Acts 7:1-4 in English

¹ And the high priest said, Are these things so?

² And he said, Brethren and fathers, hearken: The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran,

³ and said unto him, Get thee out of thy land, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall show thee.

⁴ Then came he out of the land of the Chaldæans, and dwelt in Haran: and from thence, when his father was dead, God removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell:

¹ Then said the high priest, Are these things so?

² And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

³ And said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.

⁴ Then came he out of the land of the Chaldæans, and dwelt in Charran: and from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell.

¹ And the high priest said, Are these things so?

² And he said, Brethren and fathers, hearken. The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran,

³ and said unto him, Get thee out of thy land, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.

⁴ Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Haran: and from thence, when his father was dead, God removed him into this land, wherein ye now dwell:

¹ Then the high priest asked Stephen, “Are the things that these people are saying about you(sg) true?”

² Stephen replied, “Fellow Jews and respected leaders, please listen to me! The glorious God whom we(inc) worship appeared to our ancestor Abraham while he was still living in Mesopotamia region, before he moved to Haran town.

³ God said to him, ‘Leave this land where you (sg) and your relatives are living, and go into the land to which I will lead you.’

⁴ So Abraham left that land, which was also called Chaldea, and he arrived in Haran and lived there. After his father died, God told him to move to this land in which you and I are now living.”

¹ The high priest said, “Are these things so?”

² He said, “Brothers and fathers, listen. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran,

³ and said to him, ‘Get out of your land and away from your relatives, and come into a land which I will show you.’

⁴ Then he came out of the land of the Chaldaeans and lived in Haran. From there, when his father was dead, God moved him into this land where you are now living.

² And he said, My brothers and fathers, give hearing. The God of glory came to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he was living in Haran,

³ And said to him, Go out of your land, and away from your family, and come into the land to which I will be your guide.

⁴ Then he came out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and went into Haran; and from there, when his father was dead, he was guided by God into this land, where you are living now:

¹ And the high priest said, Are these things then so?

² And he said, Brethren and fathers, hearken. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

³ and said to him, Go out of thy land and out of thy kindred, and come into the land which I will shew thee.

⁴ Then going out of the land of the Chaldeans he dwelt in Charran, and thence, after his father died, he removed him into this land in which ye now dwell.

¹ Then the high priest said: Are these things so?

² Who said: Ye men, brethren, and fathers, hear. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charan.

³ And said to him: Go forth out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.

⁴ Then he went out of the land of the Chaldeans, and dwelt in Charan. And from thence, after his father was dead, he removed him into this land, wherein you now dwell.

¹ Then the high priest said, “Are these things so?”

² And he said, “Men, brothers and fathers, listen: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran,

³ and said to him, ‘Go out from your land and from your relatives, and come to a land which I will show you.’

⁴ Then he went forth from the land of the Chaldeans and settled down in Haran. And from there, after his father was dead, He moved him to this land in which you now dwell.

¹ Then the high priest said, “Can these things be so?”

² So he said: “Men, brothers and fathers, listen: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he resided in Haran,

³ and said to him, ‘Leave your country and your relatives, and come into a land that I will show you.’

⁴ Then he left the land of the Chaldeans and resided in Haran. From there, after his father died, God moved him to this land in which you now live;

¹ “Are these allegations true?” the high priest asked.

² “Brothers and fathers, listen to me!” Stephen replied. “God in his glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was living in Mesopotamia, before he moved to Haran.

³ God told him, ‘Leave your country and your relatives, and go to the country that I'm going to show you.’

⁴ So he left the country of the Chaldeans and lived in Haran. After his father's death, God sent him here to this country where you now live.

¹ Then sayd the chiefe Priest, Are these things so?

² And he sayd, Ye men, brethren and Fathers, hearken. That God of glory appeared vnto our father Abraham, while he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

³ And said vnto him, Come out of thy countrey, and from thy kindred, and come into the land, which I shall shewe thee.

⁴ Then came he out of the land of the Chaldeans, and dwelt in Charran. And after that his father was dead, God brought him from thence into this land, wherein ye now dwell,

¹ Then said the high priest, Are these things so?

² And he said, Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken; The God of glory appeared unto our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Charran,

³ and said unto him, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall shew thee.

² And he said, Brethren and fathers, hearken. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before he dwelt in Haran,

³ and said to him, “Go forth from thy country and thy kindred, and come into the land which I will show thee.”

⁴ Then came he out of the land of the Chaldaeans, and dwelt in Haran; and from thence, after his father was dead, he caused him to remove into this land wherein ye now dwell;

¹ Then the high priest asked, “Is this true?”

² Stephen replied, “Brothers and fathers, hear what I have to say. God, who manifests himself in the glory, appeared to our ancestor Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, and before he settled in Haran, and said to him —

³ ‘Leave your country and your people, and come into the country that I will show you.’

⁴ And so Abraham left the country of the Chaldaeans and settled in Haran; and from there, after his father's death, God caused him to migrate into this country, in which you are now living.

¹ Then the high priest asked, “Is this true?”

² Stephen replied, “Brothers and fathers, hear what I have to say. God, who manifests himself in the glory, appeared to our ancestor Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, and before he settled in Haran, and said to him —

³ ‘Leave your country and your people, and come into the country that I will show you.’

⁴ And so Abraham left the country of the Chaldaeans and settled in Haran; and from there, after his father's death, God caused him to migrate into this country, in which you are now living.

¹ The big boss of the Jewish ceremonies said to Stephen, “These men are saying bad things about you. Are they telling the true story about you?”

² Then Stephen said, “Listen to me, my countrymen and my leaders. Do you remember the story about our grand-fathers of a long time ago? Our great God came to our grand-father Abraham while he was still living in Mesopotamia country. God said to him, ‘Leave your country and your family. Go to the country that I will show you.’ Abraham listened to God and left that country of the Chaldean mob, and he went to live in Haran country. He lived there until his father died. Then God brought him here to this country that you live in now.

¹ Then sayde the chefe prest: is it even so?

² And he sayde: ye men brethren and fathers harken to. The God of glory appered vnto oure father Abraham whyll he was yet in Mesopotamia before he dwelt in Charran

³ and sayd vnto him: come out of thy contre and from thy kynred and come into the londe which I shall shewe the.

⁴ Then came he out of the londe of Chaldey and dwelt in Charran. And after that assone as his father was deed he brought him into this lande in which ye now dwell

¹ The high priest said, “Are these things true?”

² Stephen said, “Brothers and fathers, listen to me: The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran;

³ he said to him, 'Leave your land and your relatives, and go into the land that I will show you.'

⁴ Then he left the land of the Chaldeans and lived in Haran; from there, after his father died, God brought him into this land, where you live now.

³ And said to him, Depart from thy country, and from thy kindred, and come into the land which I shall show thee.

⁴ Then he came from the land of the Chaldeans, and dwelt in Charran. And from thence, when his father was dead, he removed him into this land in which ye now dwell.

¹ The high priest said, “Are these things so?”

² He said, “Brothers and fathers, listen. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran,

³ and said to him, ‘Get out of your land and away from your relatives, and come into a land which I will show you.’

⁴ Then he came out of the land of the Kasdim and lived in Haran. From there, when his father was dead, God moved him into this land where you are now living.

¹ The high priest said, “Are these things so?”

² He said, “Brothers and fathers, listen. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham when he was in Mesopotamia, before he lived in Haran,

³ and said to him, ‘Get out of your land and away from your relatives, and come into a land which I will show you.’

⁴ Then he came out of the land of the Kasdim and lived in Haran. From there, when his father was dead, God moved him into this land where you are now living.

¹ And the prince of priests said to Stephen, Whether these things have them so?

² Which said, Brethren and fathers, hear ye. The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before that he dwelt in Charran,

³ and said to him, Go out of thy land, and of thy kindred, and come into the land, which I shall show to thee.

⁴ Then he went out of the land of Chaldeans, and dwelt in Charran. And from thence after that his father was dead, he translated him into this land, in which ye dwell now.

¹ And the prince of priests said to Stephen, Whether these things have them so? (And the High Priest said to Stephen, Be these things true?)

² Which said, Brethren and fathers, hear ye, (or And he said, Brothers and fathers, listen). The God of glory appeared to our father Abraham, when he was in Mesopotamia, before that he dwelt in Charran,

³ and said to him, Go out of thy land, and of thy kindred, (or Go out of thy land, and away from thy kinfolk), and come into the land, which I shall show to thee.

⁴ Then he went out of the land of (the) Chaldeans, and dwelt in Charran. And from thence after that his father was dead, he translated him into this land (or he led him to this land), in which ye dwell now.

¹ And the chief priest said, 'Are then these things so?'

² and he said, 'Men, brethren, and fathers, hearken: The God of the glory did appear to our father Abraham, being in Mesopotamia, before his dwelling in Haran,

³ and He said to him, Go forth out of thy land, and out of thy kindred, and come to a land that I shall shew thee.

⁴ 'Then having come forth out of the land of the Chaldeans, he dwelt in Haran, and from thence, after the death of his father, He did remove him to this land wherein ye now dwell,
