Acts 2:4-11 in English

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

⁵ Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven.

⁶ And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speaking in his own language.

⁷ And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying, Behold, are not all these that speak Galilæans?

⁸ And how hear we, every man in our own language wherein we were born?

⁹ Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, in Judæa and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia,

¹⁰ in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

¹¹ Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our tongues the mighty works of God.

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

⁵ And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

⁶ Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.

⁷ And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilæans?

⁸ And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?

⁹ Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judæa, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,

¹⁰ Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

¹¹ Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

⁸ And how hear we, every man in our own language, wherein we were born?

⁹ Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, in Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia,

¹⁰ in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

¹¹ Cretans and Arabians, we do hear them speaking in our tongues the mighty works of God.

⁴ Then all of the believers were ◄completely controlled/empowered► by the Holy Spirit {the Holy Spirit ◄completely controlled/empowered► all of the believers}, and he enabled them to begin speaking other languages MTY that they had not learned.

⁵ At that time many Jews were staying in Jerusalem to celebrate the Pentecost festival. They were people who always tried to obey the Jewish laws. They had come from many different HYP countries.

⁶ When they heard that loud noise like a wind, a crowd came together to the place where the believers were. The crowd ◄was amazed/did not know what to think►, because each of them was hearing one of the believers speaking in that person's own language.

⁷ They were completely amazed, and they said to each other, “All these men who are speaking have RHQ always resided in Galilee district, so they would not know our languages.

⁸ ◄ We(inc) do not understand how these men can speak our own native languages!/How can these men speak our own native languages?► RHQ But all of us hear them doing that

⁹ Some of us are from the regions of Parthia and Media and Elam, and others of us reside in the regions of Mesopotamia, Judea, Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia.

¹⁰ There are some from Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the regions in Libya that are near Cyrene city. There are others of us who are here visiting Jerusalem from Rome.

¹¹ They include native Jews as well as non-Jews who have accepted what we Jews believe. And others of us are from Crete Island and from the region of Arabia. So how is it that these people are speaking our languages MTY, telling us about ◄the great/the mighty things► that God has done?”

⁴ They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.

⁵ Now there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under the sky.

⁶ When this sound was heard, the multitude came together and were bewildered, because everyone heard them speaking in his own language.

⁷ They were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Behold, aren’t all these who speak Galileans?

⁸ How do we hear, everyone in our own native language?

¹¹ Cretans and Arabians—we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!”

¹⁰ Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the parts of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

¹¹ Cretans and Arabians—we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!”

⁴ And they were all full of the Holy Spirit, and were talking in different languages, as the Spirit gave them power.

⁵ Now there were living at Jerusalem, Jews, God-fearing men, from every nation under heaven.

⁶ And when this sound came to their ears, they all came together, and were greatly surprised because every man was hearing the words of the disciples in his special language.

⁷ And they were full of wonder and said, Are not all these men Galilaeans?

⁸ And how is it that every one of us is hearing their words in the language which was ours from our birth?

⁹ Men of Parthia, Media, and Elam, and those living in Mesopotamia, in Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia,

¹⁰ In Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and those who have come from Rome, Jews by birth and others who have become Jews,

¹¹ Men of Crete and Arabia, to all of us they are talking in our different languages, of the great works of God.

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues as the Spirit gave to them to speak forth.

⁵ Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, pious men, from every nation of those under heaven.

⁶ But the rumour of this having spread, the multitude came together and were confounded, because each one heard them speaking in his own dialect.

⁷ And all were amazed and wondered, saying, Behold, are not all these who are speaking Galilaeans?

⁸ and how do we hear them each in our own dialect in which we have been born,

⁹ Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and those who inhabit Mesopotamia, and Judaea, and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,

¹⁰ both Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya which adjoin Cyrene, and the Romans sojourning here, both Jews and proselytes,

¹¹ Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our own tongues the great things of God?

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and they began to speak with divers tongues, according as the Holy Ghost gave them to speak.

⁵ Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem, Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

⁶ And when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded in mind, because that every man heard them speak in his own tongue.

⁷ And they were all amazed, and wondered, saying: Behold, are not all these, that speak, Galileans?

⁸ And how have we heard, every man our own tongue wherein we were born?

⁹ Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and inhabitants of Mesopotamia, Judea, and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,

¹⁰ Phrygia, and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome,

¹¹ Jews also, and proselytes, Cretes, and Arabians: we have heard them speak in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in different languages, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

⁵ And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation of those under heaven.

⁶ And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because they were hearing each one speaking in his own language.

⁷ And they were all amazed and were marveling, saying to one another, “Behold, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?

⁸ And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born?

⁹ Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,

¹⁰ Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya toward Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

¹¹ Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the mighty deeds of God.”

⁴ And they were all filled with Holy Spirit and began to speak different languages, as the Spirit was granting to them to speak out.

⁵ Now there were devout men, Jews, from every nation under heaven, dwelling in Jerusalem.

⁶ So when that roar occurred, the crowd came together, and was bewildered, because each one was hearing them speaking to him in his own dialect.

⁷ So they were amazed and marveled, saying to one another: “Hey, aren't all these who are speaking Galileans?

⁸ So how can each of us be hearing our own dialect in which we were born?

⁹ Parthians and Medes and Elamites; those dwelling in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia,

¹⁰ in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene; and visitors from Rome—both Jews and proselytes—

¹¹ Cretans and Arabians; we hear them declaring the great works of God in our own languages.”

⁴ All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in different languages as the Spirit gave them the ability to do so.

⁵ At that time there were devout Jews from every nation on earth living in Jerusalem.

⁶ When they heard this noise, a large crowd of them gathered. They were puzzled because everyone heard their own language being spoken.

⁷ They were totally amazed, saying, “Look, these people who are speaking—aren't they all Galileans?

⁸ So how is it that we can all hear them speaking in our own mother tongue?

⁹ Parthians, Medes and Elamites; people from Mesopotamia, Judaea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,

¹⁰ Phrygia and Pamphylia; from Egypt and the area of Libya around Cyrene; visitors from Rome, both Jews and converts,

¹¹ Cretans and Arabians—we hear them speaking in our own languages about all the great things God has done.”

⁴ And they were all filled with the holy Ghost, and began to speake with other tongues, as the Spirit gaue them vtterance.

⁵ And there were dwelling at Hierusalem Iewes, men that feared God, of euery nation vnder heauen.

⁶ Nowe when this was noised, the multitude came together and were astonied, because that euery man heard them speake his owne language.

⁷ And they wondered al, and marueiled, saying among themselues, Beholde, are not all these which speake, of Galile?

⁸ How then heare we euery man our owne language, wherein we were borne?

⁹ Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the inhabitants of Mesopotamia, and of Iudea, and of Cappadocia, of Pontus, and Asia,

¹⁰ And of Phrygia, and Pamphylia, of Egypt, and of the partes of Libya, which is beside Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, and Iewes, and Proselytes,

¹¹ Creetes, and Arabians: wee hearde them speake in our owne tongues the wonderful works of God.

⁴ And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

⁵ And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.

⁴ and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak in different languages as the Spirit prompted their utterances.

⁵ Now there were then staying in Jerusalem religious Jews from every country in the world;

⁶ and, when this sound was heard, numbers of people collected, in the greatest excitement, because each of them heard the disciples speaking in his own language.

⁷ They were utterly amazed, and kept asking in astonishment, “What! Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans?

⁸ Then how is it that we each of us hear them in our own language?

⁹ Some of us are Parthians, some Medes, some Elamites; and some of us live in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Roman Asia,

¹⁰ in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the districts of Libya adjoining Cyrene; some of us are visitors from Rome,

¹¹ either Jews by birth or converts, and some are Cretans and Arabians — yet we all alike hear them speaking in our own languages of the great things that God has done.”

⁷ They were utterly amazed, and kept asking in astonishment, “What! Are not all these people who are speaking Galileans?

⁸ Then how is it that we each of us hear them in our own language?

⁹ Some of us are Parthians, some Medes, some Elamites; and some of us live in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Roman Asia,

¹⁰ in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the districts of Libya adjoining Cyrene; some of us are visitors from Rome,

¹¹ either Jews by birth or converts, and some are Cretans and Arabians — yet we all alike hear them speaking in our own languages of the great things that God has done.”

⁴ The Holy Spirit went into all of them and they all began to talk in different languages. The Holy Spirit gave them power to talk these languages.

⁵ There were some Jews that were staying in Jerusalem at that time. They really respected God. They came from a lot of different countries.

⁶ They heard the noise and they crowded around that house. They heard Jesus’s followers talking in the languages of all their different countries, and they were really surprised.

⁷ They said, “These men are from Galilee,

⁸ so how come we can hear them talking in our own languages?

⁹ Some of us were born Jews and some of us became Jews later. We are from a lot of different countries, and we can hear them talking the languages of these countries. Some of us are from Parthia, and some from Media, and some from Elam, and some from Mesopotamia, and some from Judea, and some from Cappadocia, and some from Pontus, and some from Asia, and some from Phrygia, and some from Pamphylia, and some from Egypt, and some from places in Libya near Cyrene, and some of us are from Crete, and some of us are from Arabia, and some of us are visiting from Rome. But all of us can hear these people talking in our own languages. They are talking about the wonderful things that God does.”

⁴ and they were all filled with the holy goost and beganne to speake with other tonges even as the sprete gave them vtteraunce.

⁵ And ther were dwellinge at Ierusalem Iewes devoute men which were of all nacions vnder heaven.

⁶ When this was noysed aboute the multitude came to gether and were astonyed because that every man hearde the speake his awne tounge.

⁷ They wondred all and marveyled sayinge amonge them selves: Beholde are not all these which speake of Galile?

⁸ And how heare we every man his awne touge wherein we were boren?

⁹ Parthians Medes and Elamytes and the inhabiters of Mesopotamia of Iury and of Capadocia of Ponthus and Asia

¹⁰ Phrigia Pamphilia and of Egypte and of the parties of Libia which is besyde Syrene and straungers of Rome Iewes and convertes

¹¹ Grekes and Arabians: we have herde them speake with oure awne tonges the greate workes of God.

⁴ They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them to speak.

⁵ Now there were Jews who were living in Jerusalem, godly men, from every nation under heaven.

⁶ When this sound was heard, the multitude came together and was confused because everyone heard them speaking in his own language.

⁷ They were amazed and marveled; they said, “Really, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?

⁸ Why is it that we are hearing them, each in our own language in which we were born?

⁹ Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and those who live in Mesopotamia, in Judea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia,

¹⁰ Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya toward Cyrene, and visitors from Rome,

¹¹ Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabians, we hear them telling in our languages about the mighty works of God.”

⁴ They were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other languages, as the Spirit gave them the ability to speak.

⁴ And all were filled with the Holy Ghost, and they began to speak in diverse languages or with diverse tongues, as the Holy Ghost gave to them to speak.

⁵ And there were in Jerusalem dwelling Jews, religious men, of each nation that is under heaven.

⁶ And when this voice was made, the multitude came together, and were astonied, or was confounded, in thought, for each man heard them speaking in his own language +or in his own tongue.

⁷ And all were astonied, and wondered, and said together, Whether not all these that speak be men of Galilee or be Galileans,

⁸ and how heard we or how have we heard each man our language in which we be born?

⁹ Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and they that dwell at or in Mesopotamia, Judea, and Cappadocia, Pontus, and Asia,

¹⁰ Phrygia, and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya, that is about Cyrene, and comelings, Romans, and Jews, and proselytes,

¹¹ men of Crete, and of Arabia, we have heard them speaking in our languages or our tongues the great things of God.

⁴ And all were filled with the Holy Ghost, and they began to speak in diverse languages or with diverse tongues, as the Holy Ghost gave to them to speak. (And all were filled with the Holy Spirit, and they began to speak in different languages, which the Holy Spirit made them able to speak.)

⁵ And there were in Jerusalem dwelling Jews (or And there were Jews living in Jerusalem), religious men, of each nation that is under heaven.

⁶ And when this voice was made, the multitude came together, and were astonied, (or were astonished), or was confounded, in thought, (or And when this sound was made, the multitude came together, and were bewildered in their understanding), for each man heard them speaking in his own language +or in his own tongue.

⁷ And all were astonied (or astonished), and wondered, and said together, Whether not all these that speak be men of Galilee or Whether not all these that speak be Galileans,

⁸ and how heard we or have we heard each man our (own) language (or and how have each of us heard our own language) in which we be born?

⁹ Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and they that dwell at or in Mesopotamia, Judea, and Cappadocia, Pontus, and Asia,

¹⁰ Phrygia, and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya, that is about Cyrene, and comelings (or and newcomers), Romans, and Jews, and proselytes,

¹¹ men of Crete, and of Arabia, we have heard them speaking in our (own) languages or in our (own) tongues the great things of God.

⁴ and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, according as the Spirit was giving them to declare.

⁵ And there were dwelling in Jerusalem Jews, devout men from every nation of those under the heaven,

⁶ and the rumour of this having come, the multitude came together, and was confounded, because they were each one hearing them speaking in his proper dialect,

⁷ and they were all amazed, and did wonder, saying one unto another, 'Lo, are not all these who are speaking Galileans?

⁸ and how do we hear, each in our proper dialect, in which we were born?

⁹ Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and those dwelling in Mesopotamia, in Judea also, and Cappadocia, Pontus, and Asia,

¹⁰ Phrygia also, and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya, that are along Cyrene, and the strangers of Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

¹¹ Cretes and Arabians, we did hear them speaking in our tongues the great things of God.'
