went, and called Mary, her sister, in silence, and said, The Master is come, and calleth thee.
29 She, as she heard, arose anon, and came to him.

31 Therefore the Jews that were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose swiftly, and went out, they pursued her, and said, For she goeth to the grave, to weep there.

John 11:12-31 in Wycliffe's Bible with Modern Spelling (Enhanced)

12 Therefore his disciples said, Lord, if he sleepeth, he shall be safe. (And so his disciples said, Lord, if he sleepeth, then he shall be secure or he shall be whole again.)
13 But Jesus had said of his death; but they guessed, that he said of the sleeping of sleep.
14 Then therefore Jesus said to them openly, Lazarus is dead;
15 and I have joy for you, that ye believe, for I was not there; but go we to him. (and I am happy for you, that your faith will increase, because I was not there; let us go to him.)
16 Therefore Thomas, that is said Didymus, said to (his) even-disciples, Go we also, that we die with him. (And Thomas, who is called the Twin, said to his fellow disciples, Let us also go, so that we can die with him.)
17 And so Jesus came, and found him having then four days in the grave.
18 And Bethany was beside Jerusalem, as it were fifteen furlongs.
19 And many of the Jews came to Mary and Martha, to comfort them of their brother (or to comfort them over their brother’s death).
20 Therefore as Martha heard, that Jesus came, she ran to him; but Mary sat at home.
21 Therefore Martha said to Jesus, Lord, if thou haddest been here, my brother had not be dead, (or Lord, if thou haddest been here, my brother would not have died).
22 But now I know, that whatever things thou shalt ask of God, God shall give to thee.
23 Jesus saith to her, Thy brother shall rise again.
24 Martha saith to him, I know, that he shall rise again in the again-rising in the last day. (Martha said to him, I know, that he shall rise again at the resurrection on the Last Day.)
25 Jesus saith to her, I am again-rising and life (or I am the resurrection and the life); he that believeth in me, yea, though he be dead, he shall live;
26 and each that liveth or and all that liveth, and believeth in me, shall not die into without end. Believest thou this thing?
27 She saith to him, Yea, Lord, I have believed, that thou art Christ, the Son of the living God, that hast come into this world. (She said to him, Yes, Lord, I do believe, that thou art the Messiah, the Son of the living God, who hath come into this world.)
28 And when she had said this thing, she went, and called Mary, her sister, in silence, and said, The Master is come, and calleth thee. (And after she had said this, she went back home, and called aside her sister Mary, and said, The Teacher hath come, and calleth for thee.)
29 She, as she heard, arose anon (or got up at once), and came to him.
30 And Jesus came not yet into the castle (or And Jesus was not yet in the village), but he was yet in that place, where Martha had come to meet him.
31 Therefore the Jews that were with her in the house, and comforted her, when they saw Mary, that she rose swiftly, and went out, they (pur)sued her (or they followed her), and said, For she goeth to the grave, to weep there.

John 11:12-31 in Young's Literal Translation

12 therefore said his disciples, 'Sir, if he hath fallen asleep, he will be saved;'
13 but Jesus had spoken about his death, but they thought that about the repose of sleep he speaketh.
14 Then, therefore, Jesus said to them freely, 'Lazarus hath died;
15 and I rejoice, for your sake, (that ye may believe,) that I was not there; but we may go to him;'
16 therefore said Thomas, who is called Didymus, to the fellow-disciples, 'We may go — we also, that we may die with him,'
17 Jesus, therefore, having come, found him having been four days already in the tomb.
18 And Bethany was nigh to Jerusalem, about fifteen furlongs off,
19 and many of the Jews had come unto Martha and Mary, that they might comfort them concerning their brother;
20 Martha, therefore, when she heard that Jesus doth come, met him, and Mary kept sitting in the house.
21 Martha, therefore, said unto Jesus, 'Sir, if thou hadst been here, my brother had not died;
22 but even now, I have known that whatever thou mayest ask of God, God will give to thee;'
23 Jesus saith to her, 'Thy brother shall rise again.'
24 Martha saith to him, 'I have known that he will rise again, in the rising again in the last day;'
25 Jesus said to her, 'I am the rising again, and the life; he who is believing in me, even if he may die, shall live;
26 and every one who is living and believing in me shall not die — to the age;
27 believest thou this?' she saith to him, 'Yes, sir, I have believed that thou art the Christ, the Son of God, who is coming to the world.'
28 And these things having said, she went away, and called Mary her sister privately, saying, 'The Teacher is present, and doth call thee;'
29 she, when she heard, riseth up quickly, and doth come to him;
30 and Jesus had not yet come to the village, but was in the place where Martha met him;
31 the Jews, therefore, who were with her in the house, and were comforting her, having seen Mary that she rose up quickly and went forth, followed her, saying — 'She doth go away to the tomb, that she may weep there.'
