Acts 8:1-5 in English

¹ And Saul was consenting unto his death. And there arose on that day a great persecution against the church which was in Jerusalem; and they were all scattered abroad throughout the regions of Judæa and Samaria, except the apostles.

² And devout men buried Stephen, and made great lamentation over him.

³ But Saul laid waste the church, entering into every house, and dragging men and women committed them to prison.

⁴ They therefore that were scattered abroad went about preaching the word.

⁵ And Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and proclaimed unto them the Christ.

¹ Then some men who revered God buried Stephen's body in a tomb, and they mourned greatly and loudly for him. On that same day people started severely persecuting the believers who were living in Jerusalem. So most of the believers fled to other places throughout Judea and Samaria provinces. The apostles were the only believers who remained in Jerusalem.

³ While the people were killing Stephen, Saul was there approving of their killing Stephen. So Saul also began trying to destroy the group of believers. He entered houses one by one, he dragged away men and women who believed in Jesus, and then he arranged for them to be put in prison.

⁴ The believers who had left Jerusalem went to different places, where they continued preaching the message about Jesus.

⁵ One of those believers whose name was Philip went down from Jerusalem to a city in Samaria province. There he was telling the people that Jesus is MTY the Messiah.

² And God-fearing men put Stephen's body in its last resting-place, making great weeping over him.

³ But Saul was burning with hate against the church, going into every house and taking men and women and putting them in prison.

⁴ But those who had gone in flight went everywhere preaching the word.

⁵ And Philip went down to Samaria and was teaching them about Christ.

¹ And Saul was consenting to his being killed. And on that day there arose a great persecution against the assembly which was in Jerusalem, and all were scattered into the countries of Judaea and Samaria except the apostles.

² And pious men buried Stephen and made great lamentation over him.

³ But Saul ravaged the assembly, entering into the houses one after another, and dragging off both men and women delivered them up to prison.

⁴ Those then that had been scattered went through the countries announcing the glad tidings of the word.

⁵ And Philip, going down to a city of Samaria, preached the Christ to them;

¹ And at that time there was raised a great persecution against the church which was at Jerusalem; and they were all dispersed through the countries of Judea, and Samaria, except the apostles.

² And devout men took order for Stephen’s funeral, and made great mourning over him.

³ But Saul made havock of the church, entering in from house to house, and dragging away men and women, committed them to prison.

⁴ They therefore that were dispersed, went about preaching the word of God.

⁵ And Philip going down to the city of Samaria, preached Christ unto them.

¹ Now Saul was agreeing with them in his murder. And in that day there arose a great persecution against the church which was in Jerusalem; and they all were scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

² And godly men buried Stephen, and they mourned deeply for him.

³ But Saul was doing injury to the church, going in from house to house, and dragging away both men and women, and putting them in prison.

⁴ Therefore those who were scattered went about preaching the word.

⁵ And Philip, going down to a city of Samaria, was preaching to them the Christ.

¹ At that time a major persecution arose against the church that was in Jerusalem, so all, except the Apostles, were scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria.

² (Devout men had buried Stephen and made a great lamentation over him.)

³ As for Saul, he was trying to destroy the Church; invading house after house and dragging away both men and women, he was putting them in prison.

⁴ So on their part those who were scattered abroad went about preaching the Word.

⁵ Now Philip, having gone down to a city of Samaria, was proclaiming the Christ to them;

¹ Saul approved of his killing. On that very day terrible persecution broke out against the church in Jerusalem, and everyone except for the apostles were scattered throughout Judea and Samaria.

² (Some faithful followers of God buried Stephen, with great mourning.)

³ But Saul set about destroying the church, going from house to house, dragging both men and women off to prison.

⁴ Those who had been scattered spread the word wherever they went.

⁵ Philip went to the town of Samaria, and told them about the Messiah.

¹ And Saul consented to his death, and at that time, there was a great persecution against the Church which was at Hierusalem, and they were all scattered abroad thorowe the regions of Iudea and of Samaria, except the Apostles.

² Then certaine men fearing God, caried Steuen amongs them, to be buried, and made great lamentation for him.

³ But Saul made hauocke of the Church, and entred into euery house, and drewe out both men and women, and put them into prison.

⁴ Therefore they that were scattered abroad, went to and from preaching the worde.

⁵ Then came Philip into the citie of Samaria, and preached Christ vnto them.

⁵ Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and there began to preach the Christ.

¹ Saul approved of his being put to death. On that very day a great persecution broke out against the church which was in Jerusalem; and its members, with the exception of the apostles, were all scattered over the districts of Judea and Samaria.

⁵ Philip went down to the city of Samaria, and there began to preach the Christ.

¹ And that man called Saul agreed with that Jewish council mob. He reckoned it was all right for them to kill Stephen. Then some good men got Stephen’s body and buried it, and they cried a lot for him. But Saul and those other men started making a lot of trouble for the Christians in Jerusalem. They went into the houses of Christians and dragged out the men and women, and locked them up in jail. Saul and his men were trying to finish up the Christian people, that are called the church, so a lot of the Christians ran away from Jerusalem to Judea country and to Samaria country. The only ones that stayed in Jerusalem were the 12 close followers of Jesus.

⁴ The Christians that ran away from Jerusalem went to a lot of different places, and they told people the good news about Jesus in all those places.

⁵ One of them was Philip. He went to the town called Samaria and told everyone, “Jesus is the special man that God promised to send.”

¹ Saul had pleasure in his deeth. And at that tyme there was a great persecucion agaynst the congregacion which was at Ierusalem and they were all scattered abroade thorowout the regions of Iury and Samaria except the Apostles.

² Then devout men dressed Steven and made great lamentacion over him.

³ But Saul made havocke of the congregacion entrynge into every housse and drewe out bothe man and woman and thrust the into preson.

⁴ They that were scattered abroade went every where preachyng the worde.

⁵ Then came Philip into a cite of Samaria and preached Christ vnto them.

¹ Saul was in agreement with his death. So there began on that day a great persecution against the church that was in Jerusalem; and the believers were all scattered throughout the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

³ But Saul greatly harmed the church; he went into house after house and dragged out men and women, and put them into prison.

⁴ Yet the believers who had been scattered went about proclaiming the word.

⁵ Philip went down to the city of Samaria and proclaimed to them the Christ.

⁵ And Philip came down into a city of Samaria, and preached to them Christ.

¹ But Saul was consenting to his death. And great persecution was made that day in the church, that was in Jerusalem. And all men were scattered by the countries (or into the provinces) of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles.

² But good or dread-full men buried Stephen, and made great mourning on him. (And some good or devout men buried Stephen, and greatly mourned over him.)

³ But Saul greatly destroyed the church, and entered by houses, and drew out men and women, and betook them into prison or into keeping, (or and delivered them to prison).

⁴ And they that were scattered, passed forth, preaching the word of God.

⁵ And Philip came down into a city of Samaria, and preached to them Christ. (And Philip came down to a city in Samaria, and preached to them about the Messiah.)

¹ And Saul was assenting to his death, and there came in that day a great persecution upon the assembly in Jerusalem, all also were scattered abroad in the regions of Judea and Samaria, except the apostles;

² and devout men carried away Stephen, and made great lamentation over him;

³ and Saul was making havoc of the assembly, into every house entering, and haling men and women, was giving them up to prison;

⁴ they then indeed, having been scattered, went abroad proclaiming good news — the word.

⁵ And Philip having gone down to a city of Samaria, was preaching to them the Christ,
