Acts 2:10-38 in English

¹⁰ in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

¹¹ Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our tongues the mighty works of God.

¹² And they were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

¹³ But others mocking said, They are filled with new wine.

¹⁴ But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spake forth unto them, saying, Ye men of Judæa, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and give ear unto my words.

¹⁵ For these are not drunken, as ye suppose; seeing it is but the third hour of the day;

¹⁶ but this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel:

¹⁷ And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of my Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams:

¹⁸ Yea and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy.

¹⁹ And I will show wonders in the heaven above, And signs on the earth beneath; Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke:

²⁰ The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the day of the Lord come, That great and notable day:

²¹ And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

²² Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves know;

²³ him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye by the hand of lawless men did crucify and slay:

²⁴ whom God raised up, having loosed the pangs of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

²⁵ For David saith concerning him, I beheld the Lord always before my face; For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:

²⁶ Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; Moreover my flesh also shall dwell in hope:

²⁷ Because thou wilt not leave my soul unto Hades, Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption.

²⁸ Thou madest known unto me the ways of life; Thou shalt make me full of gladness with thy countenance.

²⁹ Brethren, I may say unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us unto this day.

³⁰ Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins he would set one upon his throne;

³¹ he foreseeing this spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left unto Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.

³² This Jesus did God raise up, whereof we all are witnesses.

³³ Being therefore by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath poured forth this, which ye see and hear.

³⁴ For David ascended not into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

³⁵ Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.

³⁶ Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified.

³⁷ Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?

³⁸ And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁰ Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,

¹¹ Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.

¹² And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

¹³ Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.

¹⁴ But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judæa, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

¹⁵ For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.

¹⁶ But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;

¹⁷ And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:

¹⁸ And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

¹⁹ And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

²⁰ The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:

²¹ And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

²² Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

²³ Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:

²⁴ Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

²⁵ For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:

²⁶ Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:

²⁷ Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.

²⁸ Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

²⁹ Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

³⁰ Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

³¹ He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

³² This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

³³ Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

³⁴ For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

³⁵ Until I make thy foes thy footstool.

³⁶ Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

²⁴ whom God raised up, having loosed the pangs of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.

²⁵ For David saith concerning him, I beheld the Lord always before my face; For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:

²⁶ Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; Moreover my flesh also shall dwell in hope:

²⁷ Because thou wilt not leave my soul in Hades, Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption.

³³ Being therefore by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath poured forth this, which ye see and hear.

³⁴ For David ascended not into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,

³⁵ Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet.

³⁶ Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified.

³⁷ Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do?

³⁸ And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

¹⁰ There are some from Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the regions in Libya that are near Cyrene city. There are others of us who are here visiting Jerusalem from Rome.

¹¹ They include native Jews as well as non-Jews who have accepted what we Jews believe. And others of us are from Crete Island and from the region of Arabia. So how is it that these people are speaking our languages MTY, telling us about ◄the great/the mighty things► that God has done?”

¹² All those people were amazed, and did not know what to think about what was happening. So they asked one another, “What does this mean?”

¹³ But some of them ◄made fun of/laughed at► those who believed in Jesus. They said, “ These people are talking like this because they are drunk!”

¹⁴ So Peter stood up with the other eleven apostles and spoke loudly to the crowd of people, saying, “ My fellow Jews and you others who are staying in Jerusalem, listen to me, all of you, and I will explain to you what is happening!

¹⁵ Some of you think that we(exc) are drunk , but we are not drunk. It is only nine o'clock in the morning, and people here never get drunk this early in the day!

¹⁶ Instead, what has happened to us is the miraculous thing that the prophet Joel wrote about long ago. Joel wrote: God says,

¹⁷ ‘During the last/final days before I judge all people, I will give my Spirit abundantly/generously to people SYN everywhere. As a result, your sons and daughters will tell people messages from me, the young men among you will see visions from me, and the old men among you will have dreams that I will give them.

¹⁸ During those days I will abundantly/generously give my Spirit even to men and women believers who are my slaves/servants, so they can tell people messages from me.

¹⁹ I will cause amazing things to happen in the sky, and I will do miracles on the earth that will show that I am powerful. Here on the earth CHI I will cause wars with blood, fire and thick/dark smoke everywhere.

²⁰ In the sky the sun will appear dark to people and the moon will appear red to them. Those things will happen before the important and splendid/amazing day MTY when I, the Lord God, will come to judge everyone.

²¹ Before that time, all those who ask me MTY to save them from the guilt of their sins will be saved { I, the Lord, will save all those who ask me MTY to save them from the guilt of their sins.}’”

²² Peter continued , “ My fellow Israelites, listen to me! When Jesus from Nazareth town lived among you, God proved to you that he had sent him by enabling him to do many amazing miracles. You yourselves know that this is true .

²³ Even though you knew that, you turned this man Jesus over to his enemies. However, God had already planned for that, and he knew all about it. Then you urged men SYN who do not obey God's law to kill Jesus. They did that by nailing him to a cross.

²⁴ He suffered terribly when he died, but God caused him to become alive again. God did not let him continue to be dead, because it was not possible for him PRS to remain dead.”

²⁵ “ Long ago King David wrote what the Messiah said, “I knew that you, Lord God, would always be near me. You are right beside MTY me, so I will not be afraid of those who want to harm me.

²⁶ Because of that I SYN joyfully praise you, O God. And I am completely confident that you(sg) will ◄ cause my body to become alive again/ raise me from the dead►.

²⁷ You will not allow my spirit to remain in the place where the dead are. You will not even let my body decay, because I am devoted to you and always obey you.

²⁸ You have told me that you will cause my body to become alive again. You will make me very happy because you will be with me forever.”

²⁹ Peter continued, “My fellow Jews, I can tell you confidently that our royal ancestor, King David, died, and that his body was buried {that people buried his body}. And the place where they buried his body is still here today.

³⁰ So we(inc) know that David was not speaking those words about himself. But because he was a prophet, he spoke about the Messiah. David knew that God had strongly promised him that he would cause one of his descendants to become king MTY like David was king. (OR, to be the Messiah who would rule God's people like David had ruled them.)

³¹ David knew beforehand what God would do, so he was able to say that God would cause the Messiah to live again after he died. He said that God would not let the Messiah remain in the place of the dead, nor let his body decay.”

³² “ After this man Jesus had died, God caused him to become alive again. All of us(exc), his followers, have seen and tell people that Jesus has become alive again.

³³ God has greatly honored Jesus by causing him to rule right beside him MTY in heaven. Jesus has received the Holy Spirit from God his Father, just like God promised. So Jesus has generously/abundantly given us the Holy Spirit, and he has shown that by what you are seeing and hearing.

³⁴ We(inc) know that David was not speaking about himself because David did not go up into heaven as Jesus did. Besides that, David himself said this about the Messiah: The Lord God said to my Lord the Messiah, ‘Reign here beside me,

³⁵ while I completely defeat MTY your enemies.’ ”

³⁶ Peter concluded, “So I want you and all other Israelites MTY to acknowledge that God has caused this Jesus to be both our Lord/Ruler and the Messiah. But God considers that you are the ones who nailed Jesus to a cross.”

³⁷ When the people heard what Peter said , they felt very guilty IDM. So they asked him and the other apostles, “Fellow-countrymen, what should we (exc) do so that God will forgive us ?”

³⁸ Peter answered them, “Each of you should turn away from your sinful behavior. Then we(exc) will baptize you, if you now believe in Jesus Christ. Then God will give you the Holy Spirit.

¹¹ Men of Crete and Arabia, to all of us they are talking in our different languages, of the great works of God.

¹² And they were all surprised and in doubt saying to one another, What is the reason of this?

¹³ But others, making sport of them, said, They are full of new wine.

¹⁴ But Peter, getting up, with the eleven, said in a loud voice, O men of Judaea, and all you who are living in Jerusalem, take note of this and give ear to my words.

¹⁵ For these men are not overcome with wine, as it seems to you, for it is only the third hour of the day;

¹⁶ But this is the thing which was said by the prophet Joel;

¹⁷ And it will come about, in the last days, says God, that I will send out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will be prophets, and your young men will see visions, and your old men will have dreams:

¹⁸ And on my men-servants and my women-servants I will send my Spirit, and they will be prophets.

¹⁹ And wonders will be seen in heaven, and signs on the earth, blood and fire and smoke:

²⁰ The sun will become dark and the moon will be turned to blood, before that great day of the Lord comes in glory:

²¹ And whoever makes his prayer to the Lord will have salvation.

²² Men of Israel, give ear to these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man who had the approval of God, as was made clear to you by the great works and signs and wonders which God did by him among you, as you yourselves have knowledge,

²³ Him, when he was given up, by the decision and knowledge of God, you put to death on the cross, by the hands of evil men:

²⁴ But God gave him back to life, having made him free from the pains of death because it was not possible for him to be overcome by it.

²⁵ For David said of him, I saw the Lord before my face at all times, for he is at my right hand, so that I may not be moved:

²⁶ And for this cause my heart was glad and my tongue full of joy, and my flesh will be resting in hope:

²⁷ For you will not let my soul be in hell and you will not give up your Holy One to destruction.

²⁸ You have made me see the ways of life; I will be full of joy when I see your face.

²⁹ My brothers, I may say to you openly that David came to his death, and was put in the earth, and his resting-place is with us today.

³⁰ But being a prophet, and having in mind the oath which God had given to him, that of the fruit of his body one would take his place as a king,

³¹ He, having knowledge of the future, was talking of the coming again of Christ from the dead, that he was not kept in hell and his body did not see destruction.

³² This Jesus God has given back to life, of which we all are witnesses.

³³ And so, being lifted up to the right hand of God, and having the Father's word that the Holy Spirit would come, he has sent this thing, which now you see and have knowledge of.

³⁴ For David has not gone up into heaven, but says, himself, The Lord said to my Lord, Be seated at my right hand,

³⁵ Till I put all those who are against you under your feet.

³⁶ For this reason, let all Israel be certain that this Jesus, whom you put to death on the cross, God has made Lord and Christ.

³⁷ Now when these words came to their ears their hearts were troubled, and they said to Peter and the other Apostles, Brothers, what are we to do?

³⁸ And Peter said, Let your hearts be changed, every one of you, and have baptism in the name of Jesus Christ, for the forgiveness of your sins; and you will have the Holy Spirit given to you.

¹⁰ both Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt, and the parts of Libya which adjoin Cyrene, and the Romans sojourning here, both Jews and proselytes,

¹¹ Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our own tongues the great things of God?

¹² And they were all amazed and in perplexity, saying one to another, What would this mean?

¹³ But others mocking said, They are full of new wine.

¹⁴ But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke forth to them, Men of Judaea, and all ye inhabitants of Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give heed to my words:

¹⁵ for these are not full of wine, as ye suppose, for it is the third hour of the day;

¹⁶ but this is that which was spoken through the prophet Joel,

¹⁷ And it shall be in the last days, saith God, that I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your elders shall dream with dreams;

¹⁸ yea, even upon my bondmen and upon my bondwomen in those days will I pour out of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.

¹⁹ And I will give wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:

²⁰ the sun shall be changed to darkness and the moon to blood, before the great and gloriously appearing day of the Lord come.

²¹ And it shall be that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

²² Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus the Nazaraean, a man borne witness to by God to you by works of power and wonders and signs, which God wrought by him in your midst, as yourselves know

²³ — him, given up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye, by the hand of lawless men, have crucified and slain.

²⁴ Whom God has raised up, having loosed the pains of death, inasmuch as it was not possible that he should be held by its power;

²⁵ for David says as to him, I foresaw the Lord continually before me, because he is at my right hand that I may not be moved.

²⁶ Therefore has my heart rejoiced and my tongue exulted; yea more, my flesh also shall dwell in hope,

²⁷ for thou wilt not leave my soul in hades, nor wilt thou give thy gracious one to see corruption.

²⁸ Thou hast made known to me the paths of life, thou wilt fill me with joy with thy countenance.

²⁹ Brethren, let it be allowed to speak with freedom to you concerning the patriarch David, that he has both died and been buried, and his monument is amongst us unto this day.

³⁰ Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn to him with an oath, of the fruit of his loins to set upon his throne;

³¹ he, seeing it before, spoke concerning the resurrection of the Christ, that neither has he been left in hades nor his flesh seen corruption.

³² This Jesus has God raised up, whereof all we are witnesses.

³³ Having therefore been exalted by the right hand of God, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which ye behold and hear.

³⁴ For David has not ascended into the heavens, but he says himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit at my right hand

³⁵ until I have put thine enemies to be the footstool of thy feet.

³⁶ Let the whole house of Israel therefore know assuredly that God has made him, this Jesus whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

³⁷ And having heard it they were pricked in heart, and said to Peter and the other apostles, What shall we do, brethren?

³⁸ And Peter said to them, Repent, and be baptised, each one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ, for remission of sins, and ye will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹³ But others mocking, said: These men are full of new wine.

¹⁵ For these are not drunk, as you suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day:

²¹ And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, shall be saved.

²² Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you, by miracles, and wonders, and signs, which God did by him, in the midst of you, as you also know:

²³ This same being delivered up, by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, you by the hands of wicked men have crucified and slain.

²⁴ Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the sorrows of hell, as it was impossible that he should be holden by it.

²⁵ For David saith concerning him: I foresaw the Lord before my face: because he is at my right hand, that I may not be moved.

²⁶ For this my heart hath been glad, and any tongue hath rejoiced: moreover my flesh also shall rest in hope.

²⁷ Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, nor suffer thy Holy One to see corruption.

²⁸ Thou hast made known to me the ways of life: thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

²⁹ Ye men, brethren, let me freely speak to you of the patriarch David; that he died, and was buried; and his sepulchre is with us to this present day.

³⁰ Whereas therefore he was a prophet, and knew that God hath sworn to him with an oath, that of the fruit of his loins one should sit upon his throne.

³¹ Foreseeing this, he spoke of the resurrection of Christ. For neither was he left in hell, neither did his flesh see corruption.

³² This Jesus hath God raised again, whereof all we are witnesses.

³³ Being exalted therefore by the right hand of God, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath poured forth this which you see and hear.

³⁴ For David ascended not into heaven; but he himself said: The Lord said to my Lord, sit thou on my right hand,

³⁵ Until I make thy enemies thy footstool.

³⁶ Therefore let all the house of Israel know most certainly, that God hath made both Lord and Christ, this same Jesus, whom you have crucified.

³⁷ Now when they had heard these things, they had compunction in their heart, and said to Peter, and to the rest of the apostles: What shall we do, men and brethren?

³⁸ But Peter said to them: Do penance, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ, for the remission of your sins: and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

¹⁰ Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya toward Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

¹¹ Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the mighty deeds of God.”

¹² So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”

¹³ Others were mocking and saying, “They are full of new wine.”

¹⁴ But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke out to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and give ear to my words.

¹⁵ For these are not drunk, as you suppose, for it is just the third hour of the day.

¹⁶ But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:

¹⁷ ‘ “And it shall be in the last days,” says God, “that I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy; and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;

¹⁸ and on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and they shall prophesy.

¹⁹ And I will give wonders in the heaven above, and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and vapor of smoke.

²⁰ The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the great and magnificent Day of the Lord.

²¹ And it shall be that everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” ’

²² “Men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a Man attested by God to you by miracles, wonders, and signs which God did through Him in your midst, just as you yourselves also know—

²³ Him, being delivered by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, you took, and by lawless hands, nailing Him to a cross, you killed Him;

²⁴ whom God raised, thus doing away with the labor pains of death, because it was not possible for Him to be held by it.

²⁵ For David says concerning Him, ‘I foresaw the Lord always before me, because He is at my right hand, that I may not be shaken.

²⁶ Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; moreover my flesh also will dwell in hope.

²⁷ Because You will not abandon my soul in Hades, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.

²⁸ You have made known to me the ways of life; You will fill me full of joy with Your presence.’

²⁹ “Men, brothers, let me speak with boldness to you about the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

³⁰ Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, He would raise up the Christ to seat Him on his throne,

³¹ foreseeing this, he spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, ‘that His soul was not left in Hades, nor did His flesh see corruption.’

³² This Jesus God has raised up, of which we all are witnesses.

³³ Therefore having being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.

³⁴ For David did not ascend into the heavens, but he says himself: ‘The Lord said to my Lord, “Sit at My right hand,

³⁵ till I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet.” ’

³⁶ “Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”

³⁷ Now having heard this, they were cut to the heart, and they said to Peter and the rest of the apostles, “Men and brothers, what shall we do?”

³⁸ Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁰ in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene; and visitors from Rome—both Jews and proselytes—

¹¹ Cretans and Arabians; we hear them declaring the great works of God in our own languages.”

¹² Yes they were all amazed and perplexed, saying one to another, “Whatever is going on?”

¹³ But different ones were jeering, saying, “They are full of sweet wine!”

¹⁴ So Peter, standing with the eleven, raised his voice and proclaimed to them: “Men—Jews and all who are dwelling in Jerusalem—let this be known to you; indeed, listen to my speech!

¹⁵ Because these are not drunk, as you suppose (since it is only the third hour of the day),

¹⁶ but this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel:

¹⁷ ‘It will be in the last days, says God: I will pour out from my Spirit upon all flesh; your sons and your daughters will prophesy; your young men will see visions; your old men will dream a dream.

¹⁸ In those days I will indeed pour out from my Spirit upon my male slaves and upon my female slaves, and they will prophesy.

¹⁹ I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below: blood and fire and smoke vapor.

²⁰ The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into ‘blood’ before the great and glorious day of the Lord will come.

²¹ And it will be: whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved!’

²² “Men of Israel, listen to these words: Jesus the Natsorean, a man from God attested to you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by Him in your midst, as you yourselves well know,

²³ Him—being delivered up by the established purpose and foreknowledge of God—you murdered, having taken Him with lawless hands and crucified Him;

²⁴ whom God raised up, ending the labor pains of death, because it was not possible that He should be held by it.

²⁵ For David says concerning Him: ‘I always saw the Lord before my face, because He is at my right side so that I not be shaken.

²⁶ Therefore my heart was glad and my tongue rejoiced. Furthermore, even my flesh will repose upon hope,

²⁷ because You will not abandon my soul in Hades, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see decay.

²⁸ You have made known to me roads of life; with Your presence You make me full of gladness.’

²⁹ “Men, brothers, be it permitted to speak to you plainly about the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

³⁰ So then, he being a prophet and knowing that God had sworn to him with an oath that of the fruit, according to flesh, of his loins He would raise up the Messiah to sit on his throne,

³¹ he foreseeing this spoke about the resurrection of the Messiah, that His soul was not abandoned in Hades, nor did His flesh see decay.

³² “This Jesus God raised, to which we all are witnesses.

³³ Therefore, having been exalted to God's right hand, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this that you now see and hear.

³⁴ Further, David did not ascend into the heavens, but he himself says: ‘The Lord said to my Lord: Sit at my right hand

³⁵ until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.’

³⁶ Therefore, let all the house of Israel know assuredly that God has made Him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom you crucified!”

³⁷ Now upon hearing this they were cut to the heart and said to Peter, and the rest of the Apostles, “Men, brothers, what shall we do?!”

³⁸ So Peter said to them: “Repent and be baptized, each one of you, upon the name of Jesus Christ, for forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁰ Phrygia and Pamphylia; from Egypt and the area of Libya around Cyrene; visitors from Rome, both Jews and converts,

¹¹ Cretans and Arabians—we hear them speaking in our own languages about all the great things God has done.”

¹² They were all amazed and confused. “What does this mean?” they asked each other.

¹³ But others jeered and said, “They've been drinking too much wine!”

¹⁴ Then Peter stood up with the eleven disciples and spoke in a loud voice: “Fellow Jews and everyone living here in Jerusalem: pay attention to me and I'll explain all this to you!

¹⁵ These men aren't drunk as you presume. It's only nine in the morning!

¹⁶ What's happening is what was predicted by the prophet Joel:

¹⁷ God says, ‘In the last days I will pour out my Spirit on everyone. Your sons and daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams.

¹⁸ I will pour out my Spirit on my servants, both male and female, and they will prophesy.

¹⁹ I will also give you miraculous signs in the heavens above and on the earth below—blood, fire, and swirling smoke!

²⁰ The sun will become dark, and the moon will become red like blood before the great and glorious day of the Lord.

²¹ But whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

²² People of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man confirmed by God to you by the powerful miracles and signs that God performed through him, right here among you—as you well know.

²³ God, knowing beforehand what would happen, followed his plan and resolved to hand him over to you. By means of the hands of wicked men, you killed him by nailing him to a cross.

²⁴ But God raised him back to life, freeing him from the burden of death, because death did not have the power to keep him a prisoner.

²⁵ David says of him, ‘I saw the Lord always in front of me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.

²⁶ That's why I'm so happy! That's why my words are full of joy! That's why my body lives in hope!

²⁷ For you will not abandon me in the grave, nor will you allow your Holy One to experience decay.

²⁸ You have revealed to me the ways of life. You will fill me with joy with your presence.’

²⁹ My brothers and sisters, let me tell you plainly that our ancestor David died and was buried, and his tomb is here with us to this day.

³⁰ But he was a prophet, and knew that God had promised on oath to place one of his descendants on his throne.

³¹ David saw what would happen and spoke about the resurrection of Christ—for Christ was not abandoned to the grave nor did he experience decay.

³² God has raised this Jesus from the dead, and we're all witnesses of that.

³³ Now he's been exalted to God's right hand, and has received from the Father the Holy Spirit whom he promised, and has poured out what you're seeing and hearing.

³⁴ For David didn't ascend into heaven, but he did say: the Lord told my Lord, ‘Sit down here at my right hand

³⁵ until I have made your enemies a stool to put your feet on.’

³⁶ Now let everyone in Israel be totally convinced of this: God has made this Jesus, who you killed on a cross, both Lord and Messiah!”

³⁷ When the people heard this they were conscience-stricken. They asked Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what should we do?”

³⁸ “Repent!” Peter told them. “All of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁰ And of Phrygia, and Pamphylia, of Egypt, and of the partes of Libya, which is beside Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, and Iewes, and Proselytes,

¹¹ Creetes, and Arabians: wee hearde them speake in our owne tongues the wonderful works of God.

¹² They were all then amased, and douted, saying one to another, What may this be?

¹³ And others mocked, and saide, They are full of newe wine.

¹⁴ But Peter standing with ye Eleuen, lift vp his voice, and said vnto them, Ye men of Iudea, and ye all that inhabite Hierusalem, be this knowen vnto you, and hearken vnto my woordes.

¹⁵ For these are not drunken, as yee suppose, since it is but the third houre of the day.

¹⁶ But this is that, which was spoken by the Prophet Ioel,

¹⁷ And it shalbe in the last daies, saith God, I wil powre out of my Spirite vpon al flesh, and your sonnes, and your daughters shall prophecie, and your yong men shall see visions, and your old men shall dreame dreames.

¹⁸ And on my seruauntes, and on mine handmaides I will powre out of my Spirite in those daies, and they shall prophecie.

¹⁹ And I wil shew wonders in heauen aboue, and tokens in the earth beneath, blood, and fire, and the vapour of smoke.

²⁰ The Sunne shalbe turned into darkenesse, and the moone into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come.

²¹ And it shalbe, that whosoeuer shall call on the Name of the Lord, shalbe saued.

²² Yee men of Israel, heare these woordes, JESUS of Nazareth, a man approued of God among you with great workes, and wonders, and signes, which God did by him in the middes of you, as yee your selues also knowe:

²³ Him, I say, being deliuered by the determinate counsell, and foreknowledge of God, after you had taken, with wicked handes you haue crucified and slaine.

²⁴ Whome God hath raised vp, and loosed the sorrowes of death, because it was vnpossible that he should be holden of it.

²⁵ For Dauid sayeth concerning him, I beheld the Lord alwaies before me: for hee is at my right hand, that I should not be shaken.

²⁶ Therefore did mine heart reioyce, and my tongue was glad, and moreouer also my flesh shall rest in hope,

²⁷ Because thou wilt not leaue my soule in graue, neither wilt suffer thine Holy one to see corruption.

²⁸ Thou hast shewed me the waies of life, and shalt make me full of ioy with thy countenance.

²⁹ Men and brethren, I may boldly speake vnto you of the Patriarke Dauid, that hee is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre remaineth with vs vnto this day.

³⁰ Therefore, seeing hee was a Prophet, and knewe that God had sworne with an othe to him, that of the fruite of his loynes hee woulde raise vp Christ concerning the flesh, to set him vpon his throne,

³¹ Hee knowing this before, spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soule shoulde not bee left in graue, neither his flesh shoulde see corruption.

³² This Iesus hath God raised vp, whereof we all are witnesses.

³³ Since then that he by the right hande of God hath bene exalted, and hath receiued of his Father the promise of the holy Ghost, hee hath shed foorth this which yee nowe see and heare.

²⁹ Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.

³⁰ Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

³¹ he seeing this before, spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.

³² This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.

³³ Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.

³⁷ Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?

³⁸ Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

¹⁰ Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and Romans who sojourn here, both Jews and Proselytes,

¹¹ Cretans and Arabians—how is it that we hear them speaking in our tongues the wonderful works of God?

¹² And they were all amazed and were in doubt, saying one to another, What can this mean?

¹³ Others making sport of it, said, They are full of new wine.

¹⁴ But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said to them, Men of Judea, and all that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known to you, and hearken to my words.

¹⁵ For these are not drunken, as ye suppose; for it is the third hour of the day;

¹⁶ but this is what was spoken through the prophet Joel,

¹⁷ “It shall be in the last days, saith God, that I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy, and your young men will see visions, and your old men will dream dreams;

¹⁸ and even on my servants, and on my handmaids, I will pour out of my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.

¹⁹ And I will show wonders in heaven above, and signs on the earth beneath, blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke;

²⁰ the sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the day of the Lord cometh, the great and notable day.

²¹ And it shall be that every one that calleth on the name of the Lord shall be saved.”

²² Men of Israel, hear these words! Jesus the Nazarene, a man approved of God to you by miracles, and wonders, and signs, which God wrought by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves know,—

²³ this man, being delivered up by the settled purpose and foreknowledge of God, ye, by the hand of godless men, crucified and slew.

²⁴ But God raised him up, having loosed the pains of death, because it was not possible that he should be held by it.

²⁵ For David saith concerning him, “I saw the Lord always before me; because he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved.

²⁶ Therefore my heart rejoiced, and my tongue exulted; moreover also, my flesh shall dwell in hope;

²⁷ because thou wilt not abandon my soul to the underworld, nor wilt thou suffer thy holy one to see corruption.

²⁸ Thou didst make known to me the ways of life; thou wilt make me full of joy with thy countenance.”

²⁹ Brethren, I may speak to you with freedom of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is among us to this day.

³¹ he foresaw and spoke of the resurrection of Christ, that neither was he abandoned to the underworld, nor did his flesh see corruption.

¹⁹ And I will show wonders in the heavens above, And signs on the earth below — Blood and fire and mist of smoke;

²⁰ The sun will become darkness, And the moon blood-red, Before the day of the Lord comes — that great and awful day.

²¹ Then will everyone who invokes the name of the Lord be saved.’

²² People of Israel, listen to what I am saying. Jesus of Nazareth, a man whose mission from God to you was proved by miracles, wonders, and signs, which God showed amongst you through him, as you know full well —

²³ He, I say, in accordance with God's definite plan and with his previous knowledge, was betrayed, and you, by the hands of lawless men, nailed him to a cross and put him to death.

²⁴ But God released him from the pangs of death and raised him to life, it being impossible for death to retain its hold on him.

²⁵ Indeed he was the one David was referring to when he said — ‘I have had the Lord ever before my eyes, For he stands at my right hand, so that I should not be disquieted.

²⁶ Therefore my heart was cheered, and my tongue told its delight; Yes, even my body, too, will rest in hope;

²⁷ For you will not abandon my soul to Hades, Nor surrender me, your holy one, to undergo corruption.

²⁸ You have shown me the path to life, You will fill me with gladness in your presence.’

²⁹ Friends, I can speak to you the more confidently about the patriarch David, because he is dead and buried, and his tomb is here amongst us to this very day.

³⁰ David, then, prophet as he was, knowing that God had solemnly sworn to him to set one of his descendants on his throne, looked into the future,

³¹ and referred to the resurrection of the Christ when he said that he had not been abandoned to Hades, nor had his body undergone corruption.

³² It was this Jesus, whom God raised to life; and of that we are ourselves all witnesses.

³³ And now that he has been exalted to the right hand of God, and has received from the Father the promised gift of the Holy Spirit, he has begun to pour out that gift, as you yourselves now see and hear.

¹² Those people were shocked and they didn’t understand. They asked each other, “What does this mean?”

¹³ But some people laughed and made fun of Jesus’s followers. They said, “That mob are drunk. They drank too much sweet wine.”

¹⁴ Then Peter got up to talk to those people. The 11 other close followers of Jesus got up too. Peter said, in a loud voice, “All you mob that are Jews that live in Jerusalem, listen to me properly now and I’ll tell you the true story.

¹⁵ You reckon we are drunk, but no, we are not drunk. It is only 9 o’clock in the morning, too early for anyone to get drunk.

¹⁶ But a long time ago God told his man called Joel to write about what is happening here now, and it is in God’s book. He wrote,

¹⁷ ‘God said, “In the last days, before I judge everybody, I will give my Holy Spirit to everyone. I will give my spirit to your sons and daughters and they will tell other people the things that I tell them to say. Your young men will see the special things that I will show them, and your old men will dream about the special things I want them to know.

¹⁸ I will even give my Holy Spirit to all my workers, men and women, and they will tell other people the things that I tell them to say.”

¹⁹ But first God will do powerful things in the sky that will shock everyone. The sun will turn dark and the moon will turn red like blood. And God will do powerful things on the earth too. People will fight each other, and there will be fire and big smoke. But, at that time, God will save everybody that calls to him and asks him to save them. Then God’s really great and special day will come, and he will judge everybody.’ Joel wrote that in God’s book.”

²² Peter kept on talking. He said, “All you mob, listen to me. The man from Nazareth, called Jesus, was a very special man. God helped him to do great and powerful things to show you that he is really special. You mob saw Jesus doing those things right here in front of your eyes. But you grabbed him and you gave him to bad men that don’t know God, and they killed him on a cross. But you see, a long time ago God already knew everything you were going to do, and he planned to let you do it a long time before you did it.

²⁴ Yes, those bad men killed Jesus. He hurt a lot, and then he died. But God didn’t let him stay dead. God made him alive again. Nobody could make Jesus stay dead.

²⁵ A long time ago God’s man called David wrote about Jesus in God’s book. He wrote, ‘I saw you, God. You are always right here in front of me. You are close by my side and you look after me, so nobody can frighten me. So I am very happy and I tell everyone you are good. I know you will not leave my dead body in a grave. You will not let the body of your special person rot away. You showed me the right way to live so that I can keep on living, You are right here with me and you make me very happy.’ David wrote that in God’s book.”

²⁹ Peter kept on talking. He said, “My friends, I can tell you, for sure, about our grand-father David of long ago. He was not talking about himself. You see, he died and people buried him. His grave is still here, and we can see it today. So we know he didn’t come alive again.

³⁰ But David was one of God’s men, and he wrote God’s messages for people. And God promised David that one day, some time later, a man from David’s own family will become the big boss of his people.

³¹ You see, God told David something that will happen later, so David wrote that message for us. That message was about the man God was going to send, and it tells us that God was going to make him alive again. It tells us God was not going to leave him in the grave or let his body rot away.

³² And now, all of us mob here can tell you that message is all about Jesus. He died, but then God made him alive again, and we all saw him alive again.

³³ Then God took him up into heaven. Now he is sitting right next to God, on God’s right side, and God gave him his power.

³⁴ You see, David didn’t go up into heaven, but Jesus did, so we know David didn’t write those words about himself, but he wrote them about Jesus. And David wrote some more words about Jesus too. He wrote, ‘God told my leader, “Sit with me, on my right side, until I beat all your enemies, and then you can put your feet on them to show that you are their boss.” ’ That’s in God’s book.”

³⁶ Then Peter said, “So, all of us Israel mob have to know this for sure. Yes, you got the soldiers to nail Jesus to a cross and kill him. But God made him alive again, and God made him our boss. Yes, he is the one God promised to send to save us.”

³⁷ All the people heard the things Peter said and they felt really ashamed. So they said to Peter, and to the other close followers of Jesus, “Friends, what can we do?”

³⁸ Peter told them, “You have to turn around and follow Jesus. Then let us baptise you to show that you turned away from the wrong things you are doing, and now you follow Jesus Christ. Then God will not pay you back for those bad things. And he will give you the Holy Spirit to live in you just like he promised. You see, God promised to give the Holy Spirit to everyone that he picks to be his own people. God promised this to you, and to your kids, and even to people in other countries a long way away.”

¹⁵ These are not dronken as ye suppose: for it is yet but the thyrde houre of the daye.

¹⁶ But this is that which was spoken by the Prophete Iohel:

¹⁷ It shalbe in the last dayes sayth God: of my sprete I will powre out vpon all flesshe. And youre sonnes and youre doughters shall prophesy and youre yoge men shall se visions and youre olde me shall dreme dremes.

¹⁸ And on my servauts and on my honde maydens I will powre out of my sprete in those dayes and they shall prophesye.

¹⁹ And I will shewe wonders in heaven a bove and tokens in the erth benethe bloud and fyre and the vapour of smoke.

²⁰ The sunne shalbe turned into darknes and the mone into bloud before that greate and notable daye of the Lorde come.

²¹ And it shalbe that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lorde shalbe saved.

²² Ye men of Israel heare these wordes. Iesus of Nazareth a man approved of God amonge you with myracles wondres and signes which God dyd by him in the myddes of you as ye youre selves knowe:

²³ him have ye taken by the hondes of vnrightewes persones after he was delivered by the determinat counsell and foreknoweledge of God and have crucified and slayne:

²⁴ whom God hath raysed vp and lowsed the sorowes of deeth because it was vnpossible that he shuld be holden of it.

²⁵ For David speaketh of him: Afore honde I sawe God alwayes before me: For he is on my ryght honde that I shuld not be moved.

³⁸ Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

¹⁰ Phrygia, Pamphylia, Egypt, the parts of Libya around Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes,

¹¹ Cretans and Arabians—we hear them speaking in our languages the mighty works of God!”

¹² They were all amazed and were perplexed, saying to one another, “What does this mean?”

¹³ Others, mocking, said, “They are filled with new wine.”

¹⁴ But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and spoke out to them, “You men of Judea and all you who dwell at Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and listen to my words.

¹⁵ For these aren’t drunken, as you suppose, seeing it is only the third hour of the day.

¹⁶ But this is what has been spoken through the prophet Joel:

¹⁷ ‘It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams.

¹⁸ Yes, and on my servants and on my handmaidens in those days, I will pour out my Spirit, and they will prophesy.

¹⁹ I will show wonders in the sky above, and signs on the earth beneath: blood, and fire, and billows of smoke.

²⁰ The sun will be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the great and glorious day of the Lord comes.

²¹ It will be that whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved.’

²² “Men of Israel, hear these words! Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved by God to you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him amongst you, even as you yourselves know,

²³ him, being delivered up by the determined counsel and foreknowledge of God, you have taken by the hand of lawless men, crucified and killed;

²⁴ whom God raised up, having freed him from the agony of death, because it was not possible that he should be held by it.

²⁵ For David says concerning him, ‘I saw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved.

²⁶ Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced. Moreover my flesh also will dwell in hope,

²⁷ because you will not leave my soul in Hades, neither will you allow your Holy One to see decay.

²⁸ You made known to me the ways of life. You will make me full of gladness with your presence.’

²⁹ “Brothers, I may tell you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day.

³⁰ Therefore, being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him that of the fruit of his body, according to the flesh, he would raise up the Christ to sit on his throne,

³¹ he foreseeing this, spoke about the resurrection of the Christ, that his soul wasn’t left in Hades, and his flesh didn’t see decay.

³² This Jesus God raised up, to which we all are witnesses.

³³ Being therefore exalted by the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he has poured out this which you now see and hear.

²⁴ Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be held by it.

²⁵ For David speaketh concerning him, I saw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:

²⁹ Men, brethren, let me freely speak to you concerning the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulcher is with us to this day.

³⁰ Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn to him with an oath, that from the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;

³¹ He seeing this before, spoke of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither did his flesh see corruption.

³² This Jesus hath God raised up, of which we all are witnesses.

²¹ And it shall be, each man which-ever shall call to help or in-call the name of the Lord, shall be safe.

²² Ye men of Israel, hear ye these words. Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God before you by virtues, and wonders, and tokens, which God did by him in the middle of you, as ye know,

²³ ye tormented, and killed him by the hands of wicked men, by counsel determined and betaken by the fore-knowing or the prescience of God.

²⁴ Whom God raised, when the sorrows of hell were unbound, by that that it was impossible that he were holden of it.

²⁵ For David saith of him, I saw afar the Lord before me evermore, for he is on my right half, that I be not moved.

²⁶ For this thing mine heart joyed, and my tongue made full out joy or gladded, and moreover my flesh shall rest in hope.

²⁷ For thou shalt not leave my soul in hell, neither thou shalt give thine Holy to see corruption.

²⁹ Brethren, be it leaveful boldly to say to you of the patriarch David, for he is dead and buried, and his sepulchre is among us into this day.

³⁰ Therefore when he was a prophet, and knew, that with a great oath God had sworn to him, that of the fruit of his loins should one sit on his seat,

³¹ he seeing afar spake of the resurrection of Christ, for neither he was left in hell, neither his flesh saw corruption.

³² God raised this Jesus, to whom we all be witnesses.

³³ Therefore he was enhanced by the right hand of God, and through the promise of the Holy Ghost that he took of the Father, he shedded out this Spirit, that ye see and hear.

¹⁷ And it shall be in the last days, the Lord saith, I shall pour out my Spirit on each flesh or I shall pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your elders shall dream swevens (or your old men shall dream dreams).

¹⁸ And on my servants and on mine handmaidens in those days I shall pour out (a portion) of my Spirit, and they shall prophesy.

¹⁹ And I shall give great wonders in (the) heaven(s) above, and signs in (or on the) earth beneath, blood, and fire, and heat or vapour of smoke.

²⁰ The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that the great and the open day of the Lord shall come.

²¹ And it shall be, each man whichever shall call to help the name of the Lord or each man whoever shall in-call the name of the Lord, shall be safe (or shall be saved).

²² Ye men of Israel, hear ye these words. Jesus of Nazareth, a man proved of God before you by virtues, and wonders, and tokens, which God did by him in the middle of you, as ye know, (Israelites, listen to these words. Jesus of Nazareth, a man of God approved before you by works of power, or miracles, and wonders, and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye know,)

²³ ye tormented, and killed him by the hands of wicked men, by counsel determined and betaken by the fore-knowing or by the prescience of God. (ye tormented, and killed him by the hands of wicked men, delivered up by the predetermined plan and in the foreknowledge of God.)

²⁴ Whom God raised, when the sorrows of hell were unbound, by that that it was impossible that he were holden of it (or because it was impossible that he would be held by it).

²⁵ For David saith of him, I saw afar the Lord before me (for)evermore, for he is on my right half, that I be not moved. (For David said of him, I saw the Lord always before me, for he is on my right side, or at my right hand, so that I shall not be moved.)

²⁶ For this thing mine heart joyed, and my tongue made full out joy or gladded, and moreover my flesh shall rest in hope.

²⁷ For thou shalt not leave my soul in hell, neither thou shalt give thine Holy (One) to see corruption.

²⁸ Thou hast made known to me the ways of life, thou shalt full-fill me with mirth with thy face (or thou shalt fill me full of joy by thy presence).

²⁹ Brethren, be it leaveful boldly to say to you of the patriarch David, for he is dead and buried, and his sepulchre is among us into this day. (Brothers, may it be lawful for me to boldly say this to you about the patriarch David, that he is dead and buried, and his tomb is here among us unto this day.)

³⁰ Therefore when he was a prophet, and knew, that with a great oath God had sworn to him, that of the fruit of his loins should one sit on his seat (or that a man from the fruit of his loins should sit on his throne),

³¹ he seeing afar spake of the resurrection of Christ (or he seeing far ahead spoke of the resurrection of the Messiah), for neither he was left in hell, neither his flesh saw corruption.

³² God raised this Jesus, to whom we all be witnesses.

³³ Therefore he was enhanced by the right hand of God, and through the promise of the Holy Ghost that he took of the Father, he shedded out this Spirit, that ye see and hear. (And so he was exalted, or raised up, by the right hand of God, and through the promise of the Holy Spirit that he received from the Father, he poured out this Spirit, that ye now see and hear.)

³⁷ When they heard these things, they were compuncted in heart; and they said to Peter and to (the) other apostles, Brethren (or Brothers), what shall we do?

¹³ and others mocking said, — 'They are full of sweet wine;'

¹⁴ and Peter having stood up with the eleven, lifted up his voice and declared to them, 'Men, Jews! and all those dwelling in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and harken to my sayings,

¹⁵ for these are not drunken, as ye take it up, for it is the third hour of the day.

¹⁶ 'But this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel:

¹⁷ And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of My Spirit upon all flesh, and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams;

¹⁸ and also upon My men-servants, and upon My maid-servants, in those days, I will pour out of My Spirit, and they shall prophesy;

¹⁹ and I will give wonders in the heaven above, and signs upon the earth beneath — blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke,

²⁰ the sun shall be turned to darkness, and the moon to blood, before the coming of the day of the Lord — the great and illustrious;

²¹ and it shall be, every one — whoever shall call upon the name of the Lord, he shall be saved.

²² 'Men, Israelites! hear these words, Jesus the Nazarene, a man approved of God among you by mighty works, and wonders, and signs, that God did through him in the midst of you, according as also ye yourselves have known;

²³ this one, by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, being given out, having taken by lawless hands, having crucified — ye did slay;

²⁴ whom God did raise up, having loosed the pains of the death, because it was not possible for him to be held by it,

²⁵ for David saith in regard to him: I foresaw the Lord always before me — because He is on my right hand — that I may not be moved;

²⁶ because of this was my heart cheered, and my tongue was glad, and yet — my flesh also shall rest on hope,

²⁷ because Thou wilt not leave my soul to hades, nor wilt Thou give Thy Kind One to see corruption;

²⁸ Thou didst make known to me ways of life, Thou shalt fill me with joy with Thy countenance.

²⁹ 'Men, brethren! it is permitted to speak with freedom unto you concerning the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is among us unto this day;

³⁰ a prophet, therefore, being, and knowing that with an oath God did swear to him, out of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, to raise up the Christ, to sit upon his throne,

³¹ having foreseen, he did speak concerning the rising again of the Christ, that his soul was not left to hades, nor did his flesh see corruption.

³² 'This Jesus did God raise up, of which we are all witnesses;

³³ at the right hand then of God having been exalted — also the promise of the Holy Spirit having received from the Father — he was shedding forth this, which now ye see and hear;
