Ezekiel 24:15-18 in English

¹⁵ Also the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

¹⁶ Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke: yet thou shalt neither mourn nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.

¹⁷ Sigh, but not aloud, make no mourning for the dead; bind thy headtire upon thee, and put thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thy lips, and eat not the bread of men.

¹⁸ So I spake unto the people in the morning; and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

¹⁵ And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

¹⁶ Son of man, behold I take from thee the desire of thine eyes by violence: thou shalt not lament, neither shalt thou weep.

¹⁷ Thou shalt groan for blood, and have mourning upon thy loins; thy hair shall not be braided upon thee, and thy sandals shall be on thy feet; thou shalt in no wise be comforted by their lips, and thou shalt not eat the bread of men.

¹⁸ And I spoke to the people in the morning, as he commanded me in the evening, and I did in the morning as it was commanded me.

¹⁵ One day Yahweh gave me this message:

¹⁶ “You human, I am going to suddenly take from you your wife, whom you love very much. But when she dies, do not show that you are sad or lament or cry.

¹⁷ Groan quietly; do not cry openly for her. Keep your turban wrapped around your head, and instead of being barefoot, keep your sandals on your feet. Do not cover the lower part of your face to show that you are sad. And do not eat the kind of food that people who are mourning usually eat.”

¹⁸ So one morning I talked to the people as usual, and that evening my wife suddenly died. The next morning I did what Yahweh had told me to do.

¹⁵ And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

¹⁷ Let there be no sound of sorrow; make no weeping for your dead, put on your head-dress and your shoes on your feet, let not your lips be covered, and do not take the food of those in grief.

¹⁸ So in the morning I was teaching the people and in the evening death took my wife; and in the morning I did what I had been ordered to do.

¹⁷ Sigh in silence, make no mourning for the dead: let the tire of thy head be upon thee, and thy shoes on thy feet, and cover not thy face, nor eat the meat of mourners.

¹⁸ So I spoke to the people in the morning, and my wife died in the evening: and I did in the morning as he had commanded me.

¹⁵ A message from the Lord came to me, saying,

¹⁶ “Son of man, look, I'm about to take away the one you love the most. She will die. But you must not mourn or weep. Don't cry any tears.

¹⁷ Mourn in silence. Don't have any rituals for the dead. Dress normally—have your turban on and put your sandals on your feet. Don't veil your face and don't eat the bread used by mourners.”

¹⁸ I talked to the people in the morning, and my wife died in the evening. The next morning I did as I'd been told.

¹⁵ Also the worde of ye Lord came vnto me, saying,

¹⁶ Sonne of man beholde, I take away from thee the pleasure of thine eyes with a plague: yet shalt thou neither mourne nor weepe, neither shall thy teares runne downe.

¹⁷ Cease from sighing: make no mourning for the dead, and binde the tyre of thine head vpon thee, and put on thy shooes vpon thy feete, and couer not thy lips, and eate not the bread of men.

¹⁸ So I spake vnto the people in the morning, and at euen my wife dyed: and I did in the morning, as I was commanded.

¹⁵ Also the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:

¹⁶ 'Son of man, behold, I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes with a stroke; yet neither shalt thou make lamentation nor weep, neither shall thy tears run down.

¹⁷ Sigh in silence; make no mourning for the dead, bind thy headtire upon thee, and put thy shoes upon thy feet, and cover not thine upper lip, and eat not the bread of men.'

¹⁸ So I spoke unto the people in the morning, and at even my wife died; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

¹⁸ And when I had spoken unto the people in the morning, my wife died at evening: and I did in the morning as I had been commanded.

¹⁵ And the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

¹⁸ So I spake to the people in the morning, and my wife died in the evening; and I did in the morning as I was commanded.

¹⁵ Then the word of Yahweh came to me, saying,

¹⁶ “Son of man! Behold, I am taking the desire of your eyes from you with a plague, but you must not mourn nor weep, and your tears must not flow.

¹⁷ You must groan silently. Do not conduct a funeral for the dead. Tie your turban on you and place your sandals on your feet, but do not veil your facial hair or eat the bread of men who mourn for having lost their wives.”

¹⁸ So I spoke to the people in the morning, and my wife died in the evening. In the morning I did what I had been commanded to do.

¹⁶ Thou, son of man, lo! I take away from thee the desirable thing of thine eyes in vengeance, and thou shalt not wail, neither weep, neither thy tears shall flow down.

¹⁷ Wail thou while being still, thou shalt not make mourning of dead men; thy crown be bound about thine head, and thy shoes shall be in the feet, neither thou shalt cover the mouth with a cloth, neither thou shalt eat the meats of mourners.

¹⁸ Therefore I spake to the people in the morrowtide, and my wife was dead in the eventide; and I did in the morrowtide, as he had commanded to me.

¹⁵ And the word of the Lord was made to me, and he said,

¹⁶ Thou, son of man, lo! I take away from thee the desirable thing of thine eyes in vengeance, and thou shalt not wail, neither weep, neither thy tears shall flow down. (Thou, son of man, behold! with vengeance I take away from thee the desire of thine eyes, (and of thy heart), but thou shalt not wail, nor weep, nor shall thy tears flow down.)

¹⁷ Wail thou (while) being still, thou shalt not make mourning of dead men; thy crown be bound about thine head, and thy shoes shall be in the feet, neither thou shalt cover the mouth with a cloth, neither thou shalt eat the meats of mourners. (Wail thou, but silently, thou shalt not make mourning for the dead; let thy crown, or thy covering, be put upon thy head, and thy shoes shall be upon thy feet, but thou shalt not cover thy mouth with a cloth, nor shalt thou eat the food of mourners.)

¹⁸ Therefore I spake to the people in the morrowtide, and my wife was dead in the eventide; and I did in the morrowtide, as he had commanded to me.

¹⁵ And there is a word of Jehovah unto me, saying,

¹⁶ 'Son of man, lo, I am taking from thee the desire of thine eyes by a stroke, and thou dost not mourn, nor weep, nor let thy tear come.

¹⁷ Cease to groan, for the dead thou dost make no mourning, thy bonnet bind on thee, and thy shoes thou dost put on thy feet, and thou dost not cover over the upper lip, and bread of men thou dost not eat.'

¹⁸ And I speak unto the people in the morning, and my wife dieth in the evening, and I do in the morning as I have been commanded.
